Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology 2012; 26: 131-139. Decreasing mother-to-child transmission is changing the population of children and adolescents with HIV. This project used recent epidemiological data to develop short-term projections of children and adolescents living with diagnosed HIV infection in New York State. A population simulation model was created to project prevalence of diagnosed HIV cases aged 0-19 years by age, sex, race/ethnicity and risk for years 2007-2014. Using 2006 data as the baseline population and 2001-2006 diagnosis and death data, annual diagnoses and deaths were calculated for each age/sex/race/risk category and known cases were 'aged' into the next year. The model produced annual estimates until 2014. The model predicts a decline in the number of persons aged 0-19 years living with diagnosed HIV in New York from 2810 in 2006 to 1431 in 2014, a net decrease of 49%. Living cases with paediatric risk continue to decrease. Cases aged 13-19 with non-paediatric risk increase slowly, leading to a shift in the risk composition of the population. The dominant effect seen in the model is the ageing out of perinatally infected children born before measures to prevent mother-to-child transmission were broadly implemented in the mid- to late 1990s. Changing trends in the young HIV-infected population should be considered in developing public health programmes for HIV prevention and care in New York State for the coming years. The article explores the semi-compliance and illegality of migrants in the labor markets in Great Britain. It discusses the various aspects of legality in the employment of migrants, and the functions of these aspects form the perception of the migrants, the employers and the state. The author had founded out from their interviews with the East European migrants and employers that the employers could distinguish the different types of illegality.

The article introduces the topic of illegal immigration and discusses reports published within the issue, including an article by M. Cvajner and G. Sciortino on understanding irregular migratory systems, another by M. Ruhs and B. Anderson on legal residents who are working in violation of employment restrictions attached to their immigration status, and another by K. Koser on the conceptual ambiguity of irregular migration.

In this paper I present evidence that Detroit African Americans are participating in a recent sound change which is typically associated with some White, but not African American, varieties in the American South. Although both Southern White and African American speakers monophthongize /ai/ in pre-voiced phonetic contexts ( tide ), the spread of the monophthongal or glide-reduced variant to pre-voiceless environments ( tight ) is a salient characteristic of some subregions of the Southern U.S. I report a leveling pattern in which /ai/ monophthongization has expanded to the salient pre-voiceless context in Detroit African American English (AAE). I explain this is in terms of a change in the group with whom African American speakers perceive themselves as saliently contrastive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There has been a substantial increase in demand for private domestic services throughout the European Union, and a significant proportion of these workers are non-citizens, many of them without documents. This paper addresses two questions: why is there an increase in demand for domestic workers in private households? and why is this demand being met by migrant women? While there are demographic and economic reasons for the former, the reproduction of lifestyle and status, and the avoidance of gender and generational conflict over domestic work are also important factors. Migrant labour is flexible, women are removed from family demands and can devote themselves to their employing family, moreover their 'race' and citizenship status differentiates them from their female employer.
