The interaction between linamarin (LIN), a cyanogenic glycoside, and human serum albumin (HSA) was studied by multiple spectroscopic techniques and molecular docking simulation. All measurements were performed under physiological conditions. The obtained results (including the binding constants, effective quenching constant and a number of binding sites) showed that the complex of HSA‐LIN is formed. The values of Stern‐Volmer constants (6.70×103, 5.53×103 and 1.95×103) indicate that fluorescence quenching of HSA was static. Results of site marker experiments showed that the binding site of LIN is mainly located in site I (subdomain IIA) of HSA. The thermodynamic parameters showed that binding process occurs spontaneously through hydrophobic interactions. Molecular docking results are in good agreement with experimental data. Furthermore, computational results revealed LIN binds in the cavity of TRP 214, that is, subdomain IIA (site I) of HSA. A proper understanding of excited state properties of indole derivatives can lead to rational design of efficient fluorescent probes. The optically active La$$ {L}_a $$ and Lb$$ {L}_b $$ excited states of a series of substituted indoles, where a substituent was placed on position four, were calculated using equation of motion coupled cluster and time dependent density functional theory. The results indicate that most substituted indoles have a brighter second excited state corresponding to experimental absorption maxima, but a few with electron withdrawing substituents absorb more on the first excited state. Absorption on the first excited state may increase their fluorescence quantum yield, making them better probes. Electronic structure methods were found to predict the energies of the systems with electron withdrawing substituents more accurately than those with electron donating substituents. The excited states of both states correlated well with electrophilicity, similar to the experimental trends for the absorption maxima. Overall, these computational studies indicate that theory can be used to predict excited state properties of substituted indoles, when the substituent is an electron withdrawing group. Detection of colorimetric signals is commonly used in various analytical methods and for testing in non‐laboratory and resource‐limited settings. The performance of colorimetric assays is largely based on nanoparticles and their unique optical properties. Multifunctional nanoparticles combining optical and enzyme‐like catalytic properties—known as nanozymes—hold great promise for analytical applications as signal‐generating labels. However, the extensive focus on the catalytic properties leaves their unique optical properties overlooked. In this article, the use of the optical and catalytic properties of nanozymes is reviewed for analytical applications relying on the inherent optical properties of nanozymes, the colorimetric detection of a catalytically‐formed product, and colorimetric changes of nanoparticles caused by the catalytically‐formed product. The impact of the extinction coefficient of nanozymes and reaction products, as well as the kinetic parameters of nanozymes on the sensitivity and limit of detection of assays, are quantitatively evaluated. Integrated modeling of the pharmacokinetic (PK) and target binding, by means of a TMDD model, can provide valuable insights into the expected pharmacodynamic (PD) effects of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Optimal characterization of the human PK and target binding for mAbs requires data obtained after intravenous (IV) administration which can be combined with subcutaneous (SC) data to further this characterization. Integration of free and/or total target measurements in a population TMDD model will allow quantification of target engagement which is the first step in the cascade leading to efficacy. However, the assays for determination of free target concentrations are analytically challenging and are inherently biased to overpredict the true concentrations in the presence of mAb:target complexes. For that reason, the objective of the current research was to evaluate the predictive value of free target concentrations in a TMDD model developed using PK and total target observations only. Further, a secondary objective was to demonstrate that prediction of SC data is feasible, based on an existing IV model and typical values of mAb parameters reported for SC absorption. GSK3772847, a human immunoglobulin G2 sigma isotype (IgG2f) mAb that binds to the extracellular domain of the interleukin‐33 receptor (IL‐33R or ST2) and neutralizes IL‐33‐mediated ST2 signaling, was used as a model compound for mAbs in this study. Arylethynyl‐substituted dipyrrolyldiketone BF2 complexes as anion‐responsive π‐electronic molecules exhibited characteristic electronic properties derived from conformation changes upon anion binding, which caused an increase in UV/vis absorption and associated two‐photon absorption. We herein report a fundamental mechanistic investigation into photochemical metal‐nitrenoid generation and inner‐sphere transposition reactivity using organometallic photoprecursors. By designing Cp*Ir(hydroxamate)(Ar) complexes, we induced photo‐initiated ligand activation, allowing us to explore the amidative σ(Ir–aryl) migration reactivity. A combination of experimental mechanistic studies, femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer enables the σ(N−O) cleavage, followed by Ir‐acylnitrenoid generation. The normalization of X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectra is required for comparing spectral features and extracting quantitative information in analytical techniques such as linear combination analysis, principal component analysis and multivariate curve resolution. Most published data are normalized to the edge‐jump, but normalization to the spectral area has also been applied. The latter is particularly attractive if only a small energy range around the absorption can be recorded reliably. Here, the two normalization methods are compared at the L3‐edge of Pt, Pd and Rh, and at the Ni K‐edge using experimental and calculated spectra. Despite clinical advances with protein kinase inhibitors (PKIs), oral administration of many PKIs is associated with highly variable plasma exposure and a narrow therapeutic window. We developed a novel hybrid nanoparticle‐amorphous solid dispersion (ASD) technology platform consisting of an amorphous PKI embedded in a polymer matrix. The technology was used to manufacture immediate‐release formulations of 2 tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), dasatinib and sorafenib. Our primary objective was to improve the absorption properties and reduce the pharmacokinetic (PK) variability of each TKI. The PKs of XS004 (dasatinib‐ASD, 100 mg tablet) and XS005 (sorafenib‐ASD, 2 × 50 mg capsules) were compared with their crystalline formulated reference drugs (140 mg of dasatinib‐reference and 200 mg of sorafenib‐reference). The in vitro biopharmaceutics of dasatinib‐ASD and XS005‐granulate showed sustained increased solubility in the pH range 1.2‐8.0 compared to their crystalline references. In vivo, XS004 was bioequivalent at a 30% lower dose and showed increased absorption and bioavailability, with 2.1‐4.8 times lower intra‐ and intersubject variability compared to the reference. XS005 had an increased absorption and bioavailability of 45% and 2.2‐2.8 times lower variability, respectively, but it was not bioequivalent at the investigated dose level. Taken together, the formulation platform is suited to generate improved PKI formulations with consistent bioavailability and a reduced pH‐dependent absorption process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to fully evaluate the radiation effect in existing cooling systems. The research, a combination of experimental analysis and numerical simulations using ANSYS Fluent, examines the complexity of radiative cooling processes and their impact on thermal management in various engineering applications. The experiments began by carefully placing a 112.5 W heater into the thermal channel. Next, temperature measurements were made under various conditions. In particular, the use of black cotton fabric as the inner duct lining applied in the thermal channel stands out as an innovation that aims to optimize heat absorption by increasing radiative properties. The findings highlight the significant impact of radiation on cooling performance. A temperature drop of 2–3°C was observed in cooling under the effect of radiation. Additionally, numerical simulations reveal the feasibility of radiative cooling systems by providing valuable information about the flow dynamics and heat transfer mechanisms within the channel. The novelty of this work is its detailed examination of radiative cooling effects and its focus on its potential to optimize thermal management strategies in various engineering applications. Explaining the role of radiation in heat transfer and providing practical information to improve cooling efficiency demonstrates that this research brings important insight and lays the foundation for future advances in the field. Considering the urgent need for energy‐efficient cooling solutions and the increasing demand for sustainable engineering practices, the findings of this study will provide important insights for researchers and practitioners. Predicting the angle‐resolved polarized Raman spectroscopy (ARPRS) response of anisotropic layered materials (ALMs) is the ultimate goal in the field of ARPRS research. So far, multiple physical mechanisms are studied on the representative black phosphorus (BP) to understand the intricate ARPRS response. However, the lack of a complete physical picture of the response modulation has hindered progress in response prediction. Herein, using BP as an example, a unified strategy for predicting the thickness‐dependent ARPRS response of ALMs is proposed. Crucially, with only one ARPRS measurement of a bulk ALM of interest, the response of nanoflakes of any thickness can be predicted. This is achieved based on the core concept of intrinsic Raman anisotropy (RA). Integrated experiments, analysis, and calculations reveal that the response of bulk BP is reshaped by the rarely noticed anisotropic absorption effect, which leads to an unique thickness‐independent constant modulation. Therefore, the interference‐free bulk counterpart of ALMs can serve as an ideal platform for accurately accessing intrinsic RA. The red macroalgae Porphyra, commonly known as Nori, is widely used as food around the world due to its high nutrient content, including the significant abundance of colored phycobiliproteins (PBPs). Among these, R‐phycocyanin (R‐PC) stands out for its vibrant purple color and numerous bioactive properties, making it a valuable protein for the food industry. However, R‐PC's limited thermal stability necessitates alternative processing methods to preserve its color and bioactive properties. Our study aimed to investigate the in‐situ stability of oligomeric R‐PC under high pressure (HP) conditions (up to 4000 bar) using a combination of absorption, fluorescence, and small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) techniques. The unfolding of R‐PC is a multiphase process. Initially, low pressure induces conformational changes in the R‐PC oligomeric form (trimers). As pressure increases above 1600 bar, these trimers dissociate into monomers, and at pressures above 3000 bar, the subunits begin to unfold. When returned to atmospheric pressure, R‐PC partially refolds, retaining 50% of its original color absorbance. In contrast, heat treatment causes irreversible and detrimental effects on R‐PC color, highlighting the advantages of HP treatment in preserving both the color and bioactive properties of R‐PC compared to heat treatment. Compound/silicon heterojunction (SCH) solar cells have been widely studied because of the low parasitic absorption of the window layer, high short‐circuit current, and simple preparation process. So far, most reported SCH solar cells are small‐area devices. By depositing MoOx hole transport layer using hot‐wire oxidation–sublimation deposition technique and employing a front‐contact back‐junction cell architecture, the large‐area SCH solar cells are successfully fabricated on M6 (166 mm) n‐type silicon wafers. Indium cerium oxide (ICO) film with the optimal thickness of about 110 nm is inserted between MoOx and Ag. The ICO/Ag stack functions well as a back reflector and is beneficial for increasing the short‐circuit current density, reducing the contact resistance, and improving the device stability. A power conversion efficiency of 21.59% is achieved on the champion SCH solar cell with the device area of 274.15 cm2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigates how various functional groups affect the adsorption of carbon dioxide (CO2) in pillar[5]arenes (P[5]A) at the aim of enhancing CO2 capture in P[5]A for environmental applications. Density functional theory (DFT) and density‐functional‐based tight‐binding (DFTB) methods were employed to investigate the adsorption behavior of CO2 in pillar[5]arenes (P[5]A) with various functional groups including P[5]A with methyl (P[5]A‐OCH3), aldehyde (P[5]A‐OCOH) functional groups and pillar[5]quinone (P[5]Q). Self‐consistent charge DFTB calculations have been performed using the DFTB+ code, with dispersion corrections included for van der Waals interactions, to ensure accurate results at a lower computational cost. Bader charge analysis have been carried out with VASP code to understand the interaction mechanisms and charge transfer between P[5]A and CO2. The study demonstrates that changing the functional groups of P[5]A affects CO2 adsorption behavior. Specifically, CO2 adsorption is more favorable at the cavity site of P[5]A‐OCH3 compared to other functional groups, due to the combined effects of weak hydrogen bonds and π‐π interactions. The calculated results shows that the functionalization is one of the beneficial factors for CO2 capture in pillararenes, the adsorption energy and configuration of adsorbed CO2 at P[5]A are affected by both the polarization and geometry of the functional groups. Furthermore, the density of states (DOS) calculations confirm that CO2 is only physisorbed in P[5]A, ensuring the reusability of pillararenes after desorption. This article discusses a school experiment on carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption as an example of gas absorption experiments in the classroom. The experiment aims to illustrate the process of CO2 absorption and consider relevant factors such as temperature and concentration. Students can use a newly developed measuring system to independently carry out and quantify the absorption process. The experiment highlights the interdisciplinary work between the subjects of Science and Technology and Chemistry. The text describes an experiment on CO2 absorption using a sensor box and Arduino measurement device. The experiment involves connecting the components, setting the parameters, and measuring the CO2 concentration. The results can be displayed on an OLED display and recorded on an SD card. The experiment explores the absorption process using different parameters such as absorption medium, concentration, temperature, and amount of absorbent. The experiment is flexible and can be used for industrial CO2 purification or atmospheric CO2 reduction. We study the Helmholtz equation with periodic coefficients in a closed waveguide. A functional analytic approach is used to formulate and solve the radiation problem in a self‐contained exposition. In this context, we simplify the non‐degeneracy assumption on the frequency. Limiting absorption principles (LAPs) are studied, and the radiation condition corresponding to the chosen LAP is derived; we include an example to show different LAPs lead, in general, to different solutions of the radiation problem. Chiral hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) have garnered considerable research interest in the field of optoelectronics, owing to their ability to integrate outstanding optoelectronic characteristics with distinct chiral or spin‐related properties. Although recent years have witnessed the rapid development of chiral perovskites, methods for producing perovskites with high absorption dissymmetry factors (gCD) enabling polarization‐resolved chiroptical applications are still lacking. This study introduces a strategic combination of dual spacer cations, i.e., achiral hexane‐1,6‐diammonium (HDA) and chiral 1‐(chlorophenyl)ethylammonium (ClPEA), for boosting the chiroptical performance of 2D lead iodide HOIPs. Interestingly, ortho‐ClPEA, incapable of forming 2D HOIPs independently, successfully creates 2D structures in collaboration with HDA, exhibiting CD signals aligned with the absorption characteristics of 2D HOIPs. This significant milestone leads to an outstanding gCD value of 0.018, positioning it among the top performers in the field of lead‐based HOIPs. Furthermore, this study demonstrates the fabrication of circularly polarized light (CPL) detectors with a photocurrent dissymmetry factor (gIph) of 0.12, utilizing the HOIPs with enhanced chiroptical activity. Small organic photothermal agents (PTAs) with absorption bands located in the second near‐infrared (NIR‐II, 1000–1700 nm) window are highly desirable for effectively combating deep‐seated tumors. However, the rarely reported NIR‐II absorbing PTAs still suffer from a low molar extinction coefficient (MEC, ϵ), inadequate chemostability and photostability, as well as the high light power density required during the therapeutic process. Herein, we developed a series of boron difluoride bridged azafulvene dimer acceptor‐integrated small organic PTAs. The B‐N coordination bonds in the π‐conjugated azafulvene dimer backbone endow it the strong electron‐withdrawing ability, facilitating the vigorous donor‐acceptor‐donor (D‐A‐D) structure PTAs with NIR‐II absorption. Notably, the PTA namely OTTBF shows high MEC (7.21×104 M−1 cm−1), ultrahigh chemo‐ and photo‐stability. After encapsulated into water‐dispersible nanoparticles, OTTBF NPs can achieve remarkable photothermal conversion effect under 1064 nm irradiation with a light density as low as 0.7 W cm−2, which is the lowest reported NIR‐II light power used in PTT process as we know. Furthermore, OTTBF NPs have been successfully applied for in vitro and in vivo deep‐seated cancer treatments under 1064 nm laser. Trees grow by coupling the transpiration‐induced nutrient absorption from external sources and photosynthesis‐based nutrient integration. Inspired by this manner, we designed a class of polyion complex (PIC) hydrogels containing isolated liquid‐filled voids for growing texture surfaces. The isolated liquid‐filled voids were created via irreversible matrix reconfiguration in a deswelling‐swelling process. During transpiration, these voids reversibly collapse to generate negative pressures within the matrices to extract polymerizable compounds from external sources and deliver them to the surface of the samples for photopolymerization. This growth process is spatial‐controllable and can be applied to fabricate complex patterns consisting of different compositions, suggesting a new strategy for making texture surfaces. This study presents a strategy for preventing and controlling rockbursts in deep and vast seams during the mining operation. We analyzed the main factors influencing rockburst by combining the geological structure of the rock mass with field‐collected microseismic monitoring data. Determined the disturbance strain sensitive threshold through mechanical experiments on coal's antidisturbance characteristics, the indoor pull‐out test of the supporting bolt was carried out. Studied the rockburst support technology and the antirockburst capability of the support system based on the energy method. The key governing variables of regional impact risk in the big buried deep coal seam operating face include high tectonic stress, goaf effect, fault, and fault protection coal pillar. The uniaxial compressive strength of the coal sample in the 3308 working face is 15.11 MPa, the antidisturbance strength is 10 MPa. When the extreme stress is 86.03%, the specimen fails; the ultimate failure strength under disturbance is 13 MPa. The support system's antishock ability is analyzed based on its energy absorption, under the premise of ensuring the support quality and support strength, the antiscour ability of 3308 Tailentry support meets the anti‐impact requirements. It is believed that the system offers adequate lateral confining pressure for the internal creep disturbance‐sensitive area, enhancing the area's resistance to disturbance. In this article, the axial crushing behavior of CoFeSiB amorphous alloy fiber reinforced epoxy composites (AAFRCs) with different fiber volume fractions (30%, 40%, 50%, and 60%), fiber orientations (0°, 15°, and 30°), and fiber shapes (straight and sinusoidal) were investigated under compression condition. The results show that energy absorption (EA) and crush force efficiency (CFE) of the composites show a tendency to increase and then decrease with the increase of fiber volume fractions. The appropriate increase in fiber orientation can improve the EA and the CFE of the composites. The EA of reinforced composites with sinusoidal fiber is 66% higher than that of the ones with straight fiber. Three damage modes were identified by combining the damage process images corresponding to the compressive load–displacement curves and the morphologies of the crushed composites. The EA mechanism of the new composites was analyzed by observing the damage process of the AAFRCs. Carbon fiber (CF)/polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) composites are exposed to Skydrol, a hydraulic fluid made of phosphate esters widely used in the aviation field. The present study investigates Skydrol absorption of CF/PEKK composite layups and the associated PEKK matrix. A significant unexpected increase of Skydrol uptake is observed for cross‐ply composites (0.50%) compared to unidirectional ones (0.06%), independently of ply number. The use of 'model' fluids like water and ethanol allows to identify the origin of this anomalous Skydrol absorption in the case of cross‐ply layup. We propose that the latter involves an imbibition process governed by the fluid surface tension and the presence of submicronic cavities. SEM imaging of composite cross‐section after ion beam polishing confirms fiber‐matrix submicronic debonding in the interlaminar region in the cross‐ply composite. SEM–EDX confirms the presence of Skydrol into the submicronic cavities. Despite this anomalous absorption, off‐axis tensile testing as well as ILSS testing show no significant impact of Skydrol on CF/PEKK mechanical properties with less than 10% difference compared to the initial values. Highlights This study presents STF/Fabric composite configurations by impregnating single‐phase shear thickening fluids (S‐STF) and multi‐phase shear thickening fluids (M‐STF) into aramid fabrics. S‐STFs were first prepared at different concentrations by weight (25%, 40%, 55%, and 65%). In addition, M‐STFs were produced by adding silicon carbide (SiC) additive to S‐STFs. As a result of the impregnation of the produced STFs on Aramid fabrics, 30‐layer composite samples were prepared. To determine the ballistic performance of the produced samples, tests were carried out with a single‐stage gas gun system. The shots were performed at an average velocity of 670 m/s. Ballistic tests show that STF‐impregnated fabric samples have better ballistic performance compared to fabric without STF. The STF65/Aramid sample is notable for a 238% increase in energy absorption. In addition, the STF40SiC10/Aramid composite sample produced with M‐STF was found to absorb 18.7% more energy compared to the STF40/Aramid sample. It has been confirmed that keeping the weight ratio of the additive at an optimum level will contribute to ballistic performance. These results contributed to determining the optimum concentration amount for STF/Aramid composites at high speed. S‐STF and SiC additive M‐STFs were produced. STFs were impregnated into 30‐layer Aramid fabrics. Ballistics tests were performed on S‐STF/Aramid and M‐STF/Aramid composite samples with a single‐stage gas gun system. The Pharmpy Automatic Model Development (AMD) tool automates the building of population pharmacokinetic (popPK) models by utilizing a systematic stepwise process. In this study, the performance of the AMD tool was assessed using simulated datasets. Ten true models mimicking classical popPK models were created. From each true model, dataset replicates were simulated assuming a typical phase I study design—single and multiple ascending doses with/without dichotomous food effect, with rich PK sampling. For every dataset replicate, the AMD tool automatically built an AMD model utilizing NONMEM for parameter estimation. The AMD models were compared to the true and reference models (true model fitted to simulated datasets) based on their model components, predicted population and individual secondary PK parameters (SP) (AUC0‐24, cmax, ctrough), and model quality metrics (e.g., model convergence, parameter relative standard errors (RSEs), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC)). The models selected by the AMD tool closely resembled the true models, particularly in terms of distribution and elimination, although differences were observed in absorption and inter‐individual variability components. Bias associated with the derived SP was low. In general, discrepancies between AMD and true SP were also observed for reference models and therefore were attributed to the inherent stochasticity in simulations. MIL‐53(Fe)‐GO composite photocatalysts were successfully fabricated via a simple solid‐phase synthesis strategy, and they were applied as efficient visible‐light‐driven photocatalysts for the oxidation of organic dyes and the reduction of Cr(VI). The experimental results demonstrated that MIL‐53(Fe)‐GO composites exhibit enhanced photocatalytic activities compared with the pure MIL‐53(Fe) sample. Based on the photoelectrochemical analyses, the loading of GO could enhance visible‐light absorption and accelerate the separation and transfer of charge carries, leading to the improvement of photocatalytic performance. Moreover, more intimate interfacial contact and active sites in the system could be achieved via a simple solid‐phase synthesis strategy. Gold nanoclusters exhibiting concomitant photothermy (PT) and photoluminescence (PL) under near‐infrared (NIR) light irradiation are rarely reported, and some fundamental issues remain unresolved for such materials. Herein, we concurrently synthesized two novel rod‐shaped Au nanoclusters, Au52(PET)32 and Au66(PET)38 (PET = 2‐phenylethanethiolate), and precisely revealed that their kernels were 4 × 4 × 6 and 5 × 4 × 6 face‐centered cubic (fcc) structures, respectively, based on the numbers of Au layers in the [100], [010], and [001] directions. Following the structural growth mode from Au52(PET)32 to Au66(PET)38, we predicted six more novel nanoclusters. The concurrent synthesis provides rational comparison of the two nanoclusters on the stability, absorption, emission and photothermy, and reveals the aspect ratio‐related properties. An interesting finding is that the two nanoclusters exhibit concomitant PT and PL under 785 nm light irradiation, and the PT and PL are in balance, which was explained by the qualitative evaluation of the radiative and non‐radiative rates. This review critically evaluates current in vitro gastrointestinal models for assessing infant formulas from a perspective focusing on a process along digestion, absorption and microbial fermentation. Despite their potential, none of the current in vitro gastrointestinal models fully considers the dynamics and continuous upstream‐downstream process of the human digestive tract. Considering the substantial differences between infants and adults, there is a pressing need for whole‐process gastrointestinal models tailored to infants. Developing such models is crucial for accurately assessing infant formula nutritional value and physiological function, enhancing the formulation of infant formulas to better meet the needs of infants. In this paper, a perfect absorber (PA) based on tungsten is proposed to include hexagonal‐shaped metasurface absorbers with varying hole sizes ranging from quadrangular to circular, allowing them to cover a wide wavelength spectrum. The study investigates the effects of various parameters, including the number of sides of the inner hole, on the absorber's performance and identifies the most suitable absorber by introducing an equivalent circuit. The outcomes of full‐wave numerical simulations primarily based on the finite element method (FEM) highly correspond to the final results of the circuit model. Additionally, the circuit model significantly reduces computation time and requires less storage compared with full‐wave simulations. The results show that the hexagonal‐square metasurface absorber achieves exceptional absorption rates, with an average of 99.9% in the 431 to 532 nm wavelength range and over 90% in the 300 to 915 nm range. The hexagonal‐hexagonal metasurface absorber also exhibits high absorption rates, with an average of over 99% in the 431 to 518 nm and 700 to 780 nm ranges, and over 90% in the 300 to 940 nm range. The absorption performance of the proposed hexagonal‐circle metasurface absorber is also remarkable, with an absorption value of over 99% in the 670 to 771 nm range and above 90% in the 365 to 991 nm range. These models can be utilized to design and simulate other subwavelength absorbers in a broad frequency range, including terahertz and visible light, making them suitable for various applications. Plasmonic nanoparticles play a pivotal role in various research areas due to their exceptional optical and thermo‐optical properties, like high spectral tunability and efficient light‐to‐heat conversion. Gold, with its biocompatibility, low cytotoxicity, and tunable resonances , makes gold nanoparticles ideal for photothermal therapies. Geometries, including spheres, core–shells, rods, disks, stars, nanocages, and nanotoroids, are extensively studied, with the gold nanodoughnut emerging as one of the most promising ones due to its ability to produce high temperatures and rotational stability. Nevertheless, the fabrication of metallic toroidal shapes remains a challenge. Recent advances in DNA‐based nanotechnology, especially DNA‐origami techniques, provide feasible route for the fabrication of this geometry through metallization reactions or attachment of metal nanoparticles. However, particles manufactured using this method possess a DNA core that influences their thermoplasmonic performance. In this work, a theoretical investigation is conducted on the thermoplasmonic response of DNA‐origami‐based core/shell toroids (CSTs) for photothermal applications. Key parameters that optimize the CST thermoplasmonic response are identified, and compared with their solid counterparts and discrete metallic coatings. Additionally, the CSTs tolerance to random rotations is assessed, providing insights into their behavior in fluidic environments and implications for its practical consideration. This study extensively characterizes the out‐of‐plane stiffness and energy harvesting capabilities of a newly proposed anti‐trichiral hierarchical auxetic honeycomb structure, both mechanically and deformationally. By introducing a design concept based on the anti‐trichiral honeycomb (ATCH), a structure with superior out‐of‐plane load‐carrying capacity and excellent auxeticity is achieved. To validate the finite element model, compression simulations are conducted. Comparative investigations into the morphing characteristics and energy harvesting performance between the novel structure and the ATCH are performed. Additionally, the influence of various parameters on the comprehensive performance of the novel auxetic structure is explored. It has been found that the angle φ is most sensitive to the auxetic properties, while the ratio k significantly impacts energy absorption. A new method for time‐resolved X‐ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy that enables faster data acquisition and requires smaller sample quantities for high‐quality data, thus allowing the analysis of more samples in a shorter time is introduced. The method uses large bandwidth free electron laser pulses to measure laser‐excited XANES spectra in transmission mode. A beam‐splitting grating configuration allows simultaneous measurements of the spectra of the incoming X‐ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) pulses and transmission XANES, which is crucial for compensating the pulse‐dependent intensity and spectrum fluctuations due to the self‐amplified spontaneous emission operation. The implementation of this new methodology is applied on a liquid solution of ammonium iron(III) oxalate jet and is compared to previous results, showing great improvements in the speed of acquisition and spectral resolution, and the ability to measure a large 2‐D spectral‐time map quickly. Summary: Objectives: To evaluate the impact of bariatric surgery on the pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters of orally administered medications and supplements. Methods: Systematic searches of bibliographic databases were conducted to identify studies. Pooled effect estimates from different surgical procedures were calculated using a random‐effects model. Results: Quantitative data were synthesized from 58 studies including a total of 1985 participants. Whilst 40 medications and 6 supplements were evaluated across these studies, heterogeneity and missing information reduced the scope of the meta‐analysis to the following medications and supplements: atorvastatin, paracetamol, omeprazole, midazolam, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, and iron supplements. There were no significant differences in PK parameters post‐surgery for the drugs atorvastatin and omeprazole, and supplements calcium, ferritin, and zinc supplements. Paracetamol showed reduced clearance (mean difference [MD] = −15.56 L/hr, p = 0.0002, I2 = 67%), increased maximal concentration (MD = 6.90 μg/ml, p = 0.006, I2 = 92%) and increased terminal elimination half‐life (MD = 0.49 hr, p < 0.0001, I2 = 3%) post‐surgery. The remaining 36 medications and 2 supplements were included in a systematic review. Overall, 18 of the 53 drugs and supplements showed post‐operative changes in PK parameters. Conclusion: This study demonstrates heterogeneity in practice and could not reach conclusive findings for most PK parameters. We numerically solve the acoustic radiative transfer equation for seismic S‐waves via Monte Carlo simulation. By assuming a von Kármán‐type random medium with anisotropic scattering, we are able to simulate a realistic medium and determine its attenuation properties. In this study, we present an improved method, called QEST, to determine the frequency‐dependent intrinsic and scattering attenuation by nonlinear envelope inversion for a 1‐D multilayer model. Additionally, the spectral source energy of earthquakes and the energy site amplification of stations are determined. The code was applied to real data from the northern and southern Leipzig‐Regensburg fault zone (LRZ), Germany, as well as fluid‐induced earthquakes at the Insheim geothermal reservoir, Germany. The attenuation was analyzed in several frequency bands between 4.2 and 33.9 Hz and between 6.0 and 67.9 Hz, respectively. The inversion results reveal that the crystalline crustal subsurface along the LRZ shows little to no depth dependence, but there are differences in attenuation between the north and south. At Insheim, the near‐surface sedimentary basin exhibits significantly greater absorption and scattering than the crystalline basement. The inversion also shows that isotropic scattering can be an oversimplification and thus underestimate attenuation. Plain Language Summary: Seismic attenuation is an important property of the subsurface. It determines the amplitude decay of a seismic wave emitted by an earthquake with time and distance. Seismic attenuation can be divided into scattering and intrinsic attenuation. Scattering is caused by small‐scale heterogeneities in the earth, while intrinsic attenuation is caused by anelastic processes such as internal friction. Differentiating between scattering and intrinsic attenuation poses a challenge. In this study, we present an advancement for the determination of seismic attenuation that considers the heterogeneity of the Earth's crust. We apply this new method to three distinct regions to assess the depth‐dependent scattering and intrinsic attenuation. The findings reveal that pure crystalline rock exhibits little depth dependence, whereas the attenuation properties of a sedimentary basin differ significantly from those of the underlying crystalline rock. Overall, quantifying depth‐dependent seismic attenuation enhances our ability to accurately estimate seismic hazards. BI 187004, a selective small‐molecule inhibitor of 11β‐hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase‐1 (11β‐HSD1), displayed complex nonlinear pharmacokinetics (PK) in humans. Following nine single oral doses, BI 187004 exhibited nonlinear PK at low doses and linear PK at higher doses. Notably, substantial hepatic 11β‐HSD1 inhibition (50%) was detected in a very low‐dose group, achieving a consistent 70% hepatic enzyme inhibition in subsequent ascending doses without any dose‐dependent effects. The unusual PK and PD profiles of BI 187004 suggest the presence of pharmacological target‐mediated drug disposition (TMDD), arising from the saturable binding of BI 187004 compound to its high‐affinity and low‐capacity target 11β‐HSD1. The non‐intuitive dose, exposure, and response relationship for BI 187004 pose a significant challenge in rational dose selection. This study aimed to construct a TMDD model to explain the complex nonlinear PK behavior and underscore the importance of recognizing TMDD in this small‐molecule compound. Among the various models explored, the best model was a two‐compartment TMDD model with three transit absorption components. The final model provides insights into 11β‐HSD1 binding‐related parameters for BI 187004, including the total amount of 11β‐HSD1 in the liver (estimated to be 8000 nmol), the second order association rate constant (estimated to be 0.102 nM−1h−1), and the first‐order dissociation rate constant (estimated to be 0.11 h−1). Our final population PK model successfully characterized the intricate nonlinear PK of BI 187004 across a wide dose range. An ultra‐wideband low‐noise amplifier (LNA) design was developed based on distributed network synthesis to achieve impedance matching of an active device by parasitic absorption. The equivalent device models of a low‐noise device were generated using negative‐image device modeling and traveling‐wave matching, and matching circuits were produced using the Chebyshev approximation. The minimum insertion loss and ripple of the matching networks were adjusted correctly to allow the parasitic absorption to match the device models. The graphite/Al2O3 composite was prepared using plasma spray technology, the material design, experimental methods, and process flow are introduced. The microstructure, chemical composition, and complex permittivity of the composite are investigated, and its performance to absorb electromagnetic waves is studied. The mechanism of interaction between chemical composition, microstructure, complex permittivity, and absorption performance is analyzed. Furthermore, a microwave absorber composed of graphite/Al2O3 and sheet resistance, and performance is discussed. The reflectivity of the composite coating with different periods and sizes and resistances is analyzed. The impedance and reflectivity of the designed absorber that contains sheet resistance are discussed, and its absorption mechanism is explained in detail. The results demonstrate that the microwave absorption performance of graphite/Al2O3 coating is enhanced by electromagnetic resonance of the sheet resistance. The designed absorber exhibits good wave‐absorbing performance and stability at the frequency of the 8.2–18 GHz range. When the sample thickness is 2.3 mm, the absorber achieves a reflection loss (RL) value of −16.8 dB at 9.8 GHz and a wide effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 9.8 GHz. It means that the RL below −10 dB can be obtained in the whole X band and Ku bands. These results proved that the EAB can be tuned and enhanced by manipulating sheet resistance. The structural uniqueness of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) has brought great potential for their applications in photocatalysis. Two novel azo‐linked COFs AZO‐B‐COF and AZO‐T‐COF were successfully constructed by the monomer exchange method. Significantly, two as‐synthesized azo COFs presented a much higher photodegradation rate of 96 % and 51 % for AZO‐T‐COF and AZO‐B‐COF, respectively, which was in sharp contrast to the almost 0 degradation rate of imine COFs. And as expected, AZO‐T‐COF could be cycled at least 5 runs without a significant decrease in catalytic efficiency. Systematical experiments and theoretical calculations showed that comparing with imine COFs, conjugated structure of azo COFs broadened the visible‐light absorption range and improved the transfer efficiency of the photocarriers. The N‐rich azo bonds acted as an electron acceptor and made the materials better planarity. This work not only enriches COFs family but also demonstrated the superiority of azo‐linked COFs. Two polyhedral silver‐thiolate clusters, [S@Ag16(Tab)10(MeCN)8](PF6)14 (Ag16) and [Ag12(Tab)6(DMF)12](PF6)12 (Ag12), were synthesized by using electroneutral Tab species as protective ligands (Tab=4‐(trimethylammonio)benzenethiolate, DMF=N,N‐dimethylformamide, MeCN=acetonitrile). Ag16 has a decahedral shape composed of eight pentagon {Ag5} units and two square {Ag4} units. The structure of Ag12 is a cuboctahedron, a classical Archimedean structure composed of six triangular faces and eight square faces. The former configuration is discovered in silver‐thiolate cluster for the first time, possibly benefited from the more flexible coordination between the Tab ligand and Ag+ facilitated by the electropositive −N(CH3)3+ substituent group. Third‐order nonlinear optical studies show that both clusters in DMF exhibit reverse saturate absorption response under the irradiation of 532 nm laser. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Three examples of meso‐triaryl trithiapentaphyrin(2.2.1.1.1)s 1–3 (Figure 1) that contains three thiophenes and two pyrrole rings connected via seven meso‐carbons were synthesized by condensing newly synthesized benzo‐fused trithiatripyrrane diol and appropriate meso‐aryl dipyrromethane under mild acid catalysed conditions in 5–8 % yields. In these macrocycles, two of the meso‐positions were fused with the benzene rings and the DFT optimized structural analysis revealed that the macrocycles adopt saddled conformation with the two thiophene rings oriented towards outside the macrocyclic core. HR‐MS and detailed 1D & 2D NMR studies were used in deducing the molecular structures of the macrocycles and NMR studies support their nonaromatic nature. The macrocycles exhibit one strong sharp absorption band at ~430 nm and a broad band in the region of 550–850 nm which were further red‐shifted to NIR region in their protonated derivatives. The macrocycles exhibit two reversible oxidations and one reduction and the redox data revealed that the macrocycles were easier to oxidize and were electron‐rich. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The defects in perovskite film can cause charge carrier trapping which shortens carrier lifetime and diffusion length. So defects passivation has become promising for the perovskite studies. However, how defects disturb the carrier transport and how the passivating affects the carrier transport in CsPbBr3 are still unclear. Here the carrier dynamics and diffusion processes of CsPbBr3 and LiBr passivated CsPbBr3 films are investigated by using transient absorption spectroscopy and transient absorption microscopy. It's found that there is a fast hot carrier trapping process with the above bandgap excitation, and the hot carrier trapping would decrease the population of cold carriers which are diffusible, then lower the carrier diffusion constant. It's proved that LiBr can passivate the defect and lower the trapping probability of hot carriers, thus improve the carrier diffusion rate. A novel kind of open‐shelled covalent–organic framework (TPAPL‐COF‐OX) is fabricated based on organic mixed‐valence (MV) systems, which is used for aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) adsorption and activation without the artificial energy consumption. The triphenylamine nucleus endow TPAPL‐COF with an abundance of nitrogen‐active sites. A mild oxidation process on TPAPL‐COF results in the generation of MV structures (TPAPL‐COF‐OX), enhancing its absorption capacity into the NIR‐II region. The nitrogen‐rich TPAPL‐COF‐OX exhibits exceptional adsorption capabilities for VOCs. Its broad light absorption spanning from UV to NIR‐II regions endow it with remarkable photothermal properties, enabling it to attain activation temperatures under sunlight without artificial energy consumption. MXenes, a burgeoning family of 2D materials with high conductivity and large specific surface area, are ideal electromagnetic absorbing materials. However, the ample polar functional groups lead to poor dispersion in the non‐polar matrix, limiting its application in non‐polar‐polymer‐based composites. With the help of the shear rheological properties of SiO2, the conflict is resolved here by directly dispersing MXene aqueous dispersion into the non‐polar resin. Water is locked dynamically through SiO2 nanoparticles among the MXene@SiO2 nanosheets, suppressing MXene's self‐restacking and aggregation in the resin matrix. Therefore, the fabrication of uniform MXene/non‐polar polymer composites is achieved. Meanwhile, this method allows different nanoparticles (Fe3O4, etc.) to be evenly dispersed among the MXene nanosheets to further improve the composites' electromagnetic parameters. The as‐prepared composites achieve remarkable absorbing performance with a low MXene concentration (≤5 wt.‰). The SMEP‐h achieves the maximum reflection loss value of over 60 dB at 12 GHz (at the thickness of 2.15 mm), and the SMEP‐F possesses a broad effective absorbing bandwidth of over 6.18 GHz (at the thickness of 1.75 mm). Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from ship exhausts pose serious health and environmental concerns. Herein, the SO2 absorption and desorption characteristics of tertiary amines with different functional groups were explored under simulated ship exhaust gas conditions. Tertiary amines with electron‐donating groups had superior absorption performance to those with electron‐withdrawing groups, and highly polar absorbents exhibited enhanced SO2 absorption loading. Dimethylaniline (DMA) showed excellent desorption performance, outperforming other absorbents (amino acids, ionic liquids, and deep eutectic solvents) in terms of cyclic capacity. Thus, tertiary amines, especially DMA, can be potentially used for the prevention of SO2 emissions from ship exhausts and other desulfurization applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ultimate goal of this work is to create an engineered aerosol that acts as one‐way smoke, i.e. it creates an asymmetric vision environment in which the ability to image objects depends on the viewing direction. To this end, a rapid, one‐pot synthesis of copper‐based microclubs is developed that consists of a Cu2O octahedron attached to a Cu2O@Cu shaft. Millions of synthesized particles are analyzed in minutes with a FlowCam to provide a robust statistical analysis of their geometry, and rapidly elucidate the roles of the reaction constituents on the particle shape and yield. The combination of asymmetry in both shape and composition introduces a 30% difference in scattering of light propagating parallel to the microclub axis from opposing directions. Two different types of novel phenothiazine‐embedded dithiasmaragdyrins containing one phenothiazine ring, two thiophene rings and two pyrrole rings connected via three meso carbons and two direct bonds in the macrocyclic framework were synthesized over the sequence of synthetic steps starting with phenothiazine. Three examples of phenothiazine‐embedded dithiasmaragdyrins were synthesized by condensing appropriate phenothiazine‐based pentapyrrane with pentafluorobenzaldehyde and two examples of phenothiazine sulfone embedded dithiasmaragdyrins were synthesized by condensing phenothiazine‐based diol with appropriate meso‐aryl dipyrromethane under mild acid‐catalysed conditions. 1D&2D NMR studies revealed that the thiophene rings adopted inverted orientation in phenothiazine sulfone embedded dithiasmaragdyrins whereas in phenothiazine‐embedded dithiasmaragdyrins, the thiophene rings were in normal orientation. Both types of macrocycles exhibit nonaromatic absorption features and showed panchochromic absorption features in its neutral and protonated forms. The electrochemical studies indicated that the phenothiazine‐embedded dithiasmaragdyrins were more electron‐rich compared to phenothiazine sulfone embedded dithiasmaragdyrins. DFT studies revealed that both types of dithiasmaragdyrins exhibit significantly distorted structures and TD‐DFT studies support the experimental observations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to ensure the operation and longevity of electronic devices, the design of multifunctional composites integrating microwave absorption (MA) and thermal conduction has become the key to solving the problem. However, the superior MA properties and thermal conductivity are usually incompatible in the blend system. In this study, a modified carbon fiber/silicone rubber‐oriented structure is designed based on the multiscale design concept of heterostructures with multiple interfaces. The forward deposition‐reverse growth mechanism is utilized at the microscopic level to construct multi‐interfacial heterogeneous structures on the surface of 1D carbon fibers (CFs). The magneto‐electric coupling network of the multi‐interfacial heterostructure induces interfacial polarization and enhances MA properties and heat transfer. Subsequently, the structural design of the modified CFs is carried out on a macroscopic scale using the ice template method. The directionally aligned modified CFs/silicone rubber aerogel composites are obtained by backfilling with silicone rubber (SR). The samples achieved an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.41 GHz and a maximum reflection loss of −42.29 dB with ultra‐thin thickness (1.3 mm). The thermal conductivity of the sample is improved to 200% compared to pure silicone rubber. 3D printing provides the potential to enhance mechanical properties by fabricating complex structures with diverse materials; however, most high‐resolution 3D printing techniques require custom printers to incorporate multiple materials and/or result in poor material interfacial bonding. Here, energy absorption properties are enhanced with 3D lattice structures fabricated via vat photopolymerization comprising multiple materials forming a gradient‐interpenetrating polymer network (gradient‐IPN). The gradient‐IPN is incorporated by swelling the 3D printed elastomeric lattice in a photoresin that yields a stiff shell‐soft core structure. This straightforward post‐3D printing technique delivers an unprecedented degree of structural property customization through polymer gradients in lattice struts with shells of tunable stiffness and flexible elastomeric cores to achieve a broad continuum spectrum of mechanical properties within one simple system. The gradient aids in the distribution of stress and limits fracture between materials typically observed in multimaterial lattices. The gradient‐IPN lattices are fully recoverable and exhibit over 4 to 33 times higher toughness after compression, compared to copolymer (same composition as the gradient‐IPN) or purely elastomeric lattices, respectively. This highly versatile approach to modifying 3D printed lattices yields the unique combination of load bearing capabilities with viscoelasticity desirable for high performance materials in impact protection. An improved microwave gaseous absorption scheme based on statistical regression is proposed in this study. In the new scheme, Monochromatic Radiative Transfer Model (MonoRTM) replaces the Millimeter‐wave Propagation Model (MPM) to train the new scheme and the effect of real Spectral Response Functions is included in the training process. After the replacement, results of the new scheme are closer to observations from Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) onboard Suomi National Polar‐orbiting Partnership satellite in low level channels while MPM has some advantages in upper level channels. Introducing ozone absorption can cause a systematic bias but results in small standard deviations in channels with frequency 183 ± 1.8 GHz and 183 ± 1 GHz. In addition, the new scheme updates the vertical interpolation of water vapor and optimizes the vertical distribution of Planck function. These updates can reduce biases caused by vertical interpolation, especially for water vapor absorption channels. The bias associated to vertical interpolation can reach 0.25 K whereas the new scheme can decrease it to 0.003 K. To further validate the accuracy of the new scheme, we apply the new scheme to Advanced Radiative transfer Modeling System and compare simulated results to RTTOV 13.2 under 37 and 137 level (L) atmosphere (atm). Observations from ATMS onboard NOAA‐20 are used as true values. Results show that the new scheme agrees with RTTOV 13.2 well in accuracy and performs even better in upper level channels and water vapor absorption channels. Plain Language Summary: Fast radiative transfer (RT) models play a crucial role in satellite data assimilation as well as remote sensing. Gaseous absorption calculation is a fundamental aspect of fast RT models. With the capability of new‐generation spaceborne microwave instruments to observe spectra beyond 200 GHz, Monochromatic Radiative Transfer Model (MonoRTM) is utilized to train the microwave gaseous absorption scheme. The absorption of oxygen, ozone, water vapor and nitrogen is considered. In addition, the mismatch of vertical coordinates between fast RT models and input profiles requires fast RT models to do vertical interpolation during simulations. Vertical interpolation may introduce notable biases in microwave water vapor absorption channels. In this study, we enhance the vertical interpolation of water vapor and optimize the vertical distribution of the Planck function to mitigate these biases. The accuracy of the new scheme is assessed by comparing it with MonoRTM and satellite observations. Polymer gels have shown application potential in minimizing gas channeling during CO2 enhanced oil recovery and storage processes, but the pumping pressure of preformed gels was too high, and the in‐situ cross‐linking in reservoirs was uncontrollable. Here we developed polyelectrolyte complex gels through the columbic attraction between sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC) and protonated polyethyleneimine (PEI+) by CO2 in the presence of water. Without CO2, the viscosity of polymer complex solution is relatively low; after streaming CO2, the viscosity of the NaCMC‐PEI+ mixture aqueous solution increases significantly, forming a gel. It was also found that the complex solution shows an evolution of "sol–gel‐separated phase" as the polymer concentration increases, which could be attributed to the enhanced electrostatic attraction between CMC− and PEI+. The viscosity of the gel decreases upon increasing salinity owing to the reduced charge repulsion by the introduced inorganic salt. The CMC−‐PEI+ complex can retain its gel behavior until 60°C, after which the complex collapses. The uptake tests show that 11.34 mg CO2 can be absorbed by each gram of gel composed of 0.9 wt% NaCMC and 0.15 wt% PEI at room temperature and ambient pressure.
