Copper is an active electrocatalyst for various energy conversion reactions, but its performance depends on the structure of the active surface sites. In this work, we propose a simple strategy to tailor both the roughness and the active site's geometry of copper. To modify the surface of copper, we oxidize and reduce a copper polycrystalline electrode in 0.1 M solutions containing both sodium fluoride and sodium chloride with different chloride/fluoride molar ratios: (0.1‐x) M NaF+x M NaCl. To address the anion effect on the changes in surface geometry, we recorded the voltammetric fingerprints of the modified electrodes using lead underpotential deposition (UPD). The voltammetric analysis suggested that while chloride induces (n10) sites, fluoride promotes an increase in the active surface area and the growth of low‐coordinated sites with (110) or (111) geometry. Solutions containing both fluoride and chloride anions induced (n10) motifs covered by nanometric clusters, as observed by scanning electron microscopy, forming a highly defect‐rich surface. Our work provides a direct link between electrochemical response and ex‐situ structural characterization, and compares, in detail, the effect of chloride and fluoride on the surface nanostructuring of copper. Objective: To analyze the specificity of calcitonin gene–related peptide (CGRP) levels, we measured alpha‐CGRP circulating levels in a large series of patients with a recent diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who were interviewed regarding comorbid headache. Background: Several studies have found an association between migraine and IBD. Methods: In this cross‐sectional study performed in an IBD clinic, morning serum alpha‐CGRP levels were measured by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay in 96 patients who were recently diagnosed with IBD and compared to those from 50 similar patients with chronic migraine (CM) and 50 healthy controls (HC). Results: Alpha‐CGRP levels were higher in patients with IBD (median [interquartile range] 56.9 [35.6–73.9] pg/mL) and patients with CM (53.0 [36.7–73.9] pg/mL) compared to HC (37.2 [30.0–51.8] pg/mL; p = 0.003; p = 0.019, respectively). Regarding IBD diagnostic subtypes, alpha‐CGRP levels for ulcerative colitis (67.2 ± 49.3 pg/mL; 57.0 [35.6–73.4] pg/mL) and Crohn's disease (54.9 ± 27.5 pg/mL; 57.7 [29.1–76.1] pg/mL) were significantly higher than those of HC (p = 0.013, p = 0.040, respectively). Alpha‐CGRP levels were further different in patients with IBD with migraine (70.9 [51.8–88.7] pg/mL) compared to HC (p < 0.001), patients with IBD without headache (57.5 [33.3–73.8] pg/mL; p = 0.049), and patients with IBD with tension‐type headache but without migraine (41.7 [28.5–66.9] pg/mL; p = 0.004), though alpha‐CGRP levels in patients with IBD without migraine (53.7 [32.9–73.5] pg/mL) remained different over HC (p = 0.028). Conclusion: Together with CM, circulating alpha‐CGRP levels are different in patients with IBD, perhaps reflecting a chronic inflammatory state. IBD is an example of how alpha‐CGRP levels are not a totally specific migraine biomarker. However, alpha‐CGRP levels were further increased in patients with IBD who have a history of migraine, which reinforces its role as a biomarker in migraine patients, always bearing in mind their comorbidities. Mixed tin‐lead perovskite solar cells can reach band gaps as low as 1.2 eV, offering high theoretical efficiency and serving as base materials for all‐perovskite tandem solar cells. However, instability and high defect densities at the interfaces, particularly the buried surface, have limited performance improvements. In this work, we present the modification of the bottom perovskite interface with multifunctional hydroxylamine salts. These salts can effectively coordinate the different perovskite components, having critical influences in regulating the crystallization process and passivating defects of varying nature. The surface modification reduced traps at the interface and prevented the formation of excessive lead iodide, enhancing the quality of the films. The modified devices presented fill factors reaching 81 % and efficiencies of up to 23.8 %. Politicians' engagement with climate change is the focus of an emerging literature, but this research has not been subjected to systematic analysis. To address this important gap, we perform a systematic review of 141 articles on politicians and climate change published between 1985 and 2021. We find a growing research area; almost half of the articles were published after 2018. Existing research is fragmented and focused on a small number of democracies in the Global North, with the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Norway and Australia being the most‐heavily studied. Substantively, we analyze politicians' motivations, the incentives and barriers they face, and the strategies they employ to block/enable climate action. We find evidence of politicians being both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated. Intrinsic motivations often derive from formative experiences occurring prior to entering politics. Extrinsic motivations most commonly include publics/voters and external events. Importantly, intrinsic and extrinsic motivations vary in different political contexts, and indeed these two motivations may pull politicians in different directions. Politicians may employ various strategies—such as reframing—to achieve their desired policy outcomes. Moreover, politicians' motivations and strategies in relation to climate change are not static, but often vary. We conclude that there is an urgent need for research on how politicians are enabled and/or constrained by political system characteristics. Research is especially called for in the Global South and/or less democratic systems, as well as on investigating how politicians are (not) decarbonizing difficult‐to‐abate sectors and how they reconcile the sometimes‐competing demands for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Objective: To estimate the prevalence and cumulative incidence of neuro‐retinal‐disorders (NRD) in HIV‐controllers. Design: Prospective, single‐centre, cohort study of people living with HIV (PLWH): elite‐controllers, long‐term‐non‐progressors and early diagnosed. Methods: The study compared "HIV‐controllers" (including elite‐controllers and long‐term‐non‐progressors), who were not on antiretroviral therapy (ART), and "HIV‐treatment" (HIV‐infected subjects with a recent diagnosis and on ART). A matched cohort of "non‐HIV subjects" was created. NRD was defined as at least one altered (not normal) ophthalmological parameter (functional or structural). Functional (visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, chromatic vision, visual field) and structural parameters (ganglion cells, macular nerve fibre layer, peripapillary nerve fibre layers, vascular calibre) as well as quality of life (Medical Outcomes Study‐HIV Short Form‐30) were assessed. Results: Between March 2012 and November 2015, the study included all HIV‐controllers (16 elite‐controllers, 1 long‐term‐non‐progressor), 11 HIV‐treatment and 16 non‐HIV. Prevalence of NRD at baseline was 88.2% (15/17, 95% CI: 65.7%–96.7%), 90.9% (10/11, 95% CI: 62.3%–98.4%) and 56.3% (9/16, 95% CI: 33.2%–76.9%), respectively. Cumulative incidence at 3 years was 50% (1/2), 100% (1/1) and 33.3% (2/6), respectively. None of the participants manifested ocular clinical symptoms. Three years later, prevalence of NRD was 92.3% (12/13, 95% CI: 66.7%–98.6%), 75% (6/8, 95% CI: 40.9%–92.9%) and 50.0% (7/14, 95% CI: 26.8%–73.2%), respectively. Contrast sensitivity and structural parameters were globally the most affected among PLWH. Quality of life (total score) [median (interquartile range)] at baseline and 3 years was 82 (71–89) and 74 (63.5–79.25) in HIV‐controllers and 80 (73–88) and 88 (83–92) in HIV‐treatment. Conclusions: HIV‐controllers and those individuals on ART presented a higher percentage of NRD than non‐HIV. Our results suggest that NRD could be a biomarker of ocular aging among PLWH. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease and is a major health threat globally. Its prevalence is forecasted to exponentially increase during the next 30 years due to the global aging population. Currently, approved drugs are merely symptomatic, being ineffective in delaying or blocking the relentless disease advance. Intensive AD research describes this disease as a highly complex multifactorial disease. Disclosure of novel pathological pathways and their interconnections has had a major impact on medicinal chemistry drug development for AD over the last two decades. The complex network of pathological events involved in the onset of the disease has prompted the development of multitarget drugs. These chemical entities combine pharmacological activities toward two or more drug targets of interest. These multitarget‐directed ligands are proposed to modify different nodes in the pathological network aiming to delay or even stop disease progression. Aim: To investigate if tachypneic response to hypoxia is decreased in older patients. Methods: We included all patients ≥65 years of age attending 52 Spanish emergency departments (EDs) for whom peripheral arterial oxygen saturation (SatO2) measured by pulsioxymetry and respiratory rate (RR) were registered at ED arrival. We assessed the relationship between SatO2 and RR in different models, and with the best‐fitting model, we independently analyzed this relationship in four subgroups according to patient age (65–69, 70–79, 80–89, and ≥90 years). Five sensitivity analyses using different subsets of patients were carried out to check for the consistency of the results. Results: We included 7126 patients, with medians for SatO2 and RR of 97% (interquartile range [IQR]: 94–98) and 15 bpm (IQR: 15–16), respectively. We found significant associations (P < 0.001) between SatO2 and RR in every model tested (P < 0.001 for all), with the quadratic model obtaining the best fit (R2: 0.098) over those obtained with linear (R2: 0.096) and logarithmic (R2: 0.092) models. The same was observed in sensitivity analyses, with R2 for quadratic models ranging from 0.069 in patients with low comorbidity and 0.102 in patients breathing room air. The mean RR for 100% SatO2 was 15 bpm and increased as SatO2 decreased, although with a progressive slowing of the slope, with a mean RR of 27 at 50% SatO2. We detected a decreased RR response to increasing hypoxemia according to age and, while the RR curve was higher and with a progressively steepening slope in the 972 patients aged 65–69 (mean RR of 42 bpm with 50% SatO2), a progressive slowing of slope was observed in the 2693 patients aged 70–79 (mean RR of 28 with 50% SatO2), the 2582 aged 80–89 (mean RR of 25) and the 879 aged ≥90 (mean RR of 23). Sensitivity analyses provided very similar results. Conclusion: Tachypneic response to hypoxemia in older patients decreases as age advances, regardless of the reason leading to hypoxemia. In eastern Spain, Bonelli's eagle (Aquila fasciata) abundance has declined almost 50% in the last 25 years and, consequently, the species is listed as regionally endangered. Therefore, the aim of this study is to report the mortality causes of territorial breeding Bonelli's eagles, including the spatial and temporal patterns, and to assess the effects on population dynamics. From 2015–2023, we tracked 60 Bonelli's eagles via global positioning system‐global system for mobile communications (GPS‐GSM) telemetry; 33 of the eagles died (median survival time = 1,519 days). Survival did not differ in relation to sex, age at capture (subadult vs. adult birds), breeding site (coastland vs. inland territories), or transmitter's model. One‐year probability of survival (95% CI) was 0.716 (0.607–0.845); 2‐year survival was 0.640 (0.524–0.781); and 3‐year survival was 0.581 (0.464–0.729). Anthropogenic mortality (66.7% of cases) prevailed over natural (27.3%) and unknown causes (6.0%). Causes of mortality were intra‐ and interspecific predation (24.2% of cases), electrocution (18.2%), poisoning (15.1%), collision with power lines (9.1%), shooting (9.1%), drowning (9.1%), collision with other man‐made infrastructure (6.1%), and disease (3.0%). Deaths were most frequent during the early breeding season. Only 2 (6.1%) of 33 deaths recorded occurred within a protected area. Natural causes of mortality were more frequent away from the Mediterranean coast. In contrast, anthropogenic deaths were more frequent near the Mediterranean coast, where human population density is high. We estimated that probability of extirpation of the species in our study area is 17.8% in the next 50 years and 99.2% in 100 years. Nonetheless, a small reduction in adult mortality by ≥15% could prevent extirpation in the next 50 years. Therefore, actions to reduce adult mortality are urgently needed to preserve the Bonelli's eagle in eastern Spain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUMMARY: Plant long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) exhibit features such as tissue‐specific expression, spatiotemporal regulation, and stress responsiveness. Although diverse studies support the regulatory role of lncRNAs in model plants, our knowledge about lncRNAs in crops is limited. We employ a custom pipeline on a dataset of over 1000 RNA‐seq samples across nine representative species of the family Cucurbitaceae to predict 91 209 nonredundant lncRNAs. The lncRNAs were characterized according to three confidence levels and classified by their genomic context into intergenic, natural antisense, intronic, and sense‐overlapping. Compared with protein‐coding genes, lncRNAs were, on average, expressed at low levels and displayed significantly higher specificity when considering tissue, developmental stages, and stress responsiveness. The evolutionary analysis indicates higher positional conservation than sequence conservation, probably linked to the conserved modular motifs within syntenic lncRNAs. Moreover, a positive correlation between the expression of intergenic/natural antisense lncRNAs and their closest/parental gene was observed. For those intergenic, the correlation decreases with the distance to the neighboring gene, supporting that their potential cis‐regulatory effect is within a short‐range. Furthermore, the analysis of developmental studies showed that a conserved NAT‐lncRNA family is differentially expressed in a coordinated way with their cognate sense protein‐coding genes. These genes code for proteins associated with phloem development, thus providing insights about the potential involvement of some of the identified lncRNAs in a developmental process. We expect that this extensive inventory will constitute a valuable resource for further research lines focused on elucidating the regulatory mechanisms mediated by lncRNAs in cucurbits. One of the most prevalent cancers affecting women globally is breast cancer. Consequently, the development of cost‐effective and low‐risk treatment options remains a critical pursuit. This study describes the synthesis via water‐in‐oil‐in‐water (W/O/W) of a pH‐responsive nanocarrier for curcumin delivery, a promising anticancer drug. The nanocarrier comprises carboxymethyl starch (CMS), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and gamma alumina (γ‐Al2O3) nanoparticles. The molecular interactions between the nanocomposite components, its crystalline structure, surface morphology, size distribution, and surface charge were assessed via Fourier‐transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field emission‐scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM), x‐ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and zeta potential, respectively. The nanocarrier showed a size ranging from 150 to 280 nm, zeta potential of +35.4 mV, drug loading of 47% and an encapsulation efficiency of 87%, which are among the maximum values reported to date for curcumin nanocarriers. A gradual drug release was observed, with 51% and 90% released after 72 h at pH 7.4 and 5.4, respectively, which corroborates the pH‐sensitivity of the nanocarrier. The cytotoxic effects of the curcumin‐loaded nanocomposite on MCF‐7 breast cancer cells and normal cells were investigated using methylthiazolyldiphenyl‐tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and flow cytometry. The results demonstrated that loading curcumin onto the hydrogel significantly enhances its penetration into MCF‐7 cells. Background: Essential tremor (ET) is a common debilitating condition, yet current treatments often fail to provide satisfactory relief. Transcutaneous spinal cord electrical stimulation (tSCS) has emerged as a potential noninvasive neuromodulation technique capable of disrupting the oscillatory activity underlying tremors. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the potential of tSCS to disrupt tremor in a frequency‐dependent manner in a cohort of patients with ET. Methods: Eighteen patients with ET completed the study. The experiment consisted of 60‐s postural tremor recording, during tSCS at tremor frequency, at 1 Hz, at 21 Hz, no stimulation, and trapezius stimulation. Tremor frequency and amplitude were analyzed and compared across the conditions. Results: We found tremor amplitude reduction at tremor frequency stimulation significant only during the second half of the stimulation. The same stimulation resulted in the highest number of responders. tSCS at 1 Hz showed a trend toward decreased tremor amplitude in the latter half of stimulation. tSCS at 21 Hz did not produce any significant alterations in tremor, whereas trapezius stimulation exacerbated it. Notably, during tremor frequency stimulation, a subgroup of responders exhibited consistent synchronization between tremor phase and delivered stimulation, indicating tremor entrainment. Conclusions: Cervical tSCS holds promise for alleviating postural tremor in patients with ET when delivered at the subject's tremor frequency. The observed changes in tremor amplitude likely result from the modulation of spinal cord circuits by tSCS, which disrupts the oscillatory drive to muscles by affecting afferent pathways or spinal reflexes. However, the possibility of an interplay between spinal and supraspinal centers cannot be discounted. © 2024 The Author(s). Previous research has shown evidence of the existence of glass ceilings, especially for women who face several barriers to reach the most powerful corporate positions. However, even when these women have reached the board, they seem to experience resistance within this group, a second glass ceiling that prevents them from being appointed to the most influential positions of the board. Based on categorization and recategorization theories and using a sample of publicly listed Spanish firms during the period 2004–2012, we find that women directors with characteristics that should facilitate their promotion to most board leadership and major board committee positions are not reaching them, that is, are not recategorized. Moreover, we uncover that it is also hard for women to attract more women and evolve into their own majority group, as the number of women directors does not increase when women are already directors in those boards. Invasive species are one of the main threats to global biodiversity and, within marine ecosystems, tunicates feature some prominent examples. Styela plicata is an ascidian species inhabiting harbours in all temperate oceans and seas, thus being considered a thriving invasive species. However, this species' adaptive mechanisms, introduction history, and population structure have never been completely elucidated. Here, by genotyping 87 S. plicata individuals from 18 localities worldwide with 2b‐RADseq, we confirm the global presence of four chromosome inversions, demonstrate population structuring on this species, detect local adaptation signals, and infer historical demographic events. We show that North Carolina individuals constitute an unrelated population, Atlanto‐Mediterranean and Pacific localities form their own genetic clusters with substructuring, being the most evident the split between northern and southern Atlantic localities. The locality of South Carolina presents an intermediate genetic position between North Carolina and the other two groups pointing to a hybrid origin with recurrent gene flow. We generate and test demographic models, providing evidence of two independent introduction events to the Atlantic and Pacific, and an admixture that originated the population of South Carolina. Finally, we identify candidate loci for adaptation, with functions involved with cell processes, metabolism, development, and ion transport, among others. Overall, this study highlights the complex historical processes of S. plicata, which have led this species to its current distribution, population structure, and local adaptation footprint in oceans worldwide. Summary: Viroids are pathogenic noncoding RNAs that completely rely on their host molecular machinery to accomplish their life cycle. Several interactions between viroids and their host molecular machinery have been identified, including interference with epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation. Despite this, whether viroids influence changes in other epigenetic marks such as histone modifications remained unknown. Epigenetic regulation is particularly important during pathogenesis processes because it might be a key regulator of the dynamism of the defense response.Here we have analyzed the changes taking place in Cucumis sativus (cucumber) facultative and constitutive heterochromatin during hop stunt viroid (HSVd) infection using chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) of the two main heterochromatic marks: H3K9me2 and H3K27me3.We find that HSVd infection is associated with changes in both H3K27me3 and H3K9me2, with a tendency to decrease the levels of repressive epigenetic marks through infection progression. These epigenetic changes are connected to the transcriptional regulation of their expected targets, genes, and transposable elements. Indeed, several genes related to the defense response are targets of both epigenetic marks.Our results highlight another host regulatory mechanism affected by viroid infection, providing further information about the complexity of the multiple layers of interactions between pathogens/viroids and hosts/plants. Aims: Heart failure (HF) elicits a pro‐inflammatory state, which is associated with impaired clinical outcomes, but no anti‐inflammatory therapies have demonstrated a clinical benefit yet. Inflammatory pathways related with the interleukin‐1 axis are overactivated during episodes of acute HF. Colchicine, an anti‐inflammatory drug with proven benefits in acute pericarditis and ischaemic heart disease, may target this inflammatory response. This study aims to assess the efficacy of colchicine in acute HF patients. Methods: COLICA is a multicentre, randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial enrolling 278 patients across 12 sites. Patients presenting with acute HF, clinical evidence of congestion requiring ≥40 mg of intravenous furosemide and N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) >900 pg/ml, are eligible for participation. Patients are enrolled irrespective of left ventricular ejection fraction, HF type (new‐onset or not) and setting (hospital or outpatient clinic). Patients are randomized 1:1 within the first 24 h of presentation to either placebo or colchicine, with an initial loading dose of 2 mg followed by 0.5 mg every 12 h for 8 weeks (reduced dose if <70 kg, >75 years old, or glomerular filtration rate <50 ml/min/1.73 m2). The primary efficacy endpoint is the time‐averaged proportional change in NT‐proBNP concentrations from baseline to week 8. Key secondary and exploratory outcomes include symptoms, diuretic use, worsening HF episodes, related biomarkers of cardiac stress and inflammation, total and cardiovascular readmissions, mortality and safety events. Objectives: To evaluate the ability of the Assessment of Different NEoplasias in the adneXa (ADNEX) model and the International Ovarian Tumour Analysis (IOTA) two‐step strategy to predict malignancy in adnexal masses detected in an outpatient low‐risk setting, and to estimate the risk of complications in masses with benign ultrasound morphology managed using clinical and ultrasound follow‐up. Methods: This single‐center study was performed at Hospital Universitari Dexeus, Barcelona, Spain, using interim data from the ongoing prospective observational IOTA Phase‐5 (IOTA5) study. The primary aim of the IOTA5 study is to describe the cumulative incidence of complications during follow‐up of adnexal masses classified as benign on ultrasound examination. Consecutive patients with an adnexal mass detected between June 2012 and September 2016 in a private center offering screening for gynecological cancer were included and followed up until February 2020. Tumors were classified as benign or malignant based on histology (if patients underwent surgery) or the outcome of clinical and ultrasound follow‐up at 12 (range, 10–14) months. Multiple imputation was used when outcomes were uncertain. The ability of the ADNEX model without CA125 and of the IOTA two‐step strategy to distinguish benign from malignant masses was evaluated retrospectively using the prospectively collected data. We assessed performance with regard to discrimination (area under the receiver‐operating‐characteristics curve (AUC)), calibration, classification (sensitivity and specificity) and clinical utility (Net Benefit). In the group of patients with a mass judged to be benign who were selected for conservative management, we evaluated the occurrence of spontaneous resolution or any mass complication during the first 5 years of follow‐up by assessing the cumulative incidence of malignancy, torsion, cyst rupture and minor mass complications (inflammation, infection or adhesions) and the time to occurrence of an event. Results: A total of 2654 patients were recruited to the study. After application of exclusion criteria, 2039 patients with a newly detected mass were included for the model validation. Of those, 1684 (83%) masses were benign, 49 (2%) masses were malignant and, for 306 (15%) masses, the outcome was uncertain and therefore imputed. The AUC was 0.95 (95% CI, 0.89–0.98) for ADNEX without CA125 and 0.94 (95% CI, 0.88–0.97) for the two‐step strategy. Calibration performance could not be meaningfully interpreted because the small number of malignancies resulted in very wide confidence intervals. The two‐step strategy had better clinical utility than did the ADNEX model at malignancy risk thresholds < 3%. There were 1472 (72%) patients whose mass was judged to be benign based on pattern recognition by an experienced ultrasound examiner and were managed with clinical and ultrasound follow‐up. In this group, the 5‐year cumulative incidence was 66% (95% CI, 63–69%) for spontaneous resolution of the mass, 0% (95% CI, 0–0.2%) for torsion, 0.1% (95% CI, < 0.1–0.4%) for cyst rupture, 0.2% (95% CI, 0.1–0.6%) for a borderline tumor and 0.2% (95% CI, 0.1–0.6%) for invasive malignancy. Conclusions: The ADNEX model and IOTA two‐step strategy performed well to distinguish benign from malignant adnexal masses detected in a low‐risk population. Objective: The present study examined client profiles in observed emotion to explore possible subgroups among clients given that there is substantial heterogeneity in clients' expression of emotion in therapy. Subgroups were identified using the sequential model of emotional processing, which posits that global distress, shame/fear and rejecting anger represent 'early expressions of distress', whereas assertive anger, self‐compassion and grief/hurt are conceptualised to be 'adaptive states' that predict good outcomes. The present study also offers a unique strategy for studying differences in clients' emotional presentation with implications for within‐session assessment by therapists. Method: Sections of videotaped therapy sessions for 34 participants in emotion‐focussed therapy were coded for each emotional state. Through cluster analysis, participants were grouped based on the relative magnitude of each emotion state in the model. Results: In the first set of analyses, two naturalistic groups were formed: Cluster 2 had higher levels of adaptive emotion and rejecting anger than Cluster 1. There was a significantly greater proportion of good within‐session outcomes in Cluster 2 than in Cluster 1. In the second set of analyses, a separate cluster analysis categorised participants based on their early expressions of distress. Four groups were described as follows: Distressed, Protesters, Fearful & Ashamed and Minimally Distressed. Only the Minimally Distressed group showed significantly higher rates of good within‐session outcome. Discussion: These findings provide support for the emotional processing model by using novel methods and analyses. The effects of two prepared feeds were tested on growth, survival, enzymatic activity, nutritive reserves in the digestive gland and oxygen consumption of Octopus maya juveniles. For the first time, a semihumid paste (HD, control) and a dry diet, in pelleted form (PD, experimental) with the same formulation were used for this species. The experiment lasted for 42 days. Results indicate that growth rates were similar for both diets (p > 0.05); however, survival (70%) was higher with the PD compared to the HD (48%) (p < 0.05). The performance index was higher for octopuses fed the PD (p < 0.05). No differences in acid proteases activity were observed. However, a higher activity of alkaline proteases in the octopuses fed the PD was observed (p < 0.05). Ingestion rate was higher for octopuses fed the PD. Routine energy inversion was similar in both treatments (p > 0.05). A greater energy inversion was observed in octopuses fed the PD, whose active metabolism was double compared to the octopuses fed the HD. Results showed that the PD promoted similar growth compared to the HD diet but favored survival, and a greater investment in the active metabolism, reflected in the apparent heat increase. Background: In recent years, it has been demonstrated that when the endothelial glycocalyx, composed of proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans and glycoproteins, is altered or modified, this property is lost, playing a fundamental role in cardiovascular pathologies. Cardiovascular risk factors can destroy the endothelial glycocalyx layer. Exercise has a positive effect on cardiovascular risk factors, but little is known about its direct effect on the integrity of the endothelial layer. Methods: The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus databases were searched from their inception to June 30, 2022. The DerSimonian and Laird method was used to compute pooled effect size estimates and their respective 95% confidence intervals for the acute effect of exercise (within 24 h) on the endothelial glycocalyx and its components in healthy adults. Results: Ten studies were included in the meta‐analysis, with a total of 252 healthy subjects. The types of exercise included were resistance training, interval training, resistance training and maximal incremental exercise, with a duration range of 30–60 min. Glycocalyx assessment times included ranged from 0 to 90 min post‐exercise. Our findings showed that endothelial glycocalyx increases after acute effect of exercise in healthy population (.56, 95% CI:.38,.74). The acute effect of exercise on endothelial glycocalyx components were.47 (95% CIs:.27,.67) for glycosaminoglycans,.67 (95% CIs:.08, 1.26) for proteoglycans and.61 (95% CIs:.35,.86) for glycoproteins. Introduction: Letters of recommendation (LORs) are a highly influential yet subjective and often enigmatic aspect of the residency application process. This study hypothesizes that LORs do contain valuable insights into applicants and can be used to predict outcomes. This pilot study utilizes natural language processing and machine learning (ML) models using LOR text to predict interview invitations for otolaryngology residency applicants. Methods: A total of 1642 LORs from the 2022–2023 application cycle were retrospectively retrieved from a single institution. LORs were preprocessed and vectorized using three different techniques to represent the text in a way that an ML model can understand written prose: CountVectorizer (CV), Term Frequency‐Inverse Document Frequency (TF‐IDF), and Word2Vec (WV). Then, the LORs were trained and tested on five ML models: Logistic Regression (LR), Naive Bayes (NB), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Results: Of the 337 applicants, 67 were interviewed and 270 were not interviewed. In total, 1642 LORs (26.7% interviewed) were analyzed. The two best‐performing ML models in predicting interview invitations were the TF‐IDF vectorized DT and CV vectorized DT models. Conclusion: This preliminary study revealed that ML models and vectorization combinations can provide better‐than‐chance predictions for interview invitations for otolaryngology residency applicants. The high‐performing ML models were able to classify meaningful information from the LORs to predict applicant interview invitation. The potential of an automated process to help predict an applicant's likelihood of obtaining an interview invitation could be a valuable tool for training programs in the future. Purpose: Since late 2017, the use of ulipristal acetate 5 mg (UPA; Proprietary name: Esmya) has been under review in the European Union, due to an emerging hepatic risk. In February 2018 and in July 2018, the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices and the marketing authorization holder put two risk minimization measures (RMM) in place, in order to inform about new safety information and to mitigate this risk. This study aims to assess RMM effectiveness in Spain, by performing an interrupted time‐series (ITS) analyses, between 2014 and 2019. Method: Two quasi‐experimental ITS analyses to examine the use of UPA before and after the RMM release were performed: (a) an ecological study using aggregated data from a drug consumption database; and (b) a study using primary healthcare data gathered from electronic clinical records. Results: Regulatory interventions were associated with an immediate and significant decrease level of DID (the number of DDD dispensed per 100 000 inhabitants and day) and incidence. The DID was 70% less than expected 12 months after the interventions. This value was 59% for the incidence. However, a change in the slope was not observed and the use started rising again in the last segment of the study period. Conclusion: Despite RMM had an immediate strong impact on UPA use, the last segment upward trend in the long‐term might have been affected by the lack of comparable therapeutic alternatives. Background and purpose: The purpose was to perform a nationwide epidemiological study of Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) in Spain, analysing background incidences and seasonal variation and trying to identify incidence changes during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) years. Methods: This was an observational study collecting all GBS diagnoses from the National Epidemiological Surveillance Network collected by the Ministry of Health. Patients discharged with GBS as the main diagnosis and admitted during 2018–2021 were included. Data on the incidence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) infections were obtained from the National Epidemiology Centre. Results: In total, 3147 cases were included, 832 in 2018, 861 in 2019, 670 in 2020 and 784 in 2021. Nationwide hospital incidence was 1.78 in 2018, 1.71 in 2019, 1.41 in 2020 and 1.66 in 2021, with an increased frequency in males, the elderly population and in the winter season. Eleven per cent of GBS patients needed ventilatory support. GBS and SARS‐CoV‐2 incidences did not correlate with one another (r = −0.29, p = 0.36). GBS incidence decreased during 2020 and during the COVID‐19 lockdown period in comparison to the same months of 2018–2019. Conclusions: The incidence of GBS in Spain is similar to that of other countries. Despite prior reports describing a significant increase in COVID‐19‐associated GBS in Spain, a significant drop of GBS incidence during the SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic was detected, probably due to prevention measures. This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of 11 adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing evaluation for kidney transplant (KT) and examine the role played by the nurse in the process. Employing a descriptive phenomenology approach, semi‐structured interviews were conducted between October 2022 and July 2023. Thematic analysis, facilitated by Atlas. ti software, revealed a systemic management diagram with "The candidate for kidney transplant and their reality" at the center, followed by "The process of chronic kidney disease and kidney transplantation," and concluding with the most distal category centered on "The kidney transplant access nurse." This organizational framework provided insights into the layers of relationships between emerging themes. The findings underscored the complexity and multidimensionality of the CKD and KT process, emphasizing the nurse's pivotal role as a guide and protector throughout the evaluation process for accessing kidney transplantation. The convergence of results with existing literature highlighted the need to address challenges such as lack of time, resources, and emotional support to enhance the quality of care. Recognizing the nurse's crucial importance in this process, the study emphasizes the significance of addressing these challenges to improve patient care and calls for attention to the nurse's role in guiding individuals through the intricate journey of CKD and kidney transplantation. Simpson‐Golabi‐Behmel syndrome (SGBS) is a rare congenital overgrowth condition characterized by macrosomia, macroglossia, coarse facial features, and development delays. It is caused by pathogenic variants in the GPC3 gene on chromosome Xq26.2. Here, we performed a comprehensive literature review and phenotyping of known patients with molecularly confirmed SGBS and reviewed a novel cohort of 22 patients. Using these data, we characterized the tumor risk for Wilms tumor and hepatoblastoma to suggest appropriate screening for this patient population. BACKGROUND: The incorporation of functional food ingredients in chocolate that seek to eliminate, if not completely, most of the added sugar content, as well as the use of alternative chocolate production techniques, have gained popularity in recent years. This study aimed to incorporate red beetroot powder into dark chocolate and investigate the effect of red beetroot powder concentration and processing time in a melanger on the physicochemical properties, sensory profile and consumer acceptability of beetroot dark chocolate. RESULTS: The addition of red beetroot powder increased the moisture content, particle size distribution and hardness of the chocolates, while the opposite was true for processing time with no effect on the colour. Except for taste, which had an average score of 3.2 ± 1.8 on the 7‐point hedonic scale, consumers scored all the other sensory attributes of the chocolates above 4.0. Among the chocolates with red beetroot powder, samples with a 15% red beetroot powder addition had a high average overall acceptability score of >5, while the 30% sample scored <4. CONCLUSION: Red beetroot powder can be used to replace sugar in dark chocolate without affecting its physicochemical properties, sensory profile or consumer acceptability. However, the target market should be considered when determining the level of red beetroot powder incorporation in terms of chocolate taste. This research has the potential to improve the overall health‐promoting properties of dark chocolate by eliminating added sugar (partially or completely). It would also help to diversify beetroot utilization, allow small‐scale processors to venture into chocolate production and expand the small‐scale chocolate value chain. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. Non‐immune hydrops fetalis (NIHF) is a rare entity characterized by excessive accumulation of fluid within the fetal extravascular compartments and body cavities. Here we present two intrauterine fetal demises with NIHF presenting with oligohydramnios, cystic hygroma, pleural effusion, and generalized hydrops with predominance of subcutaneous edema. The fetuses also presented with ascites, severe and precocious IUGR and skeletal anomalies. Whole exome sequencing was applied in order to screen for a possible genetic cause. The results identified biallelic variants in MYBBP1A in both fetuses. A previous report described another case with a similar phenotype having compound heterozygous variants in the same gene. The protein encoded by MYBBP1A is involved in several cellular processes including the synthesis of ribosomal DNA, the response to nucleolar stress, and tumor suppression. Our functional protein analysis through immunohistochemistry indicates that MYBBP1A is a gene expressed during fetal stages. Altogether, we concluded that MYBBP1A is associated with the development of hydrops fetalis. The changes in emotions experienced during the pandemic and their effects on children's well‐being remain a significant issue. This study analyses 86 drawings created by children aged 5–13, collected in fieldwork conducted through workshops across various regions of Spain. The main objective was to describe how children portray their emotional changes and the resulting impact on their lives within the context of the pandemic. We employed qualitative bottom‐up logic to code the drawings using CAQDAS. Findings revealed a discernible emotional impact, expressed more explicitly by girls, as well as lasting elements concerning the pandemic and the enduring restrictions on social interactions, even beyond the widespread lockdowns of 2020. Objectives: Our aim was to determine the prevalence and characteristics of people with HIV on antiretroviral therapy (ART) with multidrug resistance (MDR; confirmed resistance to three or more [or resistance to two or more plus contraindication to one or more] core ART classes) and limited treatment options (LTOs) in Spain. Methods: This was an observational, retrospective, multicentre, cross‐sectional chart review study undertaken in five reference Spanish centres. Participants were people with HIV on ART with MDR and LTOs (detectable viral load [HIV‐RNA >200 copies/mL], treatment‐limiting drug–drug interaction [DDI], or intolerance precluding the use of one or more ART classes). Prevalence, demographic/clinical characteristics, and treatment options were assessed. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify MDR‐associated variables. Results: Of 14 955 screened people with HIV, 69 (0.46%) presented with MDR and 23 (0.15%) had LTOs. The population analysed was 73.9% male with a median age of 54.0 years; the median time since HIV diagnosis was 26.5 years, and median CD4+ cell count was 511.0 cells/μL. The only factor significantly associated with MDR (univariate analysis) was CD4+ cell count. Injection drug use was the most common transmission route. Comorbidities (mainly endocrine and cardiovascular disorders; 34.8% affecting HIV management) and concomitant treatments were frequent. No recent opportunistic infections were reported. Patients had been exposed to the following ART: nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (100%), protease inhibitors (95.6%), non‐nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (87.0%), and integrase strand transfer inhibitors (82.6%). The available fully active drugs were dolutegravir (39.1%), bictegravir (30.4%), and raltegravir (21.7%). Conclusions: The prevalence of people with HIV with MDR and LTOs in Spain is very low, with approximately half of those studied not exhibiting virological suppression. Low CD4+ cell counts were associated with MDR. These findings may help address the impact and treatment needs of these patients and prevent clinical progression and transmission of MDR HIV. This paper presents the development and implementation of a multiple unmanned aerial vehicle system focused on coverage path planning on multiple separated areas capable of re‐planning the collective mission in case of unexpected events. For this purpose, we present a distributed‐centralized architecture that uses heuristic and computationally efficient methods to perform the planning/re‐planning and decision‐making tasks during the control of the mission execution. We performed a computational evaluation of the algorithms, comparing them with other proposals, together with experiments in simulated and real flights. The results show that the system can distribute tasks equitably among the aircraft in an efficient way, even in the middle of the flight, when facing unexpected events; and show a higher computational efficiency when compared to multiple proposals in the state of the art. Nanovaccines have been designed to overcome the limitations associated with conventional vaccines. Effective delivery methods such as engineered carriers or smart nanoparticles (NPs) are critical requisites for inducing self‐tolerance and optimizing vaccine immunogenicity with minimum side effects. NPs can be used as adjuvants, immunogens, or nanocarriers to develop nanovaccines for efficient antigen delivery. Multiloaded nanovaccines carrying multiple tumor antigens along with immunostimulants can effectively increase immunity against tumor cells. They can be biologically engineered to boost interactions with dendritic cells and to allow a gradual and constant antigen release. Modifying NPs surface properties, using high‐density lipoprotein‐mimicking nanodiscs, and developing nano‐based artificial antigen‐presenting cells such as dendritic cell‐derived‐exosomes are amongst the new developed technologies to enhance antigen‐presentation and immune reactions against tumor cells. The present review provides an overview on the different perspectives, improvements, and barriers of successful clinical application of current cancer therapeutic and vaccination options. The immunomodulatory effects of different types of nanovaccines and the nanoparticles incorporated into their structure are described. The advantages of using nanovaccines to prevent and treat common illnesses such as AIDS, malaria, cancer and tuberculosis are discussed. Further, potential paths to develop optimal cancer vaccines are described. Given the immunosuppressive characteristics of both cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment, applying immunomodulators and immune checkpoint inhibitors in combination with other conventional anticancer therapies are necessary to boost the effectiveness of the immune response. Objective: The study evaluated the anatomical and functional outcomes, as well as the safety data of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (LSC) for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) using a lightweight macroporous mesh. Methods: A multicentric observational study was developed including five expert centers between March 2011 and December 2019. Inclusion criteria were female patients with symptomatic ≥stage II POP (POP‐Q classification), who underwent a LSC. A lightweight and macroporous mesh device (Surelift Uplift) was used. Baseline anatomical positions were evaluated using POP‐Q stage. The anatomical outcomes and procedural complications were assessed during the postoperative period. Primary outcomes were anatomical success, defined as POP‐Q stage ≤I, and subjective success, defined as no bothersome bulge symptoms, and no repeat surgery or pessary use for recurrent prolapse. Results: A total of 325 LSCs were analyzed with a median patient age of 66 (interquartile range [IQR] 61–73). After a median follow‐up of 68 months (IQR 46.5–89), anatomical success was found in 88.9%, whereas subjective success was seen in 98.5% of the patients. Recurrent prolapse presented as cystocele (1.5%). Reported complications were bladder (4.6%) or rectum lesions (0.6%), de novo urinary incontinence (12.9%), and mesh extrusion (1.2%). Conclusions: LSC provides significant clinical improvement and excellent anatomical results, with a low risk of serious complications for women with ≥2 grade POP in a real clinical practice setting. Ephemeral streams in dry environments can convey high intensity sediment‐laden flash floods. The study of these events is quite difficult due to remote locations with limited accessibility, unexpected events, rough weather conditions and safety concerns. Hence combined data of rainfall and flood hydrograph is rather scarce in the world, and null in Patagonia‐South America. The Experimental Basin Arroyo Sagmata (total drained area of 129 km2), located in the Lower Valley of the Chubut River has been equipped with 4 rain gauges, and 4 time‐lapse cameras in four reaches of the arroyos. Data from a 4‐year monitoring provides valuable insights about the hydrological response of basins in the drylands of Patagonia, such as the time of response, the shape of hydrographs and its relation with the hyetographs. Four hydrograph styles have been observed: single‐peak (S), multi‐peaks (M), flat‐top (F) and compound (C) peaks. Rainfall styles have also been classified into single, multiple and compound. Soil processes operate reducing the number of peaks (M‐type hyetographs are transformed into S‐ or M‐type hydrographs). The rain structure is also important, especially when the high intensity occurs in the beginning of the event. Channel connectivity pattern and disconnections explain the observation of M‐type hydrograph and F‐type hydrograph, respectively. Although the clinical symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD) tend to remit over time, a substantial proportion continues to present "long‐lasting symptoms" (LLS). This term refers to individuals who present some degree of clinical improvement, but low mood, feelings of emptiness, and poor psychosocial adjustment typically persist. The aim of this study was to compare the sociodemographic, clinical, and therapeutic variables in individuals with BPD with and without LLS. A total of 620 participants with BPD were included and subdivided into two groups: non‐LLS group (n = 549, mean age = 28.02 [6.1] and range, 18–40 years) and LLS group (n = 71, mean age = 44.69 [3.6] and range, 41–56 years). The groups were compared in sociodemographic, clinical, and drug treatment characteristics. We also evaluated the impact of dialectical behavioral therapy‐skills training (DBT‐ST) on polypharmacy. The prevalence of individuals with long‐lasting BPD symptoms increased significantly over a 20‐year period (from <1% to 16%). The LLS group was characterized by less clinical severity, higher comorbidity with affective disorders but lower comorbidity with eating disorders, more disability, and more medication taking. Patients with LLS who received DBT‐ST experienced a significant decrease in the use of benzodiazepines and the number of medications prescribed compared with those who did not receive DBT‐ST. MECP2 duplication syndrome (MDS) is an X‐linked neurodevelopmental disorder caused by the gain of dose of at least the genes MECP2 and IRAK1 and is characterised by intellectual disability (ID), developmental delay, hypotonia, epilepsy and recurrent infections. It mainly affects males, and females can be affected or asymptomatic carriers. Rett syndrome (RTT) is mainly triggered by loss of function mutations in MECP2 and is a well described syndrome that presents ID, epilepsy, lack of purposeful hand use and impaired speech, among others. As a result of implementing omics technology, altered biological pathways in human RTT samples have been reported, but such molecular characterisation has not been performed in patients with MDS. We gathered human skin fibroblasts from 17 patients with MDS, 10 MECP2 duplication carrier mothers and 21 patients with RTT, and performed multi‐omics (RNAseq and proteomics) analysis. Here, we provide a thorough description and compare the shared and specific dysregulated biological processes between the cohorts. We also highlight the genes TMOD2, SRGAP1, COPS2, CNPY2, IGF2BP1, MOB2, VASP, FZD7, ECSIT and KIF3B as biomarker and therapeutic target candidates due to their implication in neuronal functions.
