We described a copper(I)‐catalyzed atom economic and selective hydroamination‐cyclization of alkynyl‐tethered quinazolinones to prepare a variety of indole‐fused pyrazino[1,2‐a]quinazolinones in good to excellent yields ranging from 39 %–99 % under mild reaction conditions. Control experiments revealed that coordination‐directed method of quinazolinone moiety with copper(I) was important for the selective hydroamination‐cyclization of alkynes at the N1‐atom instead of N3‐atom of quinazolinone. The reaction could be easily performed at gram scales and some prepared indole‐fused pyrazino[1,2‐a]quinazolinones with donating groups on the indole moiety showed a distinct fluorescence emission wavelength with blue shift under the acid conditions. A variety of pseudorutaecarpine derivatives were prepared in good to excellent yields through a gold(I)‐catalyzed selective cyclization and 1,2‐shift of N‐alkynyl quinazolinone‐tethered indoles. Mechanistic study revealed that spiroindolenines generated in situ by cyclization at the the indole C3 position underwent an alkenyl 1,2‐shift to generate pseudorutaecarpine. The reaction proceeds under mild reaction conditions, has a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and gram‐scalable application. Furthermore, biological evaluation showed that most of the pseudorutaecarpine scaffolds prepared exhibit anti‐inflammatory activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To review the literature of the benefits of enteral zinc supplementation in preterm population <37 weeks to improve growth and clinical outcome.Methods: PubMed database was searched for relevant articles. Studies not in English were excluded.Results: A total of 2678 results were identified. Duplicates were removed and titles were screened. References were reviewed to find other papers. Studies which include term infants were not examined although studies involving low birthweight infants with a defined percentage of preterm participants were examined. Thirty-four studies were subsequently reviewed, and nine studies were included as relevant to structured clinical question.Conclusion: There are various levels of evidence suggesting benefits of enteral zinc supplementation in preterm babies. While the available trial findings are encouraging, there is currently limited evidence to address the effects of zinc supplementation in preterm infants in the setting of their typically long stay in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A larger multi-centre trial is required to establish optimal timing of initiation, dosage, duration and its effect on growth, development and acute morbidity and mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season was extremely active and included, as of early November, six hurricanes that made landfall in the United States during the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. Such an event would necessitate a large‐scale evacuation, with implications for the trajectory of the pandemic. Here we model how a hypothetical hurricane evacuation from four counties in southeast Florida would affect COVID‐19 case levels. We find that hurricane evacuation increases the total number of COVID‐19 cases in both origin and destination locations; however, if transmission rates in destination counties can be kept from rising during evacuation, excess evacuation‐induced case numbers can be minimized by directing evacuees to counties experiencing lower COVID‐19 transmission rates. Ultimately, the number of excess COVID‐19 cases produced by the evacuation depends on the ability of destination counties to meet evacuee needs while minimizing virus exposure through public health directives. These results are relevant to disease transmission during evacuations stemming from additional climate‐related hazards such as wildfires and floods. Plain Language Summary: In recent years hurricane evacuations in the United States have displaced millions of people from their homes. Amid the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic, such an evacuation—and the associated increase in human‐to‐human interactions—poses an additional risk of disease transmission. In this study, we use an epidemiological model to simulate a hypothetical hurricane evacuation from southeast Florida. We find that evacuation is likely to increase the total number of COVID‐19 cases. However, directing evacuees to locations experiencing lower COVID‐19 transmission rates and simultaneously minimizing human contact during evacuation could reduce the excess number of infections. Our results indicate that evacuation‐induced COVID‐19 infections can be minimized by optimizing evacuation plans based on real‐time information about disease incidence and transmission. A novel strategy for asymmetric Shono‐type oxidative cross‐coupling has been developed by merging copper catalysis and electrochemistry, affording C1‐alkynylated tetrahydroisoquinolines with good to excellent enantioselectivity. The use of TEMPO as a co‐catalytic redox mediator is crucial not only for oxidizing a tetrahydroisoquinoline to an iminium ion species but also for decreasing the oxidation potential of the reaction. Abstract: Various ɑ‐imino ketones were prepared in good yields through a copper‐mediated difunctionalization of alkenylboronic acids with benzotriazolamine in air. Mechanistic studies showed that ɑ‐imino ketones formation occurred through an initial copper‐mediated coupling reaction to form an enamine, followed by homolysis of the C−Cu bond to produce an ɑ‐radical imine, and finally radical oxidation by air. Catalytic allylic γ‐substitution with Morita‐Baylis‐Hillman (MBH) adducts for creating a new family of unsymmetrical dicarbonyl compounds was presented in this work, in which a variety of allylated amide products were achieved in good yields and high regioselectivity with excellent linear‐to‐branched ratios. Especially, it was found that the Pd/HZNU‐Phos complex exhibited remarkably high activity (with a TON up to 16800) in this transformation between dicarbonyl amides and MBH adducts. In addition, the possibly multisite interaction between multifunctional Pd/HZNU‐Phos catalyst system and substrates might responsible for its exceptionally high efficiency in this reaction. It was found that catalytic allylation of various cyanoacetamides proceeded smoothly and efficiently in environmentally benign PEG-400 (PEG=poly(ethylene glycol)) in the presence of Pd(OAc)2 and novel triazine-derived multifunctional ligand L1, with which this reaction could afford the structurally diverse mono- and double allylated adducts in good to excellent yields as well as good chemo- and regioselectivity. In addition, this Pd/ L1/PEG-400 catalyst system could be recycled for five runs with good yield and high efficiency, which supported the notion that the triazine-containing Schiff base based phosphine ligand could be a multifunctional and reusable ligand encapsulated in PEG-400.
