As a large human gathering place, the city directly causes huge property losses and casualties due to the ground collapse accident every year. In order to explore the causes and damage characteristics of urban ground collapse, taking Xining City, Qinghai Province, as an example, this paper analyzes the accidental factors causing ground collapse through on-site geological exploration and then expounds the deformation characteristics of urban ground collapse by using the numerical simulation method of Fluent and PFC. Using the collapsible balance method, it is obtained that the insufficient thickness of the top plate of the Loess Soil Subgrade in the collapse pit area is the inevitable factor causing the final collapse. The results show the following: (1) The failure of water supply pipe is an accidental factor leading to the formation of underground cavity, and the ground collapse accident is hidden, sudden, and of high risk, and its deformation and failure development process is slow. (2) The critical thickness of the roof above the air raid shelter is about 22 m, and the actual thickness is about 11.6 m, which is prone to deformation and uneven settlement, which is also an inevitable factor causing ground collapse. (3) The numerical simulation study shows that the final formation deformation range is about 16 m. At this time, the height of the formed cavity is about 9 m. The plastic zone tends to develop around, and the maximum settlement position appears above the air raid shelter. (4) The collapse process includes four stages: water supply pipeline leakage, underground cavity formation, collapse critical state, and ground collapse. This research and analysis provides theoretical guidance and scientific basis for the investigation, measurement, detection, and monitoring of various underground pipe networks of urban roads. The complex pore structure of low-permeability sandstone reservoir makes it difficult to characterize the heterogeneity of pore throat. Taking the reservoir of Sanjianfang formation in QL oilfield as an example, the fractal dimension of different storage spaces is calculated by using fractal theory based on casting thin section, scanning electron microscope, and high-pressure mercury injection, and the correlation between porosity, permeability, and contribution of different storage space permeabilities is analyzed. The results show that the reservoir of Sanjianfang formation in QL oilfield mainly develops small pores, fine pores, and micropores, and the fractal dimension of micropore structure is between 2.6044 and 2.9982, with an average value of 2.8316. The more complex the pore structure is, the stronger the microheterogeneity is. The higher the fractal dimension, the more complex the pore structure and the smaller the porosity and permeability. The fractal dimensions of small pores, fine pores, and micropores increase successively with the decrease in pore radius, and the microstructure heterogeneity of large pores is weaker than that of small pores. Given the insufficient understanding of the characteristics and controlling factors of the low-permeability sandstone reservoir in the Heshui area, the Ordos Basin, the present study examined the microscale mineral and pore structure of Chang 2 reservoir. It analyzed its major controlling factors using a series of methods, including imaging and indirect methods. The results show that the rocks of Chang 2 reservoir in the study area are dominated by lithic arkose and feldspathic detritus quartz sandstone. The reservoir space develops intragranular pores, feldspar dissolved pores, lithic dissolved pores, and intercrystallite pores. Microcracks can occasionally be found. The average porosity is 10.5%, and the average permeability is 2.2 mD, featuring a low-porosity-ultralow-permeability reservoir. During the reservoir development, traps formed by small-scale nose-shaped uplifts resulting from the tectonic effects provide opportunities for good reservoir space. Sedimentation and diagenetic processes control the degree of development and direction of the evolution of reservoir porosity to a certain degree. Multisegment capillary pressure curve and long missing zone were corresponding to relatively good pore-throat structures. The character of residual oil formed during water flooding, one important technique to enhance oil recovery, is helpful to further study permeability and recovery in tight sandstone oil reservoirs. In this paper, we take a tight sandstone reservoir in Ordos Basin as the research object and use in situ displacement X-CT scanning technology to analyze the dynamic characteristics of oil during water flooding. Firstly, core pore radius and oil storage space radius were measured from digital cores which are acquired in different water flooding stages by X-CT scanning technology. Secondly, analytical and evaluation methods were established to describe fluid distribution in the pore space of the core in different water flooding stages based on curve similarity. Finally, by numerical results, we analyzed the oil distribution features in the process of water flooding for core samples. In this paper, the oil distribution characteristics during water flooding are revealed based on digital core analysis. Also, a quantitative evaluation method is given to provide theoretical guidance. In this study, to investigate the mechanical properties and microscopic geological features, a series of uniaxial compression, petrophysical properties, X-ray diffraction, elements, and conductivity tests were conducted. The results indicate that quartz and plagioclase are essential minerals determining Upper Triassic sandstone compositions, while quartz plays a dominant role in the Lower Permian sandstones. Due to microcracks, the relationships between porosity and permeability of Upper Triassic sandstones are better than those of Lower Permian sandstones. Observations have shown that silicon and aluminum are the main elements of those rocks. The rocks which have large porosity and permeability have a strong capacity of anticompression resistance. There are good consistencies between the mechanical behavior and the high proportion of rigid minerals. Similarly, the rocks which have abundant silicon and aluminum could better support the structural integrity of rocks. High pore structure heterogeneity and abundant clay minerals have positive influence on the mechanical resistance. Shales have distinct plastic deformation features when compared with the sandstones. This paper examines the damage caused by slickwater fracturing fluid to the microscopic pore structure of tight sandstone in the Chang 7 member in the Ordos Basin. A submicron CT in situ displacement system was used to analyze and graphically represent changes in pores in core samples following fracturing fluid damage. The results show the following: (1) the damage caused by slickwater fracturing fluid to tight sandstone fractures mainly occurs in the early stage of fluid incursion. The damage is characterized by a decrease in the effective pore volume, increase in the number of pores, and insignificant subsequent damage. The main causes of pore damage by slickwater fracturing fluid are retention of slickwater in the liquid phase and hydration swelling of clay minerals in the pores. (2) After the high pressure intrusion of slickwater fluid, the pore size of large-size intergranular pores increases, and there is no obvious damage after water flooding. However, fractures and small dissolution pores in the cores are the main areas of fluid retention after fracturing fluid invasion due to their small flowing radius and complex structure. To analyze the impact of the factors on physical properties and the mechanism of tightness as well as favorable accumulation space of tight sandstone reservoir, comprehensive analysis is conducted using various kinds of experiments. The results show that the predominant rock type is medium-coarse grained lithic quartzarenite, and the main accumulating space is the dissolved secondary pores. Reservoir pore-throat structures can be divided into four categories. Based on morphologies and parameters which derived from capillary pressure curves, the physical properties rank in the following descending sequence: Type I > Type II > Type III > Type IV. The reservoir quality is influenced by both sedimentation and diagenesis synthetically. The underwater distributary channel is the dominant space for favorable reservoir. Compaction and cementation play dominant roles in the reduction of permeability. The loss of primary pores caused by both those diagenesis are 20.52% and 16.91%, respectively. Secondary pores formed by dissolution improve the reservoir quality by increase the porosity (2.68%). This suggests that weak diagenesis greatly contributes to the improvement of reservoir quality. Both the characteristics of pore structure and movable fluid are significant properties in controlling the flow regularity in pores in tight sandstones. However, the governing factors that affect the fluid flow features will still be a myth. In our research, the western area of the Sulige gas field was chosen as the research region, and various kinds of experiments were conducted. Three reservoir groups, including intergranular-dissolved pore type, dissolved-intercrystalline pore type, and pore plus microcracks type were identified on the basis of pore development features. The results suggest that the intergranular-dissolved pore type has a more prominent influence on the high movable fluid saturation and larger pores. Both large throat sizes and homogeneous pore-throat degree demonstrate high movable fluid saturation. The increment of the thickness of water-film resulted from hydrophilic enhancement, indicating that an increased hydrophilic will decrease the movable fluid saturation and block the throats. During reservoir evaluation, the microscopic pore structure of low-rank coal is mainly characterized in order to study the coalbed methane diffuse and migration mechanisms and control. The low-rank coals are very different in pore type and size, so it is necessary to use various techniques to describe their pore structure. For vitrain and durain of the Coal Member of the Yan'an Formation from Huanglong Coalfield, their chemical composition and microscopic pore structure characteristics were studied, and the factors of influencing the pore size distribution (PSD) were explored. Obviously, vitrain and durain are different in chemical composition. Vitrain has higher moisture content, volatile yield, and vitrinite group content than durain. Vitrain and durain mainly contain vitrinite and inertinite, respectively. The pore structure characteristics (e.g., pore types and PSD) of vitrain and durain were systematically by mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, and carbon dioxide (CO2) adsorption. The vitrain and durain samples with a micropore size of <2 nm were mainly tested on their specific surface area (SSA) and pore volume (PV). The results show that microporous vitrain has larger SSA and PV than microporous durain, while mesoporous and macroporous vitrain has smaller SSA and PV than mesoporous and macroporous durain. SSA is very positively correlated with PV. The ash content is negatively correlated with SSA and PV. The ash content influences microporous vitrain more greatly than microporous durain, but mesoporous and macroporous durain more greatly than mesoporous and macroporous vitrain. SSA is positively correlated with the vitrinite content of durain and negatively correlated with the inertinite and exinite contents of durain. However, SSA is negatively correlated with the vitrinite and exinite contents of vitrain and positively correlated with the inertinite content of vitrain. Vitrain has higher methane adsorption capacity, desorption rate, and recovery ratio than durain. There are parameters that are obviously affected by the micropore characteristics. Viscosity is an important index to evaluate gas flowability. In this paper, a double-porosity model considering the effect of pressure on gas viscosity was established to study shale gas percolation through reservoir pressure, gas velocity, and bottom hole flowing pressure. The experimental results show that when pressure affects gas viscosity, shale gas viscosity decreases, which increases the percolation velocity and pressure drop velocity of the free state shale gas in matrix and fracture systems. And it is conducive to the desorption of adsorbed shale gas and effectively supplemented the bottom hole flowing pressure with the pressure wave propagation range and velocity increasing, so that the rate of pressure drop at the bottom of the well slows down, which makes the time that bottom hole flowing pressure reaches stability shortened. Porous SiOx anodes for Li‐ion batteries with a high volumetric energy density are desired. Herein, carbon‐coated SiOx–SnO2 hollow spheres are prepared by facile one‐pot high‐temperature annealing without using any template. During the process, SiOx is obtained through Sn reduction with the assistance of C. In the composite, the SiOx hollow spheres have a thin wall, the small SnO2 particles are uniformly imbedded in the sphere wall, and the SiOx–SnO2 hollow spheres are coated by cross‐linked carbon. As an anode, the composite has a large volumetric capacity (1339 mAh cm−3 at 0.1 A g−1), a high gravimetric capacity (1030 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1), and a good cyclic stability (after 100 cycles, 90% capacity is retained compared with that of the second cycle at 0.5 A g−1). The high capacity and good cycle stability result from the superior structure of the composite. Furthermore, the thin wall of the sphere can timely release a large expanded volume during lithiation, and the conformal carbon also provides a framework to maintain the structural integrity and facilitate the formation of a stable solid–electrolyte interface. The pore-throat structures play a dominant role in the evaluation of properties of tight sandstone, but it remains difficult to determine the related parameters and understand their impact on reservoir quality. Hence, toward this end, we analyze the experimental data that are indicative of the pore-throat system, then we investigate the effect of fractal dimensions of pore-throat structures on petrologic and physical properties, and finally, the optical observations, fractal theory, and prediction model were integrated to explore the qualities of various reservoir types in tight sandstones. The results show that the fractal dimensions of the mercury intrusion curve correspond to three pore-throat types and those of the mercury extrusion curve could correspond to two pore-throat types. Five types of reservoirs were identified, the best reservoir type has a high percentage of interparticle and dissolution pores but a low proportion of clay-related pores, and the differences in pore-throat connectivity of various types affect storage capacity significantly. The storage ability prediction models of various reservoir types are raised by integrated experimental data. Determining the microscopic pore structures of tight sandstones is becoming one of the most challenging efforts, and the strong heterogeneity makes the accurate assessment still a problem. In this research, we report a new criterion for pore structure typing based on the fractal geometry theory. The fractal dimension values were first accurately calculated through intrusion and nonintrusion methods. The results show that the pores in tight sandstones have multifractal distributions and different types of pore structure were divided based on various tests. The relationships between petrophysical properties and a series of multifractal parameters have been analyzed in detail. The fractal dimension values of type 1 sandstones derived from the throat curves in rate-controlled mercury intrusion methods can well characterize the porosity of the research area, while the others did not respond well. Finally, a multifractal criterion was proposed to analyze the petrological and pore structures by combined observations and experiments. The new criterion exhibits perfect performance in the prediction of the storage capacity. The multifractal model proposed in this research helps to assess the pore structures of tight sandstones and helps to characterize the reservoir quality in hydrocarbon exploration and development.
