Methoxyfenozide and metaflumizone are insecticides used on Chinese broccoli to prevent insects and increase yield. However, the residues are potentially harmful to the environment and consumers. In this study, the quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, safe method with high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry was modified and validated for determination of methoxyfenozide and metaflumizone in Chinese broccoli. The clean-up efficiency of different sorbents including C18 , primary secondary amine, graphitized carbon black, and carbon nanofiber was compared. Recoveries of the validated method were 71.8-94.6% with relative standard deviations of 1.5-3.2% and the limits of quantification were 0.01 and 0.005 mg/kg for methoxyfenozide and metaflumizone, respectively. A storage stability test showed almost no degradation of methoxyfenozide in Chinese broccoli, however, the degradation rate of metaflumizone was 22.9% after 10-wk storage at -20°C. In field trials in four producing regions, the dissipation of both methoxyfenozide and metaflumizone in Chinese broccoli was fast, with half-lives of only 1.0-5.1 and 0.7-2.5 days, respectively. Terminal residues after application of the two pesticides were all below 1.0 mg/kg after 5 days.

BACKGROUND Fluazinam is an effective fungicide in controlling gray mold, but has short duration of efficacy. Increasing application dosage may cause phytotoxicity. To overcome this shortage, a controlled-release technology was studied by encapsulating fluazinam. Ethyl cellulose polymer microcapsules were loaded with fluazinam to formulate a fluazinam capsule suspension (FCS). The efficacy for inhibition of B. cinerea and persistency of the FCS were examined by comparing with fluazinam technical concentrate (FTC) and aqueous fluazinam suspension concentrate (FSC) using microscopic observation and high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. RESULTS FCS formed capsules, with median size of 3.17 μm in diameter, had 82.3% encapsulation efficiency. It had a stronger inhibitory activity against B. cinerea than FTC and FSC measured 7 days after the treatments. The half-life of FCS on cucumber leaves was 3.4 days, longer than the 2.3 days of FSC. CONCLUSION FCS formulation significantly improved the inhibition of B. cinerea and resulted in prolonged and sustained release. Moreover, microencapsulation increased the duration of the efficacy of fluazinam on target crops. An elastic and safe electrolyte is demanded for flexible batteries. Herein, a stretchable solid electrolyte comprised of crosslinked elastic polymer matrix, poly(vinylidene fluoride‐hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF‐HFP), and flameproof triethyl phosphate (TEP) is fabricated, which exhibits ultrahigh elongation of 450%, nonflammability and ionic conductivity above 1 mS cm−1. In addition, in order to improve the interface compatibility between the electrolyte and Li anode and stabilize the solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI), a protecting layer containing poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) is designed to effectively prevent the anode from reacting with TEP and optimize the chemical composition in SEI, leading to a tougher and more stable SEI on the anode. The LiFePO4/Li cells employing this double‐layer electrolyte exhibit an 85.0% capacity retention after 300 cycles at 1 C. Moreover, a flexible battery based on this solid electrolyte is fabricated, which can work in stretched, folded, and twisted conditions. This design of a stretchable double‐layer solid electrolyte provides a new concept for safe and flexible solid‐state batteries., A stretchable polymer electrolyte is fabricated based on resilient copolymer and poly(vinylidene fluoride‐hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF‐HFP) with ultrahigh elasticity, nonflammability, and good ionic conductivity. A protective layer containing poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) is designed to protect the electrolyte against the anode and stabilize the solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) during cycling. A flexible solid‐state battery is prepared using this double‐layer electrolyte, which can light a light emitting diode (LED) bulb under different deformed conditions.

The synthesis of the key intermediate of rocaglamide, oxidative aglafolin, was studied, and its diastereoisomers were obtained. The amination of oxidative aglafolin was also investigated, affording amino derivatives. The preliminary bioassay results indicate that these new aglafolin derivatives showed certain degree of insecticidal and repellent activity against Plutella xylostella and Laphygma exigua.

Background Macrocyclic compounds with an oxime ether side chain, discovered in Wang's group, showed good fungicidal activity. However, the long synthetic route makes the cost too high for them to be developed further as practical fungicides. Alternative compounds with good fungicidal activity and an easier synthesis than the above-mentioned macrolactams were sought, and a series of 11-alkoxyimino-5,6-dihydro-dibenzo[b,e]azepine-6-one derivatives (4) were designed and bioassayed. Results The structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and LC-MS. The bioassay showed that about half of the 11-alkoxyimino-5,6-dihydro-dibenzo[b,e]azepine-6-one derivatives (4) displayed good fungicidal activity against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, with EC50 values

The effect of chemical treatment at fiber–plastic interface and fiber loading level on creep property of bamboo fiber high-density polyethylene (BF/HDPE) composites was investigated. For single modifier systems, the use of maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (PE-g-MA) as a coupling agent helped reduce the creep and achieved the optimum effect at the 5.7% loading level. The addition of either a semicrystalline or an amorphous MA grafted ethylene propylene rubber (sEPR-g-MA or aEPR-g-MA) as an impact modifier increased the creep. For the combined modifiers, the use of PE-g-MA in EPR-g-MA modified composites gradually improved creep performance. Four-element Burgers model was shown to fit measured creep data well only within the specified test period. However, both partially stretched Burgers (PSB) model and fully stretched Burgers (FSB) model could be applied for characterization and prediction when the stretching exponent was fixed at certain given values. The FSB model offered a better long-term prediction based on the short-term creep data. Time-temperature superposition technique produced smooth master creep curves through horizontal shifts, but it slightly over-predicted the long-term creep for most composite systems. POLYM. Magnetoresistance (MR) sensors provide cost-effective solutions for diverse industrial and consumer applications, including emerging fields such as internet-of-things (IoT), artificial intelligence and smart living. Commercially available MR sensors such as anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) sensor, giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor and tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors typically require an appropriate magnetic bias for both output linearization and noise suppression, resulting in increased structural complexity and manufacturing cost. Here, we demonstrate an all-in-one spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) sensor with built-in AC excitation and rectification detection, which effectively eliminates the requirements of any linearization and domain stabilization mechanisms separate from the active sensing layer. This was made possible by the coexistence of SMR and spin-orbit torque (SOT) in ultrathin NiFe/Pt bilayers. Despite the simplest possible structure, the fabricated Wheatstone bridge sensor exhibits essentially zero DC offset, negligible hysteresis, and a detectivity of around 1nT/sqrt(Hz) at 1Hz. In addition, it also shows an angle dependence to external field similar to those of GMR and TMR, though it does have any reference layer (unlike GMR and TMR). Composites based on high density polyeth- ylene (HDPE), pine flour, and organic clay were made by melt compounding and then injection molding. The influ- ence of clay on crystallization behavior, mechanical proper- ties, water absorption, and thermal stability of HDPE/pine composites was investigated. The HDPE/pine composites containing exfoliated clay were made by a two-step melt compounding procedure with the aid of a maleated polyeth- ylene (MAPE). The use of 2% clay decreased the crystalliza- tion temperature (Tc), crystallization rate, and the crystallin- ity level of the HDPE/pine composites, but did not change the crystalline thickness. When 2% MAPE was added, the crystallization rate increased, but the crystallinity level was further lowered. The flexural and tensile strength of HDPE/ pine composites increased about 20 and 24%, respectively, with addition of 1% clay, but then decreased slightly as the clay content increased to 3%. The tensile modulus and ten- sile elongation were also increased with the addition of 1% clay. The impact strength was lowered about 7% by 1% clay, but did not decrease further as more clay was added. The MAPE improved the state of dispersion in the composites. Moisture content and thickness swelling of the HDPE/pine composites was reduced by the clay, but the clay did not improve the composite thermal stability. 2007 Wiley Peri

HPLC and HPLC/MS are the most widely used analytical techniques in the field of pesticides analysis. In recent years, there has been considerable focus on fast separations in HPLC in order to reduce analysis time as well as cost. Monolithic columns, consisting of continuous beds with macropores and mesopores, can meet this requirement and have been widely used in the medical and biological fields. However, it has seldom been used when analyzing pesticides. In this work, the application of monolithic columns in pesticides analysis and their advantages are evaluated and compared with those obtained using conventional packed columns.

We report here on the characterization of a three-generation Chinese family with aminoglycoside-induced and nonsyndromic hearing impairment. Ten of 17 matrilineal relatives exhibited bilateral and sensorineural hearing impairment. Of these, nine matrilineal relatives, who had a history of exposure to aminoglycosides, exhibited variable severity and audiometric configuration of hearing loss. The dose and age at the time of drug administration seemed to be correlated with the severity of the hearing loss experienced by affected individuals. Sequence analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome in the pedigree showed the presence of homoplasmic A1555G mutation and 37 variants belonging to haplogroup D4a. Of those variants, the G7444A mutation is of special interest as the mutation at this position results in a read-through of the stop condon AGA of the COI message, thereby adding three amino acids (Lys-Gln-Lys) to the C-terminal of the polypeptide. Alternatively, the G7444A mutation is adjacent to the site of 3' end endonucleolytic processing of L-strand RNA precursor, spanning tRNA(Ser(UCN)) and ND6 mRNA. Thus, the G7444A mutation, similar to the deafness-associated A7445G mutation, may lead to a defect in the processing of the L-strand RNA precursor, thus influencing the phenotypic expression of the A1555G mutation. These data also imply that nuclear background plays a role in the aminoglycoside ototoxicity associated with the A1555G mutation in this Chinese pedigree.

A new heterogeneous cellulose tagged triphenylphosphine (Cell-OPPh3) was synthesized and subsequently coordinated with Pd(OAc)2 to form a cellulose-supported triphenylphosphine palladium complex (Cell-OPPh3-Pd). Cell-OPPh3 and the corresponding palladium complex were fully characterized by TGA, SEM, TEM, and NMR analysis. Results of catalytic activity experiments indicate that the Cell-OPPh3-Pd complex can efficiently catalyze Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl halides with arylboronic acids at mild reaction conditions. The coupling products can be obtained in good to excellent yields (up to 98%). An efficient copper iodide-catalyzed aziridination of a variety of alkenes with sulfonamides and sulfamate esters as the nitrogen source and iodosylbenzene (PhI O) as the oxidant is reported herein. The reaction is operationally straightforward, applicable to a variety of alkenes containing electron-withdrawing, electron-donating, and sterically encumbered substrate combinations, and proceeds under mild conditions at room temperature in good to excellent yields.

Primary cultures of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were pretreated for 16 h with either nonselective (staurosporine, 100 nM) or selective (NPC15437, 20 microM) protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitors. These inhibitors did not affect the basal cytosolic free calcium, [Ca2+]i, level (106 +/- 12 nM) as determined by fura-2 fluorescence methodology. Both agents significantly enhanced the maximal [Ca2+]i responses to endothelin-1 (ET-1) and attenuated the peak [Ca2+]i responses to arginine vasopressin and angiotensin II. They did not alter the EC50 values of any of these agonists. Since depletion of [Ca2+]o led to only partial attenuation of the enhanced response to ET-1 in the treatment groups, it is likely that PKC inhibition results in an exaggerated intracellular mobilization of Ca2+ to ET-1. It is concluded that PKC modulates agonist(s)-evoked intracellular Ca2+ mobilization and that the nature of regulation is governed by the agonist.
