The British Journal of Psychotherapy recently held its 40th birthday conference, which focused on the role of a psychotherapy journal in knowledge exchange and debate. Keynote speakers discussed topics such as the dangers of avoiding disruptive thought in psychoanalysis and the importance of ethics in psychotherapy. Former editors highlighted significant papers from their time, covering subjects like free will, postmodern therapy culture, and the impact of COVID-19 on clinical practice. The conference also included live clinical commentaries and discussions on the future of psychotherapy. Additionally, the text pays tribute to two individuals, Camila Batmanghelidjh and Derek Draper, who made significant contributions in their respective fields. Camila Batmanghelidjh founded Kids Company, an organization that supported traumatized children who had experienced abuse and bereavement. Derek Draper, a former political adviser, transitioned to the field of mental health and became a psychologist and psychotherapist. Both individuals will be remembered for their compassion and dedication to helping others. [Extracted from the article]
