Abstract

No standardized guidelines exist for infectious prophylaxis following pediatric auto‐HSCT. We hypothesized significant variation in clinical practice. Thirty‐three Pediatric Transplant and Cell Therapy Consortium centers completed a survey to assess institutional management. The majority utilize viral (91%) and fungal prophylaxis (94%), but duration varies. Bacterial prophylaxis during neutropenia is instituted by 42%. Our study demonstrates marked practice variability in infectious prophylaxis across centers. Additional research is needed to address patterns of infectious complications and to develop meaningful clinical practice guidelines for pediatric auto‐HSCT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In addition, many of the patients included in the study were far from their HCT and likely has better immune reconstitution than patients who are earlier on in their HCT course; immune reconstitution data were not available. Effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination in patients after allogeneic haematopoietic cell transplant: how much protection are we getting? Although the ability to develop COVID-specific antibodies after vaccination was higher in their control, immunocompetent group (98-9%), the majority of patients after HCT (77-6%) were able to mount an antibody response 28 days after the second dose.
