OBJECTIVES To compare the predictive performances of the prewiring, postwiring MI-SYNTAX scores, prewiring, and postwiring Updated Logistic Clinical SYNTAX score (LCSS) for 2-year all-cause mortality post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. BACKGROUND In patients with STEMI and undergoing primary PCI, coronary stenosis(es) distal to the culprit lesion is often observed after the restoration of coronary flow. To address comprehensively the complex coronary anatomy in these patients, prewiring and postwiring MI-SYNTAX scores have been reported in the literature. Furthermore, to enable individualized risk estimation for long-term all-cause mortality, the Updated LCSS has been developed by combining the anatomical SYNTAX score and clinical factors. METHODS In the randomized GLOBAL LEADERS trial, anatomical SYNTAX score analysis was performed by an independent angiographic corelab for the first 4,000 consecutive patients as a prespecified analysis; of these, 545 presented with STEMI. The efficacy of the mortality predictions of the four scores at 2���years were evaluated based on their discrimination and calibration abilities. RESULTS Complete data was available in 512 patients (93.9%). When the patients were stratified into two groups based on the median of the scores, the prewiring and postwiring Updated LCSSs demonstrated that the high-score groups were associated with higher rates of 2-year all-cause mortality compared to the low-score groups (6.6 vs. 1.2%; log-rank p��=��.001 and 6.6 vs. 1.2%; log-rank p��=��.001, respectively). There were no statistically significant differences for predicting the mortality between the prewiring (area under the curve [AUC] 0.625), postwiring MI-SYNTAX score (AUC 0.614), prewiring (AUC 0.755), and postwiring Updated LCSS (AUC 0.757). In the integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), the prewiring MI-SYNTAX score had a better discrimination for the mortality than the postwiring MI-SYNTAX score (IDI -0.0082; p��=��.029). The four scores had acceptable calibration abilities for 2-year all-cause mortality. CONCLUSIONS The prewiring Updated LCSS predicts long-term all-cause mortality with clearly useful discrimination and acceptable calibration. Since the postwiring MI-SYNTAX score does not improve mortality prediction, the prewiring MI-SYNTAX score may be preferred for the 2-year mortality prediction using the Updated LCSS.

Carbon based materials as one promising cathode to accommodate the insoluble and insulating discharge products (Li 2 O 2 ) for lithium oxygen (Li-O 2 ) batteries have attracted great attention due to their large energy density store ability compared with the other carbon-free cathodes. However, the side reaction occurring at carbon/Li 2 O 2 interfaces hinders their large-scale application in Li-O 2 batteries. Herein, a simple and cost-effective strategy is developed for the growth of core-shell-like Co/CoO nanoparticles on 3D graphene-wrapped carbon foam using 3D melamine foam as the initial backbone. This unique 3D hierarchical carbonized melamine foam-graphene-Co/CoO hybrid (CMF-G-Co/CoO) with a continuous conductive network and elastic properties is used as binder-free oxygen electrode for Li-O 2 batteries. Electrochemical and structural measurements show that a synergistic effect is observed between Co/CoO and graphene, where Li 2 O 2 grows on the Co/CoO surfaces instead of the carbon surfaces at the initial discharge state (500 mAh g total − 1 ), indicating the reduced carbon/Li 2 O 2 interfaces and alleviative side reactions during the electrochemical process. Importantly, the CMF-G-Co/CoO electrode can achieve greatly improved cycle life over the electrode without aid of the Co/CoO. Furthermore, it delivers a large capacity of ≈7800 mAh g total − 1 and outstanding rate capability, exhibiting the great potential for the application in Li-O 2 batteries.

Li-ion hybrid capacitors (LIHCs), consisting of an energy-type redox anode and a power-type double-layer cathode, are attracting significant attention due to the good combination with the advantages of conventional Li-ion batteries and supercapacitors. However, most anodes are battery-like materials with the sluggish kinetics of Li-ion storage, which seriously restrict the energy storage of LIHCs at the high charge/discharge rates. Herein, vanadium nitride (VN) nanowire is demonstated to have obvious pseudocapacitive characteristic of Li-ion storage and can get further gains in energy storage through a 3D porous architecture with the assistance of conductive reduced graphene oxide (RGO). The as-prepared 3D VN–RGO composite exhibits the large Li-ion storage capacity and fast charge/discharge rate within a wide working widow from 0.01–3 V (vs Li/Li + ), which could potentially boost the operating potential and the energy and power densities of LIHCs. By employing such 3D VN–RGO composite and porous carbon nanorods with a high surface area of 3343 m 2 g −1 as the anode and cathode, respectively, a novel LIHCs is fabricated with an ultrahigh energy density of 162 Wh kg −1 at 200 W kg −1 , which also remains 64 Wh kg −1 even at a high power density of 10 kW kg −1 .

Summary Aims: Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) exert favorable effects on the vascular system, which are not directly related to hypertension lowering function. The no-reflow phenomenon determines the prognosis in patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Early ARB treatment has many beneficial effects on the prognosis after AMI.
