Myelodysplastic syndromes/neoplasms (MDS) and acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) are neoplastic haematopoietic cell proliferations that are diagnosed and classified based on a combination of morphological, clinical and genetic features. Specifically, the percentage of myeloblasts in the blood and bone marrow is a key feature that has historically separated MDS from AML and, together with several other morphological parameters, defines distinct disease entities within MDS. Both MDS and AML have recurrent genetic abnormalities that are increasingly influencing their definitions and subclassification. For example, in 2022, two new MDS entities were recognised based on the presence of SF3B1 mutation or bi‐allelic TP53 abnormalities. Genomic information is more objective and reproducible than morphological analyses, which are subject to interobserver variability and arbitrary numeric cut‐offs. Nevertheless, the integration of genomic data with traditional morphological features in myeloid neoplasm classification has proved challenging by virtue of its sheer complexity; gene expression and methylation profiling also can provide information regarding disease pathogenesis, adding to the complexity. New machine‐learning technologies have the potential to effectively integrate multiple diagnostic modalities and improve on historical classification systems. Going forward, the application of machine learning and advanced statistical methods to large patient cohorts can refine future classifications by advancing unbiased and robust previously unrecognised disease subgroups. Future classifications will probably incorporate these newer technologies and higher‐level analyses that emphasise genomic disease entities over traditional morphologically defined entities, thus promoting more accurate diagnosis and patient risk stratification. Count Neipperg (1775–1829), the morganatic husband of Maria Luigia of Habsburg, Napoleon's former wife, presented with typical heart failure symptoms and died of bilateral bronchopneumonia. Neipperg's case is an example of the conflict in the medical field, which led to the birth of modern evidence‐based medicine (EBM), and although Neipperg died almost 200 years ago, his case presents the same critical issues that more complex geriatric patients face today. First, the attending physicians provided divergent opinions without reaching an agreement. For example, Francesco Rossi correctly diagnosed heart disease by evaluating the patient's signs and symptoms, a clinical approach that is an early example of modern EBM. By contrast, Giacomo Tommasini made a misdiagnosis based on the philosophical principles of John Brown's vitalist theory, as reworded by Giovanni Rasori. Second, Tommasini's medical report also includes evidence of the Geriatric 5Ms for older patient care, such as multi‐complexity, multimorbidity, medication, mobility, and the mind. Moreover, both physicians considered "what matters most" for the patient and his family. Third, the Count's status and political role were identified as the social and structural determinants of health (SSDoH) and used to justify the exceptional intensity of the health care provided. Subsequently, the ante litteram application of EBM and a clinical evaluation based on Geriatrics 5Ms principles anticipate current multidisciplinary management focused on the patient rather than a single disease. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been shown to be promising for the promotion of angiogenesis. The present study investigated the effects of PBM on vascularization in an animal model of peripheral artery disease. Wistar rats were divided into three groups. The control group received no procedures. The ischemia group was submitted to ligation of the femoral artery of the hindleg. The ischemia + PBM group was submitted to ligation of the femoral artery followed by PBM (660 and 808 nm, 100 mW, 4 J) over the site. Animals with ischemia treated with PBM exhibited comparable results to the control group with regards to the diameter of the α‐SMA+ vessels, cross‐sectional area of muscle fibers, percentage of collagen and serum concentration of IL‐17A, as well as similarities in terms of vertical mobility, temperature of the hindleg, number of acts of grooming, and percentage of movement, indicating a condition like that of limbs unaffected by ischemia. Background: Early identification of sepsis in the emergency department (ED) triage is both valuable and challenging. Numerous studies have endeavored to pinpoint clinical and biochemical criteria to assist clinicians in the prompt diagnosis of sepsis, but few studies have assessed the efficacy of these criteria in the ED triage setting. The aim of the study was to explore the accuracy of clinical and laboratory markers evaluated at the triage level in identifying patients with sepsis. Methods: A prospective study was conducted in a large academic urban hospital, implementing a triage protocol aimed at early identification of septic patients based on clinical and laboratory markers. A multidisciplinary panel of experts reviewed cases to ensure accurate identification of septic patients. Variables analyzed included: Charlson comorbidity index, mean arterial pressure (MAP), partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PetCO2), white cell count, eosinophil count, C‐reactive protein to albumin ratio, procalcitonin, and lactate. Results: A total of 235 patients were included. Multivariable analysis identified procalcitonin ≥1 ng/mL (OR 5.2; p < 0.001); CRP‐to‐albumin ratio ≥32 (OR 6.6; p < 0.001); PetCO2 ≤ 28 mmHg (OR 2.7; p = 0.031), and MAP <85 mmHg (OR 7.5; p < 0.001) as independent predictors for sepsis. MAP ≥85 mmHg, CRP/albumin ratio <32, and procalcitonin <1 ng/mL demonstrated negative predictive values for sepsis of 90%, 89%, and 88%, respectively. Conclusions: Our study underscores the significance of procalcitonin and mean arterial pressure, while introducing CRP/albumin ratio and PetCO2 as important variables to consider in the very initial assessment of patients with suspected sepsis in the ED. Biofilms are microbial communities that influence the chemical and physical properties of porous media. Understanding their formation is essential for different topics, such as water management, bioremediation, and oil recovery. In this work, we present a pore‐scale model for biofilm dynamics that is fully coupled with fluid flow and transport of growth‐limiting nutrients. Built upon micro‐continuum theory, the model considers biofilm as a fluid‐filled micro‐porous medium and simulates flow based on a coupled Darcy‐Brinkman‐Stokes model. We outline the key assumptions of the model and present the governing equations of biofilm dynamics, along with details of their numerical implementation. Through numerical simulations of biofilm development at the scale of a single pore, we analyze the influence of flow dynamics upon biofilm spatial distribution, as well as the way effective permeability is altered and evolves under different growth conditions. Our emphasis is on the critical hydrodynamic point, that is, the transition between bulky and dispersive biofilm shapes as a function of the driving parameters. We introduce a dimensionless number, termed Dt ${D}_{t}$, defined as the ratio between hydrodynamic and biomass cohesion forces, which provides a bulk characterization of the biomass‐flow system, and allows to assess biofilm morphology and growth patterns. We then discuss results in relation to available experimental data, where estimated Dt ${D}_{t}$ values are in line with specific biofilm growth patterns, ranging from boundary‐layer appearance Dt>1 $\left({D}_{t} > 1\right)$ to bulky shapes Dt<1 $\left({D}_{t}< 1\right)$. Plain Language Summary: We present a computational model to simulate biofilm formation in porous materials under varying flow and transport conditions. The framework is designed for small‐scale analysis (mm−cm) $(mm-cm)$ and is based on a micro‐continuum approach, where biofilm is treated as a micro‐porous material. This approach addresses the technical challenges of explicitly representing the biofilm‐liquid interface. Through numerical simulations, we analyze the effect of flow dynamics on biofilm formation at the scale of a single pore. The model predicts distinct growth patterns and biofilm shapes depending on the hydrodynamic conditions. Increasing the flow rate promotes biofilm growth up to a critical hydrodynamic point, after which biomass detachment becomes dominant. We discuss these results in relation to experimental observations and interpret the growth patterns using a dimensionless number, Dt ${D}_{t}$, which represents the ratio between drag forces and biomass cohesion forces. Furthermore, we conduct a numerical analysis to explore the relationship between biomass accumulation and permeability changes, which is a critical factor in many engineering and environmental applications including bioremediation and degradation of organic contaminants. Using a simple porous system, we demonstrate how the porosity‐permeability relationship is significantly influenced by biofilm growth conditions and how the biofilm is distributed within the pore space. Background: Previous studies demonstrate a link between irritability and suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) in youth samples. However, they have mostly assessed irritability in community samples and as a largely dispositional (i.e. trait‐like) construct. Thus, it remains unclear to what extent links between irritability and STBs reflect within‐person processes of elevated risk in clinically meaningful time periods. Methods: The present study used clinical data from 689 adolescents aged 12–19 years attending a total of 6,128 visits at a specialty Intensive Outpatient Program for depressed and suicidal youth to examine patterns in weekly assessments of irritability and STBs throughout treatment, including associations among trends and fluctuations departing from these trends via multilevel structural equation modeling. Youth completed self‐report measures of irritability, depression, and STBs weekly as part of standard IOP clinical care. Results: Overall, two‐thirds of variance in weekly irritable mood was accounted for by between‐person differences and the remaining portion by weekly fluctuations. After controlling for depression, during weeks when youth were more irritable they experienced increased STBs. Rates of change in irritability and STBs tended to track together at early stages of treatment, but these effects were generally accounted for by depression severity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that although changes in STBs are best accounted for by depression, irritability can be understood as a specific, proximal risk factor for youth STBs that exacerbates youth STBs in clinically informative timeframes above and beyond depression. Mosaic variegated aneuploidy (MVA) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by mosaic aneuploidies, predominantly trisomies, involving multiple different chromosomes and tissues. The proportion of aneuploid cells varies, and most patients present with intrauterine growth delay, microcephaly, and a broad spectrum of congenital abnormalities. We report a patient with a distinctive type of MVA discovered in bone marrow (BM) when she was 3‐month‐old due to neutropenia and hypocellular bone marrow. She was followed up for more than 20 years, and different trisomic cells were repeatedly discovered in different tissues, whereas her clinical picture has never been severe. The main sign remained intermittent neutropenia, not cyclic and often not too severe, occasionally with anemia and thrombocytopenia. Retromicrognathia was the only dysmorphic sign. Unlike other patients with MVA, the trisomies in all tissues involved almost invariably chromosomes 18 and 19. Therefore, the peculiarities of our patient were the clinical and the atypical cytogenetic pictures. Nevertheless, we looked for mutations in the seven causative genes of the known types of MVA, but the results were negative. Then, we analyzed the entire exome to find out other possible causing mutations, but also this attempt failed to discover a possible cause of this distinctive form of MVA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a clinical syndrome characterized by acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. Pneumonia and sepsis are the most common causes, turning ARDS into a critical public health problem. Despite recent advances in pharmacological strategies, clinical trials have not demonstrated a reduction in ARDS‐associated mortality. This is in part connected to the singularity of the pulmonary physiological barrier, which hampers drug delivery, specifically at distal areas. To this aim, the use of polymeric nanocarriers as a platform for the efficient delivery of therapeutics to the lungs by nebulization is introduced. Herein, poly(lactic‐co‐glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanocapsules (NCs) loaded with human serum albumin, as an inhalable nanotherapeutic are prepared. The production of stable NCs aerosols in the inhalable range is achieved using a commercial device, while the nanocarrier's physicochemical parameters are only minimally altered after nebulization. Importantly, in vivo studies with healthy and acute lung injury animals show that after inhalation, the NCs are homogeneously distributed throughout the lungs, arriving at the distal areas. The NCs are internalized by alveolar type II cells, avoiding macrophage‐mediated lung clearance. These features make the PLGA NCs excellent vehicles for noninvasive pulmonary delivery, facilitating a ready‐to‐be‐used nanomedicine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) are options in severe aortic valve stenosis (AVS). Cardiovascular (CV) and cerebrovascular (CBV) control markers, derived from variability of heart period, systolic arterial pressure, mean cerebral blood velocity and mean arterial pressure, were acquired in 19 AVS patients (age: 76.8 ± 3.1 yrs, eight males) scheduled for SAVR and in 19 AVS patients (age: 79.9 + 6.5 yrs, 11 males) scheduled for TAVI before (PRE) and after intervention (POST, <7 days). Left ventricular function was preserved in both groups. Patients were studied at supine resting (REST) and during active standing (STAND). We found that: (i) both SAVR and TAVI groups featured a weak pre‐procedure CV control; (ii) TAVI ensured better CV control; (iii) cerebral autoregulation was working in PRE in both SAVR and TAVI groups; (iv) SAVR and TAVI had no impact on the CBV control; (v) regardless of group, CV and CBV control markers were not influenced by STAND in POST. Even though the post‐procedure preservation of both CV and CBV controls in TAVI group might lead to privilege this procedure in patients at higher risk, the missing response to STAND suggests that this advantage could be insignificant. Background: Endovascular management of portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is challenging. Transsplenic access (TSA) is growing as an access option to the portal system but with higher rates of bleeding complications. The aim of this article is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transsplenic portal vein recanalization (PVR) using a metallic stent after pediatric liver transplantation. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective review of 15 patients with chronic PVT who underwent PVR via TSA between February 2016 and December 2020. Two children who had undergone catheterization of a mesenteric vein tributary by minilaparotomy were excluded from the patency analysis but included in the splenic access analysis. The technical and clinical success of PVR and complications related to the procedure via TSA were evaluated. Results: Thirteen children with PVT were treated primarily using the TSA. The mean age was 4.1 years (range, 1.5–13.7 years), and the most common clinical presentation was hypersplenism (60%). Technically successful PVR was performed in 11/13 (84.6%) children, and clinical success was achieved in 9/11 (81.8%) children. No major complications were observed, and one child presented moderate pain in the TSA (from a total of 17 TSA). The median follow‐up was 48.2 months. The median primary patency was 9.9 months. Primary patency in the first 4 years was 75%, and primary assisted patency was 100% in the follow‐up period. Conclusions: Transsplenic PVR is a safe and effective method for the treatment of PVT after pediatric liver transplantation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: This study investigates the psychopathological characteristics of a sample of individuals at ultra‐high risk for psychosis with and without comorbid attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: Twenty‐eight subjects (aged 13–21 years; 13 females) with attenuated psychosis syndrome (APS) were recruited in a cross‐sectional study and divided into two groups, each with 14 patients, according to the presence or absence of ADHD. Results: The APS group showed a significantly higher prevalence of negative symptoms than the APS + ADHD group. Other characteristics investigated (positive symptoms, aberrant salience, psychotic‐like experiences and prodromal symptoms) did not differ between groups. Conclusions: The different profiles of negative symptoms in the APS with or without ADHD might suggest the presence of a specific subtype among individuals at ultra‐high risk for psychosis. Longitudinal studies with larger samples will provide information about the role of negative symptoms in determining conversion to full psychosis in those people with 'pure' APS and those with APS + ADHD. Nurses play a crucial role in reducing health disparities and advancing health equity for individuals and communities. The future nursing workforce relies on their nursing education to prepare them to promote health equity. Nursing educators prepare students through a variety of andragogical learning strategies in the classroom and in clinical experiences and by intentionally updating and revising curricular content to address knowledge and competency gaps. This critical review aimed to determine the extent to which health equity concepts are explicitly present in prelicensure undergraduate nursing curricula globally. Of 434 articles screened, 22 articles describing 20 studies met inclusion criteria. Frequency and quantity of health equity content, concepts and topics, teaching strategies, evaluation strategies, and the overall extent of integration varied widely. Notably, only two articles described overall well‐integrated explicit health equity content, and there was little attention to whether students transfer this learning into practice. A focus on individualism rather than population and community was noted, highlighting the presence of whiteness in nursing. Background: Infections are complications in the wound healing process, and their treatment can lead to antibiotic overuse and bacterial resistance. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is used to treat infectious diseases caused by fungi, viruses, or bacteria. Methylene blue (MB) and its derivatives are commonly used dyes in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT–MB). Methods: This study is a PRISMA systematic review of animal models used to discuss the usefulness and therapeutic parameters of aPDT–MB or its derivatives for treating infected skin wounds. Results: After an extensive literature review, 13 controlled trials totaling 261 animals were selected to evaluate skin infection by leishmaniasis and cutaneous bacterial and fungal infections. All studies found results favoring the use of aPDT–MB. Great variability in parameters was found for radiant exposure from 12 to 360 J/cm2, MB diluted in saline solution or distilled water, irradiation time from 40 to 3600 s, irradiance most commonly at a maximum of 100 mW/cm2, and wavelength used mainly in the 630–670 nm range. Conclusion: MB is a safe and promising agent used as a photosensitizer in aPDT for skin‐infected lesions. There is great variability in the parameters found. Differentiated instruction (DI) is an educational praxis that is built on the premise that all students can be engaged in learning and achieve positive academic outcomes. Previous research in secondary schools has shown promise in the success of DI practices and outlines the importance of sustained professional development (PD) for teachers. There is, however, little research on DI within senior‐secondary classrooms in the Australian context. This research is part of a larger study which recruited 12 participants from three schools across two states in Australia, and aimed to investigate teachers' perceptions of school leadership and support in implementing DI in their classrooms as well as awareness of relevant policies. Findings indicated that when teachers were aware of policies involving DI, they tended to describe policies relating to special education. This suggests that DI is viewed by these teachers as an approach for students with additional needs rather than seen as a whole class philosophy. Similarly, the results indicated that when teachers said that leadership supported them in using DI, this support was commonly reported as isolated professional development in supporting students with additional needs. Discrepancies around awareness of DI policies were also found between teachers at the same school, with those in leadership roles indicating that requirements to utilise DI were embedded in their general teaching and learning policy. Purpose: To compare the ocular effects of exposure to a low‐humidity environment with and without contact lens (CL) wear using various non‐invasive tests. Methods: Fourteen habitual soft CL wearers were exposed to controlled low humidity (5% relative humidity [RH]) in an environmental chamber for 90 min on two separate occasions. First, when wearing their habitual spectacles and then, on a separate visit, when wearing silicone hydrogel CLs that were fitted specifically for this purpose. All participants had adapted to the new CL prior to data collection. Three non‐invasive objective measurements were taken at each visit: blinking rate, objective ocular scatter (measured using the objective scatter index) and ocular surface cooling rate (measured using a long‐wave infrared thermal camera). At each visit, measurements were taken before the exposure in comfortable environmental conditions (RH: 45%), and after exposure to environmental stress (low humidity, RH: 5%). Results: CL wearers showed increased blinking rate (p < 0.005) and ocular scatter (p = 0.03) but similar cooling rate of the ocular surface (p = 0.08) when compared with spectacle wear in comfortable environmental conditions. The exposure to low humidity increased the blinking rate significantly with both types of corrections (p = 0.01). Interestingly, ocular scatter (p = 0.96) and cooling rate (p = 0.73) were not significantly different before and after exposure to low humidity. There were no significant two‐way interactions between correction and exposure in any of the measurements. Conclusions: CLs significantly increased the blinking rate, which prevented a quick degradation of the tear film integrity as it was refreshed more regularly. It is hypothesised that the increased blinking rate in CL wearers aids in maintaining ocular scatter quality and cooling rate when exposed to a low‐humidity environment. Aims: Risk stratification of atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), diagnosed using breast biopsy, has great clinical significance. Clinical trials are currently exploring the possibility of active surveillance for low‐risk lesions, whereas axillary lymph node staging may be considered during surgical planning for high‐risk lesions. We aimed to develop a machine‐learning algorithm based on whole‐slide images of breast biopsy specimens and clinical information to predict the risk of upstaging to invasive breast cancer after wide excision. Methods and Results: Patients diagnosed with ADH/DCIS on breast biopsy were included in this study, comprising 592 (740 slides) and 141 (198 slides) patients in the development and independent testing cohorts, respectively. Histological grading of the lesions was independently evaluated by two pathologists. Clinical information, including biopsy method, lesion size, and Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI‐RADS) classification of ultrasound and mammograms, were collected. Deep DCIS consisted of three deep neural networks to evaluate nuclear grade, necrosis, and stromal reactivity. Deep DCIS output comprised five parameters: total patches, lesion extent, Deep Grade, Deep Necrosis, and Deep Stroma. Deep DCIS highly correlated with the pathologists' evaluations of both slide‐ and patient‐level labels. All five parameters of Deep DCIS were significantly associated with upstaging to invasive carcinoma in subsequent wide excisional specimens. Using multivariate logistic regression, Deep DCIS predicted upstaging to invasive carcinoma with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.81, outperforming pathologists' evaluation (AUC, 0.71 and 0.69). After including clinical and hormone receptor status information, performance further improved (AUC, 0.87). This combined model retained its predictive power in two subgroup analyses: the first subgroup included unequivocal DCIS (excluding cases of ADH and DCIS suspicious for microinvasion) (AUC, 0.83), while the second excluded cases of high‐grade DCIS (AUC, 0.81). The model was validated in an independent testing cohort (AUC, 0.81). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that deep‐learning models can refine histological evaluation of ADH and DCIS on breast biopsies, which may help guide future treatment planning. Background and purpose: Anti‐calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP) therapies are recent preventive therapies approved for both episodic and chronic migraine. One of the measures of effectiveness is the withdrawal of other preventive treatments. The objective of this study is to quantify the impact of anti‐CGRP drugs in concomitant preventive treatment in patients with migraine. Methods: This was an observational, retrospective, multicenter cohort study with patients from nine national headache units. Patients with migraine undergoing treatment for at least 6 months with anti‐CGRP antibodies, who were initially associated with some preventive treatment (oral and/or onabotulinumtoxinA) were included. Demographic and clinical variables were collected, as well as variables related to headache. Differences according to withdrawal or nonwithdrawal were evaluated. Results: A total of 408 patients were included, 86.52% women, 48.79 (SD = 1.46) years old. Preventive treatment was withdrawn in 43.87% (179/408), 20.83% partially and 23.04% totally. In 27.45% (112/408), it was maintained exclusively due to comorbidity and in 28.6% (117/408) due to partial efficacy. The most frequent time of withdrawal was between 3 and 5 months after the start of treatment. The baseline characteristics associated with nonwithdrawal were comorbidities: insomnia, hypertension and obesity, chronic migraine, and medication overuse. In the multivariate analysis, the absence of high blood pressure, a greater number of preventive treatments at the start, and a lower number of migraine days/month after anti‐CGRP treatment were independently associated with withdrawal of the treatment (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Anti‐CGRP antibodies allow the withdrawal of associated preventive treatment in a significant percentage of patients, which supports its effectiveness in real‐life conditions. Elevated serum prolactin concentrations occur in inherited disorders of biogenic amine metabolism because dopamine deficiency leads to insufficient inhibition of prolactin secretion. This work from the International Working Group on Neurotransmitter Related Disorders (iNTD) presents the results of the first standardized study on levodopa‐refractory hyperprolactinemia (LRHP; >1000 mU/L) and pituitary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) abnormalities in patients with inherited disorders of biogenic amine metabolism. Twenty‐six individuals had LRHP or abnormal pituitary findings on MRI. Tetrahydrobiopterin deficiencies were the most common diagnoses (n = 22). The median age at diagnosis of LRHP was 16 years (range: 2.5–30, 1st–3rd quartiles: 12.25–17 years). Twelve individuals (nine females) had symptoms attributed to hyperprolactinemia: menstruation‐related abnormalities (n = 7), pubertal delay or arrest (n = 5), galactorrhea (n = 3), and decreased sexual functions (n = 2). MRI of the pituitary gland was obtained in 21 individuals; six had heterogeneity/hyperplasia of the gland, five had adenoma, and 10 had normal findings. Eleven individuals were treated with the dopamine agonist cabergoline, ameliorating the hyperprolactinemia‐related symptoms in all those assessed. Routine monitoring of these symptoms together with prolactin concentrations, especially after the first decade of life, should be taken into consideration during follow‐up evaluations. The potential of slow‐release levodopa formulations and low‐dose dopamine agonists as part of first‐line therapy in the prevention and treatment of hyperprolactinemia should be investigated further in animal studies and human trials. Background: Suicide is a major public health crisis among youth. Several prominent theories, including the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide (IPTS), aim to characterize the factors leading from suicide ideation to action. These theories are largely based on findings in adults and require testing and elaboration in adolescents. Methods: Data were examined from high‐risk 13–18‐year‐old adolescents (N = 167) participating in a multi‐wave, longitudinal study; 63% of the sample exhibited current suicidal thoughts or recent behaviors (n = 105). The study included a 6‐month follow‐up period with clinical interviews and self‐report measures at each of the four assessments as well as weekly smartphone‐based assessments of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Regression and structural equation models were used to probe hypotheses related to the core tenets of the IPTS. Results: Feelings of perceived burdensomeness were associated with more severe self‐reported suicidal ideation (b = 0.58, t(158) = 7.64, p <.001). Similarly, burdensomeness was associated with more frequent ideation based on weekly smartphone ratings (b = 0.11, t(1460) = 3.41, p <.001). Contrary to IPTS hypotheses, neither feelings of thwarted belongingness, nor interactions between burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness were significantly associated with ideation (ps >.05). Only elevated depression severity was associated with greater odds of suicide events (i.e., suicide attempts, psychiatric hospitalizations, and/or emergency department visits for suicide concerns) during the follow‐up period (OR = 1.83, t(158) = 2.44, p =.01). No effect of acquired capability was found. Conclusions: Perceptions of burdensomeness to others reflect a critical risk factor for suicidal ideation among high‐risk adolescents. Null findings with other IPTS constructs may suggest a need to adopt more developmentally sensitive models or measures of interpersonal and acquired capability risk factors for youth. The current study analyzes the possibility of determining the drug location in electrospun polymeric matrices and forecasting the release kinetics of drug delivery systems. Electrospun membranes made of polycaprolactone (PCL) loaded with dacarbazine (the drug of choice for the treatment of melanoma) and with AuM1 (a promising synthetic Au‐based complex recently proposed for antitumoral treatments) are successfully prepared. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis is performed on various membranes, highlighting the relevance of investigating the three‐dimensional topology of the membranes for understanding the release kinetic. The produced mats are similar for all membranes, but significant differences in the microscopic roughness wall between the systems loaded with AuM1 and dacarbazine are observed. For AuM1, which has a low affinity with the PCL matrix, the complex aggregates on the nanofibers' external walls, consequently increasing the roughness and causing a high burst in the first hours of release. On the other hand, dacarbazine is successfully included in the bulk core of the PCL nanofibers. Thus, the release kinetics is diffusive and well described by the Fick model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From previous studies, we have shown that viable colony forming units of bacteria and bacterial biofilms are reduced after sequential treatment with a surfactant‐based dressing. Here, we sought to test the impact on visible bacterial pigments and the ultrastructural impact following the sequential treatment of the same surfactant‐based dressing. Mature Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms were grown on ex vivo porcine skin explants, and an imaging‐based analysis was used to compare the skin with and without a concentrated surfactant. In explants naturally tinted by bacterial chromophores, wiping alone had no effect, while the use of a surfactant‐based dressing reduced coloration. Similarly, daily wiping led to increased immunohistochemical staining for P. aeruginosa antigens, but not in the surfactant group. Confocal immunofluorescent imaging revealed limited bacterial penetration and coating of the dermis and loose pieces of sloughing material. Ultrastructural analysis confirmed that the biofilms were masking the extracellular matrix (ECM), but the surfactant could remove them, re‐exposing the ECM. The masking of the ECM may provide another non‐inflammatory explanation for delayed healing, as the ECM is no longer accessible for wound cell locomotion. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical evolution of patients with diabetic foot ulcer treated with antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) using the Bates‐Jensen (BJ) scale. A total of 21 patients were monitored, with an average age of 58 years. Patients underwent the standard treatment protocol of the institution, supplemented with aPDT utilizing 0.01% methylene blue (MB) and laser irradiation (660 nm, 100 mW, 6 J per point). Following aPDT, the lesions were protected with hydrofiber dressings containing silver. The Bates‐Jensen Scale was employed at pre‐treatment and post‐aPDT sessions to assess lesion progression. The results demonstrated a significant difference between pre‐ and post‐treatment values in the overall BJ score. The use of MB in aPDT proved to be an effective, safe, well‐tolerated treatment with high patient adherence and the potential for implementation in the care of diabetic foot conditions. Chiral perovskites possess a huge applicative potential in several areas of optoelectronics and spintronics. The development of novel lead‐free perovskites with tunable properties is a key topic of current research. Herein, we report a novel lead‐free chiral perovskite, namely (R/S−)ClMBA2SnI4 (ClMBA=1‐(4‐chlorophenyl)ethanamine) and the corresponding racemic system. ClMBA2SnI4 samples exhibit a low band gap (2.12 eV) together with broad emission extending in the red region of the spectrum (∼1.7 eV). Chirality transfer from the organic ligand induces chiroptical activity in the 465–530 nm range. Density functional theory calculations show a Rashba type band splitting for the chiral samples and no band splitting for the racemic isomer. Self‐trapped exciton formation is at the origin of the large Stokes shift in the emission. Careful correlation with analogous lead and lead‐free 2D chiral perovskites confirms the role of the symmetry‐breaking distortions in the inorganic layers associated with the ligands as the source of the observed chiroptical properties providing also preliminary structure‐property correlation in 2D chiral perovskites. Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a qualitative developmental defect of enamel that occurs during the mineralization phase. Patients with MIH have increased risk of caries, hypersensitivity, and restoration failures. The present case report describes the treatment of a 10‐year‐old patient exhibiting two teeth with atypical carious lesions. A minimal interventive protocol was instituted combining antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and the selective chemical–mechanical removal of the carious tissue using the product Papacárie Duo®. Laser‐induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) represent a unique route for functionalizing materials through the fabrication of surface nanostructures. Commercial AISI 316L stainless steel (SS316L) surfaces are laser treated by ultraviolet 300 ps laser pulses in a laser line scanning (LLS) approach. Processing parameters are optimized (pulse energy of 2.08 µJ, pulse repetition frequency of 300 kHz, and suitable laser scan and sample displacement rates) for the generation of low spatial frequency LIPSS over a large 25 × 25 mm2 area. Different angles of incidence of the laser radiation (0°, 30°, and 45°) and different linear laser beam polarizations (s and p) produce a plethora of rippled surface morphologies at distinct grains. Scanning electron microscopy and 2D Fourier transforms, together with calculations of the optical energy deposited at the treated surfaces using Sipe's first‐principles electromagnetic scattering theory, are used to study and analyze in detail these surface morphologies. Combined with electron backscattering diffraction, analyses allow associating site‐selectively various laser‐induced‐surface morphologies with the underlying crystalline grain orientation. Resulting grain orientation maps reveal a strong impact of the grain crystallographic orientation on LIPSS formation and point toward possible strategies, like multi‐step processes, for improving the manufacturing of LIPSS and their areal coverage of polycrystalline technical materials. Background and Aim: This study aimed to determine safety and risk factors for adverse events (AEs) of endoscopic ultrasound‐guided gallbladder drainage (EUS‐GBD) with long‐term indwell of lumen‐apposing metal stents (LAMS). Methods: This study is a multicenter prospective observational study on consecutive high surgical‐risk patients requiring gallbladder drainage who underwent EUS‐GBD with LAMS over 12 months. Centralized telephone follow‐up interviews were conducted every 3 months for 1 year. Patients were censored at LAMS removal, cholecystectomy, or death. AE‐free survival was determined using log–rank tests. Cumulative risks were estimated using life‐table analysis. Results: Eighty‐two patients were included (53.7% male, median [interquartile range] age of 84.6 [76.5–89.8] years, and 85.4% with acute cholecystitis). Technical success was achieved in 79 (96.3%), and clinical success in 73 (89%). No patient was lost to follow‐up; 45 patients (54.9%) completed 1‐year follow‐up with in situ LAMS. Median (interquartile range) LAMS indwell time was 364 (47–367) days. Overall, 12 (14.6%) patients presented 14 AEs, including 5 (6.1%) recurrent biliary events (3 acute cholangitis, 1 mild acute pancreatitis, and 1 acute cholecystitis). Patients with pancreatobiliary malignancy had an increased risk of recurrent biliary events (33% vs 1.5%, P = 0.001). The overall 1‐year cumulative risk of recurrent biliary events was 9.7% (4.1–21.8%). The 1‐year risk of AEs and of severe AEs was 18.8% (11–31.2%) and 7.9% (3.3–18.2%), respectively. Pancreatobiliary malignancy was the single risk factor for recurrent biliary events; LAMS misdeployment was the strongest risk factor for AEs. Background and Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and clinical usefulness of endobronchial ultrasound‐guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS‐TBNA) for mediastinal staging of centrally located T1N0M0 non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) clinically staged with positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). Methods: We conducted a study that included patients with centrally located T1N0M0 NSCLC, clinically staged with PET/CT who underwent EBUS‐TBNA for mediastinal staging. Patients with negative EBUS‐TBNA underwent mediastinoscopy, video‐assisted mediastinoscopic lymphadenectomy (VAMLA) and/or lung resection with systematic nodal dissection, that were considered the gold standard. The sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value (NPV), positive predictive value (PPV), overall accuracy of EBUS‐TBNA for diagnosing mediastinal metastases (N2 disease) and the number needed to treat (NNT: number of patients needed to undergo EBUS‐TBNA to avoid a case of pathologic N2 disease after resection) were calculated. Results: One‐hundred eighteen patients were included. EBUS‐TBNA proved N2 disease in four patients. In the remaining 114 patients who underwent mediastinoscopy, VAMLA and/or resection there were two cases of N2 (N2 prevalence 5.1%). The sensitivity, specificity, NPV, PPV and overall accuracy for diagnosing mediastinal metastases (N2 disease) were of 66%, 100%, 98%, 100% and 98%, respectively. The NNT was 31 (95% CI: 15–119). Conclusion: EBUS‐TBNA in patients with central clinically staged T1N0M0 NSCLC presents a good diagnostic accuracy for mediastinal staging, even in a population with low prevalence of N2 disease. Tatton‐Brown–Rahman syndrome (TBRS) or DNMT3A‐overgrowth syndrome is characterized by overgrowth and intellectual disability associated with minor dysmorphic features, obesity, and behavioral problems. It is caused by variants of the DNMT3A gene. We report four patients with this syndrome due to de novo DNMT3A pathogenic variants, contributing to a deeper understanding of the genetic basis and pathophysiology of this autosomal dominant syndrome. Clinical and magnetic resonance imaging assessments were also performed. All patients showed corpus callosum anomalies, small posterior fossa, and a deep left Sylvian fissure; as well as asymmetry of the uncinate and arcuate fascicles and marked increased cortical thickness. These results suggest that structural neuroimaging anomalies have been previously overlooked, where corpus callosum and brain tract alterations might be unrecognized neuroimaging traits of TBRS syndrome caused by DNMT3A variants. The objective of this split‐mouth case report is to evaluate the effect of photobiomodulation (PBM, 880 nm) on pain control during pterygomandibular puncture. A patient received anesthesia on both sides of the mouth in a randomized manner. On the right side, an 880‐nm infrared laser was applied immediately before local anesthesia. On the left side, a sham laser was applied using the same technique. There was a 50% reduction in pain levels on the PBM‐treated side compared to the PBM‐sham side, as measured by the visual analog scale. Sensitivity tests revealed that anesthesia was more effective on the PBM side. There was no difference in blood pressure. This case report suggests that PBM (880 nm) before anesthesia may alleviate puncture pain associated with pterygomandibular anesthesia. Presbyopia is a visual condition that affects all of us, evolving with time, reducing the range of accommodation and the ability to work at near. Reading glasses, bifocals or multifocal lenses are the most common solutions. In this work, we demonstrate the near visual performance of new elastomeric auto‐adherent lenses developed for the correction of presbyopia. Visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were measured in 10 presbyopic subjects. The results showed that wearing either conventional trial ophthalmic lenses or the new elastomeric lenses provided similar visual quality. These elastomeric lenses can be placed in, or removed from the distance‐vision spectacles of the wearers, providing an affordable solution for correcting presbyopia at its clinical onset, which might be especially useful in subjects with different refractive error in each eye and for those with astigmatism. Summary: Shwachman–Diamond syndrome (SDS) is characterized by neutropenia, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency and skeletal abnormalities. SDS bone marrow haematopoietic progenitors show increased apoptosis and impairment in granulocytic differentiation. Loss of Shwachman–Bodian–Diamond syndrome (SBDS) expression results in reduced eukaryotic 80S ribosome maturation. Biallelic mutations in the SBDS gene are found in ~90% of SDS patients, ~55% of whom carry the c.183‐184TA>CT nonsense mutation. Several translational readthrough‐inducing drugs aimed at suppressing nonsense mutations have been developed. One of these, ataluren, has received approval in Europe for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. We previously showed that ataluren can restore full‐length SBDS protein synthesis in SDS‐derived bone marrow cells. Here, we extend our preclinical study to assess the functional restoration of SBDS capabilities in vitro and ex vivo. Ataluren improved 80S ribosome assembly and total protein synthesis in SDS‐derived cells, restored myelopoiesis in myeloid progenitors, improved neutrophil chemotaxis in vitro and reduced neutrophil dysplastic markers ex vivo. Ataluren also restored full‐length SBDS synthesis in primary osteoblasts, suggesting that its beneficial role may go beyond the myeloid compartment. Altogether, our results strengthened the rationale for a Phase I/II clinical trial of ataluren in SDS patients who harbour the nonsense mutation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Differentiated instruction (DI) is a pedagogical framework to which all students can be engaged in their learning and achieve academically in their schooling. While DI is for all students, there is little research in DI for students with learning difficulties, in senior‐secondary schools in Australia. This research formed part of a larger study, which recruited 12 participants across two Australian states, to investigate how teachers in senior‐secondary schooling, differentiate for students with learning difficulties. Findings indicated that when students had labelled learning difficulties as recognised by other professionals, teachers expressed being able to differentiate more easily with greater self‐efficacy, as compared with differentiating for students who teachers themselves considered were experiencing difficulties in their learning but had no label assigned to them. Teachers voiced that learning difficulties was a broad concept, with each teacher defining learning difficulties differently. This suggests that with the broad nature of learning difficulties, teachers may struggle to differentiate accordingly, leading to lower self‐efficacy beliefs. While labelled learning difficulties provide guidance for differentiating, this may also see teachers differentiating based on preconceived ideas and for students with special needs, rather than individual students' current understanding. Background: The management of complex, intra‐ and extrahepatic portal vein thrombosis (PVT) after liver transplantation (LT) is challenging. Although most of the patients remain asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic in the chronic setting, some of them may develop severe portal hypertension and related complications, notably gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. In the emergency scenario, clinical and endoscopic treatments as well as intensive support constitute the bases of conservative management, while more definitive treatment options such as surgical shunting and retransplantation are related to high morbidity rates. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) was largely considered of limited role due to technical difficulties arising from extensive PVT. Recently, however, new minimally invasive image‐guided techniques emerged, allowing portal vein recanalization and TIPS creation simultaneously (TIPS‐PVR), even in complex PVT pretransplant patients. Methods: Herein, we describe a novel indication for TIPS‐PVR in a post‐LT adolescent presenting with life‐threatening, refractory GI bleeding. Results: The patient presented with complete resolution of the hemorrhagic condition after the procedure, with no deterioration of hepatic function or hepatic encephalopathy. Follow‐up Doppler ultrasound after TIPS‐PVR showed normal hepatopetal venous flow within the stents, and no evidence of complications, including intraperitoneal or peri splenic bleeding. Conclusions: This report describes the feasibility of TIPS‐PVR in the post‐LT scenario complicated by extensive PVT. In this case, a complete resolution of the life‐threatening GI bleeding was achieved, with no major complications. Other patients with complex chronic PVT might benefit from the use of the described technique, but further studies are required to determine the correct timing and indications of the procedure, eventually before the occurrence of life‐threatening complications. Background: Pediatric anxiety and depression are prevalent, impairing, and highly comorbid. Available evidence‐based treatments have an average response rate of 60%. One path to increasing response may be to identify likely non‐responders midway through treatment to adjust course prior to completing an episode of care. The aims of this study, thus, were to identify predictors of post‐intervention response assessing (a) mid‐treatment symptom severity, (b) session‐by‐session treatment process factors, and (c) a model optimizing the combination of these. Method: Data were drawn from the treatment arm (N = 95, ages 8–16) of a randomized transdiagnostic intervention trial (Msessions = 11.2). Mid‐point measures of youth‐ and parent‐reported anxiety and depression were collected, and therapists rated homework completion, youth and parent engagement, and youth therapeutic alliance at each session. Logistic regression was used to predict response on the Clinical Global Impression Improvement Scale (CGI‐I ≤2) rated by independent evaluators masked to treatment condition. Results: Mid‐point symptom measures were significant predictors of treatment response, as were therapist‐ratings of youth and parent engagement, therapeutic alliance, and homework completion. Therapist ratings were significant when tested as mean ratings summing across the first eight sessions of treatment (all ps <.004) and at individual session points (all ps <0.05). A combined prediction model included youth‐reported anxiety, parent‐reported depression, youth engagement at Session 2, and parent engagement at Session 8. This model correctly classified 76.5% of youth as non‐responders and 91.3% as responders at post‐treatment (Nagelkerke R2 =.59, χ2 (4, 80) = 46.54, p <.001). Conclusion: This study provides initial evidence that response to transdiagnostic intervention for pediatric anxiety and depression may be reliably predicted by mid‐point. These data may serve as foundational evidence to develop adaptive treatment strategies to personalize intervention, correct treatment course, and optimize outcomes for youth with anxiety and depression. While organic photovoltaics are accessing specific application sectors taking advantage of their unique properties, it is important to identify as many differentiators as possible to expand the market penetration and consolidation of this technology. In this work, for the first time, the large‐scale fabrication of organic photovoltaic modules embedded into structural plastic parts through industrial injection molding is demonstrated. Thermoplastic polyurethane is chosen as the injected material to show that this additional processing step can yield flexible, lightweight photovoltaic modules with enhanced device robustness and virtually unchanged performance. The critical optomechanical and physico‐chemical material properties, as well as the plastic processing parameters to enable in‐mold plastic solar cells with improved performance and stability, are discussed and provided with perspective. Introduction: Prediction of recurrent ventricular arrhythmia (VA) in survivors of an out‐of‐hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is important, but currently difficult. Risk of recurrence may be related to presence of myocardial scarring assessed with late gadolinium enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (LGE‐CMR). Our study aims to characterize myocardial scarring as defined by LGE‐CMR in survivors of a VA‐OHCA and investigate its potential role in the risk of new VA events. Methods: Between 2015 and 2022, a total of 230 VA‐OHCA patients without ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction had CMR before implantable cardioverter‐defibrillator implantation for secondary prevention at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, and Hospital Clínic, University of Barcelona, of which n = 170 patients had a conventional (no LGE protocol) CMR and n = 60 patients had LGE‐CMR (including LGE protocol). Scar tissue including core, border zone (BZ) and BZ channels were automatically detected by specialized investigational software in patients with LGE‐CMR. The primary endpoint was recurrent VA. Results: After exclusion, n = 52 VA‐OHCA patients with LGE‐CMR and a mean left ventricular ejection fraction of 49 ± 16% were included, of which 18 (32%) patients reached the primary endpoint of VA. Patients with recurrent VA in exhibited greater scar mass, core mass, BZ mass, and presence of BZ channels compared with patients without recurrent VA. The presence of BZ channels identified patients with recurrent VA with 67% sensitivity and 85% specificity (area under the ROC curve (AUC) 0.76; 95% CI: 0.63–0.89; p <.001) and was the strongest predictor of the primary endpoint. Conclusions: The presence of BZ channels was the strongest predictor of recurrent VA in patients with an out of‐hospital cardiac arrest and LGE‐CMR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the presence of phosphorylated tau neurofibrillary tangles and extracellular deposits of amyloid beta plaques (Aβ) in the brain. Microglia cells have been proposed to be involved in amyloid plaque formation since activated microglia produce inflammatory cytokines that contribute to a hostile neuronal environment, exacerbating AD pathogenesis. Method: We aim to evaluate if the pharmacological inhibition of the myeloid/microglial receptor tyrosine kinase AXL, with bemcentinib (BGB) could be used as a novel therapeutic approach for AD. The objective is to evaluate the efficacy of the BGB inhibiting Axl activity in the brain of the 5xFAD mouse model, which recapitulates pathological hallmarks of AD, including Aβ plaques formation and overactive microglia. We evaluated target engagement and performed an efficacy study in 5xFAD and WT mice orally dosed with BGB and Vehicle (Veh) as control. Mice were dosed twice a day for 1 week. Mice were anesthetized to collect CSF and plasma and perfused to obtain their brains. Result: In the present work, we have used the pharmacological Axl inhibitor BGB, to evaluate the therapeutic potential of targeting Axl signaling in 5xFAD mice. We have evaluated the effect of Axl inhibition measuring changes in total Axl levels and its soluble fragment (sAxl) across the hippocampus, plasma, and CSF of 5xFAD mice and WT mice. As expected, we found a significant upregulation of Aβ plaques and microglia in 5xFAD mice, and interestingly, a concomitant upregulation of Axl levels in the hippocampus of 5xFAD mice. We observed, although not statistically significant, a trend of increasing levels of sAxl in CSF and plasma of mice receiving BGB. Unfortunately, no significant effect of BGB drug was detected in 5xFAD mice when Aβ‐plaque burden and Iba1 immunoreactivity was measured after the treatment. Conclusion: Overall, the preliminary findings do not show a significant effect of Axl inhibitor BGB in the brain. The reduced BBB penetrance of the drug could be a potential explanation for lack of significant changes in Axl levels and microglia activation. Objectives: Children undergoing chemotherapy can experience dysphagia due to non‐erosive reflux disease (NERD). Oral mucositis (OM) associated with NERD‐dysphagia in children with cancer has recently been defined with the acronym COMEDY (Clenching, Oral Mucositis, closed Eyes, DYsphagia). This study aims to identify the prevalence of the COMEDY pattern among chemotherapy‐induced OM. Subjects and methods: Forty‐two medical records of children undergoing chemotherapy for haemato‐oncologic diseases and presenting OM were reviewed. The following data were collected: age, type of haemato‐oncologic disease, presence of dysphagia, type of oral mucosal lesions (i.e. traditional oral mucositis or COMEDY pattern), site of oral lesions, ear‐nose‐throat (ENT) assessment for the indirect signs of NERD and paediatric neuro‐psychiatric (PNP) assessment. Results: Among 42 children with chemotherapy‐related OM, 6 patients (14.2%) showed the COMEDY pattern. Besides the characteristic clinical aspect of the oral mucosa, initially classified as grade II OM, these children suffered from NERD‐related dysphagia and PNP issues. Conclusion: A COMEDY pattern can occur in a number of cases of chemotherapy‐induced OM; recognizing this pattern may improve the effectiveness of treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) in acceleration of orthodontic movement of inferior molar uprighting movement. Thirty‐four individuals, with indication of molar uprighting movement for oral rehabilitation, were randomly divided in two groups: verticalization + PBM (808 nm, 100 mW, 1 J per point, 10 points and 25 J/cm2) or verticalization + PBM simulation. Elastomeric chain ligatures were changed every 30 days for 3 months. FBM was performed immediately, 24 h, 72 h, 1 and 2 months after activation. The primary outcome was the amount of uprighting movement. Secondary outcomes were pain, amount of medication, OHIP‐14 questionnaire, and cytokine IL‐1β. PBM group increase uprighting movement when compared to control after 3 months and modulate IL‐1β expression. For pain control, the amount of medication and OHIP‐14 no difference were found. This study suggests that PBM accelerates tooth movement during molar uprighting, due to modulation of IL‐1β during bone remodeling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Understanding differences in sensitization profiles at the molecular allergen level is important for diagnosis, personalized treatment and prevention strategies in allergy. Methods: Immunoglobulin E (IgE) sensitization profiles were determined in more than 2800 sera from children in nine population‐based cohorts in different geographical regions of Europe; north [BAMSE (Sweden), ECA (Norway)], west/central [PIAMA (the Netherlands), BiB (the United Kingdom), GINIplus (Germany)], and south [INMA Sabadell and Gipuzkoa (Spain) and ROBBIC Rome and Bologna (Italy)] using the MeDALL‐allergen chip. Results: Sensitization to grass pollen allergen, Phl p 1, and to major cat allergen, Fel d 1, dominated in most European regions whereas sensitization to house dust mite allergens Der p 1, 2 and 23 varied considerably between regions and were lowest in the north. Less than half of children from Sabadell which has a hot and dry climate were sensitized to respiratory allergens, in particular house dust mite allergens as compared to Gipuzkoa nearby with a more humid climate. Peanut allergen Ara h 1 was the most frequently recognized class 1 food allergen in Northern/Western Europe, while the fruit allergens Pru p 3, Act d 1 and 2 were prominent in Southern and Western/Central Europe. Ves v 5‐sensitization dominated in North and West/Central Europe. Conclusion: We show regional, exposome‐ and climate‐dependent differences in molecular IgE‐reactivity profiles in Northern, Western/Central and Southern Europe which may form a molecular basis for precision medicine‐based approaches for treatment and prevention of allergy. This research used a factorial model containing two levels and three variables to evaluate the partial substitution of sodium feldspar (albite) by a talc ore found in abundance in the region of Itaiacoca—Brazil. The model can also be used to verify the influence of initial talc particle size, proportion, and sintering threshold temperature on the following physical properties, such as linear shrinkage, water absorption, bulk density, total porosity, and firing color. In this study, the mechanical strength of the compositions was evaluated by the flexural strength test. The factorial model indicated the sintering temperature as the variable that most affects the samples' densification and the proportion of talc as the variable that changes the firing color. The experiment that used a higher sintering temperature combined with a coarser talc granulometry presented the highest mechanical strength. When more refined granulometry was used, there was the beginning of an overfire process. Water absorption values in the range of.04% and modulus of rupture of 49 MPa were obtained, confirming the talc's effectiveness as a secondary flux agent suitable for the formulation of ceramic bodies. In the context of the Farm to Fork Strategy, there is a need to continue awareness‐raising efforts about plant health risks amongst the general public and stakeholders. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has been asked to provide technical input on this issue based on social science evidence. This report summarized the preparatory work undertaken to support the development of a multi‐year campaign on plant health. European citizen and plant‐sector operator's level of awareness, and understanding of plant health is generally low, with some plant sector operators (gardeners, nurseries, and farmers) showing higher awareness. Risk perception in relation to plant health and the attitude towards biosecure measures vary across citizens and plant sector operators. As the evidence explained, citizens' perceptions and behaviours are shaped by cultural, and individual‐related factors, while economic factors might influence plant sector operators' risk perception and behaviours. Overall, the research indicates that various actors (citizens, consumers, plant buyers, tourists, air and sea passengers, non‐native European communities living in the EU, horticulturalists, forestry, arboriculture, nurseries, farmers, professional gardeners, online plant sellers, and third countries' commercial partners) can play a role in preserving plant health and as such they could all be potential targets of a plant health campaign. With regards to citizens, four personas were identified: the curious traveller, home gardeners and hobby, the conscious young parent, and the adventurous food responsible. These personas have different motivations and interests and different awareness level in terms of plant health and related risks. Communication messages could be built on these differences. The insights collected and the recommendation outlined serve the purpose of supporting EFSA to provide advice and technical input on the audience segment(s) to be targeted by communication on plant health risks, and a possible multi‐year communication strategy for an awareness‐raising campaign on plant health. Particulate matter, PM10 and PM2.5, represents common air pollutants in cities and constitute a considerable threat to public health impacting daily activity of people living in city. In large cities, the main sources of PM10 and PM2.5 are diesel engine exhaust, brake dust, and particulate matter from vehicle tires. These particles can be deposited, filtered, and considerably reduced if there is a vegetative surface in the neighborhoods, thus eliminating a part of these particles and reducing their harmful footprint. This study evaluates the effect of tree coverage in urban areas on PM10 and PM2.5 removal considering air quality monitoring stations. Estimation of tree coverage is made by using high spatial and temporal resolution satellite images from Planet constellations. An empirical relationship between these two variables, with an acceptable correlation (R2 = 0.478 and R2 = 0.589 for PM10 and PM2.5, respectively), is obtained. A higher abundance of green space is associated with significantly lower PM10 and PM2.5 values. Preliminary results suggest that the amount of tree coverage do cause some degree of air quality improvement and can be used to inform national clean air strategies aimed at reducing pollutant emissions. Summary: Little is known of the course of COVID‐19 and the antibody response to infection or vaccination in patients with hairy‐cell leukaemia (HCL). Among a total of 58 HCL cases we studied in these regards, 37 unvaccinated patients, mostly enjoying a relatively long period free from anti‐leukaemic treatment, developed COVID‐19 between March 2020 and December 2021 with a usually favourable outcome (fatality rate: 5/37, 14%); however, active leukaemia, older age and more comorbidities were associated with a worse course. Postinfection (n = 11 cases) and postvaccination (n = 28) seroconversion consistently developed, except after recent anti‐CD20 or venetoclax therapy, correlating with perivaccine B‐cell count. Vaccination appeared to protect from severe COVID‐19 in 11 patients with breakthrough infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
