Integrated tunable optical filters are essential components in photonic signal processors, telecom systems, sensors, and quantum optical devices. Two of the most important features of a tunable filter are its dimensions and power consumption. Herein, the design and experimental validation of an on‐chip optical filter composed of a 1D topological photonic crystal cavity based on a hybrid integrated lithium tantalite‐silicon platform is presented. The strong optical confinement of the boundary state allows the fabrication of a tunable filter with an ultra‐compact size of 1.14 × 75 µm2 is demonstrated. Moreover, lithium tantalite has excellent electro‐optic properties and enables ultra‐low‐power wavelength tuning of the topological boundary state. The measured power consumption and tuning efficiency of the device are 0.0218 nW pm−1 and 6.64 pm V−1, respectively. The anisotropy of thin‐film lithium tantalite is verified by evaluating its tuning efficiency at different optical angles. The device can compensate for thermally induced refractive index changes ≈20 °C, exhibiting operational robustness. High‐speed transmission experiments confirm the stability of the developed tunable filter. Narrow‐band deep‐blue light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) (CIEy coordinate<0.08, full width at half maximum (FWHM)<20 nm) are important for the next generation of LED‐based displays. It remains a significant challenge for the design of narrow‐band deep‐blue emitters. Herein, a new strategy is proposed for constructing narrow‐band deep‐blue LEDs that are not dependent on the narrow‐band deep‐blue emitter, but only need to dope n‐type carbon dots (n‐CDs) in the active emission layer (EML) of the wide‐band blue LEDs. The n‐CDs‐LEDs show an ultra‐narrow deep‐blue emission at 430 nm with the color coordinates of (0.15, 0.04) and the FWHM of 19 nm. Wherein the EML is constructed by doping n‐CDs in Poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐co‐N‐(4‐butylphenyl) diphenylamine) (TFB), which neither changes the band structure of TFB nor produces new energy levels. Transient photovoltage (TPV) and various photoelectrochemical characterizations jointly reveal that n‐CDs can trap holes to realize the carrier injection into a single energy level of TFB and achieve ultra‐narrow deep‐blue light emission. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered form of programmed cell death that is non‐caspase‐dependent and is characterized by the production of lethal levels of iron‐dependent lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS). In recent years, ferroptosis has attracted great interest in the field of cerebral infarction because it differs morphologically, physiologically, and genetically from other forms of cell death such as necrosis, apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis. In addition, ROS is considered to be an important prognostic factor for ischemic stroke, making it a promising target for stroke treatment. This paper summarizes the induction and defense mechanisms associated with ferroptosis, and explores potential treatment strategies for ischemic stroke in order to lay the groundwork for the development of new neuroprotective drugs. Bacterial infection at wound sites can easily induce robust inflammation. M1 macrophages at wound sites can cause cascade inflammatory reactions to mediate a vicious inflammation cycle. Meanwhile, the hypoxia situation further aggravates the destruction and contraction of blood vessels in the wound microenvironment, therefore, hindering the infected wound healing process. Here, a thermosensitive hydrogel is reported to solve the above challenges by eliminating bacteria based on the photothermal effect, regulating the inflammatory immune microenvironment, and providing oxygen (O2). In vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that the hydrogel has great O2‐producing properties. Based on the excellent photothermal properties of AIEgens, the hydrogel has a good bactericidal effect against S. aureus (100%) and E. coli (98.85%). The RNA‐sequencing revealed that Cur@AIE@MnO2/gel can interfere with the metabolic process and genetic material repair process to impact bacteria proliferation and biofilm dispersal, thus achieving excellent anti‐bacterial efficacy. Moreover, Cur@AIE@MnO2/gel can also up‐regulate anti‐inflammatory genes, down‐regulate pro‐inflammatory genes in macrophages, and facilitate the promotion of macrophage polarization from M1 to M2 to relieve inflammation. The therapeutic experiments show that this hydrogel accelerated the wound‐healing process. Rhododendron is the largest genus in Ericaceae and is well known for its diversity and beauty of flowers present in different species, making it a much‐revered lineage of ornamental plants. Many species of Rhododendron are intolerant of high temperatures, which are becoming more common and intense in urban areas under global climate change. Therefore, the discovery and description of genes from heat‐tolerant Rhododendron lineages are essential in the development of new climate‐resilient cultivars. One such species known to be heat tolerant is Rhododendron × pulchrum Sweet. To better understand the genomics of heat tolerance in this species, we assembled a haplotype‐resolved and chromosome‐scale genome for R. × pulchrum, which had a genome size of 509 Mb; a scaffold N50 of 37 251 370 bp; and contained 35 610 genes. In addition, based on the same reannotation pipeline, we conducted pan‐genomic analyses for all seven available chromosome‐scale Rhododendron genomes and found 14 415 gene groups shared across all species and 18 018 gene groups distributed in the other species, including 1879 gene groups found in only a single species. Finally, we analyzed the transcriptomic data from heat‐treated and non‐heat‐treated R. × pulchrum plants to quantify the genes that are most important during heat stress in an effort to inform the development of climate‐resilient cultivars. Deoxygenation‐based dynamic susceptibility contrast (dDSC) MRI uses respiratory challenges as a source of endogenous contrast as an alternative to gadolinium injection. These gas challenges induce T2*‐weighted MRI signal losses, after which tracer kinetics modeling was applied to calculate cerebral perfusion. This work compares three gas challenges, desaturation (transient hypoxia), resaturation (transient normoxia), and SineO2 (sinusoidal modulation of end‐tidal oxygen pressures) in a cohort of 10 healthy volunteers (age 37 ± 11 years; 60% female). Perfusion estimates consisted of cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV), and mean transit time (MTT). Calculations were computed using a traditional tracer kinetics model in the time domain for desaturation and resaturation and in the frequency domain for SineO2. High correlations and limits of agreement were observed among the three deoxygenation‐based paradigms for CBV, although MTT and CBF estimates varied with the hypoxic stimulus. Cross‐modality correlation with gadolinium DSC was lower, particularly for MTT, but on a par with agreement between the other perfusion references. Overall, this work demonstrated the feasibility and reliability of oxygen respiratory challenges to measure brain perfusion. Additional work is needed to assess the utility of dDSC in the diagnostic evaluation of various pathologies such as ischemic strokes, brain tumors, and neurodegenerative diseases. The energy barrier between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the emission layer (EML) and the hole transport layer material (HTL) restricts the development of carbon dots (CDs) based light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). Here, the fabrication of red fluorescent CDs (RCDs) by a one‐step solvothermal method is reported. These RCDs have a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 47.97% and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 26 nm. This study also shows the RCDs‐based LEDs fabrication with Poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐co‐N‐(4‐butylphenyl) diphenylamine (TFB) as HTL. In normal case, these devices are not able to work due to the large interfacial energy barrier between RCDs and TFB. While, the RCDs‐LEDs can overcome through interfacial energy barriers and achieve stable carrier injecting by a simple in situ electric excitation at the current of 50 mA cm−2. Aims: This study sought to assess the effect of treatment of sacubitril/valsartan (S/V) on improving cardiac function and reversing cardiac remodelling in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) complicated with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods and results: We enrolled 275 ACS patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction after PCI. The patients were divided into the routine and S/V groups according to the treatment drugs. The symptoms, N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) concentrations, echocardiographic parameters [left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular mass index (LVMI), left ventricular end‐diastolic volume index (LVEDVI), and left ventricular end‐systolic volume index (LVESVI)], major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), and adverse reactions were recorded at baseline and 6 months after treatment when a clinical follow‐up was performed. The S/V group was further divided into prespecified subgroups including unstable angina (UA) group, non‐ST‐elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) group, and ST‐elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) group according to the type of ACS. We analysed the changes in LVEF, LVMI, LVEDVI, LVESVI, and NT‐proBNP in both groups and evaluated the correlation between the changes in the above variables (ΔLVEF, ΔLVMI, ΔLVEDVI, ΔLVESVI, and ΔNT‐proBNP). Cox regression model was used to assess the independent risk factors of MACE. Prespecified subgroup analyses were also conducted. Compared with baseline, LVEF increased significantly (P < 0.05), NT‐proBNP, LVMI, and LVESVI decreased significantly in both groups after 6 months (P < 0.05), and LVEDVI decreased significantly in the S/V group (P = 0.001). In the S/V group, ΔLVEF (t = −2.745, P = 0.006), ΔNT‐proBNP (P = 0.009), ΔLVEDVI (t = 4.203, P = 0.001), and ΔLVESVI (t = 3.907, P = 0.001) were significantly improved than those in the routine group. In the S/V group, ΔLVEF was negatively correlated with ΔNT‐proBNP (r = −0.244, P = 0.004), ΔLVMI (r = −0.190, P = 0.028), ΔLVEDVI (r = −0.173, P = 0.045), and ΔLVESVI (r = −0.261, P = 0.002). In Cox regression model analysis, ΔLVEF {hazard ratio [HR] = 0.87 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.80–0.95], P = 0.003}, ΔLVEDVI [HR = 1.04 (95% CI 1.01–1.06), P = 0.013], and ΔLVESVI [HR = 1.04 (95% CI 1.01–1.08), P = 0.026] were independent risk factors for MACE. Subgroup analysis showed that ΔLVEF (t = 6.290, P = 0.001), ΔLVEDVI (t = 2.581, P = 0.011), and ΔNT‐proBNP (P = 0.019) in the NSTEMI group were significantly improved than those in the UA group, ΔLVEDVI in the NSTEMI group was significantly better than that in the STEMI group (t = −3.365, P = 0.001), and ΔLVEF in the STEMI group was significantly better than that in the UA group (t = −3.928, P = 0.001). There was a significant difference in the survival probability without MACE among the three groups in the analysis of the Kaplan–Meier curve (P = 0.042). The incidence of MACE in the UA group was significantly higher than that in the NSTEMI group (32.4% vs. 6.3%, P = 0.004). Conclusions: The cardiac function is improved and cardiac remodelling is reversed significantly after treatment of S/V in ACS patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction after PCI, and the improvement is more obvious than the routine group. There is a significant negative correlation between the change in LVEF and the changes in NT‐proBNP, LVMI, LVEDVI, and LVESVI. The increase of LVEF and the decrease of LVEDVI and LVESVI are protective factors to improve the prognosis. Patients with myocardial infarction and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction might benefit more from the initiation of S/V as first‐line heart failure treatment after PCI. A high‐resolution wave model is crucial for accurate modeling of sediment and organic material transports, but its computational costs hinder direct coupling to an ecosystem model. We developed a machine learning model using long short‐term memory to simulate large‐scale, high‐resolution waves. Trained with numerical wave model (NWM) outputs and wind data from nine locations, our model successfully replicates NWM results for daily mean significant wave height and period in Chesapeake Bay with identical spatial resolution. Compared to the NWM, the data‐driven model has root‐mean‐square errors below 6 cm for daily mean significant wave height and 1 s for the wave period in the bay. It demonstrates excellent model skills and can accurately forecast daily mean significant wave height and period at NOAA wave stations comparable to NWMs. Using minimal wind data and having a short runtime, our data‐driven model shows promise as an alternative for wave forecasting and coupling with sediment and ecological models. However, the computational expenses of running an NWM within an ecosystem model pose significant challenges. We conducted a study using a machine learning approach based on long short‐term memory to replicate the results of an NWM. The data‐driven wave model (DWM) was trained with the NWM outputs and wind data from nine locations. The trained DWM can replicate the NWM results of daily mean significant wave height and period in Chesapeake Bay with identical spatial resolution and the same predictive skill with a root‐mean‐square error of less than 6 cm and 1 s, respectively for the model domain. The model successfully forecasted daily mean significant wave height and period at NOAA wave stations, showing great forward prediction capability. Notably, the DWM only relied on a minimal amount of wind data from selected locations and had a short runtime. These findings indicate that machine learning is promising as an alternative approach to NWM for wave forecasting. Moreover, it can serve as an alternative wave model and be coupled to ecological models for simulating sediment transport, light attenuation, and resuspension of organic materials. Cancer is now a major threat to human health and life. Although a number of clinical approaches to cancer treatment have been developed in recent years, tumor recurrence and metastasis remain a challenge. As the "seed" for the formation of tumor metastasis, Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs) can not only grow and spread in the primary site, but also spread to other parts of the body through various ways. The close connection between CTCs and tumor progression makes them a focus of clinical and basic research attention, and it not only has an important guide for the clinical treatment of patients, but also a window into the occurrence and development of distant metastases. The identification and detection of CTCs have an important clinical significance in the assessment of the prognosis of cancer, efficacy prediction, efficacy evaluation, and the study of recurrent metastasis and drug resistance mechanisms of cancer patients. Therefore, this review not only introduces the source, attributes, transfer, and harm of CTCs, but also highlights the progress and latest technologies for the identification and capture and elimination strategies of CTCs and presents prospects for future research of CTCs. This work reports an efficient method for facile synthesis of hierarchically porous carbon (WB‐AC) utilizing wheat bran waste. Obtained carbon showed 2.47 mmol g−1 CO2 capture capacity with good CO2/N2 selectivity and 27.35 to 29.90 kJ mol−1 isosteric heat of adsorption. Rapid removal of MO dye was observed with a capacity of ~555 mg g−1. Moreover, WB‐AC demonstrated a good OER activity with 0.35 V low overpotential at 5 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of 115 mV dec−1. It also exhibited high electrocatalytic HER activity with 57 mV overpotential at 10 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of 82.6 mV dec−1. The large SSA (757 m2 g−1) and total pore volume (0.3696 cm3 g−1) result from N2 activation contributing to selective CO2 uptake, high and rapid dye removal capacity and superior electrochemical activity (OER/HER), suggesting the use of WB‐AC as cost effective adsorbent and metal free electrocatalyst. Multiplexing holography with metasurfaces using different degrees of freedom of light has enabled recent applications in display and information processing. In terms of polarization‐multiplexed holograms, the most general form is an arbitrary Jones matrix profile in storing the maximum amount of information. It requires a relaxation to bianisotropic metasurfaces from a conventional single‐layer implementation of nanostructures, but it will also complicate both the inverse design of the nanostructures and the hologram generation algorithm. Here, an integrated neural network approach, being extended from the recent DeepCGH algorithm, is developed to obtain metasurface structural profiles directly from independent holograms from an arbitrary set of polarizations to another, with maximally four different co‐ and cross‐polarization conversion channels. Such an information‐driven approach enables designing complex polarization holograms directly from an existing metamaterial library without detailed physical knowledge on the constraints, and can be extended to other multiplexing holograms to further facilitate an efficient usage of the information stored on a metasurface. A method for the determination of five microplastics in agricultural soil was established by double‐shot pyrolysis‐gas chromatography combined with two‐step extraction. First, polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene (PE) were extracted from soil samples using a mixed solvent of cyclohexanone and p‐xylene, and then PE terephthalate was extracted with m‐methylphenol. Subsequently, PC and PE terephthalate were analyzed by thermochemolysis, and PE, PP, and PS were investigated by direct pyrolysis at 600°C. The linearity of the method was satisfactory for five microplastics and the correlation coefficients were higher than 0.97 in the respective concentration range. The limits of detection and the limits of quantification were 0.2–10.0 and 0.5–20.0 μg/g, respectively. The method provided recoveries of 75.1%–141.5%, with acceptable repeatability within 20.0%. Currently, the fabrication of white light emitting diodes (WLEDs) strongly depends on white fluorescent emission materials. The conventional method, which is a direct way from the designed fluorescent emission material to the device, is regarded as a fundamental principle in this field. Here, a brand‐new approach is shown for the design of WLEDs with a simple device‐to‐device transform based on monochromatic carbon dots (CDs). In this work, the WLEDs based on the blue fluorescent CDs achieve the in situ generation of bright white light emission in the device, originating from the oxidation of functional groups involving S element in CDs caused by strong electrical treatment. These CDs‐based WLEDs possess the luminance of 533 cd m−2, Commission Internationale d'Eclairage coordinates located at (0.38, 0.38), a correlated color temperature of 4072 K, and a color render index up to 95. This work opens a brand‐new gate for achieving high‐purity and bright WLEDs through the strategy of transforming from device to device rather than material to device. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2) may serve as biomarkers in several diseases. OEF and CMRO2 can be estimated from venous blood oxygenation (Yv) levels, which in turn can be calculated from venous blood T2 values (T2b). T2b can be measured using different MRI sequences, including T2‐relaxation‐under‐spin‐tagging (TRUST) and T2‐prepared‐blood‐relaxation‐imaging‐with‐inversion‐recovery (T2‐TRIR). The latter measures both T2b and T1 (T1b) but was found previously to overestimate T2b compared to TRUST. It remained unclear, however, if this bias is constant across higher and lower oxygen saturations. Purpose: To compare TRUST and T2‐TRIR across a range of O2 saturations using hypoxic and hypercapnic gas challenges. Study Type: Prospective. Population: Twelve healthy volunteers (four female, age 36 ± 10 years). Field Strength/Sequence: A 3T; turbo‐field echo‐planar‐imaging (TFEPI), echo‐planar‐imaging (EPI), and fast‐field‐echo (FFE). Assessment: TRUST‐ and T2‐TRIR‐derived T2b, Yv, OEF, and CMRO2 were compared across different respiratory challenges. T1b from T2‐TRIR was used to estimate Hct (HctTRIR) and compared with venipuncture (HctVP). Statistical Tests: Shapiro–Wilk, one‐sample and paired‐sample t‐test, repeated measures ANOVA, Friedman test, Bland–Altman, and correlation analysis. Bonferroni multiple‐comparison correction was performed. Significance level was 0.05. Results: A significant bias was observed between TRUST‐ and T2‐TRIR‐derived T2b, Yv, and OEF values (−13 ± 11 msec, −5.3% ± 3.5% and 5.9 ± 4.1%, respectively). For Yv and OEF, this bias was constant across the range of measured values. T1b was significantly lower during severe hypoxia and hypercapnia compared to baseline (1712 ± 86 msec and 1634 ± 79 msec compared to 1757 ± 90 msec). While no significant bias was found between HctVP and HctTRIR (0.02% ± 0.06%, P = 0.20), the correlation between these Hct values was significant but weak (r = 0.19). Data Conclusion: Given the constant bias, TRUST‐ and T2‐TRIR‐derived venous T2b values can be used interchangeably to estimate Yv, OEF, and CMRO2 across a broad range of oxygen saturations. Aim: We investigated the mechanism, whereby tumor necrosis factor‐like ligand 1A (TL1A) mediates the A1 differentiation of astrocytes in postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Methods: The cognitive and behavioral abilities of mice were assessed by Morris water maze and open field tests, while the levels of key A1 and A2 astrocyte factors were detected by RT‐qPCR. Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was used to examine the expression of GFAP, western blot was used to assay the levels of related proteins, and enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect the levels of inflammatory cytokines. Results: The results showed that TL1A could promote the progression of cognitive dysfunction in mice. Astrocytes differentiated into A1 phenotype, while unobvious changes were noted in astrocyte A2 biomarkers. Knockout of NLRP3 or intervention with NLRP3 inhibitor could inhibit the effect of TL1A, improving the cognitive dysfunction and suppressing the A1 differentiation. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that TL1A plays an important role in POCD in mice, which promotes the A1 differentiation of astrocytes through NLRP3, thereby exacerbating the progression of cognitive dysfunction. Animals living in high‐altitude environments, such as the Tibetan Plateau, must face harsh environmental conditions (e.g., hypoxia, cold, and strong UV radiation). These animals' physiological adaptations (e.g., increased red cell production and turnover rate) might also be associated with the gut microbial response. Bilirubin is a component of red blood cell turnover or destruction and is excreted into the intestine and reduced to urobilinoids and/or urobilinogen by gut bacteria. Here, we found that the feces of macaques living in high‐altitude regions look significantly browner (with a high concentration of stercobilin, a component from urobilinoids) than those living in low‐altitude regions. We also found that gut microbes involved in urobilinogen reduction (e.g., beta‐glucuronidase) were enriched in the high‐altitude mammal population compared to the low‐altitude population. Moreover, the spatial–temporal change in gut microbial function was more profound in the low‐altitude macaques than in the high‐altitude population, which might be attributed to profound changes in food resources in the low‐altitude regions. As one of the most destructive pests, aphids cause significant damage on various agricultural and horticultural crops. Recently, melatonin has been shown to enhance plant resistance to aphids; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, our results showed that melatonin, MeJA, and H2S enhanced aphid resistance of watermelon in a dose‐dependent manner, accompanied by increases in the defense‐related enzyme activities and lignin accumulation. On the plants pretreated with 100 μM melatonin, 100 μM MeJA, and 50 μM NaHS, the numbers of aphids were 86.0%, 59.6%, and 47.9% lower than that on control plants, respectively, after aphid infestation for 7 days. Melatonin application induced MeJA and H2S accumulation in response to aphid infestation, while inhibition of MeJA and H2S accumulation attenuated or abolished melatonin‐induced defense response and aphid resistance, suggestive of the involvement of MeJA and H2S in melatonin‐induced aphid resistance. MeJA also increased H2S accumulation, but inhibition of MeJA biosynthesis prevented melatonin‐enhanced H2S accumulation, suggesting that MeJA mediates melatonin‐induced H2S accumulation. Furthermore, inhibition of H2S production attenuated MeJA‐induced defense response and aphid resistance. Taken together, the current study reveals a novel mechanism in which MeJA‐dependent H2S signaling is involved in melatonin‐induced defense response and subsequent aphid resistance. The increasing concern to minimize the use of pesticides and to switch onto sustainable and natural control strategies indicates the great exploitation of such a mechanism in combating aphids. We used a numerical model to investigate the effects of sea‐level rise (SLR) on the biogeochemical processes in the York River Estuary with extensive tidal marshes. The fully‐coupled hydrodynamic‐water quality‐marsh model accounts for the spatial and temporal variations of physical‐biogeochemical interactions between the tidal marshes and surrounding waters. This study focuses on an SLR scenario where the vertical accretion of tidal marshes keeps pace with the rising sea levels. Results show that SLR amplifies the tidal range and prolongs flooding duration, which results in enhanced porewater exchanges of materials between the tidal marshes and the surrounding waters. The increased availability of shallow‐water habitats and enhanced light utilization in the shallow areas under SLR promote phytoplankton production (PP) in the shallow‐water regions of the York River. Consequently, the organic carbon in the open water is fueled by the contributions from shallow waters and the enhanced export of organic carbon from the marshes. The change in the dissolved oxygen (DO) budget in the York River Estuary is attributed to changes in water column respiration, net metabolism of the benthic layer, reaeration, PP, and increased stratification under SLR. The net DO flux out of the York River increases at the York River mouth. Diel DO variation, especially in the marshes in the upper estuary, promotes phosphorus release from the sediment. The changes in dissolved nitrogen under SLR are relatively minimal. SLR has a significant impact on tidal marshes, which are located at the interface between estuarine water and inner land. Despite the possibility of marsh retreat, many tidal marshes will keep up with the SLR through vertical accretion if sufficient sediment sources are available. SLR will result in deeper water and elevated tidal marshes in the estuary. The biogeochemical processes under this condition were predicted using a numerical modeling approach in this study. The tidal range is estimated to increase, encouraging more material exchange between marshes and estuarine water. More organic carbon is produced in this system, resulting in increased oxygen consumption. Most of the current bioadhesives cannot perform well on bleeding tissues while postoperative adhesion is a general but serious clinical issue. Here, a three‐layer biodegradable Janus tissue patch (J‐TP) that is able to simultaneously enable efficient closure of bleeding wounds with significantly promoted clotting ability and suppressed postoperative adhesion of tissues is reported. A dry adhesive hydrogel bottom layer of the J‐TP can form rapid (within 15 s) and strong (tensile strength up to 98 kPa) adhesion to bleeding/wet tissues with high bursting pressure (about 312.5 mmHg on a sealed porcine skin) through hydrogen binding and covalent conjugation between the carboxyl & N‐hydroxy succinimide (NHS) groups of hydrogel and the primary amine groups of tissues, while the phosphonic motifs can significantly reduce blood loss (by 81% on a rat bleeding liver model) of bleeding wounds. A thin polylactic acid (PLA) middle layer can improve the tensile strength (by 132%) of the J‐TP in wet conditions while the grafted zwitterionic polymers can effectively prevent postoperative tissue adhesion and inflammatory reaction. Fenugreek is an ancient herb that has been used for centuries to treat diabetes. However, how the fenugreek‐derived chemical compounds work in treating diabetes remains unclarified. Herein, we integrate molecular docking and network pharmacology to elucidate the active constituents and potential mechanisms of fenugreek against diabetes. First, 19 active compounds from fenugreek and 71 key diabetes‐related targets were identified through network pharmacology analysis. Then, molecular docking and simulations results suggest diosgenin, luteolin and quercetin against diabetes via regulation of the genes ESR1, CAV1, VEGFA, TP53, CAT, AKT1, IL6 and IL1. These compounds and genes may be key factors of fenugreek in treating diabetes. Cells results demonstrate that fenugreek has good biological safety and can effectively improve the glucose consumption of IR‐HepG2 cells. Pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the anti‐diabetic effect of fenugreek was regulated by the AGE‐RAGE and NF‐κB signalling pathways. It is mainly associated with anti‐oxidative stress, anti‐inflammatory response and β‐cell protection. Our study identified the active constituents and potential signalling pathways involved in the anti‐diabetic effect of fenugreek. These findings provide a theoretical basis for understanding the mechanism of the anti‐diabetic effect of fenugreek. With the threat posed by drug‐resistant pathogenic bacteria, developing non‐antibiotic strategies for eradicating clinically prevalent superbugs remains challenging. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered form of regulated cell death that can overcome drug resistance. Emerging evidence shows the potential of triggering ferroptosis‐like for antibacterial therapy, but the direct delivery of iron species is inefficient and may cause detrimental effects. Herein, an effective strategy to induce bacterial nonferrous ferroptosis‐like by coordinating single‐atom metal sites (e.g., Ir and Ru) into the sp2‐carbon‐linked covalent organic framework (sp2c‐COF‐Ir‐ppy2 and sp2c‐COF‐Ru‐bpy2) is reported. Upon activating by light irradiation or hydrogen peroxide, the as‐constructed Ir and Ru single‐atom catalysts (SACs) can significantly expedite intracellular reactive oxygen species burst, enhance glutathione depletion‐related glutathione peroxidase 4 deactivation, and disturb the nitrogen and respiratory metabolisms, leading to lipid peroxidation‐driven ferroptotic damage. Both SAC inducers show potent antibacterial activity against Gram‐positive bacteria, Gram‐negative bacteria, clinically isolated methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and biofilms, as well as excellent biocompatibility and strong therapeutic and preventive potential in MRSA‐infected wounds and abscesses. The synthesis of SiBNC–M (M is metal element) multinary ceramic precursors has mainly been through chemical modification of the SiBNC ceramic precursors with the introduction of the metal element/compound. This misses the simplicity, efficiency, and combined benefits of single reactor synthesis routes. We herein adopt a one‐pot method to synthesize SiBNC–Hf ceramic precursors (PBSHZ) from different Hf sources, and with varying Hf content. The starting materials include hafnium tetrachloride, hafnium dichloride, trichlorosilane, hexamethyldisilazane, and boron trichloride. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and thermogravimetric analysis are employed to characterize the structures and properties of the PBSHZ. The results reveal the successful incorporation of Hf into the precursors. Compared to the hafnium tetrachloride source, the precursor synthesized from hafnium dichloride yields more ceramics and shows better solubility, due to fewer Hf–Cl bonds available for reaction. Meanwhile, there is a positive correlation between the rise in the Hf content of PBSHZ and the ceramic yield. However, the solubility and processability of the precursors decline, due to the multiplication of the cross‐linking degree in the molecular structure. Further FT‐IR, NMR, XPS, and thermogravimetry–mass spectrometry (TG–MS) analysis indicate a full polymer‐to‐ceramic transformation at 1000°C pyrolysis temperature. Nitric oxide (NO) releasing vascular graft is promising due to its merits of thromboembolism reduction and endothelialization promotion. In this study, keratin‐based NO donor of S‐nitrosated keratin (KSNO) was blended with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and further crosslinked with sodium trimetaphosphate (STMP) to afford PVA/KSNO biocomposite films. These films could release NO sustainably for up to 10 days, resulting in the promotion of HUVECs growth and the inhibition of HUASMCs growth. Power consumption of photonic integrated circuits becomes a critical consideration. A new platform is proposed for ultralow‐power tuning in silicon photonics via piezo‐optomechanical coupling using hafnium‐oxide actuators. As an example of the potential of the platform, a tunable silicon‐hafnium‐oxide hybrid microring, where hafnium‐oxide film acts as an active optical and piezoelectric layer, is demonstrated. The hybrid microring is capable of linear bidirectional tuning with a wavelength tuning efficiency of 8.4 pm V−1 and a power efficiency of 0.12 nW pm−1. The estimated power consumption for tuning a free spectral range (FSR) in hybrid microring is 3.07 µW per FSR. The hybrid silicon‐hafnium‐oxide technology with complementary metal‐oxide‐semiconductor (CMOS) compatibility advances the field of ultralow‐power integrated photonic devices and can find applications in optical communications, computing, and spaces under cryogenic temperatures. Developing solid‐state luminescent materials with bright long‐wavelength emissions is of considerable practical importance in light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) but remains a formidable challenge. Here, a novel structure engineering strategy is reported to realize solid‐state fluorescence (FL)‐emitted carbon dots (CDs) from visible to near‐infrared region. This is the first report of such an extended wavelength emission of self‐quenching‐resistant solid‐state CDs. Notably, the quantum yields of these CDs are remarkably improved up to 67.7%, which is the highest value for solid‐state CDs. The surface polymer chains of CDs can efficiently suppress the conjugated sp2 carbon cores from π–π stacking inducing aggregation caused FL quenching, and the redshift of FL emissions is attributed to narrowing bandgap caused by an enlarged sp2 carbon core. Using these CDs as conversion phosphors, the fabrication of white LEDs with adjustable correlated color temperatures of 1882–5019 K is achieved. Moreover, a plant growth LED device is assembled with a blue‐LED chip and deep‐red/near‐infrared‐emitted CDs. Compared with sunlight and white LEDs, the peanuts irradiated by plant growth LED lamp show higher growth efficiency in terms of branches and leaves. Observations suggest that the existence of tidal marsh can alter the oxygen and nutrient dynamics in adjacent water bodies, but assessing the impacts of large tidal marshes on an estuary is challenging. In this study, we use a modeling approach to investigate the roles of tidal marshes on the estuarine biochemical processes. The marsh model, which simulates the ecological functions of marshes at seasonal and annual time‐scales, is embedded inside an unstructured‐grid three‐dimensional hydrodynamic and eutrophication model (SCHISM‐ICM). This modeling system simulates the growth and metabolism of the tidal marshes and links biological processes to nutrient dynamics in the water column and sediment. This model dynamically simulates nutrient recycling and physical transport of the materials between marshes and open water through wetting‐drying processes. This coupled model system is validated and successfully applied to the York River Estuary. Model results suggest that tidal marshes influence the local diurnal dissolved oxygen (DO) cycle by exporting dissolved organic carbon and high sediment oxygen demand in the marsh system through the tidal exchange. The high deposition rates of organics and diurnal DO cycle enhance the sediment release of phosphorus. On the other hand, marshes tend to decrease dissolved inorganic nitrogen in the water column by settling particulate nutrients and enhancing the denitrification process. The study demonstrates that tidal marshes exert substantial impacts on the estuarine biochemical processes. The developed tidal marsh model enhances eutrophication modeling and advances the understanding of the feedback effects between marsh biogeochemistry and estuarine eutrophication processes on a systemic scale. The photosynthetic reaction center complex (RCC) of green sulfur bacteria (GSB) consists of the membrane‐imbedded RC core and the peripheric energy transmitting proteins called Fenna–Matthews–Olson (FMO). Functionally, FMO transfers the absorbed energy from a huge peripheral light‐harvesting antenna named chlorosome to the RC core where charge separation occurs. In vivo, one RC was found to bind two FMOs, however, the intact structure of RCC as well as the energy transfer mechanism within RCC remain to be clarified. Here we report a structure of intact RCC which contains a RC core and two FMO trimers from a thermophilic green sulfur bacterium Chlorobaculum tepidum at 2.9 Å resolution by cryo‐electron microscopy. The second FMO trimer is attached at the cytoplasmic side asymmetrically relative to the first FMO trimer reported previously. We also observed two new subunits (PscE and PscF) and the N‐terminal transmembrane domain of a cytochrome‐containing subunit (PscC) in the structure. These two novel subunits possibly function to facilitate the binding of FMOs to RC core and to stabilize the whole complex. A new bacteriochlorophyll (numbered as 816) was identified at the interspace between PscF and PscA‐1, causing an asymmetrical energy transfer from the two FMO trimers to RC core. In this study, the influence of sea‐level rise (SLR) on seasonal hypoxia and phytoplankton production in Chesapeake Bay is investigated using a 3D unstructured grid model. Three SLR scenarios (0.17, 0.5, and 1.0 m) were conducted from 1991 to 1995. Results show that the summer hypoxic volume (HV) increases about 2%, 8%, and 16%, respectively, for these three scenarios, compared with Base Scenario. The contributions of physical and biological processes on the increase in the HV were analyzed. With the projected SLR, enhanced gravitational circulation transports more oxygen‐rich water in the bottom layer from the mouth. However, the pycnocline moves upwards along with increasing water depth, which largely prolongs the time for dissolved oxygen (DO) to be transported to the bottom. The altered physical processes contribute greatly to a larger HV bay‐wide. Besides, SLR increases the whole Bay phytoplankton production, with a larger increase in shallow areas (e.g., 53% in areas with depth <1 m under SLR of 0.5 m). Enhanced light availability is suggested to be the major driver of blooming phytoplankton under SLR in shallow areas. While increased DO production over the euphotic zone is mostly released to the atmosphere and transported downstream, the increase in settled organic matter greatly promotes DO consumption in the water column. A three‐dimensional unstructured‐grid hydrodynamic and water quality model (Semi‐implicit Cross‐scale Hydroscience Intergrated System Model‐Integrated Compartment Model) is applied successfully for Chesapeake Bay. The model is validated with observations of salinity, chlorophyll‐a, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and phytoplankton productions from the year 1991 to 1995 for the mainstem and some major tributaries, based on multiple model skill scores. Model experiments are conducted to test the importance of having (1) an accurate representation of bathymetry to correctly predict hypoxia and other processes and (2) a high‐resolution model grid for tributaries to correctly simulate water quality variables. Comparison with the model experiment results with bathymetry smoothing indicates that bathymetry smoothing, as commonly used for many systems, changes the stratification and lateral circulation pattern, resulting in more salt intrusion into shallow water regions, and an increase in the freshwater age. Consequently, a model with bathymetry smoothing can lead to an unrealistic prediction of the distribution of hypoxia and phytoplankton production. Local grid refinement shows significant improvement of model simulations on local stratification and water quality variables. Overall, the use of high‐resolution unstructured grid model leads to a faithful representation of the complex geometry, and thus a seamless cross‐scale capability for simulating water quality processes in the Bay including tributaries and tidal creeks. Background: Traditional abamectin (Abm) formulations have several shortcomings, such as low water solubility, burst release behavior, poor photostability, and short persistence periods, which decrease their pesticidal activity and the risks they pose to the environment. Nanomaterial‐based pesticide delivery systems (PDSs) provide new strategies for the efficient and safe application of pesticides. Here, we developed Abm‐loaded graphene oxide (Abm/GO) as a PDS for the sustained release of Abm, which shows enhanced control efficacy against Plutella xylostella. Results: The hydrophobic Abm molecule was effectively loaded on GO nanocarrier by a physisorption method, which formed a uniform and stable Abm/GO nanoformulation. GO possesses high adsorption capacity and can effectively load Abm. The Abm/GO nanoformulation shows enhanced water dispersion stability and can remain stable during a 2‐year storage period in contrast to the water‐insoluble Abm. In addition, the Abm/GO nanoformulation exhibits sustained pesticide release behavior and possesses significantly improved anti‐ultraviolet properties. Thus, the Abm/GO nanoformulation shows superior pesticidal activity compared with Abm. Abm/GO showed negligible toxicity to maize seedlings, and its GO nanocarrier can reduce the cytotoxicity of Abm to A549 cells. Conclusion: GO‐based PDSs can effectively overcome the disadvantages of traditional pesticides, such as their insolubility, burst release behavior, instability, and short persistence period. Background: Limited evidence supports the omission of routine bone marrow (BM) examination (biopsy and aspiration) in patients with nasal‐type extranodal NK/T‐cell lymphoma (ENKTCL). This study was aimed at assessing whether BM examination provides valuable information for positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT)–based staging in this patient population. Patients and Methods: Patients newly diagnosed with ENKTCL who underwent initial staging with both PET/CT and BM examination between 2013 and 2020 were retrospectively identified in two Chinese institutions. Overall, 742 patients were included; the BM examination was positive in 67 patients. Results: Compared with BM biopsy alone, the combination of BM biopsy and aspiration assessment did not afford any additional diagnostic value. No patient with a positive BM biopsy was found to have early‐stage disease by PET/CT. BM biopsy or PET/CT led to upstaging from stage III to IV as a result of BM involvement in 21 patients. In 135 patients with distant organ involvement, BM involvement was associated with worse overall survival (OS) and progression‐free survival (PFS) compared with the corresponding durations in patients without BM involvement (2‐year OS: 35.9% vs. 60.4%, p <.001; PFS: 26% vs. 40.7%, p =.003). No difference in survival was noted between groups judged positive based on PET/CT and BM biopsy. Conclusion: Compared with aspiration, BM biopsy led to the detection of more BM lesions. Baseline PET/CT can be safely used to exclude BM involvement in early‐stage disease. Overall, routine BM examination affords diagnostic or prognostic value over PET/CT in patients with advanced‐stage nasal‐type ENKTCL. Baseline positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) can be safely used to exclude bone marrow (BM) involvement in patients with early‐stage nasal‐type extranodal NK/T‐cell lymphoma (ENKTCL). As a representative catabolic reaction that widely exists in nature, anaerobic digestion (AD) exhibits great value regarding the global carbon cycle, renewable energy development, and environmental protection. Such an important biochemical reaction was ignored before and should be introduced into the teaching and textbooks of undergraduate biochemistry courses. However, students may face obstructions when learning AD theories since the metabolic pathways in AD are very complex. To solve these problems, an instructive metabolic minimap of the AD reaction was designed, including its reaction stages, reaction pathways, substrates, and enzymes. Furthermore, the interrelationships between aerobic catabolism (AEC) and anaerobic catabolism (ANC) were also summarized by combining the catabolic pathways of typical biological macromolecules. In this paper, AD theories were first replenished into undergraduate biochemistry courses by metabolic minimap, which not only provided valuable supports for the practical teaching of AD in undergraduate biochemistry courses, but also acted as an important reference for students in biology‐related majors and biochemistry teachers. Layered oxide cathodes have demonstrated great potential for potassium‐ion batteries (PIBs) on account of high reversible capacity, appropriate diffusion paths, and low cost. However, their electrochemical performance in PIBs is generally worse than that in lithium‐ion batteries due to large structural changes and deformations during charging and discharging. To improve their potassium storage performance, a series of strategies have been developed in recent studies. In this review, we summarize the latest advancements in layered oxide cathodes for PIBs through different crystal regulation strategies, including transition metal layer doping, potassium content optimization, oxygen partial substitution, functional morphology construction and air stability improvement. Meanwhile, the relationship between the electrochemical properties and structural evolution of these modified cathodes is also investigated. In addition, the challenges and prospects of these layered oxide cathodes in PIBs are analyzed in detail, providing constructive insights for future applications of PIBs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The FPGA‐based image classification accelerator has achieved success in many practical applications. However, most accelerators focus on solving the problem of convolution computation efficiency. End‐to‐end image classification involves many non‐convolutional operations, which can also become performance bottlenecks. Therefore, the authors propose an FPGA‐based JPEG preprocessing accelerator, which can accelerate non‐convolution operations of JPEG before feature extraction. To improve throughput and energy efficiency, four hardware structures are adopted in the design: 1) adaptive image block; 2) fast IDCT; 3) image block buffer; and 4) image block self‐location. The proposed design is evaluated on Xilinx XCZU7EV. The authors compare it with the optimized implementation of CPU and GPU, and the energy efficiency is improved by 23.07 times and 4.21 times, respectively. The throughput is 2.52 times better than the CPU implementation. And the authors demonstrate its practicality through a case study of image classification. Aim: Current study was to evaluate relationship between baseline serum lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] level and prognosis in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and to explore whether the relationship would be modified by baseline high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein (Hs‐CRP) level. Methods and results: This is an observational prospective study. HFrEF patients from outpatient clinic were consecutively recruited (n = 362). Based on Lp(a) cutoff (30 mg/dL), patients were divided into normal and high Lp(a) groups; and based on Hs‐CRP cutoff (3 mg/dL), patients were divided into low‐degree and high‐degree groups. The 1 year rate of HF rehospitalization was similar between these two groups (22.7% vs. 24.1%, P = 0.18), while the 1 year rate of cardiovascular mortality was higher in Lp(a) ≥ 30 mg/dL versus Lp(a) < 30 mg/dL groups (20.3% vs. 13.3%, P = 0.009), as was composite endpoint (44.4% vs. 36.0%, P < 0.001). After adjusting for covariates, elevated Lp(a) level remained associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality [hazard ratio (HR) 1.22 and 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04–1.64, P = 0.02] and composite endpoint (HR 1.38 and 95% CI 1.16–2.01, P = 0.006). In Hs‐CRP ≥ 3 mg/dL group, elevated Lp(a) level was associated with HF rehospitalization, cardiovascular mortality, and composite endpoint, which was not observed in Hs‐CRP < 3 mg/dL group. The association was greater for cardiovascular mortality (P‐interaction = 0.04) and composite endpoint (P‐interaction = 0.02) in Hs‐CRP ≥ 3 mg/dL versus Hs‐CRP < 3 mg/dL groups. Conclusion: Elevated Lp(a) level is associated with higher risk of cardiovascular mortality in HFrEF patients, which might be due to enhanced systemic inflammation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The response of tidal range in tidal marshes under sea‐level rise (SLR) is essential to the marsh resilience, but how tidal ranges respond to different marsh evolutions remains unclear. Here, we show the existence of bifurcate responses of tidal range to SLR using both numerical model and theoretical analyses. The tidal range tends to increase if marsh accretion keeps pace with SLR; otherwise, the tidal range tends to decrease. As tidal range plays the key role in marsh evolution, the interactions between changing tidal range and marsh evolution lead to positive feedback on marsh resilience. If the marsh accretion can keep up with the SLR, the increase in the tidal range can enhance marsh resilience to SLR. If the marsh cannot keep up, the decrease in the tidal range may further threaten the marsh resilience or even lead to marsh retreat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Response inhibition, a crucial component of executive function, is closely related to personal impulse control, social adaption, and mental health. Previous studies have found response inhibition deficit in patients with major depressive disorder, but whether it also exists in individuals with subclinical depression (SD) remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the ability of response inhibition to emotional face stimuli both under explicit and implicit conditions in individuals with SD. Thirty‐six subclinical depressed college students and 39 healthy individuals were recruited and administered the non‐emotional, explicit, and implicit emotional stop‐signal tasks (SSTs). Mixed‐model analyses of variance were used to analyze the differences between and within groups. In implicit emotional SST, the results showed a significant longer stop‐signal response time, a shorter stop‐signal delay time, a shorter go reaction time, and a similar proportion of stop success in the SD group compared to healthy controls. However, the above indices showed no significant difference between the two groups in the non‐emotional SST and explicit emotional SST. These findings suggest a possible defect of response inhibition in implicit emotional processing in individuals with SD, which may potentially serve as a marker of susceptibility to depression and thus be applied to early screening and intervention for major depressive disorder. The current pharmacologic treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) is limited to pain relief medications that may bring obvious side effects, so new treatment ideas need to be proposed. Eliminating excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) and maintaining the anabolic and catabolic function of chondrocytes may provide a new strategy for OA treatment. Here, we prepared nanoparticles (m@PDA−Q) composed of polydopamine (PDA), quercetin and modified hyaluronic acid. PDA not only functions as a carrier for hydrophobic drugs, but also as a certain ROS scavenger. On this basis, hyaluronic acid was modified and cross‐linked under ultraviolet light so it could polymerize on the surface of nanoparticles and provide protection and lubrication to the joints. Relevant experiments showed good biocompatibility of the composite nanomaterials that we synthesized. Its function in regulating the antioxidant defense system, anti‐inflammatory and regulating the anabolism and catabolism of chondrocytes was also confirmed. Suicide is commonly found in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), while the associations among depressive symptoms and their relationships with suicidal risk remain unclear. This study identified the symptoms associated with suicidal risk and the most central symptoms in the MDD networks based on both self‐reported and clinical‐interview scales. A total of 446 outpatients with MDD were recruited. The Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) was used to assess the suicidal risk. The 13‐item Beck Depression Inventory (BDI‐13) and 17‐item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD‐17) were used to measure the depressive symptoms. Network analysis was used to estimate the network models. Ten symptoms in the BDI‐13 network were related to suicidal risk, among which sadness had the strongest association. Among the six symptoms in the HAMD‐17 network that were associated with suicidal risk, guilty feeling was the strongest. Sense of failure was the most central symptom in the BDI‐13 network, while depressed mood had the highest centrality in the HAMD‐17 network. The depressive symptoms related to suicide risk and the clinical features of MDD showed different characteristics based on different assessment types. Combining self‐reported and clinician‐rated assessments in future studies and clinical practice might lead to some new findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pancreatic cancer is a deadly disease with little response to standard therapies. Irreversible electroporation (IRE) has emerged as a novel ablative technique for the clinical treatment of pancreatic cancer. Combinations of IRE and immunotherapies, including anti‐programmed death 1 (αPD1) immune checkpoint blockade, have shown promising efficacy in both preclinical and clinical studies. However, tumor recurrence remains an obstacle that needs to be overcome. It herein is shown that IRE induces a substantial infiltration of neutrophils into pancreatic tumors. These neutrophils are then polarized into a protumor phenotype by immunosuppressive cues, in particular transforming growth factor β (TGF‐β). Using glutathione‐responsive degradable mesoporous silica nanoparticles loaded with SB525334, an inhibitor of TGF‐β1 receptor, it is demonstrated that local inhibition of TGF‐β within the tumor microenvironment promotes neutrophil polarization into an antitumor phenotype, enhances pancreatic cancer response to combined IRE and αPD1 therapy, and induces long‐term antitumor memory. The therapeutic efficacy is also attributed to tumor infiltration by CD8+ cytotoxic T cells, depletion of regulatory T cells, and maturation of antigen‐presenting dendritic cells.
