Conventional flip‐flops are more vulnerable to particle strikes in a radiation environment. To overcome this disadvantage, in the literature, many radiation‐hardened flip‐flops (FFs) based on techniques like triple modular redundancy, dual interlocked cell, Quatro and guard‐gated Quatro cell, and so on, are discussed. The flip‐flop realized using radiation hardened by design Quatro cell is named as the improved version of Quatro flip‐flop (IVQFF). Single event upset (SEU) at inverter stages of master/slave and at output are the two drawbacks of IVQFF. This study proposes a guard‐gated Quatro FF (GQFF) using guard‐gated Quatro cell and Muller C‐element. To overcome the SEU at inverter stages of IVQFF, in GQFF, the inverter stages are realized in a parallel fashion. A dual‐input Muller C‐element is connected to the GQFF output stage to mask the SEU and thus maintain the correct output. The proposed GQFF tolerates both single node upset (SNU) and double node upset (DNU). It also achieves low power. To prove the efficacy, GQFF and the existing FFs are implemented in 45 nm Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The paper represents a comprehensive review of the wind farm layout and reliability assessment of the wind farm integrated electrical power system. The authors have done a review on the proliferation of renewable energy which raises the uncertainties in the electrical power system. The uncertainties including wind speed and wake effect are important to deal with when an isolated microgrid is considered. The scenario becomes vigilant when the wind farms are integrated with the main grid. Due to uncertainties, the study of reliability evaluation of a wind integrated power system would become significant to analyse the electrical power system behaviour effectively. So, the paper discusses the layout optimisation methods of wind turbines considering the uncertainty parameters, mainly the wake effect. In this regard, the different wake models and optimisation methods based on a single‐objective and multi‐objective functions are reviewed in detail with the proper comparisons. The paper serves as a better illustration of the competency of these optimisation methods on the optimal wind turbine location on a wind farm. Furthermore, the paper extends the view on the reliability and cost assessment, and reliability improvement techniques of the wind integrated power system. This article provides comprehensive information, yields an attractive and subsequent tool for research requirements for the researchers to design the wind farm layout, and assessed the reliability of a wind integrated power system. Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Systems play a vital role in energizing microelectronic devices with the low‐frequency operation. Here, a novel piezoelectric energy harvesting device has been developed for low power electronic devices. The developed Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Systems consists of a cantilever with poles projecting outwards and the cantilevers one end is connected to the wind‐catcher, and another end is connected to the torsional spring. The developed Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Systems signifies its application in energizing microelectronic devices. The cantilever is placed inwards to the piezoelectric crystal stack. When the wind strikes, a vortex is created in the windcatcher, which oscillates the cantilever and generates stress in the piezoelectric crystal stack to develop electric energy. The output voltage obtained from the Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Systems does not affect any input frequency of the piezoelectric crystal. The result obtained shows that the developed Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Systems generates 120–200 eV with 2.9 × 1016–4.84 × 1016 Hz frequency considering an elementary charge unit as 40 for a variable wind flow of 4–9 m/s. Battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are being presented as a prominent solution to the various imminent issues associated with the integration of variable renewable energy sources in the distribution system. Performance of grid‐connected BESS depends on the type of application (power and energy), grid operating parameters and level of interconnection point, which shows the necessity of benefit assessment of BESS technology and its applications in terms of economic and grid operations before investment at a larger scale. In this study, real‐time analysis and evaluation of two different battery technologies connected in a medium voltage (MV) distribution system are carried out. The main objective of this paper is focused on the impact analysis of large‐scale BESS on MV distribution feeder. A real case of installation of lithium‐ion and advanced lead‐acid battery systems into the Indian distribution system has been considered for this study. Different operational strategies of BESS such as frequency regulation and energy time‐shift have been performed with real‐time data. The effectiveness in usage of BESS with these functionalities has been verified in terms of peak shaving, improvement in voltage profile and reduction in power losses in the feeder. This study introduces a type of solid‐state transformer (SST) for solar power station design and an energy management strategy (EMS) for the SST. The purpose of this study is to design a real efficient EMS for the photovoltaic‐assisted charging station in smart grid ancillary services and apply the optimal decision method. Also, the energy bound calculation (EBC) model is proposed to find the upper and lower bounds of flexible sources. Also, taking into account the EBC results and the power order from the aggregator, a charge power allocation algorithm is designed to distribute the power of flexible electric vehicles (EVs). With the help of a case study and laboratory analysis, the proposed EMS strategy is effective in real‐time energy management and is suitable for practical applications. The obtained results show the stable performance in the calculation of the energy range and real‐time power allocation which improves the efficiency of the photovoltaic‐based charging station. In this study, a particle swarm optimisation (PSO) augmented internet of things (IOT)‐based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for solar photovoltaic (PV) system has been proposed. A modified DC–DC ZETA converter is used as an interface between solar PV and DC load. The duty cycle of the converter is continuously modulated for harvesting maximum power using PSO‐IOT algorithm employing Arduino and Bluetooth system. IOT‐based control system provides monitoring and compiling of PV reference voltage for MPPT controller of the PV system. Further, the experimental results validate the improved performance of the proposed algorithm. A performance comparison is provided in order to prove the merit of proposed MPPT algorithm over existing techniques such as perturb and observe, PSO, ant colony optimisation, artificial bee colony. This study presents a comprehensive survey on the reliability evaluation of the electrical network system. The impacts of integration of new and renewable energy sources (electric vehicle, energy storage system, solar, and wind) on the reliability of electrical power system (EPS) are discussed. The impacts of these renewable sources have merits/demerits when these sources are integrated with the conventional electric power system. However, the merits are predominant as it includes unlimited, free, and cost-effective resources. The recent researches depict that the uncertainties of renewable energy resources leads to the probabilistic and reliability analyses of EPS. EPS includes offshore and onshore wind farms, micro-grid, energy storage system, and other high voltage grids. It also contains the failure-prone components related to the power systems. For the accomplishment of these aspects, the handling methods of uncertainty parameters in generation, transmission, and distribution systems are discussed. The incorporation of electric vehicles, wind energy system, and energy storage system for reliability assessment is also discussed briefly. Appropriate evaluation of the process performance of biogas plants needs to consider the anaerobic biodegradability of the used biomass. Anaerobic biodegradability is limited by lignin, which is part in most substrates and, by extension, in digestates of biogas plants. Previous research has shown that the content of acid detergent lignin (ADL) in digestates can be predicted from measured gross calorific values (GCVs). The correlation of GCV of 34 digestate samples to an alternative measure for lignin, the Klason lignin (KL), is evaluated as well as the correlation of KL content and other chemical constituents to residual biomethane potential (BMP). Results indicate a very low correlation of chemical composition to GCV and BMP. A correlation of GCV to BMP was not observable. The results let conclude that evaluation of anaerobic biodegradability of digestates by measuring KL or predicting KL from GCV is not productive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Readily available lignocellulosic biomass as substrate for biogas plants is gaining popularity amongst biogas plant operators. Results of low‐temperature pretreatment (light cooking) of wheat straw to remove waxes and prepare the biomass for microbial action are described. Benefits of light cooking are low thermal energy demand and low investment cost compared to conventional techniques such as steam explosion. The novelty lies in utilizing the low temperature range 25–100 °C for pre‐soaking the biomass. Two different types of wheat straws were pretreated at varying temperatures and sizes. The results were compared with Buswell's equation for theoretical maximum biomethane yield. Compared to untreated straw, pre‐soaking leads to a significantly higher methane yield. Size reduction combined with light‐cooking does not affect the methane yield in the same manner as pre‐soaking of the biomass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
