To develop novel gene delivery carriers, aminated polysorbate 80 (P80-NH(2)) was synthesized with strong positively charged properties through the introduction of three amine groups. The resulting P80-NH(2) and DNA polyplex exhibited superb condensation abilities due to the high densities of positively charged amines groups. Size and surface charge of polyplex were shown to be well suited for cellular internalization. In addition, the P80-NH(2) /DNA polyplex demonstrated acceptable transfection efficiency in HeLa cells and was nontoxic relative to the conventional 25-kDa polyethyleneimine system., (Copyright © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).)

In the title compound, [Cu(2)(C(7)H(3)ClNO(4))(4)](n), the coordination geometry around each Cu(II) ion is distorted square-pyramidal. The CuO(5) coordination is formed by five O atoms from the carboxyl-ate groups of five 5-chloro-2-nitro-benzoate ligands. This coordination leads to the formation of centrosymmetric binuclear units which are edge-shared, forming a linear chain along the a axis, with the Cu(II) ions alternately separated by 2.5891 (4) and 3.1763 (4) Å. The chains are inter-connected into a three-dimensional network by C-H⋯O inter-actions.

In the title binuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu(2)(C(7)H(3)ClNO(4))(4)(H(2)O)(2)], each of the two independent Cu(II) center is five-coordinated by four O atoms of the carboxyl-ate groups in the basal plane and one O atom of a water mol-ecule in the apical position, in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The Cu-Cu distance is 2.6458 (4) Å. In the crystal structure, the dinuclear units are linked into a three-dimensional network by O-H⋯O, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. One of the Cl atoms is disordered over two positions with occupancies of 0.650 (2) and 0.350 (2).

A patient developed paralysis over the left upper limb 2 days after an otherwise uneventful supraclavicular brachial plexus block. Symptoms continued for 8 weeks after the block. The various possible causes for this complication are discussed. Although brachial plexus injury following the block is rare, some recommendations are made to reduce the incidence of this complication.
