Clinical pharmacy has a rich history of advancing practice through innovation. These innovations helped to mold clinical pharmacy into a patient-centered discipline recognized for its contributions to improving medication therapy outcomes. However, innovations in clinical pharmacy practice have now waned. In our view, the growth of academic-practice partnerships could reverse this trend and stimulate innovation among the next generation of pioneering clinical pharmacists. Although collaboration facilitates innovation, academic institutions and health care systems/organizations are not taking full advantage of this opportunity. The academic-practice partnership can be optimized by making both partners accountable for the desired outcomes of their collaboration, fostering symbiotic relationships that promote value-added clinical pharmacy services and emphasizing continuous quality improvement in the delivery of these services. Optimizing academic-practice collaboration on a broader scale requires both partners to adopt a culture that provides for dedicated time to pursue innovation, establishes mechanisms to incubate ideas, recognizes where motivation and vision align, and supports the purpose of the partnership. With appropriate leadership and support, a shift in current professional education and training practices, and a commitment to cultivate future innovators, the academic-practice partnership can develop new and innovative practice advancements that will improve patient outcomes. Introduction: Community-based participatory research (CBPR) adds community perspectives to research and aids translational research aims. There is a need for increased capacity in CBPR but few models exist for how to support the development of community/university partnerships. Objective: Evaluate an approach to promote nascent CBPR partnerships. Methods: Design was a mixed-methods evaluation using interviews, process notes, and open- and close-ended survey questions. We trained 10 community scholars, matched them with prepared researchers to form seven partnerships, and supported their developing partnerships. Sequential mixed-methods analysis assessed research and partnership processes and identified integrated themes. Results: Four of seven partnerships were funded within 15 months; all self-reported their partnerships as successful. Themes were: (1) motivators contributed to partnership development and resiliency; (2) partners took on responsibilities that used individuals' strengths; (3) partners grappled with communication, decision making, and power dynamics; and (4) community-university infrastructure was essential to partnership development. Conclusions: This program for developing nascent partnerships between academicians and community members may guide others in increasing capacity for CBPR. The article reports on the partnerships between school district and university through the Advanced Reading Development Demonstration (ARDDP) Project of the Chicago Community Trust for improving literacy in urban schools in Illinoi. Four universities carry out different approaches with the same goal of building and improving student literacy achievement. The ARDDP accepted the challenge of creating new partnership model while each university proposed a plan and implement it in partnership with different volunteered schools. Accordingly, plan varies in different ways with the same focus on assessing instructional decision making and planning which provides guidance on continued basis.

This article focuses on the impact a collaborative project between university graduate fellows and K-12 classroom teachers had on improved pedagogy in the classroom and in the future at the university. Nine teams participated in a yearlong professional development project to improve pedagogy and communication skills of the participants. This study shows that the participants, the fellows and the K-12 teacher partners, made changes in planning, implementation, and even motivation for using inquiry-based methods in their classroom. External observations of the teams further support the individuals' claims of improved pedagogy using inquiry and impact on student conceptual understanding. The Horizon Classroom Observation instrument was used for these observations. The teams showed an overall increase in scores, as well as overall effective and exemplarily implementation of their planning. This article examines partnerships between universities and schools that focus on the generation of educational knowledge through practitioner research and enquiry. It draws on a seven-year study of a partnership between the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge and a group of eight secondary schools. The article explores what has been learned about such partnerships, including the benefits and challenges arising from some fundamental differences between the nature of schools and universities as organizations and the roles and perspectives of teachers and academics within them. It considers different understandings of the notion of knowledge generation, including which forms of knowledge are valued and found to be useful. Conditions, structures and organizational arrangements that are necessary to support such research within school-university partnerships are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, I explore what academics may offer community groups and practitioners by suggesting that scholars serve as catalysts that make community projects possible. One goal is to propose the catalyst model as a way of refocusing the action research paradigm. Action research is an established paradigm for scholars who wish to combine their research agenda with a desire to partner with community leaders on change projects. Discussions of action research tend to focus on the value of the approach for academics and methodological strategies that allow them to produce research their university colleagues consider legitimate. In the catalyst approach, we explore what university people provide in pragmatic terms that allows community movements and projects to move ahead. I deemphasize expert knowledge and focus instead on institutional resources. Scholars provide a gateway to a rich resource environment. The organization of professional work also allows scholars to give continuity to projects and to provide a framework that allows projects that otherwise might stall to move toward completion. The catalyst model eliminates the notion that scholars and practitioners belong to fundamentally different intellectual cultures and thereby removes one of the perceived barriers to effective action research. Urban schools across the United States face a pervasive problem in their science and mathematics programs - a disproportionate number of the teachers in these classrooms are not certified, thus making them underqualified to teach these subject areas. Furthermore, urban schools deal with teacher shortages and attrition in these critical areas. The situation was found to be particularly severe in the Detroit Public School District. In response, Wayne State University and Detroit Public Schools embarked on a school-university partnership program to prepare teachers in science and mathematics through an alternative pathway to teacher certification program. This partnership program has proven to be successful in recruiting, preparing, and retaining a significant number of qualified minority science and mathematics teachers to serve the students in Detroit schools. Increasing numbers of non-native species threaten the values of wildland ecosystems. As a result, interest in and research on invasive plant species in wildland settings has accelerated. Nonetheless, the ecological and economic impacts of non-native species continue to grow, raising the question of how to best apply science to the regulation and management of invasive plants. A major constraint to controlling the flow of potentially undesirable plant species is the lack of a strong regulatory framework concurrent with increases in trade volume. To address this, ecologists have been developing models to predict which species will be harmful to wildland values and are working with the horticultural industry to apply this information to the sale of species. The management of established invasive plants is hampered by conflicting goals, a lack of information on management outcomes, and a lack of funding. Ecologists and weed scientists can provide a scientific basis for prioritizing species for control and for managing species composition through the application of control technology, which can take place simultaneously with the manipulation of the ecological processes that influence community susceptibility to invasion. A stronger scientific basis for land management decisions is needed and can be met through nationally funded partnerships between university and agency scientists and land managers. This study examined the relation between self–esteem and responses to a romantic partner’s moods. College students in dating relationships imagined one scenario in which their romantic partners were in a positive mood and one in which their partners were in a negative mood. A probable source of each mood was suggested to half the participants. Participants reported their cognitive, affective, behavioral, and attributional responses to each scenario. When the partner’s mood was negative and ambiguous in cause, participants with low self–esteem felt more responsible for the mood, more rejected, and more hostile than did those with high self–esteem. A mediational analysis suggested a dependency regulation explanation of the results, such that low self–esteem people perceived self–directed negativity in their partners’ bad moods and in turn responded with more negativity toward their partners. Continual development in the field of Knowledge Management (KM) has led to a number of critical factors being highlighted in the literature. These issues include the macro-environment, organizational climate, technological, informational, cultural and people factors. Understanding of these issues is currently limited by a paucity of systematic empirical research addressing the relationship between the cultural and technological aspects of Knowledge Management. This paper describes the development of a conceptual model for Knowledge Management implementation, which is based on a university/industry partnership and a successful PhD study. Moreover, the paper covers theory-testing and refinement of the model using large survey empirical analysis. It is concluded that the model can be used across a wide spectrum of organizations to show how cultural and technological aspects of Knowledge Management can be systematically integrated into organizations. Based upon responses to questionnaries by 162 university married-housing couples (324 persons), equity theory was used to explain the relations between affective self-disclosure and marital adjustment. Specifically, it was found that the greater the discrepancy in partners' affective self-disclosure, the less was an individual's marital adjustment. This finding held for individuals who indicated receiving either more or less disclosure than they gave. in addition, individuals who indicated high levels of marital adjustment were more likely than those who indicated low levels of marital adjustment to distort selectively their perceptions of disclosure received, in an apparent attempt to eliminate distress from their relationships.
