ABSTRACT This study highlights the synergistic interplay between a Lewis acidic copper ion and a dissociated ligand from Cu(triNHC) complexes in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from CO2 and epoxy compounds. The reactions were found to proceed efficiently under Cu(triNHC)‐catalyzed conditions, yielding significant quantities of cyclic carbonates across various epoxy substrates encompassing amine, sulfide, and ether functionalities. Stereochemical analyses underscore a pronounced propensity for retaining the stereochemistry of epoxy compounds in the resultant carbonates. This suggests a mechanism involving double inversion of stereochemistry during the reaction, which comprises catalyst‐mediated epoxide ring opening, subsequent CO2 addition, and carbonate ring closing. The purpose of the analysis was to evaluate if 10 mg naloxone, administered intramuscularly, could reverse or prevent opioid‐induced respiratory depression (OIRD), including OIRD associated with the administration of lethal doses of high‐potency opioids. A naloxone population pharmacokinetic (PK) model was generated using data from two naloxone auto‐injector (NAI) clinical PK studies. Mechanistic OIRD PK‐pharmacodynamic (PD) models were constructed using published data for buprenorphine, morphine, and fentanyl. Due to the lack of published carfentanil data in humans, interspecies allometric scaling methods were used to predict carfentanil PK parameters in humans. A PD model of a combined effect‐compartment and receptor kinetics model with a linear relationship between ventilation and carbon dioxide was used to predict the respiratory depression induced by carfentanil. Model‐based simulations were performed using the naloxone population PK model and the constructed mechanistic OIRD PK–PD models. Changes in ventilation were assessed after opioid exposure and treatment with 2 mg naloxone or one or two doses of 10 mg naloxone. A higher percentage of subjects recovered back to the rescue ventilation thresholds and/or had a faster recovery to 40% or 70% of baseline ventilation with 10 mg compared with 2 mg naloxone. A second dose of 10 mg naloxone, administered 60 min post‐opioid exposure, expedited recovery to 85% of baseline ventilation and delayed time to renarcotization compared with a single dose. In addition, when 10 mg naloxone was administered at 5, 15, 30, or 60 min before fentanyl or carfentanil exposure, rapid and profound OIRD was prevented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The production of multi‐carbon compounds through CO2 photoreduction (CO2PR) holds great promise but faces challenges due to high kinetic barriers and the sluggish process of C‐C coupling. Overcoming these obstacles requires fine engineering of active sites. In this study, Ni active sites are engineered through the synergistic effect of metal‐oxo cluster (Mo7O246−) and hydroxyl vacancy (VOH). In contrast to the Ni sites unmodified with Mo7O246− and VOH, which are unable to produce multi‐carbon products, the constructed electron‐enriched Ni active sites exhibit an impressive selectivity of up to 43.02% and a high yield rate of 246.70 µmol g−1 h−1 for C2H6, which represent one of the best results for CO2PR to C2H6. Through a comprehensive investigation involving operando experiments and theoretical simulations, hydroxyl vacancy and the formed Mo─O─Ni bonds is demonstrated due to the filling of hydroxyl vacancies with oxygen atoms from Mo7O246− synergistically constructed electron‐rich Ni sites. Such Ni sites efficiently catalyze CO2 conversion to C2H6 by enhancing the adsorption of *CO, promoting subsequent hydrogenation, and enabling low energy barriers for CO2 hydrogenation to *OCOH and the coupling of *CH3 intermediates. Summary This study examined the impact of CO2 on the quality of onions stored at 23 °C for 6 weeks, focussing on bioactive compounds, antioxidant capacity, individual anthocyanins, flavonoids and anthocyanin biosynthesis during the storage period. The findings revealed that a 20% CO2 treatment was markedly more effective than the control in maintaining higher levels of phenolics, flavonoids, flavanols and anthocyanins. Moreover, the 20% CO2 treatment preserved significantly higher quantities of individual anthocyanins and flavonoids compared to the control. Throughout storage, the 20% CO2 treatment significantly boosted the activity of enzymes related to anthocyanin biosynthesis and sucrose metabolism relative to the control groups. In summary, the innovation of this study lies in the use of CO2 to maximise anthocyanin and flavonoid content in stored onions, which are usually diminished by extended storage at room temperature. ABSTRACT Sulfur dioxide is serious ultimatum to human health as well as environment, while carbon dioxide is viewed as one of the primary drivers of the worldwide temperature alteration. Therefore, capturing of these gases is a dynamic research subject attracting much consideration from scientists. Herein, we report synthesis of a series of Co‐ZIF and bimetallic M‐Co‐ZIF adsorbents and application for room temperature adsorption of SO2 and CO2. In this work, the breakthrough curves for the adsorption of sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide on Co‐ZIF and M‐Co‐ZIF were obtained experimentally and theoretically using a laboratory‐scale fixed bed column at room temperature. In this work, the adsorption capacities and breakthrough points for modified bimetallic M‐Co‐ZIF were found to be relatively higher than parent Co‐ZIF. Notably, a high SO2 uptake capacity of 7.1 mmol/g for Zr‐Co‐ZIF and high CO2 uptake capacity of 69.9 mmol/g for Ni‐Co‐ZIF were achieved. The parent cobalt and bimetallic ZIF materials were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, and nitrogen physisorption. The XRD results confirm the formation of pure phase highly crystalline ZIF materials while BET analysis suggests high surface area of prepared adsorbents. Finally, the results of dynamic adsorption combined with characterization show great potential for preparation of bimetallic ZIF adsorbents for effective SO2 and CO2 adsorption. The soft tick Ornithodoros turicata Duges (Acari: Argasidae) is a potential vector of African swine fever virus (ASFV). We evaluated the efficacy of two methods to collect soft ticks rapidly and efficiently from gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) burrows, which are ubiquitous throughout large regions of the southeastern United States and their burrows are a known microhabitat of O. turicata. Burrow vacuuming was an effective and efficient tick collection method; no tick was captured employing CO2 trapping. Using an occupancy modelling framework, we estimated that the probability of detecting ticks from an infested burrow each time a sample was taken with this method was 58% and increased with the average relative humidity. With the occupancy model, we estimated that 70% of the burrows in the study area were infested with O. turicata. Manual sifting of the burrow material yielded more ticks (6.6 individuals/sample) than using a set of three sieves (2.9 individuals/sample), yet the probability of detecting the species was not different between the two methods (Pval = 0.7). These methods can inform the development of ASF vector surveillance and outbreak response plans in areas of high risk for ASFV introduction in the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective Methods Results Conclusion Artery and vein (AV) clamps can control venous bleeding in the surgical field and prevent carbon dioxide embolism, especially when large veins are expected to open. However, whether AV clamps cause more renal damage than artery‐only (AO) clamps remains unclear. This study aimed to compare renal function and blood loss in surgeries using AO and AV clamps based on high RENAL nephrometry scores (RNS) in robot‐assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN).We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 500 patients who underwent RAPN between March 2016 and December 2021. We performed 1:1 propensity matching for these patients.A total of 340 patients with pathological malignancies who were followed up for at least 12 months were included in this analysis. A total of 291 patients with AO clamping and 49 patients with AV clamping were included. Overall, the AV clamp group had higher total RNSs and larger diameters than the AO clamp group. Propensity score‐matched analysis included 37 patients in each clamp group. The median warm ischemia times of the AV and AO clamps were 25 and 22 min, respectively, with no significant difference. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in the amount of blood loss, rate of acute kidney injury (AKI), or renal function at 1, 3, or 12 months post‐RAPN.Compared with the AO clamp, the AV clamp did not have a detrimental impact on blood loss or renal dysfunction. Comprehensive Summary The simultaneous construction of two vicinal C—C bonds in a molecule remains a significant challenge. In this work, we disclose an electroreductive carboarylation of activated alkenes under mild, transition metal‐free conditions. Utilizing readily available starting materials (electron‐deficient aryl bromides, activated alkenes, and CO2), this method demonstrates broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), as a promising strategy for storing renewable energy and promoting carbon resource recycling, is critical for industrial development. Previous reports have extensively explored catalyst‐electrolyte microenvironmental modulation to elucidate coupling mechanisms and enhance catalytic conversion to multicarbon products. Currently, most reviews mainly focus on the impact of microenvironment modulation in low‐current systems on mechanism exploration and performance optimization, yet few of them can integrate macroscopic applications with microscopic investigations to explore the relevance between industrial development and catalyst‐electrolyte microenvironmental optimization. To address the gap, this review focuses on summarizing the challenges and advancements in microenvironment modulation for the development of high‐current devices. By introducing models of different scales sequentially, the connection between microenvironmental modulation and device performance is clarified. Then, various invalidation mechanisms and effective solutions are summarized to intuitively expound the impact of microenvironment modulation on high‐current stability. Meanwhile, as an intuitive measure of the rationality of microenvironment modulation, evaluation methods of device performance should be refined, which are also covered in further detail below. Seawater carbonate chemistry observations are increasingly necessary to study a broad array of oceanographic challenges such as ocean acidification, carbon inventory tracking, and assessment of marine carbon dioxide removal strategies. The uncertainty in a seawater carbonate chemistry observation comes from unknown random variations and systematic offsets. Here, we estimate the magnitudes of these random and systematic components of uncertainty for the discrete open‐ocean carbonate chemistry measurements in the Global Ocean Data Analysis Project 2022 update (GLODAPv2.2022). We use both an uncertainty propagation approach and a carbonate chemistry measurement “inter‐consistency” approach that quantifies the disagreement between measured carbonate chemistry variables and calculations of the same variables from other carbonate chemistry measurements. Our inter‐consistency analysis reveals that the seawater carbonate chemistry measurement community has collected and released data with a random uncertainty that averages about 1.7 times the uncertainty estimated by propagating the desired “climate‐quality” random uncertainties. However, we obtain differing random uncertainty estimates for subsets of the available data, with some subsets seemingly meeting the climate‐quality criteria. We find that seawater pH measurements on the total scale do not meet the climate‐quality criteria, though the inter‐consistency of these measurements improves (by 38%) when limited to the subset of measurements made using purified indicator dyes. We show that GLODAPv2 adjustments improve inter‐consistency for some subsets of the measurements while worsening it for others. Electrochemical reduction of CO2 is an important way to achieve carbon neutrality, and much effort has been devoted to the design of active sites. Apart from elevating the intrinsic activity, expanding the functionality of active sites may also boost catalytic performance. Here we designed "negatively charged Ag (nc‐Ag)" active sites featuring both the intrinsic activity and the capability of regulating microenvironment, through modifying Ag nanoparticles with atomically dispersed Sn species. Different from conventional active sites (which only mediate the surface processes by bonding with the intermediates), the nc‐Ag sites could also manipulate environmental species. Therefore, the sites could not only activate CO2, but also regulate interfacial H2O and CO2, as confirmed by operando spectroscopies. The catalyst delivers a high current density with a CO faradaic efficiency of 97 %. Our work here opens up new opportunities for the design of multifunctional electrocatalytic active sites. The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is an appealing method for carbon utilization. Alkaline CO2 electrolyzers exhibit high CO2RR activity, low full‐cell voltages, and cost‐effectiveness. However, the issue of CO2 loss caused by (bi)carbonate formation leads to excessive energy consumption, rendering the process economically impractical. In this study, we propose a trilayer polymer electrolyte (TPE) comprising a perforated anion exchange membrane (PAEM) and a bipolar membrane (BPM) to facilitate alkaline CO2RR. This TPE enables the coexistence of high alkalinity near the catalyst surface and the H+ flux at the interface between the PAEM and the cation exchange layer (CEL) of the BPM, conditions favoring both CO2 reduction to multicarbon products and (bi)carbonate removal in KOH‐fed membrane electrode assembly (MEA) reactors. As a result, we achieve a Faradaic efficiency (FE) of approximately 46 % for C2H4, corresponding to a C2+ FE of 64 % at 260 mA cm−2, with a CO2‐to‐C2H4 single‐pass conversion (SPC) of approximately 32 % at 140 mA cm−2—nearly 1.3 times the limiting SPC in conventional AEM‐MEA electrolyzers. Furthermore, coupling CO2 reduction with formaldehyde oxidation reaction (FOR) in the TPE‐MEA electrolyzer reduces the full‐cell voltage to 2.3 V at 100 mA cm−2 without compromising the C2H4 FE. Hollow fibre membrane (HFM) is favourable for carbon dioxide (CO2) due to its high packing density and high volume to area ratio. In this study, the effect of air gap and bore fluid ratio is explored to study its influence on the morphology and separation performance. With high dope extrusion rate (DER), the shear‐induced polymer orientation can be preserved with low air gap which come with the cost of deformed lumen. As such, the coagulant activity of the bore fluid can be reduced by introducing solvent, which in turn reduces rate of phase inversion to prevent sudden contraction of polymer at low air gap, thus allowing proper formation of lumen. With the presence of solvent, the flowability of the dope solution increased due to reduced viscosity as the bore fluid with high solvent content make contact the external coagulant. HFM spun with low air gap with the presence of solvent in the bore fluid shows increased stretched ratio due to the influence of gravitational pull upon being extruded from the spinneret. This in turn improved the polymer chain orientation due to the stretch across the spinning line. Subsequently, HFM spun with 80 wt.% of N‐methyl‐2‐pyrollidone (NMP) in the bore fluid using narrow gap spinneret with 5‐cm air gap shows the highest ideal CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity at 23.4 and 28 respectively, even though it also exhibit the lowest CO2 permeance at only 3.1 GPU which was ascribed to the formation of dense skin layer. Meanwhile, when HFM was spun with a bigger annulus gap, the ideal CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity slightly dropped, however the CO2 permeance exhibit increment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An electrochemical cross‐electrophile coupling between allenoates and CO2 was targeted, allowing for the synthesis of both mono‐ and di‐carboxylation products in a catalyst‐ and additive‐free environment (yields up to 87 %, 30 examples). The mechanistic details of the asymmetric Ni‐catalyzed reductive cyclization/carboxylation of alkenes with CO2 have been revisited using DFT methods. Emphasis was put on the enantioselectivity and the mechanistic role of Lewis acid additives and in situ formed salts. Our results show that oxidative addition of the substrate is rate‐limiting, with the formed Ni(II)‐aryl intermediate preferring a triplet spin state. After reduction to Ni(I), enantioselective cyclization of the substrate occurs, followed by inner sphere carboxylation. Our proposed mechanism reproduces the experimentally observed enantiomeric excess and identifies critical C−H/O and C−H/N interactions that affect the selectivity. Further, our results highlight the beneficial effect of Lewis acids on CO2 insertion and suggest that in situ formed salts influence if the 5‐exo or 6‐endo product will be formed. Previous studies report contradicting age‐related neurovascular coupling (NVC). Few studies assess postural effects, but less investigate relationships between age and NVC within different postures. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of age on NVC in different postures with varying cognitive stimuli. Beat‐to‐beat blood pressure, heart rate and end‐tidal carbon dioxide were assessed alongside middle and posterior cerebral artery velocities (MCAv and PCAv, respectively) using transcranial Doppler ultrasonography in 78 participants (31 young‐, 23 middle‐ and 24 older‐aged) with visuospatial (VST) and attention tasks (AT) in various postures at two timepoints (T2 and T3). Between‐group significance testing utilized one‐way analysis‐of‐variance (ANOVA) (Tukey post‐hoc). Mixed three‐way/one‐way ANOVAs explored task, posture, and age interactions. Significant effects of posture on NVC were driven by a 3.8% increase from seated to supine. For AT, mean supine %MCAv increase was greatest in younger (5.44%) versus middle (0.12%) and older‐age (0.09%) at T3 (p = 0.005). For VST, mean supine %PCAv increase was greatest at T2 and T3 in middle (10.99%/10.12%) and older‐age (17.36%/17.26%) versus younger (9.44%/8.89%) (p = 0.004/p = 0.002). We identified significant age‐related NVC effects with VST‐induced hyperactivation. This may reflect age‐related compensatory processes in supine. Background: Identification of hypoxaemia and hypercapnia is essential for the diagnosis and treatment of acute respiratory failure. While arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis is standard for PO2 and PCO2 measurement, venous blood gas (VBG) analysis is increasingly used as an alternative. Previous systematic reviews established that VBG reporting of PO2 and PCO2 is less accurate, but the impacts on clinical management and patient outcomes are unknown. Aims: This study aimed to systematically review available evidence of the clinical impacts of using ABGs or VBGs and examine the arteriovenous difference in blood gas parameters. Methods: A comprehensive search of the MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane Library databases since inception was conducted. Included studies were prospective or cross‐sectional studies comparing peripheral ABG to peripheral VBG in adult non‐critical care inpatients presenting with respiratory symptoms. Results: Of 15 119 articles screened, 15 were included. No studies were found that examined clinical impacts resulting from using VBG compared to ABG. Included studies focused on the agreement between ABG and VBG measurements of pH, PO2, PCO2 and HCO3−. Due to the heterogeneity of the included studies, qualitative evidence synthesis was performed. While the arteriovenous difference in pH and HCO3− was generally predictable, the difference in PO2 and PCO2 was more significant and less predictable. Conclusions: Our study reinforces the notion that VBG is not comparable to ABG for physiological measurements. However, a key revelation from our research is the significant lack of data regarding the clinical implications of using VBG instead of ABG, a common scenario in clinical practice. To investigate the application of Ni3Al‐based superalloys in gas turbine cycle systems, this experiment exposed Ni3Al‐based superalloys to a 600°C/5 MPa environment with 99.995% pure CO2 gas. The corrosion and carburization behaviors and mechanisms were investigated in detail. The results reveal that with prolonged thermal exposure, the surface oxides of the samples tend to develop a continuous and homogeneous transition state alumina layer. This layer serves as a protective barrier, preventing the penetration and corrosion of external carbon‐containing and oxygen‐containing substances into the matrix. A small amount of carbon‐containing hazardous substances still penetrates the oxide layer or grain boundaries through highly diffusive pathways such as nanochannels, pores, and cracks, because the transition state of alumina is not completely dense. This leads to carbon deposition at the interface between the oxide layer and the matrix, where a mixture of alumina and amorphous carbon is formed at the interface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: How the cerebral metabolic rates of oxygen and glucose utilization (CMRO2 and CMRGlc, respectively) are affected by alterations in arterial PCO2 (PaCO2) is equivocal and therefore was the primary question of this study. Methods: This retrospective analysis involved pooled data from four separate studies, involving 41 healthy adults (35 males/6 females). Participants completed stepwise steady‐state alterations in PaCO2 ranging between 30 and 60 mmHg. The CMRO2 and CMRGlc were assessed via the Fick approach (CBF × arterial‐internal jugular venous difference of oxygen or glucose content, respectively) utilizing duplex ultrasound of the internal carotid artery and vertebral artery to calculate cerebral blood flow (CBF). Results: The CMRO2 was altered by 0.5 mL × min−1 (95% CI: −0.6 to −0.3) per mmHg change in PaCO2 (p < 0.001) which corresponded to a 9.8% (95% CI: −13.2 to −6.5) change in CMRO2 with a 9 mmHg change in PaCO2 (inclusive of hypo‐ and hypercapnia). The CMRGlc was reduced by 7.7% (95% CI: −15.4 to −0.08, p = 0.045; i.e., reduction in net glucose uptake) and the oxidative glucose index (ratio of oxygen to glucose uptake) was reduced by 5.6% (95% CI: −11.2 to 0.06, p = 0.049) with a + 9 mmHg increase in PaCO2. Conclusion: Collectively, the CMRO2 is altered by approximately 1% per mmHg change in PaCO2. Further, glucose is incompletely oxidized during hypercapnia, indicating reductions in CMRO2 are either met by compensatory increases in nonoxidative glucose metabolism or explained by a reduction in total energy production. Background: The global incidence of liver diseases is rising, yet there remains a dearth of precise research models to mimic these diseases. The use of normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) to study diseased livers recovered from liver transplantation (LT) recipients presents a promising avenue. Accordingly, we have developed a machine perfusion system tailored specifically for the human whole diseased livers and present our experience from the NMP of diseased livers. Methods: Six diseased livers recovered from LT recipients with different diagnoses were collected. The diseased livers were connected to the machine perfusion system that circulated tailored perfusate, providing oxygen and nutrients. The pressure and flow of the system were recorded, and blood gas analysis and laboratory tests of perfusate and bile were examined to analyze the function of the diseased livers. Liver tissues before and after NMP were collected for histological analysis. Results: Experiments showed that the system maintained the diseased livers in a physiological state, ensuring stable hemodynamics and a suitable partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide. The results of blood gas analysis and laboratory tests demonstrated a restoration and sustenance of metabolism with minimal damage. Notably, a majority of the diseased livers exhibited bile production continuously, signifying their vivid functional integrity. The pathological characteristics remained stable before and after NMP. Conclusion: We successfully established the machine perfusion system tailored specifically for diseased human whole livers. Through the application of this system, we have developed a novel in vitro model that faithfully recapitulates the main features of human liver disease. This model holds immense promise as an advanced disease modeling platform, offering profound insights into liver diseases and potential implications for research and therapeutic development. A short period of exposure to elevated CO2 is known to decrease evapotranspiration via stomatal closure. Based on theoretical evaluation of a canopy transpiration model, we hypothesized that this decrease in the evapotranspiration of rice under elevated CO2 was greater under higher temperature conditions due to an increased sensitivity of transpiration to changes in CO2 induced by the greater vapour pressure deficit. In a temperature gradient chamber‐based experiment, a 200 ppm increase in CO2 concentration led to 0.4 mm (−7%) and 1.5 mm (−15%) decreases in 12 h evapotranspiration under ambient temperature and high temperature (+3.7°C) conditions, respectively. Model simulations revealed that the greater vapour pressure deficit under higher temperature conditions explained the variations in the reduction of evapotranspiration observed under elevated CO2 levels between the temperature treatments. Understanding the short‐term responses of mesophyll conductance (gm) and stomatal conductance (gsc) to environmental changes remains a challenging yet central aspect of plant physiology. This review synthesises our current knowledge of these short‐term responses, which underpin CO2 diffusion within leaves. Recent methodological advances in measuring gm using online isotopic discrimination and chlorophyll fluorescence have improved our confidence in detecting short‐term gm responses, but results need to be carefully evaluated. Environmental factors like vapour pressure deficit and CO2 concentration indirectly impact gm through gsc changes, highlighting some of the complex interactions between the two parameters. Stomata are micropores on the leaf epidermis that allow carbon dioxide (CO2) uptake for photosynthesis at the expense of water loss through transpiration. Stomata coordinate the plant gas exchange of carbon and water with the atmosphere through their opening and closing dynamics. In the context of global climate change, it is essential to better understand the mechanism of stomatal movements under different environmental stimuli. Aquaporins (AQPs) are considered important regulators of stomatal movements by contributing to membrane diffusion of water, CO2 and hydrogen peroxide. This review compiles the most recent findings and discusses future directions to update our knowledge of the role of AQPs in stomatal movements. After highlighting the role of subsidiary cells (SCs), which contribute to the high water use efficiency of grass stomata, we explore the expression of AQP genes in guard cells and SCs. We then focus on the cellular regulation of AQP activity at the protein level in stomata. After introducing their post‐translational modifications, we detail their trafficking as well as their physical interaction with various partners that regulate AQP subcellular dynamics towards and within specific regions of the cell membranes, such as microdomains and membrane contact sites. Summary: Mesophyll conductance (gm) describes the ease with which CO2 passes from the sub‐stomatal cavities of the leaf to the primary carboxylase of photosynthesis, Rubisco. Increasing gm is suggested as a means to engineer increases in photosynthesis by increasing [CO2] at Rubisco, inhibiting oxygenation and accelerating carboxylation. Here, tobacco was transgenically up‐regulated with Arabidopsis Cotton Golgi‐related 3 (CGR3), a gene controlling methylesterification of pectin, as a strategy to increase CO2 diffusion across the cell wall and thereby increase gm. Across three independent events in tobacco strongly expressing AtCGR3, mesophyll cell wall thickness was decreased by 7%–13%, wall porosity increased by 75% and gm measured by carbon isotope discrimination increased by 28%. Importantly, field‐grown plants showed an average 8% increase in leaf photosynthetic CO2 uptake. Up‐regulating CGR3 provides a new strategy for increasing gm in dicotyledonous crops, leading to higher CO2 assimilation and a potential means to sustainable crop yield improvement. Technologies for capturing and storing carbon dioxide (CO2) and strategies for sequestering carbon dioxide have received a lot of interest in recent years as potential remedies for the curtailment of the growing concerns of emissions of greenhouse gases and global warming. This article provides a comprehensive analysis on the trends in research and development in the area of CO2 carbon capture and sequestration at the moment. The review explores various technological approaches for capturing CO2 from industrial emissions, such as post‐combustion capture systems, pre‐combustion capture systems, and oxy‐fuel combustion system. It also gives a major insight into the post‐combustion capture of carbon by means of a summary, information obtained via a personal interview with a Combustion Based Unit (CBU) plant manager. Additionally, different methods for storing and sequestering the aforementioned gas, including geological and oceanic archiving, and mineralization, are examined. By synthesizing the findings from a wide range of studies and research papers, this literature review provides valuable insights into the current technologies for CO2 capture, storage, and sequestration, contributing to the ongoing efforts in addressing climate change and achieving sustainable development goals. Electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 into high energy‐density fuels and value‐added chemicals under mild conditions can promote the sustainable cycle of carbon and decrease current energy and environmental problems. Constructing electrocatalyst with high activity, selectivity, stability, and low cost is really matter to realize industrial application of electrocatalytic CO2 reduction (ECR). Metal–nitrogen–carbon (M–N–C), especially Ni–N–C, display excellent performance, such as nearly 100% CO selectivity, high current density, outstanding tolerance, etc., which is considered to possess broad application prospects. Based on the current research status, starting from the mechanism of ECR and the existence form of Ni active species, the latest research progress of Ni–N–C electrocatalysts in CO2 electroreduction is systematically summarized. An overview is emphatically interpreted on the regulatory strategies for activity optimization over Ni–N–C, including N coordination modulation, vacancy defects construction, morphology design, surface modification, heteroatom activation, and bimetallic cooperation. Finally, some urgent problems and future prospects on designing Ni–N–C catalysts for ECR are discussed. Solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs), displaying high current density and energy efficiency, have been proven to be an effective technique to electrochemically reduce CO2 into CO. However, the insufficiency of cathode activity and stability is a tricky problem to be addressed for SOECs. Hence, it is urgent to develop suitable cathode materials with excellent catalytic activity and stability for further practical application of SOECs. Herein, a reduced perovskite oxide, Pr0.35Sr0.6Fe0.7Cu0.2Mo0.1O3‐δ (PSFCM0.35), is developed as SOECs cathode to electrolyze CO2. After reduction in 10% H2/Ar, Cu and Fe nanoparticles are exsolved from the PSFCM0.35 lattice, resulting in a phase transformation from cubic perovskite to Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) perovskite with more oxygen vacancies. The exsolved metal nanoparticles are tightly attached to the perovskite substrate and afford more active sites to accelerate CO2 adsorption and dissociation on the cathode surface. The significantly strengthened CO2 adsorption capacity obtained after reduction is demonstrated by in situ Fourier transform‐infrared (FT‐IR) spectra. Symmetric cells with the reduced PSFCM0.35 (R‐PSFCM0.35) electrode exhibit a low polarization resistance of 0.43 Ω cm2 at 850 °C. Single electrolysis cells with the R‐PSFCM0.35 cathode display an outstanding current density of 2947 mA cm−2 at 850 °C and 1.6 V. Dry ice is one of the world's most in‐demand commodities for cold chain distribution of temperature sensitive products in insulated shippers. A commonly used rule of thumb is that dry ice sublimates about 8% every 24 h, without consideration for dry ice type, size, or geometry. This study explored sublimation rates of dry ice composition (binding agent and density), age, and geometry (size and shape). Dry ice block manufacturing often involves dosing propylene glycol‐water "binder" solution to liquid carbon dioxide. Tests performed in this study revealed that the binding agent did not influence the dry ice sublimation rate. Dry ice density was found to impact sublimation rate. Fresh and aged blocks of similar dimensions and mass were found to have similar performance outcomes. Mass loss curves for pellets and various sized dry ice blocks showed a dependence on surface area and volume. Chunked blocks and pellets with and without binding agent sublimated at similar rates of 2.84 and 2.53% h−1 (w/w), respectively, whereas block varieties with significantly lower surface area to volume ratios had lower sublimation rates of 0.98–1.60% h−1. Rationale: Dual clumped isotope paleothermometry determines carbonate formation temperatures by measuring the frequency of 13C–18O (∆638) and 18O–18O (∆828) pairs in carbonates. It resolves isotopic kinetic biases and thus enables more accurate paleotemperature reconstructions. However, high‐precision measurements of 18O–18O clumping using current techniques requires large sample sizes and long acquisition times. Methods: We developed a mid‐infrared isotope ratio laser spectrometer (IRLS) for simultaneous measurement of the isotopologue ratios ∆638 and ∆828 in gas‐phase carbon dioxide (CO2) at room temperature. Our IRLS uses a single laser scanning from 2290.7 to 2291.1 cm−1 and a 31 m pathlength optical cell, and it simultaneously measures the five isotopologues required for calculating ∆638 and ∆828: 16O12C16O, 16O13C16O, 16O12C18O, 16O13C18O, and 18O12C18O. In addition, our IRLS can measure 16O12C17O, enabling ∆17O analysis. Results: At ~20°C and a CO2 pressure of ~2 Torr, our IRLS system achieved precisions of 0.128‰ and 0.140‰ within 20 s for abundances of the clumped isotopologues 16O13C18O and 18O12C18O, respectively, and precisions of 0.267‰, 0.245‰, and 0.128‰ for 16O12C16O, 16O13C16O, and 16O12C18O. This yielded precisions of 0.348‰ (∆638) and 0.302‰ (∆828) within 25 s. Simulated sample–reference switching highlights the potential of our system and the need for further development. Conclusions: We demonstrated simultaneous measurements of ∆638 and ∆828 in CO2 to precisions of <0.35‰ within 25 s using a room‐temperature, single‐laser IRLS. Aim Methods Results Conclusion Poor cardiorespiratory fitness has been suggested to increase the risk of chronic diseases in obesity. We investigated the ability of key variables from cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) to predict all‐cause mortality in an obese cohort.The sample included 469 participants of both sexes (mean age 40 ± 13 years) who underwent a CPET for clinical reasons between 1 March 2009 and 1 December 2023. All‐cause mortality was the prognostic endpoint. A receiver operating characteristic analysis was performed to establish optimal cut‐points for CPET variables. Kaplan–Meier and Cox regression analyses were used to determine the association between CPET variables and all‐cause mortality.There were 46 deaths during a mean follow‐up period of 69 ± 48 months, resulting in an annual mortality rate of 2%. Despite the sample being made up of mostly women (70%), there were more deaths in men (18 vs. 6%, p < 0.001).The optimal thresholds for discrimination of survival were as follows: (a) peak oxygen uptake (pVO2) ≤16 mL/kg/min; (b) minute ventilation/carbon dioxide production (VE/VCO2) slope ≥31; (c) ventilatory power ≤5.8 mmHg; and (d) circulatory power ≤2980 mmHg/mL O2/min. Kaplan–Meier survival plots revealed a significant positive association between lower pVO2, circulatory power and ventilatory power values and survival (log‐rank, p < 0.001) and higher mortality for men than women. Adjusted Cox regression models showed that a pVO2 ≤16 mL/kg/min had a 20‐fold higher risk of mortality when compared with >16 mL/kg/min.Given the strong association of VO2, ventilatory efficiency, circulatory and ventilatory power with all‐cause mortality, our findings support the notion that poorer cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with a poor prognosis in patients with obesity. Total alkalinity (TA) has increased in the Baltic Sea, with implications for atmospheric CO2‐induced acidification and CO2 uptake. We compiled extensive data of TA in surface waters of the Baltic Sea, aiming to (i) identify new tendencies in the relationship between TA and salinity (TA–S relationship), (ii) update the TA trend analysis, (iii) investigate spatial–temporal patterns, and (iv) discuss potential drivers and implications. We observed a progressive decrease in the slopes and increase in the intercepts of the TA–S overtime due to the persistent process of TA enhancement. A weak seasonal pattern was identified, with warmer months presenting lower salinity and TA. Lower rates of TA increase were observed in high salinities (Skagerrak–Kattegat; +1.00 to +2.20 μmol kg−1 yr−1), intermediate trends in low salinities (Gulf of Bothnia; +3.28 to +3.57 μmol kg−1 yr−1), and maximal trends in the Central Baltic Sea (+3.70 to +4.57 μmol kg−1 yr−1) and Bornholm Basin (+4.82 to +5.32 μmol kg−1 yr−1). The increase in the intercept of the TA–S in the Gulf of Bothnia suggests a progressive increase in the external supply of TA, although lower than previously thought. The maximum trend in the Bornholm Basin suggests an increase in external supply from the Southern catchment and/or the accumulation of internal production. The positive TA–phosphorus correlations underscore a significant internal source. The TA increase amplifies the CO2 uptake by 1.8–7.8% during spring/summer and reduces the CO2 outgassing by 3.4–7.7% in autumn/winter. Carbon storage technology is primarily targeted in saline formations, which is a porous rock matrix filled with brine, sealed with a low permeability caprock. There are significant variations of CO2 wetting properties, typically reported in the literature as contact angle of CO2 and brine interacting with a rock material, suggesting that CO2 could become wetting under geostorage conditions and negatively impact containment effectiveness. Here, we performed the first controlled laboratory measurements of CO2‐brine contact angles on shale rocks from low permeability sealing formations with distinctive mineralogic properties—calcite‐rich, quartz‐rich, and dolomite‐rich. We targeted temperatures at 40° and 100°C, pressures at 8.3, 34.5, and 62.1 MPa, and salinity at 35,000 and 260,000 ppm. Results show no significant change in contact angle with mineralogy, temperature, pressure, salinity, and CO2 bubble size. We conclude that caprocks will remain water‐wet at geologic CO2 storage conditions and will not lose their capillary sealing capacity. A supramolecular complexation approach is developed to improve the CO2 chemisorption performance of solvent‐lean amine sorbents. Operando spectroscopy techniques reveal the formation of carbamic acid in the presence of a crown ether. A series of new pyrazolate and mixed pyrazolate/pyrazole magnesium complexes is described and their reactivity toward carbon dioxide is examined. The dimeric complex [Mg(pztBu,tBu)2]2 inserts CO2 instantly and quantitatively forming the tetrameric complex [Mg(CO2·pztBu,tBu)2]4 and monomeric donor‐stabilized [Mg(CO2·pztBu,tBu)2(thf)2]. Complexes of the type [Mgx(pzR,R)2x(HpzR,R)y]n (R = iPr, tBu) engage in similar insertion reactions involving dissociation of the carbamic acid HOOCpzR,R. Even solid polymeric derivatives [Mg(pzR,R)2]n (R = Me, H) react instantaneously and exhaustively with CO2, the resulting [Mg(CO2·pz)2]m featuring a CO2 capacity of 35.7 wt% (8.2 mmol g−1). All described magnesium pyrazolates display completely reversible CO2 uptake in solution and in the solid state, respectively, as monitored via VT 1H NMR and in situ FTIR spectroscopy as well as thermogravimetric analysis. Fluorinated [Mg2(pzCF3,CF3)4(thf)3] does not yield any isolable CO2 insertion product but exhibits the highest activity in the catalytic transformation of epoxides and CO2 to cyclic carbonates. Gallium oxide‐based catalysts are promising candidates for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, whilst mechanistic understanding of the catalytic systems is not yet fully understood. Here, transient in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) studies of CO2 hydrogenation over the unsupported CuGa and CuGaN (with N doping) catalysts were conducted. The findings show that N doping could possibly promote the formation of surface Cu+ sites on the interface between Cu and Ga2O3, and hence increasing the selectivity to methanol. However, N doping prohibited the reduction of Ga2O3 to oxygen‐deficient Ga2O3‐x, which is unfavorable for CO2 conversion. Additionally, during DRIFTS the steady‐state isotope transient kinetic analysis (SSITKA) was performed (under H2/D2 isotopic switching conditions). The SSITKA results confirm that the Cu+‐bound formates were likely the key intermediates for methanol synthesis over the catalyst, and the N doping could also weak the interaction between CO* species and the catalyst surface, and thus facilitating the selectivity towards methanol rather than CO. A Cu/Co tandem catalysis protocol was developed to conduct the hydroformylation of olefins using CO2/H2 and PMHS (polymethylhydrosiloxane) as a readily available and environmentally friendly hydride source. A modified Metal‐Organic Framework UiO‐66‐NH2‐based photocathode in a zero‐gap gas phase photoelectrolyzer was applied for CO2 reduction. Four types of porous carbon fiber layers with different wettability were employed to tailor the local environment of the cathodic surface reactions, optimizing activity and selectivity towards formate, methanol, and ethanol. Results are explained by mass transport through the different type and arrangement of carbon fiber support layers in the photocathodes and the resulting local environment at the UiO‐66‐NH2 catalyst. The highest energy‐to‐fuel conversion efficiency of 1.06 % towards hydrocarbons was achieved with the most hydrophobic carbon fiber (H23C2). The results are a step further in understanding how the design and composition of the photoelectrodes in photoelectrochemical electrolyzers can impact the CO2 reduction efficiency and selectivity. A strategy of tuning azole‐based ionic liquids for reversible CO2 capture from ambient air was reported. Through tuning the basicity of anion as well as the type of cation, an ideal azole‐based ionic liquid with both high CO2 capacity and excellent stability was synthesized, which exhibited a highest single‐component isotherm uptake of 2.17 mmol/g at the atmospheric CO2 concentration of 0.4 mbar at 30 °C, even in the presence of water. The bound CO2 can be released by relatively mild heating of the IL‐CO2 at 80 °C, which makes it promising for energy‐efficient CO2 desorption and sorbent regeneration, leading to excellent reversibility. To the best of our knowledge, these azole‐based ionic liquids are superior to other adsorbent materials for direct air capture due to their dual‐tunable properties and high CO2 capture efficiency, offering a new prospect for efficient and reversible direct air capture technologies. A new nickel catalyzed cross‐electrophile coupling for accessing γ‐lactams (isoindolinones) as well as γ‐lactones (isobenzofuranones) via carbonylation with CO2 is documented. The protocol exploits the synergistic role of redox‐active Ni(II) complexes and AlCl3 as a CO2 activator/oxygen scavenger, leading to the formation of a wide range of cyclic amides and esters (28 examples) in good to high yields (up to 87 %). A dedicated computational investigation revealed the multiple roles played by AlCl3. In particular, the simultaneous transient protection of the pendant amino group of the starting reagents and the formation of the electrophilically activated CO2‐AlCl3 adduct are shown to concur in paving the way for an energetically favorable mechanistic pathway. Atomic Fe sites enabled electrochemical carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction (ECO2R) to carbon monoxide (CO) at low overpotentials. However, the narrow potential ranges for selective CO2 conversion on atomic Fe sites hindered the CO production at high current densities. Therefore, unveiling the CO2 electroreduction processes and clarifying the catalytic mechanisms on different atomic Fe sites are important for better design of atomic Fe catalysts toward efficient ECO2R. Herein, the ECO2R processes on single‐atom, dual‐atom, and cluster Fe sites are systematically investigated, and clarify that the balanced water dissociation and CO2 protonation on dual‐atom Fe sites promote the efficient CO production. The dual‐atom Fe catalyst achieves Faradaic efficiencies of CO (FECO) above 92% over a wide potential range of −0.4–−0.9 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode and maintains FECO of 91% after 153‐h electrolysis in H‐type cell. Benefitting from the favorable CO2 protonation for ECO2R on dual‐atom Fe sites, pH‐universal CO2 electroreduction is achieved in alkali‐/acid‐/bicarbonate‐fed membrane electrode assembly electrolyzer, with FECO exceeds 98% in strongly acidic/alkaline and neutral mediums. The work reveals a water dissociation‐promoted CO2 electroreduction on dual‐atom Fe sites and presents a feasible regulation of atomic Fe sites for highly active/selective ECO2R. Owing to the significant attention directed toward alloy metal nanoclusters, it is crucial to explore the relationship between their structures and their performance during the electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (eCO2RR) and discover potential synergistic effects for the design of novel functional nanoclusters. However, a lack of suitable analogs makes this investigation challenging. In this study, we synthesized a well‐defined pair of structural analogs, [Au8Cu1(SAdm)4(Dppm)3Cl]2+ and [Au8Ag1(SAdm)4(Dppm)3Cl]2+ (Au8Cu1 and Au8Ag1, respectively), and characterized them. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis revealed that Au8M1 (M=Cu/Ag) consists of a tetrahedral Au3M1 core capped by three (Dppm)Au staples, one Au2(SR)3 staple, one lone SR ligand, and a terminal Cl ligand. Ag and Cu were doped at the same site in the Au8M1 nanoclusters, which has rarely been reported. Au8Cu1 exhibited a significantly higher CO Faradaic efficiency (FECO; ~82.2 %) during eCO2RR than that of Au8Ag1 (FECO; ~33.1 %). Density functional theory calculations demonstrated that *COOH is the key intermediate in the reduction of CO2 to CO. The formation of *COOH on Au8Cu1 is more thermodynamically stable than on Au8Ag1, and Au8Cu1 shows a smaller *CO formation energy than that on Au8Ag1, which promotes the reduction of CO2. We believe that the structural analogs Au8Cu1 and Au8Ag1 offer a suitable template for the in‐depth investigation of structure‐property correlations at the atomic level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective Design Setting Population Methods Main Outcome Measures Results Conclusion To examine if peritoneal conditioning with an altered insufflation gas mixture is associated with reduced postoperative pain intensity compared to the standard insufflation gas (i.e., 100% CO2).A prospective, single‐centre, randomized, double‐blind, superiority trial was performed.This study was conducted between 4 April 2019 and 10 February 2022 at the Jessa Hospital, Hasselt, Belgium.Patients scheduled for elective gynaecologic laparoscopic surgery.Seventy‐four patients scheduled for elective gynaecologic laparoscopic surgery were randomised to receive either the standard insufflation gas with 100 CO2 (n = 37; control group) or the altered gas mixture of 86% CO2, 10% N2O and 4% O2 (n = 37; experimental group).Postoperative pain was assessed at 4, 8 and 24 hours after surgery and on postoperative day (POD) 7 by an 11‐point Numeric Rating Scale, with 0 indicating no pain and 10 indicating worst imaginable pain.No significant differences were found between the control and experimental groups regarding postoperative pain at 4, 8 and 24 h after surgery, as well as on POD7. In addition, the median (25% and 75%) total amount of IV piritramide consumption during the first 24 h after surgery was not significantly different between groups (control group: 18.0 [10.0, 27.0] mg vs. experimental group: 17.0 [10.0, 34.0] mg, p = 0.62).The alternative insufflation gas mixture comprising 86% CO2, 10% N2O and 4% O2 used for the pneumoperitoneum during gynaecologic laparoscopic surgery does not appear to reduce postoperative pain compared to the standard insufflation gas of 100% CO2. Mesophyll conductance (gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$) describes the efficiency with which CO2 ${\mathrm{CO}}_{2}$ moves from substomatal cavities to chloroplasts. Despite the stipulated importance of leaf architecture in affecting gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$, there remains a considerable ambiguity about how and whether leaf anatomy influences gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$. Here, we employed nonlinear machine‐learning models to assess the relationship between 10 leaf architecture traits and gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$. These models used leaf architecture traits as predictors and achieved excellent predictability of gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$. Dissection of the importance of leaf architecture traits in the models indicated that cell wall thickness and chloroplast area exposed to internal airspace have a large impact on interspecific variation in gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$. Additionally, other leaf architecture traits, such as leaf thickness, leaf density and chloroplast thickness, emerged as important predictors of gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$. We also found significant differences in the predictability between models trained on different plant functional types. Therefore, by moving beyond simple linear and exponential models, our analyses demonstrated that a larger suite of leaf architecture traits drive differences in gm ${g}_{{\rm{m}}}$ than has been previously acknowledged. We investigated supported‐MoO3 materials effective for the chemical looping dry reforming of methane (CL–DRM) to decrease the reaction temperature. Ni‐modified molybdenum zirconia (Ni/MoO3/ZrO2) showed CL–DRM activity under isothermal reaction conditions of 650 °C, which was 100–200 °C lower than the previously reported oxide‐based materials. Ni/MoO3/ZrO2 activity strongly depends on the MoO3 loading amount. The optimal loading amount was 9.0 wt.% (Ni/MoO3(9.0)/ZrO2), wherein two‐dimensional polymolybdate species were dominantly formed. Increasing the loading amount to more than 12.0 wt.% resulted in a loss of activity owing to the formation of bulk Zr(MoO4)2 and/or MoO3. In situ Mo K‐edge XANES studies revealed that the surface polymolybdate species serve as oxygen storage sites. The Mo6+ species were reduced to Mo4+ species by CH4 to produce CO and H2. The reduced Mo species reoxidized by CO2 with the concomitant formation of CO. The developed Ni/MoO3(9.0)/ZrO2 was applied to the long‐term CL–DRM under high concentration conditions (20 % CH4 and 20 % CO2) at 650 °C, with two pathways possible for converting CH4 and CO2 to CO and H2 via the redox reaction of the Mo species and coke formation. Reducing CO2 emissions is an urgent global priority. In this context, several mitigation strategies, including CO2 tax and stringent legislation, have been adopted to halt the deterioration of the natural environment. Also, carbon recycling procedures undoubtedly help reduce net emissions into the atmosphere, enhancing sustainability. Utilizing Earth's abundant CO2 to produce high‐potential green chemicals and light fuels opens new avenues for the chemical industry. In this context, many attempts have been devoted to converting CO2 as a feedstock into various value‐added chemicals, such as CH4, lower methanol, light olefins, gasoline, and higher hydrocarbons, for numerous applications involving various catalytic reactions. Although several CO2‐conversion methods have been used, including electrochemical, photochemical, and biological approaches, the hydrogenation method allows the reaction to be tuned to produce the targeted compound without significantly altering infrastructure. This review discusses the numerous hydrogenation routes and their challenges, such as catalyst design, operation, and the combined art of structure‐activity relationships for the various product formations.
