Limb immobilization causes rapid declines in muscle strength and mass. Given the role of the nervous system in immobilization‐induced weakness, targeted interventions may be able to preserve muscle strength, but not mass, and vice versa. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of two distinct interventions during 1 week of knee joint immobilization on muscle strength (isometric and concentric isokinetic peak torque), mass (bioimpedance spectroscopy and ultrasonography), and neuromuscular function (transcranial magnetic stimulation and interpolated twitch technique). Thirty‐nine healthy, college‐aged adults (21 males, 18 females) were randomized into one of four groups: immobilization only (n = 9), immobilization + action observation/mental imagery (AOMI) (n = 10), immobilization + neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) (n = 12), or control group (n = 8). The AOMI group performed daily video observation and mental imagery of knee extensions. The NMES group performed twice daily stimulation of the quadriceps femoris. Based on observed effect sizes, it appears that AOMI shows promise as a means of preserving voluntary strength, which may be modulated by neural adaptations. Strength increased from PRE to POST in the AOMI group, with +7.2% (Cohen's d = 1.018) increase in concentric isokinetic peak torque at 30°/s. However, NMES did not preserve muscle mass. Though preliminary, our findings highlight the specific nature of clinical interventions and suggest that muscle strength can be independently targeted during rehabilitation. Objective: There is growing evidence that genetic data are of benefit in the rheumatology outpatient setting by aiding early diagnosis. A genetic probability tool (G‐PROB) has been developed to aid diagnosis has not yet been tested in a real‐world setting. Our aim was to assess whether G‐PROB could aid diagnosis in the rheumatology outpatient setting using data from the Norfolk Arthritis Register (NOAR), a prospective observational cohort of patients presenting with early inflammatory arthritis. Methods: Genotypes and clinician diagnoses were obtained from patients from NOAR. Six G‐probabilities (0%–100%) were created for each patient based on known disease‐associated odds ratios of published genetic risk variants, each corresponding to one disease of rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthropathy, gout, or "other diseases." Performance of the G‐probabilities compared with clinician diagnosis was assessed. Results: We tested G‐PROB on 1,047 patients. Calibration of G‐probabilities with clinician diagnosis was high, with regression coefficients of 1.047, where 1.00 is ideal. G‐probabilities discriminated clinician diagnosis with pooled areas under the curve (95% confidence interval) of 0.85 (0.84–0.86). G‐probabilities <5% corresponded to a negative predictive value of 96.0%, for which it was possible to suggest >2 unlikely diseases for 94% of patients and >3 for 53.7% of patients. G‐probabilities >50% corresponded to a positive predictive value of 70.4%. In 55.7% of patients, the disease with the highest G‐probability corresponded to clinician diagnosis. Conclusion: G‐PROB converts complex genetic information into meaningful and interpretable conditional probabilities, which may be especially helpful at eliminating unlikely diagnoses in the rheumatology outpatient setting. This study offers a new perspective on the work of Italian theorist Giorgio Agamben, arguing that his recent engagements with the Christian tradition can be productively interpreted as a kind of political theology. As a way of making this claim, I place Agamben in dialogue with German Catholic theologian Johann Baptist Metz, as perhaps the clearest analogue in recent political theology, examining their shared genealogical roots in Marxist philosophy and the Frankfurt School, as well their mutual interests in early‐Christian and medieval apocalyptic. Furthermore, I argue that their respective projects can mutually inform one another, and together be regarded as a corrective to certain aspects of contemporary Augustinian theory. Focusing on the question of the victim, I contend that Agamben's and Metz’s approach to “universality” can serve to illuminate and to challenge some of the more “particularistic” and exclusionary elements of the Augustinian form. Recent observations suggest that El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) impacts basal melting of West Antarctic ice shelves, yet sparse ocean observations limit our understanding of the associated processes. Here we investigate how ENSO events modulate subsurface West Antarctic shelf temperatures using high‐resolution global ocean‐sea ice model simulations. During El Niño, the subsurface shelf warming between 150 m and the shelf bottom can be up to 0.5°C in front of ice shelves. This warming arises from a weaker Amundsen Sea Low (ASL) and weaker coastal easterlies that reduce on‐shelf Ekman transport of cold surface waters, enabling enhanced transport of warm Circumpolar Deep Water (CDW) onto the shelf. A largely opposite response occurs during La Niña, with a stronger ASL and stronger Ekman transport that results in less cross‐shelf CDW transport and cooling in the subsurface. These findings have implications for interpreting basal melting on interannual to decadal time‐scales in West Antarctica. The impacts of its two phases, El Niño and La Niña, extend from the tropics to Antarctica through atmospheric waves. Past studies have suggested that West Antarctic ice shelves melt more during El Niño because of warmer ocean waters at the ice shelf bases. However, oceanic changes during El Niño lead to warming on the shelf near the ice which is difficult to isolate. That is because ENSO is only one of many drivers that impact shelf water temperatures. In this work, we simulate isolated ENSO events using an ocean circulation model. We show that during El Niño, the on‐shelf flow of cold surface waters in West Antarctica, driven by coastal easterly winds, is reduced because the winds weaken. To balance out this mass deficit at the surface, more warm CDW flows onto the continental shelf below. During La Niña, we see a largely opposite response. Stronger coastal easterlies increase the on‐shelf flow of cold surface waters and less CDW is flowing onto the shelf. Our results show the link between ENSO and mass loss of the West Antarctic ice shelves and ice sheet. The Outer Continental Shelf of the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) is populated with numerous oil and natural gas (ONG) platforms which produce NOx (NOx = NO + NO2), a major component of air pollution. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is mandated to ensure that the air quality of coastal states is not degraded by these emissions. As part of a NASA‐BOEM collaboration, we conducted a satellite data‐based analysis of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) patterns and trends in the GOM. Data from the OMI and TROPOMI sensors were used to obtain 18+ year records of tropospheric column (TrC) NO2 in three GOM regions: (a) Houston urban area, (b) near shore area off the Louisiana coast, and a (c) deepwater area off the Louisiana coast. The 2004–2022 time series show a decreasing trend for the urban (−0.027 DU/decade) and near shore (−0.0022 DU/decade) areas, and an increasing trend (0.0019 DU/decade) for the deepwater area. MERRA‐2 wind and TROPOMI NO2 data were used to reveal several NO2 hotspots (up to 25% above background values) under calm wind conditions near individual platforms. The NO2 signals from these deepwater platforms and the high density of shallow water platforms closer to shore were confirmed by TrC NO2 anomalies of up to 10%, taking into account the monthly TrC NO2 climatology over the GOM. The results presented in this study establish a baseline for future estimates of emissions from the ONG hotspots and provide a methodology for analyzing NO2 measurements from the new geostationary TEMPO instrument. These time series focused on three areas: (a) Houston urban, (b) off the Louisiana coast, and (c) deepwater Gulf off Louisiana. These regions experienced changes in tropospheric column NO2 of −13.7%, −5.8%, and +5.4% per decade, respectively. We also identified NO2 hotspots from ONG platforms using TROPOMI NO2 averages under calm wind conditions. The ONG deepwater platforms enhance NO2 background amounts by 7%–13% on average, and up to 25% for the Mars and Olympus platforms combined. The results presented here will facilitate our work on emissions estimates from these sources and on applications to the recently launched TEMPO instrument. As the field of low‐dimensional materials (1D or 2D) grows and more complex and intriguing structures are continuing to be found, there is an emerging need for techniques to characterize the nanoscale mechanical properties of all kinds of 1D/2D materials, in particular in their most practical state: sitting on an underlying substrate. While traditional nanoindentation techniques cannot accurately determine the transverse Young's modulus at the necessary scale without large indentations depths and effects to and from the substrate, herein an atomic‐force‐microscopy‐based modulated nanomechanical measurement technique with Angstrom‐level resolution (MoNI/ÅI) is presented. This technique enables non‐destructive measurements of the out‐of‐plane elasticity of ultra‐thin materials with resolution sufficient to eliminate any contributions from the substrate. This method is used to elucidate the multi‐layer stiffness dependence of graphene deposited via chemical vapor deposition and discover a peak transverse modulus in two‐layer graphene. While MoNI/ÅI has been used toward great findings in the recent past, here all aspects of the implementation of the technique as well as the unique challenges in performing measurements at such small resolutions are encompassed. Summary: The biosynthesis of specialized metabolites is strictly regulated by environmental inputs such as the day–night cycle, but the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. In Petunia hybrida cv. Mitchell flowers, the biosynthesis and emission of volatile compounds display a diurnal pattern with a peak in the evening to attract nocturnal pollinators.Using petunia flowers as a model system, we found that chromatin level regulation, especially histone acetylation, plays an essential role in mediating the day–night oscillation of the biosynthetic gene network of specialized metabolites.By performing time‐course chromatin immunoprecipitation assays for histone modifications, we uncovered that a specific group of genes involved in the regulation, biosynthesis, and emission of floral volatile compounds, which displays the greatest magnitude in day–night oscillating gene expression, is associated with highly dynamic histone acetylation marks H3K9ac and H3K27ac. Specifically, the strongest oscillating genes featured a drastic removal of histone acetylation marks at night, potentially to shut down the biosynthesis of floral volatile compounds during the morning when they are not needed. Inhibiting daytime histone acetylation led to a compromised evening induction of these genes.Overall, our study suggested an active role of chromatin modification in the diurnal oscillation of specialized metabolic network. Maximal oxygen (O2) uptake (V̇O2max${\dot{V}}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}{\mathrm{max}}}$) is an important parameter with utility in health and disease. However, the relative importance of O2 transport and utilization capacities in limiting muscle V̇O2max${\dot{V}}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}{\mathrm{max}}}$ before and after endurance exercise training is not well understood. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify the mechanisms determining muscle V̇O2max${\dot{V}}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}{\mathrm{max}}}$ pre‐ and post‐endurance exercise training in initially sedentary participants. In five initially sedentary young males, radial arterial and femoral venous PO2${P}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}$ (blood samples), leg blood flow (thermodilution), and myoglobin (Mb) desaturation (1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy) were measured during maximal single‐leg knee‐extensor exercise (KE) breathing either 12%, 21% or 100% O2 both pre and post 8 weeks of KE training (1 h, 3 times per week). Mb desaturation was converted to intracellular PO2${P}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}$ using an O2 half‐saturation pressure of 3.2 mmHg. Pre‐training muscle V̇O2max${\dot{V}}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}{\mathrm{max}}}$ was not significantly different across inspired O2 conditions (12%: 0.47 ± 0.10; 21%: 0.52 ± 0.13; 100%: 0.54 ± 0.01 L min–1, all q > 0.174), despite significantly greater muscle mean capillary–intracellular PO2${P}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}$ gradients in normoxia (34 ± 3 mmHg) and hyperoxia (40 ± 7 mmHg) than hypoxia (29 ± 5 mmHg, both q < 0.024). Post‐training muscle V̇O2max${\dot{V}}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}{\mathrm{max}}}$ was significantly different across all inspired O2 conditions (12%: 0.59 ± 0.11; 21%: 0.68 ± 0.11; 100%: 0.76 ± 0.09 mmHg, all q < 0.035), as were the muscle mean capillary–intracellular PO2${P}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}$ gradients (12%: 32 ± 2; 21%: 37 ± 2; 100%: 45 ± 7 mmHg, all q < 0.029). In these initially sedentary participants, endurance exercise training changed the basis of limitation on muscle V̇O2max${\dot{V}}_{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}{\mathrm{max}}}$ in normoxia from the mitochondrial capacity to utilize O2 to the capacity to transport O2 to the mitochondria. We used structural equation modeling to test client meaningful experiences in counseling and the therapeutic working alliance (TWA) as predictors of affective distress, controlling for clients' age, gender, race and ethnicity, and length of counseling relationship. In a sample of 306 adult clients engaging in counseling, we a found statistically significant relationship between client meaningful experiences in counseling and the TWA (r = 0.80, p < 0.001). There was a significant and negative direct effect from client meaningful experiences in counseling to affective distress (β = −0.45, p < 0.001). However, we did not find a significant direct effect of the TWA on affective distress (β = −0.00, p = 0.97). Implications for counselors, supervisors, and counselor educators are discussed. Ecosystem function is a foundational part of ecosystem health, but it is often neglected in the practice of ecosystem monitoring. We conducted a review of freshwater ecosystem management literature, analysing 60 documents across multiple organisations to understand the prevalence of function in conceptualisations and measures of ecosystem health. Only 28% (n = 13) of analysed documents included definitions of waterway health that included function, and only 30% (n = 18) integrated function into their conceptualisations of waterway health. More generally, we observed noticeable deviation in analysed documents from management best practices advocated for by contemporary ecosystem science – including unclear rationales, vague language, and imprecise metrics for assessing waterway health. We discuss these findings in broader ecosystem management contexts. Our findings support previous observations of a strong structural bias in current ecosystem health monitoring and suggest the need for closer examinations into the processes and rationales by which such an important factor could be absent from monitoring programs. Background: Zebrafish larvae are translucent, allowing in vivo analysis of gut development and physiology, including gut motility. While recent progress has been made in measuring gut motility in larvae, challenges remain which can influence results, such as how data are interpreted, opportunities for technical user error, and inconsistencies in methods. Methods: To overcome these challenges, we noninvasively introduced Nile Red fluorescent dye to fill the intraluminal gut space in zebrafish larvae and collected serial confocal microscopic images of gut fluorescence. We automated the detection of fluorescent‐contrasted contraction events against the median‐subtracted signal and compared it to manually annotated gut contraction events across anatomically defined gut regions. Supervised machine learning (multiple logistic regression) was then used to discriminate between true contraction events and noise. To demonstrate, we analyzed motility in larvae under control and reserpine‐treated conditions. We also used automated event detection analysis to compare unfed and fed larvae. Key Results: Automated analysis retained event features for proximal midgut‐originating retrograde and anterograde contractions and anorectal‐originating retrograde contractions. While manual annotation showed reserpine disrupted gut motility, machine learning only achieved equivalent contraction discrimination in controls and failed to accurately identify contractions after reserpine due to insufficient intraluminal fluorescence. Automated analysis also showed feeding had no effect on the frequency of anorectal‐originating contractions. Conclusions & Inferences: Automated event detection analysis rapidly and accurately annotated contraction events, including the previously neglected phenomenon of anorectal contractions. However, challenges remain to discriminate contraction events based on intraluminal fluorescence under treatment conditions that disrupt functional motility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Red raspberry is an economically important horticultural crop that is known for its fruit's sweet flavour and nutritional value. A reliable and economic genotyping platform is needed to facilitate clonal/variety identification. Previous attempts for clonal identification utilized morphological traits or low‐throughput, difficult to score dinucleotide‐containing simple sequence repeat molecular markers. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), despite having lower allelic diversity, are numerous across the genome and more easily converted to high‐throughput assays restoring differential power. In this study, we use the kompetitive allele‐specific PCR (KASP™) chemistry, an affordable and high‐throughput platform, to develop a panel of SNPs to distinguish a diverse collection of red raspberry accessions for clonal identification. The panel consists of 48 KASP assays that show high concordance with whole genome sequencing, allelic balance, and recovery rate and a minimal set of 24 assays that distinguished the same accessions differentiated by the larger panel. Background and Aims: The World Health Assembly recommends integration of palliative care into treatment of patients with any life‐limiting condition, yet patients with non‐malignant disease are less likely to receive specialist palliative care (SPC). This study compares SPC offered to patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) versus patients with chronic liver disease without HCC (CLD without HCC). Methods: Patients who died from CLD or HCC over 5 years (2013–2017) in England were identified using a dataset linking national data on all hospital admissions (Hospital Episode Statistics – HES) with national mortality data from the Office for National Statistics (HES – ONS). The primary outcome was the proportion of patients who received inpatient SPC in their last year of life (LYOL). Secondary outcomes were (1) early inpatient SPC input and (2) the proportion dying in a hospice. The outcomes were compared between patients with HCC and CLD without HCC. Results: 29 669 patients were identified, 8143 of whom had HCC. Patients with HCC were significantly more likely to receive inpatient SPC input—adjusted OR 3.74 (95% CI 3.52–3.97) and early inpatient SPC input—adjusted OR 7.26 (95% CI 6.38–8.25) and die in a hospice OR 8.23 (95% CI 7.33–9.24) than patients with CLD without HCC. Conclusions: These data highlight the stark inequity in access to SPC services between patients with HCC and patients with CLD without HCC in England. Juvenile white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) typically aggregate along coastal beaches; however, high levels of recruitment and shifting oceanographic conditions may be causing habitat use expansions. Telemetry data indicate increased habitat use at the Northern Channel Islands (California, USA) by juvenile white shark that may be in response to increased population density at aggregation locations, or anomalous oceanographic events that impact habitat use or expand available habitat. Supramolecular macrocyclic forces have been used to trap phytate, myo‐inositol‐1,2,3,4,5,6‐hexakisphosphate, a key bioanion with multiple roles in metabolic processes. Due to the complex chemistry of six multivalent phosphates surrounding the small, cyclic inositol framework, crystallographic information of simple phytate salts has been elusive. This report represents a combined crystallographic, theoretical, and solution binding investigation of a supramolecular macrocyclic complex of phytate. Together, the results provide significant insight to phytate's intramolecular and intermolecular interactions at the microenvironment level. The macrocycle‐phytate aggregates consist of phytate anionic pairs, each partly sandwiched by two 24‐membered, amide/amine‐based cationic macrocycles. The phytate ion pairs hold the tetrameric macrocyclic array together by six strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Both phytates crystallize in 1a5e phosphate conformations (one axial (P2) and five equatorial phosphates). Solution NMR binding studies in 1 : 1 DMSO‐d6 : D2O indicate 2 : 1 macrocycle:phytate associations, suggesting that the sandwich‐like nature of the complex holds together in solution. DFT studies indicate the likely occurrence of dynamic intramolecular interchange of phosphate protons, as well as important roles for the axial (P2) phosphate in both intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. Local studies show upslope shifts in the distribution of tropical birds in response to warming temperatures. Unanswered is whether these upward shifts occur regionally across many species. We considered a nearly 2000‐km length of the Northern Andes, where deforestation, temperature, and extreme weather events have increased during the past decades. Range‐restricted bird species are particularly vulnerable to such events and occur in exceptionally high numbers in this region. Using abundant crowd‐sourced data from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology database, eBird, and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, we documented distributions of nearly 200 such species. We examined whether species shifted their elevational ranges over time by comparing observed versus expected occurrences below a low elevational threshold and above a high elevational threshold for 2 periods: before and after 2005. We predicted fewer observations at lower elevations (those below the threshold) and more at upper elevations (those above the threshold) after 2005. We also tested for deforestation effects at lower elevations within each species' distribution ranges. We compared relative forest loss with the differences between observed and expected occurrences across the elevational range. Species' retreats from lower elevations were ubiquitous and involved a 23–40% decline in prevalence at the lowest elevations. Increases at higher elevations were not consistent. The retreats occurred across a broad spectrum of species, from predominantly lowland to predominantly highland. Because deforestation showed no relationship with species retreats, we contend that a warming climate is the most parsimonious explanation for such shifts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The canonical technique for nonlinear modeling of spatial/point‐referenced data is known as kriging in geostatistics, and as Gaussian Process (GP) regression for surrogate modeling and statistical learning. This article reviews many similarities shared between kriging and GPs, but also highlights some important differences. One is that GPs impose a process that can be used to automate kernel/variogram inference, thus removing the human from the loop. The GP framework also suggests a probabilistically valid means of scaling to handle a large corpus of training data, that is, an alternative to ordinary kriging. Finally, recent GP implementations are tailored to make the most of modern computing architectures, such as multi‐core workstations and multi‐node supercomputers. We argue that such distinctions are important even in classically geostatistical settings. To back that up, we present out‐of‐sample validation exercises using two, real, large‐scale borehole data sets acquired in the mining of gold and other minerals. We compare classic kriging with several variations of modern GPs and conclude that the latter is more economical (fewer human and compute resources), more accurate and offers better uncertainty quantification. We go on to show how the fully generative modeling apparatus provided by GPs can gracefully accommodate left‐censoring of small measurements, as commonly occurs in mining data and other borehole assays. Introduction Method Results Conclusion The development of evidence‐based treatments relies on accurate theoretical frameworks sensitive to the lived realities of the populations from which they are derived. Yet, the perspectives of Black youth are vastly underrepresented in extant theories of suicidal behavior. Cultural Consensus Modeling provides an evidence‐based approach for developing a culturally informed understanding of suicide risk among Black youth.Participants were 50 Black adolescents (Mage = 16.20 years; 76.0% male) who completed Phase 1 of a Cultural Consensus Modeling study. Participants freely listed reasons for suicide and reasons for living among similar peer Black youth. Responses were synthesized and coded for major themes.The most common reasons for suicide were racism (40%), depression (32%), poverty (26%), and bullying (22%). The most common reasons for living were family (58%), having a purpose or goals (36%), friends (30%), and hope for a better future (26%).Responses highlighted issues of racism and social justice, depression, and poverty, as well as the protective role of relationships, living for the future, and contributing to Black empowerment. Future research should utilize Cultural Consensus Modeling to elevate the voices of Black youth, improving extant theories of suicide, and identifying unique mechanisms or opportunities for prevention. Present in a number of small molecule derivatives that display a wide range of biological activities, the dihydropyrrolo[3,4‐b]indol‐(2H)‐one (DHPI) core represents an underexplored heterocyclic scaffold. Given the pharmaceutical potential of the DHPI motif, the development of synthetic methodologies that permit their expedient assembly would be highly desirable. Herein, we describe a novel strategy for the construction of the DHPI core from 3‐iodo‐1H‐indolyl substrates, employing an unprecedented Pd‐catalyzed intramolecular aminocarbonylative ring closure. The compatibility of our optimized protocol with various functional groups is highlighted through the synthesis of a range of diversely substituted DHPI derivatives in up to 90 % isolated yield. Background: Colostral immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentration is critical to the attainment of adequate transfer of passive immunity in cattle, however, studies comparing available tools for measurement of colostral IgG concentration in beef cattle are limited. Objectives: To report the agreement between 3 commercially available tests for evaluating IgG concentration in beef colostrum. Animals: Two hundred six beef‐breed cows hospitalized for calving management or dystocia. Methods: Retrospective study to assess IgG of whole colostrum measured stall‐side via turbidimetric immunoassay (TI) and brix refractometry (BRIX), compared to fat separated (FS) analysis via single radial‐immunodiffusion (RID; reference standard), TI‐FS and BRIX‐FS. Test performance was assessed using Passing Bablock regression, Bland‐Altman analysis, and area under the curve to determine optimal thresholds. Results: Correlation between RID and TI‐FS, BRIX‐FS, or BRIX was similar (Spearman's ρ = 0.717, 0.715, 0.716, respectively) but correlation for TI was poor (ρ = 0.586). Regression analysis identified a substantial constant (−214.75 [CI: −272.03 to −178.07]) and proportional (13.24 [CI: 11.81‐15.37]) bias between the RID and TI‐FS which was similar for TI. TI‐FS concentrations of 28.47, 38.75, and 50.62 g/L, BRIX‐FS of ≤21.9%, ≤24.0%, and ≤27.4%, and BRIX of ≤21.3%, ≤23.8%, and ≤26.4% indicated IgG concentrations <50, <100, and <150 g/L, respectively; appropriate cutoffs for TI could not be generated. Background: Attainment of adequate transfer of passive immunity (TPI) is critical to health of calves; however, studies comparing available tools for measurement of TPI in individual beef animals are limited. Objectives: To report agreement between 4 tests evaluating individual TPI status in beef calves. Animals: One hundred ninety‐six beef calves born to cows and heifers presenting for calving management or dystocia. Methods: Retrospective study to assess serum immunoglobulin (IgG) concentrations via turbidimetric immunoassay (TI), gamma‐glutamyl transferase (GGT), serum total protein (TP), and single radial immunodiffusion (RID; reference standard). Test agreement was evaluated using Passing‐Bablok regression, Bland‐Altman analysis, Cohen's kappa, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves with and without covariate adjustment to determine optimal thresholds. Results: Correlation between RID and test results varied: TI, ρ = 0.757; TP, ρ = 0.715; GGT: ρ = 0.413. For the TI compared to RID, regression analysis identified a constant (intercept = −0.51 [CI: −2.63, 3.05]) and proportional (slope = 1.87 [CI: 1.69, 2.08]) bias. Based on ROC, TI concentrations of ≤9.89 and ≤13.76 g/L, and TP concentrations of ≤5.5 and ≤6.0 g/dL, indicated IgG concentrations <18.0 and <25.0 g/L, respectively. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Within this cohort of calves, TI demonstrated the best correlation with RID; however, significant bias was identified which led to frequent underestimation of IgG concentration. Serum total protein demonstrated less correlation with RID but had less misclassification than TI. Both TI and TP demonstrated less correlation for calves that received colostrum replacement prompting clinical awareness of colostrum type when evaluating individual TPI in beef calves. We evaluate the determinants of officer support for their agency participating in the 1033 Program: a program that facilitates the flow of military hardware to local law enforcement agencies. In doing so, we provide insight into why officers demand such equipment, which, in turn, may partially explain patterns of program participation and equipment usage. We utilize a series of random forest models to examine survey data collected from officers in a large police department, finding that being White and exhibiting animus toward minority communities are highly predictive of officer support across models. Our findings validate long‐held public concerns regarding the distributional patterns and consequences of 1033 transfers: concerns that have led to a number of proposed policy changes at the state and federal levels meant to restrict program usage (e.g., EO‐13688, HR‐1694, MO HB‐330). Barberry (Berberis thunbergii) is a widely established invasive shrub in temperate forests of the northeastern United States with the potential to alter soil arthropod communities through changes to soil nutrient cycling and acidity.We compared soil arthropod taxa and functional feeding groups between invaded and nearby control areas in a paired observational survey.Community ordination analysis suggested minimal differences between barberry and control samples. In contrast, pairwise differences revealed elevated densities of multiple taxa in barberry‐invaded soils.Among taxa that were able to be defined by functional feeding group and were collected at higher densities under barberry, all were detritivores. For example, barberry‐invaded soils harboured an average of 40% more Isopoda and more than twice as many Diplopoda per unit dry compared with control samples. Differences we observed between barberry and control samples despite the limited study spatiotemporal scope demonstrate the potential for invasions to restructure soil arthropod communities.Observed patterns potentially reflects elevated leaf litter decomposition rates associated with the invasion and results also highlight the need to integrate site‐specific environmental attributes when assessing the impact of invading plants on soil ecosystems. Background: Data on platinum sensitivity of low‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (LGSOC) in the upfront setting is lacking, and there is limited and contradictory information on chemotherapy responses in recurrent disease. Methods: Patients with LGSOC seen at a comprehensive cancer center from January 1, 1998 to September 30, 2021 were identified from institutional databases. Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) or adjuvant platinum‐based chemotherapy and to second‐ to fifth‐line regimens was retrospectively characterized by Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) v1.1. Wilcoxon rank‐sum and two‐tailed Fisher exact tests were employed. Results: Of 50 patients, 12 received platinum doublets for suboptimal residual disease and 11 as NACT. Of 12 patients with suboptimal residual disease, seven (58%) achieved objective responses (five partial responses [PRs] and two complete responses); of the 11 patients who underwent NACT, one (9%) achieved a PR (p =.027). The 15 remaining patients had stable disease on first‐line platinum chemotherapy. Of 44 patients who recurred, 20 had RECIST‐evaluable responses to second‐line and 27 to third‐line chemotherapy. Objective response rates to platinum‐based chemotherapy were 22% (two of nine) in the second line and 10% (one of 10) in the third. In second and third lines, highest response rates were observed with nonplatinum chemotherapy with bevacizumab, at 100% (two of two) and 30% (three of 10), respectively. Conclusions: Primary platinum‐based chemotherapy has moderate activity in LGSOC and minimal activity in the recurrent setting, suggesting standard definitions of platinum sensitivity may not apply in LGSOC. Parametric modeling of downwelling longwave irradiance under all‐sky conditions (LW↓) typically involves "correcting" a clear‐ (or non‐overcast) sky model estimate using solar‐irradiance‐based proxies of cloud cover in lieu of actual cloud cover given uncertainties and measurement challenges of the latter. While such approaches are deemed sound, their application in time and space is inherently limited. We report on a correction model free of solar irradiance‐derived cloud proxies that is applicable at the true daily (24 hr) and global scales. The new "cloud‐free" correction model demonstrates superior performance in a range of environments relative to existing cloud‐free modeling approaches and to corrections based on solar‐derived cloudiness proxies. Literature‐based performance benchmarking indicates a performance that is often comparable to—and in some cases superior to—performances yielded by conventional parametric modeling approaches employing locally or regionally calibrated parameters, as well as to performances of satellite‐based algorithms. In this article, I describe a novel position on the semantics of artificial intelligence. I present a problem for the current artificial neural networks used in machine learning, specifically with relation to natural language tasks. I then propose that from a metasemantic level, meaning in machines can best be interpreted as radically contextualist. Rivers and lakes are intrinsically connected waterbodies yet they are rarely used to hydrologically constrain one another with remote sensing. Here we begin to bridge the gap between river and lake hydrology with the introduction of the LakeFlow algorithm. LakeFlow uses river‐lake mass conservation and observations from the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite to provide river discharge estimates of lake and reservoir inflows and outflows. We test LakeFlow performance at three lakes using a synthetic SWOT data set assuming the maximum measurement errors defined by the mission science requirements, and we include modeled lateral inflow and lake evaporation data to further constrain the mass balance. We find that LakeFlow produces promising discharge estimates (median Nash‐Sutcliffe efficiency = 0.88, relative bias = 14%). LakeFlow can inform water resources management by providing global lake inflow and outflow estimates, highlighting a path for recognizing rivers and lakes as an interconnected system. Satellite remote sensing of lakes and rivers has become increasingly important for water management but little work has been done to estimate streamflow at river‐lake interfaces. We test LakeFlow using synthetic data at three U.S. lakes in Georgia, Arizona and Kansas, and find that it yields promising estimates of streamflow at river‐lake boundaries. This study offers a new perspective on the much‐discussed debate between French phenomenologist Jean‐Luc Marion and postructuralist theorist Jacques Derrida on the question of 'negative theology' and the Christian mystical tradition. It argues that Marion's critique of Derrida betrays a fundamental misunderstanding, specifically, that it fails to recognise that Derrida is not interested in negative theology qua theology, but rather as a discursive practice with certain resources for the performative 'unsaying' of logocentric systems. It continues to show that Derrida's principal object is not the God of apophatic theology, but the broader, juridico‐political implications of all 'transcendental signifieds'. Finally, it suggests that Marion's oversight of these facts in his defence of the apophatic tradition unwittingly legitimates Derrida's critique, to the extent that it insulates the Christian tradition from external criticism, and thereby limits the responsiveness of that tradition to the demands of justice. Background: Induction immunosuppression in heart transplant recipients varies greatly by center. Basiliximab (BAS) is the most commonly used induction immunosuppressant but has not been shown to reduce rejection or improve survival. The objective of this retrospective study was to compare rejection, infection, and mortality within the first 12 months following heart transplant in patients who received BAS or no induction. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of adult heart transplant recipients given BAS or no induction from January 1, 2017 to May 31, 2021. The primary endpoint was incidence of treated acute cellular rejection (ACR) at 12‐months post‐transplant. Secondary endpoints included ACR at 90 days post‐transplant, incidence of antibody‐mediated rejection (AMR) at 90 days and 1 year, incidence of infection, and all‐cause mortality at 1 year. Results: A total of 108 patients received BAS, and 26 patients received no induction within the specified timeframe. There was a lower incidence of ACR within the first year in the BAS group compared to the no induction group (27.7 vs. 68.2%, p <.002). BAS was independently associated with a lower probability of having a rejection event during the first 12‐months post‐transplant (hazard ratio (HR).285, 95% confidence interval [CI].142–.571, p <.001). There was no difference in the rate of infection and in mortality after hospital discharge at 1‐year post‐transplant (6% vs. 0%, p =.20). Conclusion: BAS appears to be associated with greater freedom from rejection without an increase in infections. A 10‐year‐old male castrated Labrador Retriever cross was referred for evaluation of acute vision loss. Ophthalmic examination revealed mild left sided exophthalmos, bilateral resting mydriasis, an absent direct and reduced consensual PLR in the left eye and reduced direct and absent consensual PLR in the right eye. Examination of the cornea and anterior segment with slit lamp biomicroscopy was unremarkable. Indirect fundoscopy revealed a left optic nerve head obscured by a darkly pigmented lesion. Fundic examination in the right eye was unremarkable. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a smoothly marginated, lobulated cone to irregularly shaped, strongly T1 hyperintense, T2 and T2 fluid‐attenuated inversion recovery hypointense, strongly contrast enhancing mass closely associated with the entire left optic nerve, extending across the optic chiasm and into the right optic nerve ventrally. Full clinical staging revealed no evidence of metastasis. Exenteration of the left eye was performed. Histopathology revealed an unencapsulated, poorly demarcated, multilobulated and infiltrative pigmented mass that was effacing the posterior choroid and optic nerve. The mass was composed of a moderately pleomorphic population of heavily pigmented polygonal cells arranged in sheets and clusters, displaying moderate anisocytosis and anisokaryosis. The population of cells contained moderate amounts of abundant brown‐black granular pigment consistent with melanin within the cytoplasm. Mitotic figures averaged approximately three per ten 400× fields (2.37 mm2). While topical corticosteroids are also often used for infantile psoriasis, the large surface area of moderate-to-severe GPP entails a higher risk for systemic side effects. The role of singlet oxygen potentially mediating increased conformational flexibility of a disulfide was investigated. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the singlet oxygenation of 1,2‐dimethyldisulfane produces a peroxy intermediate. This intermediate adopts a structure with a longer S–S bond distance and a more planar torsional angle θ (C–S–S–C) compared with the nonoxygenated 1,2‐dimethyldisulfane. The lengthened S–S bond enables a facile rotation about the torsional angle in the semicircle region 0° < θ < 210°, that is ~5 kcal mol−1 lower in energy than the disulfane. The peroxy intermediate bears nO → σS–S and nO → σ*S–S interactions that stabilize the S–O bond but destabilize the S–S bond, which contrasts with stabilizing nS → σ*S–S hyperconjugative effects in the disulfane S–S bond. Subsequent departure of O2 from the disulfane peroxy intermediate is reminiscent of peroxy intermediates which also expel O2, yet facilitate cis‐trans isomerizations of stilbenes, hexadienes, cyanines, and carotenes. We examined doctoral students' experiences of nondisclosure with their dissertation chairs. Using a hermeneutic phenomenology design, we analyzed two individual interviews of 10 doctoral students. We identified the following three themes: (a) the professional dynamics in the relationship, (b) the interpersonal and cultural dynamics in the relationship, and (c) prioritization of completing the dissertation. Background: Bereavement during childhood is associated with elevated rates of suicide‐related behaviours among youth. However, no interventions explicitly address suicidal ideation among bereaved youth. The Supporting Grieving Teens (SGT) programme was created as a preventive intervention to reduce suicide risk among bereaved youth. Methods: This preliminary open trial evaluated the feasibility, acceptability and preliminary outcomes of the SGT intervention among a sample of bereaved adolescents. Participants were 32 adolescents, 12–17 years of age (M = 14.44, SD = 1.56; 87.5% female, 31.3% Hispanic, 31.3% African American/Black and 25.0% non‐Hispanic White), seeking bereavement‐related services at a trauma and grief speciality outpatient clinic. Participants completed a two‐session web‐assisted intervention prior to enrolling in standard outpatient therapy. Results: There was a high rate of completion of the intervention, with 93.8% of those who provided assent completing both intervention sessions. Youth reported high levels of satisfaction with the intervention. Preliminary evaluation of outcomes demonstrated that the intervention was associated with small but significant reductions in thwarted belongingness and suicide ideation over the course of treatment and follow‐up. However, reliable change indices indicated reliable improvements for only a subset of participants. Limitations: This study utilised an open trial design without a control group, and so causality cannot be inferred. Additional limitations include the small sample size and limited variability in suicidal ideation in the sample. Conclusions: The intervention shows promise as a brief, web‐assisted psychosocial intervention for activating youths' existing social support networks. Aim: This exploratory study reports on borderline symptomatology within a sample of individuals at clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR‐P) through a validated, self‐report instrument, the short version of the Borderline Symptom List (BSL‐23). Methods: The sample consisted of 44 help‐seeking CHR‐P youth (ages 14–29 years) who completed an initial evaluation at a specialized clinic for psychosis‐risk. Results: The mean BSL‐23 score was 1.5 (SD = 1.0, range 0.1–4.0). Higher scores were strongly associated with greater reported depressive symptoms (r = 0.84, p < 0.001). Additionally, borderline symptoms associated with attenuated positive symptoms (r = 0.32, p = 0.034) and social anxiety (r = 0.34, p = 0.027). Borderline symptomatology was not associated with role or social functioning. Conclusions: This study is one of the first examinations of borderline symptomatology within a CHR‐P sample through a validated self‐report measure. Lithic raw material variation is valuable for assessing the scale of human mobility, differential access to and from raw material sources, and prehistoric exchange patterns. Recent advancements in non‐destructive reflectance spectroscopy have proven to be more accurate in provenance investigations compared with the macroscopic (visual) identification technique for lithic artifacts. Here, we use visible/near‐infrared reflectance and Fourier transform reflectance spectroscopy on a collection of 845 lithic bifaces at Poverty Point (16WC5) site in northeastern Louisiana, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is well‐known for the presence of nonlocal materials, including stone tools. This study describes the first systematic approach to analyzing and interpreting hyperspectral reflectance data for cryptocrystalline silicate (e.g., chert and flint) artifacts at Poverty Point site. The chert materials identified in this study reaffirm the idea that tool stones arriving at the Poverty Point site came from diverse geologic sources, covering an expansive geographic area. Total dissolved gas pressure (PTDG) measurements are useful to measure accurate in situ dissolved gas concentrations in groundwater, but challenged by in‐well degassing. Although in‐well degassing has been widely observed, its cause(s) are not clear. We investigated the mechanism(s) by which gas‐charged groundwater in a recently pumped well becomes degassed. Vertical PTDG and dissolved gas concentration profiles were monitored in the standing water column (SWC) of a groundwater well screened in a gas‐charged aquifer for 7 days before and 15 days after pumping. Prior to pumping, PTDG values remained relatively constant and below calculated bubbling pressure (PBUB) at all depths. In contrast, significant increases in PTDG were observed at all depths after pumping was initiated, as fresh groundwater with elevated in situ PTDG values was pumped through the well screen. After pumping ceased, PTDG values decreased to below PBUB at all depths over the 15‐day post‐pumping period, indicating well degassing was active over this time frame. Vertical profiles of estimated dissolved gas concentrations before and after pumping provided insight into the mechanism(s) by which in‐well degassing occurred in the SWC. During both monitoring periods, downward mixing of dominant atmospheric and/or tracer gases, and upwards mixing of dominant groundwater gases were observed in the SWC. The key mechanisms responsible for in‐well degassing were (i) bubble exsolution when PTDG exceeded PBUB as gas‐charged well water moves upwards in the SWC during recovery (i.e., hydraulic gradient driven convection), (ii) microadvection caused by the upward migration of bubbles under buoyancy, and (iii) long‐term, thermally driven vertical convection. Quantitative models of black‐tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus) habitat selection do not exist for Pacific Northwest landscapes but are needed to make predictions of how deer respond to timber harvest. We developed models to estimate habitat selection by black‐tailed deer within seasonal home ranges in the west‐central Cascade Mountains, Washington, USA, from 2008–2019. Even with moderately high global positioning system (GPS) fix success within summer and winter (both averages ≥0.87), we were concerned about landscape or vegetation characteristics causing fix success failure that would bias estimates of habitat selection. Year of GPS‐collar production, deer activity, and diel period (night, day, crepuscular) were associated with fix success. The odds of acquiring a fix were 2.53 times greater when the deer were inactive compared to active, and this difference was greater for those deer with higher average percent canopy cover within their home range. These relationships only explained a portion of the variation in the data and did not negate concerns about the effects of missing locations when estimating habitat selection, so we estimated deer habitat selection within summer and winter using an integrated step selection function (iSSF) and a probability of detection integrated step selection function (PDiSSF). The iSSF ignored missing fixes; the PDiSSF accounted for GPS fix failure due to the landscape and vegetation conditions. Covariates in the final summer PDiSSF included step length, an index of forage biomass, distance to cover‐forage edge, and distance to road. The winter model was similar but did not include forage biomass. We modeled the probability of detection in the PDiSSF as a function of canopy cover in both seasonal models. The standard iSSF resulted in estimates of stronger selection for areas with higher biomass, presumably because fix success was higher in these more open areas. Predictions of habitat selection from the final PDiSSF summer model evaluated well with independent data from a nearby study area. Evaluation of the final winter model was less promising. Ignoring missing GPS locations, even with an average fix success as high as 87%, would have led to different predictions of habitat selection by black‐tailed deer. We recommend that researchers consider the effect of habitat‐induced bias in fix success on the accuracy of estimates of habitat selection and consider using the PDiSSF to remove bias related to missing fixes. The recent Assessment of Standard Operating Procedures for Ozonesondes 2.0 (WMO/GAW Report #268) addressed questions of homogeneity and long‐term stability in global electrochemical concentration cell (ECC) ozone sounding network time series. Among its recommendations was adoption of a standard for evaluating data quality in ozonesonde time series. Total column ozone (TCO) derived from the sondes compared to TCO from Aura's Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) is a primary quality indicator. Comparisons of sonde ozone with Aura's Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) are used to assess the stability of stratospheric ozone. This paper provides a comprehensive examination of global ozonesonde network data stability and accuracy since 2004 in light of the sudden post‐2013 TCO "dropoff" of ∼3%–4% that was reported previously at select stations (Stauffer et al., 2020, https://doi.org/10.1029/2019GL086791). Comparisons with Aura OMI TCO averaged across the network of 60 stations are stable within about ±2% over the past 18 years. Sonde TCO has similar stability compared to three other TCO satellite instruments, and the stratospheric ozone measurements average to within ±5% of MLS from 50 to 10 hPa. Thus, sonde data are reliable for trends, but with a caveat applied for a subset of dropoff stations in the tropics and subtropics. The dropoff is associated with only one of two major ECC instrument types. A detailed examination of ECC serial numbers pinpoints the timing of the dropoff. However, we find that overall, ozonesonde data are stable and accurate compared to independent measurements over the past two decades. Plain Language Summary: Ozonesondes provide accurate ozone measurements from the surface to ∼30‐km altitude and are used as a reference for studies of satellite data, trends, pollution, and climate. Updated guidelines for sonde preparation and adoption of sonde total column ozone (TCO) comparisons with satellite TCO as a "data quality" reference were published in 2021 by the Assessment of Standard Operating Procedures for Ozonesondes (ASOPOS) 2.0 panel in WMO/GAW Report 268. We report the first application of the ASOPOS 2.0 protocol to TCO evaluation from the 60‐station global ozonesonde network (42,042 profiles total). With Aura OMI TCO as the satellite reference (October 2004 to mid‐2021), we find that TCO readings from the global ozonesonde network are remarkably stable, consistently within ±2% of the satellite. An exception occurs at only a small subset of tropical and subtropical locations that use one type of ozonesonde instrument. The latter result confirms our earlier report that a sudden TCO drop occurs at selected sites after 2013. The timing and magnitude of the dropoff are revisited. The hypothesis that ozonesonde production changes are a contributor remains, with station‐specific factors possibly affecting the magnitude of the bias. Overall, global ozonesonde network data are of high quality and stability. Objective: The Interpersonal Theory of Suicide (ITS) implicates thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness as casually related to suicide desire. The self‐report Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ) is the most commonly used measure to assess belongingness and burdensomeness, including in youth. No parent‐report version of the INQ exists. The current study adapted the ten‐item version of the INQ (INQ‐10) for parent report of youth belongingness and burdensomeness, thereby moving ITS research in youth to a multi‐informant measurement approach, and examined its factor structure and convergent and concurrent validity. Methods: Participants were 168 clinic‐referred youths ages 9–17 years (58.9% female; Mage = 11.91) and their parents. Results: Findings supported a two‐factor structure of the parent INQ. In support of convergent and concurrent validity, parent‐reported belongingness and burdensomeness were significantly associated with youth‐reported belongingness and burdensomeness, suicide ideation, anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, and impairment. Transpiration makes up the bulk of total evaporation in forested environments yet remains challenging to predict at landscape‐to‐global scales. We harnessed independent estimates of daily transpiration derived from co‐located sap flow and eddy‐covariance measurement systems and applied the triple collocation technique to evaluate predictions from big leaf models requiring no calibration. In total, four models in 608 unique configurations were evaluated at 21 forested sites spanning a wide diversity of biophysical attributes and environmental backgrounds. We found that simpler models that neither explicitly represented aerodynamic forcing nor canopy conductance achieved higher accuracy and signal‐to‐noise levels when optimally configured (rRMSE = 20%; R2 = 0.89). Irrespective of model type, optimal configurations were those making use of key plant functional type dependent parameters, daily LAI, and constraints based on atmospheric moisture demand over soil moisture supply. Our findings have implications for more informed water resource management based on hydrological modeling and remote sensing. Forests transfer moisture from below the surface to the atmosphere via transpiration, affecting surface moisture budgets and weather patterns at local‐to‐regional scales. Our ability to accurately predict transpiration in forests is thus critical to reliable weather prediction and more informed water resource management. The most accurate predictions stem from process‐oriented models with detailed representations of plant hydraulic architecture and leaf stomata regulation. These models, however, rely on inputs that are not widely available and thus are not well‐suited for predictions across broader spatial scales. Here, we sought to identify models that could be readily applied using conventional input data streams to predict daily transpiration across a wide diversity of forested ecosystems and over large spatial scales. This was carried out by evaluating predictions emanating from four models of varying complexity against two independent estimates of daily transpiration. We found the most parsimonious models to be those requiring few meterological variables and one forest structural variable as input, achieving an accuracy 33% higher and explaining 16% greater variance than the most complex models requiring additional meteorological and forest structural variables as input. Objectives: Trauma and resulting functional limitations demonstrate associations with perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness, factors contributing to elevated risk for suicidal ideation. However, survivors display differential risk in response to impairment, highlighting the need for research on exacerbating factors. The current study examined the impact of brooding on the association of functional impairment with burdensomeness and belongingness among trauma‐exposed undergraduates (N = 262). Method: Trauma was assessed via clinical interview with questionnaires for study variables. Regression models examined the unique and interactive effects of physical impairment, emotional impairment, and brooding on burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness. Results: An interaction of brooding and impairment due to emotional difficulties was observed for burdensomeness with impairment linked to elevated burdensomeness at high (β = −0.46; p < 0.001), but not low (β = −0.07; p = 0.476) brooding. Impairment due to emotional difficulties (β = −0.38; p < 0.001) and brooding (β = 0.25; p < 0.001) were associated with belongingness. The complexation of MgII with adenosine 5′‐triphosphate (ATP) is omnipresent in biochemical energy conversion, but is difficult to interrogate directly. Here we use the spin‐1/2 β‐emitter 31Mg to study MgII‐ATP complexation in 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium acetate (EMIM‐Ac) solutions using β‐radiation‐detected nuclear magnetic resonance (β‐NMR). We demonstrate that (nuclear) spin‐polarized 31Mg, following ion‐implantation from an accelerator beamline into EMIM‐Ac, binds to ATP within its radioactive lifetime before depolarizing. The evolution of the spectra with solute concentration indicates that the implanted 31Mg initially bind to the solvent acetate anions, whereafter they undergo dynamic exchange and form either a mono‐ (31Mg‐ATP) or di‐nuclear (31MgMg‐ATP) complex. The chemical shift of 31Mg‐ATP is observed up‐field of 31MgMg‐ATP, in accord with quantum chemical calculations. Introduction: Existing CBT protocols for internalizing disorders target thoughts and behaviors related to anxiety and/or depression, but do not explicitly target other identified risk factors for suicide ideation, including perceived burdensomeness toward others. The aims of the current study were to (1) develop a novel, brief module (the "Give program") targeting perceived burdensomeness toward others that can be embedded within existing CBT protocols for youth internalizing disorders, (2) evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of the module with an eye toward intervention refinement, and (3) examine reductions in perceived burdensomeness. Methods: Participants were 18 clinic‐referred youths with anxiety or depressive disorders who endorsed burdensomeness. We used a quasi‐experimental interrupted time‐series design to evaluate changes in burdensomeness scores following the administration of the module. Results: The module was clinically feasible and well‐accepted. Youth burdensomeness scores increased in the first half of the CBT protocol and decreased immediately following the administration of the Give program module. Burdensomeness scores were significantly associated with suicide ideation. Conclusion: The current study is the first to develop and evaluate a module targeting burdensomeness in at‐risk youth in an outpatient setting, demonstrating that burdensomeness can be efficiently and effectively targeted within existing evidence‐based treatment protocols for internalizing disorders in youth. Connective tissues, such as tendons, ligaments, and capsules, play a large role in locomotion and joint stability and are often subjected to traumatic injuries and degeneration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if the mechanical and microstructural properties of connective tissues correlate with the age and sex of the human donor. Dissected samples were prepared for mechanical testing, consisting of 10 cycles of preconditioning, a stress‐relaxation ramp and hold, and a quasi‐static ramp to failure. During the testing protocol, the microstructural organization of tissues was analyzed using quantitative polarized light imaging. A linear mixed model was used to assess whether tissue type, donor age, or donor sex were significantly associated with mechanical and microstructural tissue properties. Tissue type had a significant effect on all parameters, while donor age and sex did not. Groupings by tissue type (i.e., tendon vs. ligament vs. capsule) were evident for microstructural data, with tendons having a tighter grouping and ligaments having a larger spread of values. The interaction of tissue type and age yielded a significant effect for linear modulus only (p = 0.007), with the palmaris tendon appearing to have the largest contribution to this effect. There were no significant interaction effects between sex and tissue type or donor age. Donor age appears to affect linear modulus in some, but not all, tissue types. Otherwise, age and sex do not have significant effects on the mechanical and microstructural properties of the range of connective tissues that were analyzed in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries are becoming increasingly common. The palmaris longus (PL) and gracilis (GR) tendons are the most common grafts used in UCL reconstructions. While clinical studies have demonstrated relatively similar outcomes for either graft, there is little quantitative data describing these grafts from a material perspective, specifically the mechanical and microstructural properties of these tissues and how they respond under dynamic loading. The purpose of this descriptive laboratory study was to quantify and compare the mechanical and microstructural properties of PL and GR tendons. A total of 13 PL and 11 GR cadaveric human tendons were obtained. Each specimen was divided into three subregions and subjected to preconditioning, ramp‐and‐hold stress‐relaxation and ramp‐to‐failure testing. Mechanical parameters were computed for each sample, and a polarized light imaging technique was used to simultaneously evaluate dynamic microstructural properties during testing. The PL had larger toe‐ and linear‐region modulus values than the GR. Within the GR, the distal subregion had stronger collagen alignment than the proximal subregion at the zero, transition and linear portions of the stress‐strain curve. The PL and GR, have similar mechanical properties and similar microstructural alignment under load. The PL graft has similar properties throughout its length whereas the GR properties exhibited slight differences in strength of alignment along its length. The PL and GR exhibit larger moduli values and more strongly/uniformly aligned collagenous microstructure when qualitatively compared to data previously published on the native UCL.
