Abstract

The article focuses on the impact of plasma-based argon+ (Ar+) beam treatment on poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) surfaces. The authors conducted the plasm-based Ar+ beam treatment in radio frequency 13.56 megahertz (MHz) low-pressure (200 milliTorr) glow discharge. SEM observation suggest a smooth surface for the PDMS samples that was treated at 100 and 1200 watts and the non-treated PDMS. It concludes that there was alteration of PDMS surface after being treated with plasma-based Ar+ beam.

Abstract

The article discusses a study which examined a multistep procedure for the biofunctionalization of (poly)dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) surfaces. Three polyethyle glycols (PEGs) were used as spacers. To analyze the biological response of the PDMS surfaces, this study used human fibroblast cells as a model. Results of the study showed that biofunctionalization can lead to the improvement of cellular interaction of PDMS.
