Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play a crucial role in development of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC),[1] which is considered the opposite pole of a continuous disease spectrum beginning with actinic keratosis (AK).[2] Ingenol mebutate (IM) is a diterpene ester extracted from the plant Euphorbia peplus, topically applied to AKs for its chemio-ablative and immunostimulant effect. Values are means ±DS from analyses performed on six AK-patients (before and after ingenol mebutate treatment) and seven healthy controls *P < 0.05 C-MSCs vs AK-MSCs; **P = 0.03; ***P = 0.01. gl Values are means ±DS from analyses performed on six actinic keratosis (AK)-patients (before and after ingenol mebutate treatment) and seven healthy controls *P < 0.05 C-mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) vs AK-MSCs. gl.
