The article explains how "The Journal of Consumer Affairs" considers an article for publication in the United States. The periodical receives a number of papers from authors that are bench rejected without editorial review because the papers are inappropriate for the periodical. These papers are most often broad consumer psychology or marketing management papers, surveys or experiments focused on how many consumers act in the marketplace, with research questions and implications for business managers. The basic concern for deciding which articles are published should be "What did this study add to our knowledge and understanding about an interesting and important question?"
