Background: Occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) is a prevalent, often chronic disease that poses a risk for job loss and decreased quality of life. In Germany, a multi‐step prevention programme emphasising early detection and highly specialised multidisciplinary treatment has been implemented with great success. Objectives: To examine the effectiveness of a Danish‐adapted version of the German prevention effort on OCD severity, quality of life and occupational consequences at 3‐month follow‐up. Methods: Randomised, controlled trial. Participants were recruited after the first referral from General Practitioner to Dermatologist with suspected OCD. The intervention group (IG) received a Danish‐adapted, multidisciplinary intervention, while the control group (CG) navigated the Danish healthcare system without interference from the study. OCD severity, occupational consequences and quality of life were assessed at 3‐month follow‐up using self‐reported questionnaires. Results: A statistically significant decrease in the severity of eczema was found at 3‐month follow‐up in the IG compared to the CG. The IG were statistically significantly more likely to have seen a dermatologist at 3‐month follow‐up. Higher treatment level in the IG was indicated by the results but was not statistically significant. No significant difference was found in quality of life or occupational consequences. The winter climate in northwestern Europe is commonly influenced by the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). Its intensity, expressed as an index (NAOi), has been suggested for use in assessing nutrient leaching from arable land to water and the effects of mitigation measures. We found significant (p < 0.05) positive linear relationships between NAOi and an air freezing–thawing index in central and southern Sweden for 2004 to 2016. This period covered winters with both extreme low and high NAOi. There were significant negative linear relationships between NAOi and a snow depth index. Management and nutrient leaching were studied simultaneously in two agricultural catchments (20.7 ha, code 11M; 788 ha, code M36) in southwestern Sweden. Catchments 11M (silty–clay soil) and M36 (sandy hills with a central, heavy clay plain) are both artificially drained. Total N and total P leaching increased significantly with winter (November–April) NAOi in both catchments. In contrast, leaching of dissolved reactive P (DRP) was not related to NAOi. The highest DRP concentrations were observed in connection with specific agricultural practices, whereas moderately elevated DRP concentrations were linked to snowmelt events. Concentrations of P in other forms (other P) were even more elevated (1.02 mg L−1) in 11M in winter 2014–2015, probably due to a large (32% of area) internal buffer (ley–fallow) in a central ravine being plowed down in autumn 2014. No general trend in P or N fertilization was found in catchment M36. Thus NAOi may be appropriate for use in trend analyses of nutrient load in the study region. The aim of our study was to assess the overall trends in the incidence of head-and-neck cancer (HNC) among Danish men and women in 1978-2007, to describe the distribution and incidences of HNCs at different anatomical sites, and to determine whether the incidence of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cancers is increasing. Data were extracted from the nationwide Cancer Registry database. To assess the possible impact of HPV infection, the sites of squamous cell carcinomas were categorized as HPV-associated, potentially HPV-associated or HPV-unrelated. In total, 26,474 incident cases were identified and the overall incidence increased throughout the period. Significantly increasing incidence rates were notably seen for tumors in the oral cavity (2.2% per year), tonsils (4.8% per year), oropharynx (3.5% per year) and hypopharynx (4.4% per year). A significantly decreasing incidence of lip cancer was observed among men (-5.0% per year). Cancers at HPV-associated sites ( n = 3650) showed strongly increasing incidence rates, primarily in individuals < 60 years. In contrast, HNCs at sites not related to HPV infection showed a significant decrease (in men) or virtually no change in incidence (in women). Our results suggest a marked impact of HPV infection on the epidemiology of HNCs in Denmark. HPV16 is the type most often found in HNCs; thus, the recent introduction of vaccination against HPV may in the future prevent HPV-associated cancers of the head and neck. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
