The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of adding flame‐retardant melamine and five different dispersants on the precipitation, foaming, mechanical, and thermal properties of flexible polyurethane foam (FPUF). Precipitation experiments were conducted to analyze the effect of dispersant on the separation of flame retardant and polyol, and the foaming characteristics of polyurethane (PU) foam after adding dispersant were analyzed. The effect of adding a dispersant on mechanical strength was characterized by measuring tensile strength, tearing strength, and hardness, and scanning electron microscopy analysis was performed to analyze morphological characteristics. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed to analyze the thermal properties of PU foam. A horizontal flame test, limiting oxygen index test, and cone calorimeter tests were conducted to examine the flame retardancy of PU foam with flame retardant melamine and dispersant added. The dispersant ANTI‐TERRA‐U is a solution of a salt of unsaturated polyamine amides and low‐molecular acidic polyesters. And, the dispersant BYK‐220S is a solution of a low molecular weight, unsaturated acidic polycarboxylic acid polyester with a polysiloxane copolymer. The dispersants ANTI‐TERRA‐U and BYK‐220S improved the density, tensile strength, tear strength, and hardness of FPUF. TGA of the top and bottom portions of the foam showed less weight difference for samples containing dispersants, indicating better homogeneity due to improved dispersibility. In this study, the mechanical and flame‐retardant properties of flexible polyurethane foams (FPUF) were analyzed as a function of the type of flame retardant. FPUF containing equal amounts of two halogenated flame retardants (tris 2‐cloropropyl phosphate [TCPP] and phosphinyl alkyl phosphate ester) and three halogen‐free flame retardants (melamine, melamine cyanurate, and expandable graphite) were considered. The foaming properties of these samples were analyzed by studying the rise time and settling rate using cup foaming. Square foaming was used to analyze the mechanical properties, including density, elongation, tensile strength, and tear strength. In addition, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy was performed, and flame retardancy was evaluated using a horizontal flame test and the limited oxygen index. A cone calorimeter test was also performed to evaluate the combustion characteristics. In FPUF containing the same ratio of flame retardant (15% of the total polyol), the properties of urethane foam blended with expandable graphite were improved; the tensile strength of this blend is 20% higher than that of samples containing melamine, and its peak heat release showed a 70% reduction compared to that of samples containing TCPP. Objective: Population‐based studies of the familial aggregation of gout are scarce, and gene/environment interactions are not well studied. This study was undertaken to evaluate the familial aggregation of gout as well as assess interactions between family history and obesity or alcohol consumption on the development of gout. Methods: Using the Korean National Health Insurance database, which includes information regarding familial relationships and risk factor data, we identified 5,524,403 individuals from 2002 to 2018. Familial risk was calculated using hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) to compare the risk in individuals with and those without affected first‐degree relatives. Interactions between family history and obesity/alcohol consumption were assessed on an additive scale using the relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI). Results: Individuals with a gout‐affected first‐degree relative had a 2.42‐fold (95% CI 2.39, 2.46) increased risk of disease compared to those with unaffected first‐degree relatives. Having both a family history of gout and being either overweight or having moderate alcohol consumption was associated with a markedly increased risk of disease, with HRs of 4.39 (95% CI 4.29, 4.49) and 2.28 (95% CI 2.22, 2.35), respectively, which exceeded the sum of their individual risks but was only statistically significant in overweight individuals (RERI 0.96 [95% CI 0.85, 1.06]). Obese individuals (RERI 1.88 [95% CI 1.61, 2.16]) and heavy drinkers (RERI 0.36 [95% CI 0.20, 0.52]) had a more prominent interaction compared to overweight individuals and moderate drinkers, suggesting a dose‐response interaction pattern. The field of polymer‐based nanoscience has always been of significant interest in the search for polymer/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites with optimized material properties for new applications. Herein, it is demonstrated that data collected from the online literature can be used to develop an efficient deep learning model to design acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS)/CNT binary composites. A dataset of 14 945 data points is constructed from 110 studies. The results demonstrate that compared with a vanilla deep regression model, the proposed model achieves a 26% lower average mean absolute error and an accuracy of 80.6%, which is 16.2% higher than the vanilla deep regression model in predicting the six electrical and mechanical properties of target ABS/CNT composites. In addition, a Monte Carlo simulation integrated with the developed deep neural network (DNN) model effectively screens input variables for users and thus appropriately guides them to manufacture a composite product with desired physical properties. The development of conjugated polymers with structures that are suitable for efficient molecular doping and charge transport is a key challenge in the construction of high‐performance conjugated polymer‐based thermoelectric devices. In this study, three novel conjugated polymers based on dithienopyrrole (DTP) are synthesized and their thermoelectric properties are compared. When doped with p‐dopant, a donor–acceptor type copolymer, DPP‐MeDTP, exhibits higher electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power factor compared to the other donor–donor type copolymers. The high electrical conductivity of DPP‐MeDTP compared to the other polymers originates from the high degree of backbone planarity and molecular order, which contributes to its high charge carrier mobility. In addition, the highly crystalline structure of DPP‐MeDTP is well maintained upon doping, while the crystalline order of the other polymers decreases significantly upon doping. The findings of this work not only provide insights into the design of DTP‐based conjugated polymers for thermoelectric use but also demonstrate the significance of a high degree of molecular order and structural robustness upon doping to achieve high thermoelectric performance. Background: Concerns have been raised that scores on standard measures of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) symptoms may differ as a function of sex. However, these findings are hindered by small female samples studied thus far. The current study evaluated if, after accounting for age, IQ, and language level, sex affects ASD severity estimates from diagnostic measures among children with ASD. Methods: Data were obtained from eight sources comprising 27 sites. Linear mixed‐effects models, including a random effect for site, were fit for 10 outcomes (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule [ADOS] domain‐level calibrated severity scores, Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised [ADI‐R] raw scores by age‐based algorithm, and raw scores from the two indices on the Social Responsiveness Scale [SRS]). Sex was added to the models after controlling for age, NVIQ, and an indicator for language level. Results: Sex significantly improved model fit for half of the outcomes, but least square mean differences were generally negligible (effect sizes [ES] < 0.20), increasing to small to moderate in adolescence (ES < 0.40). Boys received more severe RRB scores than girls on both the ADOS and ADI‐R (age 4 + algorithm), and girls received more severe scores than boys on both SRS indices, which emerged in adolescence. Conclusions: This study combined several available databases to create the largest sample of girls with ASD diagnoses. We found minimal differences due to sex beyond other known influences on ASD severity indicators. This may suggest that, among children who ultimately receive a clinical ASD diagnosis, severity estimates do not systematically differ to such an extent that sex‐specific scoring procedures would be necessary. However, given the limitations inherent in clinically ascertained samples, future research must address questions about systematic sex differences among children or adults who do not receive clinical diagnoses of ASD. Moreover, while the current study helps resolve questions about widely used diagnostic instruments, we could not address sex differences in phenotypic aspects outside of these scores. Discrepancy in perception of bullying experiences may lead to later internalizing or externalizing behavior in adolescents. A 1,663 South Korean 7th and 8th graders (mean age: 13.1 and 14.1 years old), were seen for a follow-up study to examine the relationships between the discrepancy in perception of their bullying experiences (defined as discrepancy between self- and peer-reports of bullying experiences) and internalizing or externalizing behavior at follow-up. Bullying was assessed by self- and peer-report. The discrepancy in perception of bullying experiences was defined by the concordance or discordance between self- and peer-reports. Internalizing and externalizing behavior was evaluated using the Youth Self Report and Child Behavior Checklist, at baseline and follow-up. Two by two ANCOVA was performed with a factorial design, categorizing discrepancy in perception of bullying experiences based on the agreement between self-report and peer-report. Internalizing/externalizing behavior-at-follow-up was used as an outcome, adjusting for other known risk factors for internalizing/externalizing behavior, including baseline internalizing/externalizing behavior, and bullying experiences. Adolescents with perceptions of bullying experiences discrepant from peer-reports showed increased internalizing/externalizing behavior at follow-up. Bullying also stands out as an independent risk factor for the development of future externalizing behavior even among adolescents with accurate perceptions of bullying experiences. The Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) is an autism rating scales in widespread use, with over 20 official foreign language translations. It has proven highly feasible for quantitative ascertainment of autistic social impairment in public health settings, however, little is known about the validity of the reinforcement in Asia populations or in references to DSM5. The current study aims to evaluate psychometric properties and cross-cultural aspects of the SRS-Korean version (K-SRS).The study subjects were ascertained from three samples: a general sample from 3 regular education elementary schools (n=790), a clinical sample (n=154) of 6-12-year-olds from four psychiatric clinics, and an epidemiological sample of children with ASD, diagnosed using both DSM IV PDD, DSM5 ASD and SCD criteria (n=151). Their parents completed the K-SRS and the Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire(ASSQ). Descriptive statistics, correlation analyses and principal components analysis (PCA) were performed on the total population. Mean total scores on the K-SRS differed significantly between the three samples. ASSQ scores were significantly correlated with the K-SRS T-scores. PCA suggested a one-factor solution for the total population.Our results indicate that the K-SRS exhibits adequate reliability and validity for measuring ASD symptoms in Korean children with DSM IV PDD and DSM5 ASD. Our findings further suggest that it is difficult to distinguish SCD from other child psychiatric conditions using the K-SRS.This is the first study to examine the relationship between the SRS subscales and DSM5-based clinical diagnoses. This study provides cross-cultural confirmation of the factor structure for ASD symptoms and traits measured by the SRS. We provide a systematic review of epidemiological surveys of autistic disorder and pervasive developmental disorders ( PDDs) worldwide. A secondary aim was to consider the possible impact of geographic, cultural/ethnic, and socioeconomic factors on prevalence estimates and on clinical presentation of PDD. Based on the evidence reviewed, the median of prevalence estimates of autism spectrum disorders was 62/10 000. While existing estimates are variable, the evidence reviewed does not support differences in PDD prevalence by geographic region nor of a strong impact of ethnic/cultural or socioeconomic factors. However, power to detect such effects is seriously limited in existing data sets, particularly in low-income countries. While it is clear that prevalence estimates have increased over time and these vary in different neighboring and distant regions, these findings most likely represent broadening of the diagnostic concets, diagnostic switching from other developmental disabilities to PDD, service availability, and awareness of autistic spectrum disorders in both the lay and professional public. The lack of evidence from the majority of the world's population suggests a critical need for further research and capacity building in low- and middle-income countries. Adenine nucleotide translocase (ANT) is a crucial component in the maintenance of cellular energy homeostasis, as well as in the formation of the mitochondrial permeability transition pores. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating the expression of the ANT gene are poorly understood. In this study, we have identified three DNA replication-related elements (DRE; 5′-TATCGATA) in the 5′-flanking region of the Drosophila ANT ( dANT) gene. Gel-mobility shift analyses revealed that all three of the DREs were recognized by the DRE-binding factor (DREF). The site-directed mutagenesis of these DRE sites induces a considerable reduction in the activity of the dANT gene promoter in vitro. Analyses with transgenic flies harboring a dANT-lacZ fusion gene bearing the wild-type or mutant DRE sites showed that the DRE sites were required for the expression of dANT in vivo. We determined that the over-expression or knockdown of DREF exerts a regulatory effect on the activity of the dANT promoter. In addition, we observed the collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential in the eye imaginal discs in which DREF was over-expressed. These results show that DRE/DREF is a crucial regulator of dANT gene expression, and also suggest the possibility that cross-talk may occur between the DRE/DREF system and mitochondrial functioning. Transparent heaters can be fabricated with a wide variety of materials including indium‐tin oxide, carbon nano tubes, graphenes, metal nanowires, metal grids, and hybrid‐type electrodes. However these materials have been applied to small area heaters below 0.01 m2 because of the limit of electrical and optical properties. High‐performance transparent electrodes for large‐area purpose (over 1.0 m2) have never been developed with any practical applicability in spite of their utility for removing fog or iced water on automobile windshield, which can be critical for safety and convenience of the drivers. Achieving ultralow resistance with high transparence is the major technical barrier in windshield heaters due to the intrinsic long distance between electrodes and low battery voltage in automobiles. In this study, a high performance transparent electrode, super hybrid electrode (SHE) is developed, which is manufactured by combining metal grids with oxide/metal/oxide electrode based on a newly developed electroplating method, which guarantees uniform properties over large area, over 1.0 m2. Utilizing this newly devised electrode technology, an automobile windshield heater is successfully fabricated with sheet resistance of 0.1–0.3 Ω □−1 and the transmittance of over 82% in large area samples of 1.01 m2, which is good enough for automobile windshield application. Age-associated changes in stem cell populations have been implicated in age-related diseases, including cancer. However, little is known about the underlying molecular mechanisms that link aging to the modulation of adult stem cell populations. Drosophila midgut is an excellent model system for the study of stem cell renewal and aging. Here we describe an age-related increase in the number and activity of intestinal stem cells (ISCs) and progenitor cells in Drosophila midgut. We determined that oxidative stress, induced by paraquat treatment or loss of catalase function, mimicked the changes associated with aging in the midgut. Furthermore, we discovered an age-related increase in the expression of PVF2, a Drosophila homologue of human PDGF/VEGF, which was associated with and required for the age-related changes in midgut ISCs and progenitor cell populations. Taken together, our findings suggest that PDGF/VEGF may play a central role in age-related changes in ISCs and progenitor cell populations, which may contribute to aging and the development of cancer stem cells.

The dopamine (DA) system has been implicated in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) based on pharmacologic evidence. Because of an interaction between the serotonin (5-HT) and DA systems, the serotonin transporter gene (SLC6A4) has been considered as a candidate ADHD susceptibility gene. Two common polymorphisms, 5-HTTLPR and the intron 2 VNTR, have been studied for association in ADHD, with both positive (increased frequency of long allele of 5-HTTLPR and decreased frequency of 12 repeats of the intron 2 VNTR) and negative findings. However, there has not been an association study in an East Asian ADHD population. In this study, we examined the genotypes of these two polymorphisms in 126 Korean ADHD families and investigated linkage disequilibrium (LD) between SLC6A4 and ADHD, using the transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) and haplotype analysis. Additionally, association with quantitative measures of inattention, hyperactivity-impulsivity, and overall severity was tested using logistic regression and QTDT analysis. TDT of both polymorphisms and haplotype analysis failed to detect LD. However, after excluding ADHD NOS subtype, TDT revealed nominally significant LD between 5-HTTLPR and ADHD (chi2 = 4.9, P = 0.036). QTDT revealed positive association between 12 repeats of the intron 2 VNTR and attention (P = 0.031), but case-control and TDT logistic regression analyses were negative. These markers have low heterozygosity in the Korean population, which would be expected to reduce the power of association. This result suggests that future studies should include more polymorphic markers and subjects to thoroughly investigate a potential association between SLC6A4 and ADHD in the Korean population., ((c) 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc.)
