Here, we report that long-term stable and efficient organic solar cells (OSCs) can be obtained through the following strategies: i) combination of rapid-drying blade-coating deposition with an appropriate thermal annealing treatment to obtain an optimized morphology of the active layer; ii) insertion of interfacial layers to optimize the interfacial properties. The resulting devices based on poly[4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-b;4,5-b']dithiophene-2,6-diyl-alt-(4-(2-ethylhexyl)-3-fluorothieno[3,4-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate-2,6-diyl)] (PBDTTT-EFT):[6,6]-phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester (PC71 BM) blend as the active layer exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 9.57 %, which represents the highest efficiency ever reported for blade-coated OSCs. Importantly, the conventional structure devices based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):phenyl-C61 -butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) blend can retain approximately 65 % of their initial PCE for almost 2 years under operating conditions, which is the best result ever reported for long-term stable OSCs under operational conditions. More encouragingly, long-term stable large-area OSCs (active area=216 cm2 ) based on P3HT:PCBM blend are also demonstrated. Our findings represent an important step toward the development of large-area OSCs with high performance and long-term stability.

Surface plasmon resonances (SPRs) have been found to promote chemical reactions. In most oxidative chemical reactions oxygen molecules participate and understanding of the activation mechanism of oxygen molecules is highly important. For this purpose, we applied surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) to find out the mechanism of SPR-assisted activation of oxygen, by using p-aminothiophenol (PATP), which undergoes a SPR-assisted selective oxidation, as a probe molecule. In this way, SPR has the dual function of activating the chemical reaction and enhancing the Raman signal of surface species. Both experiments and DFT calculations reveal that oxygen molecules were activated by accepting an electron from a metal nanoparticle under the excitation of SPR to form a strongly adsorbed oxygen molecule anion. The anion was then transformed to Au or Ag oxides or hydroxides on the surface to oxidize the surface species, which was also supported by the heating effect of the SPR. This work points to a promising new era of SPR-assisted catalytic reactions.

Large-area nanostructured Ag/Ag-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) Schottky junctions are fabricated electrochemically on a mesoporous polyethylene terephthalate (PET) membrane-supported water/1, 2-dichloroethane (DCE) interface. When the interface is polarized, Ag(+) ions transfer across the PET membrane from the aqueous phase and are reduced to form metallic Ag on the PET membrane, which reacts further with tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) in the DCE phase to form nanostructured Ag/AgTCNQ Schottky junctions. Once the mesoporous membrane is blocked by metallic Ag, a bipolar mechanism is proposed to explain the successive growth of AgTCNQ nanorods and Ag film on each side of the PET membrane. Due to the well-formed nanostructure of Ag/AgTCNQ Schottky junctions, the direct electrochemical behavior is observed, which is essential to explain the physicochemical mechanism of its electric performance. Moreover, the composite PET membrane with nanostructured Ag/AgTCNQ Schottky junctions is tailorable and can be assembled directly into electric devices without any pretreatment.

In addition to their well-established self-renewal and multipotent differentiation properties, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) also possess potent immunomodulatory functions both in vitro and in vivo, which render them a potential novel immunotherapeutic tool for a variety of autoimmune and inflammation-related diseases. The major mechanisms may involve (1) the secretion of an array of soluble factors such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2 ), indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase (IDO), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), and human leukocyte antigen G5 (HLA-G5); (2) interactions between MSCs and immune cells such as T cells, B cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Recently, increasing evidence has supported that MSCs derived from dental tissues are promising alternative sources of multipotent MSCs. We here provide a thorough and extensive review about new findings in the immunomodulatory functions of MSCs derived from several dental tissues, including dental pulp, periodontal ligament, gingiva, exfoliated deciduous teeth, apical papilla, and dental follicle, respectively. The immunomodulatory properties of dental MSCs place them as a more accessible cell source than bone marrow-derived MSCs for cell-based therapy of immune and inflammation-related diseases.

Novel 4-amino-2-phenylquinoline derivatives were synthesized by reacting various 4-chloro-2-arylquinoline compounds having activated chloro group with the corresponding amide solvents at reflux for overnight. The activity of amination by the amide solvents depended on the competition between the steric and electronic effect of the N -substituents on the amino group. Their activities were shown as N , N -dimethylformamide> N , N -diethylformamide> N -methylformamide>formamide> N , N -dimethylacetamide> N , N -dimethylpropionamide. The yields for the amination products seemed proportional to the ease of the dissociation of the amides.
