Contact probe is broadly used for the continuous monitoring of microelectronic components in manufacturing industries. False rejection of fine product due to defective contact probe significantly reduces the yield in production. Traditionally, defect detection for contact probes heavily depends on a valid range manually defined by engineers over the measured value of certain parameters. However, the subjective range defined according to engineer experience is prone to trigger a high rate of false alarms due to the inherent noise in the measured parameters. To address this issue, we construct a health index (HI) with the contact resistance‐directly‐related features to help monitor and assess the condition of contact probe. Based on the established HI, we develop Long Short‐Term Memory (LSTM) encoder‐decoder machine learning model to assess the condition of contact probe by forecasting the HI value in the future. Encoders from LSTM and convolutional neural network (CNN) are selected as the encoder‐decoder architecture for the sequence‐to‐sequence prediction due to their advantage in extracting the correlation of features at different scales. An explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) technique named Local interpretable model‐agnostic explanations (LIME) is used to quantify the contribution of each feature to the model prediction. The encoder from CNN is found to outperform the LSTM encoder in extracting the inter‐feature correlation. Finally, the predicted HI is used to signal the alarm for the maintenance action of contact probe when its value is below a predefined threshold. Comparison between the action alarm triggered by the developed HI and the actual maintenance records suggests that the proposed approach achieves at least 75% accuracy for the triggered alarm in the next 15 mins. Background: Physical examination and computed tomography angiography (CTA) are used for diagnosing arterial injury in extremity trauma. In recent years, CTA has been overused to obtain more objective data. Our study aimed to investigate the effect of using CTA for the management of patients with extremity penetrating injuries, specifically in cases where vascular injury was not detected during initial examination. Methods: This retrospective study included patients with penetrating trauma who underwent CTA of the extremities. The demographic data, mechanism of injury, the side of injury, initial vascular exam (normal, soft signs, and hard signs), radiological results, and any orthopedic and vascular intervention performed were recorded. The χ2 test was used for independent variables. A significance level of p < 0.05 was used. We compared the sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value (NPV), and positive predictive value (PPV) for physical exam and CTA for identifying arterial injury requiring intervention. Results: Of the 252 patients included in the study, 29 (21.5%) had abnormal vascular physical examination while 26 (10.3%) had an abnormal CTA. The NPV of the hard sign for identifying vascular injury was 95.4%, while the sensitivity was 57.7%, specificity was 100%, and PPV was 100%. The NPV of routine physical examination to determine the requirement for vascular intervention was 100%. The sensitivity and PPV of the soft sign in determining the need for vascular intervention were 65.4% and 77.3%, respectively. Conclusion: Vascular injury was present in all cases that had positive hard signs. CTA imaging and vascular intervention are not necessary in patients who exhibit no hard and/or soft indicators during a thorough physical examination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the importance of transparent and reproducible research practices in the field of Rheumatology. The study aims to systematically review the transparency and reproducibility of research in Rheumatology from 2003 to 2023. A random sample of 500 articles from Rheumatology journals will be reviewed, and data will be analyzed to identify trends and predictors of research transparency and reproducibility. The study design features a systematic, longitudinal sampling approach to visualize and quantify patterns over time, potentially informing future research initiatives in the field. The two‐dimensional (2‐D) Janus and amphiphilic molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheet with opposite optical activities on each side (amphichiral) is synthesized by modifying sandwich‐like bulk MoS2 with tannic acid and cholesterol through biphasic emulsion method. This new type of amphichiral Janus MoS2 nanosheet consists of a hydrophilic and positive optical activity tannic acid side as well as a hydrophobic and negative optical activity cholesterol side thereby characterized by circular dichroism. Surface‐directed orientational differentiation assemblies are performed for the as‐synthesized 2D material and are characterized by contact angle, infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron, and circular dichroism spectroscopies. The amphiphilic nature of the materials is demonstrated by the pre‐organization of the nanosheets on either hydrophobic or hydrophilic surfaces, providing unprecedented properties of circular dichroism signal enhancement and wettability. Selective detachment of the surface organic groups (cholesterol and tannic acid fragments) is realized by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionisation ‐ time‐of‐flight (MALDI‐TOF) mass spectrometry, and the dual substrate release in tissue is detected by ex vivo mass spectrometry imaging. Background: Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that has a rapid onset and can result in death. Identifying the factors that trigger anaphylaxis and increase its severity is important for preventing refractory anaphylaxis (RA). In this study, we aimed to determine the factors associated with an increased risk of developing RA. Preventive measures to reduce the frequency and intensity of anaphylactic events are essential to provide the best care for allergic patients. Aggravating factors can trigger or increase the severity of anaphylaxis and therefore need to be recognized and avoided. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 1378 patients over the age of 18 who were diagnosed with anaphylaxis in our clinic between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2024. We divided the patients into two groups: anaphylaxis and RA. We evaluated the patients' clinical characteristics in the ED, demographic information, and elicitors that caused anaphylaxis. Results: Of the 1384 anaphylaxis patients included in the study, 46 (3.3%) were diagnosed as RA. We determined that having a history of anaphylaxis is the most important determinant of the increased risk of RA. Having a history of anaphylaxis (OR: 2.87, 95% CI: 1.71–5.72), beta‐blockers/ACEI use (OR: 2.47, 95% CI: 1.71–5.42), IV contrast agent (OR: 2.33, 95% CI: 1.64–5.39), and low blood pressure or related symptoms (OR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.67–5.43) were more frequently associated with severe reactions. Conclusion: We found that having low blood pressure or related symptoms, a known history of anaphylaxis, beta‐blockers/ACEI, and IV contrast agent are risk factors for RA. To prevent mortality and morbidity in patients with this risk factor, early interventions such as rapidly repeating epinephrine doses and rapid fluid resuscitation should not be avoided. Background: Better access to direct‐acting antiviral (DAA) therapy has broadened the utilization of hepatitis C virus (HCV) nucleic acid testing (NAT) positive organs with excellent outcomes. However, DAA therapy has been associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation. Aim: To determine the risk of HBV transmission or reactivation with utilization of HBV core antibody positive (HBcAb+) and HCV NAT positive (HCV+) organs, which presumably required DAA therapy. Methods: The number of HBcAb+ donors with delineated HCV NAT status was obtained from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) database. The number of unexpected HBV infections from transplanted organs adjudicated as "proven" or "probable" transmission was obtained from the OPTN Ad Hoc Disease Transmission Advisory Committee database. A chart review of the donors of "proven" or "probable" cases was conducted. Results: From January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2021, 7735 organs were procured from 3767 HBcAb+ donors and transplanted into 7469 recipients; 545 (14.5%) donors were also HCV+. HBV transmission or reactivation occurred in seven recipients. The rate is not significantly different between recipients of HCV+ (0.18%, 2/1115) and the HCV NAT negative (HCV‐) organs (0.08%, 5/6354) (p = 0.28) or between recipients of HCV+ and HCV‐ livers as well as non‐liver organs. HBV transmission or reactivation occurred within a median of 319 (range, 41–1117) days post‐transplant in the setting of missing, inadequate, or truncated prophylaxis. Conclusion: HBV reactivation associated with DAA therapy for HBcAb+ HCV+ organs is less frequent than reported in the non‐transplant population, possibly due to the common use of HBV prophylaxis in the at‐risk transplant population. Background: Allergic rhinitis is a common inflammatory condition of the nasal mucosa that imposes a considerable health burden. Air pollution has been observed to increase the risk of developing allergic rhinitis. We addressed the hypotheses that early life exposure to air toxics is associated with developing allergic rhinitis, and that these effects are mediated by DNA methylation and gene expression in the nasal mucosa. Methods: In a case–control cohort of 505 participants, we geocoded participants' early life exposure to air toxics using data from the US Environmental Protection Agency, assessed physician diagnosis of allergic rhinitis by questionnaire, and collected nasal brushings for whole‐genome DNA methylation and transcriptome profiling. We then performed a series of analyses including differential expression, Mendelian randomization, and causal mediation analyses to characterize relationships between early life air toxics, nasal DNA methylation, nasal gene expression, and allergic rhinitis. Results: Among the 505 participants, 275 had allergic rhinitis. The mean age of the participants was 16.4 years (standard deviation = 9.5 years). Early life exposure to air toxics such as acrylic acid, phosphine, antimony compounds, and benzyl chloride was associated with developing allergic rhinitis. These air toxics exerted their effects by altering the nasal DNA methylation and nasal gene expression levels of genes involved in respiratory ciliary function, mast cell activation, pro‐inflammatory TGF‐β1 signaling, and the regulation of myeloid immune cell function. Conclusions: Our results expand the range of air pollutants implicated in allergic rhinitis and shed light on their underlying biological mechanisms in nasal mucosa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction. Traumatic pneumothorax is a life‐threatening condition requiring vigilant clinical assessment and urgent management. Lung ultrasound (LUS) is considered to be a safer, rapid, and accurate modality for the early diagnosis of traumatic pneumothorax. The principle objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of bedside LUS performed by trained novice physicians in the diagnosis of traumatic pneumothorax as compared to supine chest X‐rays (CXRs) and/or computed tomography (CT) scans and/or air leak during needle/tube thoracostomy as composite standard. Methods. It is a prospective, cross‐sectional, single‐blinded study using a nonprobability quota sampling technique. A total of 96 patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with polytrauma and chest injuries within a period of twelve months were included. The diagnostic accuracy of bedside LUS performed by trained novice physicians was calculated in terms of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) and compared with the composite standard. Results. The sensitivity of LUS in diagnosing traumatic pneumothorax as compared to the composite standard was 100% (95% confidence interval (CI): 59.05%–100.00%), whereas its specificity was 97.75% (95% CI: 92.12%–99.73%). Similarly, the PPV and NPV of LUS were 77.7% (95% CI: 39.99%–97.19%) and 100% (95% CI: 95.85%–100.00%), respectively. Conclusion. The results of the study showed that the application of LUS in detecting traumatic pneumothorax had similar diagnostic accuracy as supine CXR. Bedside LUS is widely available, portable, and inexpensive. It also has the capability of real‐time imaging and can be repeated as necessary with less risk of radiation exposure. Therefore, physicians working in tertiary and rural health institutions must be trained adequately in order to uplift the clinical utility of LUS for the timely and cost‐effective detection of traumatic pneumothorax. Speaking up directly promotes voice endorsement because it enhances communication clarity. Yet, voicers may hesitate to engage in direct voice because it is a dominant communication tactic that may upset, impose on, embarrass, or undermine their leader, potentially resulting in a backlash, greater workload, or a tainted image. These concerns present a puzzle regarding whether alternative communication tactics exist whereby voicers can secure endorsement for improvement‐oriented initiatives without directly challenging their leader. To address this puzzle, we introduce voice inquiry—expressing improvement‐oriented suggestions or concerns in the form of a question—as a submissive communication tactic to secure endorsement. Drawing upon dominance complementarity theory, we argue that voice inquiry prompts endorsement because it enhances leader's sense of power. Given the complementary effect of submissiveness and dominance, we further predict that this effect will be stronger when leader dominance is high. We conducted three Pilot Studies to unpack the content, motivation, prevalence, and submissive nature of voice inquiry. Building on this foundation, we conducted a multi‐wave field study with 373 employees and 178 leaders in a transportation company (Study 1) and a vignette experiment with 243 full‐time workers (Study 2). Across studies, our research demonstrates voice inquiry as a theoretically driven communication tactic that increases endorsement by activating leader sense of power, particularly among dominant leaders. Objective. To explore the value of the injury severity score (ISS) and the new injury severity score (NISS) for evaluating injuries and predicting complications (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and poor prognoses (in‐hospital tracheal intubation, extended length of hospital stay, ICU admission, prolonged ICU stay, and death) in patients with thoracic trauma. Methods. The data of consecutive patients with thoracic trauma who were admitted to the department of cardiothoracic surgery of a tertiary hospital between January 2018 and December 2021 were retrospectively collected. ISS and NISS were calculated for each patient. The study outcomes were complications and poor prognoses. The differences in ISS and NISS between patients with complications and poor prognoses and patients without the abovementioned conditions were compared using the Mann‒Whitney U test. Discrimination and calibration of ISS and NISS in predicting outcomes were compared using the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) and Hosmer‒Lemeshow (H‐L) statistic. Results. A total of 310 patients were included. ISS and NISS of patients with complications and poor prognoses were greater than those of patients without complications and poor prognoses, respectively. The discrimination of ISS in predicting pneumonia, respiratory failure, in‐hospital tracheal intubation, extended length of hospital stay, ICU admission, prolonged ICU stay, and death (AUCs: 0.609, 0.721, 0.848, 0.784, 0.763, 0.716, and 0.804, respectively) was not statistically significantly different from that of NISS in predicting the corresponding outcomes (AUCs: 0.628, 0.712, 0.795, 0.767, 0.750, 0.750, and 0.818, respectively). ISS showed better calibration than NISS for predicting pneumonia, respiratory failure, in‐hospital tracheal intubation, extended length of hospital stay, and ICU admission but worse calibration for predicting prolonged ICU stay and death. Conclusion. ISS and NISS are both suitable for injury evaluation. There was no statistically significant difference in discrimination between ISS and NISS, but they had different calibrations when predicting different outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the relationship between cognitive impairment and functional limitations in individuals with haemophilia in Hong Kong. The study reveals that patients who experience difficulties with memory, attention, and executive functioning tend to have poorer performance at work or school. These cognitive functions are crucial for setting and achieving goals, as well as adapting to one's surroundings, so deficiencies in these areas can impact occupational or educational performance. The findings suggest that regular monitoring of cognitive function should be integrated into the standard care for haemophilia patients, particularly those facing occupational or vocational challenges. Further research is necessary to develop a cost-effective and clinically feasible method for monitoring cognitive function in these individuals. The study investigates how cognitive impairment affects functional limitations in haemophilia patients. The researchers discover that impairments in attention, motor processing speed, and cognitive flexibility are linked to a decline in functional status. The study proposes that regular screening for cognitive deficits and cognitive rehabilitation may be necessary for this population. Drawing from team‐level job demands‐resources theory, we hypothesize that team workload demands moderate the positive link between team boundary work (i.e., boundary spanning and boundary buffering) and team effectiveness (i.e., team innovation and team performance), such that boundary work is more beneficial for team effectiveness when teams face higher team workload demands. Furthermore, we predict that this interaction occurs through increased team vigor, where team vigor is defined as an affective emergent state characterized by positive valences and high activation levels experienced by team members. We largely find support for our model across two field studies: a cross‐sectional survey using three independent data sources (89 automotive research and development teams, including 724 team members, 89 team leaders and 18 managers) and a time‐lagged survey using two independent data sources (139 teams working in a Chinese utility company, including 640 team members and 139 team leaders). Perovskite‐based memristors with tunable nonvolatile states are developed to mimic the synaptic interconnects of biological nervous systems and map neuromorphic computing networks to integrated circuits. To emulate the plasticity of synaptic structures, memristors with robust multilevel resistive states are fabricated in this work using high‐density polycrystalline MAPbCl3 nanowires (NWs) array that vertically integrated using solution method. In particular, the fabricated memristors exhibit both short‐ and long‐term plasticity and traits akin to biological synapses. A fabricated memristor device is precisely programmed to 18 resistive states and each state exhibits stable data retention of more than 100 000 s. Furthermore, a matrix processing unit using a 4‐by‐4 memristor array is fabricated as the hardware core of an encoder–decoder artificial neural network to demonstrate high accuracy and reliable in‐image font conversion. The resistive states of the 16 memristors are precisely programmed to the corresponding resistance values for specific synaptic weights of the artificial‐neural‐network‐trained offline. In addition, experimental characterization and first‐principles simulations attribute the continuous programmability and high reliability features of the memristors to the confinement mechanisms of the horizontal grain‐boundary structure in polycrystalline perovskite NWs. Background Study: The effects of the flipped classroom (FC) on students' academic performance remain ambiguous, and the use of pre‐class videos may be one of the main factors hindering students' progress. A software package called GeoGebra has been proposed as a substitute for pre‐class videos to aid students' learning. Objective: This study investigates the effect of the FC using GeoGebra (FCG) on mathematical performance and memory among senior secondary students. Methods: One hundred and sixty students of a senior high school in China were selected. A quasi‐experimental design was implemented in which the classes were split into the intervention group (FCG), control group A (FCV) and control group B (TL) by random assignment. Pretest, Post‐test 1 and Post‐test 2 were introduced. Results and Conclusion: The results indicate that both the FCG and the FC with pre‐class videos (FCV) were more effective than traditional lectures in enhancing students' academic test scores, and that the effect of the FCG was comparable to its video counterpart, F(2, 136) = 3.752, ρ = 0.026, η2 = 0.052. Although their effects were similar, the qualitative results revealed some hidden benefits associated with the replacement of pre‐class video with GeoGebra. Furthermore, although they were equally effective in promoting students' performance in the short‐term, the long‐term effects on academic performance of both forms of FC were non‐significant when compared with traditional lectures. Lay Description: What is already known about this topic: Flipped classroom is an effective strategy in teaching mathematics.Among those challenges, video may be one of the main factors hindering the effect of flipped classroom. Technological innovations, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), have the potential to expedite the goal of precision medicine, especially when combined with increased capacity for voluminous data from multiple sources and expanded therapeutic modalities; however, they also present several challenges. In this communication, we first discuss the goals of precision medicine, and contextualize the use of AI in precision medicine by showcasing innovative applications (e.g., prediction of tumor growth and overall survival, biomarker identification using biomedical images, and identification of patient population for clinical practice) which were presented during the February 2023 virtual public workshop entitled "Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Precision Medicine," hosted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and University of Maryland Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (M‐CERSI). Next, we put forward challenges brought about by the multidisciplinary nature of AI, particularly highlighting the need for AI to be trustworthy. To address such challenges, we subsequently note practical approaches, viz., differential privacy, synthetic data generation, and federated learning. The proposed strategies – some of which are highlighted presentations from the workshop – are for the protection of personal information and intellectual property. In addition, methods such as the risk‐based management approach and the need for an agile regulatory ecosystem are discussed. Finally, we lay out a call for action that includes sharing of data and algorithms, development of regulatory guidance documents, and pooling of expertise from a broad‐spectrum of stakeholders to enhance the application of AI in precision medicine. Pedo‐transfer functions (PTFs) relate soil/landscape static properties to a wide range of model inputs (e.g., soil hydraulic parameters) that are essential to soil hydrological modeling. Combining PTFs and hydrological models is a powerful strategy allowing the use of soil/landscape static properties for the generalization of large‐scale modeling. However, since the spatial scales of soil hydraulic parameters required for model inputs and soil/landscape static properties are often not identical, cross‐scale transfer is required, which can be a significant source of errors. Here, we investigate uncertainties in cross‐scale transfer and develop an approach that avoids them. The proposed method uses the convolutional neural network (CNN) as a cross‐scale transfer approach to directly map soil/landscape static properties to soil hydraulic parameters across different spatial scales. The proposed CNN approach is applied under two different estimation strategies to invert the hydraulic parameters of a soil‐water balance model and subsequently the quality of the parameters is assessed. Both synthetical and real‐world results around the conterminous United States indicate that in general the employed end‐to‐end strategy is superior to the two‐step strategy. The CNN‐based integrated model successfully reduces potential errors in cross‐scale transfer and can be applied to other areas lacking information on hydraulic parameters or observations. The proposed method can be extended to improve parameter estimation in earth system models and enhance our understanding of key hydrological processes. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the sequential postoperative changes in tip aesthetics, by evaluating the aesthetic performance of the septal extension graft with or without tip grafting. Methods: A total of 62 patients who underwent rhinoplasty with tip plasty were included. Using a three‐dimensional scanner, we measured anthropometric aesthetic features of the nasal tip, including tip height, tip width, nasolabial angle, and columellar lobular angle. Preoperative and 1‐month and 12‐month postoperative anthropometric parameters were compared. The patients were grouped according to surgical techniques (i.e., septal extension only and septal extension plus tip grafting groups) and subtype of tip graft. Results: The 1‐month postoperative values of all four aesthetic features were significantly increased compared with the preoperative values. The tip height, tip width, and nasolabial angle at 12 months were significantly decreased compared with 1 month post‐operation values, whereas the tip height and width were still greater than the preoperative values. No difference was found between 1 and 12 month values of columellar lobular angle. There were no differences in the degree of decrease in tip height, tip width, nasolabial angle, and columellar lobular angle between the septal extension graft only and septal extension graft plus tip graft groups. There were no differences in the tip graft by subtypes, single‐ and multi‐layer tip grafts. Conclusions: Increased tip height, tip width, and widened nasolabial angle gained immediately after septal extension grafting surgery gradually decreased over the year regardless of addition of tip graft or tip grafting methods. Background: The use of synthetic computed tomography (CT) for radiotherapy treatment planning has received considerable attention because of the absence of ionizing radiation and close spatial correspondence to source magnetic resonance (MR) images, which have excellent tissue contrast. However, in an MR‐only environment, little effort has been made to examine the quality of synthetic CT images without using the original CT images. Purpose: To estimate synthetic CT quality without referring to original CT images, this study established the relationship between synthetic CT uncertainty and Bayesian uncertainty, and proposed a new Bayesian deep network for generating synthetic CT images and estimating synthetic CT uncertainty for MR‐only radiotherapy treatment planning. Methods and Materials: A novel deep Bayesian network was formulated using probabilistic network weights. Two mathematical expressions were proposed to quantify the Bayesian uncertainty of the network and synthetic CT uncertainty, which was closely related to the mean absolute error (MAE) in Hounsfield Unit (HU) of synthetic CT. These uncertainties were examined to demonstrate the accuracy of representing the synthetic CT uncertainty using a Bayesian counterpart. We developed a hybrid Bayesian architecture and a new data normalization scheme, enabling the Bayesian network to generate both accurate synthetic CT and reliable uncertainty information when probabilistic weights were applied. The proposed method was evaluated in 59 patients (13/12/32/2 for training/validation/testing/uncertainty visualization) diagnosed with prostate cancer, who underwent same‐day pelvic CT‐ and MR‐acquisitions. To assess the relationship between Bayesian and synthetic CT uncertainties, linear and non‐linear correlation coefficients were calculated on per‐voxel, per‐tissue, and per‐patient bases. For accessing the accuracy of the CT number and dosimetric accuracy, the proposed method was compared with a commercially available atlas‐based method (MRCAT) and a U‐Net conditional‐generative adversarial network (UcGAN). Results: The proposed model exhibited 44.33 MAE, outperforming UcGAN 52.51 and MRCAT 54.87. The gamma rate (2%/2 mm dose difference/distance to agreement) of the proposed model was 98.68%, comparable to that of UcGAN (98.60%) and MRCAT (98.56%). The per‐patient and per‐tissue linear correlation coefficients between the Bayesian and synthetic CT uncertainties ranged from 0.53 to 0.83, implying a moderate to strong linear correlation. Per‐voxel correlation coefficients varied from −0.13 to 0.67 depending on the regions‐of‐interest evaluated, indicating tissue‐dependent correlation. The R2 value for estimating MAE solely using Bayesian uncertainty was 0.98, suggesting that the uncertainty of the proposed model was an ideal candidate for predicting synthetic CT error, without referring to the original CT. Conclusion: This study established a relationship between the Bayesian model uncertainty and synthetic CT uncertainty. A novel Bayesian deep network was proposed to generate a synthetic CT and estimate its uncertainty. Various metrics were used to thoroughly examine the relationship between the uncertainties of the proposed Bayesian model and the generated synthetic CT. Compared with existing approaches, the proposed model showed comparable CT number and dosimetric accuracies. The experiments showed that the proposed Bayesian model was capable of producing accurate synthetic CT, and was an effective indicator of the uncertainty and error associated with synthetic CT in MR‐only workflows. The prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been rising due to sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy dietary patterns. Peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor α (PPARα) is a nuclear receptor regulating multiple biological processes, such as lipid metabolism and inflammatory response critical to cardiovascular homeostasis. Healthy endothelial cells (ECs) lining the lumen of blood vessels maintains vascular homeostasis, where endothelial dysfunction associated with increased oxidative stress and inflammation triggers the pathogenesis of CVD. PPARα activation decreases endothelial inflammation and senescence, contributing to improved vascular function and reduced risk of atherosclerosis. Phenotypic switch and inflammation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) exacerbate vascular dysfunction and atherogenesis, in which PPARα activation improves VSMC homeostasis. Different immune cells participate in the progression of vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis. PPARα in immune cells plays a critical role in immunological events, such as monocyte/macrophage adhesion and infiltration, macrophage polarization, dendritic cell (DC) embedment, T cell activation, and B cell differentiation. Cardiomyocyte dysfunction, a major risk factor for heart failure, can also be alleviated by PPARα activation through maintaining cardiac mitochondrial stability and inhibiting cardiac lipid accumulation, oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis. This review discusses the current understanding and future perspectives on the role of PPARα in the regulation of the cardiovascular system as well as the clinical application of PPARα ligands. Background: This study aimed to compare the cardiovascular safety of interleukin‐6 inhibitors (IL‐6i) and Janus Kinase inhibitors (JAKi) to tumour necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi). Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using population‐based electronic databases from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. We identified newly diagnosed patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who received b/tsDMARDs first time. We followed patients from b/tsDMARD initiation to the earliest outcome (acute coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure, venous thromboembolism and systemic embolism) or censoring events (death, transformation of b/tsDMARDs on different targets, discontinuation and study end). Using TNFi as reference, we applied generalized linear regression for the incidence rate ratio estimation adjusted by age, sex, disease duration and comorbidities. Random effects meta‐analysis was used for pooled analysis. Results: We identified 8689 participants for this study. Median (interquartile range) follow‐up years were 1.45 (2.77) in Hong Kong, 1.72 (2.39) in Taiwan and 1.45 (2.46) in Korea. Compared to TNFi, the adjusted incidence rate ratios (aIRRs) (95% confidence interval [CI]) of IL‐6i in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea are 0.99 (0.25, 3.95), 1.06 (0.57, 1.98) and 1.05 (0.59, 1.86) and corresponding aIRR of JAKi are 1.50 (0.42, 5.41), 0.60 (0.26, 1.41), and 0.81 (0.38, 1.74), respectively. Pooled aIRRs showed no significant risk of cardiovascular events (CVEs) associated with IL‐6i (1.05 [0.70, 1.57]) nor JAKi (0.80 [0.48, 1.35]) compared to TNFi. Conclusion: There was no difference in the risk of CVE among RA patients initiated with IL‐6i, or JAKi compared to TNFi. The finding is consistent in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. Amino acids are important biomolecules with a broad scope of applications in chemical and biological sciences. Their functions and properties depend on their absolute configuration. Therefore, methods for chiral recognition and separation of amino acids are highly sought after. For the purposes of diagnostic and medicinal applications chiral recognition of amino acids in water is particularly relevant. However synthetic receptors for enantioselective binding of amino acids in aqueous media are rare. Recently we reported a d‐glucose‐based crown ether for chiral recognition of amino acid esters in water. We achieved enantioselectivities towards amino acids with hydrophobic sidechains which were among the highest ever reported for a small molecule receptor. The binding affinities were however moderate. Herein we disclose analogs of that receptor, containing aryl functionalities in the crown ether fragment. Dry reforming of methane (DRM), which involves the activation of inert CH bonds and CO bonds, at mild conditions is a tremendous challenge. The sluggish mobility of oxygen during the reaction is known as a key issue causing low activity and poor stability of catalysts by the coke formation. Herein, a novel Cu‐CNN/Pd‐BDCNN photocatalyst that is made up of "Cu‐nanoparticle‐loaded g‐C3N4 nanosheets" and "Pd‐nanoparticle‐loaded boron‐doped nitrogen‐deficient g‐C3N4 nanosheets" is reported. The existing dual‐reaction‐sites benefit the reactive oxygen intermediates participate in the reaction directly without distant migration. The in situ characterizations and density functional theory calculations reveal a newly dual reaction pathway through simultaneous dehydrogenation of methoxy and methyl intermediates, and demonstrate the importance of metal loading, which promote the CO2 and CH4 activation from both aspects of thermodynamics and kinetics. The optimized Cu‐CNN/Pd‐BDCNN photocatalyst displays an excellent syngas formation rate of over 800 µmol g−1 h−1 with H2/CO = 1 and splendid stability in continuous flow reaction under 300 mW cm−2 xenon lamp irradiation at room temperature. Background: Few studies have evaluated the impact of subclinical microstructural changes and psychosocial factors on cognitive function in patients with haemophilia. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and characteristics of cognitive impairment in patients with haemophilia, and identify associated risk factors. Methods: We recruited haemophilia A or B patients who were aged ≥10 years old from three public hospitals in Hong Kong. A neurocognitive battery was administered to evaluate their attention, memory, processing speed and cognitive flexibility performances. They also underwent magnetic resonance imaging to identify cerebral microbleeds. Validated self‐reported questionnaires were administered to assess their mental health status and adherence to prophylactic treatment. General linear modelling was used to investigate the association of neurocognitive outcomes with risks factors, adjusting for age and education attainment. Results: Forty‐two patients were recruited (median age 32.0 years; 78.6% haemophilia A; 80.9% moderate‐to‐severe disease). Six patients (14.3%) had developed cerebral microbleeds. A subgroup of patients demonstrated impairments in cognitive flexibility (30.9%) and motor processing speed (26.2%). Hemarthrosis in the previous year was associated with worse attention (Estimate = 7.62, 95% CI: 1.92–15.33; p =.049) and cognitive flexibility (Estimate = 8.64, 95% CI: 2.52–13.29; p =.043). Depressive (Estimate = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.10–0.55; p =.023) and anxiety (Estimate = 0.26, 95% CI: 0.19–0.41; p =.0069) symptoms were associated with inattentiveness. Among patients receiving prophylactic treatment (71.4%), medication adherence was positively correlated with cognitive flexibility (p =.037). Conclusion: A substantial proportion of patients with haemophilia demonstrated cognitive impairment, particularly higher‐order thinking skills. Screening for cognitive deficits should be incorporated into routine care. Future studies should evaluate the association of neurocognitive outcomes with occupational/vocational outcomes. Background: Avascular necrosis (AVN) of bone is a debilitating complication of pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). While it is extensively studied and reported in Western population, studies focused on Orientals are limited. This study aims to evaluate the incidence, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of AVN among Chinese children with ALL. Methods: This study is a retrospective, territory‐wide population‐based cohort study of pediatric patients with ALL enrolled on one of the three consecutive ALL study protocols (ALL‐IC‐BFM 2002, CCLG‐ALL 2008, and CCCG‐ALL 2015). Results: A total of 24 out of 533 pediatric subjects with ALL (4.5%) had symptomatic AVN. Age was the single most important risk factor associated with the development of AVN. Only three patients were below age of 10 at the time of diagnosis of ALL. The incidences of AVN in patients aged above and below 10 years were 18.2% ± 3.6% and 0.8% ± 0.5%, respectively, and were significantly different (p < 0.005). Treatment protocol, immunophenotype, and gender were not predictive of AVN. Among the 24 patients, five required orthopedic interventions in view of progressive and severe disease. For subjects with hip joints involvement, follow‐up assessments showed 12 of 22 hip joints had radiological progression over a median duration of 3.63 years. Seventeen of them did not have pain at the latest follow‐up and among patients with pain (n = 7), five did not experience any limitation on activities of daily living while two required use of walking aids or wheelchair. Conclusion: The incidence of symptomatic AVN in Chinese ALL patients was comparable to other studies in Western population. Adolescent age more than 10 years old was recognized to be the most important factor for development of AVN. Heterogeneous photocatalysis have been deemed as a versatile and colorful platform for exploring efficient transformation systems. Henceforth, the design of photocatalysts underpins a wide range of research interests. By virtue of synthetic versatility, stability, non‐toxicity, purely organic properties, tunable semiconductive structures, and remarkable visible‐light absorbance, conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) have emerged as an attractive new class of semiconductor materials that show great potential for tackling important energy and environmental challenges. Over the past decade, immense efforts have been devoted toward the construction of CMPs‐based photocatalysts for versatile photocatalytic transformations. This review aims to summarize the latest representative advances in the field of carbazolic CMPs, focusing on various design strategies for the construction of tailor‐made skeletons that have direct impact on their charge dynamics and thus photocatalytic performances, especially on their specific photocatalytic efficiency for organic transformations. Scrutinizing the photocatalytic features and elucidating the related design principles, it is fully described how structure modification of polycarbazoles could have an effect on optical properties, and thus on photocatalytic performance. Background: Decisions to transplant organs from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) nucleic acid test‐positive (NAT+) donors must balance risk of donor‐derived transmission events (DDTE) with the scarcity of available organs. Methods: Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) data were used to compare organ utilization and recipient outcomes between SARS‐CoV‐2 NAT+ and NAT– donors. NAT+ was defined by either a positive upper or lower respiratory tract (LRT) sample within 21 days of procurement. Potential DDTE were adjudicated by OPTN Disease Transmission Advisory Committee. Results: From May 27, 2021 (date of OTPN policy for required LRT testing of lung donors) to January 31, 2022, organs were recovered from 617 NAT+ donors from all OPTN regions and 53 of 57 (93%) organ procurement organizations. NAT+ donors were younger and had higher organ quality scores for kidney and liver. Organ utilization was lower for NAT+ donors compared to NAT– donors. A total of 1241 organs (776 kidneys, 316 livers, 106 hearts, 22 lungs, and 21 other) were transplanted from 514 NAT+ donors compared to 21 946 organs from 8853 NAT– donors. Medical urgency was lower for recipients of NAT+ liver and heart transplants. The median waitlist time was longer for liver recipients of NAT+ donors. The match run sequence number for final acceptor was higher for NAT+ donors for all organ types. Outcomes for hospital length of stay, 30‐day mortality, and 30‐day graft loss were similar for all organ types. No SARS‐CoV‐2 DDTE occurred in this interval. Conclusions: Transplantation of SARS‐CoV‐2 NAT+ donor organs appears safe for short‐term outcomes of death and graft loss and ameliorates the organ shortage. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most lethal cancer worldwide. Glutamine is an essential, extracellular nutrient which supports HCC growth. Dietary glutamine deficiency may be a potential therapeutic approach for HCC. HCC cells overcome metabolic challenges by rewiring their metabolic pathways for rapid adaptations. The efficiency of dietary glutamine deficiency as HCC treatment is examined and the adaptation machinery under glutamine depletion in HCC cells is unraveled. Using genome‐wide CRISPR/Cas9 knockout library screening, this study identifies that pyruvate dehydrogenase α (PDHA), pyruvate dehydrogenase β (PDHB), and pyruvate carboxylase (PC) in pyruvate metabolism are crucial to the adaptation of glutamine depletion in HCC cells. Knockout of either PDHA, PDHB or PC induced metabolic reprogramming of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, disrupts mitochondrial function, leading to the suppression of HCC cell proliferation under glutamine depletion. Surprisingly, dietary glutamine restriction improves therapeutic responses of HCC to PDH or PC inhibitor in mouse HCC models. Stable isotope carbon tracing confirms that PDH or PC inhibitors further disrupt the metabolic rewiring of the TCA cycle induced by dietary glutamine depletion in HCC. In summary, the results demonstrate that pyruvate metabolism acts as novel targetable metabolic vulnerabilities for HCC treatment in combination with a glutamine‐deficient diet. Objective. This study aimed to examine the frequency and predictive factors of adverse oral and dental outcomes in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with the goal to address their unmet dental healthcare needs in the metropolitan city of Hong Kong. Methods. 238 RA patients followed up at local public hospitals were recruited in this cross-sectional study. A full dental examination was performed. Data were compared with the retrospective data collected from age-matched control groups in the community conducted in a territory-wide oral health survey in 2011. Predictive factors for severe periodontitis including various demographic and disease-specific factors were examined by multiple logistic regression analysis. Results. Loose teeth and gum bleeding were frequent dental complaints. Only 85.0% of RA patients had >20 natural teeth. Total edentulism was observed in 3.8% of patients, which was higher among adult (22–64 years) and elderly (>65 years old) RA patients than their respective age-matched community control groups. RA patients had a higher decayed, missing, and filled tooth score. Adult RA patients had a 5.3-fold increase in risk of severe periodontitis than their community counterparts. The plaque index was the main predisposing factor for severe periodontitis (odds ratio 17.5, p = 0.001), which was worse among the 22–34 age group of patients. More RA patients required tooth extraction compared to dental filling for their community controls. Conclusion. Severe periodontitis is a major cause of unmet dental healthcare needs among RA patients in Hong Kong. Overarm throwing is an essential fundamental movement skill (FMS). Competency in throwing is critical to encourage physical activity throughout lifespan. However, the segmental sequencing characteristics of skilled throwing to achieve maximum ball release speed are unclear. Further, the standard instructions for segmental sequencing in coaching manuals are anecdotal and not based on scientific evidence. Therefore, the aim of this study was to establish the critical features of upper‐body sequencing in skilled throwing for maximum speed. This would enable revised instructions for coaching throwing based on scientific evidence. The three‐dimensional kinematics of 144 right‐handed unconstrained maximum overarm throws were captured and analyzed. The quartiles of participants with the fastest and lowest ball release speed, normalized by height, were defined as the Skilled Group and Less Skilled Group, respectively. Paired t‐tests were used to determine the differences in times of successive events within groups and independent t‐tests for between‐group differences in temporal space between events for all sequences. A characteristic segmental sequence of each group was defined as a sequence with significant within‐group differences in two successive events (p < 0.001), while a critical segmental sequence was defined as a sequence with significant differences in temporal space both within groups and between groups (p < 0.001). The Skilled Group had six characteristic sequences, while two were found for the Less Skilled Group, summarized in the conceptual model. A single critical sequence of non‐throwing arm elbow extension prior to shoulder extension was found. The interaction of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection with extracellular vesicles (EVs) is of particular interest at the moment. Studying SARS‐CoV‐2 contaminated‐EV isolates in instruments located outside of the biosafety level‐3 (BSL‐3) environment requires knowing how viral inactivation methods affect the structure and function of extracellular vesicles (EVs). Therefore, three common viral inactivation methods, ultraviolet‐C (UVC; 1350 mJ/cm2), β‐propiolactone (BPL; 0.005%), heat (56°C, 45 min) were performed on defined EV particles and their proteins, RNAs, and function. Small EVs were isolated from the supernatant of SARS‐CoV‐2‐infected human lung epithelial Calu‐3 cells by stepwise centrifugation, ultrafiltration and qEV size‐exclusion chromatography. The EV isolates contained SARS‐CoV‐2. UVC, BPL and heat completely abolished SARS‐CoV‐2 infectivity of the contaminated EVs. Particle detection by electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking was less affected by UVC and BPL than heat treatment. Western blot analysis of EV markers was not affected by any of these three methods. UVC reduced SARS‐CoV‐2 spike detectability by quantitative RT‐PCR and slightly altered EV‐derived β‐actin detection. Fibroblast migration‐wound healing activity of the SARS‐CoV‐2 contaminated‐EV isolate was only retained after UVC treatment. In conclusion, specific viral inactivation methods are compatible with specific measures in SARS‐CoV‐2 contaminated‐EV isolates. The design of an efficient non-noble metal catalyst is of burgeoning interest for ammonia synthesis. Herein, we report a Mo2C/CeO2 catalyst that is superior in ammonia synthesis activity. In this catalyst, molybdenum carbide coexisted with the ceria overlayers which is from the ceria support as the strong metal–support interaction. There is a high proportion of low-valent Mo species, as well as high concentration of Ce3+ and surface oxygen species. The presence of Mo2C and CeO2 overlayers not only leads to enhancement of hydrogen and nitrogen adsorption, but also facilitates the desorption and exchange of adsorbed species with the gaseous reagents. Compared with the Mo/CeO2 catalyst prepared without carbonization, the Mo2C/CeO2 catalyst is more than sevenfold higher in ammonia synthesis rate. This work not only presents an explicit example of designing Mo-based catalyst that is highly efficient for ammonia synthesis by tuning the adsorption and desorption properties of the reactant gases, but opens a perspective for other elements in ammonia synthesis. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of nurse‐led consultations in patients with stable rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in Hong Kong. Methods: The present work was a single‐center, randomized, open‐label, noninferiority trial. Patients who had rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with low disease activity (LDA) were randomized at a 1:1 ratio to attend a nurse‐led consultation or rheumatologist follow‐up visit for 2 years. The primary end point was the proportion of patients whose RA remained at LDA. Secondary end points included the proportion of patients with RA in disease remission and the scores recorded on the Leeds Satisfaction Questionnaire at 2 years, changes from baseline on the Disease Activity Score in 28 joints using the C‐reactive protein level (DAS28‐CRP), modified Sharp/van der Heijde score (SHS), Health Assessment Questionnaire disability index (HAQ DI), Short Form 36 (SF‐36) physical component score, and 19‐item Compliance Questionnaire for Rheumatology (CQR‐19) score. Results: Among 280 patients who were randomized equally to either attend nurse‐led consultations or rheumatologist follow‐up visits, 267 patients completed the study. In the nurse‐led consultation and rheumatologist follow‐up groups, 92.1% and 91.4% patients, respectively, remained at LDA at 2 years. The 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) of the adjusted treatment difference were within the predefined noninferiority margin in both the intention‐to‐treat analysis (95% CI 5.75, 7.15) and the per‐protocol analysis (95% CI 1.67, 7.47). Although the changes in DAS28‐CRP score over 2 years were significantly different between the 2 treatment groups (P < 0.001), there were no significant changes from baseline in SHS, HAQ DI, SF‐36 physical component scores, and CQR‐19 scores. At the end of the study, more patients expressed satisfaction with nurse‐led consultations. A high‐throughput (105.5 g/h) passive four‐stage asymmetric oscillating feedback microreactor using chaotic mixing mechanism was developed to prepare aggregated Barium sulfate (BaSO4) particles of high primary nanoparticle size uniformity. Three‐dimensional unsteady simulations showed that chaotic mixing could be induced by three unique secondary flows (i.e., vortex, recirculation, and oscillation), and the fluid oscillation mechanism was examined in detail. Simulations and Villermaux–Dushman experiments indicate that almost complete mixing down to molecular level can be achieved and the prepared BaSO4 nanoparticles were with narrow primary particle size distribution (PSD) having geometric standard deviation, σg, less than 1.43 when the total volumetric flow rate Qtotal was larger than 10 ml/min. By selecting Qtotal and reactant concentrations, average primary particle size can be controlled from 23 to 109 nm as determined by microscopy. Given the expertise of parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), it is important to include their voices in disability legislation. Although, historically, parents of children with IDD have spearheaded disability policy, in the past few decades, parent legislative advocacy has been minimal. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of a legislative advocacy program for parents of individuals with IDD. Specifically, using an intervention and wait list control group, we sought to determine whether the legislative advocacy program resulted in increases in special education knowledge, empowerment, and civic engagement. We found that intervention (vs. the wait list control) group participants demonstrated significant increases in special education knowledge and empowerment. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether the 2017 European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR)/American College of Rheumatology (ACR) classification criteria for adult and juvenile idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) could appropriately classify the diagnosis in adult patients with anti–melanoma differentiation–associated protein 5 (anti–MDA‐5)–positive IIM. In addition, this study sought to determine whether a status of anti–MDA‐5 positivity could be incorporated into the EULAR/ACR IIM classification criteria set and whether the recently modified criteria based on the presence of myositis‐specific autoantibodies (MSAs) could be used to appropriately classify the diagnosis in patients with anti–MDA‐5–positive IIM. Methods: Consecutive adult patients clinically diagnosed as having anti–MDA‐5–positive IIM from 10 hospitals in Hong Kong were retrospectively recruited; patient characteristics were obtained from electronic medical records. We used a commercial line blot immunoassay to detect MSAs. We also determined a proposed set of phenotypic‐serologic classification criteria specific for anti–MDA‐5. Results: In the patient cohort (n = 120; 31.7% with dermatomyositis, 68.3% with clinically amyopathic dermatomyositis [CADM]), the diagnosis could be classified with the EULAR/ACR criteria in 86 patients (71.7%) and with the Bohan and Peter criteria in 49 patients (40.8%). However, when combined with criteria specifically modified for CADM, the diagnosis could be classified by the Bohan and Peter criteria in 76.7% of patients. We observed that the sensitivity of the EULAR/ACR criteria could be improved to 98.3% if anti–MDA‐5 antibody–positive status was considered as one of the criteria. The MSA‐based criteria had 100% sensitivity. When we applied our proposed specific phenotypic‐serologic criteria for the classification of patients with anti–MDA‐5 antibodies, 97.5% of patients were able to be classified as having IIM. Conclusion: In this cohort of patients with anti–MDA‐5–positive IIM, the diagnosis could not be classified by the EULAR/ACR criteria in almost 30% of patients. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has long been used to treat diabetes mellitus and angina. It has also gained widespread clinical applications in China as a common adjuvant treatment. Although there is high-quality evidence that TCM is effective in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, the cardiovascular protective effect of TCM in the treatment of diabetes mellitus has not been fully elucidated, especially in patients with both diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease (CHD). We systematically assessed the efficacy and safety of TCM for the adjuvant treatment of patients with CHD and diabetes mellitus and examined the pharmacological effects and potential mechanisms of TCM medication/herbs on diabetes mellitus with CHD. We found that TCM could improve the control effect of conventional treatment on cardiac function, hemorheology, blood glucose, blood lipid, and inflammation, thus reducing the frequency of angina and the incidence of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality. These findings indicate that TCM may be used as a complementary approach for patients with diabetes mellitus and CHD. Nevertheless, more rigorously designed randomized controlled trials and long-term evaluations are needed to support these findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Gestalt principles of perceptual learning elucidate how the human brain categorizes and comprehends a set of visual elements grouped together. One of the principles of Gestalt perceptual learning is the law of closure which propounds that human perception has the proclivity to visualize a fragmented object as a preknown whole by bridging the missing gaps. Herein, a letter recognition scheme emulating the Gestalt closure principle is demonstrated, utilizing artificial synapses made of 3D integrated MA3Bi2I9 (MBI) perovskite nanowire (NW) array. The artificial synapses exhibit short‐term plasticity (STP) and long‐term potentiation (LTP) and a transition from STP to LTP with increasing number of input electrical pulses. Initiatory ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations attribute the conductance change in the MBI NW artificial synapses to the rotation of MA+ clusters, culminating in charge exchange between MA+ and Bi2I93−. Each device yields 40 conductance states with excellent retention >105 s, minimal variation (2σ/mean) <10%, and endurance of ≈105 cycles. MBI NW‐based artificial neural network (ANN) is constructed to recognize fragmented letters alike their distinction in unabridged form and also the gradual withering of synaptic connectivity with engendered missing fragments is demonstrated, thereby successfully implementing Gestalt closure principle. Aims: To test the effectiveness of intractive, instant messaging chat‐based mobile phone support versus text‐based mobile phone support integrated with brief interventions on self‐reported smoking abstinence in workplaces. Design A two‐arm parallel cluster‐randomized controlled trial with follow‐up to 12 months. Setting: Seventy‐five companies in Hong Kong, China. Participants: Daily cigarette adult smokers (92.0% male, 90.9% not ready to quit within the next 30 days) from 75 companies (clusters). Interventions: Participants were cluster‐randomized to receive text‐based support (TBS, n = 375; 38 clusters) or chat‐based support (CBS, n = 304; 37 clusters). TBS participants received automated and fix‐scheduled text messages on cessation advice and support. CBS participants received fix‐scheduled text messages and additional real‐time psychosocial and cessation support via instant messaging services (e.g. WhatsApp) by counsellors. Both groups received a 1‐hour health talk at baseline and brief telephone counselling at 1 week and 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. Measurements: The primary outcome was self‐reported 7‐day point‐prevalence abstinence at 6 months post‐treatment initiation. Secondary outcomes included 7‐day point‐prevalence abstinence at 12 months, repeated 7‐day point‐prevalence abstinence, smoking reduction, quit attempts and intervention engagement, defined as having read text messages and/or engaged in conversation with counsellors. Findings By intention‐to‐treat assuming that dropouts were smoking, self‐reported abstinence was not significantly different between the CBS and TBS groups at 6 months [18.8 versus 21.6%, risk ratio (RR) = 0.87, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.61, 1.23, retention = 71.3%] and 12 months (21.4 versus 24.0%, RR = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.66, 1.21, retention = 70.8%). The repeated 7‐day point‐prevalence abstinence, smoking reduction and quit attempts were similar between the groups. The participants who were engaged in the text‐ and/or chat‐based interventions had greater abstinence (adjusted RR = 2.91, 95% CI = 1.87, 4.52) at 6 months compared with unengaged participants. Conclusions: Compared with a text messaging mobile phone intervention, a chat‐based instant messaging mobile phone intervention did not improve smoking abstinence over 12 months in workplaces. Aim: Psychological distress commonly occurs in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). The primary objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of depression in PsA. The secondary objective was to explore its associated factors, including socio‐demographics, disease activity data and comorbidities. Methods: Patients with PsA fulfilling the Classification Criteria for Psoriatic Arthritis were consecutively recruited from local rheumatology clinics. Depression was assessed by a self‐administered Chinese‐Cantonese version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Results: Two hundred and eight eligible patients with PsA were recruited, with 82 females and 126 males. Depression was found in 62 (29.8%) of them. The univariate model identified these associated factors: (1) Psoriasis Area and Severity Index score; (2) disease activity measurement, that is tender and swollen joint count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C‐reactive protein, Disease Activity in Psoriatic Arthritis (DAPSA) score, Leeds Enthesitis Index and tender dactylitis count; (3) quality of life measurement, that is Health Assessment Questionnaire ‐ Disability Index (HAQ‐DI), pain and general health perception; (4) PsA duration; and (5) body mass index. The final regression model identified DAPSA and HAQ‐DI were closely associated with depression, P =.007 and P =.02 respectively. Moderate and strong correlations with HADS score were found with DAPSA (Kendall's tau‐b coefficient [τb] = 0.25) and HAQ‐DI (τb = 0.4) respectively. No associations with depression were found between age, living and employment status, gender, demographics, inflammatory markers, disease duration, skin involvement and comorbidities, in term of Charlson's Comorbidity Index. Conclusion: Depression was prevalent among PsA patients and it was closely correlated with disease activity and physical function impairment. Achieving low disease activity and maintaining physical function in patients with PsA may mitigate the psychological burden. Aims: Angioimmunoblastic T‐cell lymphoma (AITL) is genetically characterized by TET2 and DNMT3A mutations occurring in haematopoietic progenitor cells, and late events (e.g. the RHOA‐G17V mutation) associated with malignant transformation. As TET2/DNMT3A‐mutated progenitor cells can differentiate into multilineage progenies and give rise to both AITL and myeloid neoplasms, they may also have the potential to lead to other metachronous/synchronous neoplasms. We report two cases showing parallel evolution of two distinct potentially neoplastic lymphoid proliferations from a common mutated haematopoietic progenitor cell population. Methods and results: Both cases presented with generalized lymphadenopathy. In case 1 (a 67‐year‐old female), an initial lymph node (LN) biopsy was dismissed as reactive, but a repeat biopsy showed a nodal marginal zone lymphoma (NMZL)‐like proliferation with an increase in the number of T‐follicular helper (TFH) cells. Immunohistochemistry, and clonality and mutational analyses by targeted sequencing of both whole tissue sections and microdissected NMZL‐like lesions, demonstrated a clonal B‐cell proliferation that harboured the BRAF‐G469R mutation and shared TET2 and DNMT3A mutations with an underlying RHOA‐G17V‐mutant TFH proliferation. Review of the original LN biopsy showed histological and immunophenotypic features of AITL. In case 2 (a 66‐year‐old male), cytotoxic T‐cell lymphoma with an increase in the number of Epstein–Barr virus‐positive large B cells was diagnosed on initial biopsy. On review together with the relapsed biopsy, we identified an additional occult neoplastic TFH proliferation/smouldering AITL. Both T‐cell proliferations shared TET2 and DNMT3A mutations while RHOA‐G17V was confined to the smouldering AITL. Conclusions: In addition to demonstrating diagnostic challenges, these cases expand the potential of clonal haematopoiesis in the development of different lineage neoplastic proliferations. Objective: Using diffusion‐weighted imaging (DWI)‐derived apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), we aimed to determine the relationship between intensity of spinal inflammation and mobility in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) in early and later stages of active disease. The Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS) was also used for a more comprehensive evaluation. Methods: Participants with axial SpA and back pain were recruited from 10 rheumatology centers. Clinical, biochemical and radiological parameters were collected. Short tau inversion recovery (STIR) sequence magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and DWI of the spine and sacroiliac (SI) joints were performed. ADC maps were generated. Participants were examined for Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index (BASMI). Linear regression models were used to determine associations between BASMI and various clinical, radiological, and MRI parameters in participants with active inflammation on spinal ADC maps. Results: One‐hundred and twenty‐seven participants were included in the analyses. Multivariate linear regression showed that mean ADC spine (ß =.16; P =.03), ASDAS‐C‐reactive protein (CRP) (ß =.29, P <.001), and ASDAS‐erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (ß =.25, P <.01) were associated with BASMI. In participants with duration of back pain ≤3 years, mean spine ADC (ß =.37; P =.03), ASDAS‐CRP (ß =.44; P =.01), and ASDAS‐ESR (ß =.42; P =.01) were associated with BASMI after adjustment for confounding factors. In participants with duration of back pain >3 years, only ASDAS‐CRP (ß =.25; P <.01) and ASDAS‐ESR (ß =.20; P =.20) were associated with BASMI. Conclusion: Intensity of inflammation and clinical disease activity were independently associated with impairment of spinal mobility.
