The spike growth phase is critical for the establishment of fertile floret (grain) numbers in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Then, how to shorten the spike growth phase and increase grain number synergistically? Here, we showed high‐resolution analyses of floret primordia (FP) number, morphology and spike transcriptomes during the spike growth phase under three light regimens. The development of all FP in a spike could be divided into four distinct stages: differentiation (Stage I), differentiation and morphology development concurrently (Stage II), morphology development (Stage III), and polarization (Stage IV). Compared to the short photoperiod, the long photoperiod shortened spike growth and stimulated early flowering by shortening Stage III; however, this reduced assimilate accumulation, resulting in fertile floret loss. Interestingly, long photoperiod supplemented with red light shortened the time required to complete Stages I–II, then raised assimilates supply in the spike and promoted anther development before polarization initiation, thereby increasing fertile FP number during Stage III, and finally maintained fertile FP development during Stage IV until they became fertile florets via a predicted dynamic gene network. Our findings proposed a light regimen, critical stages and candidate regulators that achieved a shorter spike growth phase and a higher fertile floret number in wheat. Summary statement: A light regimen could achieve a 'shorter spike growth phase' and 'higher fertile floret number' in wheat by regulating gene expression, assimilate accumulation and morphology development in the critical stages of floret development. The dispersive, reusable catalyst and convenient separation is still a key factor for water treatment. Herein, the Fe0/Fe3O4/Fe3C@ hydrophilic carbon composite catalyst was obtained through thermal reduction, in which Fe0 is generated by in‐situ carbothermal reduction of the rationally designed gel precursor. The FTIR, SEM‐EDX and the XPS analysis revealed that the major hydrophilic functional groups and elements were well‐dispersed on the entire surface of the catalyst. Through batch control experiments, it is shown that the synthetic catalyst can significantly accelerate the catalysis of Methylene blue under the radiation of 30 W LED lamp. The Electron Spin Resonance test further confirms that catalyst could be successfully trap ⋅OH radicals. With the increase of radiation time, such energy changes affect the coupling effect of spin‐orbital motion is stronger leading to changes in the g‐anisotropy. Organic pollution can be degraded by the porous catalyst in a photo‐Fenton reaction with the degradation efficiency rate approaching nearly 100 % when the concentration of H2O2 is 7 mm. The reusability was demonstrated by five consecutive reaction cycles at continuously good performance. This work provides a highly promising and facile strategy for many wastewater treatments, especially in the field of photo‐Fenton like reaction to environmental modification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: The European tarnished plant bug Lygus rugulipennis Poppius (Hemiptera: Miridae) can cause several types of damage to crops grown in greenhouses and fields, including flower abortion in eggplant, stem and fruit damage in cucumbers, and splits in chrysanthemums. Studies suggest that both male and female L. rugulipennis may be more attracted to traps based on visual attraction than pheromone‐based trap. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a water trap with LED lights and semiochemicals in trapping L. rugulipennis in the laboratory and greenhouse. RESULTS: The results showed that water traps equipped with white LED light caught 20– 30 times more bugs than did the sex pheromone‐based traps in greenhouse experiment. During the week of peak flight, the LED water trap caught a total of 29 males and females, whereas the sex pheromone caught only one male. Among the semiochemicals tested in a Y‐tube, both males and females were attracted to ß‐caryophyllene, but not in the presence of the sex pheromone, whereas both males and females were attracted to pentyl butyrate in the presence of the sex pheromone. The pheromone plus bean plant odor was attractive to the insects, suggesting an interaction between plant odor and pheromone. CONCLUSION: Overall, the findings of the study showed that the water trap with LED light could be an effective method for trapping L. rugulipennis in greenhouses. © 2022 The Authors. The biosynthesis of anthocyanins has been shown to be influenced by light quality. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the light‐mediated regulation of fruit anthocyanin biosynthesis are not well understood. In this study, we analysed the effects of supplemental red and blue light on the anthocyanin biosynthesis in non‐climacteric bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.). After 6 days of continuous irradiation during ripening, both red and blue light elevated concentration of anthocyanins, up to 12‐ and 4‐folds, respectively, compared to the control. Transcriptomic analysis of ripening berries showed that both light treatments up‐regulated all the major anthocyanin structural genes, the key regulatory MYB transcription factors and abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthetic genes. However, higher induction of specific genes of anthocyanin and delphinidin biosynthesis alongside ABA signal perception and metabolism were found in red light. The difference in red and blue light signalling was found in 9‐cis‐epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED), ABA receptor pyrabactin resistance‐like (PYL) and catabolic ABA‐8'hydroxylase gene expression. Red light also up‐regulated expression of soluble N‐ethylmaleimide‐sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) domain transporters, which may indicate involvement of these proteins in vesicular trafficking of anthocyanins during fruit ripening. Our results suggest differential signal transduction and transport mechanisms between red and blue light in ABA‐regulated anthocyanin and delphinidin biosynthesis during bilberry fruit ripening. Both red and blue light promoted anthocyanin biosynthesis in non‐climacteric bilberry fruit, regulated by abscisic acid metabolism. The key difference was detected in genes involved in abscisic acid (ABA) metabolism and signalling. Red light induced high accumulation of delphinidins towards end of berry ripening. This paper focuses on human–robot interaction (HRI) design and describes an emotional expression system for humanoid robot. The system is set on the chest of the robot and consists of LED lights and breathing simulator, with which the robot is expected to visually express its emotions to the user. We had participants join in our experiment to test what kind of emotion is recognized and how strong it is when the system works in different patterns. The result shows that the proposed system has the potential to express different emotions of humanoid robot to help users better understand robot's intention in HRI. © 2022 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Skin fibrosis, often referred to as skin scarring, is a significant international health problem with limited treatment options. The hallmarks of skin fibrosis are increased fibroblast proliferation, collagen production, and migration speed. Recently published clinical observations indicate that visible red light may improve skin fibrosis. In this study we hypothesize that high-fluence light-emitting diode-generated red light (HF-LED-RL) modulates the key cellular features of skin fibrosis by decreasing cellular proliferation, collagen production, and migration speed of human skin fibroblasts. Herein, we demonstrate that HF-LED-RL increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation for up to 4 hours, inhibits fibroblast proliferation without increasing apoptosis, inhibits collagen production, and inhibits migration speed through modulation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway. We demonstrate that HF-LED-RL is capable of inhibiting the unifying cellular processes involved in skin fibrosis including fibroblast proliferation, collagen production, and migration speed. These findings suggest that HF-LED-RL may represent a new approach to treat skin fibrosis. LED advantages include low cost, portability, and ease of use. Further characterizing the photobiomodulatory effects of HF-LED-RL on fibroblasts and investigating the anti-fibrotic effects of HF-LED-RL in human subjects may provide new insight into the utility of this therapeutic approach for skin fibrosis. As a demonstration, our proposed system has been introduced into actual offices in Tokyo. It consists of fluorescent lighting fixtures, light control units, microprocessors, illuminance sensors, and distributed optimization software. The lower control limit of a fluorescent light fixture is between 20% and 30%. We measured the relationship between the color temperature and the dimming range for the illuminance. The experimental results showed that the dimming range for the illuniinance was narrow. To provide each worker's desired illuminance and color teiliperature, an LED ceiling light which can control the luminance between 0% and 100% is preferable. However, LED ceiling lights for office use have not been developed so far. The two leading light equipnient niakers have prototyped LED ceiling lights. We developed an intelligent lighting system using these lights and verified its effectiveness. The experimental results showed that the proposed systeni could provide the required illuminance and color temperature, and could achieve an energy savings of 60 to 80%. The intelligent system has a high affinity for LED lights. From the point of view of effective utilization of energy, the intelligent lighting system using LED ceiling lights showed good performance. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) with its precursor miniaturization of anagen phase (MA) and telogen effluvium (TE) represent nonscarring hair loss diseases which causes moderate to severe aesthetic and psychologic discomfort in affected people. Several therapeutic approaches have been tested through the latest decades, with different degree of success. In this study we aim to analyze the efficacy and outcome of an innovative therapeutic protocol, named TRICHOBIOLIGHT, a combination of active principles conveyed by mesotherapy directly on the scalp with a subsequent photobiostimulation session with LED light (630 nm). About 107 patients (49 women, 58 men, mean age 45-year-old) with clinical and trichoscopic diagnosis of MA, AGA, and TE have been enrolled at Skin Center of L'Aquila, Avezzano and Pescara (Italy) and subsequently treated with the TRICHOBIOLIGHT protocol. 4 patients dropped out at the beginning of the study: 2 patients because of an histological diagnosis of scarring alopecia and lichen scleroatrophicus, and 2 patients dropped out because of adverse reaction to the treatment. Excellent to good outcome have been reached in the 82.5% of patients (85/103), 9 patients (8.7%) reached a sufficient result while 7 patients (6.8%) partially respond to the treatment. Two patients (2%) did not respond at all. TRICHOBIOLIGHT is a promising protocol, working through the combined action of the active principles and the photobiostimulation, that lead to a strengthening and thickening of the residual hair, giving an optical thickening effect that provides high quality aesthetic results and, consequently, appreciable psychological results., (© 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)
