Background: Echocardiographic right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is a strong risk determinant for prognosis in patients with heart failure (HF). Although parameters of RV systolic function are widely used to define RV dysfunction, there is scarce data to suggest these parameters are best suited to predict HF‐related outcomes. Aims: We aimed to understand which morphologic or functional parameters are most closely associated with short‐term mortality and HF‐related hospitalization in patients with HF. Methods: A total of 191 patients from eight study centers were included to this study. A detailed echocardiographic examination was done at enrollment, and patients were followed up for 6 months via direct interviews or phone calls. Results: All right‐sided echocardiographic parameters other than tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion were associated with outcomes. In a proportional hazards model that included right‐heart parameters, RV longitudinal diameter (HR: 1.07, 95%CI: 1.04–1.10, p < 0.001), wall thickness (HR: 1.3, 95%CI: 1.13–1.50, p < 0.001), and tricuspid annular systolic velocity (HR: 0.90, 95%CI: 0.82–0.96, p = 0.02) were found as the independent predictors. However, only RV longitudinal dimension (HR: 1.04, 95%CI: 1.01–1.08, p = 0.01) and RV wall thickness (HR: 1.32, 95%CI: 1.10–1.60, p = 0.004) were associated with short‐term outcomes after adjusting for other clinical and left‐sided echocardiographic variables. On a Bayesian logistic regression model that included right‐sided echocardiography variables, there was strong evidence for including either RV longitudinal diameter (BF10: 190.4) or wall thickness (BF10: 30.7) to the final model. Background: Atherosclerosis is a process that causes coronary artery disease and is associated with the inflammatory response. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association of Pan‐Immune‐Inflammation Value (PIV) with in‐hospital and long‐term mortality in STEMI patients. Methods: A total of 658 patients who were admitted to the emergency department of two tertiary centers with the diagnosis of STEMI and underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) between 2018 and 2022 were retrospectively enrolled. PIV and other inflammation parameters were compared for the study population. The primary outcome was one‐year all‐cause of mortality. Results: The mean age was 58.7 ± 17.1 years and 507 (76.9%) were male. The mean duration of the follow‐up was 18.8 ± 8.5 months (median 18.9 months). PIV was superior to the neutrophil‐lymphocyte ratio, platelet‐lymphocyte ratio, and systemic immune‐inflammation index for the prediction of primary and secondary outcomes in STEMI. Conclusion: Our study reveals that PIV is a better predictor of mortality in STEMI patients. Prospective studies are needed to validate this biomarker. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: To compare major cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) rates between patients in the pre‐COVID‐19 era and COVID‐19 era, and to assess the impact of the presence of COVID‐19 (+) on long‐term MACCE in ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in Turkey. Methods: Using the TURSER study (TURKISH ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction registry) data, the current study included 1748 STEMI patients from 15 centres in Turkey. Patients were stratified into COVID‐19 era (March 11st–May 15st, 2020; n = 723) or pre‐COVID‐19 era (March 11st–May 15st, 2019; n = 1025) cohorts. Long‐term MACCE rates were compared between groups. In addition, the effect of COVID‐19 positivity on long‐term outcomes was evaluated. The primary outcome was the occurrence of MACCE at long‐term follow‐up, and the secondary outcome was hospitalization with heart failure. Results: The MACCE and hospitalization with heart failure rates between pre‐COVID‐19 era and COVID‐19 era were 23% versus 22% (p =.841), and 12% versus 8% (p =.002), respectively. In the COVID‐19 era, the rates of MACCE and hospitalization with heart failure COVID‐19‐positive versus COVID‐19‐negative patients were 40% versus 20%, (p <.001), and 43% versus 11% (p <.001), respectively. Conclusion: There was no difference between the pre‐COVID‐19 era and the COVID‐19 era in terms of MACCE in STEMI patients in Turkey. In the COVID‐19 era, STEMI patients positive for COVID‐19 had a higher rate of MACCE and heart failure hospitalization at the long‐term follow‐up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents a study regarding the membrane bioreactor treatment of segregated household wastewater for reuse. The study aims to evaluate the stability and performance of membrane bioreactor technology for grey and black water treatment. Two membrane bioreactors were installed on a site situated in the Training and Demonstration Center of TUBITAK Marmara Research Center. The study involves wastewater start-up, characterization, operation of the membrane bioreactors, and evaluation of the effluent quality according to the current water reuse standards.
