Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a type of tumour found in the cavity that is characterized by differentiation and metastasis to the lymph nodes. Although diagnosis strategy and clinical treatment have recently improved, the outcomes for OSCC patients remain unsatisfactory. This study verified the characteristics of circPUM1 in OSCC cells, subsequently generating dysregulated circPUM1 cell models, showing that circPUM1 promoted chemoresistance and natural killer (NK) cell toxicity. Furthermore, the transcription factor SP2 regulated the expression of circPUM1 in OSCC cells, circPUM1 acted as a molecular sponge for miR‐770‐5p. Moreover, Nucleosome Assembly Protein 1 Like 1 (NAP1L1) is a downstream target for miR‐770‐5p and essential for circPUM1‐mediated cisplatin resistance and NK cell cytotoxicity in OSCC cells. The network composed of SP2, circPUM1, miR‐770‐5p and NAP1L1 in OSCC appears to be a promising avenue for the development of novel targets for diagnosing or treating OSCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Chlorogenic acid (CGA) was modified using acyl chlorides with different levels of unsaturation (C18:0–C18:3) to enhance the lipophilicity and promote its application. The antioxidant activity of CGA derivatives in food and biological models was evaluated. All CGA derivatives had significantly greater antioxidative activity than CGA in fish oil and β‐carotene/linoleic acid emulsions (P < 0.05), but there was no linear relationship between antioxidative activity and unsaturation. The effectiveness of CGA‐C18:0 was significantly greater than that of CGA in scavenging H2O2 and reducing copper‐induced human low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the H2O2 scavenging activity, inhibitions of copper‐induced human LDL oxidation and hydroxyl or peroxyl radical‐induced DNA oxidation were all linearly related to the unsaturation of the alkyl chains, mainly with the free radical chain reactions of the unsaturated bonds. BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dietary lycopene powder on meat quality and the oxidative stability of lipid and protein of longissimus thoracis (LT) in lamb. A total of 30 male lambs were randomly sampled from three feeding groups (control without lycopene supplement, 200 and 400 mg kg−1 lycopene powder respectively) after 3 months of feeding. The muscle samples were taken after slaughter and stored at 4 °C for 7 days. RESULTS: Compared with the control, the results showed that supplementation with lycopene powder gave a higher a* value (redness), and increased the levels of vitamin A and vitamin E. Increasing dietary lycopene powder resulted in a lower degree of lipid and protein oxidation, as evidenced by lower contents of thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substance and carbonyl compounds, and higher levels of sulfhydryl groups. CONCLUSION: Dietary lycopene powder is an effective antioxidant that blocks the oxidation of meat proteins and lipids, and has a positive effect on increasing lamb meat quality during storage. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
