Aim To analyze the clinical outcome and neuroimaging over a long duration follow-up in the currently largest series of acute encephalopathy after status epilepticus in patients with Dravet syndrome. Method Clinical and neuroimaging data of patients with Dravet syndrome with a history of acute encephalopathy (coma >24h) after status epilepticus from February 2005 to December 2016 at Peking University First Hospital were reviewed retrospectively. Results Thirty-five patients (15 males, 20 females) with a history of acute encephalopathy were enrolled from a total of 624 patients with Dravet syndrome (5.6%). The median onset age of acute encephalopathy was 3 years 1 month. The duration of status epilepticus varied between 40 minutes to 12 hours. Thirty-four patients had a high fever when status epilepticus occurred, and only one had a normal temperature. Coma lasted from 2 to 20 days. Twelve patients died and 23 survived with massive neurological regression. The median follow-up time was 2 years 1 month. Neuroimaging of 20 out of 23 survivors during the recovery phase showed diverse degrees of cortical atrophy with or without subcortical lesions. Interpretation Acute encephalopathy after status epilepticus is more prone to occur in patients with Dravet syndrome who had a high fever. The mortality rate is high in severe cases. Survivors are left with severe neurological sequelae but often with either no seizure or low seizure frequency. BACKGROUND Previous studies indicated that two-dimensional-susceptibility weighted imaging (2D-SWI) could serve as a useful biomarker for differentiating the grade of liver fibrosis. PURPOSE To evaluate the feasibility of 2D-SWI in the dynamic quantification of renal fibrosis in a rabbit model. STUDY TYPE Longitudinal study. ANIMAL MODEL Twenty-Four New Zealand White Rabbits including control group (n = 4); and renal fibrosis group (n = 20), by means of a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE The 3.0 T SWI using a 2D gradient-echo sequence. ASSESSMENT The relative SWI signal ratio(r) of cortical and medulla (r = SIrenal /SImuscle ) was longitudinally assessed before ligation and on weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8 following ligation. We report the preparation of organometallic side-wall complexes of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) under conditions, which allow the study of both mono- and bis-hexahapto SWNT coordination compounds [(η6-SWNT)Cr(CO)3, (η6-SWNT)Cr(η6-C6H6), (η6-SWNT)2Cr]. The results are interpreted in terms of exohedral and endohedral binding of chromium to the SWNT sidewalls and ligand competition reactions suggest that endohedral binding provides a very stable and kinetically inert mode of organometallic bonding. We demonstrate that the electrical conductivity of SWNT thin films are significantly enhanced by side-wall bonding to Group 6 transition metals (M = Cr, Mo, and W), which serve to reduce the inter-carbon nanotube junction electrical resistance by the formation of SWNT interconnects [(η6-SWNT)2M].

In this Perspective, we present an overview of recent fundamental studies on the nature of the interaction between individual metal atoms and metal clusters and the conjugated surfaces of graphene and carbon nanotube with a particular focus on the electronic structure and chemical bonding at the metal–graphene interface. We discuss the relevance of organometallic complexes of graphitic materials to the development of a fundamental understanding of these interactions and their application in atomtronics as atomic interconnects, high mobility organometallic transistor devices, high-frequency electronic devices, organometallic catalysis (hydrogen fuel generation by photocatalytic water splitting, fuel cells, hydrogenation), spintronics, memory devices, and the next generation energy devices.
