In this study, we have synthesized facile Cu‐based CuO:Er2O3 nanoelectrode material for energy storage and generation. CuO:Er2O3 nanomaterial was synthesized employing phyto‐extract of Amaranthus viridis L. (AVL) as stabilizing and reducing agents. Spherical‐shaped CuO:Er2O3 nanomaterial was initially employed to study supercapacitor behavior. The specific capacitance of 82.25 F/g was found at 0.5 A/g by galvanostatic charge–discharge, whereas the value of 319 F/g was achieved at 2 mV/s by cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. Furthermore, CuO:Er2O3 electrode was investigated for water splitting energy generation potential and revealed an overpotential value of 323 mV at 10 mA/cm2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), an overpotential value of 370 mV was found. The electrochemical impedance analysis revealed the faster flow of electrons and ions, suggesting great conductivity and lower resistance of the fabricated electrode. Background: The literature on fatigue in children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment is highly variable, creating uncertainties about its prevalence and identifying those at higher risk. Objectives: The primary purpose was to describe the prevalence of fatigue among patients (< 21 years) undergoing cancer treatment across cancer types. Secondary outcomes included the prevalence of severe fatigue and factors associated with fatigue. Methods: Systematic searches of MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, and PsycINFO were conducted from inception to May 22, 2023. Two reviewers independently identified relevant citations and extracted data. Pooled prevalence estimates were derived using an inverse variance, random‐effects model. We used Joanna Briggs's critical appraisal checklist to assess study quality. (PROSPERO: CRD42020179307). Results: We included 47 studies: 26 for prevalence and 29 for factors associated with fatigue. The pooled prevalence of fatigue was 73% (95% [Confidence Interval, CI: 66%–79%; I2 96%; 26 studies; 2699 patients], and severe fatigue was 30% [95% CI 14%–46%, I2 98%; 8 studies; 1027 patients]). Subgroup analyses based on cancer type, study design, fatigue scale, fatigue reporting personnel, sample frame, and response rate did not reveal significant differences in fatigue prevalence. Fatigue prevalence significantly differed by treatment setting (inpatient [83%] vs. outpatient [55%] vs. inpatient and outpatient [69%]; p: 0.02). Due to considerable heterogeneity among studies, data on fatigue‐associated factors are presented descriptively. Conclusions: The prevalence of fatigue among children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment is variable but notably high. Systematic evaluation of factors associated with fatigue is essential to understanding which children are at high risk of developing fatigue. Circuit influences on the midbrain dopamine system are crucial to adaptive behavior and cognition. Recent developments in the study of neuropeptide systems have enabled high‐resolution investigations of the intersection of neuromodulatory signals with basal ganglia circuitry, identifying the nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ) endogenous opioid peptide system as a prospective regulator of striatal dopamine signaling. Using a prepronociceptin‐Cre reporter mouse line, we characterized highly selective striosomal patterning of Pnoc mRNA expression in mouse dorsal striatum, reflecting the early developmental expression of Pnoc. In the ventral striatum, Pnoc expression in the nucleus accumbens core was grouped in clusters akin to the distribution found in striosomes. We found that PnoctdTomato reporter cells largely comprise a population of dopamine receptor D1 (Drd1) expressing medium spiny projection neurons localized in dorsal striosomes, known to be unique among striatal projection neurons for their direct innervation of midbrain dopamine neurons. These findings provide a new understanding of the intersection of the N/OFQ system among basal ganglia circuits with particular implications for developmental regulation or wiring of striato‐nigral circuits. The sustainable and ecofriendly synthesis of transition metal oxide‐based nanomaterials has always been a matter of concern. In this study, a bioinspired synthesis route was adopted to synthesize ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12‐based mixed nanomaterial using leaf extract of medicinal plant Amaranthus viridis as reducing and stabilizing agent in replacement of the obnoxious chemicals which are a great threat to the sustainable environment. The synthesized material revealed the spherical shaped morphology through scanning electron microscopy, whereas crystal size of 15.7 nm was observed through Xray‐diffraction, and band gap value of 2.7 eV was acquired using Tauc plot. Newly synthesized ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12 nanocomposite was then investigated for its role as electrocatalyst in a generation of energy through the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction. The ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12‐based electrocatalyst showed better potential for hydrogen evolution reaction measurements with the overpotential value of 242 mV. Furthermore, the notable capacitance value of 495.6 F/g was obtained through cyclic voltammetry for energy storage studies. The cyclic stability was also analyzed using linear sweep voltammetry and results showed promising stability for 2000 cycles. Consequently, the green and economical synthesis route as well as promising electrochemical behavior of ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12‐based electrode make it feasible choice for large scale application. Objectives: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs, 18–39 years) with cancer identifying as racially/ethnically minoritized or 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two‐Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and "+" referring to other queer identities) have been underrepresented in cancer research. This study explores the aspects of identity that hold significance for these minoritized AYAs and how these facets impact their healthcare experiences. Methods: Eligible participants comprised English‐speaking AYAs who self‐identified as racially/ethnically minoritized and/or 2SLGBTQIA+, were diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15–39, currently aged > 18, and had received or were receiving cancer care within Canadian healthcare system. Additionally, four patient partners meeting the same criteria were recruited as research collaborators. Semi‐structured one‐on‐one virtual interviews guided by an interview script were conducted, and qualitative analysis employed a framework approach. Results: We recruited 23 participants from 4 Canadian provinces (mean age: 28, Range: 20–44); 17 identified as racially/ethnically minoritized, one as sexual/gender minoritized, and five as racially/ethnically and sexually/gender minoritized. Participants emphasized that their culture/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexuality, gender, family, career, and being an immigrant are important aspects of their identity, with only one participant recognizing their identity as a "person with cancer". A cancer diagnosis altered the aspects of identity deemed most significant by participants. Both visible and invisible aspects of identity shaped participants' experiences and influenced their level of trust in the healthcare system. Conclusion: Racially, ethnically, gender, or sexually minoritized AYAs with cancer place considerable importance on aspects of their identity that are shaped by their respective communities. For illustrative purposes, the article focuses on dermatological conditions, but the content is relevant to all specialties that treat inflammatory and chronic diseases. Background: Treatment goals have been established in Australia to facilitate the management of adults with moderate to severe psoriasis. The Australasian College of Dermatologists sought to determine if and how these adult treatment goals could be modified to accommodate the needs of paediatric and adolescent patients. Methods: A modified Delphi approach was used. Comprehensive literature review and guideline evaluation resulted in the development of statements and other questions to establish current clinical practices. Two rounds of anonymous voting were undertaken, with a collaborative meeting held in between to discuss areas of discordance. Overall, consensus was defined as achievement of ≥75% agreement in the range 7–9 on a 9‐point scale (1 strongly disagree; 9 strongly agree). Results: Consensus was achieved on 23/29 statements in round 1 and 17/18 statements in round 2. There was a high level of concordance with treatment criteria in the adult setting. The limitations of applying assessment tools developed for use in adult patients to the paediatric setting were highlighted. Treatment targets in the paediatric setting should include objective metrics for disease severity and psychological impact on the patients and their family, and be based on validated, age‐appropriate tools. Conclusion: While the assessment, classification and management of moderate to severe psoriasis in paediatric patients aligns with metrics established for adults, it is vital that nuances in the transition from childhood to adolescence be taken into account. This study investigates the environmentally friendly synthesis of ZrO2‐NdO mixed nanomaterial using green reducing and capping agents derived from the plant Amaranthus viridis. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the successful synthesis of the mixed nanomaterial, revealing an optical band gap of 2.5 eV. The morphology was characterized by spherical‐shaped particles with an average size ranging from 66 to 77 nm. The synthesized ZrO2‐NdO mixed nanomaterial was evaluated for its potential application as an electrode material in energy devices, specifically for pseudocapacitors and water splitting studies. Electrochemical performance was assessed using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) techniques. Notably, a specific capacitance of 573.5 F/g was achieved through CV at a scan rate of 2 mV/s. Fabricated electrocatalyst was further analyzed for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and the results showed better over potential value of 164 mV for HER studies. Introduction: People with low income have worse outcomes throughout the cancer care continuum; however, little is known about income and the diagnostic interval. We described diagnostic pathways by neighborhood income and investigated the association between income and the diagnostic interval. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of colon cancer patients diagnosed 2007–2019 in Ontario using routinely collected data. The diagnostic interval was defined as the number of days from the first colon cancer encounter to diagnosis. Asymptomatic pathways were defined as first encounter with a colonoscopy or guaiac fecal occult blood test not occurring in the emergency department and were examined separately from symptomatic pathways. Quantile regression was used to determine the association between neighborhood income quintile and the conditional 50th and 90th percentile diagnostic interval controlling for age, sex, rural residence, and year of diagnosis. Results: A total of 64,303 colon cancer patients were included. Patients residing in the lowest income neighborhoods were more likely to be diagnosed through symptomatic pathways and in the emergency department. Living in low‐income neighborhoods was associated with longer 50th and 90th‐percentile symptomatic diagnostic intervals compared to patients living in the highest income neighborhoods. For example, the 90th percentile diagnostic interval was 15 days (95% CI 6–23) longer in patients living in the lowest income neighborhoods compared to the highest. Conclusion: These findings reveal income inequities during the diagnostic phase of colon cancer. Future work should determine pathways to reducing inequalities along the diagnostic interval and evaluate screening and diagnostic assessment programs from an equity perspective. The objective of this study is to thoroughly investigate the synthesis and application of a thin film MnS2:CoS:Al2S3. To produce the thin film, diethyldithiocarbamate as a source of sulphur through a technique called physical vapour deposition was utilized. A wide range of analytical techniques were used to examine the structural, morphological, and optical properties of the fabricated material. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the crystallite size 26.4 nm with a crystallinity of 77%. The optical properties determined the band gap energy to be 4.02 eV. Cabbage‐like assemblies were confirmed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy unveiled distinct core level peaks associated with Mn 2p, Al 2p, Co 2p, and S 2p. To evaluate the electrochemical properties of the material, voltammetry measurements were conducted. The results from these experiments revealed an exceptional specific capacitive performance with a value of 792.6 Fg−1. This outstanding performance, coupled with the notable stability of the thin film during multiple cycles, positions it as a highly promising candidate for various energy storage applications. Furthermore, an extensive investigation was carried out to assess the photocatalytic capabilities of the fabricated material. Water contamination caused by inconsistencies in the removal of contemporary colors and heavy metals constitutes a serious global ecological concern. This study introduces a composite material made of cellulose acetate coated with activated carbon, which is made more effective by including pectic enzymes. This composite is easily manufactured and has caused considerable interest due to its potential in wastewater treatment via absorption‐based techniques for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye and lead removal. Thermal processing and electrospinning are used in the synthesis process. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM), Energy Dispersive Xray‐ Analysis (EDX), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), and UV‐absorbency were used to characterize the resultant pectic cellulose/activated carbon nanofibers (P‐CNFs). In addition, inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectroscopy (ICP‐MS) was used to evaluate lead ion adsorption. Several parameters, including initial lead ion and methylene blue concentrations, solution pH, and nanofiber, were investigated. Fifty percent of pectic‐containing composite (cellulose/activated carbon) P‐CNF has shown remarkable differences when compared to non‐pectic and different ratio composite due to higher surface area and porosity. It also increases light absorption and decreases charge recombination, resulting in a maximum degradation efficiency of 98.5% in a neutral solution under UV‐light irradiation for 25 min, compared to pure CNF (degradation efficiency is 49% after 60 min of irradiation). In this research, an extensive exploration of bimetallic sulfide, CuZr2S4, is delved into. It involves the utilization of diethyldithiocarbamate as a sulfur source. Background: Cancer is a leading cause of death among people living with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Although studies have documented lower cancer screening rates, there is limited epidemiological evidence quantifying potential diagnostic delays. This study explores the risk of metastatic cancer stage for people with IDD compared to those without IDD among breast (female), colorectal, and lung cancer patients in Canada. Methods: Separate population‐based cross‐sectional studies were conducted in Ontario and Manitoba by linking routinely collected data. Breast (female), colorectal, and lung cancer patients were included (Manitoba: 2004–2017; Ontario: 2007–2019). IDD status was identified using established administrative algorithms. Modified Poisson regression with robust error variance models estimated associations between IDD status and the likelihood of being diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Adjusted relative risks were pooled between provinces using random‐effects meta‐analyses. Potential effect modification was considered. Results: The final cohorts included 115,456, 89,815, and 101,811 breast (female), colorectal, and lung cancer patients, respectively. Breast (female) and colorectal cancer patients with IDD were 1.60 and 1.44 times more likely to have metastatic cancer (stage IV) at diagnosis compared to those without IDD (relative risk [RR], 1.60; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.16–2.20; RR, 1.44; 95% CI, 1.24–1.67). This increased risk was not observed in lung cancer. Significant effect modification was not observed. Conclusions: People with IDD were more likely to have stage IV breast and colorectal cancer identified at diagnosis compared to those without IDD. Identifying factors and processes contributing to stage disparities such as lower screening rates and developing strategies to address diagnostic delays is critical. People with intellectual or developmental disabilities were more likely to be diagnosed with metastatic breast and colorectal cancer compared to those without. Background: Considerable research efforts have been dedicated to comprehensively evaluate the electrochemical and photocatalytic properties of newly synthesized metal sulfides. Aims: This research aims to determine the viability of using metal sulfide, MnS2:Ni9S8:Co3S4 thin film with excellent energy retention capacities and amazing photocatalytic activities. Materials & Methods: Single source precursor method was utilized for the synthesis of metal sulfide. Furthermore, deposition of thin film was performed through physical vapour deposition route. Detailed characterization was done by using UV-visible spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction crystallography and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Electrochemical investigation was done through cyclic and linear sweep voltammetry while competence of the thin film in degrading various environmental pollutants, including crystal violet dye, fuberidazole and phenol, was evaluated by photocatalytic degradation. Results & Discussion: A crystallite size of 47 nm with 86.5% crystallinity was found along with a 3.4 eV bandgap energy. Round-edged cubical structures in the composite were seen. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed core level peaks of Mn 2p, Ni 2p, Co 2p and S 2p. A specific capacitance of 590 Fg-1 was observed from the electrochemical analysis showing the presence of electroactive sites that allow for effective electrochemical processes. After 60 minutes of exposure to the thin film, phenol showed the slowest rate of degradation, whereas crystal violet and fuberidazole showed significant percentages of deterioration. Conclusion: The findings highlight MnS2:Ni9S8:Co3S4 thin film's adaptability as viable compound for addressing the critical concerns of storing energy, production, and environmental cleanup. The research was done on the creation and use of bi‐metal sulfide thin film, Nd2S3:Ni9S8. 41 nm‐sized crystallites with 80% crystallinity were found in the material. The evaluated optical characteristics showed a 2.9 eV band gap energy. The presence of Nd3d, S2p, and Ni2p in the created material was confirmed by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Voltammetry tests were carried out to assess the electrochemical characteristics. With a value of 750 Fg−1, the findings obtained showed remarkable supercapacitive capability. Additionally, a thorough examination was done to learn more about the material's potential as a photocatalyst. Malachite green dye, fuberidazole, and phenol were used as environmental contaminants to test the thin films' photocatalytic degradation effectiveness. The highest degradation was found for fuberidazole with a rate constant of 2.46x10−2 min−1. The results demonstrated the versatility of thin films and their efficacy in degrading these pollutants, highlighting their potential for environmental remediation applications. In 2022, there were 4514 reported cases of occupational accidents in Malaysian manufacturing industry, which is the highest among the sectors. Although governmental regulations mandate the use of personal protective equipment and safe working procedures, workers still take risks while completing their job. Behavioral‐based safety (BBS) approach has become a reliable way for correcting workers' behavior and improving their safety performance. This article presents findings from the BBS safety intervention program and reports its effectiveness in increasing the number of workers performing safe acts. The developed program, namely BSOP (behavior‐based safety observation program), use four basic principles: (i) goal‐setting, (ii) behavioral observation, (iii) constructive feedback, and (iv) reward and celebration. During execution, behavioral observation was conducted daily by appointed observers for 4 months. Results showed that the program reduced at‐risk behavior (measured by the percent increase of safe acts) from 61% during baseline to 73% and 82% during the first and second behavioral observation cycles toward 14 identified targeted behavior. This study presents a comprehensive and structured process of developing safety interventions. This article presents two cases of giant cell tumor (GCT) following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, demonstrating the onset and progression of the tumor on imaging. The first case involved a 24-year-old male who presented with knee pain and swelling three years after ACL reconstruction, and the second case involved a 22-year-old male who experienced increasing pain and swelling in the medial knee 18 months after reconstruction. Both cases showed the evolution of GCT over a period of 15 to 34 months. Dogs Canis lupus familiaris, among canids, have emerged as the most successful predators and facultative scavengers, and have prevented other carnivores from approaching human habitats through intraguild competition. Over time with increasing population and livestock predation, they have become a matter of concern for pastoralists. The present study was conducted to understand the patterns of free-ranging dogs’ predation on livestock and wildlife, from 2015 to 2017 in Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary (CWLS), Ladakh, India. Information was collected on (a) dog populations in 10 sites using polygon search in Spatially Explicit Capture-Recapture framework and block count, (b) their diet using scat analysis (n = 205) and (c) perceptions of pastoralists towards dogs through questionnaire-based interviews (n = 210). Dog densities varied between 10 and 310 individuals/ 100 km² and were high in and around human habitations. A major part of their diet constituted of livestock (74.29%) and wild species (13.06%). Among wild prey species, birds (4.49%), lagomorphs (3.67%), rodents (2.45%) and Tibetan wild ass (1.63%) had high occurrence in dog diet. The local people admitted that dogs pose a threat to livestock and wildlife. As unowned free-ranging dogs harm livestock and wildlife, about 40% of the respondents had negative perceptions towards them. The perception varied with occupation and pastoralists were more negative than non-pastoralists (P < 0.001). We suggest that effective mechanisms need to be identified or developed to manage dog populations in ecologically and economically sensitive areas to minimise the threats and safeguard the endangered wildlife and local livelihoods. Neodymium Indium sulphide (Nd4In5S13) photoactive electrode was produced by spin‐coating for photoelectrochemical cell. The photoactive electrode is analysed for its crystalline, structural and elements makeup in addition to its optical and electrical responses. A 56 nm sized orthorhombic crystallite was found and geometrical compact structures were observed. The presence of chief elements with core levels of In3d, Nd4d and S2p were detected. The bandgap energy was found to be 4.1 eV. Electrochemical investigations were performed to evaluate the photoactive efficiency of the electrode. Photo‐cyclic voltammetry present a specific capacitance under illumination to be 570 Fg−1, as contrasting to 481 Fg−1 when in dark. A photocurrent density of 282 mA cm−2 was obtained from photo‐linear sweep voltammetry. It had also been discovered that the transient chronoamperometry provided a photocurrent density of 46.1 mA cm−2. Whereas electrical impedance spectroscopy presented internal resistance (Rs) to be 232 Ω. All scan rates show an increase in the specific capacitance of photo‐electrode when illuminated. The research created an effective photo‐electrode for renewable energy structures. It can be posited that the study presented a pragmatic photoelectrode, which had the potential to be employed in sustainable energy frameworks, including but not limited to photovoltaics, supercapacitors, and photoelectrochemical solar cells. Objective: This qualitative study explores the experiences of 26 family members supporting Canadian Armed Forces veterans living with mental health problems including operational stress injuries (OSIs). Background: The research focusing on military‐connected families emphasizes the impacts of service on the families. Little is known about how families impact military veterans, particularly those diagnosed with OSIs. This research addresses that gap by revealing the capabilities and demands characterizing their everyday lives. Method: Semistructured interviews with 26 individuals identifying as family members of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) veterans and three focus groups (three participants in each group for a total of nine) with family members of CAF veterans released within the preceding 10 years were conducted. The veterans were living with broadly defined diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health problems including OSIs. Using the family adjustment and adaptation (FAAR) model as an organizational framework, demands and capabilities embodied within the everyday lives of the family members were revealed. Results: Monitoring the well‐being of the veteran, managing daily life, accessing and mobilizing resources, and caregiving were discussed as capabilities by participants in this study. These capabilities buffer the demands associated with the veteran's mental health problems. Conclusions: Results of this study endorse recommendations for family‐centered program and service development, modeled on approaches that recognize the systemic and relational contexts instrumental in supporting positive outcomes for veterans with OSIs. Introduction: Cancer symptom screening has the potential to improve cancer outcomes, including reducing symptom burden among patients with major mental illness (MMI). We determined rates of symptom screening with the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS‐r) and risk of severe symptoms in cancer patients with MMI. Methods: This retrospective cohort study used linked administrative health databases of adults diagnosed with cancer between 2007 and 2020. An MMI was measured in the 5 years prior to cancer diagnosis and categorized as inpatient, outpatient, or no MMI. Outcomes were defined as time to first ESAS‐r screening and time to first moderate‐to‐severe symptom score. Cause‐specific and Fine and Gray competing events models were used for both outcomes, controlling for age, sex, rural residence, year of diagnosis and cancer site. Results: Of 389,870 cancer patients, 4049 (1.0%) had an inpatient MMI and 9775 (2.5%) had an outpatient MMI. Individuals with inpatient MMI were least likely to complete an ESAS‐r (67.5%) compared to those with outpatient MMI (72.3%) and without MMI (74.8%). Compared to those without MMI, individuals with an inpatient or outpatient MMI had a lower incidence of symptom screening records after accounting for the competing risk of death (subdistribution Hazard Ratio 0.77 (95% CI 0.74–0.80) and 0.88 (95% CI 0.86–0.90) respectively). Individuals with inpatient and outpatient MMI status consistently had a significantly higher risk of reporting high symptom scores across all symptoms. Conclusions: Understanding the disparity in ESAS‐r screening and management for cancer patients with MMI is a vital step toward providing equitable cancer care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Arsenate species are hazardous, toxic, and carcinogenic, they pose a significant risk to human health. In this finding, we have fabricated the Chitosan, β‐cyclodextrin and Fe2O3 (CS‐βCD‐Fe2O3) composite nanofibers through electrospinning for arsenic (As‐III) adsorption in a lab‐scale designed continuous filtration system. The SEM images have shown the bead free morphology of the prepared nanofibers and chemical composition was characterized by Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The experimental data supported monolayer adsorptions by having a good fit to the Langmuir model. Further, kinetic studies have been conducted to illustrate the adsorption of As‐III onto CS‐βCD‐Fe2O3. The CS‐βCD‐Fe2O3 nanofibers at neutral pH have shown 83% adsorption efficiency of As‐III in the batch experiments and 72% in continuous filtration system with a flow rate of 660 mL/h. Additionally, the reusability of the nanofibers was performed, and 60% adsorption efficiency was achieved up to the 5th cycle for batch adsorption. Our prepared composite CS‐βCD‐Fe2O3 nanofibers could be used in both batch adsorption and continuous filtration system for removal of As‐III from aqueous solution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Does geographic variation in personality across the United States relate to COVID‐19 vaccination rates? To answer this question, we combined multiple state‐level datasets: (a) Big Five personality averages (i.e., extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness; Rentfrow et al., 2008), (b) COVID‐19 full‐vaccination rates (CDC, 2021a), (c) health‐relevant demographic covariates (population density, per capita gross domestic product, and racial/ethnic data; Webster et al., 2021), and (d) political and religiosity data. Analyses showed openness as the strongest correlate of full‐vaccination rates (r = 0.51). Controlling for other traits, demographic covariates, and spatial dependence, openness remained significantly related to full‐vaccination rates (rp = 0.55). Adding political and religiosity data to this model diminished openness effects for full‐vaccination rates to non‐significance (rp = 0.26); however, extraversion emerged as a significant correlate of full‐vaccination rates (rp = 0.37). Although politics are paramount, we suspect that states with higher average openness scores are more conducive to novel thinking and behavior—dispositions that may be crucial in motivating people to take newly‐developed vaccines based on new technologies to confront a novel coronavirus. Constructing nanostructures that fully boost the performance of all metals while offering a positive inter‐particle effect among frameworks is an efficient approach for enhancing electrochemical effectiveness. Elongated In : SnO2/La4NiS7 structure is created using diethyl dithiocarbamate complex. Investigations were done on the material's surficial, crystallographical and electrochemical characters. The direct optical band gap as determined by UV‐visible analysis was 2.9 eV. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy presented La3d and Ni2p core level. Electrical investigations of the transparent photoactive electrode in a photoelectrochemical cell showed an exceptional specific capacity of 906 F ⋅ g−1 at 5 mV ⋅ s−1 under illumination. Transient chronoamperometric response of the photoelectrode presented 35.3 mA photocurrent generation. Greater photocurrents were achieved at all scan rates in the existence of light indicating that the exposure to light positively impacted the electrode's performance. Daprodustat, an orally bioavailable hypoxia‐inducible factor–prolyl hydroxylase enzyme inhibitor, has recently completed phase 3 clinical development for treating anemia of chronic kidney disease. Part A of this 2‐part, randomized, double‐blind, single‐dose, cross‐over study (NCT04640311) compared pharmacokinetic properties of a single oral dose of daprodustat 4 mg tablets manufactured via twin‐screw wet granulation (process 1) to 2 sets of 4 mg tablets manufactured via high‐shear wet granulation (process 2), to assess the impact of different dissolution profiles on pharmacokinetics. Part B assessed the bioequivalence of daprodustat tablets manufactured via process 1 with tablets manufactured via process 2 at 5 different dose strengths (1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 mg). In part A, mean plasma concentrations of daprodustat were comparable over a 24‐hour period despite differences in manufacturing processes and dissolution profiles. In part B, the 90% confidence intervals of the ratios of the least squared means for area under the concentration‐time curve and maximum observed plasma concentration fell within the 0.8–1.25 bioequivalence range for all doses, except for maximum observed plasma concentration at 8 mg. Photocatalytic degradation from Photocatalytic Nanomaterials composites is a great possibility to investigate the energy shortage and potential natural risks determined by nanomaterial composites. Graphite oxide and carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were added to Polyacrylonitrile nanofibers to improve the photocatalytic activity and mechanical qualities of the composite nanofibers. Under visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes—methylene blue dye from the simulated industrial wastewater has been studied. Electrospinning is used to create polyacrylonitrile nanofibers, which are then chemically cross‐linked with graphite oxide and CQDs to get efficient photocatalytic degradation. In‐depth analysis has been done on every parameter relating to dyes and the photocatalytic degradation mechanism. Using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis, the surface sensitization and morphological changes of the synthesized composite nanofibers were investigated. With a 100% degradation efficiency for MB after 25 min, sensitized CQDs with graphite oxide demonstrated better efficiency in the degradation of MB when compared with pristine elements. The ideal catalytic conditions, including pH and starting organic dye content, were discussed. Methylene blue dye degraded more effectively as initial concentrations dropped. The reaction rate slows down at a pH of 7. The proposed composite demonstrated high stability and reusability for MB dye, and the cost‐controlling method can be utilized in advanced applications. Spin coating from a single source precursor is used to produce a transparent conductive electrode for a photoelectrochemical cell. Yb2S3:Cu2S:ZnS is discovered in the composite using X‐ray diffraction analysis with a crystallite size of 44 nm. Energy‐dispersive X‐ray analysis and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal that the composite comprises Yb, Cu, Zn, and S with an optical bandgap of 2.49 eV. Electrical investigations in a photoelectrochemical cell are measured using cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry, transient chronoamperometry (CA), and electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Every experiment shows that the photocurrent density of the electrode is higher than when it is in the light. At all scan rates, light causes the photoelectrode's specific capacitance to increase. Specific capacitance is found to have a maximum value under illumination of 789 Fg−1 as opposed to 745 Fg−1 in the absence of a light source. The highest photocurrent density achieved by the electrode through CA is 23.5 mA. Rs value of 23.4 Ω is subsequently obtained by the EIS investigation. It might be stated that this work introduces a useful photoelectrode that can be used in renewable energy systems such as photovoltaics, supercapacitors, and photoelectrochemical solar cells. Background: Little is known about the association between the COVID-19 pandemic and early survival among newly diagnosed cancer patients. Methods: This retrospective population-based cohort study used linked administrative datasets from Ontario, Canada. Adults (=18 years) who received a cancer diagnosis between March 15 and December 31, 2020, were included in a pandemic cohort, while those diagnosed during the same dates in 2018/2019 were included in a pre-pandemic cohort. All patients were followed for one full year after the date of diagnosis. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to assess survival in relation to the pandemic, patient characteristics at diagnosis, and the modality of first cancer treatment as a time-varying covariate. Interaction terms were explored to measure the pandemic association with survival for each cancer type. Results: Among 179,746 patients, 53,387 (29.7%) were in the pandemic cohort and 37,741 (21.0%) died over the first post-diagnosis year. No association between the pandemic and survival was found when adjusting for patient characteristics at diagnosis (HR 0.99 [95% CI 0.96-1.01]), while marginally better survival was found for the pandemic cohort when the modality of treatment was additionally considered (HR 0.97 [95% CI 0.95-0.99]). When examining each cancer type, only a new melanoma diagnosis was associated with a worse survival in the pandemic cohort (HR 1.25 [95% CI 1.05-1.49]). Conclusions: Among patients able to receive a cancer diagnosis during the pandemic, one-year overall survival was not different than those diagnosed in the previous 2 years. Introduction: Maximizing patients' quality of life (QoL) is a central goal in surgical oncology. Currently, both laparoscopic and robotic surgery are viable options in rectal cancer (RC) resections. The aim of this systematic review was to analyze the differences in postoperative QoL between the two operative modalities. Methodology: This review was conducted in adherence to the PRISMA guidelines. MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and CENTRAL databases were searched for articles comparing QoL in patients undergoing laparoscopic versus robotic surgery for RC. Seven studies were included (two randomized controlled trials, four prospective cohorts, and one retrospective cohort) out of which six reported data suitable for meta-analysis. Global QoL and QoL subdomains, such as physical and social functioning, were meta-analyzed using a random-effects model. Risk of bias was assessed using the ROBINS-I and Cochrane RoB-2 tools. Results: Data on 869 patients (440 laparoscopic and 429 robotic surgery) across six studies were meta-analyzed. There was no significant difference in global QoL (Mean Difference:−0.43 [95% Confidence Interval:−3.49–2.62]). Physical functioning was superior after robotic surgery (1.92 [0.97–2.87]). However, nausea/vomiting, pain, and fatigue did not differ between groups. Perception of body image was worse after laparoscopic surgery (−5.06 [−9.05– −1.07]). Other psychosocial subdomains (emotional, cognitive, role, and social functioning) were comparable between groups. Conclusion: Laparoscopic and robotic surgery for RC have comparable QoL overall, for both physical and psychological dimensions. Background and objectives: Bone tumours are relatively rare and, as a consequence, treatment in a centre with expertise is required. Current treatment guidelines also recommend review by a specialised pathologist. Here we report on international consensus‐based datasets for the pathology reporting of biopsy and resection specimens of bone sarcomas. The datasets were produced under the auspices of the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR), a global alliance of major (inter‐)national pathology and cancer organisations. Methods and results: According to the ICCR's process for dataset development, an international expert panel consisting of pathologists, an oncologic orthopaedic surgeon, a medical oncologist, and a radiologist produced a set of core and noncore data items for biopsy and resection specimens based on a critical review and discussion of current evidence. All professionals involved were bone tumour experts affiliated with tertiary referral centres. Commentary was provided for each data item to explain the rationale for selecting it as a core or noncore element, its clinical relevance, and to highlight potential areas of disagreement or lack of evidence, in which case a consensus position was formulated. Following international public consultation, the documents were finalised and ratified, and the datasets, including a synoptic reporting guide, were published on the ICCR website. Conclusion: These first international datasets for bone sarcomas are intended to promote high‐quality, standardised pathology reporting. Their widespread adoption will improve the consistency of reporting, facilitate multidisciplinary communication, and enhance comparability of data, all of which will help to improve management of bone sarcoma patients. Deuterated water (²H2O) is a widely used tracer of carbohydrate biosynthesis in both preclinical and clinical settings, but the significant kinetic isotope effects (KIE) of ²H can distort metabolic information and mediate toxicity. 18O-water (H2 18O) has no significant KIE and is incorporated into specific carbohydrate oxygens via well-defined mechanisms, but to date it has not been evaluated in any animal model. Mice were given H218O during overnight feeding and 18O-enrichments of liver glycogen, triglyceride glycerol (TG), and blood glucose were quantified by 13C NMR and mass spectrometry (MS). Enrichment of oxygens 5 and 6 relative to body water informed indirect pathway contributions from the Krebs cycle and triose phosphate sources. Compared with mice fed normal chow (NC), mice whose NC was supplemented with a fructose/glucose mix (i.e., a high sugar [HS] diet) had significantly higher indirect pathway contributions from triose phosphate sources, consistent with fructose glycogenesis. Blood glucose and liver TG 18O-enrichments were quantified by MS. Blood glucose 18O-enrichment was significantly higher for HS versus NC mice and was consistent with gluconeogenic fructose metabolism. TG 18O-enrichment was extensive for both NC and HS mice, indicating a high turnover of liver triglyceride, independent of diet. Thus H2 18O informs hepatic carbohydrate biosynthesis in similar detail to ²H2O but without KIE-associated risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The COVID‐19 pandemic has increased the risk of psychological distress for older adults during a period of reduced access to mental health support. We identified predictors of persistent depressive and anxiety symptoms among older adults throughout the initial 9 months of the pandemic. Methods: This was a longitudinal study using web‐based surveys sent to a convenience sample of Canadians aged ≥55 years. A baseline survey was sent in May 2020, with eight surveys sent monthly between June 2020 and January 2021. Data were separated into three study periods, corresponding to coronavirus case rates. Respondents who met predetermined thresholds for elevated depressive or anxiety symptoms using standardized mental health scales during all three periods were defined as having persistent symptoms. Multivariable Poisson regression was used to compare the risk of persistent symptoms across respondent characteristics selected a priori. Results: There were 835 respondents who answered questions about depressive symptoms and 865 who answered questions about anxiety symptoms across all three study periods. Among those with complete follow‐up data, 19.2% (n = 159/827) reported persistent depressive symptoms and 16.4% (n = 140/856) reported persistent anxiety symptoms. Respondents with persistent depressive symptoms were more likely to be women (adjusted relative risk [aRR] 1.71; 95% CI 1.19–2.46), and report multimorbidity (aRR 1.45; 95% CI 1.07–1.97), pre‐existing depression (aRR 2.00; 95% CI 1.45–2.77) and pre‐existing anxiety (aRR 1.50; 95% CI 1.10–2.06). The same respondent characteristics were correlates of persistently elevated anxiety symptoms. Conclusions: Older women, older adults with pre‐existing depression and anxiety, and those with multimorbidity were more likely to report persistent mental health symptoms during the first 9 months of the COVID‐19 pandemic. These individuals were known to have elevated risk prior to the pandemic, and expanded interventions targeted to these groups are necessary to adequately address their mental health needs. BACKGROUND: Vanadium‐doped manganese dioxide (V‐MnO2) was fabricated for effective photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP) and moxifloxacin (MOXI) antibiotics under visible light. V‐MnO2 fabricated by simple redox method was characterized by spectrophotometry, scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, zeta potential, dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) techniques. RESULTS: DLS measured average particles size of 93.18 nm for MnO2, which reduced to 88 nm for V‐ MnO2 and zeta potential indicated −11.5 mV for MnO2 and 17.7 mV for 1% V‐MnO2. PL spectra of V‐MnO2 was suppressed as compared to MnO2 spectra, indicating a decrease in electron hole recombination and leading to increased photocatalytic activity of V‐MnO2. Band gap results revealed a successful decrease in band gap of MnO2 from 3.30 to 2.82 eV after doping with 1% V. Maximum degradation of CIP and MOXI achieved was 92% ± 2.98% and 79.5% ±2.15%, respectively, at pH 6. Optimum visible light irradiation of 180 and 300 min was calculated for CIP and MOXI, respectively. V‐MnO2 catalyst was recyclable for three cycles. CONCLUSION: V‐MnO2 catalyst was successfully applied to treatment of CIP and MOXI in spiked real water supply and sewage wastewater samples. Computational molecular models of CIP, MOXI, MnO2 and V‐MnO2 were built and optimized. Total energy values measured by a semi‐empirical method revealed that V‐MnO2 structure was less stable than MnO2, with weakened bonds between Mn atoms of MnO2 structure after doping of V ions. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry (SCI). Summary: Ternary metal sulphide Zr2S3‐BaS‐Cr2S3 thin film was fabricated through physical vapour deposition and characterized. A mixed morphology with flakes and rice grains‐like particles was observed in the material. The average crystallite size of the nanocomposite was 21.8 nm as determined through X‐ray diffraction (XRD). Band gap energy of 3.7 eV was observed for the nanocomposite. Thin film was explored for energy storage potential as supercapacitor electrode by electrochemical investigation through cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry. An impressive specific capacitance of 455 F g−1 was obtained at the scan rate of 100 mV s−1. Moreover, the photocatalytic property of the thin film was also investigated for environmental remediation of organic contaminants including, methylene blue dye, pesticide zoxamide and phenol. Highest photocatalysis was witnessed for dye (86%) with degradation rate constant of 3.24 × 10−2 min−1. Whereas, the degradation rate dwindled to only 73% after four cycles of photocatalysis. Summary: Metal sulfides conjugated graphene oxide (GO) have captivated researchers owing to the elaborated opto‐electrochemical and photocatalytic properties. Current research reports the synthesis of Copper sulfide (CuS) and cadmium sulfide (CdS) bimetal sulfide GO composite by single‐source precursor using diethyl dithiocarbamate ligand. The synthesized alloy was deposited through electron beam deposition system. Characterization of the thin films was done by various techniques including, XRD, UV‐visible spectrophotometry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)‐energy dispersive X‐ray analysis (EDX). Electrochemical properties were investigated through cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry using 3‐M KOH. Degradation of toxicants such as methyl red dye, pesticide isopyrazam, and phenol was done by the thin film to evaluate its photocatalytic characteristic. (CuS‐CdS)GO thin film showed separate bandgaps for CuS and CdS as 2.04 and 3.3 eV. A hexagonal crystal system for (Cu2S‐CdS)GO was observed through XRD with an average crystal size of 50 nm. A cubic shape with globular edges was detected by SEM investigation. An impressive specific capacitance value of 35 F g−1 at 100 mV s−1 proved it as a promising electrode for supercapacitors. A remarkable photocatalytic degradation rate was obtained by the thin film for all the toxicants with the highest rate for pesticide, that is, 81% under just 60 minutes, which remained >70% even after four successive cycles. Daprodustat is a hypoxia‐inducible factor‐prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor in development for treatment of anemia of chronic kidney disease. We evaluated the role of hepatic impairment on daprodustat pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and tolerability. Participants with mild (Child‐Pugh Class A, score 5‒6) and moderate (Child‐Pugh Class B, score 7‒9) hepatic impairment and matched healthy controls were administered single 6‐mg doses of daprodustat. Exposure parameters were determined for daprodustat and its six metabolites. Comparisons resulted in 1.5‐ and 2.0‐fold higher daprodustat Cmax and area under the curve (AUC) exposures in participants with mild and moderate hepatic impairment, respectively, versus controls; Cmax in mild hepatic impairment was comparable to controls. Similarly, aligned with parent drug, unbound daprodustat Cmax and AUC exposures increased 1.6‐ to 2.3‐fold in hepatic‐impaired participants versus controls, and metabolite exposures were 1.2‐ to 2.0‐fold higher in participants with hepatic impairment. Erythropoeitin (EPO) baseline‐corrected AUC exposures were between 0.3‐fold lower and 2.2‐fold higher in matched controls versus hepatic‐impaired participants. No serious or study drug‐related adverse events were reported. Daprodustat exposure was increased in participants with moderate and mild hepatic impairment compared with matched controls; however, no meaningful differences in EPO were observed and no new safety concerns were identified (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03223337). CIC‐rearranged sarcoma is a recently established, ultra‐rare, molecularly defined sarcoma subtype. We aimed to further characterise clinical features of CIC‐rearranged sarcomas and explore clinical management including systemic treatments and outcomes. Methods: A multi‐centre retrospective cohort study of patients diagnosed between 2014–2019. Results: Eighteen patients were identified. The median age was 27 years (range 13–56), 10 patients were male (56%), 11 patients (61%) had localised disease and 7 patients had advanced (metastatic or unresectable) disease at diagnosis. Of 11 patients with localised disease at diagnosis, median overall survival (OS) was 40.6 months and the 1‐, 2‐ and 5‐year OS estimates were 82%, 64% and 34% respectively. Nine patients (82%) underwent surgery (all had R0 resections), 8 (73%) patients received radiotherapy to the primary site (median dose 57Gy in 28 fractions), and 8 (73%) patients received chemotherapy (predominantly Ewing‐based regimens). Metastases developed in 55% with a median time to recurrence of 10.5 months. In patients with advanced disease at diagnosis, median OS was 12.6 months (95% CI 5.1–20.1), 1‐year OS was 57%. Median progression‐free survival was 5.8 months (95% CI 4.5–7.2). Durable systemic therapy responses occurred infrequently with a median duration of systemic treatment response of 2.1 months. One durable complete response of metastatic disease to VDC/IE chemotherapy was seen. Responses to pazopanib (n = 1) and pembrolizumab (n = 1) were not seen. Conclusion: In this series, CIC‐rearranged sarcomas affected young adults and had a high incidence of presenting with, or developing, metastatic disease. The prognosis overall was poor. Background: This study investigated prevalence of psychological distress, factors associated with distress, and experiences of Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs) with cancer during the COVID‐19 pandemic. It also compared distress in this group to previously surveyed Canadian AYAs with cancer in 2018 by the Young Adults with Cancer in their Prime (YACPRIME) study. Methods: A cross‐sectional, online, self‐administered survey of AYAs diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years of age was conducted. Psychological distress was measured by the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10). Associations between variables and high psychological distress (K10 ≥ 25), and comparison of prevalence of psychological distress with the YACPRIME study were done using multivariable logistic regression. Summative qualitative content analysis analyzed participant experiences during this pandemic. Results: We included 805 participants. High psychological distress was present in over two‐thirds of the group (68.0%; 95% CI, 64.7%–71.2%). Employment impact during pandemic (AOR (adjusted odds ratio), 2.16; 95% CI, 1.41–3.31) and hematologic malignancy (AOR, 1.76; 95% CI 1.08–2.97) were associated with higher psychological distress, while older age [AOR, 0.95; 95% CI, 0.92–0.99] and personal income < $40,000 (AOR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.24–0.58) were associated with lower distress. Adjusted odds of experiencing psychological distress among AYAs with cancer during pandemic compared to pre‐pandemic years was 1.85 (95% CI: 1.36–2.53). Overarching themes of pandemic experiences included: inferior quality of life, impairment of cancer care, COVID‐19 related concerns and extreme social isolation. Conclusion: AYAs diagnosed with cancer are experiencing high psychological distress during this pandemic. Distress screening and evidence‐based interventions to alleviate distress are essential. Daprodustat, an oral hypoxia‐inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor, is being investigated for treatment of anemia in chronic kidney disease. This phase 1, nonrandomized, 2‐period, crossover study in 6 healthy men characterized the absorption, distribution, and excretion of daprodustat when administered as oral and intravenous (IV) doses of unlabeled and radiolabeled daprodustat ([14C]‐GSK1278863). Tolerability and pharmacokinetic properties of daprodustat, and its 6 metabolites in the systemic circulation, were also evaluated. The mean recovery of radiolabeled daprodustat was ≈95% by day 5, with the majority in feces and minor renal elimination, indicating that daprodustat and metabolites are primarily eliminated via hepatobiliary and fecal routes. Approximately 40% of total circulating radioactivity in plasma following both IV and oral administration was daprodustat; thus, 60% was attributed to metabolites. It was estimated that ≈80% of daprodustat was absorbed across the gastrointestinal tract, and ≈18% cleared by hepatic extraction. Pharmacokinetics were essentially dose proportional, with moderate (≈66%) oral tablet bioavailability. Following IV administration, daprodustat plasma clearance (19.3 L/h) and volume of distribution (14.6 L) were low, suggesting low tissue distribution outside systemic circulation with likely low penetration into tissues. Introduction: Validity of the 2014 traumatic encephalopathy syndrome (TES) criteria, proposed to diagnose chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in life, has not been assessed. Methods: A total of 336 consecutive brain donors exposed to repetitive head impacts from contact sports, military service, and/or physical violence were included. Blinded to clinical information, neuropathologists applied National Institute on Neurological Disorders and Stroke/National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering CTE criteria. Blinded to neuropathological information, clinicians interviewed informants and reviewed medical records. An expert panel adjudicated TES diagnoses. Results: A total of 309 donors were diagnosed with TES; 244 donors had CTE pathology. TES criteria demonstrated sensitivity and specificity of 0.97 and 0.21, respectively. Cognitive (odds ratio [OR] = 3.6; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.2–5.1), but not mood/behavior or motor symptoms, were significantly associated with CTE pathology. Having Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology was significantly associated with reduced TES accuracy (OR = 0.27; 95% CI: 0.12–0.59). Discussion: TES criteria provided good evidence to rule out, but limited evidence to rule in, CTE pathology. Planning for the future is important for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families. When caregivers are no longer able to provide support, individuals with I/DD may experience loss of services or benefits, residential or employment‐related disruption, or other adverse consequences. Up until now, most future planning related interventions and approaches have been focused on directly supporting families and individuals with I/DD. We present findings from a training intervention designed for professionals who work with individuals with I/DD and their families, suggesting that future planning be included in service provision and community outreach. Training participants increased their confidence in helping families plan and their likelihood to take action after participating in a 1‐day training. We discuss the implications of developing disability professionals as allies and resources to families as they engage in future planning activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To determine whether deuterated water (HDO) generated from the metabolism of [2H7]glucose is a sensitive biomarker of cerebral glycolysis and oxidative flux. Methods: A bolus of [2H7]glucose was injected through the tail vein at 1.95 g/kg into Sprague‐Dawley rats. A 2H surface coil was placed on top of the head to record 2H spectra of the brain every 1.3 minutes to measure glucose uptake and metabolism to HDO, lactate, and glutamate/glutamine. A two‐point Dixon method based on a gradient‐echo sequence was used to reconstruct deuterated glucose and water (HDO) images selectively. Results: The background HDO signal could be detected and imaged before glucose injection. The 2H NMR spectra showed arrival of [2H7]glucose and its metabolism in a time‐dependent manner. A ratio of the HDO to glutamate/glutamine resonances demonstrates a pseudo–steady state following injection, in which cerebral metabolism dominates wash‐in of HDO generated by peripheral metabolism. Brain spectroscopy reveals that HDO generation is linear with lactate and glutamate/glutamine appearance in the appropriate pseudo–steady state window. Selective imaging of HDO and glucose is easily accomplished using a gradient‐echo method. Conclusion: Metabolic imaging of HDO, as a marker of glucose, lactate, and glutamate/glutamine metabolism, has been shown here for the first time. Cerebral glucose metabolism can be assessed efficiently using a standard gradient‐echo sequence that provides superior in‐plane resolution compared with CSI‐based techniques. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
