Pectinases are commonly industrially synthesized by molds. This study aimed to optimize pectin lyase synthesis by a bacterium, Pseudomonas fluorescens, using both the one‐factor‐at‐a‐time (OFAT) method and response surface methodology. First, on optimization of pectin lyase fermentation by the OFAT method, the effects of pectin, peptone, yeast extract, (NH4)2SO4, pH, and salts were investigated. The highest pectin lyase activity was determined to be 28.63 U/mL at pH 8, 30°C, with 1% (w/v) pectin and 0.14% (w/v) (NH4)2SO4 concentration at the 90th hour. The effect of substrate inhibition on the microbial growth was also investigated, and the results showed that the process can be described by noncompetitive inhibition model. The values of kinetic constants were determined as µm = 0.175 h−1, KS = 6.931 g/L, and, KI = 6.932 g/L by nonlinear regression analysis. It was reported that pectin lyase enzymes exhibited peak activity at 50°C and pH 8. Finally, response surface methodology (RSM) was utilized to optimize pH, concentrations of ammonium sulfate, and pectin, which were chosen as independent variables. The interactions between these variables were also examined. According to RSM, the optimum values of the parameters to achieve a maximum pectin lyase activity of 35.62 U/mL were determined to be pH 7.97, 1.25% (w/v) pectin concentration, and 0.25% (w/v) (NH4)2SO4 concentration. Background Objective Method Results Conclusion Sexual position is one of the several aspects that affects ejaculation control, which is essential for sexual pleasure. Still little is known, nevertheless, about the connection between sexual positions and ejaculation duration.To investigate the impact of various sexual positions on the duration of ejaculation and gain a deeper understanding of the elements that influence the ability to control ejaculation.An online survey was carried out on a sample of 1904 heterosexual men between the ages of 18–65 years. Premature ejaculation (PE) diagnostic tool was used to define PE. Demographic, behavioral, and physiological traits that are linked to PE and non‐PE groups were collected. The participants listed their preferred sexual positions and the ones they changed to during ejaculating. Also, analyses were performed between male/female active or deep/shallow thrust positions and PE status.Although there were no appreciable variations in age or circumcision between PE and non‐PE groups, the age of first sexual experience was associated with PE status. Groups also varied in the number of weekly ejaculations, the duration of the favored ejaculations, and the characteristics of the erection. The most preferred sexual posture was the doggy style regardless of the group. When the non‐PE group felt to ejaculate, they preferred to change the position significantly more than the PE group (74% vs 67.2%; p < 0.05). However, when participants felt ejaculate, non‐PE participants tended to switch to shallow thrusting positions significantly more than PE participants, who preferred deeper positions (27.1% vs. 18%; p < 0.05).This study underlines the relevance of considering sexual positions in controlling PE. Modifying positions during sexual intercourse may offer a non‐pharmacological therapeutic alternative for improving ejaculation control. Objective: The objective of this study was to ascertain the impact of cervical cancer education provided to women in Turkey on their knowledge, attitudes, and health beliefs. Design: The study was conducted in accordance with the pretest–posttest randomized controlled trial model. Sample: The participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental or the control groups. The study was completed with a total of 105 women, 51 of whom were in the experimental group and 54 of whom were in the control group. Measurements: The personal information form, the human papillomavirus (HPV) knowledge scale, and the health belief model scale for cervical cancer and Pap smear test were employed as data collection instruments. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 package program, and the number, percentage, independent samples t‐test, and paired t‐test were utilized for data analysis. Results: Upon completion of the training program, the mean scores of the experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant increase in knowledge related to general HPV information, HPV screening tests, general HPV vaccines, and HPV vaccine programs when compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Upon conclusion of the educational intervention, it was determined that the mean scores of cervical cancer sensitivity, caring, health motivation, Pap smear utility, and motivation of women in the experimental group exhibited an increase, while their general perception of Pap smear demonstrated a decrease (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that educational initiatives targeting women regarding cervical cancer have a beneficial impact on their knowledge, attitudes, and health beliefs. Understanding the genetic structure and phylogeographic patterns of Scarturus species is crucial for accurately delineating their taxonomic status and informing conservation strategies. This study explores the genetic differentiation of Scarturus williamsi, S. aulacotis, and S. elater species complex across Turkish populations by analyzing mitochondrial (Cytb, 12S rRNA, and 16S rRNA) and nuclear (IRBP) gene sequences. Our phylogenetic analyses have firmly established the monophyly and distinct species status of S. williamsi and S. aulacotis (formerly known as S. euphraticus), challenging previous subspecies classifications. Within S. williamsi, we identified five distinct lineages from Cytb sequences, illustrating a complex population structure shaped by geographical and ecological factors. Notably, the Niğde population emerged as a unique and ancient lineage, likely influenced by historical isolation. Our findings further indicate that S. aulacotis encompasses two divergent lineages, one spanning Syrian samples and the other Turkish and Iranian samples, both now classified under the revised taxonomy of S. aulacotis. Analysis of the S. elater species complex unveiled three distinct subclades, with the Turkish population aligning closely with Iranian and Armenian samples, identified as S. indicus aralychensis within the S. indicus superspecies. Brunner syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that associated with mutations in the MAOA gene. It has been linked to a number of psychiatric disorders. We present detailed information on psychiatric evaluation of a case carrying a novel MAOA gene variant of p.(Thr408Met). The patient was referred to our clinic with a history of attention problems, motor coordination difficulties and a tendency to bite objects. Following a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with developmental coordination disorder, articulation disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). MAOA mutations are rarely reported in the literature. To date, a total of 23 MAOA gene variants, mostly missense variants, have been reported through the HGMD database (Professional 2023.4). Neurodevelopmental symptoms may vary in severity and diversity among patients with Brunner syndrome. Different degrees of intellectual disability have been found in previously reviewed cohorts of Brunner syndrome. In our affected patient, cognitive development and academic achievement were at a similar level to his peers. Additionally, our patient exhibited symptoms suggestive of developmental coordination disorder. Our findings show that genetic mutations in MAOA can lead to a wide range of clinical symptoms and underline the need for comprehensive genetic and clinical evaluations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Cohen syndrome is a rare disease associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, especially intellectual disability (ID), neutropenia and recurrent infections are consistently reported in cases. Neutropenia is an important part of the syndrome, as well as ID. Homozygous variants in the VPS13B gene, located on chromosome 8q22 and containing 62 exons, have been found to cause Cohen syndrome. Cohen syndrome is commonly diagnosed when dysmorphological findings and developmental delay become more apparent. However, the identification of some findings with increasing age has caused the diagnosis of Cohen syndrome to be delayed. Methods: Cases diagnosed with ID were evaluated using whole‐exome sequencing/clinical exome sequencing method. Family segregation analysis was performed using Sanger sequencing. We presented the clinical and genetic findings of three cases diagnosed with Cohen syndrome and their parents in detail. Results: In this study, we presented the occurrence of symptoms in different age groups, and the prognosis of three cases carrying the VPS13B gene variants, including three different variant types: missense, frameshift and nonsense. Although our cases had different variant types, they shared important similarities on the onset period and prognosis of the symptoms. All cases presented hypotonia, difficulties in swallowing, recurrent respiratory tract infections, neutropenia, delay in motor development, ID and hyperactivity. Our cases did not have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. All cases had increased willingness to engage in social communication. Conclusion: We emphasize the importance of early‐onset recurrent infections and hypotonia for early diagnosis and preventive genetic counselling in Cohen syndrome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Herpes zoster is rarely seen in children, but is more common and more severe in those with underlying medical conditions. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively evaluate cases of herpes zoster in all paediatric patients and to detail the clinical course and complications of this disease in children with and without underlying health problems in terms of similarities and differences. Methods: The course of paediatric patients diagnosed with herpes zoster in a tertiary university hospital over a 19‐year period was evaluated from the time of diagnosis, divided into groups with and without underlying disease. Results: In our study, where we evaluated 150 herpes zoster attacks in 143 children, 79.3% of the patients (n = 119) had underlying diseases, while 20.7% (n = 31) were healthy children. The age at the time of primary varicella‐zoster virus and herpes zoster was significantly younger in the group without an underlying disease compared to the group with an underlying disease. Pain was reported more in the healthy group, and the duration of symptoms was longer. Ophthalmic nerve involvement was significantly higher in the group without a known disease. Treatment was administered in 90% of all attacks. In the group with underlying diseases, the duration of intravenous treatment and hospital stay were significantly higher as expected. Conclusions: This study shows that herpes zoster attacks in healthy children can also progress with severe symptoms and complications. Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabricius), also known as the cowpea beetle or pulse beetle, is the most important pest of stored cowpea. The beetle causes both qualitative and quantitative losses in the grains, all of which result in low crop yields. The objective of this work was to investigate the insecticidal effect of rose essential oil (REO) on adult Callosobruchus maculatus in terms of mortality and oviposition. In addition, the viable mesophilic aerobic bacteria of C. maculatus were evaluated, and surface molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps were examined to determine the interaction domains of the bioactive components of REO. The interaction mechanism between the AChE enzyme (PDB ID: 6XXY, 4EY6, 4EY7 and 6O4W) and the REO components was investigated using the molecular docking method. The highest mortality of 92.40 ± 0.03% was obtained at 16 μL within 72 h of exposure. Higher concentrations of the essential oil decreased the laying performance of C. maculatus. A significant decrease of 91.33% in the number of eggs laid was observed. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS) results showed that the major constituents of Rosa damascena Miller essential oil (REO) were citronellol (46.15%), geraniol (16.19%), nonadecane (8.80%) and nerol (7.43%). Treatments of 4, 8, 12 and 16 μL of REO significantly reduced the viable mesophilic aerobic bacteria of C. maculatus samples compared with the control. It was found that the most effective binding was between the REO components and the 4EY7 protein, with binding energies ranging from −6.9 to −8.9 kcal/mol. Although the major component of REO was citronellol (46.15%), the best interaction was observed with farnesol isomer B (0.80%). The SETD1B gene, located on chromosome 12q24, is one of the chromatin‐modifying genes involved in epigenetic regulation of gene transcription. The phenotype of pathogenic variants in the SETD1B gene includes intellectual disability, seizures, and language delay (IDDSELD, OMIM 619000). In this study, we present a family consisting of consanguineous parents who died of cancer and their offspring. This family includes two cases diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD); six cases diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or schizoaffective disorder; there cases diagnosed with cancer; and five cases who died of unknown causes in early childhood. Three affected members of this family agreed to genetic testing. We used whole exome sequencing. We report a novel in‐frame deletion variant of the SETD1B gene in a family with cases diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and ASD without seizures and intellectual disability. It was found that the phenotypic features were inherited for at least three generations in the family we presented, and it was shown that the pathogenic variant of the SETD1B gene was transmitted from the affected parent to his affected children. In addition, the father was diagnosed with both schizoaffective disorder and leukemia. We proposed an association between rare variants of SETD1B and phenotypes of ASD and schizoaffective disorder without seizures and intellectual disability. The SETD1B gene is included in both the ASD genetic database of SFARI (https://gene.sfari.org/) and the cancer database of COSMIC (https://cancer.sanger.ac.uk/cosmic). However, there are very few reports of SETD1B gene variants as clinical entities. The Roman mill complex of Barbegal in France is the largest preindustrial structure in Europe. Carbonate incrustations that formed from water flowing through basins, over flumes and waterwheels of the mill complex are partly preserved. The largest carbonate fragments are derived from three wooden flumes that once served the wheels of three mills in a train of eight. The deposits formed from the same water as it moved down from mill to mill. The shape, microstratigraphy and stable isotope patterns of the deposits of each flume reveal a unique history of use for each mill during the last 8 years of operation until their final abandonment. The sidewall carbonate deposits of the flumes vary in shape due to differences in the slope of the flumes during operation, associated with different‐size millwheels in different basins. At least one of the flumes must have been mobile and was uplifted to fit a millwheel of a different size. During 8 years, two millwheels were exchanged and one flume was taken out of action. Carbonate deposits from two flumes were subsequently reused for some unknown industrial purpose in a water basin, and one was later embedded as spolia in a building during late antiquity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anticancer effects of piceatannol, a natural stilbenoid, on human neuroblastoma cells. In order to accomplish this goal, we performed various cellular assays, including the XTT cell proliferation assay for cell viability, colony formation assay for colony formation capacity, FITC Annexin V and cell death detection kit for apoptosis, matrigel invasion assay for invasion capacity, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) red dye for intracellular ROS levels, TMRM staining method for mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and the CYTO‐ID autophagy detection kit for autophagy. Furthermore, we analyzed the expression levels of genes associated with apoptosis and autophagy using RT‐qPCR. Based on our findings, piceatannol exhibited cytotoxic effects on neuroblastoma cells. Besides, treatment with piceatannol at both 50 and 100 μM concentrations for 72 h decreased colony formation, induced apoptosis and autophagy, inhibited cell invasion, decreased MMP, and increased ROS levels in SH‐SY5Y cells. In addition, we observed significant upregulation in the expression levels of CASP8, BECLIN, ATG5, ATG7, and MAPILC3A genes between the two doses. These results suggest that piceatannol enhances autophagic activity and induces caspase‐dependent apoptosis, indicating its potential as a therapeutic agent against neuroblastoma cells. In this study, piceatannol, a natural stilbenoid with anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant properties, suppressed cell proliferation, colony formation capacity and invasion in neuroblastoma cells. It also decreased the mitochondrial membrane potential while increasing the level of reactive oxygen species. Ochratoxin A (OTA), which is one of the most important mycotoxins in terms of human health, can be found in cereal products such as bread, "bazlama" (traditional flatbread), and pita bread, as well as cereals such as wheat, barley, and corn. This study aimed to determine the effect of different fermentation times, baking, and storage for various periods on the presence of OTA in sourdough bazlama. Bazlama flour was contaminated with OTA concentrations of 5 and 10 μg/kg. After two different fermentation times (1.5 and 3 h), baking at 300 ± 5°C, and storage at room temperature (25 ± 2°C) for 0, 5, and 10 days, the change in OTA levels of bazlama samples was determined by the high‐performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detector (HPLC‐FLD) method. The effect of different storage periods on the presence of OTA is insignificant. Although a general decrease in OTA level has been determined, it has been found that long‐term fermentation (at least 3 h) was more effective, especially in flours with a high concentration (10 μg/kg) of OTA contamination. It has been determined that bazlama made from contaminated flours with OTA levels of 5 and 10 μg/kg contained OTA levels exceeding 3 μg/kg when long‐term fermentation was not used. This is the maximum permitted limit set by the Turkish Food Codex and the European Commission, indicating that it is not suitable for consumption in this position. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Leg muscle cramps and compromised sleep patterns are prevalent issues experienced by individuals undergoing hemodialysis treatment. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of massage therapy on hemodialysis patients experiencing cramping, specifically focusing on the frequency and severity of cramps, as well as the quality of sleep. Methods: This research involved 36 hemodialysis patients. The intervention group received intradialytic massage targeting the lower extremities, administered three times a week for a total of six sessions over a 2‐week period. Data collection utilized a Patient Information Form, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Visual Analog Scale, and a Patient Follow‐Up Form. Findings: The study revealed a significant reduction in both the frequency and severity of cramps experienced by patients in the intervention group during hemodialysis sessions and at home, from the end of one session to the beginning of the next, compared to the control group (p < 0.05). This effect was observed over the course of six dialysis sessions. Additionally, there was a notable decrease in the mean total score of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) among participants in the intervention group, declining from 9.00 ± 3.79 prior to massage therapy to 5.94 ± 2.84 post‐massage (p < 0.001). Conversely, no significant change was observed in the control group, highlighting a notable disparity between the intervention and control groups in terms of sleep quality improvement. Discussion: The investigation revealed that employing intradialytic massage on the lower extremities led to a reduction in both the frequency and severity of cramps, while also eliciting a positive impact on the sleep quality of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Introduction: We aimed to evaluate the frequency of contrast induced nephropathy (CIN), its relationship with accepted risk factors and long‐term renal outcomes in patients who underwent coronary angiography (CAG). Methods: All patients who underwent CAG between April 2020 and April 2021 were retrospectively evaluated. CIN was defined as characteristic increase in serum creatinine after CAG. Results: CIN developed in 50 (5.4%) of 934 patients. The CIN rate was found to be statistically significantly higher in patients with diabetes, hypertension, heart failure and those using diuretics. Pre‐procedural hemoglobin, albumin and GFR were found to be independent risk factors for CIN. After discharge, the urea and creatinine values of the patients who developed CIN were significantly higher than those who did not. Conclusion: We concluded that in order to reduce the development of CIN, hemoglobin and albumin levels should be evaluated with renal functions before the procedure and they should be kept within normal limits. This paper investigates geography textbooks of the 1930s in Türkiye, contending that geographical knowledge played a pivotal role in shaping nationhood within a modernising state. This study's critical discourse analysis (CDA) of the early republican geography textbooks showcases how (1) Türkiye's spatial formation was reimagined in 1930s; (2) defining markers of Turkishness and the Turkish nation were forged through erasures and breakups of minority groups, and (3) the new national identity was “bridged” to the geography of the newly founded Republic. This paper posits that a nation's portrayal of its geography and global positioning is not merely a factual recording, but also a reflection of ideological and political choices. Such portrayals are complete social constructs, inherently influenced by power dynamics and disputes. Beneath the ostensibly impartial depictions of space and spatial relations, invisible power dynamics and assertions underlie the assignments of specific meanings to geographic areas. This study aims to investigate the ideological propaganda applied by the Soviet Union in schools in Kyrgyzstan during 1924–1925. During these years, propaganda was used in its most widespread form in Kyrgyzstan and education became an ideological weapon. I use the document analysis technique for data collection and collected data by obtaining the necessary permissions from the Kyrgyzstan State Archive. The research focuses on the activities carried out by the Soviet Union to have the Soviet ideology adopted in the old tsarist schools and newly opened schools in Kyrgyzstan after the October Revolution. In addition, this study provides primary sources that are not found in the literature on the ideological educational practices of the Soviet administration in Kyrgyz schools. The Soviet administration prioritized the ideological training of teachers and trained them to transfer the Soviet values to students. The Soviet Union implemented a single educational program prepared by Soviet ideologues in schools throughout its territory. The educational content aimed to eliminate completely the national culture and old beliefs of societies. The increased usage and misuse of antibiotics cause antimicrobial resistance, which makes it necessary to develop new antibiotic agents. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) could be a significant solution to addressing this issue. Antimicrobial temporin 1Ta and temporin 1Tb peptides, derived from frog skin secretions, exhibit notable activity against Gram (+) bacteria; on the other hand, apidaecin 1b peptide, obtained from honeybees, is effective against Gram (−) bacteria. In this study, hybrid AMPs were synthesized by merging temporin 1Ta and temporin 1Tb with apidaecin 1b to produce peptides that are active against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. Furthermore, the hybrid peptides were mixed with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer to produce bioactive nanofibers by electrospinning. The synthesized peptides and the nanofibers were tested on various Gram (+) and Gram (−) bacteria (E. coli ATCC 25922, P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853, S. aureus ATCC 29213, and E. faecalis ATCC 29212). As a result, the hybrid peptides were found to have a reasonable antibacterial effect on both bacterial groups. In addition, peptide‐containing nanofibers preserved the antibacterial activity as well. Molecular organic photocatalysts developed for use in chemical transformation reactions have gained momentum in recent years. In this study, six new triplet photosensitizers were prepared to determine their photocatalyst capabilities and chemical transformation abilities. The chemical structures of the synthesized orthogonal BODIPYs and their cyclotriphosphazene derivatives were analyzed and then their photophysical characteristics including the UV‐Vis absorption spectra, fluorescence emission spectra, fluorescence quantum yields, were investigated. The quantitative singlet oxygen formation was determined by chemical trapping using DPBF (diphenylisobenzofuran). In particular, cyclotriphosphazene derivative 12 having three BODIPY moieties showed efficient singlet oxygen production with high photostability and good molar extinction coefficient. The photo‐oxidation ratio constant of 1,5‐dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN) was calculated as 28.7×10−3 min−1 for compound 12 and at the end of 22.5 min., DHN converted to juglone with 100 % efficiency. In addition, the ability of the compounds to convert 1,3‐cyclohexadiene into peroxides in the presence of molecular oxygen and light was investigated and the conversion efficiency was determined by NMR technique. Background: This study is aimed at providing information about the timing of booster doses and antibody kinetics in healthcare workers. Methods: This research extends a prospective cohort study conducted at Dokuz Eylul University Hospital in Turkey, covering the period from March 2021 to December 2021. During this timeframe, the antibody levels of the health workers were measured at four different time points. The associations of antibody levels with gender, age, occupation, body mass index (BMI), chronic disease, and smoking were analyzed. Results: There was a significant difference between antibody levels in all four blood draws (p < 0.001). Antibody levels decreased in both those vaccinated with BNT162b2 (p < 0.001) and those vaccinated with CoronaVac (p = 0.002) until the fourth blood draw. There was a significant difference between those vaccinated with one and two doses of booster BNT162b2 before the third blood draw (p < 0.001), which continued at the fourth blood draw (p < 0.001). The antibody levels of those with an interval of 41–50 days between two vaccinations decreased significantly at the fourth blood draw (p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study provides insight into the dynamics and persistence of antibody response after additional COVID‐19 vaccine doses among healthcare workers. The longer the interval between booster doses may result in greater antibody levels being maintained over time, allowing for longer durations of protection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose/objectives: Each year, American Dental Education Association (ADEA) collects data on U.S. dental school faculty demographics, compensation, and vacant and lost positions. One of the purposes of the reports associated with this project is to provide information to U.S. dental schools on national trends on dental school faculty. This report examines the landscape of faculty workforce at U.S.‐accredited dental schools in 2021‒2022 and changes relative to the 2018‒2019 academic year. The information contained within this report includes faculty position information, new and separated faculty, open or vacant faculty positions, lost faculty positions, and faculty demographics. Methods: The report analyzes data from the 2018‒2019 ADEA Survey of Dental School Faculty (representing an estimated 91% of the full‐time and part‐time faculty) and 2021‒2022 ADEA Dental School Faculty Salary and Demographic Census (an estimated 84% of the faculty). Results: The analysis revealed that more than half of dental school faculty was in the south and northeast in 2021‒2022. Among responding schools, 85% of the faculty concentrated on teaching, research, and training in 2021‒2022, a proportion similar with 2018‒2019. One in five faculty was tenured or on tenure track, similar with 2018‒2019. More than three‐quarters of full‐time and part‐time faculty were clinical faculty in 2021‒2022. There was a 62% increase in open faculty positions between 2018‒2019 and 2021‒2022. Women accounted for four in 10 faculty members in 2021‒2022—more than 3 years before. The median age of dental school faculty declined from 56 to 54 years old between 2019 and 2022. The study utilized Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy coupled with chemometrics to investigate protein composition and structural changes in the blood serum of patients with polycythemia vera (PV). Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed distinct biochemical properties, highlighting elevated absorbance of phospholipids, amides, and lipids in PV patients compared to healthy controls. Ratios of amide I/amide II and amide I/amide III indicated alterations in protein structures. Support vector machine analysis and receiver operating characteristic curves identified amide I as a crucial predictor of PV, achieving 100% accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, while amide III showed a lower predictive value (70%). PCA analysis demonstrated effective differentiation between PV patients and controls, with key wavenumbers including amide II, amide I, and CH lipid vibrations. Background: Skin aging can be observed at various levels in the epidermis, dermis, and dermo‐epidermal junction. Reducing the cosmetic effects of skin aging in the facial region is a widespread demand due to common aesthetic concerns. Consequently, many injectable products on the market promise antiaging effects and cosmetic improvements. We aimed to evaluate the cosmetic efficacy of a high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate and amino acids mixture for the facial region using morphometric analysis. Methods: This study evaluates the morphometric effectiveness of an injectable mixture (high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate, glycine, L‐Proline, L‐leucine, L‐lysine HCL, L‐valine, and L‐alanine collagen active ingredient) on the mid‐face and jawline in women aged 30–55. We used morphological measurements and digital image data to assess changes and determine effectiveness. Various computational methods were applied simultaneously with statistical tests for validation. Results: The hydration assessment showed a significant increase on both sides of the face. A noticeable decrease was observed in gonion angle, bitragion breadth, bigonion breadth, and marionette wrinkle scale. These results suggest combining mechanical and chemical stimulation from the injection and its components (hyaluronic and amino acids) effectively enhances skin quality. Conclusions: The study indicates that the mechanical stimulation of the injection improves skin quality. The development of effective methods for the surveillance of seasonal respiratory viruses is required for the timely management of outbreaks. We aimed to survey Influenza‐A, Influenza‐B, RSV‐A, Rhinovirus and SARS‐CoV‐2 surveillance in a tertiary hospital and a campus over 5 months. The effectiveness of air screening as an early warning system for respiratory viruses was evaluated in correlation with respiratory tract panel test results. The overall viral positivity was higher on the campus than in the hospital (55.0% vs. 38.0%). Influenza A was the most prevalent pathogen in both locations. There were two influenza peaks (42nd and 49th weeks) in the hospital air, and a delayed peak was detected on campus in the 1st‐week of January. Panel tests indicated a high rate of Influenza A in late December. RSV‐A‐positivity was higher on the campus than the hospital (21.6% vs. 7.4%). Moreover, we detected two RSV‐A peaks in the campus air (48th and 51st weeks) but only one peak in the hospital and panel tests (week 49). Although rhinovirus was the most common pathogen in panel tests, rhinovirus positivity was low in air samples. The air screening for Influenza‐B and SARS‐Cov‐2 revealed comparable positivity rates with panel tests. Air screening can be integrated into surveillance programs to support infection control programs for potential epidemics of respiratory virus infections except for rhinoviruses. In this study, a solar radiation prediction model was developed using the Weibull distribution function (WDF). The main purpose of this study is to develop a new model for solar radiation (SR) estimation using the WDF and to bring this model to the literature. Although the WDF is widely used in wind energy forecasting due to its compatibility with wind speed data, it has not been used before in solar radiation forecasting model development. In this study, it is aimed to make SR estimation with the WDF for the first time. SR data for all regions where this new model was developed and its performance was examined were obtained from the General Directorate of Meteorology. In order to decide the success of these developed models, five different statistical metrics (RPE, MPE, MAPE, SSRE, and t‐stat) were discussed in the study. When the results are evaluated in general, it is seen that the new developed model has an acceptable performance. According to all test results in the region where the model was developed, it is seen that the new developed model showed the best performance with 0.0353, 0.4068, 7.1851, 0.1144, and 0.0162 values, respectively. The performance of this new developed model was observed in three different regions. When the statistical test results in these regions were examined, it was seen that the new model developed had a similar performance to the popular solar forecasting models widely used in the literature. Pathogenic variants in PRKN cause early‐onset Parkinson's disease (PD), while the role of alpha‐synuclein in PRKN‐PD remains uncertain. One study performed a blood‐based alpha‐synuclein seed amplification assay (SAA) in PRKN‐PD, not detecting seed amplification in 17 PRKN‐PD patients. By applying a methodologically different SAA focusing on neuron‐derived extracellular vesicles, we demonstrated alpha‐synuclein seed amplification in 8 of 13 PRKN‐PD patients, challenging the view of PRKN‐PD as a non‐synucleinopathy. Moreover, we performed blinded replication of the neuron‐derived extracellular vesicles‐dependent SAA in idiopathic PD patients and healthy controls. In conclusion, blood‐based neuron‐derived extracellular vesicles‐dependent SAA represents a promising biomarker to elucidate the underpinnings of (monogenic) PD. Several Nepeta species, used in traditional uses, represent sources of valuable phytochemical composition, as well as in vitro biological and in silico clinical activities. In the present study, the antioxidant and DNA protective properties of methanol: chloroform (1 : 1) extracts of six Nepeta species were evaluated by comparison with standards. In HPLC‐MS/MS analysis, the main components of the extracts were identified as rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, shikimic acid, and scutellarin. In the GC‐FID analysis, the highest components were palmitate and cis‐11‐eicosenoic acid. N. aristata has the greatest total phenol and flavonoid contents. N. baytopii, N. aristata, N. italica, N. stenantha, and N. nuda exhibited the highest antioxidant activities. The N. nuda, N. aristata, N. italica, and N. trachonitica extracts were shown to have the most potent DNA protection activity. According to the result of the GC‐FID and HPLC‐MS/MS analysis of Nepeta extracts, ADMET studies of the main components of the extracts were performed. It was evaluated that palmitic acid had BBB permeability, but oleic acid was toxic. The in vitro and in silico results confirmed that Nepeta L. extracts are potential natural products. Background: Most nurses working in intensive care units are unprepared to provide spiritual care to patients and they lack the competence and skills to provide spiritual care. Lack of moral evaluation of patients has negative effects on the patient. Spiritual care given to patients has effects on patient–nurse communication, general condition of the patient, and the quality of care. Aim: This study was conducted to find out the spiritual care experiences of nurses working in intensive care units. Study Design: A qualitative descriptive design was used. The study was carried out with 14 nurses who were working in the intensive care units of a university hospital in eastern Turkey between May and July 2022. Two forms were created by the researcher according to the purpose of the study and the population. Inductive thematic analysis was used to evaluate the data. Ethics committee approval was obtained. Results: Ten of the nurses were women. Their ages were between 25 and 47 years, their working years ranged between 2 and 28 years, and their weekly working hours ranged between 40 to 56 hours. As a result of the thematic analysis, six themes and 18 sub‐themes were determined: The themes determined are (1) Definition of spiritual care (2) Time of spiritual care, (3) Benefits of spiritual care, (4) Spiritual care practices, (5) Obstacles in providing spiritual care. Conclusions: Providing spiritual care to patients in intensive care is a very important experience for nurses. Understanding spiritual care, recognizing its importance, and including it in nursing practice have a central significance. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Spiritual care provided in nursing profession is as important as physical care, and supporting patients in intensive care is at the heart of providing the best holistic care. Atrial tachycardia (AT) is a common rhythm disorder, especially in patients with atrial structural abnormalities. Although voltage mapping can provide a general picture of structural alterations which are mainly secondary to prior ablations, surgery or pressure/volume overload, data is scarce regarding the functional characteristics of low voltage regions in the atrium to predict critical isthmus of ATs. Recently, functional substrate mapping (FSM) emerged as a potential tool to evaluate the functionality of structurally altered regions in the atrium to predict critical sites of reentry. Current evidence suggested a clear association between deceleration zones of isochronal late activation mapping (ILAM) during sinus/paced rhythm and critical isthmus of reentry in patients with left AT. Therefore, these areas seem to be potential ablation targets even not detected during AT. Furthermore, abnormal conduction detected by ILAM may also have a role to identify the potential substrate and predict atrial fibrillation outcome after pulmonary vein isolation. Despite these promising findings, the utility of such an approach needs to be evaluated in large‐scale comparative studies. In this review, we aimed to share our experience and review the current literature regarding the use of FSM during sinus/paced rhythm in the prediction of re‐entrant ATs and discuss future implications and potential use in patients with atrial low‐voltage areas. The prevalence of artificial intelligence applications using artificial neural network architectures for functions such as natural language processing, text prediction, object detection, speech, and image recognition has significantly increased in today's world. The computational functions performed by artificial neural networks in classical applications require intensive and large‐scale data movement between memory and processing units. Various software and hardware efforts are being made to perform these operations more efficiently. Despite these efforts, latency in data traffic and the substantial amount of energy consumed in data processing emerge as bottleneck disadvantages of the Von Neumann architecture. To overcome this bottleneck problem, it is necessary to develop hardware units specific to artificial intelligence applications. For this purpose, neuro‐inspired computing chips are believed to provide an effective approach by designing and integrating a set of features inspired by neurobiological systems at the hardware level to address the problems arising in artificial intelligence applications. The most notable among these approaches is memristor‐based neuromorphic computing systems. Memristors are seen as promising devices for hardware‐level improvement in terms of speed and energy because they possess non‐volatile memory and exhibit analog behavior. They enable effective storage and processing of synaptic weights, offering solutions for hardware‐level development. Taking into account these advantages of memristors, this study examines the research conducted on artificial neural networks and hardware that can directly perform deep learning functions and mimic the biological brain, which is different from classical systems in today's context. Objective: The study aims to investigate whether patients with ST‐elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)‐related periodontitis will experience any changes in asprosin levels. Background: Periodontitis is a common, chronic infection of the periodontium that is epidemiologically associated with cardiovascular disease. Although asprosin, a hormone released from adipose tissue, is a protective role in cardiovascular diseases, its effectiveness in periodontitis is unknown. Methods: The study was conducted on a total of 120 patients, divided into four groups; the group of healthy control (n = 35), the group of periodontitis (n = 35), the group of periodontitis+STEMI (n = 25), and the group of STEMI (n = 25). In each patient, age, serum asprosin, CRP, troponin‐I, and clinical periodontal parameters [plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD), and clinical attachment level (CAL)] were evaluated. The results were analyzed statistically. Results: Serum asprosin, CRP, and troponin‐I levels were statistically higher in the STEMI+periodontitis group compared to the other groups. In addition, as a result of the study, it was observed that there was a correlation between serum asprosin levels, clinical periodontal parameters, and CRP levels. Conclusions: The results of this study show that STEMI and periodontitis are associated with high asprosin levels. Since the risk of periodontitis is high in STEMI patients, periodontitis should also be considered when evaluating asprosin levels in STEMI patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Unexpected and unpredictable earthquakes may have a negative impact on people's mental health. The earthquake fear experienced by individuals causes psychological problems. This article is made up of three different studies that look at earthquake fear. The seven item Earthquake Fear Scale (EFS) was confirmed in Study I (N = 407) utilising confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, Item Response Analysis was done, and it was found that all of the items showed a good degree of discrimination. The reliability of the EFS has been proven with different reliability coefficients. In Study II (N = 505), both correlation and network analysis were carried out, and earthquake fear was found to be significantly associated with depression, anxiety, stress, and mental wellbeing. Moreover, neuroticism and conscientiousness, two of the big five personality traits, are significantly associated with earthquake fear. In Study III (N = 382), it was revealed that psychological distress and harmony in life play a serial and fully mediating role in the link between earthquake fear and mental wellbeing. The aim of this study is to determine and quantify the monomer elution from four different resin-based composite dentin replacement materials for 3 months using HPLC. Four different composite dentin replacement materials were used in the present study: EverX (EVX), X-tra base (XTB), SDR (SDR), and GrandioSO Heavy Flow (GHF). Fifteen samples from each material were prepared (5 × 5 × 4 mm). After preparation, each specimen was immersed in a 10 ml 75% ethanol/distilled water solution for three different periods: 1 h, 24 h, and 3 months (n = 5). After the immersion period, 0.5 ml of solutions were taken from each bottle and analyzed using HPLC. At the end of the 3-month immersion period, the elution of monomers was determined mostly from SDR, GHF, EVX, and XTB, respectively. TEGDMA, the most released monomer of all groups, was released from all samples after 1 h, 24 h, and 3 months. The amount of monomer released in all composite groups at the end of the 3-month immersion period was significantly higher than the monomer amounts released after the 1-hour immersion period. The monomers were eluted from the composite dentin replacement materials during all immersion periods, and the amount of eluted monomers was increased with time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

On February 6, 2023, earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 struck southern and central Turkey. The disaster caused severe damage to buildings and resulted in the loss of thousands of lives, leaving many children injured, traumatized, and without basic needs. One of the most sensitive issues was the news stories about children rescued from the rubble. These news stories were highly emotional and sensational, frequently describing the children as miracles. However, they often disregarded the reasons and negligence that caused their victimization. The journalism ethics related to the representation of children, disaster coverage, and interviewing victims are also ignored. This study uses a multimodal critical discourse analysis method to explore the discursive strategies employed in the media coverage of this topic. Three salient common themes were included in the study: "Miracles and hope", "patriarchal state", and "sensational/dramatic elements. The analysis shows that media representations of earthquake victim children in Turkey aestheticize their pain and suffering, reducing them to objects of pity or spectacle. By examining these representations critically, the study aims to raise awareness about the importance of ethical and responsible media practices in reporting on natural disasters and other humanitarian crises. In this article, we use a meta‐analysis to examine the performance of socially responsible investing (SRI). We find that, on average, SRI neither outperforms nor underperforms the market portfolio. However, in line with modern portfolio theory, we find that global SRI portfolios outperform regional subportfolios. Moreover, high‐quality publications, publications in finance journals and authors who publish more frequently on SRI are all less likely to report SRI outperformance. In particular, we find that including more factors in a capital market model reduces the likelihood that a study will find SRI outperformance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, littoral diatoms and environmental variables were sampled three times in 2017 (spring, summer, and autumn) to determine the effect of salinity (SAL) and altitude (ALT) on the littoral diatom assemblages (composition, distribution, species richness and diversity) of 12 lentic systems in the Western Mediterranean Basin. Due to the SAL and ALT differences in these systems, they were distinguished under two groups (high elevated freshwater lentic systems [HEF] and hyposaline lentic systems [HYP]). The Bray–Curtis and Canonical Correspondence (CCA) analyses based on diatom species also confirmed this separation. In HYP, SAL and alkalinity (ALK) were the most effective parameters on diatom assemblage. On the other hand, diatom assemblage was mainly affected by ALT in HEF. For the biological assessment of these systems, seven diatom indices were implemented. Although most of the indices showed higher regression with SAL and ALT, they did not give the intended result in the evaluation of HYP. Poly (p‐phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) polymer was synthesized and then modified to eliminate the processing difficulties arising from its insolubility in organic solvents. The chemical structures of the synthesized PPTA and N‐butyl PPTA (BPPTA) were confirmed by elemental analysis, x‐ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy studies. As a result of modification, an aramid derivative that is soluble in some common solvents was obtained and added into polyacrylonitrile (PAN) matrix in solution. PAN/BPPTA composite nanofiber mats (CNMs) were fabricated by electrospinning. Mechanical tests showed that tensile strength increased by 119% with 3% BPPTA content. The fabricated CNMs were combined with aramid fabrics to produce laminated hybrid armors and ballistic tests were performed following the NATO Stanag 2920 standard. This is the first report about the integration of CNMs into multilayer armor configurations and resulted in improved ballistic limit velocity (V50) with a relatively very small weight gain and emergence of new energy absorption mechanisms. Background: Advances in stem cell transplantation have resulted in improved outcomes. Methods: This is a retrospective study aimed to analyze changes in patient profile, transplantation, graft characteristics, and outcome among 241 pediatric patients who received stem cell transplantation in a single center between 1993 and 2019. Results: In the 2010–2019, compared with the 1993–2009 period, a significantly higher 5‐year overall survival (60% vs. 44%, p =.022) and an event‐free survival (53% vs. 34%, p =.025) were observed. Cumulative incidence of deaths due to relapse or progression between the 1993–2009 and 2010–2019 periods were 33% and 26% respectively (p =.66). Cumulative incidence of non‐relapse mortality was significantly higher during the 1993–2009 period compared with the 2010–2019 period for malignant diseases (57.7% vs. 28.3%, p =.007). The overall survival from acute graft‐versus‐host disease between 1993 and 2009 was 11% versus 46% between 2010 and 2019 (p =.0001). The overall survival from infection in both eras did not show any difference (p =.41). Conclusions: Development in transplantation technology has led to a decrease in non‐relapse mortality and better control of graft‐versus‐host disease. However, relapse and infection remained as major causes of death. Studies evaluating institutional trends in patients undergoing HSCT and analyzing their mortality profile, can improve the management of patients, leading to a reduction in transplant‐related problems. This study uses multitemporal InSAR images to assess different types of mass movements occurring in the Seydikemer (Muğla, SW Türkiye) district. A major highway connecting the Fethiye district and Antalya province and numerous small settlements of various sizes are found in the study area. In terms of summer tourism, they are Türkiye's most well‐known locations. Since the 1960s, at least according to official records, mass movements in this area have been known to negatively impact human life. Some areas have even been declared disaster zones for this reason. However, the movement's size, type, and susceptibility to landslides have all been studied in the last 10–15 years. With satellite images and field studies, distinctive lobate‐shaped movements were classified as inactive and active. During fieldwork, characteristic features such as rough topography and bending trees were easily observed and indicated extremely slow and large‐scale movement. In this study, it was found that movement less than 7–8 mm/year could be classified as 'extremely slow' mass movement like a 'creep', and moving up to 43 mm/year was evaluated as 'very slow' movement and 'earth slide' on a rigid surface. The examined moving masses with lobate geometry are activated by natural factors such as valley slope direction, stream bed flow direction, erosion of the toe of the river valleys, earthquakes, excessive precipitation, or human activities such as road opening. In this study, the effects of peeled oleaster flour (OF) addition (0.5% and 1%) with high‐pressure homogenization (HPH) at 100 MPa on acidification kinetics, physicochemical, functional, and rheological properties of kefir made from bovine whole milk were investigated. The fermentation kinetic parameters such as Vmax and Tf decreased by 23.63% and 20%, respectively, with 1% OF and application of HPH. The combined use of two treatments had a positive effect on Lactobacillus and Lactococcus counts, reaching a maximum of 9.63 and 9.31 log cfu/mL, respectively. Also, total phenolic contents and antioxidant activity reached maximum values of 85.31 mg GAE/g and 17.22%, respectively. The ΔE value was more limited with HPH. The maximum firmness and water‐holding capacity values were determined in the sample produced with 1% OF and application of HPH. Rheological analysis revealed that all kefirs exhibited shear thinning behavior, and the Ostwald–de‐Waele (R2 >.99) model was suitable to describe the rheological behavior of all kefir samples. The highest viscosity (0.049 Pa.s, at 50/s shear rate) and consistency index (1.115 Pa.sn) were observed in kefir with 1% OF and application of HPH. Kefir samples were characterized as weak gel behavior because storage modulus (G') was much greater than loss modulus (G") and the power‐law model was used to characterize the viscoelasticity. The overall quality assessment indicated that the improvement of the fermentation process and the enhancement of textural and functional properties of kefir samples could be achieved with the addition of 1% OF and application of HPH. Aim: The use of handheld ultrasonography devices (HHUD) has increased recently but there are limited data about their performance in the evaluation of right heart dysfunction (RHD) and pulmonary hypertension (PHT). The aim of the study is to compare the performance of a HHUD with a conventional ultrasound device (CUD) in assessing PHT and RHD. Methods: This single‐center prospective study was performed in a seven‐bed teaching hospital intensive care unit (ICU). PHT and RHD criteria were compared by HHUD and CUD. Additional PHT criteria and right ventricle (RV) systolic and diastolic dysfunction criteria were also measured. Results: Forty‐six patients were included in the study. There was no significant difference between the imaging rates and mean values of the parameters measured by both devices. When the positivity rates for additional PHT parameters and RHD criteria were compared, there were no significant differences between the devices. In Bland‐Altman's analysis, there was good agreement and there was no bias between the measurements of the two devices but left ventricular end‐systolic eccentricity index (LVSEI), right atrium area (RAA), and pulmonary artery diameter (PAD). Ninety percent of the patients had PHT probability, of whom 43% had a low, 37% had intermediate and 10% had a high probability of PHT. Ninety‐two percent of the patients had RHD and there was no significant difference between the devices in the diagnosis of RHD (p =.212). When RV systolic and diastolic dysfunction evaluations of the devices were compared according to the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) criteria there was no significant difference between the devices' measurements in the evaluation of systolic and diastolic function. Conclusion: The imaging and measurement capabilities of the HHUDs for PHT and RHD parameters were similar to CUDs, and considering the inconsistent parameters, the HHUD can be useful in diagnosing these problems. Calcium carbonate deposits from ancient water systems such as aqueducts are a hidden archive for archaeology and environmental sciences. These deposits formed wherever carbonate‐rich water was in contact with a water‐containing structure and recorded water composition, temperature, biological content, the operation or nonoperation of a water system segment, flow discharge and velocity, the shape of disappeared segments of water structures, the number of years a water supply system was active, disruptions of the water supply and water management such as repairs, adaptations and cleaning. Indirectly, urban development, resilience, population‐ and socioeconomic dynamics can be studied through the stratigraphy of carbonate in water systems. Carbonate archives can also give insight into long‐term changes in paleoclimate and on environmental pollution, deforestation, extreme floods, droughts, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Archaeological and environmental investigations of carbonate deposits can provide data with up to daily resolution over decades to centuries. Although absolute dating of carbonate from water systems is still problematic, each study on the aqueduct of an ancient city, together with its carbonate deposits, provides its own microstory in Roman life. Tomato leaf mould caused by Fulvia fulva (syn. Cladosporium fulvum, Passalora fulva) is an especially important disease of greenhouse grown tomato. In this study, F. fulva isolates were obtained from Antalya, Muğla, Mersin, Burdur, Bartın, and Zonguldak provinces of Turkey. Pathogenicity tests were carried out with 47 isolates using a differential set of tomato varieties containing Cf‐2, Cf‐4, Cf‐5, Cf‐6, Cf‐9, and Cf‐4/11 resistance genes and Cf‐0 with no resistance gene. As a result of pathogenicity tests, races 2, 2.4, 2.5, 2.9, 2.5.9, 2.4.11, and 2.4.5.9.11 were identified. The most frequent races were 2 and 2.5. In addition, mutations in the Avr2, Avr4, Avr4E, Avr5, and Avr9 genes were investigated. While mutations in Avr2 and Avr5 genes occurred within the coding region, Avr4E and Avr9 genes occurred outside the coding DNA sequence. Based on mutations in Avr genes and mating types, 14 genotypes of F. fulva were determined. This study revealed the race distribution of the F. fulva populations and mutations in the Avr genes in Turkey. It will contribute to studies on the population structure and control of the pathogen. Objective: To evaluate the symptoms of Long COVID (LC), frequency of symptoms, and possible risk factors in women diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) during pregnancy. Methods: We conducted a single‐center, cross‐sectional, retrospective study in 99 pregnant women who were polymerase chain reaction‐positive (PCR+) for COVID‐19 between March 1, 2020 and April 30, 2022. The control group consisted of 99 women who gave birth between these dates and did not have COVID‐19. We evaluated the clinical manifestations, symptom prevalence, and symptom characteristics of acute COVID‐19 and the LC in the PCR+ group as well as questioned the control group for LC symptoms. Results: Of the women in the PCR+ group, 74 (74.7%) had at least one LC symptom, and the most common symptoms were fatigue (54; 72.9%), myalgia/arthralgia (49; 66.2%), and anosmia/ageusia (31; 41.9%). The rate of LC symptoms in the control group was 14 (14.1%). The prevalence of LC symptoms was higher in severely/critically symptomatic patients (23; 100%) in the acute period of disease than in asymptomatic/mildly symptomatic (51; 67.1%) (P = 0.005). Hospitalization during acute infection (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 13.30), having one or more symptoms (aOR = 4.75), and having symptoms such as cough (aOR = 6.27) and myalgia/arthralgia (aOR = 12.93) increased the likelihood of LC. Conclusion: Many women experienced LC after suffering acute COVID‐19 in pregnancy, but LC prevalence was similar to the general population. LC correlates with severity, type, and number of symptoms of acute COVID‐19. Synopsis: In symptomatic COVID‐19 during pregnancy, cough, myalgia, severe symptoms, and increasing symptom count are risk factors for long COVID; prevalence is similar to the general population. Objective: To evaluate both short and mid‐term effects of maternal COVID‐19 on cardiac functions of fetuses and children. Methods: The present case‐control study was conducted on 36 pregnant women who had COVID‐19 infection in the second trimester of pregnancy and 30 pregnant women as healthy controls. Fetal, neonatal, and infant cardiac functions were compared between the groups. Assessment of fetal cardiac functions were performed in the last trimester of the pregnancy at least 6 weeks after the recovery of infection. The first postnatal echo was performed within the first 2 weeks and the follow‐up (second) echo was performed in the 6–8 weeks of life. Results: The demographic data were similar between groups. Interventricular septum and left ventricular posterior wall end‐diastolic dimensions were significantly higher in the study group in both fetal, neonatal, and infant periods. Impaired diastolic functions of right and left ventricles were detected and myocardial performance indexes with tissue doppler imaging of both lateral walls and septum were significantly higher than controls at all periods. Conclusion: Maternal COVID‐19 seems to have a global impact on the cardiac functions of babies in the short and mid‐term periods after maternal recovery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Rituximab (RTX) is being used for both induction and maintenance of anti‐neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) ‐associated vasculitis. However, the efficacy of RTX for the granulomatous findings of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) has not been demonstrated as clearly as its vasculitic manifestations. Case summary: A 46‐year‐old man was diagnosed in 2019 with GPA with constitutional symptoms, bilateral mastoiditis, prostatic necrosis, nodules in both lungs, pauci‐immune necrotizing glomerulonephritis and high level of PR3‐ANCA. He reached clinical remission after induction with high‐dose corticosteroids and intravenous cyclophosphamide pulses at the 3rd month. Two months following the second cycle of RTX as maintenance, he developed multiple cranial mass lesions, and excisional biopsy revealed necrotizing vasculitis with granuloma formation. Remission was achieved with long‐term high‐dose corticosteroid therapy after surgical excision. Conclusion: We observed a relapse of GPA with intracranial granulomatous lesions in a patient under RTX maintenance. Limited efficacy of RTX should be considered for mainly granulomatous manifestations in patients with GPA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
