Introduction: It is recommended to use two chronometric assays of different principles for the diagnosis of lupus anticoagulant (LA), consisting in diluted Russell Viper Venom Time (dRVVT) and activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT). Yet, there are only a few integrated aPTT assays; this study aims to evaluate one of them: Cephen LS/Cephen (Hyphen Biomed). Method: 249 samples of patients were included in this study. Normal reference ranges were determined with platelet‐poor plasma (PPP) from healthy blood donors. Performances were then evaluated by comparing Cephen LS/Cephen test results to the results of the laboratory's reference assay for the diagnosis of LA and to clinical data, both on non‐anticoagulated and anticoagulated patients' samples (Unfractioned heparin (UFH), Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH), Vitamin K Antagonists (VKA) and apixaban). Interference of UFH, LMWH and VKA were also evaluated thanks to spiking experiment of increasing heparin concentrations or factor deficiency. Results: Cephen LS/Cephen test had 48.6% sensitivity towards LA. Although UFH and VKA seemed to interfere with this assay and were likely to cause false negative, LMWH and apixaban did not. Finally, combination of Cephen LS/ Cephen with dRVVT had 89.0% sensitivity. Conclusion: Cephen LS/Cephen seems relevant for LA diagnosis, in combination with dRVVT, and might be used in patients undergoing LMWH or apixaban therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUMMARY: Hydathodes are small organs found on the leaf margins of vascular plants which release excess xylem sap through a process called guttation. While previous studies have hinted at additional functions of hydathode in metabolite transport or auxin metabolism, experimental support is limited. We conducted comprehensive transcriptomic, metabolomic and physiological analyses of mature Arabidopsis hydathodes. This study identified 1460 genes differentially expressed in hydathodes compared to leaf blades, indicating higher expression of most genes associated with auxin metabolism, metabolite transport, stress response, DNA, RNA or microRNA processes, plant cell wall dynamics and wax metabolism. Notably, we observed differential expression of genes encoding auxin‐related transcriptional regulators, biosynthetic processes, transport and vacuolar storage supported by the measured accumulation of free and conjugated auxin in hydathodes. We also showed that 78% of the total content of 52 xylem metabolites was removed from guttation fluid at hydathodes. We demonstrate that NRT2.1 and PHT1;4 transporters capture nitrate and inorganic phosphate in guttation fluid, respectively, thus limiting the loss of nutrients during this process. Our transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses unveil an organ with its specific physiological and biological identity. Significance Statement: Hydathodes are vascular discontinuities at leaf margins of all vascular plants which allow the release of excess water during a process known as guttation. The Poroshiri ophiolite (Hidaka metamorphic belt, Japan) occurs within a crustal‐scale network of high‐temperature, dextral shear zones that accommodated hundreds of kilometres of displacement due to the opening of the Japan Sea in the Neogene. The opholitic rocks comprise ultramafic, mafic and sedimentary protoliths that have been variably hydrated and metamorphosed. This work investigates the mechanisms and timing of fluid influx relative to viscous deformation in metagabbros and amphibolites deformed during exhumation from granulite‐ to amphibolite‐facies conditions. We consider a range of microstructures, from low strain domains and 1–2 mm thick shear bands to mylonites with a thickness of a few meters. Low strain domains of metagabbros exhibit corona textures with symplectites consisting of pargasitic amphibole (Ed0.7) ‐ anorthitic plagioclase (An80–92) ± orthopyroxene ± clinopyroxene forming around olivine and igneous pyroxene and with similar plagioclase–amphibole‐orthopyroxene ± clinopyroxene granoblastic aggregates in micrometric‐thick fractures. These textures result from hydration under low fluid‐rock ratio, with elevated H2O content only occurring locally (H2O > 1–1.2 wt%). Igneous mineral replacement leads to grain size reduction from 1 mm to ~10 μm. Amphibole exhibits a strong core‐rim zonation primarily controlled by the high diffusivity of Fe, Mg and OH and the low diffusivity of Al. Mineral compositional equilibrium is achieved at the scale of 100–200 μm. In mm‐thick localized shear bands and in metric‐scale mylonitic amphibolites, the heterogeneous mineral composition of amphibole (Ed0.2–0.5) and plagioclase (An40−An80) indicates only partial re‐equilibration (at the scale of 200–500 μm) despite higher fluid‐rock ratios and more pervasive fluid percolation than in metagabbros. Plagioclase–amphibole thermometry and equilibrium phase diagrams indicate that the initial fluid infiltration and corona formation occurred at 800–850°C by fracturing and percolation along grain boundaries. This was followed by the main fluid percolation and mylonitization event, which occurred during exhumation and cooling at conditions of 720–580°C, ~4 kbar. Continuous hydration during retrogression was achieved by the influx of dominantly seawater‐derived fluid, as attested by the high chlorine (Cl) contents (>300–400 ppm) of amphiboles in fractures. The heterogeneous distribution of fractures controls the distribution of fluid from the earliest stages of hydration, creating positive feedback where the growth of hydrous minerals as amphibole (up to +300 vol% of amphibole in high strain areas relative to the low‐strain ones) and the formation of fine‐grained mixed domains that led to further localization of viscous strain and mass transfer (variations of ± 30–40% in major elements). The Poroshiri ophiolite therefore represents a good fossil example of a former transpressional plate boundary where coupled metamorphic and deformation processes were triggered by seawater‐derived fluid that percolated to depths of ~15 km. This systematic review summarizes the available evidence on respiratory muscle endurance training involving voluntary isocapnic hyperpnoea among patients with chronic diseases. It includes both randomized and non‐randomized controlled trials implementing this exercise training modality performed either alone or in combination with other interventions. It was conducted using the following databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Embase, CINAHL, CENTRAL, Cochrane and ReeDOC. It was drafted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. The final analysis was conducted on 12 studies (n = 257). There was heterogeneity in participants, training modalities and comparators used. The underpowered level of evidence is attributable to the lack of robustness of the original studies, including a lack of description of the intervention, lack of blinding, and missing data. Respiratory muscle endurance training is an exercise training modality that is both safe and feasible, even in the setting of the patient's home. It increases respiratory endurance time. However, its effect on peak oxygen consumption at exercise, maximal work rate, 6‐min walking distance, quality of life, dyspnoea and fatigue remains to be confirmed. In conclusion, this systematic review shows that respiratory muscle endurance training increases respiratory endurance among patients with chronic diseases. The populations that benefit the most and the mechanisms involved remain to be investigated. Further high‐quality studies are needed to understand its role, whether it is performed alone or as an add‐on modality to usual pulmonary rehabilitation programmes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To evaluate the dimensional stability over time of additively manufactured surgical templates, fabricated by different resins, and stored by different methods. Materials and Methods: Using a 3D printer with DLS technology and two different resins (Surgical Guide (SG)‐WhipMix and Key Guide (KG)‐KeystoneIndustries), 96 surgical guides were additively manufactured. The guides were stored in three different environments: directly exposed to sunlight (S1), in normal interior room conditions (S2), and in darkness (S3). The guides were digitally scanned immediately after fabrication and post‐processing, and after 1, 3, and 6 months of storage. For each group, the mean deviation of the root mean square (RMS) between guide's intaglio surface, as well as the axial deviation between sleeves' housings were calculated. Results: The mean axial variations of angular axis deviation of sleeves' housings ranged between 0.09° and 3.99°. The mean deviation of the RMS discrepancy in guide's intaglio ranged from 0.1 to 0.18 mm. Variations were significant (p < 0.001) only for the S1 group and only for SG material. After 3 months, an additional storage time of 3 months did not have any further effect on dimensional stability. Conclusions: Within the limitations of the present study, storage time of a surgical guide for up to 3 months after manufacturing, as well as printing material can significantly affect surgical guide's dimensional stability, when they are exposed to direct or indirect sunlight conditions. The dinitrogen (N2) chemistry of lanthanides remains less developed compared to the d‐block metals and lanthanide‐promoted N2 functionalization chemistry in well‐defined lanthanide complexes remains elusive. Here we report the synthesis and characterization (SQUID, EPR, DFT, X‐Ray) of the siloxide supported heterobimetallic (Tm/K) complexes [{KTm(OSi(OtBu)3)3}2(μ‐η2 : η2‐N2)] (1) and [K3{Tm(OSi(OtBu)3)3}2(μ‐η2 : η2‐N2)] (2). Complex 2 provides a rare example of a metal complex of the triply reduced N23− radical. The structure of 2 differs from the few previously reported N23− complexes as it presents two Tm and three K cations binding the N23− radical, facilitating N2 functionalization. Notably, the K3Tm2‐bound N23− moiety reacts with excess H+ to form NH4Cl in 18 % yield, and with MeOTf at room temperature to yield the dimethyl hydrazido complex [K2{Tm(OSi(OtBu)3)3}2(μ‐(CH3)NN(CH3))] (3). A simple method was developed to produce polymeric nanoribbons and other nanostructures in water. This approach incorporates a perylene diimide (PDI) functionalized by triethylene glycol (TEG) as a hydrophobic supramolecular structure directing unit (SSDU) into the core of hydrophilic poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMAc) chains using RAFT polymerization. All PDI‐functional polymers dissolved spontaneously in water, forming different nanostructures depending on the degree of polymerization (DPn): nanoribbons and nanocylinders for DPn=14 and 22, and spheres for DPn>50 as determined by cryo‐TEM and SAXS analyses. UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy was used to monitor the evolution of the PDI absorption signal upon dissolution. In solid form, all polymers show a H‐aggregate absorption signature, but upon dissolution in water, the shortest DPn forming nanoribbons evolved to show HJ‐aggregate absorption signals. Over time, the J‐aggregate band increased in intensity, while cryo‐TEM monitoring evidenced an increase in the nanoribbon's width. Heating the nanoribbons above 60 °C, triggered a morphological transition from nanoribbons to nanocylinders, due to the disappearance of J‐aggregates, while H‐aggregates were maintained. The study shows that the TEG‐PDI is a powerful SSDU to promote 2D or 1D self‐assembly of polymers depending on DPn through simple dissolution in water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Nivolumab obtained approval in advanced melanoma (AM) with weight‐adjusted dose (WAD) administration (3 mg/kg/2 weeks). In 2018, the dosage regimen was changed to flat dose (FD) administration (240 mg/2 weeks or 480 mg/4 weeks) based on a modeling study, without clinical data. Methods: AM patients have been prospectively included in the French national multicenter MelBase database since 2013. First‐line patients treated with nivolumab monotherapy were included in the WAD or FD groups of this study. The primary end point was the incidence of grade ≥3 immune‐related adverse events (irAEs). Secondary end points were incidence of any grade irAEs, and overall survival (OS) and progression‐free survival (PFS). Inverse probability of treatment weighting was used to balance groups on their baseline characteristics. Results: Between 2015 and 2022, 348 patients were included: 160 in the WAD and 188 in the FD groups. In the FD group, 45% and 27% of patients weighed <75 kg and >85 kg, respectively. Grade ≥3 and any grade irAEs rates were 13.1% versus 11.7% (p =.8) and 63.1% versus 67.0% (p =.5) in the WAD and FD groups, respectively. After weighting, median PFS was 3.1 and 3.7 months (hazard ratio [HR], 0.84; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.65–1.07), and median OS was 24.8 and 37.0 months (HR, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.54–1.01) in the WAD and FD groups, respectively. Conclusions: There was no difference in the incidence of severe irAEs and in median PFS between AM patients treated by WAD or FD nivolumab. The median OS between patient groups did not reach statistical significance. In the advanced melanoma cohort of patients treated with first‐line nivolumab monotherapy, 45% of those receiving a flat dose administration received doses exceeding 3 mg/kg every 2 weeks. POEGMA‐based block copolymers self‐assemblies with surface‐functionalized carboxylic acid or propargyl groups were synthesized by successive reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA) and RAFT‐mediated polymerization‐induced self‐assembly (RAFT‐PISA) in dispersion of 2‐(methacryloyloxy)‐N,N,N‐trimethylethanaminium hexafluorophosphate (METAPF6). The temperature responsive properties of the carboxylic acid–terminated POEGMA (POEGMACDP) and propargyl‐terminated POEGMA (POEGMACDPy) were studied in aqueous buffer solutions at pH 2.3 and 9.2. At pH 2.3, POEGMACDP aqueous solution exhibits a cloud point while no cloud point was observed at pH 9.2. POEGMACDPy shows a cloud point at both pH levels. The RAFT‐PISA in dispersion of METAPF6 at 75°C in either pH 2.3 or 9.2 buffer solution using POEGMACDP or POEGMACDPy as macro‐RAFT agents led to block copolymers, as confirmed by DOSY analysis. For POEGMACDP (DPn = 9), DPn,NMR,PMETAPF6 was 47 at pH 2.3 and 27 at pH 9.2 and for POEGMACDPy (DPn = 10), DPn,NMR,PMETAPF6 was 36 at pH 2.3 and 22 at pH 9.2, as shown by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Both in situ POEGMACDP‐b‐PMETAPF6 and POEGMACDPy‐b‐PMETAPF6 self‐assemblies in aqueous solutions exhibited an increase in Dh and PDI when the pH increased from 2.3 to 9.2, as measured by DLS at 20°C. Medicago truncatula Nod Factor Perception (MtNFP) plays a role in both the Rhizobium‐Legume (RL) symbiosis and plant immunity, and evidence suggests that the immune‐related function of MtNFP is relevant for symbiosis. To better understand these roles of MtNFP, we sought to identify new interacting partners. We screened a yeast‐2‐hybrid cDNA library from Aphanomyces euteiches infected and noninfected M. truncatula roots. The M. truncatula leucine‐rich repeat (LRR) receptor‐like kinase SUPPRESSOR OF BIR1 (MtSOBIR1) was identified as an interactor of MtNFP and was characterised for kinase activity, and potential roles in symbiosis and plant immunity. We showed that the kinase domain of MtSOBIR1 is active and can transphosphorylate the pseudo‐kinase domain of MtNFP. MtSOBIR1 could functionally complement Atsobir1 and Nbsobir1/sobir1‐like mutants for defence activation, and Mtsobir1 mutants were defective in immune responses to A. euteiches. For symbiosis, we showed that Mtsobir1 mutant plants had both a strong, early infection defect and defects in the defence suppression in nodules, and both effects were plant genotype‐ and rhizobial strain‐specific. This work highlights a conserved function for MtSOBIR1 in activating defence responses to pathogen attack, and potentially novel symbiotic functions of downregulating defence in association with the control of symbiotic specificity. Optimizations are expected in the development of immunotherapy for the treatment of Triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC). We studied the expression of galectin‐9 (Gal‐9) after irradiation and assessed the differential impacts of its targeting with or without radiotherapy. Tumor resections from TNBC patients who received neoadjuvant radiotherapy revealed higher levels of Gal‐9 in comparison to their baseline level, only in non‐responder patients. Gal‐9 expression was also found to be increased in TNBC tumor biopsies and cell lines after irradiation. We investigated the therapeutic advantage of targeting Gal‐9 after radiotherapy in mice. Irradiated 4T1 cells or control non‐irradiated 4T1 cells were injected into BALB/c mice. Anti‐Gal‐9 antibody treatment decreased tumor progression only in mice injected with irradiated 4T1 cells. This proof‐of‐concept study demonstrates that Gal‐9 could be considered as a dynamic biomarker after radiotherapy for TNBC and suggests that Gal‐9 induced‐overexpression could represent an opportunity to develop new therapeutic strategies for TNBC patients. We studied three brothers and a maternal half‐brother featuring global developmental delay, mild to moderate intellectual disability, epilepsy, microcephaly, and strabismus. All had bilateral perisylvian and perirolandic polymicrogyria, while some also had malformations of the hippocampus (malrotation and dysplasia), cerebellum (heterotopias and asymmetric aplasia), corpus callosum dysgenesis, and brainstem asymmetric dysplasia. Exome sequencing showed that all four patients had a novel variant (c.1597C>T:p.Leu533Phe) on the KIF4A gene on chromosome X. Background: Detailed comparative assessment of procedure‐related factors associated with faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) efficacy in Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is limited. Aims: We took advantage of the differences in procedures at the various French FMT centres to determine clinical and procedure‐related factors associated with FMT success in CDI. Methods: We performed a nationwide retrospective multicentre cohort study. All FMTs performed within The French Faecal Transplant Group for CDI from 2018 to 2022 were included. Clinical data were collected retrospectively from recipient medical files, characteristics of stool transplant preparations were prospectively collected by each Pharmacy involved. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using Fisher's test and multiple logistic regression. Results: Six hundred fifty‐eight FMTs were performed for 617 patients in 17 centres. The overall efficacy of FMT was 84.3% (520/617), with 0.5% of severe adverse events possibly related to FMT (3/658). Forty‐seven patients were treated at the first recurrence of CDI with a similar success rate (85.1%). Severe chronic kidney disease (CKD; OR: 2.18, 95%CI [1.20–3.88]), non‐severe refractory CDI (OR: 15.35, [1.94–318.2]), the use of ≥ 80% glycerol (OR: 2.52, [1.11–5.67]), insufficient bowel cleansing (OR: 5.47, [1.57–20.03]) and partial FMT retention (OR: 9.97, [2.62–48.49]) were associated with CDI recurrence within 8 weeks. Conclusions: Conditions of transplant manufacturing, bowel cleansing, and a route of delivery tailored to the patient's characteristics are key factors in optimising FMT efficacy. FMT at first recurrence showed high success in real‐life practice, whereas it had lower efficacy in severe CDI and non‐severe refractory CDI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) harbor mutations in the APC gene and will develop adenoma and early colorectal cancer. There is no validated treatment, and animal models are not sufficient to study FAP. Our aim was to investigate the early events associated with FAP using the intestinal organoid model in a single‐center study using biopsies from nonadenomatous and adenomatous colonic mucosa of FAP patients and from healthy controls (HCs). We analyzed intestinal stem cell (ISC) activity and regulation through organoid development and expression of mRNA and proteins, as well as within colonic crypts. We used several compounds to regulate the signaling pathways controlling ISCs, such as WNT, EGFR, PI3K‐AKT, TGF‐β, yes‐associated protein (YAP), and protease‐activated receptors. In addition to their high proliferative capacity, nonadenomatous and adenomatous organoids were characterized by cysts and cysts with buds, respectively, suggesting abnormal maturation. Adenomatous organoids were enriched in the stem cell marker LGR5 and dependent on EGF and TGF‐β for their growth. Downstream of EGFR, AKT, β‐catenin, and YAP were found to be activated in the adenomatous organoids. While the p110β isoform of PI3K was predominant in adenomatous organoids and essential for their growth, p110α was associated with the immature state of nonadenomatous organoids. We conclude that organoids offer a relevant model for studying FAP, and this work highlights abnormal behaviors of immature cells in both nonadenomatous and adenomatous mucosa of FAP patients, which could be targeted therapeutically. © 2024 The Author(s). The viscosities of Ce‐free and Ce‐bearing (∼1.3 mol%, ∼6.5 wt.% Ce2O3) soda lime silicate (window glass) melts were measured with respect to oxidation state. Experiments were performed isothermally using a concentric‐cylinder viscometer on melts equilibrated with successively reducing CO–CO2 gas mixtures within a gas tight vertical tube furnace at 1 atm. Viscosity measurement and sampling were performed at the end of each melt reduction step. Further, viscosities in the glass transition temperature range were estimated using the shift factor method applied to glass transition temperature values determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements on quenched glasses. The Ce speciation at each stepwise melt reduction was probed using Ce L3‐edge X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy, while structural information upon Ce addition and reduction was provided by Raman spectroscopy. The viscosities of these materials remain constant at this level of Ce addition and do not vary significantly with redox state at high temperature. Conversely, viscosity values in the glass transition temperature range increase upon both Ce addition and reduction. Our analysis, based on the glass composition analyses obtained via electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), viscosity calculations, and observations of silicate structural changes, leads to the conclusion that the observed viscosity increase around the glass transition temperature is explained by the high ionic field strength of Ce ions as well as the polymerization behavior of the silicate matrix occurring during reduction of Ce. Because of its low concentration, resulting from its low solubility, Ce redox changes exert only minimal effects on the viscosity of this melt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To determine how corneoscleral geometry changes with axial length and to assess the usefulness of including the sagittal configuration of the anterior segment when predicting the axial length. Methods: An observational study was performed including 96 healthy subjects (96 eyes). Axial length was calculated from optical biometry (IOL Master 500). Corneal curvature and scleral sagittal height parameters at 13, 14 and 15 mm were obtained automatically using corneoscleral topography (eye surface profiler; ESP). In addition, corneal and scleral sagittal heights at numerous locations (21 radii: 0–10 mm from the corneal apex at 12 angles: 0–330°) were calculated using the raw height data extracted from the ESP. The relationships between axial length and the study parameters were analysed using Pearson correlation analysis. The equations for the prediction of axial length were obtained by fitting multiple linear regression models. Results: The temporal‐nasal scleral asymmetry at 13‐, 14‐ and 15‐mm chord lengths was significantly correlated with axial length (r2 ≤ 0.26; p < 0.001). Significant inverse correlations were found between the temporal scleral sagittal height and axial length (r2 ≤ 0.28; p ≤ 0.02). The nasal scleral sagittal height was not associated with axial length. Three significant multiple linear regression models were fitted based on spherical equivalent, corneal radius and scleral asymmetry at 13 (r2 = 0.79; p < 0.001), 14 (r2 = 0.80; p < 0.001) and 15 (r2 = 0.80; p < 0.001) mm chord lengths. Conclusions: Larger ocular globes show reduced temporal‐nasal scleral asymmetry, mainly due to the lower sagittal height of the temporal sclera. ABSTRACT Background Aims Methods Results Conclusions Conflicting results have been reported on the impact of tenofovir versus entecavir on liver‐related outcomes.To explore trends in clinical outcomes in chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV)–infected patients and compare the impact of tenofovir versus entecavir on the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver transplantation (LT) and mortality.We used the French National Health Insurance Databases (SNDS) to identify HBV‐infected patients. We quantified the excess clinical burden from 2012 to 2021 by comparing the HBV‐infected cohort with a general population cohort, using 1:1 exact matching on birth date, sex, social deprivation index and follow‐up start date. The risks of mortality, HCC and LT were compared between patients treated with tenofovir and entecavir using inverse probability weighting.A total of 101,740 patients were matched to the general population. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual decreases in excess mortality, incidence of HCC and LT were 3.7%, 8.0% and 11.9%, respectively (p for trend < 0.001). During the same period, the nucleos(t)ide analog (NUC) treatment coverage significantly increased, particularly after 2016 (p < 0.001). Among 14,054 treatment‐naïve patients starting tenofovir (n = 7426) or entecavir (n = 6628), we observed no difference in the composite outcome of mortality, LT or HCC (HR, 1.09; 95% CI, 0.95–1.24). Tenofovir was associated with an increased risk of HCC compared with entecavir (HR, 1.31; 95% CI, 1.07–1.62).Tenofovir was associated with a higher risk of HCC compared with entecavir, although no difference in the composite outcome of mortality or liver‐related events was observed between the two treatments. Viruses are abundant and ubiquitous in soil, but their importance in modulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in terrestrial ecosystems remains largely unknown. Here, various loads of viral communities are introduced into paddy soils with different fertilization histories via a reciprocal transplant approach to study the role of viruses in regulating greenhouse gas emissions and prokaryotic communities. The results showed that the addition of viruses has a strong impact on methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions and, to a minor extent, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, along with dissolved carbon and nitrogen pools, depending on soil fertilization history. The addition of a high viral load resulted in a decrease in microbial biomass carbon (MBC) by 31.4%, with changes in the relative abundance of 16.6% of dominant amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) in comparison to control treatments. More specifically, large effects of viral pressure are observed on some specific microbial communities with decreased relative abundance of prokaryotes that dissimilate sulfur compounds and increased relative abundance of Nanoarchaea. Structural equation modeling further highlighted the differential direct and indirect effects of viruses on CO2, N2O, and CH4 emissions. Total syntheses of the C‐glucosidic ellagitannins (−)‐punicacortein A, (−)‐epipunicacortein A and (+)‐castalin were accomplished for the first time, and those of the glucopyranosic ellagitannins (+)‐tellimagrandin I and (+)‐pedunculagin were revisited. The atroposelective construction of their characteristic hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP) and nonahydroxyterphenoyl (NHTP) units relied on the use of different cupric‐amine complexes under different reaction conditions to mediate the intramolecular dehydrogenative coupling of galloyl groups at different positions of glucose cores. In particular, the monodentate n‐butylamine and the bidentate (−)‐sparteine were found to be complementary in their capacity to promote the regio‐ and atroposelective coupling of galloyl groups on a 4C1‐glucopyranosic core into 2,3‐O‐(S)‐ and/or 4,6‐O‐(S)‐HHDP units. Furthermore, replacing (−)‐sparteine by its optical antipode not only counteracted the substrate‐controlled induction of atroposelectivity to forge a 4,6‐O‐(R)‐HHDP unit, but it also enabled a 4C1 to 1C4 ring flip of the glucopyranosic core and hence the formation of 2,4‐O‐(R)‐ and 3,6‐O‐(R)‐HHDP units, such as those featured in the glucopyranosic ellagitannins phyllanemblinin B and geraniin. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of the conventional system of [Ru(bpy)3]2+ luminophore and amine‐based coreactants is particularly inefficient on noble metal electrodes. This is due to the formation of a passivating oxide layer on the metal surface inhibiting the electro‐oxidation of amines like tri‐n‐propylamine (TPrA) coreactant. Herein, we demonstrated the enhancement of ECL emission on gold surface by hydroxyl radicals attack that are chemically generated with Cu‐Fenton reagent. These radicals selectively deactivate the gold active sites and knockout the metal surface asperities that counterintuitively led to an amplification of the ECL emission. Atomic force microscopy shows a massive smoothening of the surface. The electrochemical characterization proves that the involved ECL reaction mechanism switches from direct oxidation to catalytic route, where the kinetics of indirect TPrA oxidation is facilitated on deactivated gold surface. Besides, in situ smoothening of a rough electrode in presence of tandem [Ru(bpy)3]2+/TPrA enables Cu2+ sensing with good reliability and limit of detection. Such atomically smoothened and corrosion‐resistant gold surface readily tuned the ECL reactivity and opened new directions on influence of topography and reactivity on ECL mechanisms, thus will be extremely useful for the future development of ECL imaging strategies and highly sensitive ECL sensors. Nucleic acids, used as therapeutics to silence disease‐related genes, offer significant advantages over small molecule drugs: they provide high specificity, the ability to target “undruggable” molecules, and adaptability to a wide range of disease phenotypes. However, their instability in biological media, as well their rapid clearance from the organism limit their applicability, necessitating the use of nanocarriers to overcome these challenges. Among these strategies, spherical nucleic acids (SNA)—composed of a densely packed corona of oligonucleotides around a nanoparticle—have emerged as a powerful tool, in particular when self‐assembled from DNA amphiphiles. This non‐covalent strategy however has caveats, especially when it comes to stability in complex biological media, where these SNAs disassemble in contact to serum proteins. Here, we developed highly fluorinated DNA amphiphiles that readily self‐assemble into SNAs and have tunable stability profiles in biological media. They are made of branched fluorinated moieties with potentially improved biodegradability as compared to their linear counterparts. Depending on the number of fluorophilic interactions, the self‐assembled SNAs can have excellent serum stabilities—up to days—and readily deliver nucleic acid therapeutics for gene silencing applications. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is used in oncology for tumor diagnosis, commonly relying on fluorine‐18 (18F) emission detection. The conventional method of 18F incorporation on to probes by covalent bonding is harsh for sensitive biomolecules, which are nonetheless compounds of choice for the development of targeted probes. This study explores gallium–18F (Ga18F) coordination, a milder alternative method occurring in aqueous media at the final stage of radiosyntheses. Pyclen‐based chelating agents were proposed to capture (GaF) species at room temperature and pH≥5 making the radiofluorination process compatible with heat‐ and acid‐sensitive biomolecules. Highly promising results were obtained with the PC2A–based chelating agent LH2 derived from the new bifunctional PC2A–OAE–NCS compound. The solid‐state structure of GaF(L) was elucidated by X‐ray diffraction and revealed an unconventional heptacoordination of Ga(III). A high radiochemical conversion (RCC) of 86 % was achieved at room temperature, in water at pH 5 within 20 minutes. Stability studies showed the robustness of the GaF(L) complex in aqueous media for at least one day and at least one hour for the radiolabeled analog Ga18F(L). These findings demonstrated that PC2A‐based compounds are chelating agents of choice for (Ga18F) species, suggesting a real technological breakthrough for PET imaging and precision medicine. ABSTRACT A large part of the Human chemical exposome is now well characterized, and its health effects has been widely documented, although precise causal links remain difficult to establish. In parallel, genetic factors only were shown to contribute less than 30% to various pathologies. Therefore, environmental factors may represent the predominant cause of chronic diseases. Mass Spectrometry has been established for many years as a main “gold standard” in this field due to its performances both in sensitivity and selectivity. However, some unstable or highly reactive compounds may escape their detection in the biological samples because of their short half‐life although some of their stable metabolites, if any, can be used for the exposure assessment. These electrophilic molecules are known to bind covalently to nucleophilic molecules in the body to form what are commonly called adducts. The study of adducts formed with DNA, proteins or with glutathione, nowadays called adductomics, can provide additional toxicologically relevant information in biomonitoring studies. This review describes this particular part of the reactive exposome and the related mass spectrometric methods developed therein. Three dedicated parts of this review are devoted to the contribution of mass spectrometry respectively to the assessment of DNA modifications, protein modifications, and reaction with glutathione. The low sensitivity of liquid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can be overcome by hyperpolarizing nuclear spins by dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP). It consists of transferring the near‐unity polarization of unpaired electron spins of stable radicals to the nuclear spins of interest at liquid helium temperatures, below 2 K, before melting the sample in view of hyperpolarized liquid‐state magnetic resonance experiments. Reaching such a temperature is challenging and requires complex instrumentation, which impedes the deployment of dDNP. Here, we propose organic conductive polymers such as polyaniline (PANI) as a new class of polarizing matrices and report 1H polarizations of up to 5 %. We also show that 13C spins of a host solution impregnated in porous conductive polymers can be hyperpolarized by relayed DNP. Such conductive polymers can be synthesized as chiral and display current induced spin selectivity leading to electron spin hyperpolarization close to unity without the need for low temperatures nor high magnetic fields. Antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) therapies hold significant promise in the realm of molecular medicine. By precisely targeting RNA molecules, ASOs offer an approach to modulate gene expression and protein production, making them valuable tools for treating a wide range of genetic and acquired diseases. As the precise intracellular targeting and delivery of ASOs is challenging, strategies for preparing ASO‐ligand conjugates are in exceedingly high demand. This work leverages the utility of native chemical ligation to conjugate ASOs with therapeutically relevant chemical modifications including locked nucleic acids and phosphorothioate backbone modifications to peptides and sugars via a stable amide linkage. A suite of post‐ligation functionalizations through modification of the cysteine ligation handle are highlighted, including chemoselective radical desulfurization, lipidation, and alkylation with a range of valuable handles (e.g. alkyne, biotin, and radionuclide chelating ligands), affording multifunctional constructs for further applications in biology and medicine. Application of the methodology to a clinically‐relevant triantennary‐GalNAc ASO conjugate and validation of its binding and functional activity underpins the applicability of the technique to oligonucleotide‐based therapeutics. In this neuropathological study, we investigated neuroinflammation surrounding recent and old cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) and cerebral microinfarcts (CMIs) in 18 cases of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). We used several serial stainings and immunolabellings to identify microvascular lesions, define their recent or old stage, and characterize neuroinflammatory response (scavenging activity and astrogliosis). We found that both CMBs and CMIs induce a neuroinflammatory response, which was more pronounced in old lesion than recent. Astrogliosis and scavenging activity were differentially prominent according to the ischemic/hemorrhagic nature of the lesion. The production of materials based on fossil resources is yielding more sustainable and ecologically beneficial methods. Vegetable oils (VO) are one example of base materials whose derivatives rival the properties of their petro‐based counterparts. Gaps exist however and one way to fill them is by employing sol–gel processes to synthesize organic–inorganic hybrid materials, often derived from silane/siloxane compounds. Creating Si─O─Si inorganic networks in the organic VO matrix permits the attainment of necessary strength, among other property enhancements. Consequently, many efforts have been directed to optimally achieve organic–inorganic hybrid materials with VOs. However, compatibilization is challenging, and desirable conditions for matching the inorganic filler in the organic matrix remain a key stumbling block toward wider application. Therefore, this review aims to detail recent progress on these new hybrids, focusing on the main strategies to polymerize and functionalize the raw VO, followed by routes highlighting the addition of the inorganic fillers to obtain desirable composites. Biodiversity‐oriented urban management and planning require information on the drivers of wildlife composition and ecosystem function within cities. Urban landscapes impose environmental gradients along which species may be filtered away, or respond by showing adaptive variation in functional trait values. Such trait variation may in turn be due to a species' phenotypic plasticity, or a consequence of microevolution leading to local adaptation.This study investigates three possible plant responses to urban environmental gradients, with different evolutionary consequences: extinction, plasticity and adaptation. We assessed whether individual functional traits (LMA—leaf mass per area, plant height and flower length), population performance traits (seed mass and germination rate), as well as species frequency in the plant community, responded to gradients in mowing frequency, soil fertility and structure, temperature and surrounding mean building height, among four herbaceous plant species present in the metropolitan area of Strasbourg. Using a common garden experiment, we tested whether the observed trait variation was hereditary, and may thus constitute evidence for local adaptation.Our results detected the three types of expected responses. Plantago lanceolata is plastic to urban gradients, and Trifolium pratense showed both plastic and hereditary responses. Dactylis glomerata and Medicago lupulina showed all three responses: they both declined under increasing mowing frequency, were plastic to surrounding mean building height, and showed hereditary responses to different urban gradients.Urban management and planning therefore impact on the evolutionary capabilities of plants in cities. In the case of management this is highlighted by the detected trends in species' traits and frequency in response to mowing. The consequences of urban planning are evidenced by mean building height eliciting most often plastic and adaptive responses.Synthesis. Herbaceous plants often change their morphology in response to urban conditions: grass cutting, altered soils, warmer temperatures and being surrounded by tightly packed buildings. Oxygen isotopes in stream water can serve as natural tracers of watershed dynamics. Freshwater pearl mussels provide δ18Owater estimates that overcome temporal and spatial limitations of instrumental records. The reliability of shell‐based δ18Owater reconstructions depends on understanding which shell layer biomineralizes closer to oxygen isotopic equilibrium with ambient water. To determine this, both the (outer) prismatic and (inner) nacreous sublayers of the outer shell layer were sampled. Over 2500 isotope values were obtained from shells collected from the Our River (Luxembourg) and from mussels cultured in tanks at constant temperature and monitored δ18Owater. Calculated δ18Owater from the prismatic portion was in excellent agreement with monitored δ18Owater, while δ18Oshell of the nacreous portion was systematically offset by +0.43‰, overestimating δ18Owater by +0.53‰. Although shell portions were formed simultaneously from the same extrapallial fluid, they underwent different fractionation mechanisms, presumably due to differences in carbonic anhydrase activity catalyzing mineralization processes. The primary objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges involved in detecting ancient ayahuasca, a traditional hallucinogenic drink from the Amazon region, which is prepared using Banisteriopsis caapi liana and other plants, by utilizing advanced analytical techniques. The presence of harmine and harmaline in Andean archaeological findings has led certain authors to speculate that the Banisteriopsis liana may have been the source plant responsible for their occurrence. Consequently, the utilization of this liana can be traced back to at least 500 CE. However, a combination of archaeological, ethnobotanical, biochemical and analytical chemistry considerations has rendered uncertain the true origins of the presence of harmine and harmaline in ancient mummies and artifacts. Objectives: Accurate assessment of gestational age (GA) is important at both individual and population levels. The most accurate way to estimate GA in women who book late in pregnancy is unknown. The aim of this study was to externally validate the accuracy of equations for GA estimation in late pregnancy and to identify the best equation for estimating GA in women who do not receive an ultrasound scan until the second or third trimester. Design: This was a prospective, observational cross‐sectional study. Setting: 57 prenatal care centres, France. Participants: Women with a singleton pregnancy and a previous 11–14‐week dating scan that gave the observed GA were recruited over an 8‐week period. They underwent a standardised ultrasound examination at one time point during the pregnancy (15–43 weeks), measuring 12 foetal biometric parameters that have previously been identified as useful for GA estimation. Main Outcome Measures: A total of 189 equations that estimate GA based on foetal biometry were examined and compared with GA estimation based on foetal CRL. Comparisons between the observed GA and the estimated GA were made using R2, calibration slope and intercept. RMSE, mean difference and 95% range of error were also calculated. Results: A total of 2741 pregnant women were examined. After exclusions, 2339 participants were included. In the 20 best performing equations, the intercept ranged from −0.22 to 0.30, the calibration slope from 0.96 to 1.03 and the RSME from 0.67 to 0.87. Overall, multiparameter models outperformed single‐parameter models. Both the 95% range of error and mean difference increased with gestation. Commonly used models based on measurement of the head circumference alone were not amongst the best performing models and were associated with higher 95% error and mean difference. Conclusions: We provide strong evidence that GA‐specific equations based on multiparameter models should be used to estimate GA in late pregnancy. However, as all methods of GA assessment in late pregnancy are associated with large prediction intervals, efforts to improve access to early antenatal ultrasound must remain a priority. Increases in shrub height, biomass and canopy cover are key whole‐plant features of warming‐induced vegetation change in tundra. We investigated leaf functional traits underlying photosynthetic capacity of Arctic shrub species, particularly its main limiting processes such as mesophyll conductance. In this nutrient‐limited ecosystem, we expect leaf nitrogen concentration to be the main limiting factor for photosynthesis. We measured the net photosynthetic rate at saturated light (Asat) in three Salix species throughout a glacial valley in High‐Arctic tundra and used a causal approach to test relationships between leaf stomatal and mesophyll conductances (gsc, gm), carboxylation capacity (Vcmax), nitrogen and phosphorus concentration (Narea, Parea) and leaf mass ratio (LMA). Arctic Salix species showed no difference in Asat compared to a global data set, while being characterized by higher Narea, Parea and LMA. Vcmax, gsc and gm independently increased Asat, with Vcmax as its main limitation. We highlighted a nitrogen‐influenced pathway for increasing photosynthesis in the two prostrate mesic habitat species. In contrast, the erect wetland habitat Salix richardsonii mainly increased Asat with increasing gsc. Overall, our study revealed high photosynthetic capacities of Arctic Salix species but contrasting regulatory pathways that may influence shrub ability to respond to environmental changes in High Arctic tundra. Summary statement: The photosynthetic capacity and limitations in Arctic shrubs revealing contrasting adaptations among Salix species that may influence their ability to provide negative carbon feedback to the atmosphere in high‐Arctic tundra, despite their similar photosynthetic rate compared to a global data set. Rewetting peatlands is required to limit carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, however, raising the groundwater level (GWL) will strongly increase the chance of methane (CH4) emissions which has a higher radiative forcing than CO2. Data sets of CH4 from different rewetting strategies and natural systems are scarce, and quantification and an understanding of the main drivers of CH4 emissions are needed to make effective peatland rewetting decisions. We present a large data set of CH4 fluxes (FCH4) measured across 16 sites with eddy covariance on Dutch peatlands. Sites were classified into six land uses, which also determined their vegetation and GWL range. We investigated the principal drivers of emissions and gapfilled the data using machine learning (ML) to derive annual totals. In addition, Shapley values were used to understand the importance of drivers to ML model predictions. The data showed the typical controls of FCH4 where temperature and the GWL were the dominant factors, however, some relationships were dependent on land use and the vegetation present. There was a clear average increase in FCH4 with increasing GWLs, with the highest emissions occurring at GWLs near the surface. Soil temperature was the single most important predictor for ML gapfilling but the Shapley values revealed the multi‐driver dependency of FCH4. Mean annual FCH4 totals across all land uses ranged from 90 ± 11 to 632 ± 65 kg CH4 ha−1 year−1 and were on average highest for semi‐natural land uses, followed by paludiculture, lake, wet grassland and pasture with water infiltration system. The mean annual flux was strongly correlated with the mean annual GWL (R2 = 0.80). The greenhouse gas balance of our sites still needs to be estimated to determine the net climate impact, however, our results indicate that considerable rates of CO2 uptake and long‐term storage are required to fully offset the emissions of CH4 from land uses with high GWLs. The study examined the rate of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) after discontinuing anticoagulation in patients who developed VTE within 30 days of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. The findings indicated a low recurrence rate of VTE after stopping anticoagulant therapy, suggesting a relatively low risk of recurrent thrombotic events post-cessation. Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) is often used to determine the sulfur contents and isotope ratios of metallic alloys in meteorites or high‐pressure experimental samples. However, SIMS analyses involve calibration and the determination of instrumental mass fractionation in reference materials with a matrix composition similar to that of the unknown samples. To provide metallic reference materials adapted to S measurements via SIMS, we synthesised a series of twenty‐eight alloys comprising four FeNi(±Si) compositions (Fe95Ni5, Fe90Ni10, Fe80Ni20, and Fe80Ni15Si5) with S contents varying from 100 μg g−1 to 4 g/100g using the "melt spinning" method, which guarantees that the metal alloys are rapidly quenched at ~ 106 K s−1. Sulfur contents were determined at the Service d'Analyse des Roches et Minéraux at the CRPG and absolute δ34S values were determined by multi‐collector ICP‐MS (MC‐ICP‐MS, ThermoScientific Neptune) and isotope ratio mass spectrometry (Thermoscientific Delta V). A δ34S value of 16.01 ± 0.31‰ was consistently obtained using the MC‐ICP‐MS, which was indistinguishable of the δ34S value of the FeS starting material (15.95 ± 0.08‰). It suggests that S did not undergo isotopic fractionation during the melting process. Of fifteen samples containing ≤ 5000 μg g−1 S, SIMS measurements with 15‐μm‐diameter spots were repeatable to within 10% relative (1 standard deviation, 1s) for S contents and 2‰ for δ34S values. However, samples containing > 5000 μg g−1 S showed FeNi–FeS immiscibility, leading to minor dispersion of the S mass fractions and δ34S values. No matrix effect was observed for Fe‐Ni, Si, or S contents in terms of the calibration curves and instrumental mass fractionation. We ultimately recommend eight samples as reliable reference materials for S isotopic measurements by SIMS, which we can share worldwide with other laboratories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objectives of the study were (i) to evaluate the effects of whole‐body cryostimulation (WBC) after training as an effective tool to improve sleep and recovery and (ii) to determine which exposure schedule for WBC (immediately after training vs. 1h before bedtime) is the most appropriate to improve sleep and recovery. Twenty‐two well‐trained male athletes or triathletes (23.1 ± 3.5‐years) were recruited in this controlled crossover protocol. Each participant completed the three experimental sessions, each composed of a running training session and one night of sleep analysis. Depending on the experimental condition, subjects were exposed—or not (CONT)—to WBC immediately after training (CRYO 7 p.m.) or 1h before going to bed (CRYO 10 p.m.). All participants were randomly assigned to each condition, spaced seven days apart. Sleep was monitored via actimetry, cerebral activity recordings, heart rate variability, body core temperature, and perceptual measurements. WBC after training did not modify subjective or objective sleep parameters compared to the control condition. However, WBC significantly improved cardiac parasympathetic activity. More specifically, it was more activated during the night following the CRYO 10 p.m. condition than in the other experimental conditions. Core body temperature (CBT) 1h after bedtime was the lowest in the CRYO 10 p.m. condition. This study confirmed the effectiveness of WBC as a recovery technique after intense evening training. We suggest that WBC may exhibit the most significant benefit on recovery if the session is performed 1h before bedtime, acting on subsequent parasympathetic activation and CBT drop. Although Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection can be cured with direct‐acting antivirals (DAA), some cured patients face a serious risk of advanced liver damage and early mortality. In order to avoid these two negative health outcomes, it is important to identify and assess related risk factors. Little is currently known about socioeconomic and behavioural factors in this context. Using data from the ANRS CO22 Hepather cohort, we tested for associations between socioeconomic and behavioural factors and (i) advanced liver fibrosis (defined as an FIB‐4 > 3.25) assessed longitudinally using a mixed‐effects logistic regression model (both the whole population and stratified on advanced liver fibrosis status at the time of HCV cure) and (ii) all‐cause mortality (Cox proportional hazards model), during post‐HCV cure follow‐up. Among 5833 participants cured of HCV, living in poverty was associated with postcure advanced liver fibrosis in participants without this diagnosis at the time of HCV cure (population attributable fraction—PAF—of 8.6%) and with mortality in the whole study population (PAF of 10.6%). The detrimental effects of unhealthy alcohol use and heavy tobacco smoking, as well as the beneficial effect of living with a stable partner were also highlighted. We highlighted the major role of poverty and behavioural factors in advanced liver fibrosis and all‐cause mortality in patients cured of HCV. Encouraging linkage to social support services and healthy behaviours after successful DAA treatment could limit morbidity and increase survival in this population. Background and Purpose: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by pervasive personality and behavioural disturbances with severe impact on patients and caregivers. In current clinical practice, treatment is based on nonpharmacological and pharmacological approaches. Unfortunately, trial‐based evidence supporting symptomatic pharmacological treatment for the behavioural disturbances in FTD is scarce despite the significant burden this poses on the patients and caregivers. Method: The study examined drug management decisions for several behavioural disturbances in patients with FTD by 21 experts across European expert centres affiliated with the European Reference Network for Rare Neurological Diseases (ERN‐RND). Results: The study revealed the highest consensus on drug treatments for physical and verbal aggression, impulsivity and obsessive delusions. Antipsychotics (primarily quetiapine) were recommended for behaviours posing safety risks to both patients and caregivers (aggression, self‐injury and self‐harm) and nightly unrest. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors were recommended for perseverative somatic complaints, rigidity of thought, hyperphagia, loss of empathy and for impulsivity. Trazodone was specifically recommended for motor unrest, mirtazapine for nightly unrest, and bupropion and methylphenidate for apathy. Additionally, bupropion was strongly advised against in 10 out of the 14 behavioural symptoms, emphasizing a clear recommendation against its use in the majority of cases. Conclusions: The survey data can provide expert guidance that is helpful for healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of behavioural symptoms. Background/Aim: 3D printing processes can be used to manufacture custom‐made mouthguards for sports activities. Few studies have compared the impact performance of industrial‐created mouthguards with that of custom‐made mouthguards manufactured by thermoforming or 3D printing. The objective of this in vitro study was to compare the shock absorption capacities of custom‐made mouthguards manufactured by 3D printing with industrial mouthguards and thermoformed ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) mouthguards. Materials and Methods: For each type of mouthguard, eight samples were produced. 3D‐printed mouthguards were manufactured using digital light processing technology. Each mouthguard was subjected to an impact performance test defined by the standard AFNOR XP S72‐427, which evaluate maximum deceleration and force transmitted during impact. The thickness of each mouthguard before and after a series of five impacts was measured at the impacted inter‐incisal area. Results: The mean maximum decelerations during impact ranged from 129 to 189 g for industrial mouthguards, 287 to 425 g for thermoformed EVA mouthguards, and 277 to 302 g for 3D‐printed mouthguards. The mean reduction in mouthguard thickness at the impact zone after five tests was 1.2 mm for industrial mouthguards, 0.6 mm for 3D‐printed mouthguards, and 2.2 mm for thermoformed EVA mouthguards. Conclusions: Custom‐made 3D printed mouthguards showed slightly better shock absorption ability than thermoformed mouthguards with respect to the indicator proposed in XP S72‐427. They seemed to combine the practical advantages of thermoformed mouthguards in sports with better shock absorption capacity and lower cost. Furthermore, they had the least thickness variation during the test, and their shock absorption capacity was the least affected by repeated mechanical tests. Other types of 3D‐printing resin materials that will become available must continue to be tested for shock absorption to provide the best protection to users at low cost. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: In sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA), men who have sex with men (MSM) often have female sexual partners. Their overall risk of acquiring HIV is higher with male partners. Risk perception is associated with HIV knowledge, sexual risk and preventive behaviours. This synthesis aimed to summarize existing data about HIV knowledge and perceived HIV acquisition risk regarding sex with men and with women in MSM in SSA. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review of MSM's relationships with women in SSA (PROSPERO‐CRD42021237836). Quantitative and qualitative data related to MSM's perceived risk from sex with men and with women and HIV knowledge (published up to 2021) were selected and synthesized. Results: Twenty studies were selected. More MSM perceived that the greatest risk of HIV acquisition came from heterosexual/vaginal sex than from homosexual/anal sex (53% vs. 15%; 51% vs. 39%; 42% vs. 8%; 27% vs. 25%; 43% vs. 11%; 23% vs. 13%; 35% vs. 16%, cumulative sample n = 4396, six countries). A higher proportion of MSM received preventive information on heterosexual HIV transmission than on homosexual transmission (79% vs. 22%; 94% vs. 67%; 54% vs. 19%; cumulative sample n = 1199, four countries). The qualitative synthesis (eight studies) highlighted biology‐ and behaviour‐based misconceptions leading MSM to perceive lower or negligible HIV risk from sex with men, compared to sex with women. These misconceptions were partly fuelled by the predominant focus on heterosexual and vaginal HIV transmission in HIV prevention information. Discussion: Common misconceptions regarding sexual risk between men remain unaddressed by the heteronormative messaging of HIV prevention. Underestimation by MSM of their HIV acquisition risk with male partners can pose significant barriers to effective HIV preventive behaviours and strengthen the transmission risk from MSM to their female partners. Conclusions: Improving access of MSM to tailored HIV prevention information and tools that address their practices with male and female partners is crucial. Integrating messages about anal sex into broader public health initiatives, including sexual health programmes targeting the general population, is essential. Further research in diverse settings in SSA is necessary to gain a greater understanding of the drivers and implications of HIV risk perception in MSM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Low back pain was the sixth most common reason for an ED visit in 2022–2023 in Australia, one‐third of these patients were subsequently admitted to hospital. Therefore, we have assessed whether some patients could be diverted to alternate clinical pathways, via admission to a virtual hospital (rpavirtual), and be cared for remotely in their own homes. Methods: Ethics approval was granted for protocols X21‐0278 & 2021/ETH10967 and X21‐0094 & 2021/ETH00591. We conducted a mixed‐method process evaluation, using the RE‐AIM framework (reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation and maintenance) to answer key questions regarding the Back@Home model of care. Results: This preliminary evaluation describes a cohort of the first 50 patients who received care between 13 February and 31 July 2023. The service had high levels of reach and adoption, very low levels of ED representation, and no AEs. Virtual care cost a median of AU$2215 (interquartile range = AU$1724–AU$2855) per admission. Patients admitted virtually had the same high satisfaction with care as traditionally admitted patients and reported less pain and better physical function. Conclusions: Preliminary findings suggest that this model of care is a safe, acceptable, and feasible alternative to hospitalisation for non‐serious low back pain, in a select cohort of patients meeting inclusion criteria. Further data collection will inform whether Back@Home has had an impact on length of stay or traditional admission rates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To determine the prevalence of genetic and endocrine abnormalities and to assess fetal, neonatal and surgical outcomes in cases of hypospadias associated with fetal growth restriction. Method: A multicentric retrospective study was conducted across five prenatal diagnosis centers in Paris. The cohort encompassed all fetuses diagnosed with the combination of fetal growth restriction < 10th percentile (FGR) and hypospadias from 2013 to 2021. Maternal data, fetal outcome and results of prenatal investigations were collected, along with postnatal data, encompassing endocrinological and genetic assessments, functional aspects and surgical outcomes. Results: Among the 82 patients included in the cohort, there were 14 (17%) terminations of pregnancy and four (5%) in utero deaths, leaving 64 (78%) live neonates, including five (6%) with early neonatal death. Among the 52 (63%) cases where hypospadias and FGR were considered as ultrasound‐isolated anomalies, six (12%, [3.2%–20.8%]) exhibited chromosomic, genetic, or endocrinological abnormalities diagnosed half prenatally and half postnatally. Fifty percent of the overall hypospadias were proximal. Most children underwent surgical intervention before reaching 2 years of age, with 50% encountering complications and often required reintervention. Conclusion: The association of FGR and hypospadias should not be underestimated as genetic or endocrinological abnormalities were identified even when hypospadias and FGR initially appear isolated. Background: In‐vivo monitoring methods of carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) includes explorations of nuclear reaction products generated by carbon‐ion beams interacting with patient tissues. Our research group focuses on in‐vivo monitoring of CIRT using silicon pixel detectors. Currently, we are conducting a prospective clinical trial as part of the In‐Vivo Monitoring project (InViMo) at the Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center (HIT) in Germany. We are using an innovative, in‐house developed, non‐contact fragment tracking system with seven mini‐trackers based on the Timepix3 technology developed at CERN. Purpose: This article focuses on the implementation of the mini‐tracker in Monte Carlo (MC) based on FLUKA simulations to monitor secondary charged nuclear fragments in CIRT. The main objective is to systematically evaluate the simulation accuracy for the InViMo project. Methods: The implementation involved integrating the mini‐tracker geometry and the scoring mechanism into the FLUKA MC simulation, utilizing the finely tuned HIT beam line. The systematic investigation included varying mini‐tracker angles (from 15∘$15^\circ$ to 45∘$45^\circ$ in 5∘$5^\circ$ steps) during the irradiation of a head‐sized phantom with therapeutic carbon‐ion pencil beams. To evaluate our implemented FLUKA framework, a comparison was made between the experimental data and data obtained from MC simulations. To ensure the fidelity of our comparison, experiments were performed at the HIT using the parameters and setup established in the simulations. Results: Our research demonstrates high accuracy in reproducing characteristic behaviors and dependencies of the monitoring method in terms of fragment distributions in the mini‐tracker, track angles, emission profiles, and fragment numbers. Discrepancies in the number of detected fragments between the experimental data and the data obtained from MC simulations are less than 4% for the angles of interest in the InViMo detection system. Conclusions: Our study confirms the potential of our simulation framework to investigate the performance of monitoring inter‐fractional anatomical changes in patients undergoing CIRT using secondary nuclear charged fragments escaping from the irradiated patient. Transitioning to a circular economy (CE) can contribute to the achievement of long‐term climate targets. A comprehensive evaluation of CE strategies requires a macro‐level approach that integrates environmental, social, and economic goals. Policy support, behavioral changes, innovation, and new business models play key roles in this transition. Additionally, understanding the potential synergies, benefits, and trade‐offs associated with these strategies is essential for their effective implementation. This paper proposes a novel approach, using macroeconomic modeling, industrial ecology, and behavioral concepts to evaluate the impacts of CE strategies on socioeconomic and climate systems. As an application, the paper investigates the environmental and economic effects in Japan of increasing the extended producer responsibility (EPR) fee on energy‐using durable goods. We show that increasing the fee makes households substitute conventional goods for circular services. Also, while increasing EPR fees for energy‐using durable goods may decrease the materials needed to produce and operate these goods, the overall impact on sustainability goals is rather low.
