In our mobile working world, boundaries between work and non‐work domains are more and more blurred, which can impair professionals' recovery and well‐being. Consequently, managing work–non‐work boundaries represents an important challenge for professionals. Research suggests that boundary work tactics conveyed in boundary management interventions may promote recovery and well‐being. However, the efficacy of boundary work tactics is largely unknown, as well as theoretical mechanisms that may explain the effectiveness of boundary management interventions in regard of both training design and training transfer. Building on the social cognitive theory of self‐regulation, we develop a web‐based boundary management training. Based on the integrated training transfer and effectiveness model, we evaluate its effects on the three levels of training effectiveness: (1) perceived learning, (2) cognitions and behaviours, with boundary control and boundary creation as indicators, and (3) recovery and well‐being. Results of our randomized controlled intervention study show several expected changes in boundary creation, suggesting that drawing on the social cognitive theory of self‐regulation for training design can result in effective behaviour change. Intervention effects on recovery and well‐being are more ambiguous, hinting at the power but likewise potential limitations of boundary creation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to investigate sleep‐wake behavior and gain insights into perceived impairment (sleep, fatigue, and cognitive function) of athletes competing in two international multi‐day adventure races. Twenty‐four athletes took part across two independent adventure races: Queensland, Australia and Alaska, USA. Individual sleep periods were determined via actigraphy, and racers self‐reported their perceived sleep disturbances, sleep impairment, fatigue and cognitive function. Each of these indices was calculated for pre‐, during‐ and post‐race periods. Sleep was severely restricted during the race period compared to pre‐race (Queensland, 7:46 [0:29] vs. 2:50 [1:01]; Alaska, 7:39 [0:58] vs. 2:45 [2:05]; mean [SD], hh:mm). As a result, there was a large cumulative sleep debt at race completion, which was not 'reversed' in the post‐race period (up to 1 week). The deterioration in all four self‐reported scales of perceived impairment during the race period was largely restored in the post‐race period. This is the first study to document objective sleep‐wake behaviors and subjective impairment of adventure racers, in the context of two geographically diverse, multi‐day, international adventure races. Measures of sleep deprivation indicate that sleep debt was extreme and did not recover to pre‐race levels within 1 week following each race. Despite this objective debt continuing, perceived impairment returned to pre‐race levels quickly post‐race. Therefore, further examination of actual and perceived sleep recovery is warranted. Adventure racing presents a unique scenario to examine sleep, performance and recovery. Highlights: Adventure, or expedition, racing is an ultra‐endurance sport, carried out over multiple days, which presents an extreme test of athletic performance under conditions of severe sleep restriction and deprivation. However, limited research has been conducted to examine sleep and perceived impairment of athletes who choose this sport.Using actigraphy, the team‐based nature of adventure racing was evident with severe sleep restriction synchronized between team members during the race.There was significant sleep debt accumulated across the race and was not recovered by the end of the measurement period. Introduction: Outcome measurement instruments (OMIs) are used to gauge the effects of treatment. In post‐stroke aphasia rehabilitation, benchmarks for meaningful change are needed to support the interpretation of patient outcomes. This study is part of a research programme to establish minimal important change (MIC) values (the smallest change above which patients perceive themselves as importantly changed) for core OMIs. As a first step in this process, the views of people with aphasia and clinicians were explored, and consensus was sought on a threshold for clinically meaningful change. Methods: Sequential mixed‐methods design was employed. Participants included people with post‐stroke aphasia and speech pathologists. People with aphasia were purposively sampled based on time post‐stroke, age and gender, whereas speech pathologists were sampled according to their work setting (hospital or community). Each participant attended a focus group followed by a consensus workshop with a survey component. Within the focus groups, experiences and methods for measuring meaningful change during aphasia recovery were explored. Qualitative data were transcribed and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. In the consensus workshop, participants voted on thresholds for meaningful change in core outcome constructs of language, communication, emotional well‐being and quality of life, using a six‐point rating scale (much worse, slightly worse, no change, slightly improved, much improved and completely recovered). Consensus was defined a priori as 70% agreement. Voting results were reported using descriptive statistics. Results: Five people with aphasia (n = 4, > 6 months after stroke; n = 5, < 65 years; n = 3, males) and eight speech pathologists (n = 4, hospital setting; n = 4, community setting) participated in one of four focus groups (duration: 92–112 min). Four themes were identified describing meaningful change as follows: (1) different for every single person; (2) small continuous improvements; (3) measured by progress towards personally relevant goals; and (4) influenced by personal factors. 'Slightly improved' was agreed as the threshold of MIC on the anchor‐rating scale (75%–92%) within 6 months of stroke, whereas after 6 months there was a trend towards supporting 'much improved' (36%–66%). Conclusion: Our mixed‐methods research with people with aphasia and speech pathologists provides novel evidence to inform the definition of MIC in aphasia rehabilitation. Future research will aim to establish MIC values for core OMIs. Background: StrokeLine is a stroke‐specific helpline used by stroke survivors and their families in Australia to access professional support. There has been little research exploring stroke survivors' experiences of using helplines and their perceived impact on their stroke recovery. Aim: The aim of this study is to explore the reasons prompting stroke survivors to call StrokeLine and their experiences and to describe the perceived impact of calling StrokeLine on their recovery. Methods: An exploratory descriptive qualitative study was undertaken using thematic analysis of data collected through semi‐structured interviews of stroke survivors between December 2020 and May 2022. Participants were recruited using purposive sampling. Interviews were conducted via audio‐recorded Zoom conference calling and transcribed verbatim for thematic analysis. Results: A total of eight callers (four men and women women) participated, with the time since stroke ranging from 3.5 months to 5 years. Four major themes were identified, including 17 sub‐themes. Key themes included (1) factors prompting use of StrokeLine; (2) experience of using StrokeLine; (3) perceived impact of using StrokeLine; and (4) conceptualising StrokeLine service provision. Conclusions: Participants perceived their experience of contacting StrokeLine as having a positive impact on their stroke recovery, leaving them feeling empowered and motivated to self‐manage their condition. Background: Robotic‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS) can achieve traditional clinical outcomes comparable to those of video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). However, patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) during the early period after RATS and VATS remain unclear. This study aimed to utilize longitudinal electronic PRO (ePRO) assessments to evaluate symptom burden and functional status between these approaches from patients' perspective. Methods: This study comprised patients who underwent lobectomy via RATS or VATS for non‐small cell lung cancer. We collected multiple‐time‐point PROs data from the prospective longitudinal study via an ePRO system. Symptom severity and function status were assessed using the perioperative symptom assessment for patients undergoing lung surgery and were analyzed between groups using linear mixed‐effects models. Results: Of the 164 patients, 42 underwent RATS and 122 underwent VATS. After propensity score matching (PSM), 42 RATS and 84 VATS exhibited similar baseline characteristics. During the 7‐day postoperative period, participants underwent RATS reported milder pain (p = 0.014), coughing (p < 0.001), drowsiness (p = 0.001), and distress (p = 0.045) compared with those underwent VATS. Moreover, participants in RATS group showed less functional interference with walking (p < 0.001) and general activity (p < 0.001). RATS exhibited a shorter postoperative hospitalization (p = 0.021) but higher hospital cost (p < 0.001). Meanwhile, short‐term clinical outcomes of operative time, dissected lymph node stations, chest tube drainage, and postoperative complication rates were comparable. Conclusion: PROs are important metrics for assessing patients' recovery after lobectomy. Compared with VATS, RATS may induce less symptom burden and better functional status for patients in the early postoperative period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of this project was to compare in the field conditions two strategies of re‐nutrition of children with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) aged from 6 to 24 months, targeting the microbiota in comparison with a standard regimen. A three‐arm, open‐label, pragmatic randomised trial was conducted in four countries (Niger, CAR, Senegal and Madagascar). Children received for 12 weeks either fortified blended flour (FBF control) = arm 1, or FBF + azithromycin (oral suspension of 20 mg/kg/day daily given with a syringe) for the first 3 days at inclusion = arm 2 or mix FBF with inulin/fructo‐oligosaccharides (6 g/day if age ≥12 months and 4 g if age <12 months) = arm 3. For each arm, children aged from 6 to 11 months received 100 g x 2 per day of flours and those aged from 12 to 24 months received 100 g × 3 per day of FBF. The primary endpoint was nutritional recovery, defined by reaching a weight‐for‐height z‐score (WHZ) ≥ −1.5 within 12 weeks. Overall, 881 children were randomised (297, 290 and 294 in arm 1, arm 2 and arm 3, respectively). Three hundred and forty‐four children were males (39%) and median/mean age were 14.6/14.4 months (SD = 4.9, IQR = 10.5–18.4). At inclusion, the three arms were comparable for all criteria, but differences were observed between countries. Overall, 44% (390/881) of the children recovered at week 12 from MAM, with no significant difference between the three arms (41.4%, 45.5% and 45.9%, in arm 1, arm 2 and arm 3, respectively, p = 0.47). This study did not support the true advantages of adding a prebiotic or antibiotic to flour. When using a threshold of WHZ ≥ −2 as an exploratory endpoint, significant differences were observed between the three arms, with higher success rates in arms with antibiotics or prebiotics compared to the control arm (66.9%, 66.0% and 55.2%, respectively, p = 0.005). Key messages: Re‐nutrition of children with MAM is still a concern as the duration of recovery is always long and recurrences are frequent.Literature suggests that prebiotics and antibiotics show potentially useful properties to speed this process of recovery.However, in this open‐label study, prebiotics and antibiotics did not lead to advantages on the recovery rates defined by reaching the WHZ (−1.5) cut‐off. Age and sex influence the risk of childhood wasting. We aimed to determine if wasting treatment outcomes differ by age and sex in children under 5 years, enroled in therapeutic and supplementary feeding programmes. Utilising data from stage 1 of the ComPAS trial, we used logistic regression to assess the association between age, sex and wasting treatment outcomes (recovery, death, default, non‐response, and transfer), modelling the likelihood of recovery versus all other outcomes. We used linear regression to calculate differences in mean length of stay (LOS) and mean daily weight gain by age and sex. Data from 6929 children from Kenya, Chad, Yemen and South Sudan was analysed. Girls in therapeutic feeding programmes were less likely to recover than boys (pooled odds ratio [OR]: 0.84, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.72–0.97, p = 0.018). This association was statistically significant in Chad (OR: 0.61, 95% CI: 0.39–0.95, p = 0.030) and Yemen (OR: 0.47, 95% CI: 0.27–0.81, p = 0.006), but not in Kenya and South Sudan. Multinomial analysis, however, showed no difference in recovery between sexes. There was no difference between sexes for LOS, but older children (24–59 months) had a shorter mean LOS than younger children (6–23 months). Mean daily weight gain was consistently lower in boys compared with girls. We found few differences in wasting treatment outcomes by sex and age. The results do not indicate a need to change current programme inclusion requirements or treatment protocols on the basis of sex or age, but future research in other settings should continue to investigate the aetiology of differences in recovery and implications for treatment protocols. Key messages: There are few differences in recovery outcomes for wasting treatment by age and sex.Though differences are small, mean daily weight gain (g/kg/day) appears to be significantly lower in boys than girls. Likewise, though differences are small, younger children (6–23 months) often have a significantly longer mean length of stay compared with older children (24–59 months).The strength of our evidence does not indicate the need to change current inclusion criteria for wasting treatment programmes on the basis of age and sex but does suggest the need for further research to understand the effects of different confounders on treatment outcomes. Pressure ulcers are a common complication of prone orthopaedic surgery, causing pain and inconvenience to patients. This study aimed to evaluate a comprehensive nursing intervention for pressure ulcer formation in these patients. A total of 120 patients undergoing prone orthopaedic surgery were randomly divided into two groups. The study group (60 patients) received a comprehensive nursing intervention, whereas the control group (60 patients) received a routine nursing intervention. After 2 weeks, the comprehensive nursing intervention significantly reduced the incidence and degree of pressure sores and led to a shorter recovery time than the routine nursing intervention (p < 0.05). The incidence of postoperative wound complications was decreased, and patient satisfaction was significantly improved (p < 0.05). The Hamilton Anxiety Scale, Hamilton Depression Scale and visual analogue scale scores of the study group were significantly lower than those of the control group, and the Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire scores were higher than those of the control group (p < 0.05). A comprehensive nursing intervention can significantly reduce the incidence and degree of pressure ulcers, accelerate recovery time, reduce postoperative wound complications and improve the quality of life and satisfaction of patients undergoing prone orthopaedic surgery. To develop and validate the Insomnia in Response to Sports‐related Stress Test (IRSST) questionnaire, a new specific instrument with the goal of sensitively measuring vulnerability to sport‐specific stressful situations among elite athletes. Five hundred and thirty‐one competitive elite athletes (mean age = 17.6 ± 4.4 years) completed the Ford Insomnia Response to Stress Test (FIRST) questionnaire and the IRSST, a six‐item questionnaire developed to assess the level of sleep disturbance in response to the commonly experienced sport‐specific stressful situations. A development and validation process including substantive, structural, and external stages was used in the present study. One eigenvalue of the exploratory factor analyses was greater than 1.0 (i.e., 2.91, 48.52% of explained variance) whereas the scree test provided evidence for a one‐factor solution, with all the six items achieving a loading of 0.40 or higher on the factor. Cronbach alpha was 0.77 and provided evidence for the reliability of the IRSST score. The correlation between IRSST and FIRST scores was 0.47 (p < 0.001, moderate effect size). These results provide strong evidence for construct validity, indicating that the IRSST is a promising scale for assessing the likelihood of sleep disruption due to sports‐related stressful situations. The results of reliability and correlational analyses provided further evidence of the promising psychometric properties of the IRSST. We believe that the IRSST could provide to the sport and sleep science communities a sleep screening tool for use in this unique population. Background: The ability to self‐advocate or have a say in one's care is integral to personalised care after acquired brain injury (ABI). This study aimed to understand what constitutes self‐advocacy and associated barriers and facilitators throughout hospital transitions and into the community. Method: Qualitative methodology was employed with semistructured interviews conducted with 12 people with ABI and 13 family members. Interviews were conducted at predischarge (in‐person or via telephone) and 4 months postdischarge (via telephone) from the brain injury rehabilitation unit of a tertiary hospital. Data were thematically analysed using a hybrid deductive–inductive approach. Results: Self‐advocacy reflects the process of reclaiming agency or people's efforts to exert influence over care decisions after ABI. Agency varies along a continuum, often beginning with impaired processing of the self or environment (loss of agency) before individuals start to understand and question their care (emerging agency) and ultimately plan and direct their ongoing and future care (striving for agency). This process may vary across individuals and contexts. Barriers to self‐advocacy for individuals with ABI include neurocognitive deficits that limit capacity and desire for control over decisions, unfamiliar and highly structured environments and lack of family support. Facilitators include neurocognitive recovery, growing desire to self‐advocate and scaffolded support from family and clinicians. Conclusion: Self‐advocacy after ABI entails a process of reclaiming agency whereby individuals seek to understand, question and direct their ongoing care. This is facilitated by neurocognitive recovery, growing capacity and desire and scaffolded supports. Research evaluating approaches for embedding self‐advocacy skills early in brain injury rehabilitation is recommended. Introduction: Many people with mental health issues recover and re‐establish their identity and find hope and meaning in life, irrespective of symptom burden. Recovery can be supported through learning and education, aiming at strengthening self‐management and coping skills. Such education offered by peers with lived experience is rare and scarcely reported. The aim was to assess the perceived value of an educational intervention, called the Patient School (PS), organized within a psychiatry organization by employed patient peers with lived experience. Methods: A qualitative case study based on interviews with people with mental health issues (n = 8), peer‐organizers (n = 4) and healthcare professionals (n = 4), and documents such as schedules and educational materials were used. First, the interviews were transcribed and analyzed using inductive conventional content analysis. Second, the findings were synthesized into a programme theory, illustrated in a logic model. Results: The perceived value of the PS was related to the willingness of peer‐organizers to share their own experiences, a sense of belonging, sharing with like‐minded and new knowledge, practical skills, roles and attitudes acquired. These experiences were empowering, decreased stigma and reassured user participants that one's identity is not defined by mental health issues. This increased self‐confidence paves the way for increased self‐management and creates a potential for a more efficient use of healthcare services. Conclusion: We conclude that this PS, organized within a psychiatry organization by salaried peers, achieved the same positive results as those reported in the literature and showed the value of having peer‐organizers being part of the staff. The research plan was co‐designed, and the analysis of the data collected was performed in collaboration. Research acknowledges Sports‐Related Concussion (SRC) is acutely deleterious to academic ability, but no tool has been validated to measure the effect of SRC on academic ability. The sutdy aimed to establish if the Revised Perceived Academic Impact Tool (PAIT2) is reliable and valid for assessing academic impairment following an SRC. Non‐concussed, healthy student‐athletes in higher education were recruited to the control group and completed the PAIT2 at day 0, 2, 4, 8, 14 and 19. The concussed group consisted of higher education student‐athletes participating in rugby union. The concussed group completed the PAIT2 at baseline screening during pre‐season, day 2, 4, 8 and 14 following an SRC and at return‐to‐play. The PAIT2 asks participants to rate their perceived ability on 23 academic tasks on a statement scored on a 0–6 Likert scale. Repeated measurements from the healthy group (n = 25) demonstrated PAIT2 has good internal validity (χ2(25) = 2.128 and p = 0.712) and reliability (0.880 [95% CI: 0.785–0.941]). A change of 4.631 (80% CI) can be used to indicate if academic impairment is present following an SRC. PAIT2 identified 96% of concussed student‐athletes with academic impairment at day 2, 92% at day 4, 85.71% at day 8 and 92% at day 14 and 19. PAIT2 has good reliability and internal validity for detecting those with academic impairment following SRC. The use of this tool may be of assistance to clinicians when managing student‐athletes return to learn. Highlights: No previous studies have used an assessment tool to measure perceived academic ability during the acute phase of a Sports‐Related Concussion (SRC). The Revised Perceived Academic Impairment Tool (PAIT2) may fill this void but has not been validated or its reliability established.The concussed group had significantly worse self‐perceived academic performance at day 2, but not by day 4, indicating perceived academic ability recovers by 4 days following an SRC.The PAIT2 had good validity and reliability and was able to detect 96.00%, 92.00% and 85.71% of concussed student‐athletes with academic impairment at day 2, 4, 8 and 14 days post‐SRC.Other measures, such as academic time loss or the Immediate Post Concussion Test, were not superior for detecting academic impairment, but the use of this with PAIT2 was superior for ruling out academic impairment rather than just the PAIT2. Preservation and restoration of hand function after burn injuries are challenging yet imperative. This study aimed to assess the curative effect of a composite skin graft over an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and a thick split‐thickness skin graft (STSG) for treating deep burns on the hand. Patients who met the inclusion criteria at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between September 2011 and January 2020 were retrospectively identified from the operative register. We investigated patient characteristics, time from operation to the start of active motion exercise, take rates of skin graft 7 days post‐surgery, donor site recovery, complications and days to complete healing. Patients were followed up for 12 months to evaluate scar quality using the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) and hand function through total active motion (TAM) and the Jebsen–Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT). A total of 38 patients (52 hands) who received thin STSG on top of the ADM or thick STSG were included. The location of the donor sites was significantly different between Group A (thick STSG) and Group B (thin STSG + ADM) (p = 0.03). There were no statistical differences in age, gender, underlying disease, cause of burn, burn area, dominant hand, patients with two hands operated on and time from burn to surgery between the two groups (p > 0.05). The time from operation to the start of active motion exercise, take rates of skin graft 7 days post‐surgery and days to complete healing were not significantly different between Group A and Group B (p > 0.05). The rate of donor sites requiring skin grafting was lower in Group B than in Group A (22.2% vs. 100%, p < 0.001). There were no statistically significant differences in complications between the groups (p = 0.12). Moreover, 12 months postoperatively, the pliability subscore in the VSS was significantly lower in Group A than in Group B (p = 0.01). However, there were no statistically significant differences in vascularity (p = 0.42), pigmentation (p = 0.31) and height subscores (p = 0.13). The TAM and JTHFT results revealed no statistically significant differences between the two groups (p = 0.22 and 0.06, respectively). The ADM combined with thin STSG is a valuable approach for treating deep and extensive hand burns with low donor site morbidity. Context: Best practice guidelines for the recovery and return to work (RTW) of people with mental disorders recommend access to the services of an interdisciplinary team combining pharmacological, psychological and work rehabilitation interventions. In the Canadian context, primary healthcare services are responsible for providing these services for people with common mental disorders, such as depressive or anxiety disorders. However, not everyone has easy access to these recommended primary healthcare services, and previous studies suggest that multiple personal, practice‐related and organizational factors can influence the patient's journey. Moreover, previous studies documented that family physicians often work in silos and lack the knowledge and time needed to effectively manage by themselves patients' occupational health. Thus, the care and service trajectories of these patients are often suboptimal and can have important consequences on the person's recovery and RTW. Objective and Population Studied: Our study aimed to gain a better understanding of the patient journeys and the factors influencing their access to and experience with primary healthcare services while they were on sick leave due to a common mental disorder. Methods: A descriptive qualitative research design was used to understand and describe these factors. Conventional content analysis was used to analyze the verbatim. Results: Five themes describe the main factors that influenced the patient's journey of the 14 participants of this study: (1) the fragmented interventions provided by family physicians; (2) patients' autonomy in managing their own care; (3) the attitude and case management provided by the insurer, (4) the employer's openness and understanding and (5) the match between the person's needs and their access to psychosocial and rehabilitation services. Conclusions: Our findings highlight important gaps in the collaborative practices surrounding the management of mental health‐related sick leave, the coordination of primary healthcare services and the access to work rehabilitation services. Occupational therapists and other professionals can support family physicians in managing sick leaves, strengthen interprofessional and intersectoral collaboration and ensure that patients receive needed services in a timelier manner no matter their insurance coverage or financial needs. Background: Following stroke, a sense of well‐being is critical for quality of life. However, people living with stroke, and health professionals, suggest that well‐being is not sufficiently addressed within stroke services, contributing to persistent unmet needs. Knowing that systems and structures shape clinical practice, this study sought to understand how health professionals address well‐being, and to examine how the practice context influences care practice. Methods: Underpinned by Interpretive Description methodology, we interviewed 28 health professionals across multiple disciplines working in stroke services (acute and rehabilitation) throughout New Zealand. Data were analysed using applied tension analysis. Results: Health professionals are managing multiple lines of work in stroke care: biomedical work of investigation, intervention and prevention; clinical work of assessment, monitoring and treatment; and moving people through service. While participants reported working to support well‐being, this could be deprioritised amidst the time‐oriented pressures of the other lines of work that were privileged within services, rendering it unsupported and invisible. Conclusion: Stroke care is shaped by biomedical and organisational imperatives that privilege physical recovery and patient throughput. Health professionals are not provided with the knowledge, skills, time or culture of care that enable them to privilege well‐being within their work. This has implications for the well‐being of people with stroke, and the well‐being of health professionals. In making these discourses and culture visible, and tracing how these impact on clinical practice, we hope to provide insight into why well‐being work remains other to the 'core' work of stroke, and what needs to be considered if stroke services are to better support people's well‐being. Background: This paper aims to explore the impact of recovery education on recovery knowledge, attitudes and the quality of life of students undertaking recovery education, contributing to the evidence base in relation to the impact of recovery education. It also explores the experiences of all stakeholders involved in the co‐facilitation, delivery and participation in recovery education. Setting and Participants: This study evaluates the experiences of stakeholders involved in the co‐facilitation, delivery and participation in recovery education across four recovery colleges in Ireland. Participants included students undertaking recovery education, peer educators, education facilitators, recovery college coordinators and practitioner/service providers. Discussion: Findings from the quantitative survey when compared with extant literature suggest that students had a good understanding of recovery education. The social aspect of empowerment for growth and wellbeing was identified through themes relating to co‐production and facilitating student learning. Support for equitable access to recovery education, including co‐production for both the public and staff, was identified as a challenge for the future. Conclusion: The findings from both the qualitative and quantitative components of the study show the positive impact of recovery education on stakeholders while acknowledging the need for ongoing support for people working in recovery education and the development of services. In particular, there was a high level of recovery knowledge found in students undertaking recovery education. Patient or Public Contribution: This study utilised a co‐created study design. Background: Diagnosing myocarditis in children presenting with complete AV block (CAVB) is challenging. Temporary permanent pacing support using standard transvenous active fixation lead can be inserted percutaneously until recovery. However, access to cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging may be limited due to safety concerns. Cases: We report three cases where CMR was performed using temporary permanent pacemaker in situ. We evaluated the effect of device artefacts on image quality and examined any instances of device malfunction. Conclusion: In children with CAVB and myocarditis, a temporary permanent pacemaker can provide reliable pacing until recovery, and CMR can be safely performed with the implanted pacemaker without compromising image quality. Due to the high risks of postoperative complications brought on by gastric cancer, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a commonly used therapy, has exerted its vital role in postoperative recovery care. In this sense, this meta‐analysis was conducted to explore the related documents about TCM's impact on gastric cancer postoperative recovery. During the research, we explored a total of 1549 results from databases PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science (WoS). Thirty‐two clinical randomized trials (RCTs) were then selected and analysed for this meta‐analysis by using the software RevMan 5.4 (under PRISMA 2020 regulations), with a population of 3178 patients. Data prove that TCM therapy reduced the risks for postoperative complications exposure by an estimated average of 19% (95% CI). Among the complications, TCM therapy suppressed the risks of wound infection and incisional infections by 53% and 48% respectively. Meanwhile, the patient's wound healing duration exhibited a significant reduction compared to those without TCM treatment, with a difference at around 0.74 days (95% CI). TCM also exerted its potential to strengthen the patient's immune and health conditions, leading to a significantly promoted gastrointestinal function in the patients with a shorter duration to release first exhaustion and defecation compared to those with no TCM therapy. In addition, similar promoted phenomena also exist in those patients with TCM therapy in terms of their immunity and nutritional conditions. The most prevalent form of cardiac arrhythmia is atrial fibrillation (AF), which is typically managed through catheter ablation or anti‐arrhythmic drug therapy. We compared the incidence and outcomes of wound complications in patients with atrial fibrillation who were treated with catheter ablation as opposed to anti‐arrhythmic drug therapy. From May to November 2023, 240 adult AF patients who were treated with catheter ablation or anti‐arrhythmic medications participated in a 6‐month retrospective cohort study at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou, China. An observation was made regarding 29 wound complications out of 240 patients. In comparison to drug therapy group, incidence of minor (8 vs. 11) and total complications (18 vs. 11) was greater in catheter ablation group. Significant adverse events occurred at higher rate in the catheter ablation group (6 versus 1) (p < 0.05). However, despite these patterns, there was no statistically significant difference in the rates of complications (total: p = 0.245; minor: p = 0.217; major: p = 0.128). Comparable treatment efficacy was observed across groups. In contrast to drug therapy, catheter ablation was associated with decreased probability of complications (odds ratio: 0.86), as determined by logistic regression; cardiac failure was a significant predictor of adverse outcomes. The study concluded that the risks of wound complications associated with catheter ablation and anti‐arrhythmic drug therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation are comparable. Echocardiographic guidance in left atrial appendage (LAA) closure procedures is increasingly recognized for its potential to enhance patient outcomes in atrial fibrillation (AF). This retrospective study assesses its impact on hospital stay duration, readmission rates and surgical site wound complications in 200 AF patients. Divided equally into an echocardiographically guided group (Group E) and a non‐guided group (Group N), the analysis focused on detailed patient data encompassing hospital stay, 30‐day readmission and wound complications. Findings revealed that Group E experienced a significantly shorter average hospital stay of 3.5 days, compared with 6.5 days in Group N, along with a lower 30‐day readmission rate (5% vs. 18% in Group N). Furthermore, Group E showed a considerable reduction in surgical site wound complications, such as infections and hematomas. The study concludes that echocardiographic guidance in LAA closure procedures markedly improves postoperative wound outcomes, underscoring its potential as a standard practice in cardiac surgeries for AF patients. This study comprehensively compared the effects of laparoscopic and open radical cystectomies on postoperative wound infections and complications in patients with bladder cancer. We conducted a systematic search for relevant studies in PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases, from database inception to October 2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and assessed the quality based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using Stata 17.0 software. Overall, 16 studies involving 1427 patients with bladder cancer were included. The analysis revealed that, compared with open radical cystectomy, laparoscopic radical cystectomy significantly reduced the incidence of wound infections (odds ratio [OR] = 0.38, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.23–0.64, p < 0.001) and complications (OR = 0.35, 95%CI: 0.26–0.47, p < 0.001) and significantly shortened the hospital stay duration (standardised mean difference [SMD] = −1.85, 95%CI: −2.34 to −1.36, p < 0.001). Thus, this study determined that laparoscopic radical cystectomy for the treatment of bladder cancer effectively reduced the occurrence of wound infections and complications, and significantly shortened the patient's hospital stay, demonstrating notable therapeutic effectiveness worthy of clinical application. This systematic review and meta‐analysis evaluate the impact of ultrasound‐guided subsheath versus extrasheath sciatic nerve blocks on postoperative wound pain in tibial and foot surgeries, crucial for effective pain management and patient recovery. Adhering to PRISMA guidelines, this study used a PICO framework, focusing on patients undergoing tibial and foot surgeries and comparing the efficacy and safety of subsheath and extrasheath sciatic nerve blocks. The literature search spanned four databases without time restrictions, assessing various outcomes like success rate, onset time, duration of analgesia and complication rates. Quality assessment employed the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool, and statistical analyses included heterogeneity assessment, fixed‐effect and random‐effects models, sensitivity analysis and publication bias evaluation using funnel plots and Egger's linear regression test. From an initial pool of 1213 articles, six met the inclusion criteria. The subsheath group showed a significantly higher success rate of complete sensory blockade within 30 min compared with the extrasheath group (OR = 5.39; 95% CI: 2.82–10.28; p < 0.01). No significant differences were found in procedure duration or incidence of nerve‐related complications between the two techniques. The subsheath approach also demonstrated a quicker onset time of sensory blockade (MD = −8.57; 95% CI: −11.27 to −5.88; p < 0.01). Sensitivity analysis confirmed the stability of the results, and no significant publication bias was detected. Ultrasound‐guided subsheath sciatic nerve blocks are more effective than extrasheath blocks in achieving rapid and complete sensory blockade for tibial and foot surgeries, with a quicker onset time and comparable safety profile. Subsheath injections are thus recommended as a preferred method for anaesthesia and postoperative pain management in these surgical procedures, enhancing overall patient outcomes. To systematically search and synthesise available literature on barriers and enablers to evidence‐based care for patients with laparotomy wounds reported by acute care nurses. Specifically, we focused on wound assessment, infection control techniques, wound products used, escalation of care, dressing application, documentation and holistic care. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta‐Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews Checklist and explanation documents directed the review. The methodology framework created by Arksey and O'Malley, updated by Levac et al., and the Joanna Briggs Institute were utilised to assist the scoping review process. Data synthesis was guided by the Theoretical Domains Framework. Six qualitative and mixed methods studies were selected for the review. Most reported barriers and enablers were mapped to knowledge, skills, beliefs about consequences, environmental context and resources and beliefs about capability domains. The main barriers were limited access to and utilisation of wound assessment tools and clinical practice guidelines for wound management and suboptimal time management skills. Inconsistent management of laparotomy wounds was related to ward culture and nurses' lack of knowledge and skills in surgical wound assessment and aseptic technique during wound encounters. The reported enablers were knowledge of multi‐factorial risk factors for surgical wound recovery, valuing education and reflective practice and believing that protocols should be utilised alongside comprehensive wound assessments. Holistic wound care included patient education on the role of mobilisation and nutrition in wound healing. Acute care nurses do not routinely incorporate comprehensive, evidence‐based care recommendations for laparotomy wound management. Further research on evidence‐based care behaviours in managing laparotomy wounds is required. Burn injuries result in localised tissue damage and precipitate systemic responses; routine clinical treatments, which typically include metabolic nutritional support and anti‐infection therapies, do not yield optimal outcomes. Therefore, we aimed to systematically evaluate the effects of ulinastatin on wound infection and healing in patients with burns to provide reliable evidence‐based recommendations for burn treatment. An electronic search of the Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Wanfang, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases, supplemented by manual searches, was conducted from database inception to October 2023 to collect randomised controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the efficacy of ulinastatin for the treatment of burns. Two researchers screened all retrieved articles according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria; the included studies were evaluated for quality, and the relevant data were extracted. Stata 17.0 software was employed for data analysis. Overall, 8 RCTs with 803 patients were included, with 404 and 399 in the ulinastatin and conventional treatment groups, respectively. The analysis revealed that wound infections (odds ratio [OR] = 0.08, 95% CI: 0.02–0.35, p = 0.001) and complications (OR = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.10–0.42, p < 0.001) were significantly lower, and wound healing time (standardised mean differences [SMD] = −1.31, 95% CI: −2.05 to −0.57, p = 0.001) was significantly shorter, in the ulinastatin groups than in the control group. This meta‐analysis revealed that ulinastatin can effectively reduce the incidence of wound infections and complications and significantly shorten the duration of wound healing in patients with burns, thereby promoting early recovery in these patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of perioperative application of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) concepts on wound infections and post‐operative complications in patients receiving orthopaedic surgery, to provide a theoretical basis for post‐operative care. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on the application of ERAS to patients receiving orthopaedic surgery, published up to October 2023, were identified in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, Wanfang, China Biomedical Literature Database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. Literature was screened and evaluated by two reviewers based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and data were extracted from the final included articles. Data were analysed using RevMan 5.4 software. A total of 20 RCTs were included in the analysis, which included 1875 patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery, of whom 938 and 937 were in the ERAS and control groups, respectively. The analysis revealed that in patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery, implementation of ERAS in the perioperative period was associated with a significantly reduced the rate of wound infections (1.6% vs. 6.19%, risk ratio [RR]: 0.30, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.18–0.50, p < 0.001) and complication (5.12% vs. 21.88%, RR: 0.23, 95% CI: 0.17–0.32, p < 0.001) and can effectively shorten the hospital length of stay (standardised mean difference [SMD]: −2.50 days, 95% CI: −3.17 to −1.83 days, p < 0.001) compared with that of conventional care. The available evidence suggests that the implementation of ERAS in the perioperative period of patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery could effectively reduce the rate of wound infections and complications, shorten the hospital length of stay and promote the early recovery of patients. To comprehensively evaluate the effect of accelerated rehabilitation surgical care on perioperative wound infections and complications in patients undergoing lung cancer surgery. A comprehensive computerised search for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of accelerated rehabilitative surgical care applied to patients undergoing lung cancer surgery was conducted using the Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases from inception to September 2023. The literature was screened and evaluated by two investigators, and data were extracted from the final included literature. Stata software (version 17.0) was used for data analysis. Overall, 21 RCTs involving 2187 patients were included, including 1093 cases in the accelerated rehabilitation surgical care group and 1094 cases in the conventional care group. The analyses revealed that patients with lung cancer surgery who implemented accelerated rehabilitation surgical care were significantly less likely to develop postoperative wound infections (odds ratio [OR] = 0.29, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.17–0.49, p < 0.001) and postoperative complications (OR = 0.26, 95% CI: 0.20–0.34, p < 0.001) and shortened the hospital length of stay (standardised mean differences [SMD] = −1.93, 95% CI: −2.32 to −1.53, and p < 0.001) compared with conventional care. The effect of accelerated rehabilitation surgical care intervention in the perioperative period of lung cancer surgery patients is remarkable, as it can effectively reduce the incidence of wound infection and complications, shorten hospitalisation time and promote patient recovery. Peripheral nerve injuries often result in severe personal and social burden, and even with surgical treatment, patients continue to have poor clinical outcomes. Over the past two decades, electrical stimulation has been shown to promote axonal regeneration and alleviate refractory neuropathic pain. The aim of this study was to analyse this field using a bibliometric approach. Literature was searched through Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) for the years 2002–2023. Literature analysis included: (1) Describing publication trends in the field. (2) Exploring collaborative network relationships. (3) Finding research advances and research hotspots in the field. (4) Summarizing research trends in the field. With the number of studies in this field still increasing, a total of 693 publications were included in the analysis. This field of research is interdisciplinary in nature. Research hotspots include peripheral nerve regeneration, the treatment of neuropathic pain, materials for nerve injury repair, and the restoration of sensory function in patients with peripheral nerve injury. Correspondingly, the development of nerve conduits and systems for peripheral nerve electrical stimulation, clinical trials of peripheral nerve electrical stimulation, and tactile recovery and movement for amputees have shown significant promise as future research trends in this field. Bladder cancer is a highly prevalent malignancy that presents significant difficulties in the management of wounds following surgery. The present study investigated the critical necessity to optimize wound healing techniques in patients undergoing bladder cancer surgery by contrasting conventional approaches with advanced modalities in order to promote recovery and mitigate complications. The study assessed the efficacy of conventional and advanced wound healing methods in these patients, taking into account the complex interaction of patient‐specific factors and surgical complexities. A cross‐sectional analysis was performed on 120 patients who underwent bladder cancer surgery at the first affiliated hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. In addition to medical record evaluations and direct wound assessments, patient interviews were utilized to gather information regarding demographics, surgical specifics, wound healing methodologies and postoperative results. Survival analysis and logistic regression were utilized in statistical analysis, with potential confounding variables such as age, comorbidities and type of surgery being accounted for. Advanced wound healing techniques, such as negative pressure wound therapy, tissue‐engineered products, bioactive dressings and platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), exhibited distinct advantage in comparison with conventional suturing. The aforementioned techniques, especially PRP, resulted in expedited wound healing, decreased rates of complications (p < 0.05) and enhanced secondary outcomes, including curtailed hospital stays and decreased rates of readmissions. PRP therapy, in particular, demonstrated significant improvements with the faster mean time to wound healing of 9 ± 2 days and lower complication incidence of 2 (6.7%) (p < 0.05), indicating its superior efficacy. A subgroup analysis revealed that younger patients, males and those undergoing laparoscopic surgery exhibited superior outcomes (p < 0.05). The results were further supported by logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards models, which further indicated that sophisticated techniques, notably PRP therapy with a hazard ratio of 3.00 (2.00–4.50) and adjusted odds ratio of 0.20 (0.09–0.43), were effective in improving postoperative recovery. The research clarified the significant advantages that advanced wound healing techniques offered in postoperative care of patients diagnosed with bladder cancer. By customizing these methods to suit the unique requirements of individual patients and specific circumstances of surgical procedures, they can significantly enhance the recuperation process after surgery and set a new standard for patient care. An area of increasing interest continues to be the interaction between music therapy and its impacts on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and wound repair in patients who have experienced trauma. This study intended to quantify the effect of music therapy on ANS regulation and wound healing. A cross‐sectional observational study from March to December 2023 was undertaken involving 500 trauma patients. A control group received standard care, and an experimental group received daily 30‐min music therapy sessions. Heart rate variability (HRV), cortisol levels, wound healing rates and patient‐reported outcomes regarding pain, tension and well‐being were among the critical parameters assessed. After 1 month, the experimental group exhibited a statistically significant rise in HRV (p < 0.05), suggesting increased parasympathetic activity. The experimental group exhibited a significant decrease in cortisol levels in comparison to the control group, with notable reduction observed after 1 month (p < 0.05). At 9 months, the experimental group exhibited significantly faster wound healing than the control group, with 85% wound recovery as opposed to 75% in control group. There was notable decrease in pain and stress scores at all time intervals in the music therapy group, with the greatest reduction occurring at the 9‐month mark (p < 0.05). A significant positive correlation (p < 0.05) was identified between the number of completed music therapy sessions and patient outcomes, with individuals attending more than 20 sessions experiencing 33.6% positive outcomes. In trauma patients, music therapy substantially enhanced ANS regulation and accelerated wound healing. As evidenced by the elevated HRV and decreased cortisol levels, the therapy induced a physiologically tranquil state that is conducive to recovery. The considerable enhancements in the rates of wound healing, in conjunction with the substantial decreases in pain and tension levels, highlighted the therapeutic capacity of music therapy as intervention in trauma care. Burn survivors experience profound physiological changes following injury, which may have lasting implications for cardiovascular health. This study aims to investigate the cardiovascular risk profile among burn survivors treated at a burn center in northern Iran. This observational study was conducted from 2022 to 2023 at the burn centre affiliated with Guilan University of Medical Sciences, Rasht, Iran. This study assessed a cohort study of 210 burn survivors, focusing on individuals with ≥20% TBSA burn injuries who had recovered and returned to their daily lives. This study assessed patients' lipid profiles, Framingham General Cardiovascular Risk Score (FGCRS) and risk factors, including demographics, clinical variables and physical activity. Statistical analysis employed descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean age was 49.23 years, and the mean TBSA burned was 37.06%. The risk of cardiovascular disease in 66% of the study population was less than 10%, and in 13%, it was more than 20%. Significant associations were identified between CVD risk and sex, diabetes, hypertension, BMI, TBSA burned, years after burn, physical activity level and LDL. Of the lipid profile measures, LDL, triglycerides and TC/HDL exceeded the desirable levels. This research highlights the heightened cardiovascular risk in burn survivors, emphasizing the necessity for targeted interventions and regular monitoring. Identifying modifiable risk factors enables healthcare practitioners to develop tailored strategies, enhancing cardiovascular health in this vulnerable population and improving overall outcomes and quality of life. Complex fractures present significant challenges in orthopaedic surgery, particularly in terms of postoperative wound healing. Nutritional status plays a crucial role in the recovery process, with early nutritional support potentially influencing wound healing outcomes. This meta‐analysis aimed to assess the impact of early nutritional interventions on postoperative wound healing and scar formation in patients with complex fractures. From an initial pool of 1742 articles, 7 studies were selected for analysis. The results revealed that preoperative nutritional support significantly improved early wound healing, as indicated by lower REEDA scores (SMD = −14.06, 95% CI: [−16.79, −11.32], p < 0.01) 1 week post‐surgery. Furthermore, there was a notable reduction in scar formation, as demonstrated by lower Manchester Scar Scale scores (SMD = −25.03, 95% CI: [−30.32, −19.74], p < 0.01) 3 months post‐surgery. Foot infections, sores or deep tissue damage from diabetes can be a serious psychological and physical injury. This paper aims at making meta‐analyses on the therapeutic effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) on diabetic foot ulcers. The Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database, Wanfang Database and so on, has conducted a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the clinical effect of TCM soaking method for diabetes patients with diabetes. Literature has been determined to be included by computer search and by hand rough checks. The search period was from the creation of the database to October 2023. Review Manager 5.3 was used to analyse the meta data and evaluate it systematically. Altogether, 479 research was conducted in China's data base and 20 of them were eventually collected for the final statistical analysis. In all, 1361 patients were enrolled in the trials. The results indicated that TCM immersion in diabetic foot resulted in significantly improved obvious wound healing (OR, 3.2; 95% CI, 2.5, 4.09, p < 0.0001); results showed that TCM immersion therapy significantly increased the efficiency of effective wound healing (OR, 4.55; 95% CI, 3.25, 6.37, p < 0.001). Statistical significance was found. Using Egger's approach to detect publishing bias suggests that there is no risk of publishing bias in terms of marked wound healing and effective healing. This meta‐analysis aimed to explore the effects of quality nursing intervention on wound healing in patients with burns. A computerised search was conducted for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on the effect of quality nursing intervention on wound healing in patients with burns in the PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang databases from the date of database inception to November 2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data and performed quality assessment based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Stata 17.0 software was used for the data analysis. Twenty‐nine RCTs involving 2637 patients with burns were included. The meta‐analysis revealed that compared with conventional nursing, the implementation of quality nursing intervention in patients with burns significantly shortened the wound healing time (standardised mean difference [SMD] = −2.93, 95% confidence interval [CI]: −3.44 to −2.42, p < 0.001). The incidence of wound infections (odds ratio [OR] = 0.14, 95% CI: 0.07–0.27, p < 0.001) and complications (OR = 0.16, 95% CI: 0.11–0.23, p < 0.001) was also reduced significantly. This meta‐analysis shows that applying quality nursing interventions in patients with burns can significantly shorten the wound healing time and reduce the incidence of wound infection and complications, thus promoting early patient recovery. In recent years, the relationship between intestinal flora and post‐operative recovery, particularly in colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery patients, it has been hypothesized that intestinal flora stability influences wound healing, reduces complications and improves overall recovery outcomes after surgical interventions. This study examined the relationship between intestinal flora stability and post‐operative recovery in patients undergoing CRC surgery. Between May 2020 and 2023, 80 CRC patients from our hospital's Colorectal Surgery Department were enrolled. A random number table was used to divide them into two categories. Both groups were subjected to distinct gastrointestinal preparation protocols. Indicators of clinical therapeutic effect, intestinal flora balance following surgery, post‐operative complications and quality of life were evaluated. The observation group, which adhered to a distinct gastrointestinal regimen, demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in post‐operative outcomes, with a clinical effectiveness rate of 97.5% compared to the control group's 75%. In addition, the observation group had a lower incidence of intestinal flora imbalance following surgery than the control group. The observation group had lower incidences of intestinal obstruction, infection, anastomotic leakage, incisional tumour implantation and delayed diarrhoea. Using the KPS score and the BMI, post‐treatment assessments of the observation group's quality of life revealed significant enhancements in comparison to the control group. Additionally, wound healing rates were superior in the observation group, with a correlation between stable intestinal flora and decreased wound infection rates. The type of post‐operative diet influenced the stabilization of the gut flora, with a high‐fibre diet producing superior results in both groups. The stability of intestinal flora influences the post‐operative rehabilitation of patients undergoing CRC surgery favourably. As medical technology continues to evolve, it becomes crucial to distinguish the outcomes of traditional versus modern surgical techniques. This was a retrospective cohort study, conducted to compare the wound infection rates and recovery outcomes between laparoscopic and open surgery (OS) in 180 patients. Participants were divided into laparoscopic (n = 105) and OS (n = 75) groups. Comprehensive data, including demographics, surgical details, and postoperative outcomes, were extracted. Wound infection rates, as measured by Wound Asepsis Score, were prioritized alongside recovery indicators such as duration of hospital stay and postoperative pain. The laparoscopic group had a mean operative time of 57.19 minutes, while the OS group required 85.10 ± 15.18 minutes (p < 0.05). Laparoscopic surgeries resulted in an average blood loss of 120.76 ± 13.3 mL compared to 170.01 ± 17.19 mL for OS (p < 0.05). The laparoscopic group had significantly reduced (p < 0.05) average hospital stays (2.1 ± 1.1 days) than the OS group (4.4 ± 2.1 days). Although the laparoscopic group had lower incidence of surgical site infection (4.76%) than the OS group (9.33%), this difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). On postoperative days 1, 3, and 7, the Visual Analog Scale assessment of pain in the laparoscopic group revealed significantly reduced pain (p < 0.05). Laparoscopic surgery appeared to offer distinct advantages over conventional open surgery, especially in terms of operative durations, recovery rates, and postoperative pain management. This study highlighted the potential of laparoscopic approaches for specific surgical interventions, as well as the importance of patient‐specific surgical strategy decision‐making. Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic and related restrictions globally impacted mental health, particularly for those with pre‐existing severe mental illness (SMI). This qualitative study examined how adults with SMI perceived the effects of the COVID‐19 pandemic and related restrictions in the Netherlands, focusing on their personal recovery, well‐being and daily life, including an exploration of factors influencing these effects. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted, audio‐recorded and transcribed verbatim. Reflexive thematic analysis was applied. Purposive sampling was used to ensure diversity of individuals with SMI (i.e., age, gender, diagnosis, cultural background and mental healthcare institution). Results: Twenty participants (median age: 45 years [SD: 12, 8]; 11 females) were interviewed between May and July 2023. Findings revealed a wide range of experiences: while some individuals reported a negative impact on their existing psychiatric symptoms, others described adaptability, resilience and even positive effects of COVID‐19 restrictions on their mental health and well‐being. Factors influencing the heterogeneic perceptions of the COVID‐19 pandemic and related restrictions include the availability of trusted social relationships and enduring interactions with health professionals. Conclusion: Personalised support, both socially and professionally, is crucial for addressing fears, building resilience, reducing isolation and encouraging positive coping strategies for individuals with SMI during external crises. In this project, a participatory research approach that integrated the lived experience perspective helped uncover the unique perceptions of people with SMI with regard to the pandemic and related restrictions. Introduction: This study sought to explore the meaning of the recovery process and its stages from the perspective of people attending a mental health day hospital. Methods: A descriptive exploratory qualitative study was carried out. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with people attending a mental health day hospital. The data were analysed deductively by means of content analysis. Results: The participants described the recovery process as a process based on three pillars; the attitude towards recovery, hardship, and the effort required throughout the process. Regarding the stages of recovery, for the participants in the first stage of the process (Moratorium), the search for hope was the most important element. In the second stage (Awareness), the reestablishment of their identity, through the acceptance of the consequences derived from the mental health problem, together with being able to feel full and fulfilled, were the most outstanding elements. In the third stage (Preparation), participants highlighted the search for meaning in life, facing their fears and the process with an open mind. Finally, the last two stages (Rebuilding and Growth) were related to taking responsibility and empowerment for recovery. Conclusions: The results of this study provide insight into the perception of the recovery process and its stages in people attending a mental health day hospital. These findings may contribute to aligning the nurse–patient perspective, helping nurses to understand the key elements of patients according to their stage of recovery, and thus be able to subsequently individualise interventions. Objective: This study uses capital theory to investigate survivors' investments in their bodies and the resources they accumulate during their rehabilitation trajectory, and how these factors impact their perception of recovery from their impairments. Methods: Qualitative interviews were conducted with 20 patients of working age and their relatives, with audio recordings transcribed verbatim. Data analysis utilized an abductive approach informed by Bourdieu's capital theory. Findings: During the initial phases of rehabilitation (acute and subacute), survivors invest in their physical bodies and acquire physical capital. However, they encounter a range of complex barriers when attempting to convert this capital into the resources necessary for re‐entering the workforce or pursuing education. These difficulties are linked to the lack of specialized community services in the later phases of their rehabilitation trajectory. Discussion and Conclusion: Present‐day Danish healthcare rehabilitation focuses on restoring physical function and recovering physical capital. However, comprehensive rehabilitation to enhance mental and cognitive abilities and increase levels of emotional capital, which is crucial for working‐age individuals, is inadequately addressed within community services. This results in unequal treatment and care, contradicting the stated goal of equality in the Danish healthcare system. Introduction: People with poststroke acquired brain injury (ABI) face a complex and often troubled identity reconstruction journey. The literature is rich with studies related to the psychological and neuropsychological components involved in rehabilitation, but it is lacking with respect to the investigation of the existential dimensions and the challenges associated with finding new senses and meanings for one's identity and future perspectives, body and interpersonal relationships. Methods: The aim of this study is to investigate the narrative processes of identity reconstruction after brain damage. Through a qualitative approach, 30 autobiographical narratives about self, body and the relationships with others were collected and analyzed. Semistructured interviews were used for the data collection. Narrative and positioning analysis were applied. Results: Four main positionings emerged: sanctioning a radical break with one's previous life; assuming a sense of salvation and compulsory as well as irreversible adaptation to the limitations associated with one's condition; feeling different and disabled; and considering new possibilities and active constructions of self‐being in relationship with others. These results underline the narrative processes of construction of the injury and the identity and delineate possible resources and instruments to improve the clinical practice for health practitioners. They are also valuable for other professionals who deal with neurological services and rehabilitation, such as psychological counselling and support for persons who have experienced ABI and their families. Aim: A specific, valid and reliable measure is much needed to dynamically assess the recovery of symptoms in oesophagectomy patients. This study describes developing and validating the Convalescent Symptom Assessment Scale for oesophagectomy patients (CSAS_EC). Design: An instrument development and cross‐sectional validation study was conducted. Methods: This study consists of two components: instrument development and psychometric tests. In instrument development, the literature review, qualitative interviews, Delphi method expert consultation and face validation were used to develop and refine scale content. In psychometric tests, the clinical test version scale was used to conduct a cross‐sectional in the thoracic surgery department from 17 June to 20 November 2022. The Classical Test Theory and Multidimensional Item Response Theory (MIRT) analyses examined psychometric properties. Results: In instrument development, literature review (n = 20), qualitative interviews (n = 21), expert consultation (n = 12) and pre‐survey (n = 15) led to the development of the clinical test version scale. In psychometric tests, a total of 331 participants were enrolled. Confirmatory factor analysis and MIRT analysis verified that a model with 28 items in four dimensions was good. The four dimensions were early recovery symptoms, late recovery symptoms, persistent present symptoms and psychosocial symptoms. The Cronbach's α is 0.827. The validity and reliability were demonstrated to be acceptable. Conclusions: The CSAS_EC scale can be used as a tool to evaluate the recovery status of oesophagectomy patients. To evaluate the diagnostic potential of exosome‐based circular RNAs (circRNAs) as biomarkers for wound healing in patients after breast cancer surgery, we conducted a comprehensive meta‐analysis of studies that measured exosome‐based circRNA levels in breast cancer patients post‐surgery. Data sources included several biomedical databases up to April 2023. Two independent reviewers extracted the data and assessed study quality. Sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic odds ratios were synthesized using random‐effects model with subgroup analyses performed based on study characteristics. Seventeen studies met the inclusion criteria, encompassing a total of 1234 patients. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of exosome‐based circRNA for detecting wound healing complications were 0.85 (95% CI: 0.77–0.91) and 0.83 (95% CI: 0.78–0.88), respectively. The area under the summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve was 0.90, indicating high diagnostic accuracy. Subgroup analyses revealed that diagnostic performance was consistent across studies of different geographic regions and sample types but indicated potential variability related to patient age and study design. Exosome‐based circRNA profiles exhibited the high diagnostic accuracy for monitoring wound healing in breast cancer post‐operative care. These findings supported the potential utility of circRNA as non‐invasive biomarkers for post‐surgical recovery. However, variability among studies suggested the need for standardized protocols in biomarker measurement. This randomized‐controlled trial aimed to investigate the effect of bed exercises on postoperative anxiety, pain, early ambulation and mobilization. This study was conducted with a randomized‐controlled trial design and in the general surgical clinic of a research and training hospital. A total of 120 patients (60 in the experimental group and 60 in the control group) scheduled for major abdominal surgery took part in the study. The data were collected using a patient information form, the Anxiety Specific to Surgery Questionnaire and the Visual Analog Scale through face‐to‐face interviews. The patients in the experimental group performed 15‐min bed exercises on the day of their operation, as well as on the postoperative first and second days, and the control group underwent only the routinely performed procedures in the clinic. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and t‐tests. The sample of our study included major abdominal surgery patients. Ambulation was achieved at a mean time of 4 h earlier in the experimental group. On the postoperative first and second days, the patients in the experimental group had mean mobilization durations that were approximately 2 h longer compared with the patients in the control group. Moreover, the postoperative pain and anxiety levels of the patients in the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the patients in the control group (p < 0.05). We recommend that bed exercises be performed to lower anxiety and pain severity, achieve early ambulation and increase the duration of mobilization among patients following major abdominal surgery. Limited studies have been conducted on Chinese women's willingness to donate milk following perinatal loss. In this study, we explore the relationship among childbirth trauma, willingness to donate milk, and resilience in women following perinatal loss, and the mediating effect of resilience between childbirth trauma and willingness to donate milk. A cross‐sectional study was carried out throughout 4 months. We used convenience sampling methods and recruited 241 women following a perinatal loss from eight tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province, China. Participants completed four questionnaires during a face‐to‐face individual interview: the general information questionnaire, the Willingness to Donate Milk Scale (WMDS), the City Birth Trauma Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale. SPSS 20.0 was used to analyze the collected data. In our study, childbirth trauma was negatively correlated with the total and each dimension score of WMDS (p < 0.001). Resilience was positively correlated with the total and each dimension score of WMDS (p < 0.001). Resilience partially mediated the relationship between childbirth‐related symptoms and willingness to donate milk (β = −0.38, 95% confidence interval [CI]: −0.50 to −0.26), which accounted for 69.03% of the total effect. Resilience partially mediated the relationship between general symptoms and willingness to donate milk (β = −0.31, 95% CI: −0.40 to −0.21), which accounted for 66.89% of the total effect. Resilience partially mediated the relationship between childbirth trauma and willingness to donate milk in women following perinatal loss. Our findings suggest that resilience can play a significant role in mediating the relationship between childbirth trauma and willingness to donate milk in women following perinatal loss. These results could help healthcare professionals design interventions for physical and mental recovery after perinatal loss. The purpose of this investigation was to examine whether adding a set of vibrating foam rollers (VFR) to a regular running‐based warm‐up before a bout of multidirectional repeated sprints provides protective effects against the sprinting‐induced muscle damage. Twenty‐four elite college handball and rugby players participated in this study. After the familiarization visit, the subjects were randomly divided into either the vibration rolling (VFR) or the general warm‐up (GW) group. Before (pretest), post‐24, 48, and 72 h after the muscle‐damaging protocol (15 sets of 30‐m maximal multi directional repeated sprints), plasma creatine kinase (CK), muscle soreness, hip flexion passive range of motion (ROM), isometric strength, and hexagon agility was measured. After the VFR, the CK and DOMS were significantly less than GW (p < 0.05). In addition, when compared with the GW, the hamstring isometric strength, hexagon agility, and 0–10 m and 0–30‐m sprint performances showed faster recovery for the VFR (p < 0.05). The VFR protocol had protective effect on multidirectional repeated sprinting‐induced muscle damage markers than GW protocol. Therefore, preconditioning warm‐up activities using VFR can be integrated into a traditional sport‐specific warm‐up protocol for elite athletes before competitions/training may take advantage of this strategy to facilitate muscle recovery. Substrate oxidation can be altered by both environmental temperature and exercise training. It is unclear whether environmental temperatures before and after short‐term exercise training influence substrate oxidation rates and energy expenditure (EE) during postexercise recovery. The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of hot and thermoneutral environments on substrate oxidation and EE during postexercise recovery before and after a 1‐month exercise training in obese women. Sixteen overweight or obese women underwent a 1‐month exercise training. Before and after training, each participant completed metabolic testing during postexercise recovery at either hot (31°C–32°C) or thermoneutral (22°C–23°C) environments in a randomized crossover fashion with a washout period of 2–4 days between the two tests. The substrate oxidation and EE determined by indirect calorimetry during the 60‐min postexercise recovery of the hot and thermoneutral environments were compared. Following exercise training, fat oxidation during recovery was significantly greater at thermoneutral than at hot environments (thermoneutral, 56.0 ± 24.6 mg/kg/h vs. hot, 39.7 ± 27.5 mg/kg/h; p < 0.001). Conversely, carbohydrate oxidation during the recovery was significantly greater at hot than at thermoneutral environments, and the total EE at both temperatures did not significantly differ (hot, 70.5 ± 19.6 kcal/h vs. thermoneutral, 71.3 ± 13.7 kcal/h; p = 0.846). The results were the same as those before exercise training. After an acute bout of exercise, recovery in a thermoneutral environment increases fat oxidation; however, environmental temperatures produce no effect on the total EE. The same results were obtained before and after exercise training, suggesting that energy and substrate metabolism during postexercise recovery are more influenced by the environmental temperature than exercise training. Aim: To explore and synthesise findings from qualitative studies on adult patients' experiences of day surgery and the processes of recovery. Background: There has been a shift in the practice of elective surgery, from inpatient to ambulatory treatment. Accordingly, more patients are undergoing day surgery and expected to care for themselves at home. To our knowledge, an updated metasynthesis on patients' experiences of day surgery across diverse contexts and continents is lacking. Design: Meta‐ethnography. Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL were systematically searched for qualitative research in English published between 2006 and 2023. Noblit and Hare's meta‐ethnographic approach guided the synthesis of findings from 12 qualitative studies, and the eMERGe Reporting Guidance was used in the writing of this article. Results: Four themes were revealed: (1) requests for tailored information, (2) challenges of recognising and understanding postoperative symptoms, (3) being dependent on continuous professional and personal support and (4) calling for individual adaptation. Conclusion: Our meta‐ethnography indicates there is a need to improve information provision to better prepare patients for the processes of day surgery and recovery and promote their self‐care abilities. Our findings highlight the importance of ensuring adequate levels of individualised care and support throughout the treatment process. Relevance to Clinical Practice: To improve quality of care in day surgery practice, implementation of interventions to enhance information provision and promote self‐care during recovery at home may be considered. Pre‐admission appointments that incorporate provision of tailored information and assessment of the patients' individual needs of care and support, home conditions and access to assistance from family/friends can be recommended. Traumatic osteomyelitis with accompanying soft tissue defects presents a significant therapeutic challenge. This prospective, randomised controlled trial aims to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic‐impregnated bone cement, flap coverage and negative pressure sealed irrigation in the management of traumatic osteomyelitis complicated by soft tissue defects. A total of 46 patients with clinically diagnosed traumatic osteomyelitis and soft tissue defects were randomised into a control group (n = 23) and an observation group (n = 23). The control group underwent standard flap coverage and negative‐pressure lavage, while the observation group received an additional treatment with antibiotic‐loaded bone cement. Efficacy was measured based on clinical criteria, surgical metrics and morphometric assessment of bone and soft tissue defects. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 27.0. The observation group, treated with an integrated approach of flap coverage, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and antibiotic‐impregnated bone cement, demonstrated significantly higher overall treatment efficacy (91.3%) compared to the control group, which received only flap coverage and NPWT (65.2%) (p < 0.01). This enhanced efficacy was evidenced through various outcomes: the observation group experienced reduced surgical times, shorter hospital stays, fewer dressing changes and accelerated wound healing, all statistically significant (p < 0.001). Additionally, a quantitative analysis at 6‐month post‐treatment revealed that the observation group showed more substantial reductions in both bone and soft tissue defect sizes compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The multi‐modal treatment strategy, combining skin flap coverage, antibiotic bone cement and negative‐pressure irrigation, showed marked efficacy in treating traumatic osteomyelitis and associated soft tissue defects. A randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted from 2022 to 2023 at a hospital specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shanghai. A total of 564 participants were allocated into control and intervention groups in order to determine the effectiveness of Shujing Tongdu massage on patients with chronic lesions or spinal disorders. No significant differences were observed in baseline characteristics between the groups; age, gender and condition type were all distributed in a comparable manner. Following the implementation of Shujing Tongdu massage therapy twice weekly for the duration of 12 weeks, intervention group exhibited noteworthy enhancements. Significantly, rate of lesion healing achieved in the intervention group increased by 30%, while it merely improved by 10% in the control group. The intervention group exhibited decrease in pain intensity from 6.5 to 4.2, whereas control group demonstrated comparatively smaller reduction from 6.7 to 6.0. Range of motion in the intervention group increased substantially from 45 to 60 degrees, whereas it increased from 44 to 46 degrees in the control group. In the intervention group, Quality of Life scores increased from 50 to 75, exceeding the increase of 58 in the control group. There was significant rise in the Mental Well‐being Index for intervention group, from 60 to 80, in contrast to rise of 64 from 62 in the control group. Statistically significant outcomes were determined, establishing the massage therapy's efficacy. Mild discomfort and muscle soreness were the most frequent adverse effects in the intervention group, whereas vertigo was more prevalent in the control group. Based on the findings of this research, Shujing Tongdu massage therapy effectively promoted wound healing and mitigated symptoms associated with spinal disorders, indicating its potential as the supplementary therapeutic modality in clinical environments. We conducted this study aimed to explore the effect of operating room nursing intervention on wound infection in patients undergoing ovarian cysts surgery. A computer system was used to search PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Wanfang, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases, from database inception to October 2023, for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on the application of operating room nursing intervention to ovarian cyst surgery. Literature that met the requirements was independently screened by two researchers, and data were extracted and assessed for literature quality. RevMan 5.4 software was applied for data analysis. Fifteen RCTs involving 1187 patients were finally included. The analyses revealed that, compared with routine nursing, the implementation of operating room nursing intervention had a significant advantage in reducing the incidence of wound infections (1.17% vs. 5.44%, odds ratio [OR]: 0.30, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.15–0.58, p = 0.0004) and postoperative complications (6.34% vs. 25.17%, OR: 0.20, 95%CI: 0.13–0.29, p < 0.00001), as well as being able to shorten the operative time (standardised mean difference [SMD]: ‐3.93, 95%CI: −5.67 to −2.20, p < 0.00001), hospital length of stay (SMD: −2.54, 95%CI: −3.19 to −1.89, p < 0.00001) and gastrointestinal recovery time (SMD: −1.61, 95%CI: −2.24 to −0.98, p < 0.00001) in patients undergoing ovarian cysts surgery. This study confirmed by meta‐analysis that the operating room nursing intervention can significantly reduce the incidence of wound infection and complications, shorten the operative time, gastrointestinal recovery time, and hospital length of stay after ovarian cyst surgery. Craniotomy, an essential neurosurgical operation, poses distinct difficulties in the realm of post‐operative care, specifically with regard to the management of wounds. Efficient wound management is critical in order to optimize the surgical outcomes, reduce complications and facilitate a speedier recovery. The purpose of this comprehensive review was to assess contemporary wound management approaches as they pertain to improved recovery following craniotomy. This was achieved by contrasting conventional methods with more recent and innovative techniques and analysing the effects of these approaches on patient recovery and surgical results. An exhaustive literature search was undertaken, comprising narrative reviews, clinical studies, peer‐reviewed articles and expert opinions. The emphasis was on the evolution of wound management strategies and techniques utilized after cranial section, as well as their contributions to patient recovery. The analysis reveals that while conventional wound management methods, including suturing and antiseptics, continue to be essential, innovative strategies such as negative pressure wound therapy, skin adhesives and advanced pain management protocols are becoming increasingly recognized. It has been demonstrated that these novel approaches improve recovery by decreasing the incidence of infections, enhancing patient comfort and producing superior cosmetic results. Nevertheless, obstacles continue to endure, including patient‐specific variables, technological and financial considerations and the enduring consequences of recovery. Thus the treatment of wounds during craniotomy recuperation necessitates an integrated strategy that incorporates conventional techniques alongside contemporary advancements. Progress in this domain necessitates the customization of approaches to suit the unique requirements of each patient, the resolution of identified obstacles and an emphasis on ongoing investigation and interdisciplinary cooperation.
