Avoiding financial losses requires preventing catastrophic oil‐filled power transformer breakdowns. Continuous online transformer monitoring is needed. The authors use paper insulation to evaluate transformer health for continuous online transformer monitoring. The study suggests a new artificial intelligence method for estimating paper insulation residual life in oil‐immersed power transformers. The four artificial intelligence models use backpropagation‐based neural networks to predict paper insulation lifespan. Four primary transformer insulating paper failure indices—degree of polymerisation, 2‐furfuraldehyde, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide—form the basis of these models. Each model, including the backpropagation‐based neural networks, estimates paper insulation life using one failure index, along with moisture and temperature data. Optimisation techniques enhance hidden layer neurons and epoch count for improved performance. Results are validated against literature‐based life models, establishing a precise input–output correlation. This method accurately predicts the remaining useable life of power transformer paper insulation, enabling utilities to take proactive measures for safe and efficient transformer operation. In this white paper, experts from the Digital Pathology Association (DPA) define terminology and concepts in the emerging field of computational pathology, with a focus on its application to histology images analyzed together with their associated patient data to extract information. This review offers a historical perspective and describes the potential clinical benefits from research and applications in this field, as well as significant obstacles to adoption. Best practices for implementing computational pathology workflows are presented. These include infrastructure considerations, acquisition of training data, quality assessments, as well as regulatory, ethical, and cyber‐security concerns. Recommendations are provided for regulators, vendors, and computational pathology practitioners in order to facilitate progress in the field. © 2019 The Authors. In this paper, we propose a binary feedback scheme for congestion control in computer networks using a gradient-based mechanism which employs neural network modelling of the system dynamics. The optimal direction for rate adjustment at the source is based on a single bit feedback signal which depends upon the sign of the sensitivity of the system performance index with respect to queue input rate. The paper presents the scheme and the analysis that went into the choice of the various decision mechanisms. Recent advances in the field of computer vision can be attributed to the emergence of deep learning techniques, in particular convolutional neural networks. Neural networks, partially inspired by the brain’s visual cortex, enable a computer to “learn” the most important features of the images it is shown in relation to a specific, specified task. Given sufficient data and time, (deep) convolutional neural networks offer more easily designed, more generalizable, and significantly more accurate end‐to‐end systems than is possible with previously employed computer vision techniques. This review paper seeks to provide an overview of deep learning in the field of computer vision with an emphasis on recent progress in tasks involving 3D visual data. The cost for covering active power losses makes a significant item in transmission system operators (TSO) annual budgets, and still it received limited attention in the existing literature. The focus of accurate power loss forecasting and procurement is of high increase during the past 2 years due to spikes in electricity prices, making the cost of covering the active power losses a dominant factor of TSO operational costs. This paper presents practical aspects of the highly accurate models for transmission loss forecast in the day ahead time frame for the Croatian transmission system. The contributions are two‐fold: 1) Practical insights into usable TSO data are provided, filling a critical research gap and a foundational literature review is established on transmission loss forecasting. 2) A novel method utilizing only electricity transit data as input which outperforms existing practices is presented. For this, several algorithms such as gradient boosted decision tree model (XGB), support vector regressors, multiple linear regression and fully connected feedforward artificial neural networks are developed, and implemented and validated on data obtained from the Croatian TSO. The results show that the XGB model outperforms current TSO model by 32% for 4 months of comparison and TSCNET's commercial solution by 25% during a year‐long testing period. With the rapid development of big data science, the research paradigm in the field of geosciences has also begun to shift to big data‐driven scientific discovery. Researchers need to read a huge amount of literature to locate, extract and aggregate relevant results and data that are published and stored in PDF format for building a scientific database to support the big data‐driven discovery. In this paper, based on the findings of a study about how geoscientists annotate literature and extract and aggregate data, we proposed GeoDeepShovel, a publicly available AI‐assisted data extraction system to support their needs. GeoDeepShovel leverages state‐of‐the‐art neural network models to support researcher(s) easily and accurately annotate papers (in the PDF format) and extract data from tables, figures, maps, etc., in a human–AI collaboration manner. As a part of the Deep‐Time Digital Earth (DDE) program, GeoDeepShovel has been deployed for 8 months, and there are already 400 users from 44 geoscience research teams within the DDE program using it to construct scientific databases on a daily basis, and more than 240 projects and 50,000 documents have been processed for building scientific databases. Eye health has become a global health concern and attracted broad attention. Over the years, researchers have proposed many state‐of‐the‐art convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing ocular diseases efficiently and precisely. However, most existing methods were dedicated to constructing sophisticated CNNs, inevitably ignoring the trade‐off between performance and model complexity. To alleviate this paradox, this paper proposes a lightweight yet efficient network architecture, mixed‐decomposed convolutional network (MDNet), to recognise ocular diseases. In MDNet, we introduce a novel mixed‐decomposed depthwise convolution method, which takes advantage of depthwise convolution and depthwise dilated convolution operations to capture low‐resolution and high‐resolution patterns by using fewer computations and fewer parameters. We conduct extensive experiments on the clinical anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS‐OCT), LAG, University of California San Diego, and CIFAR‐100 datasets. The results show our MDNet achieves a better trade‐off between the performance and model complexity than efficient CNNs including MobileNets and MixNets. Specifically, our MDNet outperforms MobileNets by 2.5% of accuracy by using 22% fewer parameters and 30% fewer computations on the AS‐OCT dataset. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a comprehensive review of the most recent papers and research trends in the fields of wind energy and artificial intelligence. Our study aims to guide future research by identifying the potential application and research areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques in the wind energy sector and the knowledge gaps in this field. Artificial intelligence techniques offer significant benefits and advantages in many sub‐areas, such as increasing the efficiency of wind energy facilities, estimating energy production, optimizing operation and maintenance, providing security and control, data analysis, and management. Our research focuses on studies indexed in the Web of Science library on wind energy between 2000 and 2023 using sub‐branches of artificial intelligence techniques such as artificial neural networks, other machine learning methods, data mining, fuzzy logic, meta‐heuristics, and statistical methods. In this way, current methods and techniques in the literature are examined to produce more efficient, sustainable, and reliable wind energy, and the findings are discussed for future studies. Microgrids play a pivotal role in modern power distribution systems, necessitating precise control methodologies to tackle challenges such as performance instability, especially during islanding operations. This paper introduces an advanced control strategy that employs artificial intelligence, specifically deep neural network (DNN) predictions, to enhance microgrid performance, particularly in an islanding mode where voltage and frequency (VaF) deviations are critical concerns. By utilizing real‐time data and historical trends, the proposed controller accurately forecasts power demand and generation patterns, enabling proactive planning and optimization of efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in microgrid management. One significant aspect of this approach is to establish an intelligent distributed control system that minimizes reliance on communication devices while ensuring that VaF remains within acceptable limits. Moreover, it consolidates the roles of primary and secondary controllers within the microgrid and facilitates the prediction of load changes and load injection processes. This capability significantly reduces microgrid VaF deviations, enhancing system performance through precise power distribution and balanced coordination among distributed generators. Consequently, it ensures the stability and reliability of the system. At present, in the age of computers and automation of services, deep learning (DL) technology, mainly the subset of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), is expressively used in innumerable domains of computer vision such as data analysis, image recognition, classification, natural language processing, and many more. It has become the foremost choice of researchers as of its effectiveness in producing decent results. This paper presents detailed and analytical literature starting from the very elementary level to the recent trends of this trending technology while focusing on the most used DL model, that is, convolutional neural network and its pretrained models for image classification and object detection. It also reviews diverse existing current literature based on this. Further, a brief introduction of AI, ML, and DL has also been presented, making the foundation for the readers. As pretrained models continuously give an upper edge to DL over ML and other technologies, 23 most popular pretrained models with their architectural diagrams have also been presented. Coral reefs are among the most diverse ecosystems on our planet, and essential to the livelihood of hundreds of millions of people who depend on them for food security, income from tourism and coastal protection. Unfortunately, most coral reefs are existentially threatened by global climate change and local anthropogenic pressures. To better understand the dynamics underlying deterioration of reefs, monitoring at high spatial and temporal resolution is key. However, conventional monitoring methods for quantifying coral cover and species abundance are limited in scale due to the extensive manual labor required. Although computer vision tools have been employed to aid in this process, in particular structure‐from‐motion (SfM) photogrammetry for 3D mapping and deep neural networks for image segmentation, analysis of the data products creates a bottleneck, effectively limiting their scalability.This paper presents a new paradigm for mapping underwater environments from ego‐motion video, unifying 3D mapping systems that use machine learning to adapt to challenging conditions under water, combined with a modern approach for semantic segmentation of images.The method is exemplified on coral reefs in the northern Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea, demonstrating high‐precision 3D semantic mapping at unprecedented scale with significantly reduced required labor costs: given a trained model, a 100 m video transect acquired within 5 min of diving with a cheap consumer‐grade camera can be fully automatically transformed into a semantic point cloud within 5 min. We demonstrate the spatial accuracy of our method and the semantic segmentation performance (of at least 80% total accuracy), and publish a large dataset of ego‐motion videos from the northern Gulf of Aqaba, along with a dataset of video frames annotated for dense semantic segmentation of benthic classes.Our approach significantly scales up coral reef monitoring by taking a leap towards fully automatic analysis of video transects. The method advances coral reef transects by reducing the labor, equipment, logistics, and computing cost. This can help to inform conservation policies more efficiently. Aims: Gestational diabetes (GDM) is the most common metabolic disorder of pregnancy, requiring complex management and empowerment of those affected. Mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps) are proposed for streamlining healthcare service delivery, extending care relationships into the community, and empowering those affected by prolonged medical disorders to be equal collaborators in their healthcare. This review investigates mHealth apps intended for use with GDM; specifically those powered by artificial intelligence (AI) or providing decision support. Methods: A scoping review using the novel Survey Tool approach for collaborative literature Reviews (STaR) process was performed. Results: From 18 papers, 11 discrete GDM‐based mHealth apps were identified, but only 3 were reasonably mature with only one currently in use in a clinical setting. Two‐thirds of the apps provided condition‐relevant contextual user feedback that could aid in patient self care. However, although each app targeted one or more components of the GDM clinical pathway, no app addressed the entirety from diagnosis to postpartum. Conclusions: There are limited mHealth apps for GDM that incorporate AI or AI‐based decision support. Many exist only to record patient information like blood glucose readings or diet, provide generic patient education or advice, or to reduce adverse events by providing medication or appointment alerts. Significant barriers remain that continue to limit the adoption of mHealth apps in clinical care settings. Further research and development are needed to deliver intelligent holistic mHealth apps using AI that can truly reduce healthcare resource use and improve outcomes by enabling patient self care in the community. Deep learning has recently gained attention in the atmospheric and oceanic sciences for its potential to improve the accuracy of numerical simulations or to reduce computational costs. Super‐resolution is one such technique for high‐resolution inference from low‐resolution data. This paper proposes a new scheme, called four‐dimensional super‐resolution data assimilation (4D‐SRDA). This framework calculates the time evolution of a system from low‐resolution simulations using a physics‐based model, while a trained neural network simultaneously performs data assimilation and spatio‐temporal super‐resolution. The use of low‐resolution simulations without ensemble members reduces the computational cost of obtaining inferences at high spatio‐temporal resolution. In 4D‐SRDA, physics‐based simulations and neural‐network inferences are performed alternately, possibly causing a domain shift, that is, a statistical difference between the training and test data, especially in offline training. Domain shifts can reduce the accuracy of inference. To mitigate this risk, we developed super‐resolution mixup (SR‐mixup)–a data augmentation method for domain generalization. SR‐mixup creates a linear combination of randomly sampled inputs, resulting in synthetic data with a different distribution from the original data. The proposed methods were validated using an idealized barotropic ocean jet with supervised learning. The results suggest that the combination of 4D‐SRDA and SR‐mixup is effective for robust inference cycles. This study highlights the potential of super‐resolution and domain‐generalization techniques, in the field of data assimilation, especially for the integration of physics‐based and data‐driven models. The neural network, a model developed in the field of artificial intelligence, has recently gained attention for its potential to learn the relationship between any variables from a sufficient amount of data. For example, a neural network can be trained to make high‐resolution images from low‐resolution images. This process is called super‐resolution. We propose the incorporation of a neural network for super‐resolution into an atmospheric or ocean model that performs numerical simulations at low resolution. Since the atmospheric or ocean model is of low resolution, the proposed framework is computationally efficient while still allowing for high‐resolution results with the aid of the neural network. Furthermore, to make the inference accurate, observation data are fused with atmospheric or ocean predictions in the neural network. In real‐world applications, it is important to make predictions robust to noise from various factors. Accordingly, we developed a new technique where certain noise is added during the training of the neural network. The approach proposed here can efficiently compute high‐resolution predictions of the atmosphere and ocean without compromising robustness. Researchers can investigate many aspects of animal ecology through noninvasive photo–identification. Photo–identification is becoming more efficient as matching individuals between photos is increasingly automated. However, the convolutional neural network models that have facilitated this change need many training images to generalize well. As a result, they have often been developed for individual species that meet this threshold. These single‐species methods might underperform, as they ignore potential similarities in identifying characteristics and the photo–identification process among species.In this paper, we introduce a multi‐species photo–identification model based on a state‐of‐the‐art method in human facial recognition, the ArcFace classification head. Our model uses two such heads to jointly classify species and identities, allowing species to share information and parameters within the network. As a demonstration, we trained this model with 50,796 images from 39 catalogues of 24 cetacean species, evaluating its predictive performance on 21,192 test images from the same catalogues. We further evaluated its predictive performance with two external catalogues entirely composed of identities that the model did not see during training.The model achieved a mean average precision (MAP) of 0.869 on the test set. Of these, 10 catalogues representing seven species achieved a MAP score over 0.95. For some species, there was notable variation in performance among catalogues, largely explained by variation in photo quality. Finally, the model appeared to generalize well, with the two external catalogues scoring similarly to their species' counterparts in the larger test set.From our cetacean application, we provide a list of recommendations for potential users of this model, focusing on those with cetacean photo–identification catalogues. For example, users with high quality images of animals identified by dorsal nicks and notches should expect near optimal performance. Users can expect decreasing performance for catalogues with higher proportions of indistinct individuals or poor quality photos. Accurately predicting fuel blends' lower heating values (LHV) is crucial for optimizing a power plant. In this paper, we employ multiple artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning‐based models for predicting the LHV of various fuel blends. Coal of two different ranks and two types of biomass is used in this study. One was the South African imported bituminous coal, and the other was lignite thar coal extracted from the Thar Coal Block‐2 mine by Sind Engro Coal Mining Company, Pakistan. Two types of biomass, that is, sugarcane bagasse and rice husk, were obtained locally from a sugar mill and rice mill located in the vicinity of Sahiwal, Punjab. Bituminous coal mixture with other coal types and both types of biomass are used with 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% weight fractions, respectively. The calculation and model development procedure resulted in 91 different AI‐based models. The best is the Ridge Regressor, a high‐level end‐to‐end approach for fitting the model. SUMMARY In financial trading, technical and quantitative analysis tools are used for the development of decision support systems. Although these traditional tools are useful, new techniques in the field of machine learning have been developed for time‐series forecasting. This paper analyses the role of attribute selection on the development of a simple deep‐learning ANN (D‐ANN) multi‐agent framework to accomplish a profitable trading strategy in the course of a series of trading simulations in the foreign exchange market. The paper evaluates the performance of the D‐ANN multi‐agent framework over different time spans of high‐frequency (HF) intraday asset time‐series data and determines how a set of the framework attributes produces effective forecasting for profitable trading. The paper shows the existence of predictable short‐term price trends in the market time series, and an understanding of the probability of price movements may be useful to HF traders. One important goal of cognitive science is to understand the mind in terms of its representational and computational capacities, where computational modeling plays an essential role in providing theoretical explanations and predictions of human behavior and mental phenomena. In my research, I have been using computational modeling, together with behavioral experiments and cognitive neuroscience methods, to investigate the information processing mechanisms underlying learning and visual cognition in terms of perceptual representation and attention strategy. In perceptual representation, I have used neural network models to understand how the split architecture in the human visual system influences visual cognition, and to examine perceptual representation development as the results of expertise. In attention strategy, I have developed the Eye Movement analysis with Hidden Markov Models method for quantifying eye movement pattern and consistency using both spatial and temporal information, which has led to novel findings across disciplines not discoverable using traditional methods. By integrating it with deep neural networks (DNN), I have developed DNN+HMM to account for eye movement strategy learning in human visual cognition. The understanding of the human mind through computational modeling also facilitates research on artificial intelligence's (AI) comparability with human cognition, which can in turn help explainable AI systems infer humans' belief on AI's operations and provide human‐centered explanations to enhance human−AI interaction and mutual understanding. Together, these demonstrate the essential role of computational modeling methods in providing theoretical accounts of the human mind as well as its interaction with its environment and AI systems. It is important for construction personnel to observe the dress code, such as the correct wearing of safety helmets and reflective vests is conducive to protecting the workers' lives and safety of construction. A YOLO network‐based detection algorithm is proposed for the construction personnel dress code (YOLO‐CPDC). Firstly, Multi‐Head Self‐Attention (MHSA) is introduced into the backbone network to build a hybrid backbone, called Convolution MHSA Network (CMNet). The CMNet gives the model a global field of view and enhances the detection capability of the model for small and obscured targets. Secondly, an efficient and lightweight convolution module is designed. It is named Ghost Shuffle Attention‐Conv‐BN‐SiLU (GSA‐CBS) and is used in the neck network. The GSANeck network reduces the model size without affecting the performance. Finally, the SIoU is used in the loss function and Soft NMS is used for post‐processing. Experimental results on the self‐constructed dataset show that YOLO‐CPDC algorithm has higher detection accuracy than current methods. YOLO‐CPDC achieves a mAP50 of 93.6%. Compared with the YOLOv5s, the number of parameters of our model is reduced by 18% and the mAP50 is improved by 1.1%. With the development of Raman spectroscopy and the expansion of its application domains, conventional methods for spectral data analysis have manifested many limitations. Exploring new approaches to facilitate Raman spectroscopy and analysis has become an area of intensifying focus for research. It has been demonstrated that machine learning techniques can more efficiently extract valuable information from spectral data, creating unprecedented opportunities for analytical science. This paper outlines traditional and more recently developed statistical methods that are commonly used in machine learning (ML) and ML‐algorithms for different Raman spectroscopy‐based classification and recognition applications. The methods include Principal Component Analysis, K‐Nearest Neighbor, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine, as well as neural network‐based deep learning algorithms such as Artificial Neural Networks, Convolutional Neural Networks, etc. The bulk of the review is dedicated to the research advances in machine learning applied to Raman spectroscopy from several fields, including material science, biomedical applications, food science, and others, which reached impressive levels of analytical accuracy. The combination of Raman spectroscopy and machine learning offers unprecedented opportunities to achieve high throughput and fast identification in many of these application fields. Object detection has been in the focus of researchers within varying applications propelled by the recent advances in deep learning and neural networks. Many applications require both detection of class instances as well as a quantification of the spatial coverage of the class instances. While the performance of deep learning approaches for these tasks has been extensively studied there has not been much effort into creating a unified network structure to achieve both goals. The purpose of this paper is to present a regressor to the faster R‐CNN architecture that can help quantify the spatial coverage estimation of some detected object. The goal of the regressor is to provide a reproducible result of the spatial coverage. To demonstrate the developed architecture, an example use‐case of land cover estimation is used. The experiments conducted in this paper show that the network does not sacrifice object detection accuracy, and indicate that the network is able to estimate the spatial coverage of six different types of land. Alzheimer's disease is a type of progressive neurological disorder which is irreversible and the patient suffers from severe memory loss. This disease is the seventh largest cause of death across the globe. As yet there is no cure for this disease, the only way to control it is its early diagnosis. Deep Learning techniques are mostly preferred in classification tasks because of their high accuracy over a large dataset. The main focus of this paper is on fine‐tuning and evaluating the Deep Convolutional Networks for Alzheimer's disease classification. An empirical analysis of various deep learning‐based neural network models has been done. The architectures evaluation includes InceptionV3, ResNet with 50 layers and 101 layers and DenseNet with 169 layers. The dataset has been taken from Kaggle which is publicly available and comprises of four classes which represents the various stages of Alzheimer's disease. In our experiment, the accuracy of DenseNet consistently improved with the increase in the number of epochs resulting in a 99.94% testing accuracy score better than the rest of the architectures. Although the results obtained are satisfactory, but for future research, we can apply transfer learning on other deep models like Inception V4, AlexNet etc., to increase accuracy and decrease computational time. Also, in future we can work on other datasets like ADNI or OASIS and use Positron emitted tomography, diffusion tensor imaging neuroimages and their combinations for better result. Background: Auditory–perceptual assessment of voice is a subjective procedure. Artificial intelligence with deep learning (DL) may improve the consistency and accessibility of this task. It is unclear how a DL model performs on different acoustic features. Aims: To develop a generalizable DL framework for identifying dysphonia using a multidimensional acoustic feature. Methods & Procedures: Recordings of sustained phonations of /a/ and /i/ were retrospectively collected from a clinical database. Subjects contained 238 dysphonic and 223 vocally healthy speakers of Chinese Mandarin. All audio clips were split into multiple 1.5‐s segments and normalized to the same loudness level. Mel frequency cepstral coefficients and mel‐spectrogram were extracted from these standardized segments. Each set of features was used in a convolutional neural network (CNN) to perform a binary classification task. The best feature was obtained through a five‐fold cross‐validation on a random selection of 80% data. The resultant DL framework was tested on the remaining 20% data and a public German voice database. The performance of the DL framework was compared with those of two baseline machine‐learning models. Outcomes & Results: The mel‐spectrogram yielded the best model performance, with a mean area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.972 and an accuracy of 92% in classifying audio segments. The resultant DL framework significantly outperformed both baseline models in detecting dysphonic subjects on both test sets. The best outcomes were achieved when classifications were made based on all segments of both vowels, with 95% accuracy, 92% recall, 98% precision and 98% specificity on the Chinese test set, and 92%, 95%, 90% and 89%, respectively, on the German set. Conclusions & Implications: This study demonstrates the feasibility of DL for automatic detection of dysphonia. The mel‐spectrogram is a preferred acoustic feature for the task. This framework may be used for vocal health screening and facilitate automatic perceptual evaluation of voice in the era of big data. This study explored the feasibility of a DL approach for automatic detection of dysphonia, along with a quantitative comparison of two common sets of acoustic features. What this study adds to existing knowledge: A CNN model is excellent at decoding multidimensional acoustic features, outperforming the baseline parameter‐based models in identifying dysphonic voices. The first 13 mel‐frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) are sufficient for this task. The mel‐spectrogram results in greater performance, indicating the acoustic features are presented in a more favourable way than the MFCCs to the CNN model. Introduction: Artificial intelligence models and networks can learn and process dense information in a short time, leading to an efficient, objective, and accurate clinical and histopathological analysis, which can be useful to improve treatment modalities and prognostic outcomes. This paper targets oral pathologists, oral medicinists, and head and neck surgeons to provide them with a theoretical and conceptual foundation of artificial intelligence‐based diagnostic approaches, with a special focus on convolutional neural networks, the state‐of‐the‐art in artificial intelligence and deep learning. Methods: The authors conducted a literature review, and the convolutional neural network's conceptual foundations and functionality were illustrated based on a unique interdisciplinary point of view. Summary: This paper proposes an approach for the reduction of redundant spatial information recorded by implantable high‐density neural recording microsystems. To realize the proposed approach, a modified whitening transform is introduced, which is efficient enough (in hardware implementation) to comply with the hardware design constraints associated with implantable microsystems. Based on the proposed approach, a 32‐channel processor is designed, prototyped, and tested for a library of both pre‐recorded and synthesized multichannel single‐unit neural signals. Designed in a 0.18‐μm standard CMOS technology, the processor occupies 0.3 mm2 of silicon area and consumes 238 μW @1.8 V/1.28 MHz. Summary: Internet data thefts, intrusions and DDoS attacks are some of the big concerns for the network security today. Detection of these anomalies, is gaining tremendous impetus with the development of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Even now researchers are shifting the base from machine learning to the deep neural architectures with auto‐feature selection capabilities. We in this paper propose multiple deep neural network architectures which can select, co‐learn and teach the gradients of the neural network by itself with no human intervention. This is what we call as meta‐learning. The models are configured in both many to one and many to many design architectures. We combine long short‐term memory (LSTM), bi‐directional long short‐term memory (BiLSTM), convolutional neural network (CNN) layers along with attention mechanism to achieve the higher accuracy values among all the available deep learning model architectures. LSTMs overcomes the vanishing and exploding gradient problem of RNN and attention mechanism mimics the human cognitive attention that screens the network flow to obtain the key features for network traffic classification. In addition, we also add multiple convolutional layers to get the key features for network traffic classification. We get the time series analysis of the traffic done for the possibility of a DDoS attack without using any feature selection techniques and without balancing the dataset. The performance analysis is done based on confusion matrix scores, that is, accuracy, false alarm rate (FAR), sensitivity, specificity, false‐positive rate (FPR), F1 score, area under curve (AUC) analysis and loss functions on well‐known public benchmark KDD Cup'99 data set. Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in various branches of engineering. In this article, artificial neural networks are used to predict the crush resistance of corrugated packaging. Among the analysed packages were boxes with ventilation openings, packages with perforations and typical flap boxes, which make the proposed estimation method very universal. Typical shallow feedforward networks were used, which are perfect for regression problems, mainly when the set of input and output parameters is small, so no complicated architecture or advanced learning techniques are required. The input parameters of the neural networks are selected so as to take into account not only the material used for the production of the packaging but also the dimensions of the box and the impact of ventilation holes and perforations on the load capacity of individual walls of the packaging. In order to maximize the effectiveness of neural network training process, the group of input parameters was changed so as to eliminate those to which the sensitivity of the model was the lowest. This allowed the selection of the optimal configuration of training pairs for which the estimation error was on the acceptable level. Finally, models of neural networks were selected, for which the training and testing error did not exceed 10%. The demonstrated effectiveness allows us to conclude that the proposed set of universal input parameters is suitable for efficient training of a single neural network model capable of predicting the compressive strength of various types of corrugated packaging. Artificial synapses are the basic building block of artificial neural networks capable of neuromorphic computing, which might overtake conventional digital computing in areas like artificial intelligence, deep learning, and in‐memory computation. Neuromorphic computing with artificial synapses opens a new window for fast in‐memory computing and image processing. In this paper, an MoOx‐based artificial synapse that mimics almost all characteristics of bio‐synapses is demonstrated. The fabricated device shows excellent synaptic properties such as potentiation, depression, forgetting, paired‐pulse facilitation, and spike‐timing‐dependent plasticity. The mechanism behind all the observed characteristics has been well explained. A lateral‐type device is also designed and tested in order to confirm the conductance change during the application of electrical pulses. Energy‐dispersive X‐ray analysis and Raman analysis reveal that the switching mechanism is primarily due to the formation and rupture of conducting filaments composed of Magnéli phases of MoOx. Since the fabricated ITO/MoOx/Ag artificial synapse exhibits excellent synaptic characteristics and the mechanism is thoroughly explored, this study will contribute to the fabrication of neural networks and future neuromorphic computing. Can machine learning help us make better decisions about a changing planet? In this paper, we illustrate and discuss the potential of a promising corner of machine learning known as deep reinforcement learning (RL) to help tackle the most challenging conservation decision problems. We provide a conceptual and technical introduction to deep RL as well as annotated code so that researchers can adopt, evaluate and extend these approaches.RL explicitly focuses on designing an agent who interacts with an environment that is dynamic and uncertain. Deep RL is the subfield of RL that incorporates deep neural networks into the agent. We train deep RL agents to solve sequential decision‐making problems in setting fisheries quotas and managing ecological tipping points.We show that a deep RL agent is able to learn a nearly optimal solution for the fisheries management problem. For the tipping point problem, we show that a deep RL agent can outperform a sensible rule‐of‐thumb strategy.Our results demonstrate that deep RL has the potential to solve challenging decision problems in conservation. While this potential may be compelling, the challenges involved in successfully deploying RL‐based management to realistic scenarios are formidable—the required expertise and computational cost may place these applications beyond the reach of all but large, international technology firms. Ecologists must establish a better understanding of how these algorithms work and fail if we are to realize this potential and avoid the pitfalls such a transition would bring. We ultimately set forth a research framework based on well‐posed, public challenges so that ecologists and computer scientists can collaborate towards solving hard decision‐making problems in conservation. Cognitive Radio (CR) with other advancements such as the Internet of things and machine learning has recently emerged as the main involved technique to use spectrum in an efficient manner. It can access the spectrum in a fully dynamic way and exploit the unused spectrum resources without creating any harm to cognitive users. In this paper, the authors develop a CR access strategy founded on the implementation of an efficient Deep Multi‐user Reinforcement Learning algorithm based on a combination of a Deep neural network, Q‐learning, and cooperative multi‐agent systems. The proposed approach consists of two stages: the user choice algorithm to set up an agent's activation order, and the frequency choice method to select the optimal channel on the appropriate bandwidth. Reasonable implementation is proposed, and the obtained results demonstrate that the authors' approach can improve wireless communication for all CR terminals. It shows satisfactory performances in terms of user satisfaction degree and the number of used channels and can keep the channel allocation plan always in the appropriate state. The last two decades have produced unprecedented successes in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML), due almost entirely to advances in deep neural networks (DNNs). Deep hierarchical memory networks are not a novel concept in cognitive science and can be traced back more than a half century to Simon's early work on discrimination nets for simulating human expertise. The major difference between DNNs and the deep memory nets meant for explaining human cognition is that the latter are symbolic networks meant to model the dynamics of human memory and learning. Cognition‐inspired symbolic deep networks (SDNs) address several known issues with DNNs, including (1) learning efficiency, where a much larger number of training examples are required for DNNs than would be expected for a human; (2) catastrophic interference, where what is learned by a DNN gets unlearned when a new problem is presented; and (3) explainability, where there is no way to explain what is learned by a DNN. This paper explores whether SDNs can achieve similar classification accuracy performance to DNNs across several popular ML datasets and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Simulations reveal that (1) SDNs provide similar accuracy to DNNs in most cases, (2) SDNs are far more efficient than DNNs, (3) SDNs are as robust as DNNs to irrelevant/noisy attributes in the data, and (4) SDNs are far more robust to catastrophic interference than DNNs. We conclude that SDNs offer a promising path toward human‐level accuracy and efficiency in category learning. More generally, ML frameworks could stand to benefit from cognitively inspired approaches, borrowing more features and functionality from models meant to simulate and explain human learning. Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) are popular for classifying large noisy analogue data. However, DNNs suffer from several known issues, including explainability, efficiency, catastrophic interference, and a need for high‐end computational resources. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly used in medical education, but our understanding of the validity of AI‐based assessments (AIBA) as compared with traditional clinical expert‐based assessments (EBA) is limited. In this study, the authors aimed to compare and contrast the validity evidence for the assessment of a complex clinical skill based on scores generated from an AI and trained clinical experts, respectively. Methods: The study was conducted between September 2020 to October 2022. The authors used Kane's validity framework to prioritise and organise their evidence according to the four inferences: scoring, generalisation, extrapolation and implications. The context of the study was chorionic villus sampling performed within the simulated setting. AIBA and EBA were used to evaluate performances of experts, intermediates and novice based on video recordings. The clinical experts used a scoring instrument developed in a previous international consensus study. The AI used convolutional neural networks for capturing features on video recordings, motion tracking and eye movements to arrive at a final composite score. Results: A total of 45 individuals participated in the study (22 novices, 12 intermediates and 11 experts). The authors demonstrated validity evidence for scoring, generalisation, extrapolation and implications for both EBA and AIBA. The plausibility of assumptions related to scoring, evidence of reproducibility and relation to different training levels was examined. Issues relating to construct underrepresentation, lack of explainability, and threats to robustness were identified as potential weak links in the AIBA validity argument compared with the EBA validity argument. Conclusion: There were weak links in the use of AIBA compared with EBA, mainly in their representation of the underlying construct but also regarding their explainability and ability to transfer to other datasets. However, combining AI and clinical expert‐based assessments may offer complementary benefits, which is a promising subject for future research. A more accurate synaptic modeling based on oxygen vacancy conductive mechanism is presented in this paper. Two internal state variables, that is, the length and area of conductive region, are used to describe the vertical and lateral growth/dissolution dynamics of the region, based on the physical mechanisms of ion drift and two different diffusion effects. Since the effect of length on the electric field is not negligible, it is introduced into the modeling. In addition, the Fick and Soret diffusions are considered, because they cause the model to produce a "forgetting" property and a "memory" retention. By the comparisons, this modeling captures the actual device better than others. In addition, the previous models can be derived from this one. Some rough analysis suggests that the modeling possibly captures different memristors by adjusting the parameters, and the effects of oxygen concentration and temperature on synapse can also be considered. Therefore, this modeling is more comprehensive and generalized. Several important synaptic functions are simulated, including excitatory postsynaptic current, paired‐pulse facilitation, spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, and spike‐timing‐dependent plasticity, which may provide a theoretical basis for some potential applications such as artificial neural networks and artificial intelligence. Bio‐inspired artificial neural networks can be used to realize the efficient perception and parallel processing of unstructured data. This paper proposes a feedback‐controlled response system based on a NO2‐detecting artificial sensory synapse, which can process, judge, and react to a varying gas environment. The NO2‐detecting artificial sensory synapse adopts an organic heterostructure involving the charge trapping layer (pentacene) and hole‐conducting layer (copper‐phthalocyanine). The electron‐withdrawing nature of NO2 and its high compatibility with copper‐phthalocyanine induce the retentive behavior of an increase in the conductance at the hole conduction channel when consecutive positive pulses are applied to the gate terminal. The system consists of the artificial sensory synapse and artificial neuron circuits, which can provide systematic responses to varying NO2 conditions, thereby successfully simulating the efficient risk‐response system of biological neural networks. This paper discusses the factors affecting quality of school educational process. It describes the application of artificial intelligence approaches (neural networks) into the educational process. The analysis of methods for tracking changes in the position of the head while studying at school or at home is presented. The results obtained make it possible to evaluate the psycho‐physiological, psycho‐emotional state of primary school students in the process of interacting with a computer when performing educational tasks. The goal is to create computer tools that monitors changes in head position using images from a laptop or tablet digital camera. This article presents the stages of developing a neural network for assessing head turns when performing a school assignment and the results of applying the program. Neural network (NN) models have significantly impacted fatigue‐related engineering communities and are expected to increase rapidly due to the recent advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence. A comprehensive review of fatigue modeling methods using NNs is lacking and will help to recognize past achievements and suggest future research directions. Thus, this paper presents a survey of 251 publications between 1990 and July 2021. The NN modeling in fatigue is classified into five applications: fatigue life prediction, fatigue crack, fatigue damage diagnosis, fatigue strength, and fatigue load. A wide range of NN architectures are employed in the literature and are summarized in this review. An overview of important considerations and current limitations for the application of NNs in fatigue is provided. Statistical analysis for the past and the current trend is provided with representative examples. Existing gaps and future research directions are also presented based on the reviewed articles. The sudden rise in the ability of machine learning methodology, such as deep neural networks, to identify and predict with great accuracy instances of malignant cell growth from radiological images has led prominent developers of this technology, such as Geoffrey Hinton, to hold the view that "[...] we should stop training radiologists." Similar views exist in other contexts regarding the replacement of humans with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The assumption in these kinds of views is that deep neural networks are better than human radiologists in that they are more accurate, less costly, and have more predictive power than their human counterparts. In this paper, I argue that these considerations, even if true, are simply inadequate as reasons for us to allocate the kind of trust suggested by Hinton and others to these sorts of artifacts. In particular, I show that if the same considerations were true of something other than an AI device, say a pigeon, we would not have sufficient reason to trust them in the same way as suggested of deep neural networks in a medical setting. If this is the case then these considerations are also insufficient to trust AI enough to replace radiologists. Furthermore, I argue that the reliability of AI methodologies such as deep neural networks—which are at the center of this argument—is something that has not yet been established, and doing so faces fundamental challenges. Because of these challenges, it is not possible to ascribe the level of reliability expected from the deployment of a medical device. So, not only are the reasons cited in favor of the deployment of AI technologies in medical settings not sufficient/adequate even if they are true, but knowing whether they are true or not faces non‐trivial epistemic challenges. The interaction of tunnel boring machines with the rock mass is highly influenced by human, technical and geological factors. Interpretation of geological observations and TBM data is currently done on a subjective basis. Technologies based on Artificial Intelligence research, can be used to automatically classify TBM data into rock mass behaviour types. Albeit first results look promising, any technology poses the threat of malicious use that deliberately harms / benefits one or another party. This paper shows how an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) can be trained to achieve the best possible rock mass behaviour classification, or how such a system can be misused to yield a more optimistic, respectively pessimistic classification to fortify the interests of one party. Summary: In this paper, a new two‐dimensional (2D) fuzzy composite iterative learning fault‐tolerant control strategy using a 2D Takagi‐Sugeno fuzzy model is proposed for batch processes with time delay and actuator faults. Firstly, based on the local‐sector nonlinearity method, a 2D Takagi‐Sugeno fuzzy model representing the nonlinear batch process with actuator faults is constructed with a series of linear models and nonlinear membership functions. Then, a 2D fuzzy feedback control–based iterative learning fault‐tolerant control strategy is proposed under the constructed model. Using the 2D Lyapunov stability theory, sufficient conditions for system asymptotic stability are given. The fault‐tolerant control law is then designed, guaranteeing system asymptotic stability along time and batches even if the system fails. Finally, the traditional control algorithm, the pure iterative learning control algorithm, and the feedback control–based iterative learning control algorithm proposed in this paper are compared on the level control of the three‐tank system, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed method. In this paper, we present a formal model and analysis of the Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA) Advanced High-performance Bus (AHB). The model is given in CSP ∥ B—an integration of the process algebra CSP and the state-based formalism B. We describe the theory behind the integration of CSP and B, and present the model in this theory. Analysis is performed using the model-checker ProB. The main purpose of this paper is to improve the resilience of data center cooling system and reduce the energy consumption in data center by using the Tilted Active Tile (TATs). We deploy multiple TATs in cold aisle environment then analyze the thermal performance of racks. TATs also help to improve the reliability in case of cooling failure by increased ride through time. We observed an extended ride‐through time for data centers deployed with Tilted Active Tiles (TATs) when the CRAC blower failed. Proposed approach can maintain cooling system temperature for up to 10 minutes. We also introduced ANN based thermal models to predict the thermal performance of TATs, To train the ANN models, we collect the rack inlet and CRAC outlet temperature from Data Center. We also fixed blank panel in empty U part of racks and then analyzed that the thermal performance of racks are better and temperature distribution at bottom, middle and top of the rack were same under 30°angle. The airflow of TATs and passive tile influence on surrounding racks. Machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) methods are emerging as promising technologies for enhancing the performance of low‐cost photovoltaic (PV) cells in miniaturized electronic devices. Indeed, ML is set to significantly contribute to the development of more efficient and cost‐effective solar cells. This systematic review offers an extensive analysis of recent ML techniques in designing novel solar cell materials and structures, highlighting their potential to transform the low‐cost solar cell research and development landscape. The review encompasses a variety of ML approaches, such as Gaussian process regression (GPR), Bayesian optimization (BO), and deep neural networks (DNNs), which have proven effective in boosting the efficiency, stability, and affordability of solar cells. The findings of this review indicate that GPR combined with BO is the most promising method for developing low‐cost solar cells. These techniques can significantly speed up the discovery of new PV materials and structures while enhancing the efficiency and stability of low‐cost solar cells. The real-time processing capabilities of cellular neural networks (CNNs) are inherently related to the fast convergence time of the solutions toward the asymptotically stable equilibrium points. A typical requirement is that the settling time should not exceed a few (or at most 10) cell time constants. This paper introduces a class of completely stable nonsymmetric cooperative CNN rings whose solutions display unexpectedly long transient oscillations for a wide set of initial conditions and for a wide set of interconnection parameters. Numerical simulations show that the oscillations can easily last hundreds of cycles, and thousands of cell time constants, before settling to a steady state, thus possibly impairing their real-time processing capabilities. Goal of the paper is also to show, by means of laboratory experiments on a discrete component prototype of the CNN ring, that the long oscillation phenomenon is physically robust with respect to the non-idealities of the circuit implementation. The experiments show some other peculiar features of the long lasting oscillations as the metamorphosis between different periodic behaviors during the transient.
