The Antarctic marginal ice zone, the regularly wave‐affected outer band of the sea ice covered Southern Ocean, typically contains an unconsolidated ice cover comprised of smaller, thinner floes than the inner ice pack. Thus, it is a highly dynamic region and susceptible to rapid expansion and contraction, making it a focal area for understanding and predicting the response of Antarctic sea ice to a changing climate. This novel study uses unsupervised statistical clustering of sea ice data simulated by a global sea ice model (standalone CICE6 combined with a wave propagation module and prescribed ocean) to address the outstanding challenge of separating the marginal ice zone from the inner ice pack in sea ice data sets. The method identifies a marginal ice zone with the desired characteristics and floe size is shown to be the key variable in the classification. Simulated marginal ice zone widths are similar to those derived from satellite observations of wave penetration distances, but contrast with those using the standard 15%–80% areal sea ice concentration proxy, particularly during austral winter. The simulated marginal ice zone is found to undergo a seasonal transition due to new ice formation in winter, increased drift in spring, and increased rates of wave‐induced breakup and melting in summer. The understanding gained from the study motivates incorporation of wave and floe‐scale processes in sea ice models, and the methods are available for application to outputs from high‐resolution and coupled sea ice–ocean–wave models for more detailed studies of the marginal ice zone (in both hemispheres). Our findings reveal a marginal ice zone composed of young, small floes during winter and older, fractured floes during summer. Simulated widths are consistent with wave‐penetration distance observations and provide evidence of the marginal ice zone's unique properties, including high melt rates. The proposed approach may provide the basis for future studies on its contribution to Antarctic sea ice variability. In some areas of Antarctica, blue‐colored bare ice is exposed at the surface. These blue ice areas (BIAs) can trap meteorites or old ice and are vital for understanding the climatic history. By combining multi‐sensor remote sensing data (MODIS, RADARSAT‐2, and TanDEM‐X) in a deep learning framework, we map blue ice across the continent at 200‐m resolution. We use a novel methodology for image segmentation with "noisy" labels to learn an underlying "clean" pattern with a neural network. In total, BIAs cover ca. 140,000 km2 (∼1%) of Antarctica, of which nearly 50% located within 20 km of the grounding line. There, the low albedo of blue ice enhances melt‐water production and its mapping is crucial for mass balance studies that determine the stability of the ice sheet. Moreover, the map provides input for fieldwork missions and can act as constraint for other geophysical mapping efforts. We quantify that the new map scores better on various performance metrics compared to the current most‐used blue ice map. Moreover, for the first time, we estimate uncertainties of the detection of blue ice. The map indicates that ca. 1% of the surface of Antarctica exposes blue ice and will be important for fieldwork missions and understanding surface processes leading to melt and potential sea level rise. The freezing point of water is negatively dependent on pressure; therefore in any ocean without external forcing it is warmest at the surface and grows colder with depth. Below floating ice on Earth (e.g., ice shelves or sea ice), this pressure dependence combines with gradients in the ice draft to drive an ice redistribution process termed the "ice pump": submerged ice melts, upwells, and then refreezes at shallower depths. Ice pumping is an exchange process between the ocean and overhead ice that results in unique ice compositions and textures and influences the distribution of sub‐ice habitats on Earth. Here, we scale recent observations from Earth's ice shelves to planetary conditions and find that ice pumping is expected for a wide range of possible sub‐ice shell pressures and salinity at other ocean worlds such as Europa and Enceladus. We show how ice pumping would affect hypothetical basal ice shell topography and ice thickness under varying ocean conditions and demonstrate how remote sensing of the ice shell draft can be used to estimate temperature gradients in the upper ocean ahead of in situ exploration. For example, the approximately 22 km gradient observed in Enceladus' ice shell draft between the south pole and the equator suggests a temperature differential of 0.18 K at the base of the ice shell. These concepts can extend the interpretation of observations from upcoming ocean world missions, and link ice shell topography to ice‐ocean material exchange processes that may prove important to overall ocean world habitability. Adélie‐George V Land in East Antarctica, encompassing the vast Wilkes Subglacial Basin, has a configuration that could be prone to ice sheet instability: the basin's retrograde bed slope could make its marine terminating glaciers vulnerable to warm seawater intrusion and irreversible retreat under predicted climate forcing. However, future projections are uncertain, due in part to limited subglacial observations near the grounding zone. Here, we develop a novel statistical approach to characterize subglacial conditions from radar sounding observations. Our method reveals intermixed frozen and thawed bed within 100 km of the grounding‐zone near the Wilkes Subglacial Basin outflow, and enables comparisons to ice sheet model‐inferred thermal states. The signs of intermixed or near thawed conditions raises the possibility that changes in basal thermal state could impact the stability of Adélie‐George V Land, adding to the region's potentially vulnerable topographic configuration and sensitivity to ocean forcing driven grounding line retreat. We find that areas near the outflow of the Wilkes Subglacial Basin, critical in maintaining the stability of the region, might consist of mixed frozen‐bed and thawed‐bed or near‐thawed conditions on the scale of tens of kilometers across. This finding is important since the extent of basal thaw affects how easily ice can flow or slide over the bed. If parts of the bed are close to thawed, this could make Adélie‐George V Land more sensitive to climate forcing, possibly resulting in mass loss. Satellite radar interferometry data reveals that the grounding line of Petermann Glacier, Greenland migrates by several kilometers during the tidal cycle, bringing pressurized, subsurface, warm ocean waters in regular contact with a large sector of grounded ice. We use the Massachusetts Institute of Technology general circulation model in two dimensions to calculate the ice melt rates as a function of grounding zone (GZ) length and ocean Thermal Forcing (TF). Ice melt rates are found to be higher in the GZ cavity than anywhere else in the ice shelf cavity. The melt rates increase sub‐linearly with the length of the GZ and ocean TF. The model results agree well with remote sensing estimates of ice melt. High basal ice melt rates in tidally flushed grounding zones imply that marine‐terminating glaciers are more sensitive to ocean TF than anticipated, which will increase their projected contribution to sea level rise. Plain Language Summary: The traditional view of ice melting in contact with ocean waters is that melt rates drop to zero at the grounding line, which is a semi‐fixed boundary at the junction between grounded ice and the ocean. Antarctic ice shelves are losing mass at increasing rates, yet the ice‐ocean interactions that cause significant ice loss are not well understood. A new approach of high‐resolution phase‐change simulations is used to model vertical ice melting into a stratified ocean. The ocean dynamics show complicated interplay between a turbulent buoyant meltwater plume and double‐diffusive layers, while the ice actively melts and changes topography. At room temperatures, the double‐diffusive layer thickness is closely linked to ice scalloping. At lower, more realistic ocean temperatures, the meltwater plume becomes prominent with a laminar‐to‐turbulent transition imprinting an indent on the melting ice. The double‐diffusive layer thickness is consistent with scaling prediction, while the real‐world application demonstrates reasonably good matching of the scaling prediction for some Antarctic regions. Our study is a key first step toward the future use of high‐resolution phase‐change fluid dynamics simulations to better understand Antarctic ice shelves in a changing climate. We see interesting ocean dynamics known as "double‐diffusive layers" that occur because temperature and salinity both affect the water density. In addition, we also see a buoyant meltwater plume evolve next to the ice face. Both the double‐diffusive layers and meltwater plume can influence the ice melting and shape. Our results are a first step in using these new phase‐change simulations to model ice‐ocean interactions, and will help to better understand the Antarctic response to a changing climate. The seafloor depths under the Cook Ice Shelf and Ninnis Glacier Tongue have not been directly measured, despite their importance for understanding ocean circulation and ice shelf change. We model the bathymetry underneath the floating ice and surrounding ocean using airborne gravity data. Our model is constrained by few ship‐based seafloor measurements near the ice front and by ice‐base measurements over areas of grounded ice from radar data. Localized basins (∼1,400 m deep) are found beneath both ice shelves. The shallowest modeled bathymetry (∼200 m) represents the offshore extension of Cape Freshfield. Near the grounding line, seafloor depths are found to be deeper than the observed depth of the modified Circumpolar Deep water in the region (<350 m), key factor for basal melt analyses. From transit flight gravity anomalies, we suggest the relocation of the mapped edge of the continental shelf and a narrowing of the Cook Shelf Depression. We present a 700 km airborne electromagnetic survey of late‐spring fast ice and sub‐ice platelet layer (SIPL) thickness distributions from McMurdo Sound to Cape Adare, providing a first‐time inventory of fast ice thickness close to its annual maximum. The overall mode of the consolidated ice (including snow) thickness was 1.9 m, less than its mean of 2.6 ± 1.0 m. Our survey was partitioned into level and rough ice, and SIPL thickness was estimated under level ice. Although level ice, with a mode of 2.0 m and mean of 2.0 ± 0.6 m, was prevalent, rough ice occupied 41% of the transect by length, 50% by volume, and had a mode of 3.3 m and mean of 3.2 ± 1.2 m. The thickest 10% of rough ice was almost 6 m on average, inclusive of a 2 km segment thicker than 8 m in Moubray Bay. The thickest ice occurred predominantly along the northwestern Ross Sea, due to compaction against the coast. The adjacent pack ice was thinner (by ∼1 m) than the first‐year fast ice. In Silverfish Bay, offshore Hells Gate Ice Shelf, New Harbor, and Granite Harbor, the SIPL transect volume was a significant fraction (0.30) of the consolidated ice volume. The thickest 10% of SIPLs averaged nearly 3 m thick, and near Hells Gate Ice Shelf the SIPL was almost 10 m thick, implying vigorous heat loss to the ocean (∼90 W m−2). We conclude that polynya‐induced ice deformation and interaction with continental ice influence fast ice thickness in the western Ross Sea. Plain Language Summary: Sea ice held stationary by the coast is named fast ice. Around Antarctica, it is often observed near floating land ice and grounded icebergs. Fast ice is a critical habitat for marine life and known to be a sensitive indicator to changing weather and oceanic processes. Despite its importance, satellite measurements of its area are recent, and little is known about its thickness. Using a specialized instrument on a fixed wing aircraft, we measured the 2017 November fast ice thickness in the western Ross Sea. Most of the fast ice surveyed was 2 m thick on average and had formed in sheltered embayments. Where floating glaciers are in contact with fast ice, a 3–10 m thick layer of loose ice crystals was sometimes observed beneath, which contributed to its thickness. However, most of the thicker ice was rough ice, formed when ferocious offshore winds pushed ice from the coast. It then drifted with the prevailing ocean currents until eventually becoming frozen in place against coastal topography. This rough ice, 3.3 m thick on average and comprising half the surveyed volume, was significantly thicker than adjacent freely moving pack ice. Our survey provides a baseline from which future change can be measured. Gravity‐driven flow of large ice masses such as the Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) depends on both the geometry and the mass density of the ice sheet. The vertical density profile can be approximated as pure ice overlain by a firn layer of varying thickness, and for the AIS the firn thickness is not uncommonly 10%–20% of the total thickness, leading to not insignificant variation in horizontal density. Nevertheless, in most vertically integrated ice‐flow models today, the density is assumed constant, sometimes with an adjustment in thickness to compensate. In this study, we explore the treatment of horizontal density variations (HDVs) within vertically integrated ice‐sheet models. We assess the relative merits and shortcomings of previously proposed approaches and provide new formulations for including HDVs. We use perturbation analysis to derive analytical solutions that describe the impact of density variations on ice flow for both grounded ice and floating ice shelves, which reveal significant qualitative differences between each of the proposed density formulations. We recommend always including the horizontal gradient of the density in the body‐force term of the momentum equation, and in the mass‐conservationequation. Furthermore, by modeling the transient evolution of a large sector of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS), we find that doing so leads to about a 10% correction in the estimated change in volume above flotation over 40 years. We conclude that including HDVs in flow modeling of the AIS is important for accurate predictions of mass loss. The question we wish to answer in this study is how significant this impact is and how best to model the density variations within large‐scale numerical simulations. Variations in the average ice‐sheet density come from layers of compactified snow which have a lower density than the underlying ice. Within the AIS this compactified snow layer is approximately 10%–20% of the total thickness, which leads to not insignificant variation in the average density. Nevertheless, in most numerical models that simulate the flow of large ice sheets, these variations are either ignored completely or approximated by an adjustment in the total ice‐thickness. In all large‐scale numerical models, there is a trade‐off between computational complexity and an accurate depiction of the physical processes. We propose several formulations for including density variations and study the theoretical behavior of ice flows in each formulation. We find that numerical simulations of the Western AIS over 40 years suggest that explicitly including density variations could potentially lead to a 10% correction in estimated sea level rise. Impacts into icy bodies often generate near‐surface melt chambers and thermal perturbations that soften the ice. We explore the post‐impact evolution of non‐penetrating impacts into Europa's ice shell. Simulations of viscous ice deformation show that dense impact melts founder before refreezing. If the transient cavity depth exceeds half the ice shell thickness, over 40% of the impact melt drains into the underlying ocean. Drainage of impact melts from the near‐surface to the ocean occurs on timescales of 103–104 years. The drainage of melts to the ocean occurs for all plausible ice shell thicknesses and ice viscosities, suggesting that melt foundering is a natural consequence of impacts on icy worlds. Post‐impact viscous deformation is an important process on icy worlds that affects cryovolcanism, likely modifies crater morphology, creates porous columns through the ice for surface‐to‐ocean exchange, and may supply the oxidants required for habitability to subsurface oceans. Here, we find that many of the impacts into Europa's ice shell would have generated large near‐surface melt chambers, which rapidly drain into the underlying ocean and form a continuous surface‐to‐ocean melt column. This melt drainage occurs with any entrained surface materials and provides a consistent means of exchange between the surface and ocean, which likely increases the habitability of internal oceans. Furthermore, this drainage displaces large volumes of water from below impact craters, on the order of 10's of cubic kilometers. This large scale drainage may help to explain the wide range of collapsed, enigmatic crater morphologies observed on Europa, and other ocean worlds. Prompted by field observation of an aufeis‐induced channel avulsion along the Hula Hula River in June 2021, we use measurements of channel migration zone width along 15 rivers flowing north across the Arctic coastal plain in Alaska, USA. We differentiated sites with aufeis that covered ≥1 km2 in early summer during the period 2017–2021 from sites without such aufeis formation. All but four of the 28 sites with aufeis have widths greater than the 95% confidence interval and 20 sites fall outside of the 95% prediction interval for channel width based on drainage area. Pairwise comparison indicates that the population of aufeis sites have significantly wider channel migration zones (p < 0.0001) than non‐aufeis sites after accounting for drainage area. Seasonal aufeis facilitates lateral channel migration and associated heterogeneity. Loss of aufeis under warming climate may reduce habitat diversity in these river corridors. Observations of surface lowering on Larsen C Ice Shelf (LCIS), Antarctica, have prompted concern about its stability. In this study, an ocean model is used to investigate the extent to which changes in ocean forcing may have influenced ice loss and the distribution of stabilizing marine ice beneath LCIS. The model uses a new bathymetry, containing a southern seabed trough discovered using seismic observations. The modeled extent of marine ice, thought to stabilize LCIS, is in good agreement with observations. Experiments applying idealized ocean warming yield an increase in melting over the southern trough. This is inconsistent with lowering observed in northern LCIS, suggesting oceanic forcing is not responsible for that signal. The marine ice extent and thickness reduces significantly under ocean warming, implying a high sensitivity of LCIS stability to changes in ocean forcing. This result could have wide implications for other cold‐water ice shelves around Antarctica. Marine ice forms when seawater freezes to the base of the ice shelf, and is thought to stabilize LCIS. The model uses a new seabed data set that contains a wide, deep seabed trough in the south, found by a seismic survey. In modeled ocean warming experiments, an increase in melting is concentrated in this southern region. However, greater lowering has been observed in the north, suggesting that changes in ocean conditions are not responsible for the lowering. The calculated pattern of marine ice at the base of LCIS looks similar to the observed pattern. With a warmer ocean, marine ice is significantly reduced in crucial regions of the ice shelf. This shows that the stability of LCIS is sensitive to changes in ocean conditions and other ice shelves around Antarctica are likely sensitive to these changes too. The physical interactions between ice sheets and the atmosphere and ocean around them are major factors in determining the state of the climate system, yet many current Earth System models omit them entirely or treat them very simply. In this work we describe how models of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets have been incorporated into the global U.K. Earth System model (UKESM1) via substantial technical developments with a two‐way coupling that passes fluxes of energy and water, and the topography of the ice sheet surface and ice shelf base, between the component models. File‐based coupling outside the running model executables is used throughout to pass information between the components, which we show is both physically appropriate and convenient within the UKESM1 structure. Ice sheet surface mass balance is computed in the land surface model using multi‐layer snowpacks in subgrid‐scale elevation ranges and compares well to the results of regional climate models. Ice shelf front discharge forms icebergs, which drift and melt in the ocean. Ice shelf basal mass balance is simulated using the full three‐dimensional ocean model representation of the circulation in ice‐shelf cavities. We show a range of example results, including from simulations with changes in ice sheet height and thickness of hundreds of meters, and changes in ice sheet grounding line and land‐terminating margin of many tens of kilometres, demonstrating that the coupled model is computationally stable when subject to significant changes in ice sheet geometry. Plain Language Summary: Loss of mass from the ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica makes an important contribution to global mean sea level (GMSL) rise, and one that will increase significantly in the coming decades and centuries. Our limited ability to predict exactly how the Earth's ice sheets will interact with the changing climate is the main reason we cannot say with confidence whether GMSL will rise by tens of centimeters or a meter or more in this century alone. UKESM1 is a state‐of‐the‐art Earth System model used to predict future climate change. Our work allows UKESM1 to be run with interactive models of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. This is a new and complex model, and there are still problems to solve before such tools can be used to produce complete projections of GMSL rise. Our work nevertheless allows us to investigate new areas of climate physics in ways that have not been possible before. Surface meltwater accumulating on Antarctic ice shelves can drive fractures through to the ocean and potentially cause their collapse, leading to increased ice discharge from the continent. Implications of increasing surface melt for future ice shelf stability are inadequately understood. The southern Amery Ice Shelf has an extensive surface hydrological system, and we present data from satellite imagery and ICESat‐2 showing a rapid surface disruption there in winter 2019, covering ∼60 km2. We interpret this as an ice‐covered lake draining through the ice shelf, forming an ice doline with a central depression reaching 80 m depth amidst over 36 m uplift. Flexural rebound modeling suggests 0.75 km3 of water was lost. We observed transient refilling of the doline the following summer with rapid incision of a narrow meltwater channel (20 m wide and 6 m deep). This study demonstrates how high‐resolution geodetic measurements can explore critical fine‐scale ice shelf processes. We present high‐resolution satellite data (imagery and altimetry) showing an abrupt change on East Antarctica's Amery Ice Shelf in June 2019 (midwinter). Meltwater stored in a deep, ice‐covered lake drained through to the ocean below, leaving a deep, uneven 11 km2 depression of fractured ice (a "doline") in the ice shelf surface. The reduced load on the floating ice shelf resulted in flexure, with over 36 m of uplift centered on the former lake. Simple flexure modeling showed that this corresponds to about 0.75 km3 of water being lost to the ocean. ICESat‐2 observations in summer 2020 profiled a new narrow channel inside the doline as meltwater started refilling it from a new lake created by the flexure. ICESat‐2's capacity to observe surface processes at small spatial scales greatly improves our ability to model them, ultimately improving the accuracy of our projections. The findings of BRITICE‐CHRONO Transect 2 through the North Sea Basin and eastern England are reported. We define ice‐sheet marginal oscillation between ~31 and 16 ka, with seven distinctive former ice‐sheet limits (L1–7) constrained by Bayesian statistical analysis. The southernmost limit of the North Sea Lobe is recorded by the Bolders Bank Formation (L1; 25.8–24.6 ka). L2 represents ice‐sheet oscillation and early retreat to the northern edge of the Dogger Bank (23.5–22.2 ka), with the Garret Hill Moraine in north Norfolk recording a significant regional readvance to L3 at 21.5–20.8 ka. Ice‐marginal oscillations at ~26–21 ka resulted in L1, L2 and L3 being partially to totally overprinted. Ice‐dammed lakes related to L1–3, including Lake Humber, are dated at 24.1–22.3 ka. Ice‐sheet oscillation and retreat from L4 to L5 occurred between 19.7 and 17.3 ka, with grounding zone wedges marking an important transition from terrestrial to marine tidewater conditions, triggered by the opening of the Dogger Lake spillway between 19.9 and 17.5 ka. L6 relates to ice retreat under glacimarine conditions and final ice retreat into the Firth of Forth by 15.8 ka. L7 (~15 ka) represents an ice retreat from Bosies Bank into the Moray Firth. Mega‐scale glacial lineations formed by the raking of ice shelves across the seafloor have been reported from multiple polar regions. Here, we present the first evidence of continental slope situated buried lineations in the southern Canadian Beaufort Sea in present‐day water depths of 220 to 800 m. Three separate surfaces with lineations are defined at sub‐seafloor depths of 40 m to 390 m. All lineations are mostly parallel to the general trend of slope contours. The uppermost surface is recognized over a distance of 56 km. In water depths > 500 m the lineations are parallel to each other at a consistent direction (43°–44°). The second lineated surface is a regionally occurring erosional unconformity. This event has two sub‐sets of lineations: mid‐slope situated lineations oriented at 42°–48°, and lineations closer to the continental shelf break at 55°–59°. The third lineated surface is an unconformable horizon buried up to 390 m below seafloor with lineaments oriented between 30° and 55°. All three sets of lineations are interpreted to have been produced by ice‐ploughing on the paleo‐seafloor through the grounding of an ice shelf. Our observations are similar to those documented along the slope off northern Alaska, Chukchi Rise, and Lomonosov Ridge. Collectively, these observations support the concept of an extensive ice shelf across the Arctic Ocean that grounded locally along its margins during multiple glaciations, including during the penultimate (or an earlier) glaciation. The youngest set of lineations indicates ice movement to the southwest with a suggested source in Amundsen Gulf and/or M'Clure Strait. Tentative age considerations for these youngest lineations indicate the first evidence for an analogous extensive ice shelf configuration for the Last Glacial Maximum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The formation of platelet ice is well known to occur under Antarctic sea ice, where subice platelet layers form from supercooled ice shelf water. In the Arctic, however, platelet ice formation has not been extensively observed, and its formation and morphology currently remain enigmatic. Here, we present the first comprehensive, long‐term in situ observations of a decimeter thick subice platelet layer under free‐drifting pack ice of the Central Arctic in winter. Observations carried out with a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) during the midwinter leg of the MOSAiC drift expedition provide clear evidence of the growth of platelet ice layers from supercooled water present in the ocean mixed layer. This platelet formation takes place under all ice types present during the surveys. Oceanographic data from autonomous observing platforms lead us to the conclusion that platelet ice formation is a widespread but yet overlooked feature of Arctic winter sea ice growth. The shape of ice shelf cavities are a major source of uncertainty in understanding ice‐ocean interactions. This limits assessments of the response of the Antarctic ice sheets to climate change. Here we use vibroseis seismic reflection surveys to map the bathymetry beneath the Ekström Ice Shelf, Dronning Maud Land. The new bathymetry reveals an inland‐sloping trough, reaching depths of 1,100 m below sea level, near the current grounding line, which we attribute to erosion by palaeo‐ice streams. The trough does not cross‐cut the outer parts of the continental shelf. Conductivity‐temperature‐depth profiles within the ice shelf cavity reveal the presence of cold water at shallower depths and tidal mixing at the ice shelf margins. It is unknown if warm water can access the trough. The new bathymetry is thought to be representative of many ice shelves in Dronning Maud Land, which together regulate the ice loss from a substantial area of East Antarctica. The accelerated calving of ice shelves buttressing the Antarctic Ice Sheet may form unstable ice cliffs. The marine ice cliff instability hypothesis posits that cliffs taller than a critical height (~90 m) will undergo structural collapse, initiating runaway retreat in ice‐sheet models. This critical height is based on inferences from preexisting, static ice cliffs. Here we show how the critical height increases with the timescale of ice‐shelf collapse. We model failure mechanisms within an ice cliff deforming after removal of ice‐shelf buttressing stresses. If removal occurs rapidly, the cliff deforms primarily elastically and fails through tensile‐brittle fracture, even at relatively small cliff heights. As the ice‐shelf removal timescale increases, viscous relaxation dominates, and the critical height increases to ~540 m for timescales greater than days. A 90‐m critical height implies ice‐shelf removal in under an hour. Incorporation of ice‐shelf collapse timescales in prognostic ice‐sheet models will mitigate the marine ice cliff instability, implying less ice mass loss. We show that the height at which a cliff collapses increases with the timescale of ice‐shelf removal. If the ice shelf is removed rapidly, deformation may be concentrated, forming vertical cracks and potentially leading to the collapse of small (e.g., 90‐m) cliffs. However, if we consider ice‐shelf collapse timescales longer than a few days (consistent with observations), deformation is distributed throughout the cliff, which flows viscously rather than collapsing. We expect that including the effects of such ice‐shelf collapse timescales in future ice‐sheet models would mitigate runaway cliff collapse and reduce predicted ice‐sheet mass loss. The article presents a study on the ice shelf flow across the Alaska and Beaufort Margin (ABM) of the Arctic Ocean. It states that new imagery of seafloor along the stretch of the ABM in water depths from 250 to 2800 meter depicts a repetitive association of glaciogenic bedforms, broad erosional bathymetric features and adjacent downslope turbidite gullies. It mentions that these bedforms have styled, depths and orientations the same as the characteristics found earlier on the Chukchi Borderland. The glacial geology of surrounding areas proposed that an ice shelf probably flowed from the mouth of overdeepened glacial throughs in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago westward along the ABM and Across the Chucki Borderland.
