Allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a therapeutic procedure performed over a wide range of donor and recipient age combinations, representing natural experiments of how the age of the recipient affects aging in transplanted donor cells in vivo. We measured DNA methylation and epigenetic aging in donors and recipients and found that biological epigenetic clocks are accelerated in cells transplanted into an older body and decelerated in a younger body. Objectives: To investigate temporal changes in the association between SARS‐CoV2 viral load (VL) and markers of inflammation during hospitalization, as well as the ability of these markers alone or in combination to predict severe outcomes. Methods: Serial oropharyngeal and blood samples were obtained from hospitalized COVID‐19 patients (n = 160). Levels of inflammatory markers and oropharyngeal VL were measured during hospitalization (admission, days 3–5, and days 7–10) and related to severe outcomes (respiratory failure/intensive care unit admission). Results: Elevated admission levels of IL (interleukin)‐6, IL‐33, IL‐8, monocyte chemoattractant protein‐1 (MCP‐1), interferon‐γ‐induced protein 10 (IP‐10), IL‐1β, and IL‐1Ra were associated with severe outcomes during hospitalization. Although no inflammatory markers correlated with VL at baseline, there was a significant correlation between VL and levels of IP‐10 and MCP‐1 at days 3–5, accompanied by IL‐8 and IL‐6 at days 7–10. Finally, there was a seemingly additive effect of IP‐10, MCP‐1, and IL‐6 in predicting severe outcomes when combined with high VL at baseline. Conclusions: An increasing number of inflammatory markers were associated with VL during the first 10 days of hospitalization, and several of these markers were associated with severe outcomes, in particular when combined with elevated VL. Future studies should assess the potential for combining antiviral and immunomodulatory treatment, preferably guided by viral and inflammatory biomarkers, for the selection of high‐risk patients. Background: The rationale for screening for cardiovascular disease (CVD) is debated as a prevention strategy. However, research shows that when preventive medication is initiated after screening for CVD, mortality rates decrease, especially among men. When implementing screening programmes, facilitating citizens' informed decisions and empowering their autonomy in the decision‐making process are crucial. We therefore aimed to explore citizens' perspectives on and decisions regarding initiating cardiovascular preventive medication for screen‐detected CVD. Methods: We employed an exploratory qualitative design using semi‐structured interviews to investigate participants' perspectives on and decisions regarding initiating cardiovascular preventive medication for screen‐detected CVD. Twelve interviews were conducted and analysed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke's six‐step approach. Findings: We found one overall theme, Being on a continuum between wellness and illness, with two underlying sub‐themes. Sub‐theme (1) Navigating mixed feelings and pathways reflects participants' perspectives on CVD preventive medication, which were positioned on a continuum with shifting perspectives. The state between wellness and illness was experienced as liminal and characterised by uncertainty and concerns about CVD risk. (2) Navigating medication decisions: a negotiated process. Pivotal medical decisions hinged on trust in authorities or own judgement, influenced by attitudes towards the need for medication, perception of meaningfulness, asymptomatic condition, age, family responsibility and predisposition. Participants' medical decisions were supported and impacted by significant others. Conclusion: We uncovered a continuum of shifting perspectives ranging from feeling improved health to experiencing fear of CVD. For certain citizens, it is like navigating between these contrasting feelings. The perceived necessity and meaningfulness, in particular, shape medical decisions. Providing support for informed decisions is crucial and includes significant others. Shared decision‐making with healthcare professionals as facilitators is needed. The energy crisis of the 1970s sparked growing concern over minimizing fuel consumption in water, land, and air transportation. Researchers fascinated by sharks' effortless swimming abilities investigated shark skin denticles and uncovered functions beyond drag reduction, such as antifouling, protection, and bioluminescence. Over the past five decades, significant progress has been made in comprehending drag reduction and antifouling functions of denticle structures; however, the investigation of other functions remains limited. Recent discoveries of diverse denticle morphologies have ignited a keen interest in obtaining morphogroups that can aid other functional studies. This work integrates advances in antifouling, hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, bioluminescence, and protective functions to provide a holistic understanding of their diverse roles. Additionally, this work also dictates multi‐functional adaptations of denticles and contributes to the relatively less‐explored but essential aspects, such as protective functions and denticle morphogroups. By examining these functions together, this work aims to uncover potential synergies and interactions, facilitating the development of multifunctional materials inspired by shark skin denticles. The Eldgjá eruption is the largest basalt lava flood of the Common Era. It has been linked to a major ice‐core sulfur (S) spike in 939–940 CE and Northern Hemisphere summer cooling in 940 CE. Despite its magnitude and potential climate impacts, uncertainties remain concerning the eruption timeline, atmospheric dispersal of emitted volatiles, and coincident volcanism in Iceland and elsewhere. Here, we present a comprehensive analysis of Greenland ice‐cores from 936 to 943 CE, revealing a complex volatile record and cryptotephra with numerous geochemical populations. Transitional alkali basalt tephra matching Eldgjá are found in 939–940 CE, while tholeiitic basalt shards present in 936/937 CE and 940/941 CE are compatible with contemporaneous Icelandic eruptions from Grímsvötn and Bárðarbunga‐Veiðivötn systems (including V‐Sv tephra). We also find four silicic tephra populations, one of which we link to the Jala Pumice of Ceboruco (Mexico) at 941 ± 1 CE. Triple S isotopes, Δ33S, spanning 936–940 CE are indicative of upper tropospheric/lower stratospheric transport of aerosol sourced from the Icelandic fissure eruptions. However, anomalous Δ33S (down to −0.4‰) in 940–941 CE evidence stratospheric aerosol transport consistent with summer surface cooling revealed by tree‐ring reconstructions. Tephra associated with the anomalous Δ33S have a variety of compositions, complicating the attribution of climate cooling to Eldgjá alone. Nevertheless, our study confirms a major S emission from Eldgjá in 939–940 CE and implicates Eldgjá and a cluster of eruptions as triggers of summer cooling, severe winters, and privations in ∼940 CE. Plain Language Summary: The eruption of Eldgjá in the tenth century is the largest lava flood in the history of Iceland. Although Eldgjá emitted immense volumes of ash, lava, and gas, the exact timing and duration of this eruption, as well as its environmental and climatic impact remain unclear. Here, we provide a comprehensive chemical analysis of Greenland ice‐core records spanning the period 936–943 CE. We identify volcanic ash from at least three different Icelandic eruptions and confirm that there was a major ash and gas emission from Eldgjá in 939 CE. Using tree ring temperature estimates we find strong evidence for Northern Hemisphere climate cooling in the summer of 940 CE. However, the variety of volcanic ash identified in the ice‐cores shows that several Icelandic and Northern Hemisphere arc volcanoes were also erupting in this period. While Eldgjá remains the prime candidate, these additional eruptions complicate the attribution of reported climate and societal changes to Eldgjá alone. Ultimately, our study sheds new light on a cluster of volcanic eruptions between 936 and 943 CE and highlights the challenges of disentangling the individual contributions of multiple eruptions on the environment and climate. Aims: The question of how to handle clinically actionable outcomes from retrospective research studies is poorly explored. In neuropathology, this problem is exacerbated by ongoing refinement in tumour classification. We sought to establish a disclosure threshold for potential revised diagnoses as determined by the neuro‐oncology speciality. Methods: As part of a previous research study, the diagnoses of 73 archival paediatric brain tumour samples were reclassified according to the WHO 2016 guidelines. To determine the disclosure threshold and clinical actionability of pathology‐related findings, we conducted a result‐evaluation approach within the ethical framework of BRAIN UK using a surrogate clinical multidisciplinary team (MDT) of neuro‐oncology specialists. Results: The MDT identified key determinants impacting decision‐making, including anticipated changes to patient management, time elapsed since initial diagnosis, likelihood of the patient being alive and absence of additional samples since cohort inception. Ultimately, none of our research findings were considered clinically actionable, largely due to the cohort's historic archival and high‐risk nature. From this experience, we developed a decision‐making framework to determine if research findings indicating a change in diagnosis require reporting to the relevant clinical teams. Conclusions: Ethical issues relating to the use of archival tissue for research and the potential to identify actionable findings must be carefully considered. We have established a structured framework to assess the actionability of research data relating to patient diagnosis. While our specific findings are most applicable to the pathology of poor prognostic brain tumour groups in children, the model can be adapted to a range of disease settings, for example, other diseases where research is dependent on retrospective tissue cohorts, and research findings may have implications for patients and families, such as other tumour types, epilepsy‐related pathology, genetic disorders and degenerative diseases. Introduction: For the majority of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) an allogeneic stem cell transplant (SCT) in first complete remission (CR) is preferred. However, whether the number of courses required to achieve CR has a prognostic impact is unclear. It is unknown which factors remain important in patients requiring more than one course of induction to attain remission. Methods: This Acute Leukaemia Working Party study from the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation identified adults who received an allograft in first CR from either a fully matched sibling or 10/10 or 9/10 human leucocyte antigen (HLA)‐matched unrelated donor (HLA‐A, HLA‐B, HLA‐C, HLA‐DR, or HLA‐DQ). Univariate and multivariate analyses were undertaken to identify the prognostic impact of one or two courses of induction to attain CR. Results: A total of 4995 patients were included with 3839 (77%) patients attaining a CR following one course of induction chemotherapy (IND1), and 1116 patients requiring two courses (IND2) to attain CR. IND2 as compared to IND1 was a poor prognostic factor in a univariate analysis and remained so in a multivariate Cox model, resulting in an increased hazard ratio of relapse (1.38; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.16–1.64; p =.0003) and of death (1.27; 95% CI, 1.09–1.47; p =.002). Adverse prognostic factors in a multivariate analysis of the outcomes of patients requiring IND2 included age, FLT3‐ITD, adverse cytogenetics, and performance status. Pretransplant measurable residual disease retained a prognostic impact regardless of IND1 or IND2. Conclusion: Initial response to chemotherapy as determined by number of courses to attain CR, retained prognostic relevance even following SCT in CR. Patients requiring two courses of induction to attain complete remission (CR) have a higher incidence of relapse and inferior survival as compared to those who require one course. Pretransplant measurable residual disease remains important in predicting outcomes following an allogeneic stem cell transplant in those requiring two courses of induction to achieve CR. Summary: Late toxicities can impact survivorship in patients with classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) with pulmonary toxicity after bleomycin‐containing chemotherapy being a concern. The incidence of pulmonary diseases was examined in this Danish population‐based study. A total of 1474 adult patients with cHL treated with ABVD (doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine and dacarbazine) or BEACOPP (bleomycin, vincristine, etoposide, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, procarbazine and prednisone) between 2000 and 2018 were included along with 7370 age‐ and sex‐matched comparators from the background population. Median follow‐up was 8.6 years for the patients. Patients with cHL had increased risk of incident pulmonary diseases (HR 2.91 [95% CI 2.30–3.68]), with a 10‐year cumulative risk of 7.4% versus 2.9% for comparators. Excess risks were observed for interstitial lung diseases (HR 15.84 [95% CI 9.35–26.84]) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (HR 1.99 [95% CI 1.43–2.76]), with a 10‐year cumulative risk of 4.1% and 3.5% respectively for patients. No excess risk was observed for asthma (HR 0.82 [95% CI 0.43–1.56]). Risk factors for interstitial lung diseases were age ≥60 years, the presence of B‐symptoms and low albumin. These findings document a significant burden of pulmonary diseases among patients with cHL and emphasize the importance of diagnostic work‐up of pulmonary symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: Veno‐arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA‐ECMO) with profound left ventricular (LV) failure is associated with inadequate LV emptying. To unload the LV, VA‐ECMO can be combined with Impella CP (ECMELLA). We hypothesized that ECMELLA improves cardiac energetics compared with VA‐ECMO in a porcine model of cardiogenic shock (CS). Methods and results: Land‐race pigs (weight 70 kg) were instrumented, including a LV conductance catheter and a carotid artery Doppler flow probe. CS was induced with embolization in the left main coronary artery. CS was defined as reduction of ≥50% in cardiac output or mixed oxygen saturation (SvO2) or a SvO2 < 30%. At CS VA‐ECMO was initiated and embolization was continued until arterial pulse pressure was <10 mmHg. At this point, Impella CP was placed in the ECMELLA arm. Support was maintained for 4 h. CS was induced in 15 pigs (VA‐ECMO n = 7, ECMELLA n = 8). At time of CS MAP was <45 mmHg in both groups, with no difference at 4 h (VA‐ECMO 64 mmHg ± 11 vs. ECMELLA 55 mmHg ± 21, P = 0.08). Carotid blood flow and arterial lactate increased from CS and was similar in VA‐ECMO and ECMELLA [239 mL/min ± 97 vs. 213 mL/min ± 133 (P = 0.6) and 5.2 ± 3.3 vs. 4.2 ± 2.9 mmol/ (P = 0.5)]. Pressure‐volume area (PVA) was significantly higher with VA‐ECMO compared with ECMELLA (9567 ± 1733 vs. 6921 ± 5036 mmHg × mL/min × 10−3, P = 0.014). Total diureses was found to be lower in VA‐ECMO compared with ECMELLA [248 mL (179–930) vs. 506 mL (418–2190); P = 0.005]. Conclusions: In a porcine model of CS, we found lower PVA, with the ECMELLA configuration compared with VA‐ECMO, indicating better cardiac energetics without compromising systemic perfusion. Background: Modern radiotherapeutic techniques, such as intensity‐modulated radiation therapy or stereotactic body radiotherapy, require high‐dose delivery precision. However, the precise localization of tumors during patient respiration remains a challenge. Therefore, it is essential to investigate effective methods for monitoring respiration to minimize potential complications. Despite several systems currently in clinical use, there are drawbacks, including the complexity of the setup, the discomfort to the patient, and the high cost. Purpose: This study investigated the feasibility of using a novel pressure sensor array (PSA) as a tool to monitor respiration during radiotherapy treatments. The PSA was positioned between the treatment couch and the back of the patient lying on it and was intended to overcome some limitations of current methods. The main objectives included assessing the PSA's capability in monitoring respiratory behavior and to investigate prospective applications that extend beyond respiratory monitoring. Methods: A PSA with 31 pressure‐sensing elements was used in 12 volunteers. The participants were instructed to breathe naturally while lying on a couch without any audio or visual guidance. The performance of the PSA was compared to that of a camera‐based respiratory monitoring system (RPM, Varian, USA), which served as a reference. Several metrics, including pressure distribution, weight sensitivity, and correlations between PSA and RPM signals, were analyzed. The PSA's capacity to provide information on potential applications related to patient stability was also investigated. Results: The linear relationship between the weight applied to the PSA and its output was demonstrated in this study, confirming its sensitivity to pressure changes. A comparison of PSA and RPM curves revealed a high correlation coefficient of 0.9391 on average, indicating consistent respiratory cycles. The PSA also effectively measured the weight distribution at the volunteer's back in real‐time, which allows for monitoring the patient's movements during the radiotherapy. Conclusion: PSA is a promising candidate for effective respiratory monitoring during radiotherapy treatments. Its performance is comparable to the established RPM system, and its additional capabilities suggest its multifaceted utility. This paper shows the potential use of PSA for patient monitoring in radiotherapy and suggests possibilities for further research, including performance comparisons with other existing systems and real‐patient applications with respiratory training. There are sparse opportunities for direct measurement of upper stratospheric winds, yet improving their representation in subseasonal‐to‐seasonal prediction models can have significant benefits. There is solid evidence from previous research that global atmospheric infrasound waves are sensitive to stratospheric dynamics. However, there is a lack of results providing a direct mapping between infrasound recordings and polar‐cap upper stratospheric winds. The global International Monitoring System (IMS), which monitors compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear‐Test‐Ban Treaty, includes ground‐based stations that can be used to characterize the infrasound soundscape continuously. In this study, multi‐station IMS infrasound data were utilized along with a machine‐learning supported stochastic model, Delay‐SDE‐net, to demonstrate how a near‐real‐time estimate of the polar‐cap averaged zonal wind at 1‐hPa pressure level can be found from infrasound data. The infrasound was filtered to a temporal low‐frequency regime dominated by microbaroms, which are ambient‐noise infrasonic waves continuously radiated into the atmosphere from nonlinear interaction between counter‐propagating ocean surface waves. Delay‐SDE‐net was trained on 5 years (2014–2018) of infrasound data from three stations and the ERA5 reanalysis 1‐hPa polar‐cap averaged zonal wind. Using infrasound in 2019–2020 for validation, we demonstrate a prediction of the polar‐cap averaged zonal wind, with an error standard deviation of around 12 m·s −1$$ {}^{-1} $$ compared with ERA5. These findings highlight the potential of using infrasound data for near‐real‐time measurements of upper stratospheric dynamics. Objective: The objective of this study was to quantify the economic costs and impacts of off‐flavor on U.S. catfish farms. Methods: A survey was conducted to quantify the costs and economic methods using enterprise budget techniques to enumerate the costs of off‐flavor on catfish farms. Result: Diuron was the most popular‐choice algicide for off‐flavor management. Direct annual costs associated with off‐flavor management on catfish farms amounted to US$40 million/year. Total industry economic losses due to off‐flavor was estimated at $73.9 million in 2022. Conclusion: The study confirms the continued significance of off‐flavor in U.S. catfish farming and quantifies the associated economic effects. Impact statementEvaluating the economic cost associated with off‐flavor management practices provides insights into the economic significance of this persistent problem on U.S. catfish farms. This study found that the annual cost of off‐flavor amounts to $2325/ha and $0.272/kg, accounting for 10% of the total cost of production. Background: The complement system, an upstream recognition system of innate immunity, is activated upon SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. To gain a deeper understanding of the extent and duration of this activation, we investigated complement activation profiles during the acute phase of COVID‐19, its persistence post‐recovery and dynamic changes in relation to disease severity. Methods: Serial blood samples were obtained from two cohorts of hospitalized COVID‐19 patients (n = 457). Systemic complement activation products reflecting classical/lectin (C4d), alternative (C3bBbP), common (C3bc) and terminal pathway (TCC and C5a) were measured during hospitalization (admission, days 3–5 and days 7–10), at 3 months and after 1 year. Levels of activation and temporal profiles during hospitalization were related to disease severity defined as respiratory failure (PO2/FiO2 ratio <26.6 kPa) and/or admission to intensive care unit, 60‐day total mortality and pulmonary pathology after 3 months. Findings: During hospitalization, TCC, C4d, C3bc, C3bBbP and C5a were significantly elevated compared to healthy controls. Severely ill patients had significantly higher levels of TCC and C4d (p < 0.001), compared to patients with moderate COVID‐19. Escalated levels of TCC and C4d during hospitalization were associated with a higher risk of 60‐day mortality (p < 0.001), and C4d levels were additionally associated with chest CT changes at 3 months (p < 0.001). At 3 months and 1 year, we observed consistently elevated levels of most complement activation products compared to controls. Conclusion: Hospitalized COVID‐19 patients display prominent and long‐lasting systemic complement activation. Optimal targeting of the system may be achieved through enhanced risk stratification and closer monitoring of in‐hospital changes of complement activation products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The objective of this study was to develop and assess multidisciplinary advanced surgical planning (ASP) sessions using three dimensional (3D) printed models for cervicothoracic slide tracheoplasty (CST). We hypothesized that these sessions would improve surgeon confidence, streamline intraoperative planning, and highlight the utility of 3D modeling. Methods: 3D‐printed patient‐specific trachea models were used in pre‐operative ASP sessions consisting of a multidisciplinary case discussion and hands‐on slide tracheoplasty simulation. Participants completed a survey rating realism, utility, impact on the final surgical plan, and pre‐ and post‐session confidence. Statistical analysis was performed via Wilcoxon and Kruskal‐Wallis tests. Results: Forty‐eight surveys were collected across nine sessions and 27 different physicians. On a 5‐point Likert scale, models were rated as "very realistic", "very useful" (both median of 4, IQR 3–4 and 4–5, respectively). Overall confidence increased by 1.4 points (+/− 0.7, p < 0.0001), with the largest change seen in those with minimal prior slide tracheoplasty experience (p = 0.005). Participants felt that the sessions "strongly" impacted their surgical plan or anticipated performance (median 4, IQR 4–5), regardless of training level or experience. Conclusion: 3D‐printed patient‐specific models were successfully implemented in ASP sessions for CST. Models were deemed very realistic and very useful by surgeons across multiple specialties and training levels. Research Highlights The brain undergoes extensive development during late childhood and early adolescence. Cortical thinning is a prominent feature of this development, and some researchers have suggested that differences in cortical thickness may be related to internalizing symptoms, which typically increase during the same period. However, research has yielded inconclusive results. We utilized a new method that estimates the combined effect of individual differences in vertex‐wise cortical thickness on internalizing symptoms. This approach allows for many small effects to be distributed across the cortex and avoids the necessity of correcting for multiple tests. Using a sample of 8763 children aged 8.9 to 11.1 from the ABCD study, we decomposed the total variation in caregiver‐reported internalizing symptoms into differences in cortical thickness, additive genetics, and shared family environmental factors and unique environmental factors. Our results indicated that individual differences in cortical thickness accounted for less than 0.5% of the variation in internalizing symptoms. In contrast, the analysis revealed a substantial effect of additive genetics and family environmental factors on the different components of internalizing symptoms, ranging from 06% to 48% and from 0% to 34%, respectively. Overall, while this study found a minimal association between cortical thickness and internalizing symptoms, additive genetics, and familial environmental factors appear to be of importance for describing differences in internalizing symptoms in late childhood. We utilized a new method for modelling the total contribution of vertex‐wise individual differences in cortical thickness to internalizing symptoms in late childhood. The total contribution of individual differences in cortical thickness accounted for <0.5% of the variance in internalizing symptoms. Additive genetics and shared family environmental variation accounted for 17% and 34% of the variance in internalizing symptoms, respectively. Our results suggest that cortical thickness is not an important indicator for internalizing symptoms in childhood, whereas genetic and environmental differences have a substantial impact. This paper explores the extent to which firms perceive to benefit from university‐industry collaborations in their innovation processes, building on survey data from 232 Norwegian firms. We find that firms experience not only direct innovation benefits from collaborations, but also indirect benefits in the form of closer proximity to universities, which can in turn improve future collaboration. We compare the reported outputs from various types of collaboration, finding that firms engaging mainly in research‐oriented interactions more often report that collaborations result in innovation than those engaging in education‐oriented or more informal collaborations. However, education‐oriented and informal collaborations are equally important for building cognitive, organizational, institutional and social proximities between firms and universities. Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to explore public health nurses' experiences with mental health promotion for adolescent immigrants in lower secondary and high school, aiming to enhance knowledge and insights for effective mental health promotion. Methodological Design and Justification: A qualitative design employing a hermeneutic approach was chosen. Thirteen public health nurses were selected using purposive criterion sampling and snowballing. Thematic analysis was applied, adhering to COREQ guidelines for transparency. Ethical Issues and Approval: The research was approved by the Norwegian Centre for Research Data. The guidelines of the National Committee for Research Ethics in the Social Sciences and the Humanities were followed. Research Methods, Instruments, and/or Interventions: Data were collected through three focus‐group interviews (n = 13), using semi‐structured interview guides to explore the experiences of public health nurses in promoting mental health among adolescent immigrants. Outcome Measures: This study identified three key themes: (i) Striving to understand adolescent immigrants' mental health aspects, including both positive and negative aspects; (ii) Different strategies for promoting mental health, viewing adolescents as both recipients and contributors to their well‐being; and (iii) Barriers to public health nurses' promotion of mental health, including language, cultural, and knowledge‐related obstacles and trust issues. Results: Public health nurses noted that language barriers and trust issues often delayed adolescent immigrants from seeking help for mental health concerns. Cultural competence and empathy were deemed crucial. To meet these needs, public health nurses must build rapport with parents, collaborate with professionals, implement follow‐up programmes, and advocate for policy changes. Study Limitations: Limitations of this qualitative study include potential bias from the authors' background and non‐generalizability of results to other contexts. Conclusions: In conclusion, public health nurses' experiences reveal the need for enhanced cultural competence, language proficiency, and trust‐building to better serve adolescent immigrants. Inter‐alpha‐trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 5 (ITIH5) has been identified as a metastasis suppressor gene in pancreatic cancer. Here, we analyzed ITIH5 promoter methylation and protein expression in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset and three tissue microarray cohorts (n = 618), respectively. Cellular effects, including cell migration, focal adhesion formation and protein tyrosine kinase activity, induced by forced ITIH5 expression in pancreatic cancer cell lines were studied in stable transfectants. ITIH5 promoter hypermethylation was associated with unfavorable prognosis, while immunohistochemistry demonstrated loss of ITIH5 in the metastatic setting and worsened overall survival. Gain‐of‐function models showed a significant reduction in migration capacity, but no alteration in proliferation. Focal adhesions in cells re‐expressing ITIH5 exhibited a smaller and more rounded phenotype, typical for slow‐moving cells. An impressive increase of acetylated alpha‐tubulin was observed in ITIH5‐positive cells, indicating more stable microtubules. In addition, we found significantly decreased activities of kinases related to focal adhesion. Our results indicate that loss of ITIH5 in pancreatic cancer profoundly affects its molecular profile: ITIH5 potentially interferes with a variety of oncogenic signaling pathways, including the PI3K/AKT pathway. This may lead to altered cell migration and focal adhesion formation. These cellular alterations may contribute to the metastasis‐inhibiting properties of ITIH5 in pancreatic cancer. A heterodisulfide reductase‐like complex (sHdr) and novel lipoate‐binding proteins (LbpAs) are central players of a wide‐spread pathway of dissimilatory sulfur oxidation. Bioinformatic analysis demonstrate that the cytoplasmic sHdr–LbpA systems are always accompanied by sets of sulfur transferases (DsrE proteins, TusA, and rhodaneses). The exact composition of these sets may vary depending on the organism and sHdr system type. To enable generalizations, we studied model sulfur oxidizers from distant bacterial phyla, that is, Aquificota and Pseudomonadota. DsrE3C of the chemoorganotrophic Alphaproteobacterium Hyphomicrobium denitrificans and DsrE3B from the Gammaproteobacteria Thioalkalivibrio sp. K90mix, an obligate chemolithotroph, and Thiorhodospira sibirica, an obligate photolithotroph, are homotrimers that donate sulfur to TusA. Additionally, the hyphomicrobial rhodanese‐like protein Rhd442 exchanges sulfur with both TusA and DsrE3C. The latter is essential for sulfur oxidation in Hm. denitrificans. TusA from Aquifex aeolicus (AqTusA) interacts physiologically with AqDsrE, AqLbpA, and AqsHdr proteins. This is particularly significant as it establishes a direct link between sulfur transferases and the sHdr–LbpA complex that oxidizes sulfane sulfur to sulfite. In vivo, it is unlikely that there is a strict unidirectional transfer between the sulfur‐binding enzymes studied. Rather, the sulfur transferases form a network, each with a pool of bound sulfur. Sulfur flux can then be shifted in one direction or the other depending on metabolic requirements. A single pair of sulfur‐binding proteins with a preferred transfer direction, such as a DsrE3‐type protein towards TusA, may be sufficient to push sulfur into the sink where it is further metabolized or needed. The Lofoten and Vesterålen archipelagos are located off the outer coast of northern Norway far from the center of the former Fennoscandian Ice Sheet and near the continental shelf edge. Existing relative sea‐level (RSL) data indicate a pronounced mid‐Holocene transgression and interesting connections with the region's prehistoric human settlement history. Here we present seven new sea‐level index points from isolation basins and five terrestrial limiting points from a coastal sedimentary sequence to refine the region's RSL history. Ingression and isolation contacts in isolation basin sediment cores are identified using sedimentary geochemical data, scanning X‐ray fluorescence profiles and phytoplankton analysis. The ages of these contacts are determined using radiocarbon‐based age models. Our index points range from 11.2 to 1.5k cal a bp and are combined with previously published data to predict the spatiotemporal evolution of sea level in this region using an ensemble of spatiotemporal empirical hierarchical models (STEHME). The new RSL curve constrains the timing of the mid‐Holocene transgression, which occurred from c. 9 to 6k cal a bp when sea level increased from −4 to 7 m above present day. From c. 6 to 5k cal a bp, RSL rapidly fell to c. 4 m above present values, and more gradually declined at an average rate of c. 0.8 m ka−1 over the last 5k cal a bp. Isobase maps derived using the STEHME show a decrease in the regional shoreline gradients since the transgression maximum from 0.25 to 0.07 m km−1. Our data also better define how RSL variations influenced the location and preservation of coastal settlement locations and harbors from the early Stone Age through historic intervals, improving understanding of regional human–environment interactions. Introduction: Auditory‐perceptual evaluations of dysphonia, though essential for comprehensive voice evaluation, are subject to listener bias. Knowledge of an underlying voice disorder can influence auditory‐perceptual ratings. Accented speech results in increased listener effort and delays in word identification. Yet, little is known about the impact of foreign language accents on auditory‐perceptual ratings for dysphonic speakers. The purpose of this work was to determine the impact of a foreign language accent on experts' auditory‐perceptual ratings of dysphonic speakers. Methods: Twelve voice‐specializing SLPs who spoke with a General American English (GAE) accent rated vocal percepts of 28 speakers with a foreign language accent and 28 with a GAE accent, all of whom had been diagnosed with a voice disorder. Speaker groups were matched based on sex, age, and mean smoothed cepstral peak prominence. Four linear mixed‐effects models assessed the impact of a foreign language accent on expert auditory‐perceptual ratings of the overall severity of dysphonia, roughness, breathiness, and strain. Results: The twelve raters demonstrated good inter‐ and intra‐rater reliability (ICC[3, k] =.89; mean ICC =.89). The linear mixed‐effects models revealed no significant impact of foreign language accent on ratings of overall severity of dysphonia, roughness, breathiness, or strain. Conclusion: Despite the possibility of increased listener effort and bias, foreign language accent incongruence had no effect on expert listeners' auditory‐perceptual evaluations for dysphonic speakers. Background and Aim: Patients with diverticular disease (DD) have ongoing chronic inflammation associated with changes in the gut microbiome, which might contribute to the development of dementia. Methods: Using Danish medical and administrative registries from 1980 to 2013, we conducted a nationwide population‐based cohort study including all DD patients and a matched (5:1) general population comparison cohort without DD. A nested case–control analysis was then conducted using a risk set sampling, matching four DD controls without dementia to each DD patient with dementia. Clinical severity was categorized as uncomplicated DD (outpatient), conservatively treated DD (inpatient), and surgically treated DD. Results: 149 527 DD patients and 747 635 general population comparators were identified. The 30‐year cumulative incidence of dementia among DD patients and general population comparators were 12.4 (95% confidence interval [CI] 12.1–12.7) and 13.73% (95% CI 13.6–13.9), respectively. This corresponded to a 30‐year hazard ratio (HR) of 1.10 (95% CI 1.1–1.1). The highest HRs were found in the conservatively treated DD group (1.15 95% CI 1.1–1.2) and the group with young onset of DD (1.52 95% CI 1.2–2.0). In the nested case–control analysis, we identified 8875 dementia cases and 35 491 matched controls. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) for conservatively treated DD was increased (1.08, 95% CI; 1.0–1.2) compared to the reference of uncomplicated DD. Conclusions: We observed a slight increased risk of dementia in patients with young onset DD and conservatively treated DD. Findings suggest an association between disease duration, perhaps reflecting the duration of gut inflammation, and the risk of developing dementia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: We aimed to evaluate the occurrence of, and risk factors for precocious and early puberty in a retrospective cohort study of girls with shunted infantile hydrocephalus. Methods: The study population comprised 82 girls with infantile hydrocephalus, born between 1980 and 2002, and treated with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. Data were available for 39 girls with myelomeningocele and 34 without. Medical records were analysed regarding clinical data and timing of puberty. Precocious and early puberty was defined as the appearance of pubertal signs before 8 years and 0 months and 8 years and 9 months, respectively. Results: Median age at last admission was 15.8 years (range 10.0–18.0). In total, 15 girls (21%) had precocious puberty, and another 21 (29%) had early puberty. Three or more shunt revisions had been performed in 26/36 girls with early or precocious puberty and in 3/37 girls without (p = 0.01). The number of shunt revisions correlated negatively with age at the start of puberty in the girls with myelomeningocele (Spearman's correlation coefficient = −0.512, p = 0.001). Conclusion: Girls with shunted infantile hydrocephalus have a high risk of precocious or early puberty. Repeated shunt revisions seemed to be associated with early puberty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Improvements in simulating and communicating the evolutionary trajectory of river morphology in response to environmental forcing over multi‐decadal timeframes would foreshadow the development of "foresight competency" in river management, whereby resource managers could strategically plan toward the most preferred of several plausible futures. Of the six steps in foresight competency, visioning, which involves translating scientific forecasts into a format useable by resource managers via a user‐friendly and interactive decision support tool that supports transparent decision‐making, is the least well developed. The approach requires converting forecasting model outputs into metrics of channel evolution that highlight transitions either within or between channel morphology states. Here, seven process‐based state transition metrics are proposed covering channel planform, morphological stability, corridor belt width, floodplain connectivity, bank erosion rate, bedform habitat diversity, and ecohydraulic diversity. To aid decision support, the metrics are converted into graphical indicators that are intuitive for management use and assembled into several prototype dashboard‐style graphical user interfaces designed to facilitate interactivity. A proof‐of‐concept illustration is provided and priorities in development toward a fully operational decision support tool are discussed. Objective: This study aims to elucidate the long‐term benefit of newborn screening (NBS) for individuals with long‐chain 3‐hydroxy‐acyl‐CoA dehydrogenase (LCHAD) and mitochondrial trifunctional protein (MTP) deficiency, inherited metabolic diseases included in NBS programs worldwide. Methods: German national multicenter study of individuals with confirmed LCHAD/MTP deficiency identified by NBS between 1999 and 2020 or selective metabolic screening. Analyses focused on NBS results, confirmatory diagnostics, and long‐term clinical outcomes. Results: Sixty‐seven individuals with LCHAD/MTP deficiency were included in the study, thereof 54 identified by NBS. All screened individuals with LCHAD deficiency survived, but four with MTP deficiency (14.8%) died during the study period. Despite NBS and early treatment neonatal decompensations (28%), symptomatic disease course (94%), later metabolic decompensations (80%), cardiomyopathy (28%), myopathy (82%), hepatopathy (32%), retinopathy (17%), and/or neuropathy (22%) occurred. Hospitalization rates were high (up to a mean of 2.4 times/year). Disease courses in screened individuals with LCHAD and MTP deficiency were similar except for neuropathy, occurring earlier in individuals with MTP deficiency (median 3.9 vs. 11.4 years; p = 0.0447). Achievement of dietary goals decreased with age, from 75% in the first year of life to 12% at age 10, and consensus group recommendations on dietary management were often not achieved. Interpretation: While NBS and early treatment result in improved (neonatal) survival, they cannot reliably prevent long‐term morbidity in screened individuals with LCHAD/MTP deficiency, highlighting the urgent need of better therapeutic strategies and the development of disease course‐altering treatment. Objective: To review cases of congenital frontonasal dermoids to gain insight into the accuracy of preoperative computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in predicting intracranial extension. Methods: This retrospective study included all patients who underwent primary excision of frontonasal dermoids at an academic children's hospital over a 23‐year period. Preoperative presentation, imaging, and operative findings were reviewed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) statistics were generated to determine CT and MRI accuracy in detecting intracranial extension. Results: Search queries yielded 129 patients who underwent surgical removal of frontonasal dermoids over the study period with an average age of presentation of 12 months. Preoperative imaging was performed on 122 patients, with 19 patients receiving both CT and MRI. CT and MRI were concordant in the prediction of intracranial extension in 18 out of 19 patients. Intraoperatively, intracranial extension requiring craniotomy was seen in 11 patients (8.5%). CT was 87.5% sensitive and 97.4% specific for predicting intracranial extension with an ROC of 0.925 (95% CI [0.801, 1]), whereas MRI was 60.0% sensitive and 97.8% specific with an ROC of 0.789 (95% CI [0.627, 0.950]). Conclusion: This is the largest case series in the literature describing a single institution's experience with frontonasal dermoids. Intracranial extension is rare and few patients required craniotomy in our series. CT and MRI have comparable accuracy at detecting intracranial extension. Introduction: Vocal fold motion impairment (VFMI) is a known consequence after high‐risk cardiac surgery. We implemented a universal laryngeal ultrasound (LUS) screening protocol for VFMI after the Norwood and aortic arch surgery. We hypothesized that LUS would accurately identify VFMI and predict postoperative aspiration. Methods: We implemented a screening algorithm with LUS for patients undergoing high‐risk cardiac surgery at a tertiary care pediatric hospital. Positively screened patients underwent flexible nasolaryngoscopy (FNL). Patients with an abnormal FNL underwent a video‐fluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS). Patient demographics, length of stay, and swallowing outcomes were assessed. Two‐tailed chi square and Wilcoxon rank sum tests were used to assess for differences. Results: Sixty‐seven patients underwent either Norwood or arch reconstruction over a 16‐month period and underwent universal LUS. The average birth weight was 3.24 kg (SD 0.57). Of the 67 patients, VFMI was identified by LUS and 100% confirmed on FNL in 58.21% (n = 39/67) of patients. Aspiration and penetration on VFSS were higher in the group with VFMI as compared with those without VFMI (53.8% vs. 21.4%, p = 0.008). There was no difference in length of stay between patients who did not have a diagnosis of VFMI and those found to have VFMI (41.0 days vs 45.3 days p = 0.73). Conclusions: Universal LUS screening for patients following high‐risk cardiac surgery may lead to earlier identification of postoperative VFMI and aspiration. Recognition of VFMI through this universal screening program could lead to earlier interventions and possibly improved swallowing outcomes. Endoscopy is the gold standard for characterizing pediatric airway disorders, however, it is limited for quantitative analysis due to lack of three‐dimensional (3D) vision and poor stereotactic depth perception. We utilize structure from motion (SfM) photogrammetry, to reconstruct 3D surfaces of pathologic and healthy pediatric larynges from monocular two‐dimensional (2D) endoscopy. Models of pediatric subglottic stenosis were 3D printed and airway endoscopies were simulated. 3D surfaces were successfully reconstructed from endoscopic videos of all models using an SfM analysis toolkit. Average subglottic surface error between SfM reconstructed surfaces and 3D printed models was 0.65 mm as measured by Modified Hausdorff Distance. Average volumetric similarity between SfM surfaces and printed models was 0.82 as measured by Jaccard Index. SfM can be used to accurately reconstruct 3D surface renderings of the larynx from 2D endoscopy video. Conducting cellulose composites are promising sustainable functional materials that have found application in energy devices, sensing and water purification. Herein, conducting aerogels are fabricated based on nanofibrillated cellulose and poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate, using the ice templating technique, and their bulk morphology is characterized with X‐ray microtomography. The freezing method (−20 °C in a freezer vs liquid nitrogen) does not impact the mean porosity of the aerogels but the liquid‐N2 aerogels have smaller pores. The integration of carbon fibers as addressing electrodes prior to freezing results in increased mean porosity and pore size in the liquid‐N2 aerogels signifying that the carbon fibers alter the morphology of the aerogels when the freezing is fast. Spatially resolved porosity and pore size distributions also reveal that the liquid‐N2 aerogels are more inhomogeneous. Independent of the freezing method, the aerogels have similar electrochemical properties. For aerogels without carbon fibers, freezer‐aerogels have higher compression modulus and are less stable under cycling compression fatigue test. This can be explained by higher porosity with larger pores in the center of liquid‐N2 aerogels and thinner pore walls. This work demonstrates that micro‐CT is a powerful tool for characterizing the morphology of aerogels in a non‐destructive and spatially resolved manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

About 25% of melanoma harbor activating NRAS mutations, which are associated with aggressive disease therefore requiring a rapid antitumor intervention. However, no efficient targeted therapy options are currently available for patients with NRAS‐mutant melanoma. MEK inhibitors (MEKi) appear to display a moderate antitumor activity and also immunological effects in NRAS‐mutant melanoma, providing an ideal backbone for combination treatments. In our study, the MEKi binimetinib, cobimetinib and trametinib combined with the BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi) encorafenib, vemurafenib and dabrafenib were investigated for their ability to inhibit proliferation, induce apoptosis and alter the expression of immune modulatory molecules in sensitive NRAS‐mutant melanoma cells using two‐ and three‐dimensional cell culture models as well as RNA sequencing analyses. Furthermore, NRAS‐mutant melanoma cells resistant to the three BRAFi/MEKi combinations were established to characterize the mechanisms contributing to their resistance. All BRAFi induced a stress response in the sensitive NRAS‐mutant melanoma cells thereby significantly enhancing the antiproliferative and proapoptotic activity of the MEKi analyzed. Furthermore, BRAFi/MEKi combinations upregulated immune relevant molecules, such as ICOS‐L, components of antigen‐presenting machinery and the "don't eat me signal" molecule CD47 in the melanoma cells. The BRAFi/MEKi‐resistant, NRAS‐mutant melanoma cells counteracted the molecular and immunological effects of BRAFi/MEKi by upregulating downstream mitogen‐activated protein kinase pathway molecules, inhibiting apoptosis and promoting immune escape mechanisms. Together, our study reveals potent molecular and immunological effects of BRAFi/MEKi in sensitive NRAS‐mutant melanoma cells that may be exploited in new combinational treatment strategies for patients with NRAS‐mutant melanoma. ABSTRACT Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a major criminal, social and public health problem. As one effort to prevent IPV and intimate partner homicide, several countries have adopted legislation requiring professionals to disclose IPV to the authorities (commonly referred to as mandatory reporting). The child welfare service (CWS) is centrally positioned for detecting, reporting and preventing IPV, but there is limited empirical knowledge concerning how the service handles IPV cases or of social workers' awareness of mandatory reporting of IPV. Using qualitative interviews, we explore how CWS workers in Norway describe their discretionary space and mandatory obligations towards adults subjected to IPV. Our findings indicate an inexpedient interplay between understandings of professional mandate and individual responsibility and local routines and organisation and insufficient knowledge about IPV and mandatory reporting. We suggest that a reframing of CWS workers' understanding of their discretionary space is needed to ensure that their individual responsibility towards adults subjected to IPV is understood as part of their mandate. This reframing presupposes structural efforts, such as formal training. We propose further investigations concerning how local organisation and routines either facilitate or interfere with systematic and thorough handling of IPV in families with which the municipal CWS meets. As long as welfare arrangements have been in existence, there has been a strong belief that high‐benefit generosity leads to welfare reliance. In this study, we investigate whether an increase in welfare generosity in Norway resulted in higher social assistance (SA) uptake and decreased engagement in paid work. By utilizing high‐quality administrative data and employing a difference‐in‐difference design, we find no overall effects on SA or work activity. However, we do observe a significant reduction in work activity and an increase in SA for specific predefined high‐risk groups, which are believed to be particularly responsive to financial incentives. Thus, we discover evidence of unfavorable effects for child families, non‐Western immigrants, and the combined group of non‐Western immigrant child families. This article examines the concept of the "public and psychological wage" as developed by W.E.B. Du Bois and its relevance to theories of racial capitalism. It argues that the wages of whiteness played a crucial role in the rise of industrial capitalism in the United States by compensating white laborers and suppressing wages for black laborers. The article also explores the idea of transnational whiteness and how it hindered global working-class solidarity. It concludes by discussing the role of financial logics in Du Bois's transnational democratic thought and its implications for industrial democracy. Aims: Sulfatide is a chaperone for insulin manufacturing in beta cells. Here we explore whether the blood glucose values normally could be associated with this sphingolipid and especially two of its building enzymes CERS2 and CERS6. Both T1D and T2D have low blood sulfatide levels, and insulin resistance on beta cells at clinical diagnosis. Furthermore, we examined islet pericytes for sulfatide, and beta‐cell receptors for GLP‐1, both of which are related to the insulin production. Materials and Methods: We examined mRNA levels in islets from the DiViD and nPOD studies, performed genetic association analyses, and histologically investigated pericytes in the islets for sulfatide. Results: Polymorphisms of the gene encoding the CERS6 enzyme responsible for synthesising dihydroceramide, a precursor to sulfatide, are associated with random blood glucose values in non‐diabetic persons. This fits well with our finding of sulfatide in pericytes in the islets, which regulates the capillary blood flow in the islets of Langerhans, which is important for oxygen supply to insulin production. In the islets of newly diagnosed T1D patients, we observed low levels of GLP‐1 receptors; this may explain the insulin resistance in their beta cells and their low insulin production. In T2D patients, we identified associated polymorphisms in both CERS2 and CERS6. Conclusions: Here, we describe several polymorphisms in sulfatide enzymes related to blood glucose levels and HbA1c in non‐diabetic individuals. Islet pericytes from such persons contain sulfatide. Assessing historical environmental conditions linked to habitat colonization is important for understanding long‐term resilience and improving conservation and restoration efforts. Such information is lacking for the seagrass Zostera marina, an important foundation species across cold‐temperate coastal areas of the Northern Hemisphere. Here, we reconstructed environmental conditions during the last 14,000 years from sediment cores in two eelgrass (Z. marina) meadows along the Swedish west coast, with the main aims to identify the time frame of seagrass colonization and describe subsequent biogeochemical changes following establishment. Based on vegetation proxies (lipid biomarkers), eelgrass colonization occurred about 2,000 years ago after geomorphological changes that resulted in a shallow, sheltered environment favoring seagrass growth. Seagrass establishment led to up to 20‐ and 24‐fold increases in sedimentary carbon and nitrogen accumulation rates, respectively. This demonstrates the capacity of seagrasses as efficient ecosystem engineers and their role in global change mitigation and adaptation through CO2 removal, and nutrient and sediment retention. By combining regional climate projections and landscape models, we assessed potential climate change effects on seagrass growth, productivity and distribution until 2100. These predictions showed that seagrass meadows are mostly at risk from increased sedimentation and hydrodynamic changes, while the impact from sea level rise alone might be of less importance in the studied area. This study showcases the positive feedback between seagrass colonization and environmental conditions, which holds promise for successful conservation and restoration efforts aimed at supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the provision of several other crucial ecosystem services. Employing privacy calculus theory, we examine why Gen Z consumers increasingly adopt ad blockers, use private browsers, or take other measures to limit data tracking. Specifically, we evaluate consumer behaviors related to personalized and non‐personalized digital marketing in light of two personalization paradoxes: privacy–benefits and avoidance–annoyance. Using structural equation modeling on a sample of 414 Gen Z consumers, our findings show that both the privacy–benefits paradox and avoidance–annoyance paradox strongly influence consumers' intentions to avoid brands that fail to personalize marketing efforts. We also explore the interaction effects of the two digital personalization tensions, showing that tradeoffs exist between the utilization of these two paradoxes. Background: A child's socioeconomic environment can shape central aspects of their life, including vulnerability to mental disorders. Negative environmental influences in youth may interfere with the extensive and dynamic brain development occurring at this time. Indeed, there are numerous yet diverging reports of associations between parental socioeconomic status (SES) and child cortical brain morphometry. Most of these studies have used single metric‐ or unimodal analyses of standard cortical morphometry that downplay the probable scenario where numerous biological pathways in sum account for SES‐related cortical differences in youth. Methods: To comprehensively capture such variability, using data from 9758 children aged 8.9–11.1 years from the ABCD Study®, we employed linked independent component analysis (LICA) and fused vertex‐wise cortical thickness, surface area, curvature and grey‐/white‐matter contrast (GWC). LICA revealed 70 uni‐ and multimodal components. We then assessed the linear relationships between parental education, parental income and each of the cortical components, controlling for age, sex, genetic ancestry, and family relatedness. We also assessed whether cortical structure moderated the negative relationships between parental SES and child general psychopathology. Results: Parental education and income were both associated with larger surface area and higher GWC globally, in addition to local increases in surface area and to a lesser extent bidirectional GWC and cortical thickness patterns. The negative relation between parental income and child psychopathology were attenuated in children with a multimodal pattern of larger frontal‐ and smaller occipital surface area, and lower medial occipital thickness and GWC. Conclusion: Structural brain MRI is sensitive to SES diversity in childhood, with GWC emerging as a particularly relevant marker together with surface area. Aims and Objectives: To explore midwives' and public‐health nurses' experiences of breastfeeding counselling in order to provide a deeper insight into breastfeeding counselling. Methodological Design and Justification: A qualitative design was used, and qualitative content analysis was conducted to analyse the data in accordance with the phenomenological hermeneutic tradition. Ethical Issues and Approval: The Norwegian Centre for Research Data approved this study. All participants provided written consent. Research Methods: Four focus‐group interviews were conducted on a sample of eight midwives and 13 public‐health nurses in Norway. Results: Three interrelated themes describing the meaning of midwives' and public‐health nurses' experiences with breastfeeding counselling emerged from the analysis: Breastfeeding Counselling Means Responsibility for Collaboration and Facilitation, Being Confident as a Breastfeeding Counsellor Means Striving for Professional Competence and Supporting the Individual Breastfeeding Family Means Being Sensitive and Adapting to Novel Situations. Study Limitations: The focus groups comprised a mix of midwives and public‐health nurses, which may have inhibited honest declaration of these professionals' opinions of each other. Conclusion: Midwives and public‐health nurses regard structural factors and prioritising breastfeeding support in society as important for providing good breastfeeding counselling. Midwives and public‐health nurses strive to find a balance between relying on their own competence, promoting breastfeeding in accordance with guidelines and respecting mothers' choices. Healthcare professionals require knowledge about breastfeeding, good clinical judgement, a listening attitude and openness to how breastfeeding affects mother's everyday life to provide good breastfeeding care. Objective: To determine if perioperative ketorolac is associated with an increased rate of reoperation for hemorrhage after pediatric tonsillectomy at 30 days and 48 hours. Study Design: Single‐center retrospective propensity‐matched study. Setting: Quaternary pediatric hospital and ambulatory surgery center. Methods: Patients less than 18 years old undergoing tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy between January 1, 2015 and October 1, 2020 were included. Hemorrhage rates between exposed (K+) and unexposed (K−) patients were calculated for the total cohort and a 1:1 propensity‐matched cohort. Additional analyses included: multivariable logistic regression, subgroup analysis of ASA 1 and 2 patients, subgroup analysis comparing children with teenagers. Results: There were 5873 patients (42.1% K+) in the full cohort and 4694 patients in the propensity‐matched cohort. Reoperation for hemorrhage within 30 days occurred in 1.9% of K+ patients and 1.6% of K− patients (P = 0.455) in the full cohort and 1.9% of K+ patients and 1.7% of K− patients (odds ratio [OR] 1.10, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.72‐1.69, P = 0.662) in the propensity‐matched cohort. Reoperation within 48 hours occurred in 0.65% of K+ patients and 0.53% of K− patients (P = 0.679) in the full cohort and 0.68% of K+ patients and 0.51% of K− patients (OR 1.33, 95% CI 0.63‐2.81, P = 0.451) in the propensity‐matched cohort. There was no association between perioperative ketorolac administration and reoperation for hemorrhage in any of the other analyses. Conclusion: Ketorolac at end of surgery should be considered as part of the nonopioid analgesic regimen for pediatric tonsillectomy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate visual function and vision‐related general health in adults that were born preterm with very low birth weight (VLBW: birth weight < 1500 g) in their 30s–40s. Methods: We recruited 137 adults born preterm with VLBW and 158 term‐born controls aged 31–43 years from two birth cohorts: the Helsinki Study of Very Low Birth Weight Adults (Finland) and the NTNU Low Birth Weight in a Lifetime Perspective study (Norway). We used neonatal data and measured refraction, best‐corrected visual acuity (BCVA) using the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) chart, contrast sensitivity, visual fields, intraocular pressure (IOP), self‐reported vision‐targeted health status with the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire‐25. Results: VLBW adults had a lower BCVA ETDRS score than controls: mean (SD) better eye 86.7 (13.4) versus 90.2 (4.4), p = 0.02; mean (SD) worse eye 82.3 (14.9) versus 87.6 (4.6), p = 0.003. VLBW adults also had lower contrast sensitivity thresholds in several spatial frequencies and scored lower than controls in eight out of the 12 subscales of self‐reported vision‐targeted health status. Refraction, visual fields and IOP were similar between groups. Two VLBW participants were blind. None had been treated for retinopathy of prematurity. Conclusion: We suggest that lower visual function and vision‐related health represent life‐long consequences of prematurity and VLBW in the studied 31‐ to 43‐year‐old cohort. Plant–fungal interactions are ubiquitous across ecosystems and contribute significantly to plant ecology and evolution. All orchids form obligate symbiotic relationships with specific fungi for germination and early growth, and the distribution of terrestrial orchid species has been linked to occurrence and abundance of specific orchid mycorrhizal fungi (OMF) in the soil. The availability of OMF can therefore be a habitat requirement that is relevant to consider when establishing management and conservation strategies for threatened orchid species, but knowledge on the spatial distribution of OMF in soil is limited. We here studied the mycorrhizal associations of three terrestrial orchid species (Anacamptis pyramidalis, Orchis purpurea and Platanthera chlorantha) found in a local orchid diversity hotspot in eastern Denmark, and investigated the abundance of the identified mycorrhizal fungi in the surrounding soil. We applied ITS metabarcoding to samples of orchid roots, rhizosphere soil and bulk soil collected at three localities, supplemented with standard barcoding of root samples with OMF specific primers, and detected 22 Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs) putatively identified as OMF. The three orchid species displayed different patterns of OMF associations, supporting the theory that association with specific fungi constitutes part of an orchid's ecological niche allowing co‐occurrence of many species in orchid‐rich habitats. The identified mycorrhizal partners in the basidiomycete families Tulasnellaceae and Ceratobasidiaceae (Cantharallales) were detected in low abundance in rhizosphere soil, and appeared almost absent from bulk soil at the localities. This finding highlights our limited knowledge of the ecology and trophic mode of OMF outside orchid tissues, as well as challenges in the detection of specific OMF with standard methods.
