Background: The Saimiri sciureus represents a valuable resource for biomedical research, due to its large number on primate centers and similarity to human anatomy and physiology. The aim of this study was to apply the method proposed by Buchanan & Bücheler in healthy squirrel monkeys (S. sciureus) and determine by radiographic examination, the average value of the vertebral heart size (VHS) for the specie., Method: Laterolateral left (LLL), laterolateral right (LLR), ventrodorsal (VD), and dorsoventral (DV) projections were used for radiographic examinations to evaluate the heart silhouette of S. sciureus., Results: There was no statistical difference between the projections LLL and LLR, or VD and DV, and between males and females, so measurements in the four radiographic projections were not performed., Conclusion: The values obtained in VHS of S. sciureus showed up species specific., (© 2017 John Wiley & Sons A/S. Objectives: Marker chromosomes are relatively rare in the general population as its identification at prenatal diagnosis. In this article, we identified and characterized two de novo supernumerary marker chromosomes in a mosaic form at prenatal diagnosis., Methods: The two cases presented were detected during prenatal diagnosis at 17 and 15 weeks of gestation. The analyses were performed due to the advanced maternal age. In both cases, parent's karyotypes were normal. The identification of the marker chromosomes was possible by FISH techniques., Results: One marker chromosome was derived from chromosome 5 and the other from chromosome 6. Both children are well at the moment., Conclusion: The two cases described in the present paper, join to the ones already described in the literature. However these results are the first ones without any phenotypical anomalies, at least until the present. Every new characterization of marker chromosomes at prenatal diagnosis should be reported for determining a genotype-phenotype correlation, and thus be used for genetic counselling and risk evaluation.

The 5-substituted tetrazole ring was reacted in the gas phase with an acyl ion generated as the secondary reactive chemical ionization plasma in the mass spectrometer. The product ions obtained, among others, were proposed as the rearranged 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazole nucleus. Its structure was demonstrated by comparison of the product ion spectrum of the 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivative obtained by condensed-phase reaction and the product ion spectrum of the oxadiazole derivative generated in situ by reaction of the 5-substituted tetrazole derivative with the acyl plasma. It was proposed that the mechanism of this transformation involved the presence of an acylated tetrazole intermediary, which could not be isolated in the condensed phase, followed by the rearrangement, with nitrogen loss, to afford the oxadiazole derivative. Under our conditions we were able to isolate the intermediate ion in the first field free region and demonstrate its structure by collision induced dissociation-tandem mass spectrometry., (Copyright 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.)
