The control of quadrotor vehicles under state and parameter uncertainty is a well studied problem that is vitally important to the deployment of these systems under real world conditions. In this article, we propose a linearization‐based extension to nonlinear systems of the existing scenario model predictive control (MPC) framework, which quantifies the impact of uncertainty on the vehicle dynamics through repeated sampling of the uncertainty space. Given the computational costs of such an approach, we also propose two simplifications of the scenario MPC algorithm that are significantly more tractable. In order to evaluate the performance of the algorithms, the specific problem of the control of a bidirectionally actuated quadrotor vehicle is considered. Simulations are carried out for each scenario MPC scheme as well as for a reference deterministic MPC scheme. When a sufficiently large sample count is considered, each of the scenario MPC algorithms achieves safer performance than the deterministic formulation without sacrificing any optimality. The precision of path tracking in high‐speed intelligent vehicles is significantly influenced by model mismatch arising from factors like parameter uncertainty, model simplification, external disturbances, and other sources. In this paper, we propose a novel robust control strategy that integrates the compensation function observer (CFO) with the model predictive control (MPC) method, utilizing an optimized vehicle dynamics model (opt‐model) to address this challenge, called OCMPC. Initially, we establish the opt‐model to design predictive model by leveraging suspension kinematics and compliance (K&C) data collected from a miniature pure electric vehicle. Remarkably, the opt‐model exhibits improved accuracy compared to the conventional vehicle dynamics model (con‐model) while preserving the same degrees of freedom (DOF). Next, we incorporate CFO into the path tracking process of high‐speed intelligent vehicles, enabling dynamic real‐time observation of the model mismatch between the prediction model and the actual vehicle. CFO can capture the dynamics of the vehicle, including nonlinearities and uncertainties, without placing a heavy computing burden on the controller. This observed mismatch is subsequently employed for feed‐forward compensation, facilitating the attainment of optimal control values. Ultimately, we validate the effectiveness of our proposed method in enhancing path tracking accuracy for high‐speed intelligent vehicles through co‐simulation using Simulink and Carsim. This article introduces a control method for trajectory tracking of underactuated unmanned marine vehicles (UMVs), employing the sliding mode predictive control (SMPC) scheme. To address the challenges of demonstrating system stability with a local feedback controller for underactuated UMVs in model predictive control (MPC), this article proposes an auxiliary controller design method based on sliding mode control. A sliding mode dynamic is derived through an error system and sliding surface equations. Compared to existing literature, which predominantly emphasizes demonstrating input‐state stability, this strategy ensures the asymptotic stability of the closed‐loop system by introducing a novel method for selecting weight matrices. Furthermore, extended terminal sets and feasible sets constructed via sliding variables are provided, thereby reducing conservatism. ABSTRACT This article considers the trajectory tracking problem of automated guided vehicles with unknown‐but‐bounded noises and proposes a set‐membership filtering (SMF) based model predictive control strategy. A 2‐DOF vehicle model is first established with considering the unknown‐but‐bounded process and measurement noises. Then, a trajectory tracking control scheme is proposed which consists of two parts, that is, a set‐membership observer and a model predictive controller. The proposed set‐membership observer is able to deal with the unknown‐but‐bounded noises and obtain the state estimation ellipsoid for the considered automated guided vehicle. Further, the designed model predictive controller utilizes the estimated ellipsoid to compute the control sequence. In the emergency rescue and disposal of social public emergencies, supply transportation effectively provides a strong supply foundation and realistic conditions. The trajectory tracking control of emergency supplies transportation robot is the key technology to ensure the timeliness of transportation. In this article, the emergency supplies transportation robot is taken as the research object, based on Koopman operator theory, combined with radial basis function (RBF) neural network disturbance observer and adaptive prediction horizon event‐triggered model predictive control (APET‐MPC) algorithm to investigate the purely data‐driven trajectory tracking control problem of emergency supplies transportation robot when the model parameters and models are unknown. Firstly, the Koopman operator is used to establish a high‐dimensional linear model of the robot. Secondly, the RBF neural network disturbance observer is designed to estimate the disturbance during the robot operation and compensate it to the controller. Thirdly, APET‐MPC is used to optimize the trajectory tracking control of the emergency supplies transportation robot to reduce computational complexity. Finally, the performance of the proposed trajectory tracking controller is verified by Carsim/ Simulink joint simulation. The simulation results show that the model established by Koopman operator theory can achieve the high accuracy approximation of the robot. Compared with the MPC trajectory tracking controller, the APET‐MPC trajectory tracking controller based on RBF neural network disturbance observer (RBF‐APET‐MPC) improves the tracking accuracy of the robot and reduces the total triggering times of the system by more than 50%. This article presents a robust security‐based model predictive control (MPC) framework for a class of discrete‐time nonlinear cyber‐physical systems (CPSs) suffering random deception attacks and persistent actuator saturation. In CPSs, the attacks can significantly degrade the control performance. Naturally, a larger degree of control is required, prompting the consideration of actuator saturation in CPS's structure. In our work, the cyberattacks on the controller‐actuator (C‐A) channel are described as a stochastic process with specific probability and bounded energy. The security‐related constraint is introduced to improve the resistance and robustness against attacks. Mean‐square quadratic boundedness is derived to estimate the robustly invariant set. By placing the saturated input into a convex hull, a robust security‐based MPC optimization problem is addressed less conservatively with linear matrix inequality technique. Furthermore, the feasibility of the proposed method is proved recursively, and the stability and security of the closed‐loop system are established in mean‐square sense. Summary: The LC filter integrated quasi‐Z source indirect matrix converter (QZS‐IMC) filters the input voltages and currents while highly expanding voltage boost ratio through the combined QZS network, avoiding the additional input filter while maintaining full‐silicon solution. The traditional proportional‐integral (PI) control method of IMC is realized through the PI regulators with pulse width modulation (PWM), which is complicated due to elaborated vectors computation and duty cycle composition of IMC and extra control loops design is mandatory. This paper proposes a model predictive control (MPC) for the LC filter integrated QZS‐IMC. Based on the established discrete models of circuit voltages and currents, the proposed control method measures the present circuit variables and predicts the variables in the next sampling period. Then, a predefined cost function is evaluated with the predictions and references at each active switching states of the IMC. An optimal switching state that ensures the smallest value of the cost function is applied to the power devices at the beginning of next sampling time. This paper presents an advanced control strategy for a continuous biodiesel production plant based on a steady‐state optimizer and model predictive control (MPC). The proposed control system aims to optimize the production process and maintain product quality within required specifications. First, two steady‐state optimizers were developed with the aim of minimizing the steady‐state deviations of the manipulated and controlled variables and minimizing the biodiesel production cost. An MPC was then formulated to track the set points imposed by the steady‐state optimizers in real time and manipulate the control inputs accordingly. The scope of this work is limited to measured disturbances only. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated through dynamic simulation studies performed using HYSYS and MATLAB. The results obtained using the proposed control methodology show significant improvements in performance compared to conventional control strategies. Furthermore, it avoids the quality problem reflected in the amount of water in the final product that the original plant presented due to an inadequate design of the control strategy. Overall, the results of this research indicate that the proposed advanced control strategy has the potential to improve the efficiency and profitability of continuous biodiesel production plants. This article proposes a novel event‐triggered economic model predictive control (EMPC) scheme with shrinking prediction horizon of nonlinear systems subject to the constraints on the state and control. Some auxiliary positive‐definite functions at economic optimal equilibrium points are defined for economic performance functions. The optimal value function of the auxiliary function is used to design an adjustable stability constraint, which is imposed on the original EMPC optimization problem. The stability constraint is relaxed to design the triggered scheme avoiding Zeno behavior, while the prediction horizon is shrinked in different degrees by judging whether the last state within the triggered interval is in the terminal region. The involved parameter can be used to achieve a sensible compromise between system performance and computational complexity. The sufficient conditions guaranteeing the recursive feasibility and stability of the EMPC are derived. Model predictive control (MPC) emerges as an attractive alternative for the control of modular multilevel converters (MMCs) owing to its superior dynamic performance and ease of implementation. Nevertheless, conventional MPC's performance could be further improved by reducing dependence on weighting factors, switching frequency, and computational burden. To achieve these objectives, an arm‐current sensorless MPC is developed for a grid‐interfacing MMC in this article. The MPC is integrated with an arm‐current sensorless reduced switching frequency voltage balance algorithm that requires only m+1 switching vectors (where m= number of submodules per arm) to optimize the cost function. This method does not require knowledge of arm‐current direction to decide the charging and discharging state of the submodule capacitors. The developed control not only reduces the switching frequency of devices but also eliminates the need to sense the arm currents. As a result, it reduces the system's cost, complexity, computational burden, switching losses and provides a more reliable control method for MMCs with superior dynamic performance. Further, the effect of parameter mismatch on the developed MPC's dynamic performance and stability is studied. This work addresses the problem of path following for a car‐like agricultural robot by means of a finite control set model predictive control (FCS‐MPC) strategy that considers the control actions in a set composed of a limited amount of elements. Recent results on a stabilizing MPC formulation that replaces the classical control invariant set by a pair of inner‐outer sets are extended to preserve stability properties with different control and prediction horizons and are then used for the aforementioned application. Being particularly simple, the presented approach can explicitly deal with nonlinearities and constraints at the expense of resolution in the vehicle steering system, which in practice does not affect the controller performance as will be shown. In addition to describing the control method, simulations and a comparison with another nonlinear MPC strategy are presented to illustrate the advantages of the proposed scheme. In this paper, a single objective variable double voltage vector model predictive control (SOV‐DVVMPC) to lower the computational burden for single‐phase cascaded H‐bridge (CHB) converters is proposed. The proposed algorithm is based on a hierarchical structure to control the grid‐connected current and capacitor voltage without a weighting factor. Firstly, layer I controls the grid‐connected current to select the optimal region, the cost function related to the voltage region is designed and the optimal state is calculated directly by analyzing the linear relationship between the divided region and its adjacent voltage levels, which can reduce the computational burden. Correspondingly, the optimal vectors are symmetrically distributed over the entire control cycle by a modulation principle, fulfilling the fixed switching frequency (FSF) of the system. Then, layer II uses redundant switching states to maintain capacitor voltage balancing. Finally, a single‐phase CHB converter experiment setup is constructed, the results show that compared with DVV‐MPC, the execution time of SOV‐DVVMPC is reduced by 26.4%, and compared with traditional MPC, the switching frequency is fixed and the output current quality is improved. In this paper, we propose the design of a robust control strategy for the trajectory tracking problem in perturbed unicycle mobile robots. The proposed strategy comprises the design of a robust control law, which is based on an Integral Sliding‐Mode Control (ISMC) approach together with an interval predictor‐based state‐feedback controller through a Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme. The robust controller deals with some perturbations in the kinematic model, which represent slipping effects, and with state and input constraints that are related to restrictions on the workspace and saturated actuators, respectively. The proposed approach guarantees the exponential convergence to zero of the tracking error. In this article, a resilient model predictive control algorithm incorporating a dual‐mode control strategy is proposed for a class of cyber‐physical systems subject to state and input constraints, additive disturbances and denial‐of‐service (DoS) attacks. An adversary aims to disrupt the controller‐to‐actuator channel by deploying adversarial jamming signals. By exploring the prediction uncertainty between a nominal model and an actual model and utilizing a constraint tightening technique, a novel set of constraints is developed, which guarantees robust constraint satisfaction in open‐loop mode caused by DoS attacks. A robust positive invariant set is designed, which allows the control mode to switch from rolling optimization to a state‐feedback control law when the state enters its interior, thus saving computational resources. We explicitly determine a critical duration for DoS attacks and, through theoretical analysis, establish that when the duration of DoS attacks falls below this critical value, the proposed algorithm ensures guaranteed recursive feasibility and robust asymptotic stability. Summary: Ensuring nominal asymptotic stability of the nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) controller is not trivial. Stabilizing ingredients such as terminal penalty term and Terminal Region (TR) are crucial in establishing the asymptotic stability. Approaches available in the literature provide limited degrees of freedom for the characterization of the TR for the discrete time quasi infinite horizon NMPC formulation. Current work presents alternate approaches namely arbitrary controller based approach and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based approach, which provide larger degrees of freedom for enlarging the TR. Both the approaches are scalable to system of any dimension. Approach from the literature provides a scalar whereas proposed approaches provide two additive matrices as tuning parameters for shaping of the TR. Proposed approaches involve solving modified Lyapunov equations to compute terminal penalty term, followed by explicit characterization of the TR. Efficacy of the proposed approaches is demonstrated using benchmark two state system. TR obtained using the arbitrary controller based approach and LQR based approach are approximately 10.4723 and 9.5055 times larger by area measure when compared to the largest TR obtained using the approach from the literature. Path planning and tracking control are the key technologies of autonomous vehicle. The planned path and tracking results affect driving stability and safety directly. In this paper, an improved local path planning method based on model predictive control is proposed to match the variation of vehicle speed and road adhesion coefficient. A two‐layer model predictive control (MPC) path planning and tracking system is further designed to validate the method and the simulation results show that the proposed solution solves the problem of excessive avoidance and reduces the lateral deviation with the reference path. This paper introduces a novel data‐driven approach to develop a fault‐tolerant model predictive controller (MPC) for non‐linear systems. By adopting a Koopman operator‐theoretic perspective, the proposed method leverages historical data from the system to construct a data‐driven model that captures the non‐linear behaviour and fault characteristics. The fault influence is addressed through an online estimation of a time‐varying Koopman predictor, which allows for adjusting the MPC control law to counteract the fault effects. This estimation is performed in a higher dimensional Koopman feature space, where the dynamics behave linearly. As a result, the non‐linear fault‐tolerant MPC optimization problem can be replaced with a more practical and feasible linear time‐varying one using the approximated Koopman predictor. Moreover, by incorporating the online update procedure, the time‐varying Koopman predictor can represent the dynamics of the faulty system. Hence, the controller can adapt and compensate for the faults in real‐time, integrating the fault diagnosis module in the MPC framework and eliminating the need for a separate fault detection unit. Finally, the efficacy of the proposed approach is demonstrated through case study results, which highlight the ability of the controller to mitigate faults and maintain desired system behaviour. Aiming at the current control steady‐state error caused by sampling delay, parameters mismatch of direct‐drive permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). This paper proposed a method of dual model predictive control (MPC) of direct‐drive PMSM based on sliding mode disturbance observer (SMDO). Deadbeat predictive current control (DPCC) is used for current loop, a SMDO is proposed to observe the system disturbance, the estimation is compensated to DPCC by feedback to decrease the current control steady‐state error. For speed loop, MPC with an internal model control observer (IMCO) can observe and compensate the load disturbance feedforward. The experimental results show that, the dynamic response speed of the proposed strategy is fast, the speed recovery time after sudden load torque is short, and the anti‐load disturbance performance and current tracking performance are effectively improved. © 2024 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. The centrosome plays a crucial role in regulating the flow field of a continuous wind tunnel, and its positioning precision directly impacts the control accuracy of the Mach number. A high‐precision positioning control algorithm for the wind tunnel centrosome is proposed based on a model predictive control framework. Since that the centrosome is a typical non‐linear system with a Hammerstein structure comprising an input backlash and a linear dynamic block in series, a parameterized least‐squares identification method is constructed based on an adaptive forgetting factor strategy and a centrosome position prediction model with input backlash is established. To counteract the weakening effect of the backlash non‐linear block on the control signal, a compensator is constructed to compensate for the non‐linear input block. Considering that the input undetectable disturbance signal in the actuator may lead to unpredictable responses, an intermediate state observer is designed and the stable convergence of the observer algorithm is also proved. Finally, the closed‐loop stability of the proposed control algorithm is analyzed by constructing a Lyapunov function. Experimental testing verifies the superiority and applicability of the proposed algorithm. Summary: A model predictive cascade controller is proposed in this article to resolve the actuator saturation problem of underwater human‐occupied vehicle (HOV) trajectory tracking. For the kinematic model, a grasshopper optimization‐based model predictive control (MPC) is developed to obtain control velocities with small fluctuations in allowable regions. Based on the desired velocities obtained from the improved kinematic control, the HOV dynamic model is used to generate the corresponding torques and forces using sliding mode control. With the control velocities and forces given by the cascade control strategy, the elimination of actuator saturation during the HOV trajectory tracking can be realized. This paper proposes a novel learning‐based model predictive control (LMPC) scheme for discrete‐time nonlinear systems. It overcomes the challenge of manually designing the terminal conditions for traditional MPC and enhances the control performance. The scheme employs the value iteration (VI) in reinforcement learning (RL), and autonomously designs the terminal cost by iteratively performing value function learning and policy update under known dynamics and constraints. In contrast to the existing schemes that combine RL with MPC, the proposed scheme explicitly considers the approximation errors in each iteration. Further, a rigorous theoretical analysis is provided, including the convergence of VI, the stability and performance of the closed‐loop system. In addition, the influences of the prediction horizon and the initial terminal cost on performance are also investigated. Simulation results of a linear system verify the theoretical properties of the LMPC and show that it achieves (near‐)optimal performance. Summary: This paper studies the issue of Robust Fuzzy Model Predictive Control (RFMPC) of nonlinear discrete‐time systems in the presence of disturbance. To this end, Takagi‐Sugeno (T‐S) fuzzy model is adopted in order to characterize uncertain nonlinear systems and facilitate providing controller for such systems. Non‐parallel distributed compensation (non‐PDC) technique is applied to design improved RFPMC with better performance. The optimization problem of RFMPC is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) so as to decrease online computational burden. Besides, feasibility and stability which are decisive factors in MPC theory are investigated for the proposed method. This article proposes the consensus tracking of multi‐agent systems, in the presence of Byzantine agents and loss of connection between agents and the reference signal. The main purpose of this work is to steer a multi‐agent system to the desired reference, assuming that there are some agents which send incorrect information to the other agents, and the connection between the agents and the reference signal may lose. Using graph properties alongside the weighted‐mean‐subsequence‐reduced (W‐MSR) algorithm led to a novel control method for multi‐agent systems. With the aid of model predictive control (MPC), the agents reach the desired consensus with connection loss of reference signals, misbehaving agents in the system, and constraints on the input signals. Combining MPC with the W‐MSR algorithm results in an algorithm called reference‐based‐W‐MSR (RBW‐MSR), which has made the consensus point fixed according to a predetermined reference. A theorem is illustrated to guarantee the consensus with the interruption of reference signals and agents. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is illustrated via simulation results. In terms of model predictive control (MPC) performance degradation caused by operational faults, in this article, a robust MPC strategy with active fault tolerance properties is proposed. The proposed strategy incorporates a fault supervision layer into the structure of conventional cost‐contracting formulation‐based robust MPC for the online update of the nominal controller model in the event of faults. The robust MPC is based on multiplant uncertainty, while the supervisory layer consists of a bank of unknown input observers and a decision‐making algorithm. Simulation results in a nonlinear polymerization reactor subject to process faults demonstrate that the proposed approach offers superior performance compared to the conventional strategy. Partition control of the fan array within a direct air‐cooling condenser (DACC) is recognized as a highly effective energy‐saving measure and a means to mitigate the adverse effects of ambient winds. This study focuses on the development of a dynamic partition model, which establishes the relationship between mass flow rate and fan array speed under windy conditions. The model is grounded in multivariable Hammerstein controlled autoregressive moving average (H‐CARMA) systems. Additionally, an innovative extended stochastic gradient algorithm, founded on the hierarchical identification principle, is introduced to estimate the model's unknown parameters. The recursive least square is employed as a benchmark to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the approach. Subsequently, leveraging the identified model, the model predictive controller based on the differential evolution method is designed to derive the optimal control law. Finally, simulation test and analysis are carried out to testify the effectiveness of our control strategy. The experiment result shows that the dynamic characteristics of the system have been significantly improved and the fan power consumption is reduced by 3.5% compared to the PID controller. This work develops a new robust multi‐objective model predictive control (MoMPC) strategy for constrained non‐linear systems with bounded disturbances. The multiple objectives are always contradictory, and the presence of disturbances may result in the violation of state constraints and instability of the controlled system. Firstly, the conflict between multiple objectives is reconciled by minimizing the distance of the cost function vector to the vector of independently minimised objectives obtained by solving a set of steady‐state optimisation problems. Then the contractive state set, which takes into account the effect of disturbances on system states, is constructed to guarantee the robust satisfaction of state constraints. Finally, a stability constraint updated online by solving an auxiliary optimization problem is established to ensure the robust stability of the system under MoMPC. This study examined the control problem of continuous‐time nonlinear systems under a sample‐and‐hold control structure. A new integral‐type double self‐triggered (ST) model predictive control (MPC) approach is developed by combining a novel ST strategy with MPC, which significantly decreases the sampling frequency of the system, saving computation/communication resources. In contrast to the traditional ST strategy, two integral‐type self‐triggering mechanisms are designed based on the mode of the state and the integral of the difference between the optimal and actual states. In addition, the integral‐type double ST‐MPC algorithm is developed, and the feasibility and stability of the closed‐loop system are rigorously demonstrated. This paper studies the three‐dimensional (3‐D) dynamic trajectory tracking control of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). As AUV is a typical nonlinear system, each degree of freedom is strongly coupled, so the traditional control method based on the nominal model of AUV cannot guarantee the accuracy of the control system. To solve this problem, we first propose a prediction model based on a radial basis function neural network (RBF‐NN). The nonlinearity of AUV is learned and modeled offline by RBF‐NN based on previous data. This model can reflect the time sequence state and control variables of AUV. Secondly, to avoid the overfitting problem in network training based on the traditional gradient descent method, a new adaptive chaotic sparrow search algorithm (ACSSA) is proposed to optimize the network parameters, to improve the full approximation ability of RBF‐NN to nonlinear systems. To eliminate the steady‐state error caused by external interference during AUV trajectory tracking, a nonlinear optimizer is designed by updating the deviation of the NN model output layer. In each sampling period, the predictive control law is calculated online according to the deviation between the predicted value and the actual value. In addition, the stability analysis based on the Lyapunov method proves the asymptotic stability of the controller. Finally, the 3‐D dynamic trajectory tracking the performance of AUV under different external disturbances is verified by MATLAB/Simulink, and the results show that the proposed controller is more efficient and robust than the standard model predictive controller (MPC) controller and the standard NN model predictive controller (NNPC). The present article enables reinforcement learning (RL)‐based controllers for process control applications. Existing instances of RL‐based solutions have significant challenges for online implementation since the training process of an RL agent (controller) presently requires practically impossible number of online interactions between the agent and the environment (process). To address this challenge, we propose an implementable model‐free RL method developed by leveraging industrially implemented model predictive control (MPC) calculations (often designed using a simple linear model identified via step tests). In the first step, MPC calculations are used to pretrain an RL agent that can mimic the MPC performance. Specifically, the MPC calculations are used to pretrain the actor, and the objective function is used to pretrain the critic(s). The pretrained RL agent is then employed within a model‐free RL framework to control the process in a way that initially imitates MPC behavior (thus not compromising process performance and safety), but also continuously learns and improve its performance over the nominal linear MPC. This paper proposes a method for reducing the environmental impact of sewer network (SN) overflows. The main objective of the paper is to minimize the wastewater quantity and the pollutant loads that overflow from the SN. The proposed algorithm to achieve this goal is Model Predictive Control using Particle Swarm Optimization as optimization method. It was tested in simulation using a simplified model of the network based on Benchmark Simulation Modelsewer as prediction model, and a forecasted influent. Three cases have been considered: (a) the fitness function is defined as the global yearly overflow volume calculated using equal weights for each tank; (b) the fitness function uses different weights for each tank depending on the medium loads and (c) integrating a penalty term related to the system state at the end of the prediction horizon in the previous fitness function. The simplified model determined a significant reduction of the integration time minimizing the optimization time. Summary: This paper proposes a harmonic suppression strategy for photovoltaic‐voltage source converters (PV‐VSC). The proposed method utilizes a harmonic state space (HSS) model‐combine model predictive control (MPC) algorithm, which provides a comprehensive representation of the global characteristics of AC/DC harmonic coupling impedance in photovoltaic systems. The HSS‐based converter model operates as a linear time‐varying periodic system, which allows for the implementation of MPC to optimize the HSS equation. This optimization yields voltage increments across various harmonic orders, providing feedforward compensation for the current controller. By incorporating feedback signals into the current control, harmonic compensation is achieved, resulting in improved power quality. Furthermore, a decoupled proportional resonance‐linear adaptive disturbance rejection control (PR‐LADRC) is employed to effectively mitigate steady‐state errors and decrease total harmonic distortion in the presence of DC‐side disturbances. This is accomplished by decoupling the disturbance observer from the controller and integrating the increment feedback signal derived from the MPC‐HSS. Summary: In this paper, we discuss how to synthesize stabilizing model predictive control (MPC) algorithms based on convexly parameterized integral quadratic constraints (IQCs), with the aid of general multipliers. Specifically, we consider Lur'e systems subject to sector‐bounded and slope‐restricted nonlinearities. As the main novelty, we introduce point‐wise IQCs with storage in order to accordingly generate the MPC terminal ingredients, thus enabling closed‐loop stability, strict dissipativity with regard to the nonlinear feedback, and recursive feasibility of the optimization. Specifically, we consider formulations involving both static and dynamic multipliers, and provide corresponding algorithms for the synthesis procedures. The major benefit of the proposed approach resides in the flexibility of the IQC framework, which is capable to deal with many classes of uncertainties and nonlinearities. Moreover, for the considered class of nonlinearities, our method yields larger regions of attraction of the synthesized predictive controllers (with reduced conservatism) if compared to the standard approach to deal with sector constraints from the literature. In this paper, we evaluate the robustness qualities of Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms applied for Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) systems. Specifically, we analyze gain‐scheduled LPV MPC schemes, that is, those that use model predictions based on the LPV scheduling variables available at each sampling instant. Accordingly, we extend previous results on finite‐horizon robustness analysis of linear time‐variant (LTV) systems, employing Integral Quadratic Constraints (IQCs) to describe the input‐output behavior of prediction uncertainties. We provide two main novelties in our formulation: (i) we propose a parameter‐dependent Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) inequality to describe the existence and feasibility of the LPV MPC control inputs; and (ii) we model the uncertainties that arise due to the unavailability of the scheduling trajectory along the prediction horizon as a bounded interconnection in the form of a Linear Fractional Transformation (LFT). Accordingly, we use dissipativity arguments (p$$ p $$‐hard IQCs) in order to compute robust induced gains of the closed‐loop system (specifically, the ℒ2$$ {\mathcal{L}}_2 $$ and ℒ2$$ {\mathcal{L}}_2 $$‐to‐Euclidean metrics), taking into account the MPC prediction uncertainties. This article presents a machine learning‐based model predictive control (MPC) scheme for stabilization of hybrid dynamical systems, for which the evolution of states exhibits both continuous and discrete dynamics described by differential and difference equations, respectively. We first present the development of two recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for approximating continuous‐ and discrete‐time dynamics of hybrid dynamical systems, respectively, and then construct a unified hybrid RNN by integrating the two RNN models to capture both continuous and discrete dynamics. The hybrid RNN is used as the prediction model in Lyapunov‐based MPC (RNN‐LMPC), under which closed‐loop stability of hybrid dynamical systems is established. Finally, two case studies including a bouncing ball example and a chemical process are utilized to illustrate the open‐ and closed‐loop performance of the proposed RNN‐LMPC scheme. In order to address two‐dimensional (2D) control issue for a class of batch chemical processes, we propose a novel high‐order iterative learning model predictive control (HILMPC) method in this paper. A set of local state‐space models are first constructed to represent the batch chemical processes by adopting the just‐in‐time learning (JITL) technique. Meanwhile, a pre‐clustered strategy is used to lessen the computational burden of the modelling process and improve the modelling efficiency. Then, a two‐stage 2D controller is designed to achieve integrated control by combining high‐order iterative learning control (HILC) on the batch domain with model predictive control (MPC) on the time domain. The resulting HILMPC controller can not only guarantee the convergence of the system on the batch domain, but also guarantee the closed‐loop stability of the system on the time domain. The convergence of the HILMPC method is ensured by rigorous analysis. It is known that the key indicators of batch processes are controlled by conventional proportional–integral–derivative (PID) strategies from the view of one‐dimensional (1D) framework. Under such conditions, the information among batches cannot be used sufficiently; meanwhile, the repetitive disturbances also cannot be handled well. In order to deal with such situations, a novel two‐dimensional PID controller optimized by two‐dimensional model predictive iterative learning control (2D‐PID‐MPILC) is proposed. The contributions of this paper can be summarized as follows. First, a novel two‐dimensional PID (2D‐PID) controller is developed by combining the advantages of a PID‐type iterative learning control (PIDILC) strategy and the conventional PID method. This novel 2D‐PID controller overcomes the aforementioned disadvantages and extends the conventional PID algorithm from one‐dimension to two‐dimensions. Second, the tuning guidelines of the presented 2D‐PID controller are obtained from the two‐dimensional model predictive control iterative control (2D‐MPILC) method. Thus, the proposed approach inherits the advantages of both PID control, PIDILC strategy, and 2D‐MPILC scheme. In the present study, the economic model predictive control (EMPC) scheme is presented for the time of use tariff application of photovoltaic and diesel generator backup system, which is connected to the grid‐connected microgrid. Through the use of the closed‐loop control system, the prior open‐loop optimal control is enhanced. Minimizing the grid energy and fuel costs by evaluating the fuel level restrictions in the diesel tank is the main goal of this study. To accommodate the restrictions among controllable variables, this control method fulfils the load requirements. To gain the benefits of feedback and predictions, optimal power scheduling is modelled as a control problem. Furthermore, Blockchain technology is applied to secure interchanged information in the grid to avoid manipulating data by attackers. Specifically, the analysis is divided into two scenarios. The first one takes place in the alternative style when a blackout happens between [7 am and 6 pm] h and the other occurs in a grid energy mode when the network is available over 24 h. Energy performance, cost savings, and daily revenue have all been improved by EMPC. As a result, the daily energy savings are up to 52%, whereas diesel energy does not go over 85%. Summary: This article presents a model predictive control for dynamic positioning (DP) of floating caisson at different draughts. This article focuses on the maneuvres related to the control of the spatial situation of the caisson in connexion with the final caisson reference point and the process of descending to the seabed desired location. Different models of the caisson in order to perform realistic simulations and to test the robustness of the controller are considered. A gain scheduling model predictive control (GSMPC) has been implemented, with parameter switch among four model predictive control (MPC) controllers. In this way, a specific MPC for the dynamics of each draught will be used in each caisson model corresponding to a draught. Furthermore, a Kalman filter has been implemented to remove the disturbances. Finally, in the simulations results it is compared the performance of the proposed controller with a clasic one and also it is checked how the proposed controller is able to position the system in all draughts with stability and accurate dynamic control of the system. Although there have already been many works on the model predictive control (MPC) for load frequency control (LFC) of modern power systems, limited works can be found in the literature related to the output feedback MPC. This article studies an N‐step synthesis approach of output feedback MPC for LFC systems considering the problems of communication efficiency and network security. First, to improve the communication efficiency, an adaptive event‐triggering (AET) scheme involving two adaptive laws is designed to reduce the number of transmitted data packages which offers more flexible compared with existing event‐triggering schemes; Second, to handle the network security, a new model of LFC power system combining the AET scheme and random deception attack under an unified framework is established; Moreover, a synthesis approach of output feedback MPC with N‐step strategy is addressed for LFC of power system by parameterizing the infinite control moves into a series of output feedback laws. Compared with the existing predictive load frequency control methods, the present technique is shown as an useful way to improve the control performance since more degrees freedom is introduced by the N‐step strategy. Accurate control of front wheel angle is essential in intelligent vehicle electric‐hydraulic power steering (EHPS) system, because it has a significant impact on the safety, comfort, and reliability of vehicle steering. However, the accurate control of front wheel angle is a challenging problem due to the non‐linearity of hydraulic power in steering system and the uncertainty of steering resistance. In this paper, a model predictive control (MPC) method for front wheel angle based on steering resistance estimation is proposed. Firstly, through theoretical analysis and practical experiment of EHPS system model, the relationship between front wheel angle and steering wheel angle and the non‐linear characteristics of hydraulic power are obtained. Secondly, a sliding mode observer is established to estimate the front axle lateral tyre force and steering resistance, which is verified by MATLAB/TruckSim co‐simulation. Then a controller based on the MPC theory is designed and applied to the accurate control unit of front wheel angle in the EHPS system for real‐time control. Finally, the simulation and test platform results show that the control algorithm proposed in this paper can precisely control the vehicle's front wheel turning angle within a certain frequency range. With the rapid increase of wind power penetration, the frequency indicators of power system, encompassing frequency deviation and rate of change of frequency (RoCoF), are prone to exceed the pertinent relay thresholds, thus leading to serious power outages. Wind farms can participate in primary frequency regulation (PFR) to alleviate the above problem. However, wind farms reserve capacity (WFRC) presented by overspeed control and pitch angle control is the important factor for frequency safety especially when large disturbance occurs, and it varies obviously in different conditions. Thus, WFRC should be utilized optimally to avoid insufficient or excessive response of wind farms in PFR. To overcome the challenge, this paper proposes frequency‐trajectory‐oriented control (FTOC) for wind farms based on a two‐fold optimization framework, seeking to obtain the best frequency control performances in PFR through realizing the optimal compromise between frequency results and the consumption of WFRC. First, when the frequency indicators deviate significantly from the normal values, the optimal frequency trajectory is planned periodically according to the local standards and operation conditions, thereby minimizing the total consumption of WFRC on the premise of frequency safety. Second, based on model predictive control and a real‐time power system parameters estimator, the total reference power of wind farms, which helps the frequency track the latest planned trajectory, is optimally distributed among wind generators according to their reserve capacity. In this case, through the optimal frequency trajectory planning and tracking, the new method in this paper not only effectively prevents the frequency results from exceeding the local standards under diverse conditions, but also finds the optimal balance among frequency indicators safety, frequency trajectory smoothness, and the reserve capacity consumption of wind power generators. Hydrobatic autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) can be efficient in range and speed, as well as agile in maneuvering. They can be beneficial in scenarios such as obstacle avoidance, inspections, docking, and under‐ice operations. However, such AUVs are underactuated systems—this means exploiting the system dynamics is key to achieving elegant hydrobatic maneuvers with minimum controls. This paper explores the use of model predictive control (MPC) techniques to control underactuated AUVs in hydrobatic maneuvers and presents new simulation and experimental results with the small and hydrobatic SAM AUV. Simulations are performed using nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) on the full AUV system to provide optimal control policies for several hydrobatic maneuvers in Matlab/Simulink. For implementation on AUV hardware in robot operating system, a linear time varying MPC (LTV‐MPC) is derived from the nonlinear model to enable real‐time control. In simulations, NMPC and LTV‐MPC shows promising results to offer much more efficient control strategies than what can be obtained with PID and linear quadratic regulator based controllers in terms of rise‐time, overshoot, steady‐state error, and robustness. The LTV‐MPC shows satisfactory real‐time performance in experimental validation. By increasing the photovoltaic (PV) systems capacity worldwide, the requirement for a fast, reliable, and efficient control system is becoming more crucial. To this end, model predictive control (MPC) is known as one of the potential solutions. Although MPC is an easily implemented control system, it needs a high computational complexity due to the dependency on solving an iterative optimization problem. To overcome this problem, this study develops an artificial intelligence‐based on one‐dimensional convolutional neural network (1D‐CNN) based MPCs. While 1D‐CNN benefits from the inherent strong feature extraction/selection capability and lower computational complexity than other deep methods, it still cannot properly track the dynamic changes due to fixed weights during the training process. Thus, this paper integrates the dynamic weighting training process and proposed dynamic weighing 1D‐CNN for the implementation of intelligent MPC for the PVs. The numerical results based on different load types show an efficient performance of the proposed system and verify the superiority of the proposed method in comparison with the conventional MPC and several state‐of‐the‐arts shallow and deep based MPC for the PVs in terms of the total harmonic distortion (THD) and frequency switching. This paper designs an ellipsoidal tube‐based output feedback robust model predictive control approach for linear systems with bounded disturbances and noises subject to physical constraints. The ellipsoidal tube‐based output feedback robust model predictive control approach combines the off‐line optimization to compute controller parameters and deal with system uncertainties, and the on‐line optimization to stabilize the nominal system with time‐varying tightened constraints. In the off‐line optimization, the state observer gain, ancillary feedback controller gain, and tightened constraint sets on the nominal system are synthesized in one optimization. Then, an ellipsoidal terminal constraint set with terminal controller gain and terminal cost matrix, and tightened constraint sets related to different sizes of estimation error bounds are computed. In the on‐line model predictive control optimization with time‐varying tightened constraints, a sequence of nominal control inputs is receding horizon optimized to steer the nominal system state to the ellipsoidal terminal constraint set. When the current nominal system state is bounded within the ellipsoidal terminal constraint set, the nominal control inputs are switched to the feedbacks on the closed‐loop nominal system states. For the dual active bridge (DAB) DC‐DC converters, parameter uncertainty (circuit parameters, input and/or load perturbations) affect their performance, such as the dynamic performance and backflow power. Here, to deal with the uncertainties, a robust model predictive control (RMPC) for the DAB DC‐DC converter under extended‐phase‐shift (EPS) control is proposed to improve dynamic performance and reduce the backflow power of the DAB for the first time. First, a cost function consisting of backflow power and the output voltage is established. Second, considering the uncertainty of the circuit parameters, a robust term is added to the prediction model to increase the robustness. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified by experiments and comparisons with existing methods. This paper presents a model predictive controller for tracking periodic parametric reference curves. The controller is formulated in a single layer so that the time‐parameterization of the reference curve, the trajectory planning, and the trajectory tracking tasks are solved in a single optimization problem which is computed at each sampling time. The auxiliary state and input trajectories are introduced into the optimization problem as decision variables, which become the planned trajectory to be effectively followed. By design, the closed‐loop system guarantees of recursive feasibility of the optimization problem while being able to handle arbitrary changes of reference during execution time. An integral‐differential combined (IDC) type event‐triggered model predictive control (ET‐MPC) strategy is constructed for linear time‐invariant (LTI) systems in this paper. Compared with the standard ET‐MPC method, the proposed MPC algorithm is developed based on an IDC type event‐triggering mechanism (ETM), which takes both the integral and change rate of the error between the optimal prediction and the real state into the consideration for the construction of the triggering condition. In this way, the dynamic performance can be considered more comprehensively, for effectively reducing the calculation and communication burdens of the ET‐MPC method. In addition, an improved robust constraint is used to deal with additive disturbances, and the dual‐mode control method is employed in the development of the strategy. Then the parameter conditions guaranteeing the iterative feasibility of the proposed algorithm, the closed‐loop stability of the LTI system, and the avoidance of Zeno behavior are given. In multivariable industrial processes, the common distributed model predictive control strategy is usually unable to deal with complex large‐scale systems efficiently, especially under system constraints and high control performance requirements. Based on this situation, we use the distributed idea to divide the large‐scale system into multiple subsystems and transform them into the state space form. Combined with the output tracking error term, we build an extended non‐minimal state space model that includes output error and measured output and input. When dealing with system constraints, the new constraint matrix is divided into range and kernel space by using the explicit model predictive control algorithm, which reduces the difficulty of solving constraints in the extended system and further improves the overall control performance of the system. Finally, taking the coke furnace pressure control system as an example, the proposed algorithm is compared with the conventional distributed model predictive control algorithm using non‐minimal state space, and the simulation results show the feasibility and superiority of this method. Research on global harmonic mitigation against distributed and high‐proportioned nonlinear loads in modern distribution networks has received extensive attention. In this paper, a distributed compensation method for active power filters (APFs) is proposed, which utilizes a small number of APFs with adjustable reference to alleviate the global voltage distortion caused by a large number of distributed nonlinear loads. The model predictive control (MPC) is employed to calculate the optimal current reference for compensators at each optimization moment by predicting the system's performance in a certain future time period. Furthermore, the Kalman filter (KF) algorithm is used to estimate the initial harmonic voltage for the MPC, reducing the unfavorable effects of the model uncertainty and measurement noise. Aiming at the problem of performance degradation of flue gas acid‐making control system caused by system uncertainty and external interference, this paper presents a model predictive control scheme based on an equivalent input disturbance (MPC‐EID) for the temperature tracking control of flue gas acid production systems. First, a nonlinear Wiener model is established for the process, which can well character the nonlinear change of process temperature. Second, design the overall control strategy and complete the design of MPC and EID, the observer estimates the equivalent input disturbance, and compensates the estimated value in a feed‐forward manner to obtain the final composite control rate to achieve the rapidity, accuracy and robustness to the disturbance of the reference temperature tracking. Third, a rigorous stability analysis shows that the closed‐loop system is stable.
