Using high throughput tandem mass tag (TMT) based tagging technique, we identified 4,172 proteins in three developmental stages: early, mid, and late seed filling. We mapped the identified proteins to metabolic pathways associated with seed filling. The elevated abundance of several kinases was observed from the early to mid-stages of seed filling, indicating that protein phosphorylation was a significant event during this period. The early to late seed filling stages were characterized by an increased abundance of proteins associated with the cell wall, oil, and vacuolar-related processes. Among the seed storage proteins, 7S (β-subunit) and 11S (Gy3, Gy4, Gy5) steadily increased in abundance during early to late stages of seed filling, whereas 2S albumin exhibited a decrease in abundance during the same period. An increased abundance of proteases, senescence-associated proteins, and oil synthesis proteins was observed from the mid to late seed filling stages. The mid to late stages of seed filling was also characterized by a lower abundance of transferases, transporters, Kunitz family trypsin, and protease inhibitors. Two enzymes associated with methionine synthesis exhibited lower abundance from early to late stages. This study unveiled several essential enzymes/proteins related to amino acid and protein synthesis and their accumulation during seed development. To examine the feasibility of developing flame-retardant-textile coated fabric systems with electrospun polyamide/boric acid nanocomposites, fiber webs coated on cotton substrates were developed to impart-fire retardant properties. The morphology of the polyamide/boric acid nanocomposite fibers was examined with scanning electron microscopy. The flame-retardant properties of coated fabric systems with different nanoparticle contents were assessed. The flame retardancy of the boric acid coated fabric systems was evaluated quantitatively with a flammability test apparatus fabricated on the basis of Consumer Product Safety Commission 16 Code of Federal Regulations part 1610 standard and also by thermogravimetric analysis. The 0.05 wt % boric acid nanocomposite fiber web coated on pure cotton fabric exhibited an increment in flame-spreading time of greater than 80%, and this indicated excellent fire protection. Also, the coated fabric systems with 0.05% boric acid nanocomposite fiber webs exhibited a distinct shift in the peak value in the thermal degradation profile and a 75% increase in char formation in the thermooxidative degradation profile, as indicated by the results of thermogravimetric analysis. The results show the feasibility of successfully imparting flame-retardant properties to cotton fabrics through the electrospinning of the polymer material with boric acid nanoparticles. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2-DE reference maps of Heterodera glycines were constructed. After in-gel digestion with trypsin, 803 spots representing 426 proteins were subsequently identified by LC-MS/MS. Proteins with annotated function were further categorized by Gene Ontology. The results showed that proteins involved in metabolic, developmental and biological regulation processes were the most abundant.

Polymer matrix composites are a promising candidate in tribological applications due to possibility of tailoring their properties with special fillers. The comparative performance of Glass–Epoxy (G-E) composites with influence of synthetic fillers such as graphite (Gr) and silicon carbide (SiC) and biobased natural filler jatropha oil cake (JOC) was experimentally investigated. All the composites were fabricated using vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI) technique. The mechanical properties were studied in accordance with ASTM standards. The three-body abrasive wear studies were carried out with rubber wheel abrasion tester as per ASTM-G65 standard. Two different loads namely 22 N and 32 N with different abrading distances viz, 135, 270, 405, and 540 m are test parameters. The results reveal that addition of JOC in G-E composites has significant influence on wear under varied abrading distance/load. Further, it was found that SiC filled G-E composites exhibited better wear resistance compared to Gr/JOC filled G-E composites. L-valine (C5H11NO2), an essential amino acid of monoclinic space group P21, Z = 4 and lattice parameters a = 9.688 (2) A, b = 5.267 (1) A, c = 11.980 (2) A and β = 90.75 (1)° and of size: 6.0 mm across and 0.5 mm thick was crystallized in silica gel under suitable pH conditions by reduction of solubility method. Density measurement and single crystal X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the grown crystals. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) studies were made and crystal packing also discussed. A reinvestigation of the crystal structure of β-alanine was carried out. The structure is orthorhombic, space group Pbca, with eight molecules per unit cell. Cell parameters were a = 9.882 (2), b = 13.807 (2), and c = 6.086 (2) Å. Three-dimensional intensity data collected in a CAD-4 diffractometer using Cu K α radiation was used in the least-squares refinement leading to a final R value of 0.038. The average standard deviations in bond lengths and angles were 0.002 Å and 0.2°, respectively. The corresponding values in the earlier work of José & Pant (1965) were 0.01 Å and 0.6°, respectively. The positions of all the hydrogen atoms were located in the present study. The amino nitrogen forms three hydrogen bonds of nearly equal bond lengths and angles, with the oxygen atoms. The β-alanine molecules exist in the crystal as zwitterions.

L-Valyl-L-lysine hydrochloride, C11N3O3H23 HCl, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1) with a = 5.438(5), b = 14.188(5), c = 9.521(5) A, beta = 95.38(2) degrees and Z = 2. The crystal structure, solved by direct methods, refined to R = 0.036, using full matrix least-squares method. The peptide exists in a zwitterionic form, with the N atom of the lysine side-chain protonated. The two gamma-carbons of the valine side-chain have positional disorder, giving rise to two conformations, chi 1(11) = -67.3 and 65.9 degrees, one of which (65.9 degrees) is sterically less favourable and has been found to be less popular amongst residues branching at beta-C. The lysine side-chain has the geometry of g- tgt, not seen in crystal structures of the dipeptides reported so far. Interestingly, chi 2(3) (63.6 degrees) of lysine side-chain has a gauche+ conformation unlike in most of the other structures, where it is trans. The neighbouring peptide molecules are hydrogen bonded in a head-to-tail fashion, a rather uncommon interaction in lysine peptide structures. The structure shows considerable similarity with that of L-Lys-L-Val HCl in conformational angles and H-bond interactions [4].

L-Valinium picrate (C5H12NO2)+. (C6H2N3O7)–, a non-linear optical material from the amino acid family which has large second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency, was grown by slow evaporation method. Characterization of the crystals was made using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The functional groups and the modes of vibrations were found by using the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The second harmonic generation (SHG) conversion efficiency was investigated using the Kurtz and Perry method. The SHG conversion efficiency is 60 times higher than that of the standard KDP and 8 times higher than that of the standard Urea and the optical transparency was analyzed using UV-visible-NIR absorption spectrum. The structural features of the material leading to the large SHG efficiency are discussed. Microhardness and dielectric studies were also carried out. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. A new semiorganic crystal, L-glutamic acid hydrobromide, C5H10NO4Br (GHB) has been grown from aqueous solution. The single crystal X-ray analysis of the crystal showed that it belongs to the non-centrosymmetric P212121 space group with protonated glutamic acid as cation and bromine as anion. The back-bone conformations of the amino acid are in cis and trans form. The side-chain conformations are observed to be in gauche I / trans / cis / trans forms. The characteristic ‘head-to-tail’ hydrogen bonding interaction is observed through a chain C(5) motif. Further, the crystal structure is stabilized by an intricate three-dimensional hydrogen bonding network. TGA/DTA showed that the grown crystals are thermally stable upto 219 °C without any phase transition. The functional groups responsible for the various modes of vibrations were identified by using FTIR spectroscopy. UV-Vis-NIR spectra showed that the crystals have excellent transparency in the visible and infrared regions. This paper complements a recent study by Ramos-Rodriguez and Ruiz-Navarro (2004) that investigated the intellectual structure of the strategic management field through co-citation analysis. By using authors as the units of analysis and incorporating all the citations that are included in the Science Citation Index and the Social Science Citation Index, we trace the evolution of the intellectual structure of the strategic management field during the period 1980–2000. Using a variety of data analytic techniques such as multidimensional scaling, factor analysis, and Pathfinder analysis, we (1) delineate the subfields that constitute the intellectual structure of strategic management; (2) determine the relationships between the subfields; (3) identify authors who play a pivotal role in bridging two or more conceptual domains of research; and (4) graphically map the intellectual structure in two-dimensional space in order to visualize spatial distances between intellectual themes. Studies on thermal and optical properties are very essential for a nonlinear optical material. Photoacoustics (PA) is a recently developed non-destructive testing (NDT) tool for studying such properties. L-Alaninium maleate (C3H8NO2+·C4H3O4-), an organic non-linear optical (NLO) material was synthesized using submerged seed solution method and was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) and density. PA technique was used to determine the thermal parameters of LAM crystals. Moreover, possible phase transition analysis was conducted to ascertain the thermal stability. Single crystals of L-Prolinium tartrate (C5H10NO2)+ (C4H5O6)-, a new organic non-linear optical material of size: 15 × 10 × 10 mm3 were grown using submerged seed solution growth method. Characterization of the crystals was made using single crystal X-ray diffraction and density determination. Spectroscopic, thermal, optical and mechanical studies were carried out. These studies show that the crystals are thermally stable upto 161°C, transparent for the fundamental and second harmonic generation of Nd: YAG (λ = 1064 nm) laser and possess good mechanical strength. Second harmonic generation (SHG) conversion efficiency was investigated to explore the NLO characteristics of this material using Kurtz and Perry method and it was found that the SHG conversion efficiency is about 90% of that of the standard KDP crystals. Thermodynamic data for formation of Cu.C2H2+ and Cu+.C2H- complexes in aqueous CuCl-NH,Cl-HCl medium have been obtained by the potentiometric technique. The data are of interest in homogeneous liquid phase catalytic conversion of acetylene to various products.

Background Nevirapine has been widely used in pregnancy for its efficacy, low pill burden, bioavailability and rapid transplacental transfer. Concern about nevirapine toxicity during pregnancy has emerged over recent years. Objectives The aims of the study were to document the frequency of cutaneous and hepatic toxicity secondary to nevirapine use during pregnancy and to compare rates in women starting nevirapine during the current pregnancy with those in women who had commenced nevirapine prior to the current pregnancy. Design This was a retrospective, comparative, five-centre study carried out in London, UK, in 1997–2003. Methods All HIV-1-infected women who received nevirapine as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) during pregnancy were included in the study. Data on demographics, HIV infection risk, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) status, surrogate markers at initiation of therapy, other medications hepatitis B and C virus coinfection and clinical data relating to potential toxicity were collated and analysed. Results Fifteen of 235 eligible women (6.4%) developed rash and eight (3.4%) developed hepatotoxicity, including four with coexistent rash, giving a combined incidence of 19 potential cases of nevirapine toxicity during pregnancy (8.1%). Alternative causes of rash/hepatotoxicity were suspected in seven cases and only 10 mothers (5.8%) discontinued nevirapine. Of the 170 women who commenced nevirapine during this pregnancy, 13 (7.6%) developed rash and eight (4.7%) hepatotoxicity, a combined incidence of 10%. Only two of 65 women with nevirapine exposure prior to this pregnancy developed rash (3.1%). Conclusions Nevirapine-containing ART was well tolerated in this cohort of pregnant women. Although pregnancy did not appear to increase the risk of nevirapine-associated toxicity compared to published adult data, CD4 count may be less predictive of toxicity in pregnancy.

Films of polymer metal oxide composites with poly(methyl methacrylate) and metallic powders (CuO, Ni, and brushed Fe3O4) were prepared with a spin-casting method. Electric transport studies indicated that the compositions surpassed the percolation threshold limit. Alternating current (AC) conductivity studies confirmed a hopping mechanism with power-law behavior in frequency. For the first time, the mobility values of the carriers in these films were measured by the contactless microwave Hall effect technique with a bimodal cavity operating at 14 GHz. In this technique, a circular bimodal cavity is used to measure the change in the transmission coefficient (proportional to the carrier mobility) due to the application of a static magnetic field perpendicular to the microwave electric fields. The mobility measurements indicated a decrease in mobility with increasing quantity of CuO and Ni and showed an increase in the carrier–lattice scattering, whereas the mobility increased with increasing Fe3O4 due to the negative magneto resistance. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The adsorption of Chromium(VI) from aqueous solutions was studied on different commercial grades of granular activated carbon namely Filtrasorb F-400, F-300, F-200 and F-100. The adsorption of Chromium (VI) on F-400 carbon was found to be maximum in comparison to the other grades of carbon. The Chromium (VI) adsorption process in dilute aqueous solutions agreed with the Langmuir and Freundlich models and also obeyed first order kinetics. Metal sorption characteristics of as received activated carbons were measured in batch experiments. The maximum removal (60-65%) for different grades of raw carbon was observed at 25 °C with an initial concentration of 15.16 mg dm - 3 . It is evident from the study that granular activated carbon holds a particular promise in the removal of metal ions from aqueous solutions.

Multicast services have been used for many years to transmit multimedia data to large receiver groups. However, only recently have counterpart network services been introduced that provide similar scalability and anonymity in the opposite direction (i.e., messages from a group of senders destined for a common receiver). In this paper, we explore how these emerging services, specifically a concast service (many-to-one communication service), can be used to improve the scalability and performance of multimedia applications. In particular, we show how such services can be used in both the control and data planes to overcome well-known scalability problems (e.g., with RTP) that are difficult to solve effectively with end-system approaches alone. We validate our solutions by presenting experimental results taken from prototype video and audio applications we designed and implemented. Our initial results show a reduction of as much as two orders of magnitude in packet loss rates using these generic services.

Best conditions were established for the gel growth of three urinary crystals viz., calcium oxalate monohydrate, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate and ammonium magnesium phosphate hexahydrate. The crystals grown were characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques and density measurements. Crystal growth experiments were carried out by incorporating the extracts or juices of some natural products in the gel media. By carefully observing the changes in the growth of crystals (compared to control experiments carried out at the same conditions), results about the inhibitory or promotery role of the substance incorporated were obtained. It was found that the extracts or juices of many of the naturally occurring substances have interesting inhibitory or promotery effects. These results may have useful applications in the treatment of recurrent stone patients.

Hippuric acid [C6H5CONHCH2COOH], also called as N-benzoylglycine, an organic chemical constituent of urinary stone was crystallized in silica gel in our laboratory earlier. Electrospinning is one of the cheapest and upscalable techniques to mimic the structure of the extracelluar matrix of tissues and organs. Fibers of submicron and nanoscale dimensions were obtained by electrospining blended polymer solutions of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) and poly(propylene carbonate) using 1,1,1,3,3,3 hexafluoro-2-propanol and 2,2,2 trifluoroethanol as solvents. The resultant fibers were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and attenuated total reflection-fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. The fibrous scaffold had competent tensile properties and supported the growth and proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts and keratinocytes with normal morphology, thus proving its reliability in using it as a potential scaffold for skin regeneration. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Single crystals of sarcosine cadmium chloride were crystallised from a saturated aqueous solution containing stoichiomeric amounts of sarcosine and cadmium chloride, in 1:1 proportion. The intensity data were collected using a CAD-4 diffractometer with graphite monochromated MoK α radiation. The crystal data are as follows: a = 6.916(1) A, b = 13.855(3) A, c = 7.981(1) A, V = 764.1 A. F.W. = 272.4, d expt = 2.39 g.cm -3 , d calc = 2.368 g.cm -3 , Z = 4 and the space group is P2 1 /n. The structure has been solved to an R value of 0.023 for all the 1323 reflections with I > 2σ(I). The sarcosine molecule exists as zwitterion in the structure. The conformation of the sarcosine molecule is significantly changed due to the complexation of the molecule with cadmium chloride. The cadmium ion is found to have an octahedral coordination with both the oxygens of the carboxyl group of the amino acid and chlorines taking part in it. Since the complex has no water of hydration, only two hydrogen bonds of the types N-H..O and N-H..Cl are found.

The compounds LaBaCa 2 Cu 3 O y and La 1.1 Ba 0.9 Ca 2 Cu 3 O y are synthesised with T c values 25.5 and 26 K. XRD studies reveal the orthorhombic structure for these compositions. The high pressure electrical resistivity studies performed at ambient temperature on the system show a sharp drop with increasing pressure.

Five patients with NYHA Class III CHF received 5 mg of fosinopril on each of 4 days. Hemodynamics were measured with a Swan-Ganz catheter after dosing on day 1. Measurements of plasma fosinoprilat, ACE activity, renin, and aldosterone were obtained. An Emax model was used to fit the effect-site concentration and mean arterial pressure change. A linear model was used to fit the effect-site concentration and the pulmonary artery wedge pressure (PAWP) change. At steady state on day 4, AUC0-24 was 1668 +/- 476 ng.hr/mL and Cmax was 143.5 +/- 33.6 ng/mL. The mean elimination half-life of fosinoprilat was 11.3 +/- 0.7 hours, and median Tmax occurred at 3 hours, corresponding to maximum plasma ACE inhibition. Plasma renin activity was unchanged, and mean plasma aldosterone level declined. Emax modeling using fosinoprilat concentrations and mean arterial pressure showed good prediction of the pharmacodynamic effects from the effect-site concentration. A linear relationship was observed between the effect-site concentrations of fosinoprilat and PAWP. When expressed in an Emax model, the pharmacodynamic actions of fosinopril in patients with CHF are a reflection of its pharmacokinetics.

Single crystals of sarcosine barium chloride tetrahydrate were crystallised from a saturated aqueous solution containing stoichiometric amounts of sarcosine and barium chloride, in 2: 1 proportion. The intensity data were collected using a CAD-4 diffractometer with graphite monochromated MoKα radiation. The crystal data are as follows: a = 7.235(1)A, b = 10.668(4) A, c = 15.686(3)A, V = 1210.7 A 3 , F.W = 369.33, d expt = 2.02 g.cm -3 , d calc = 2.026 g.cm -3 , Z = 4 and the space group is P2 1 2 1 2 1 . The structure has been solved to an R value of 0.02 for all the 1239 reflections with I > 2σ(I). The sarcosine molecule exists as zwitterion in the structure. The barium ion is found to have 10-fold coordination with nine oxygens and a chlorine taking part in coordination. All the water oxygens and chlorines take part in hydrogen bonds except carboxyl oxygens.

The present paper deals with a method of construction of Partial Tetra-allel Crosses (PTAC) through Doubly Balanced Incomplete Block Designs (DBIBD) and its analysis by explicit expressions of symmetric sums approach. We have also established an inequality for the estimability of individual design components of variance in the Hinkelmann's double crosses model. A simulation study has been carried out to compare the precision of the estimates of genetic components of variance based on the two different PTAC with same experimental size. A list of DBIBD's will be useful in the construction of PTAC has given in the appendix.
