Abstract Graphdiyne (GDY), a new 2D material, has recently proven excellent performance in photodetector applications due to its direct bandgap and high mobility. Different from the zero‐gap of graphene, these preeminent properties made GDY emerge as a rising star for solving the bottleneck of graphene‐based inefficient heterojunction. Herein, a highly effective graphdiyne/molybdenum (GDY/MoS2) type‐II heterojunction in a charge separation is reported toward a high‐performance photodetector. Characterized by robust electron repulsion of alkyne‐rich skeleton, the GDY based junction facilitates the effective electron–hole pairs separation and transfer. This results in significant suppression of Auger recombination up to six times at the GDY/MoS2 interface compared with the pristine materials owing to an ultrafast hot hole transfer from MoS2 to GDY. GDY/MoS2 device demonstrates notable photovoltaic behavior with a short‐circuit current of −1.3 × 10−5 A and a large open‐circuit voltage of 0.23 V under visible irradiation. As a positive‐charge‐attracting magnet, under illumination, alkyne‐rich framework induces positive photogating effect on the neighboring MoS2, further enhancing photocurrent. Consequently, the device exhibits broadband detection (453–1064 nm) with a maximum responsivity of 78.5 A W−1 and a high speed of 50 µs. Results open up a new promising strategy using GDY toward effective junction for future optoelectronic applications.

Objective: To assess the relationship between of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and the mood of prostate cancer (PCa) patients and partners of PCa patients., Methods: PCa patients (n = 295) and partners of patients (n = 84) completed an online survey assessing the patients' current mood and mood prior to treatment, relationship adjustment, and sexual function. We compared men on ADT to men who received non-hormonal treatments for their PCa., Results: Patients currently treated with ADT (n = 82) reported worsened mood as measured by the Profile of Mood States compared to those not on ADT (n = 213). The negative impact of ADT on mood, however, was reduced in older patients. Partners of patients on ADT (n = 42) reported similar declines in the patient's mood that patients reported, but to a greater degree than patient-reported levels., Conclusions: Our data support ADT's impact on PCa patients' mood and verify that partners concurrently see the effects. The psychological changes related to ADT can impact relationships and affect the quality of life of both PCa patients and partners. Patients and their partners are likely to benefit from being well informed about the psychological effects of androgen deprivation on men beginning ADT. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Objective: Prostate cancer and its treatments, particularly androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), affect both patients and partners. This study assessed how prostate cancer treatment type, patient mood, and sexual function related to dyadic adjustment from patient and partner perspectives., Methods: Men with prostate cancer (n = 206) and partners of men with prostate cancer (n = 66) completed an online survey assessing the patients' mood (profile of mood states short form), their dyadic adjustment (dyadic adjustment scale), and sexual function (expanded prostate cancer index composite)., Results: Analyses of covariance found that men on ADT reported better dyadic adjustment compared with men not on ADT. Erectile dysfunction was high for all patients, but a multivariate analysis of variance found that those on ADT experienced greater bother at loss of sexual function than patients not on ADT, suggesting that loss of libido when on ADT does not mitigate the psychological distress associated with loss of erections. In a multiple linear regression, patients' mood predicted their dyadic adjustment, such that worse mood was related to worse dyadic adjustment. However, more bother with patients' overall sexual function predicted lower relationship scores for the patients, while the patients' lack of sexual desire predicted lower dyadic adjustment for partners., Conclusions: Both patients and partners are impacted by the prostate cancer treatment effects on patients' psychological and sexual function. Our data help clarify the way that prostate cancer treatments can affect relationships and that loss of libido on ADT does not attenuate distress about erectile dysfunction. With increasing feasibility of predicting conversion of mild cognitive impairment to dementia based on biomarker profiling, the urgent need for efficacious disease-modifying compounds has become even more critical. Despite intensive research, underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain insufficiently documented for purposeful target discovery. Translational research based on valid animal models may aid in alleviating some of the unmet needs in the current Alzheimer's disease pharmaceutical market, which includes disease-modification, increased efficacy and safety, reduction of the number of treatment unresponsive patients and patient compliance. The development and phenotyping of animal models is indeed essential in Alzheimer's disease-related research as valid models enable the appraisal of early pathological processes - which are often not accessible in patients, and subsequent target discovery and evaluation. This review paper summarizes and critically evaluates currently available animal models, and discusses their value to the Alzheimer drug discovery pipeline. Models dealt with include spontaneous models in various species, including senescence-accelerated mice, chemical and lesion-induced rodent models, and genetically modified models developed in Drosophila melanogaster, Caenorhabditis elegans, Danio rerio and rodents. Although highly valid animal models exist, none of the currently available models recapitulates all aspects of human Alzheimer's disease, and one should always be aware of the potential dangers of uncritical extrapolating from model organisms to a human condition that takes decades to develop and mainly involves higher cognitive functions., (© 2011 The Authors.
