Background and purpose Method Results Conclusions This study aims to examine the global, regional, and national burden of ischemic stroke from 1990 to 2021.We used data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 database to comprehensively assess ischemic stroke indicators globally, regionally, and in 204 countries, including incidence, deaths, disability‐adjusted life years (DALYs), estimated annual percentage change (EAPC), and Joinpoint regression analysis.In 2021, there were a total of 7,804,449 cases of ischemic stroke globally (95% uncertainty interval = 6,719,760–8,943,692), with an age‐standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of 92.39. This represents a declining trend compared to 1990, with an EAPC of −0.67 (95% confidence interval [CI] = −0.76 to −0.58). Mortality and DALY rates also showed a downward trend (EAPC in age‐standardized mortality rate: −1.83, 95% CI = −1.92 to −1.74; EAPC in age‐standardized DALY rate = −1.59, 95% CI = −1.68 to −1.50). The burden of ischemic stroke was inversely correlated with gross domestic product. Regionally, from 2014 to 2021, the Caribbean experienced the fastest increase in ASIR (annual percent change = 0.15, 95% CI = 0.13 to 0.18). Among 204 countries, North Macedonia had the highest incidence, mortality, and DALY rates. In addition to metabolic risks, particulate matter pollution and low temperatures were significant environmental and occupational risk factors for ischemic stroke. Smoking and a diet high in sodium were identified as key behavioral risk factors.Ischemic stroke remains a serious global health challenge, and our results from this cross‐sectional study suggest that the burden of disease remains high in Eastern Europe, East Asia, Central Asia, and Sub‐Saharan Africa. The development of ultrasonic‐guided wave sensors is of great significance for structural health monitoring (SHM). In this work, a shear horizontal (SH) ultrasonic guided wave sensor based on the Ca3TaGa3Si2O14 (CTGS) piezoelectric single crystal is demonstrated. The findings reveal that the CTGS‐based ultrasonic guided wave sensor is proficient in transmitting and receiving pure fundamental SH wave (SH0 wave) along two orthogonal main directions (0° and 90°) over a wide frequency range (100–350 kHz), exhibiting strong response to the SH0 wave. Under the driving voltage of 100 V, the peak‐to‐peak values of the sensor output are 110.8 and 8.0 mV at room temperature and high temperature of 600 °C, respectively. Additionally, the signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) of the CTGS‐based SH0 sensor is evaluated to be >18.9 dB even at the elevated temperature of 600 °C. Moreover, the CTGS‐based SH0 sensor showcases its reasonable defect localization ability at temperatures up to 600 °C, demonstrating its great potential for application in the high temperature in‐situ SHM. To ensure the uniformity of display image quality, it's necessary to gamma‐tuning, which is particularly time‐consuming, resulting in lower production efficiency. In order to reduce gamma TT (Tack Time), this paper proposes a novel AI model for predicting gamma. The study shows that TT 20% can be saved by using the prediction results as the initial value of gamma‐tuning, and TT can be saved by about 70% by writing the prediction results directly to the register. Background and purpose: Ischemic stroke, a major contributor to global disability and mortality, is underpinned by intricate pathophysiological mechanisms, notably neuroinflammation and immune cell dynamics. Prior research has identified a nuanced and often paradoxical link between immune cell phenotypes and ischemic stroke susceptibility. The aim of this study was to elucidate the potential causal links between the median fluorescence intensity (MFI) and morphological parameters (MP) of 731 immune cell types and ischemic stroke risk. Methods: By analyzing extensive genetic datasets, we conducted comprehensive Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to discern the genetic correlations between diverse immune cell attributes (MFI and MP) and ischemic stroke risk. Results: Our study identified key immune cell signatures linked to ischemic stroke risk. Both B cells and T cells, among other immune cell types, have a bidirectional influence on stroke risk. Notably, the regulatory T‐cell phenotype demonstrates significant neuroprotective properties, with all odds ratio (OR) values and confidence intervals (CIs) being less than 1. Furthermore, CD39 phenotype immune cells, particularly CD39+ CD8+ T cells (inverse variance weighting [IVW] OR 0.92, 95% CI 0.87–0.97; p = 0.002) and CD39+ activated CD4 regulatory T cells (IVW OR 0.93, 95% CI 0.90–0.97; p < 0.001), show notable neuroprotection against ischemic stroke. Conclusion: This investigation provides new genetic insights into the interplay between various immune cells and ischemic stroke, underscoring the complex role of immune processes in stroke pathogenesis. These findings lay a foundation for future research, which may confirm and expand upon these links, potentially leading to innovative immune‐targeted therapies for stroke prevention and management. To ensure the uniformity of panel image quality, it is necessary to gamma correct the normal and FDC（full display camera） regions of the panel, but the gamma TT（tack time） is particularly long, especially the FDC takes about 110 seconds, resulting in lower production efficiency. Currently, the FDC correction algorithm uses the gamma value of the previous panel as the initial value, and its average error is about 60, and the error is large. To reduce the FDC gamma TT, this paper proposes a new algorithm based on CNN, which inputs normal gamma and predicts FDC gamma. The predicted results are taken as the starting value of the gamma in the FDC region, the starting value error is small and the FDC gamma TT is greatly shortened. Experimental results show that compared with the existing algorithm, the accuracy of the initial value of the FDC region is increased by 10 times. FDC gamma TT was reduced by about 3.5 times. Considering the excessively high onset potential on pure Ni catalyst and the generation of gaseous products in carbohydrazide (CHZ) electrooxidation, a self‐supporting and shell‐core Pd−Ni@Ni nanowire arrays (NAs) catalytic electrode is prepared by the first templating electrodeposition of Ni and the subsequent galvanic replacement of Pd. The introduction of Pd with minute mass loadings of 2.7–5.3 μg cm−2 enables a negative shift of onset potential of CHZ electrooxidation by 320 mV regardless of Ni supports. Pd in Ni@Pd−Ni NAs electrode can facilitate the chemical dissociation of CHZ into N2H4 and/or H2 and then provoke the occurrence of side reactions, i. e. N2H4 and/or H2 electrooxidation. Cationic polymers are under intense research to achieve prominent antimicrobial activity. However, the cellular and in vivo toxicity caused by nonspecific electrostatic interaction has become a major challenge for their practical applications. Here, the development of a "caging" strategy based on the use of a block copolymer consisting of a stealth block and an anionic block that undergoes degradation in presence of enzymes secreted by selective bacterial pathogens of interest is reported. The results have shown that antimicrobial cationic polymer brushes‐coated gold nanorods (AuNRs) can be caged by the block polymer of poly(ethylene glycol) and anionic, lipase‐degradable block of ε‐caprolactone and methacrylic acid copolymer to afford neutrally charged surfaces. The caged AuNRs are activated by lipase released by bacteria of interest to endow an excellent bactericidal effect but show minimal binding and toxicity against mammalian cells and nonspecific bacteria that do not produce lipase. In this design, AuNRs play multifunctional roles as the scaffolds for polymer brushes, photothermal transducers, and imaging probes for traceable delivery of the activation and delivery of bactericidal cationic polymer brushes. This paper achieves the purpose of reducing power consumption by partitioning the driver chip in AOD mode. For non‐display areas, the Source op amp circuit of the driver chip and non‐related data processing functions are turned off to optimize power consumption. For the multi‐area display scenario in AOD mode, no matter where the black background is, this design can automatically recognize the black background and carry out power‐saving actions. Developing non‐precious metal catalysts towards hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is of both high scientific and technical importance for the widespread application of water electrolysis. Herein, Ni2P nanoparticles coated with a ultrathin N‐doped carbon shell were prepared as a highly efficient HER catalyst. Ni2P@CN exhibits both enhanced catalytic activity and durability in comparison with the carbon‐supported Ni2P counterpart, and represents 100% faradaic yield for HER in an acidic medium. The improved charge transfer of N‐doped graphitic carbon shells contributes to the increase in activity. Meanwhile, the carbon shells suppress the aggregation and exfoliation of Ni2P nanoparticles. As a result, the synergistic role of the N‐doped carbon layer confers the Ni2P cores with boosted activity and stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Botanical pesticides play an important role in organic agricultural practices and are widely used in integrated pest management (IPM). Uvaria grandiflora was mainly reported as traditional medicines and possessed antibacterial, antioxidant, and antiprotozoal activities. Therefore, important biological activities of U. grandiflora may suggest that they have the potential to be used as botanical pesticides. RESULTS: The extract of U. grandiflora exhibited broad‐spectrum inhibitory activity toward phytopathogenic fungi and oomycetes, particularly against Colletotrichum musae and Phytophthora capsici, and its secondary metabolite zeylenone also displayed strong antifungal and anti‐oomycete activities against phytopathogens. Particularly, half maximal effective concentration (EC50) values of zeylenone against Phytophthora capsici and C. musae were 6.98 and 3.37 μg mL−1, showing better inhibitory effects than those of commercial fungicides (azoxystrobin and osthole). Additionally, the pot experiments showed that the extract of U. grandiflora could effectively control Pseudoperonospora cubensis, Phytophthora infestans, Phytophthora capsici and Podosphaera xanthii. In the field experiment, 5% microemulsion of U. grandiflora extract exhibited 79.72% efficacy against cucumber powdery mildew at 87.5 g ha−1 on the 14th day after two sprayings, which was better than that of 21.5% trifloxystrobin and 21.5% fluopyram SC at 200.9 g ha−1. Surprisingly, 5% microemulsion of U. grandiflora extract could promote cucumber growth significantly. Furthermore, the action mechanism analysis indicated that zeylenone may damage the cytoderm and affect energy metabolism of Phytophthora capsici. CONCLUSION: It is the first time that the extract of U. grandiflora and zeylenone have been discovered leading to broad application prospects in the development as botanical fungicides. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is a life‐threatening pathogen associated with multiantibiotic resistance, which is largely caused by its strong ability to form biofilms. Recent research has revealed that gallium (III) shows an activity against the biofilm of P. aeruginosa by interfering with Fe metabolism. The antibacterial activity of the combination of Ga3+ ion and antibiotic rifampicin (RMP) against P. aeruginosa PAO1 is investigated. An anionic polymer poly{{2‐[(2‐methylprop‐2‐enoyl)oxy]ethyl}phosphonic acid} (PDMPOH) is exploited to form complexes (GaPD) with Ga3+. The GaPD complexes act as a carrier of Ga3+ and release Ga3+ via enzymatic degradation by bacterial lipases. GaPD is found to damage the outer membrane, leading to enhanced cellular uptake of RMP and Ga3+ due to increased outer membrane permeability, which inhibits the RNA polymerase and interferes with Fe metabolism. The antibiofilm activity and biocompatibility of the GaPD system offer a promising treatment option for P. aeruginosa biofilm‐related infections. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report a new strategy for the fabrication of Ag–Au bimetallic nanowire (NW) arrays by taking advantage of interfacial assembly of plasmonic nanoparticles and galvanic replacement reactions. Galvanic replacement reactions led to the formation of nanospikes on NWs, giving rise to a high density of hotspots across the entire NW array. We employed this NW array as a surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy [SERS]) substrate for the detection of two types of food contaminants: thiram (a pesticide) and melamine (an adulterant). Limits of detection (LODs) of 1 and 10 nM were achieved for thiram in juice samples and melamine in milk samples, respectively. Both LODs are lower than the maximum acceptable concentrations imposed by the US government. The results demonstrate tremendous practical potential of Ag–Au NW arrays as surface‐enhanced Raman scattering substrates for the detection of food contaminants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multiscale structures are found in nature to impart brilliant structural colors with integrated properties of multiple optical elements. However, it remains challenging to build more than one optical element into artificial photonic materials in practical manufacturing. Here, hierarchical disordered photonic superstructures (HDPSs) with optical properties arising from tailored interplay of thin‐film interference (TFI) and coherent scattering from amorphous colloidal arrays (ACAs) are fabricated through the combined use of infiltration‐driven colloidal assembly and micro‐imprinting. Uniform thin ACA films with TFI effects (ACA‐TFIs) are first coated on premium glossy photo papers, displaying near‐isotropic colors under natural light and mixed colors upon specular lighting due to the duplex optical effects. Such collective effects are easily modulated by the film thicknesses of ACA‐TFIs. Also, micro‐imprinting that can remove a patterned monolayer of particles from ACA‐TFI films causes suppressed TFI in the imprinted regions, leading to HDPS films with encoded optical features. Collectively, HDPS anti‐counterfeiting labels with covert and sophisticated optical coding are achieved and their enhanced complexity results in infinite possible optical features that are virtually impractical to forge, opening new avenues to high‐level security applications. Lyophobic membrane has the potential to separate immiscible liquids. However, the multistep fabrication and limited option of materials have created major challenges for their practical application. Here, a strategy to fabricate superlyophobic materials is presented by using polydopamine (PDA) as an intermediate coating. The results demonstrate that PDA nanoparticles deposited on diverse substrates can direct the subsequent formation of polysiloxane microsheets (PSMSs), which increases surface roughness and results in superlyophobicity towards high surface tension (ST) liquids and superlyophilicity to liquids with ST of 33 mN m‐1 and below. Superlyophobic membranes fabricated from stainless steel mesh, cotton fabric, and filter papers show high efficiency for continuous separations of chloroform/water (>96%) and carbon tetrachloride/formamide (>97%). In addition, superlyophobic melamine foam and polyurethane foam can absorb various low ST liquids with capacities ranging from 53 to 120 g g‐1 and from 26.5 to 52.5 g g‐1, respectively, revealing the efficient separation of a broad range of immiscible liquids. All of the as‐prepared superlyophobic materials show excellent regeneration with insignificant change of separation efficiency over 10 cycles. The preparation route for superlyophobic materials in this work introduces a new strategy for the separation of immiscible liquids by both batch absorption and continuous filtration treatment. Solar irradiation is a promising resource for sustainable energy conversion and storage in many technological fields. Interfacial solar steam generator is emerging as a sustainable system for water harvesting under natural solar irradiance. However, natural sunlight is usually insufficient for conventional interfacial (2D absorber) solar steam generators to achieve high solar steam efficiency (>85%). Herein, a functionalized MXene‐polymeric membrane‐based solar steam generator in a heat localization structure is reported as an efficient water harvesting and desalination system. The functionalized MXene flakes are homogeneously dispersed and encapsulated in polymeric networks of cellulose acetate in the crosslinking process, where water is automatically pumped through the absorber in the embedded nano/micro channels. As such, the fabricated solar steam generator shows a net evaporation rate (with respect to that in the dark condition) of 1.47 kg m−2 h−1 with 92.1% efficiency under 1 sun illumination. Moreover, the salt rejection rate for high salinity seawater (original Na+ concentration is 18 000 mg L−1) reaches up to 97.5%, generating drinkable water that meets the WHO standard. The new photothermal membrane absorber is cost‐effective, scalable, washable, and stable under harsh conditions; holding great promise for practical solar desalination applications. Abstract: BACKGROUND: Toxic metals may accumulate within organisms and inevitably threaten humans and ecosystems, through the food chain. Thus, developing effective and cheap ways to control and remediate toxic metal pollution in soil is a considerable challenge to research and application. This preliminary study illustrates how a solid phase microbial fuel cell (SMFC) can drive the in situ electrokinetic (EK) remediation of toxic metal‐contaminated soil. RESULTS: SMFCs with different concentrations of wheat straw, using several configurations, were tested and compared. SMFCs were used to drive the electromigration of Pb and Zn in contaminated soil, and the removal efficiency of these SMFCs gradually increased with the straw ratio. After operating for 100 days, the removal efficiencies for Pb and Zn were 37.2% and 15.1%, respectively, in the anode region of the SMFC with 3% straw. The Pb and Zn fractions were analyzed after the SMFC treatments using a sequential extraction method. The different distributions of the fractions of Pb and Zn in the soil led to variations in removal efficiency. CONCLUSIONS: Compared with the use of traditional EK remediation, use of SMFC‐driven EK remediation technology in soil could reduce energy input, reuse biomass energy and reduce the risk of toxic metal leaching into groundwater. For the first time, a crystalline-amorphous double-layered NiO x film has been prepared by reactive radio frequency magnetron sputtering. This film has exhibited improved electrochemical cycling durability, whereas other electrochromic parameters have been maintained at the required level, namely, a short coloration/bleaching time (0.8 s/1.1 s) and an enhanced transmittance modulation range (62.2 %) at λ=550 nm. Cortical spreading depression ( CSD), based on its similarities with peri-infarct depolarization, is an ideal model for investigating transformation from the ischemic penumbra to infarct core. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. To our knowledge, this is the first study to use a middle cerebral artery occlusion ischemic-reperfusion (I/R) injury model to determine whether AMP-activated protein kinase ( AMPK)-dependent autophagy contributes to the neuroprotection of CSD preconditioning in rat cortex. In this study, we topically applied a pledget soaked in 1 mol/L KCl solution on rat cortex for 2 h to elicite CSD or 1 mol/L NaCl solution as a control. The results demonstrated that CSD preconditioning significantly decreased the infarct volume, neurological deficits and neuronal apoptosis in the cortical penumbra of middle cerebral artery occlusion rats, which was inhibited by the autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine (3- MA, 200 nmol). Furthermore, CSD increased the protein levels of the autophagy markers LC3- II, Beclin-1 and the p- AMPK (Thr172)/ AMPK ratio at 12 h and decreased P62 and p-P70S6K (Thr389). Moreover, the AMPK inhibitor Compound C (20 mg/kg) down-regulated the LC3- II, p- AMPK (Thr172)/ AMPK and ULK1 levels, up-regulated the P62 and p-P70S6K (Thr389) levels induced by CSD. The neuroprotection of CSD is likely a result of AMPK-mediated autophagy activity and autophagy-induced neuronal cells apoptosis inhibition. In this paper, three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) films were electropolymerized from an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([Bmim]PF6). The electrochromic performances of the 3DOM PEDOT films were studied. The 3DOM films exhibited high transmittance modulation (41.2 % at λ=580 nm), high ionic fast switching speeds (0.7 and 0.7 s for coloration and bleaching, respectively), and enhanced cycling stability relative to that exhibited by the dense PEDOT film. The relationship between the declining behavior of the transmittance modulation and the nanostructure of the film was investigated. A three-period decay process was proposed to understand the declining behavior. The 3D interconnected macroporous nanostructure is beneficial for fast ion and electron transportation, high ion accessibility, and maintenance of structure integrity, which result in enhanced cycling stability and fast switching speeds. Chemotherapy resistance remains a large obstacle to successful clinical cancer therapy, mainly due to little accumulation and low sensitivity of drugs and the effective clinical strategy still lacks. Herein, a novel yet simple strategy to combat cancer drug resistance using the plasmonic feature-based photothermal properties is reported. Rather than directly killing cancer cells using nanoparticle-mediated hyperthermia, for the first time, localized plasmonic heating of gold nanorod at a mild laser power density can modulate the drug-resistance related genes. This photothermal effect triggers higher expression of heat shock factor (HSF-1) trimers and depresses the expression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) and mutant p53. In turn, both drug accumulation in the breast cancer resistant cells (MCF-7/ADR) and their sensitiveness to drugs can be greatly enhanced. Amorphous photonic structures (APSs) with isotropic structural colors are of great promise for creating reflective full‐color displays or responsive colorimetric devices. However, there is a lack of guiding principles in developing stimuli‐responsive functional APSs, and the building blocks of APSs are still limited to spherical particles despite the increasing emergence of anisotropic functional particles. Moreover, current production of APSs, in particular high‐resolution APS patterns, is not fundamentally compatible with industrial manufacturing technologies, forming a major barrier toward their applications. Presented here is a proof‐of‐concept study on scalable fabrication of responsive APSs by colloidal assembly of spherical/polyhedral metal‐organic framework (MOF) particles on liquid‐permeable substrates. It is shown that infiltration assisted Mayer rod coating allows for rapid production of customized multicolored structural color patterns of MOF APSs by controlling liquid wetting/infiltration on the substrate with printed wax coatings. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering and optical measurements reveal the structural parameters of MOF APSs such as average nearest interscattering spacing and particle packing density, theoretically relating the optical properties and responsive color shifts of MOF APSs to factors affecting their scattering profile, which provides the guideline for the development of smart APS photonic devices via a wide spectrum of colloidal particles for diverse applications. A three dimensionally ordered macroporous film of poly(3,4 ‐ ethylenedioxythiophene) (3DOM PEDOT) has been electropolymerized from an ionic liquid, 1 ‐ butyl ‐ 3 ‐ methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate. Bragg diffraction of the highly ordered microstructure shows full ‐ color light reflection, and the color changes with a slight change in the angle of incident white light.
