Recently, semiconductor nanomaterials have gained interest amongst researchers because of their good electrocatalytic properties. Two dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide materials, NiSe2 have good physical, chemical, and transport properties for sensing applications. The present work demonstrates the fabrication of NiSe2‐graphene oxide (NiSe2−GO) modified glassy carbon electrode for the determination of carbamazepine (CBZ). The prepared nanocomposite was characterized by XRD, SEM and FT‐IR spectral methods. CBZ exhibited an irreversible oxidation peak at 0.85 V on NiSe2−GO/GCE in phosphate buffer of pH 7.0. A 54‐fold enhancement in oxidation peak current was observed at NiSe2−GO/GCE when compared to that at bare GCE. Sensing performance of NiSe2−GO/GCE was optimized by varying peak current dependent parameters. Linear relationship between the peak current and concentration of CBZ was observed in the range of 4.50×10−8–3.22×10−5 mol L−1 for differential pulse voltammetric method and 2.32×10−8–4.79×10−5 mol L−1 for square wave voltammetric method. The practical utility of the proposed sensor, was demonstrated by determining CBZ in pharmaceutical formulations and spiked urine samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The incorporation of the different functions of a biological nervous system into electronic devices is challenging in the realization of humanoid robotics, which can recognize and respond in a manner that is similar to humans. Emerging synaptic devices that can process electronic signals by neuromorphic functions that operate in a similar manner to that of biological nervous systems. In this study, an acid‐sensitive artificial nociceptor device, which simultaneously detects acid concentration and generates synaptic signals, is developed for electronic nose application. The transition metal oxide (WO3)‐based device electrochemically performs neuromorphic sulfuric acid (H2SO4) sensing. The current–voltage curves demonstrate loop opening, with the change in the molarity of the acid, indicating memory storage ability and tunability of the developed nociceptor device. In this work, we report the fabrication of copper sulfide (CuS, Cu1.39S, and Cu2S) thin films with tunable localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). The thin films were synthesized by keeping the Cu precursor concentration constant and varying that of sodium thiosulfate, which dictated the final CuxS product. CuS showed the highest intensity LSPR peak and its intensity decreased with the increasing incorporation of Cu, as in the case of Cu1.39S, and vanished for the Cu‐rich Cu2S, indicating carrier concentration‐dependent plasmonic absorption. The shift in the XRD peak positions towards a lower degree and the increase in the d‐spacing values for CuS indicated the intercalation of Cu species in the initial covellite lattice, yielding Cu1.39S and Cu2S in the process. XPS valence band edge studies revealed that among the synthesized CuxS thin films, CuS showed a stronger p‐type as compared to Cu1.39S and Cu2S. The synthesis of CuxS thin films of different phases requires a precise adjustment of the experimental conditions. Here, we report a facile method for the fabrication of CuxS thin films with tunable LSPR. The covellite CuS thin films exhibited a well‐defined LSPR absorption peak in NIR region. For Cu1.39S the intensity of LSPR peak decreased due to the increase in Cu content. The copper rich Cu2S exhibited a very faint NIR absorption peak. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present work, the electrochemical behavior of an antimigraine drug, almotriptan malate (ALM), on a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) film modified glassy carbon electrode under cyclic voltammetry was described for the first time. A significant enhancement in the oxidation peak current of ALM was noticed at MWCNT-GCE. This property was exploited to develop a simple, sensitive and time-saving differential pulse voltammetric method for the determination of ALM in bulk and pharmaceutical samples. A linear relationship was observed between concentration and peak current with a correlation coefficient of 0.9915 in the range of 0.25-37.5 µM ALM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
