Abstract Diabetes is becoming a significant health concern in Asia, where the prevalence has reached alarming levels. An important contributing factor is the consumption of high‐carbohydrate foods, including rice, bread, etc. These high‐carbohydrate foods pose a major risk to public health due to their impact on postprandial hyperglycemia. This research aimed to formulate a chickpea pulao (cooked Indian–Pakistani rice dish) and to evaluate its effects on postprandial blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetic individuals. Antioxidant potential and total phenolic contents of herbs at different concentrations (1, 3, 5, 7, and 9%) were measured through DPPH and Folin Ciocalteu assays. The antidiabetic potential was tested by α‐amylase and α‐glucosidase inhibition assays. After sensory evaluation, the best‐chosen concentration was used to formulate the chickpea pulao. The study trial was advertised under “DP trial,” and 12 participants were recruited. A single‐blind randomized cross‐over trial was conducted for 3 weeks with a one‐week wash‐over time in between. Participants' preprandial and postprandial blood glucose levels were recorded for control and intervention recipes. Results indicated that both fenugreek seeds (FS) and Indian rennet (IR) showed good antioxidant and hypoglycemic activity (p = .000) in raw and boiled extracts. For DPPH, the IC50 values of unboiled and boiled combined (FS + IR) extracts were calculated as 7.4% and 8.02%, respectively. Similarly, for α‐amylase, the IC50 values of combined IR and FS unboiled and boiled extracts were 6.58% and 6.83%, and for α‐glucosidase inhibition assay, the values were measured as 14.98% and 16.24%. The single‐blind randomized cross‐over trial showed that consuming the intervention recipe significantly reduced postprandial hyperglycemia (p = .000) in type 2 diabetic participants. The intervention recipe decreased hyperglycemia by approximately 15% daily compared to the control recipe. Incorporation of hypoglycemic herbs into dietary patterns can work as an adjunct therapy for diabetes management, especially in populations with a high prevalence of this disease.

Abstract The present study was designed to explore the potential of fenugreek and flaxseed polysaccharide‐based edible coatings to enhance the postharvest storage life of apple fruit. The experimental plan involved the preparation of five different coating formulations, which were subsequently applied to the fruit. The coated fruit was then stored at a temperature of 25 ± 2°C for a duration of 35 days. The effects of these coatings on physicochemical and biochemical attributes (weight loss, firmness, acidity, pH, sugar content, antioxidant activity, microbial growth, and sensory properties) of coated and uncoated samples were evaluated at regular intervals: 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 days of storage. The experimental results revealed a significant difference (p ≤ .05) in the physicochemical parameters of uncoated and coated apple at different storage times. The coated apple fruits showed significantly (p ≤ .05) lower weight loss, pH, total sugars, total soluble solids, and maximum retention of ascorbic acid, firmness, acidity, and antioxidant contents, leading to enhanced organoleptic properties. The application of edible coatings extended the shelf‐life of the apples by inhibiting microbiological spoilage without substantial impact on sensory and nutritional properties. Based on these results, it is concluded that the edible coating formulation labeled T1 (containing 2.5 g fenugreek polysaccharide and 1.5 g flax polysaccharide) effectively preserved the valuable physicochemical and organoleptic characteristics of the apple fruit throughout the storage period.

Bearings are critical components in modern manufacturing, yet they are prone to failures in induction machines. Detecting these faults early can reduce repair costs. To achieve efficient and accurate fault detection, we explore vibration-based analysis. Traditional methods rely on manual feature extraction, which is time-consuming. In contrast, our work leverages deep learning, particularly convolutional neural networks, to automatically extract fault features from raw data. We investigate various image sizes (16 × 16, 32 × 32, 64 × 64, 128 × 128, 256 × 256) and their performance in bearing fault diagnosis. Our convolutional neural networks-based approach is compared to traditional methods such as support vector machine, nearest neighbors, and artificial neural networks. Results demonstrate the superior performance of our data-driven fault diagnosis using convolutional neural networks.

The lateral–torsional buckling (LTB) performance assessment of laminated glass (LG) beams is a remarkably critical issue because—among others—it can involve major consequences in terms of structural safety. Knowledge of LTB load-bearing capacity (in terms of critical buckling load Fcr and corresponding lateral displacement dLT), in this regard, is, thus, a primary step for more elaborated design considerations. The present study examines how machine learning (ML) techniques can be used to predict the response of laterally unrestrained LG beams in LTB. The potential and accuracy of artificial neural networks (ANN), based on ML methods, are addressed based on validation toward literature data. In particular, to detect the best-performing data-driven ML model, the load-bearing capacity of LG beams (i.e., Fcr and dLT) is set as output response, while geometric properties (length, width, thickness) and material features (for glass and interlayers) are used as input variables. A major advantage is taken from a literature database of 540 experiments and simulations carried out on two-ply LG beams in LTB setup. To determine the best-performing ANN model, different strategies are considered and compared. Additionally, the Bayesian regularization backpropagation (trainbr) algorithm is used to optimize the input–output relationship accuracy. The suitability of present modeling strategy for LG beams in LTB is quantitatively discussed based on error and performance trends.

Abstract Large‐scale multiple‐input multiple‐output (LS‐MIMO) is one of the promising technologies beyond the 5G cellular system in which large antenna arrays at the base station (BS) improve the system capacity and energy‐efficiency. However, the large number of antennas at the BS makes it challenging to design low‐complexity high‐performance data detectors. Thus, a number of iterative detection methods, such as Gauss–Seidel and conjugate gradient, are introduced to achieve complexity‐performance tradeoff. However, their performance deteriorates for the systems with small BS‐to‐user antenna ratio or for the channels that exhibit correlation. This paper proposes a new efficient iterative detection algorithm based on the improved Gauss–Seidel iteration to address this problem. The proposed method performs one conjugate gradient iteration that enables better performance with less number of iterations. A new hybrid iteration is introduced and a low‐complexity initial estimation is utilised to enhance detection accuracy while reducing the complexity further. In addition, a novel preconditioning technique is proposed to maintain the benefits of the proposed detector in correlated MIMO channels. It is mathematically demonstrate that the proposed detector achieves low approximated error. Theoretical analysis and numerical results show that the proposed algorithm provides a faster convergence rate compared to conventional methods.

Abstract The standard of care treatment for locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) includes both chemotherapy and definitive radiation. However, there are limited data on the optimal management of stage II NPC. We performed a retrospective analysis of the National Cancer Database to analyze the treatment patterns and role of chemotherapy in patients with stage II NPC. We identified 611 patients diagnosed with T1‐2, N0‐1, M0 NPC, from 2004 to 2013. Five‐year survival was calculated using Kaplan Meier (KM) analysis. Multivariable analysis and propensity matched analysis were performed to analyze the impact of chemotherapy on overall survival. Of the 611 patients, 527 underwent concurrent chemoradiation (CCRT) and 84 received radiation only. Unadjusted KM analysis showed improved 5‐year survival in the CCRT group compared to radiation only (80.5% vs 65.7%; P = 0.0021). Multivariable analysis also showed improved survival with the addition of chemotherapy (Hazard ratio [HR] 0.59; 95 CI 0.39‐0.89; P = 0.0124). Propensity matched analysis confirmed a significant clinical benefit from the addition of chemotherapy to radiation. Age ≥ 65 years (HR 2.41; 95% CI 1.71‐3.4; P = 1 (HR 2.82; 95% CI 1.49‐5.31; P = 0.0014) and positive lymph node status (HR 1.6; 95% CI 1.04‐2.46; P = 0.0340) were associated with worse survival. In this retrospective analysis, patients with stage II NPC had improved survival with CCRT compared to definitive radiation only. Elderly patients with comorbidities had worse outcomes.

A well-established distribution network is fundamental to the sound management of the green supply chain. To adapt to the market demand and policies for green products, it is urgent to build an efficient and rational logistic distribution network for the green supply chain. Many researchers have tried to design distribution networks through the coordinated optimization of the green supply chain, in the light of realistic situation. However, there are very few optimization models that consider all kinds of influencing factors. To solve the problem, this paper attempts to establish a coordinated optimization model of the complex system of the green supply chain distribution network (GSCDN). Firstly, the authors plotted the structure and game logic of the GSCDN and defined the upper limit of sales induced by the limited production capacity of producers. Secondly, the coordinated optimization conditions were configured for the distributor layer, producer layer, and market demand layer, and a coordinated optimization model was set up for the complex system. Finally, the contractual coordinated optimization mechanism was detailed for the complex system under the profit-sharing contract. The proposed model and solving algorithm were proved valid through experiments.

This paper presents a new miniaturized planar Vivaldi antenna (PVA) design. The proposed antenna structure consists of an aperture tapered profile and cavity stub fed with a simple 50 Ω strip line feeding network. The designed PVA offers versatile advantages, including the miniaturized size and simple design, and exhibited an outstanding performance compared to the latest reported literature. The antenna occupies a minimal space with an electrical size of 0.92λ0 × 0.64λ0 × 0.03λ0. The antenna achieves an excellent relative impedance bandwidth 117.25% at 10 dB return loss, peak realized gain of 10.9 dBi, and an excellent radiation efficiency of 95% at the specific resonances. The antenna’s optimal features, that is, broadband, high gain, and radiation efficiency, are achieved with efficient grooves based approach. Besides, the proposed antenna results are also analyzed in the time domain, which shows the excellent group delay performance

This paper presents a new design of a compact, high-gain coplanar waveguide-fed antenna and proposes a multielement approach to attain enhanced characteristics. The proposed method overcomes the simulation and geometrical complexity and achieves optimal performance features. The antenna prototype is carefully designed, and simulation results have been analyzed. The proposed antenna was fabricated on a new WangLing TP-2 laminate with dimensions (0.195λ × 0.163λ × 0.0052λ) at the lowest resonance of 9.78 GHz. The results have been tested and experimentally verified. The antenna model achieved excellent performance including a peak realized gain better than 9.0 dBi, optimal radiation efficiency better than 87.6% over the operating band, and a good relative bandwidth of 11.48% at 10 dB return loss. Symmetrical stable far-field radiation pattern in orthogonal planes and strong distribution of current are observed. Moreover, a comparative analysis with state-of-the-artwork is presented. The measured and simulation result shows a good agreement. The high-performance antenna results reveal that the proposed model is a good contender of military airborne, land, and naval radar applications.

The main intent of this paper is to innovate a new construction of modified Lupaş-Jain operators with weights of some Beta basis functions whose construction depends on σ such that σ0=0 and infx∈0,∞σ′x≥1. Primarily, for the sequence of operators, the convergence is discussed for functions belong to weighted spaces. Further, to prove pointwise convergence Voronovskaya type theorem is taken into consideration. Finally, quantitative estimates for the local approximation are discussed.

A rapid and sensitive RP-HPLC method with UV detection (262 nm) for routine analysis of adefovir dipivoxil in bulk and in pharmaceutical formulation was developed. Chromatography was performed with mobile phase containing a mixture of acetonitrile and phosphate buffer (50:50, v/v) with flow rate 1.0 mL min-l. In the range of 5.0-100 µg/mL, the linearity of adefovir dipivoxil shows a correlation co-efficient of 0.9999. The proposed method was validated by determining sensitivity accuracy, precision, robustness stability, specificity, selectivity and system suitability parameters.

Two selective and sensitive spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the estimation of adefovir dipivoxil in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations. Adefovir dipivoxil was subjected to acid hydrolysis and the hydrolysed product used for the estimation. The methods are based on the reaction with 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone in the presence of ferric chloride, to form a colored species with absorption maxima at 627 nm. The second method is based on the reaction of drug with 1,2 naphthaquinone -4-sulphonic acid sodium salt, under alkaline conditions which absorbs maximally at 454 nm. Beers law is obeyed in the concentration range of 5-25 µg/mL and 2-10 µg/mL respectively. These methods were extended to pharmaceutical formulations and there was no interference from excepients and diluents. The analytical parameters were evaluated.

The topography influences monsoon precipitation and gives rise to significant rainfall events in South Asia. The physical mechanism involved in such events includes mechanical uplifting, thermodynamics, small scale cloud processes, and large scale atmospheric circulations. The investigation into orographic precipitation is pursued by synoptic and model analysis. Deep convection occurs as warm moist airflow is channeling over steep mountains. WRF model coupled with Morrison double moment scheme is used to assess the relative impact of topography on extreme rainfall event of 26–30 July 2010 in Pakistan. Two sensitivity tests with full topography (CTL) and reduced topography by 50% (LOW) are carried out. Two distinct precipitation zones over Hindukush and Himalaya mountains are identified. The topographic changes significantly affect moisture divergence and spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation. A low level jet is created on windward side of big mountains, yielding enhanced moisture flux and instability. Eddy kinetic energy significantly changes with orographic height. Energy flux created further unstabilized atmosphere and deep convection, producing wide spread heavy rainfall in the area in Himalaya foothills. Under the set synoptic conditions, orographic orientation enhanced the moisture accumulation and deep convection, resulting in occurrence of this extreme event.

Background. Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune blistering disease affecting the mucous membrane and skin. In 50 to 70% of cases, the initial manifestations of pemphigus vulgaris are oral lesions which may be followed by skin lesions. But it is unusual for the disease to present with initial and solitary persistent lower lip lesions without progression to any other location. Main Observations. We report a 41-year-old woman with dry crusted lesions only on the lower lip, clinically resembling actinic cheilitis and erosive lichen planus, but histopathological evaluation showed unexpected results of suprabasal acantholysis and cleft compatible with pemphigus vulgaris. We treated her with intralesional triamcinolone 10 mg/mL for 2 sessions and 2 g cellcept daily. Patient showed excellent response and lesions resolved completely within 2 months. In one-year follow-up, there was no evidence of relapse or any additional lesion on the other sites. Conclusion. Cheilitis may be the initial and sole manifestation of pemphigus vulgaris. Localized and solitary lesions of pemphigus vulgaris can be treated and controlled without systemic corticosteroids.

The aim of this research is to evaluate arsenic distribution and associated hydrogeochemical parameters in 27 randomly selected boreholes representing aquifers in the Al-Kharj geothermal fields of Saudi Arabia. Arsenic was detected at all sites, with 92.5% of boreholes yielding concentrations above the WHO permissible limit of 10 μg/L. The maximum concentration recorded was 122 μg/L (SD = 29 μg/L skewness = 1.87). The groundwater types were mainly Ca+2-Mg+2-SO4-2-Cl− and Na+-Cl−-SO4-2, accounting for 67% of the total composition. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the main source of arsenic release was geothermal in nature and was linked to processes similar to those involved in the release of boron. The PCA yielded five components, which accounted for 44.1%, 17.0%, 10.1%, 08.4%, and 06.5% of the total variance. The first component had positive loadings for arsenic and boron along with other hydrogeochemical parameters, indicating the primary sources of As mobilization are derived from regional geothermal systems and weathering of minerals. The remaining principal components indicated reductive dissolution of iron oxyhydroxides as a possible mechanism. Spatial evaluation of the PCA results indicated that this secondary mechanism of arsenic mobilization may be active and correlates positively with total organic carbon. The aquifers were found to be contaminated to a high degree with organic carbon ranging from 0.57 mg/L to 21.42 mg/L and showed high concentrations of NO3- ranging from 8.05 mg/L to 248.2 mg/L.
