A half of online display ads are not rendered viewable because the users do not scroll deep enough or spend sufficient time at the page depth where the ads are placed. In order to increase the marketing efficiency and ad effectiveness, there is a strong demand for viewability prediction from both advertisers and publishers. This paper aims to predict the dwell time for a given 〈user,page,depth〉 triplet based on historic data collected by publishers. This problem is difficult because of user behavior variability and data sparsity. To solve it, we propose predictive models based on Factorization Machines and Field‐aware Factorization Machines in order to overcome the data sparsity issue and provide flexibility to add auxiliary information such as the visible area of a user's browser. In addition, we leverage the prior dwell time behavior of the user within the current page view, that is, time series information, to further improve the proposed models. Experimental results using data from a large web publisher demonstrate that the proposed models outperform comparison models. Also, the results show that adding time series information further improves the performance.

Industrial scroll decanter centrifuge (SDC) separation of the solids in fluid fine tailings (FFT) which have particles 10 μm and smaller in size require flocculant addition. Accordingly, the mechanism in the centrifuge is flocculation of the fine solid particles followed by sedimentation. Thus, feeding preflocculated material obviates the flocculation step inside the SDC resulting in improved process efficiency by reducing the power consumption and increasing the throughput capacity of each SDC. This work evaluated the separation performance of the SDC using inline static mixers to preflocculate oil sands FFT containing solids, 90 mass% of which are 97 % fines capture rate were 750 G without preflocculation and 400 G with preflocculation. Since power consumption by the SDC, as expected, was directly proportional to the G-force, the savings in power due to preflocculation amounted to 47 %. Preflocculation increased SDC throughput capacity by up to 50 %. Operating at lower G-force has the additional benefits of protecting the high-capital-cost SDC machine and reducing ambient noise levels.

MoS2 nanoscrolls are formed by argon plasma treatment on monolayer MoS2 sheet. The nanoscale scroll formation is attributed to the partial removal of top sulfur layer in MoS2 during the argon plasma treatment process. This convenient, solvent-free, and high-yielding nanoscroll formation technique is also feasible for other 2D transition metal dichalcogenides.

The mechanical and thermal causes of deformations of the orbiting and the fixed elements of oil free vacuum pumps are considered. Basic data for deformation calculation are geometric dimensions of the pump and dependence of working chamber volume on the orbiting scroll element rotation angle. Gas temperature and pressure values in each vacuum pump chamber are obtained with the help of a working process mathematical model. Deformation calculation is carried out by the finite element method realized in the software ANSYS. It is shown that deformations caused by pressure-induced mechanical forces do not have considerable influence on the change of radial clearances between the scrolls. They may not be taken into account for pumping characteristics calculation. Thermal-induced deformations are much greater, and the change of the clearances due to this cause may be 25 % and even larger. Methods for browsing Web pages using eye-gaze input have been proposed for severely physically handicapped people who cannot handle a computer mouse to utilize convenient services on the Internet. There are two important functions for Web-browsers, namely scroll and link selection. Since it is difficult to introduce existing link selection methods using eye-gaze input for home usage because of high costs or complexity, we propose in this paper a novel link selection method using eye-gaze input. The proposed method analyzes the HTML source in a Web page and makes a group of links by the content of each. In evaluation experiments, we compare the proposed method with a comparative method using eye-gaze input with respect to the average response time in selecting the links. The results of the experiments show that the average response is nearly twice as fast as that of the compared method. © 2014 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. In this paper, a multi-scroll chaotic system from the improved Chua's system is proposed. Moreover, non-linear dynamics are analyzed including phase-space trajectories, bifurcation diagrams, Poincare maps and so on. The most important thing is that we discovered phase-space trajectories, bifurcation diagrams and Poincare maps are unified and closely related, which can describe different aspects of the multi-scroll chaotic system. Furthermore, the corresponding improved module-based circuits are designed for realizing two to four-scroll chaotic attractors, and the experimental results are also obtained, which are consistent with the numerical simulations. We prove the existence of canonical scrolls; that is, scrolls playing the role of canonical curves. First of all, they provide the geometrical version of Riemann Roch Theorem: any special scroll is the projection of a canonical scroll and they allow to understand the classification of special scrolls in PN. Canonical scrolls correspond to the projective model of canonical geometrically ruled surfaces over a smooth curve. We also prove that the generic canonical scroll is projectively normal except in the hyperelliptic case and for very particular cases in the nonhyperelliptic situation. Scroll Waves in the Heart. Introduction: Rotating vortices have been observed in excitable media of different nature. Vortices may sustain life or kill in different species, by underlining morphogenesis in Dictiostelium discoideum during starvation, or arrhythmias during sudden cardiac death in mammals. Investigation of vortices in the heart has been limited by two-dimensional experimental techniques. In contrast, three-dimensional (3D) Belousov-Zhabotinsky excitable medium and mathematical models have been shown to sustain scroll-shaped waves. The heart is a 3D structure; therefore, scroll waves may underlie cardiac arrhythmias. Methods and Results: We used potentiometric dye and optical mapping techniques to study vortices during ventricular arrhythmias. The core of all observed vortices were linearly shaped and ≥ 9 mm (48 episodes, six hearts). As shown by Allessie et al. in the rabbit atrium, ventricular signals recorded within 1 to 2 mm from the line of block were dual humped, suggesting there is electrotonic interaction across the line of block. We hypothesized that the line of block represents epicardial intersection of ribbon-shaped filaments, which in some cases may be oriented under an angle or parallel to the epicardium. In 14 episodes we observed dualhumped optical recordings at one side of the line of block at a distance up to 12 mm. The two humps may represent the signatures of two activation wave fronts propagating above and below the filament, which in this area is close to the epicardial surface. The activation sequence of the two waves is consistent with the idea of a scroll wave with ribbon-like filament. Conclusion: Our data provide new insights into the shape and dynamics of the filament of the 3D scroll wave, which underlies the mechanism of ventricular tachycardia in the rabbit heart. The filament of the scroll wave may be ribbon shaped, with a significant width ≥ 9 mm and a thickness of 1 to 2 mm. No evidence of fully excitable cells in the core of vortex was observed.

To visualize heat transfer distributions in systems with complex internal geometries, an experimental technique using a combination of the transient method and the hysteresis effect of thermopaint was developed. A mercury compound based thermopaint was used as a temperature indicator. Features of the paint are its reusability and its hysteresis nature. Isothermal lines visualized by the thermopaint are preserved after the experiment by utilizing the hysteresis nature. Also heat transfer on those parts that are hidden behind other parts can be visualized. Effects of initial and air temperature on the measurement uncertainty were evaluated. N-double scrolls are chaotic attractors generated by Chua's circuit when its non-linear resistor characteristic is appropriately modified. They have recently been introduced, simulated and studied analytically by Suykens and Vandewalle. In this paper a new approach to generate n-double scroll attractors is introduced. They have been derived from a connection of three simple generalized cellular neural network cells called a state controlled CNN (SC-CNN). In this way it is established that n-double scroll attractors can be generated using an SC-CNN. The circuit implementation of the introduced system and some experimental results referring to the 2-double scroll attractor are reported.

SUMMARY An analysis of the erosion behaviour of a turbocharger radial turbine is presented. The solution domain includes both sides of the radial turbine scroll with double intake and the rotor channel. In the analysis a dilute gas-particle flow assumption is employed. The gas turbulence is defined by the k--E model. In solving the gas phase equations, the computer code Harwell-FLOW3D is employed, which is based on a finite volume formulation using non-orthogonal body-fitted structured gridding and a pressure correction method. The particle phase is described by a Lagrangian approach, while particle paths are computed deterministically, neglecting the turbulent dispersion. For the computation of particle trajectories the code PTRACK is employed, which has been developed at ABB. Computations are carried out for several particle size classes. The results show that particles are thrown back into the scroll by the rotor at high rates. This seems to be the main source of erosion effects in the scroll. It has been observed that particles are unequally distributed between the scroll sides on their re-entry, resulting in greater erosion on one of the scroll sides. The maximum erosion along the scroll is found to be likely to occur near the scroll end.

Only the diehards want to develop applications using basic window system facilities. The preferred approach is a higher-level “toolkit” of user interface components, such as menus and scroll bars. Experience with current toolkits shows the need for an object-oriented interface to these components. NeWS, the Network/extensible Window System, allows user interface components to be programmed in PostScript. Fortunately, object-oriented interfaces are natural in PostScript, and they have been used to create a toolkit with some novel properties. Techniques formerly developed in the theory of Poincare half-maps are modified and applied to the three-region piecewise-linear continuous dynamical system associated with Chua's circuit. Both transfer and return maps, induced by the trajectories inside the intermediate region in state space, are formulated as implicit equations. the boundaries of the domains of these maps are determined explicitly, using the method for calculating the initial points of touching trajectories subject to appropriate switching dynamics. A charting of the canonical parameter space of the dynamics that acts on the intermediate region is indicated. Among other things, this chart reveals the existence of new types of chaotic attractors different from the double scroll and Rossler attractors previously discovered from Chua's circuit.

We have developed a new type of glassy carbon electrode whose smooth surface with scattered craters reduces its polarization voltage. It has both excellent antithrombogenicity and slight tissue reaction. The energy threshold curve was the lowest when compared to the Siemens (411S, 412S) and the Solin (S-100) electrodes.

Largescale ripples in the meandering lower Wabash River of Illinois and Indiana, U.S.A., include scroll bars and three dunelike bed forms (dunes, sand waves, and transverse bars). Scroll bars are lobate crested, asymmetrical in stream-wise vertical profile, usually solitary, and oriented approximately normal to local channel strike. They form by passive flow expansion downchannel from locally emergent topographic highs, face and lie near inner banks of meander bends, enjoy a high preservation potential as leveelike ridges of ridge-and-swale topography, and migrate only during relatively low stream discharges, when water depth over bar crests is less than 0·5 m. Dunes correspond to dunes of the flow-regime classification and rarely are solitary or superimposed. Sand waves may be symmetrical or asymmetrical, are always superimposed by dunes, occur in depths greater than 4 m and in bed material coarser than 1 mm mean size, and develop at bankfull and flood flows. Transverse bars migrate in depths less than 5 m in straight reaches and near inner banks of bends, display crestal dunes, and correspond to the bars of Costello (1974) and to the sand waves of Boothroyd (1969). Hydrodynamic regimes of scroll bars and transverse bars differ from that of dunes. The omnipresence of dunes upon stoss-sides of sand waves confirms the existence of an equilibrium superimposition of dunelike largescale ripples. Depth-velocity-size diagrams appear to be a valid representation of empirical stability fields of dunelike largescale ripples in deep unsteady nonuniform aqueous flows. Stability fields of dunes and sand waves overlap greatly. Velocity profiles demonstrate an absence of leeside flow separation over dunes and an appearance (rare) over transverse bars only when the ratio of trough depth to crest depth exceeds two. Dune stratification displays (1) largescale trough cross-strata, (2) thinning of sets as bed-material size increases, and (3) an orientation within 20° of local channel strike. Transverse bars show avalanche sets up to 2 m thick, with reactivation surfaces. Scroll bars display thick avalanche sets separated by reactivation structures consisting of erratically oriented smallscale trough cross-strata. Avalanche sets of scroll bars and of transverse bars are oriented 50–150° from and within 50° of, respectively, local channel strike.

The scan-column index is a book-form coordinate index. Each document is entered at just one place, and the documents can be in almost any order. A document identification may be anything from a serial number to several dozen words of description, depending on the amount of space used. Speed of searching might be anywhere from several hundred to perhaps one thousand or more documents per minute, depending to a considerable extent on column density, which depends in turn on the amount of space used. Error and fatigue also depend considerably on column density. Some possible format variations are described. Advantages and disadvantages of the scan-column index are described and compared with some other common retrieval devices such as peek-a-boo cards, edge-notched cards, etc. A number of possible applications for a scan-column index are suggested. A motorized scroll form of scan-column index and its possible use for subject-searching microfilm reels are also suggested.

In recent work, two hypotheses were proposed to explain the formation of distinct scroll bars and subsequent floodplain ridges on the Beatton River. These hypotheses are reassessed here in the light of recent field observations, which suggest that an initial scroll bar may form around a stranded dead tree that acts as a sedimentation nucleus on a point-bar platform.
