Many women worldwide are physically and emotionally abused, and their children are exposed to violence as well, resulting in what has become a worldwide epidemic. The Millennium Development Goals Report 2013 adopted through the United Nations' Development Program recognizes the continued need for global efforts to empower women, reduce child mortality, and improve child health. This literature review of women's experiences while parenting during abuse revealed the utilization of parenting strategies to parent their child(ren) effectively in the most difficult and traumatic of circumstances. Recommendations from all of the articles caution not to remove the child from the mother, but to give both mother and child tailored interventions and a compassionate and empathetic understanding of what these abused mothers' parenting experiences are., (© 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Partner violence is associated with numerous negative consequences for victims, especially poor mental health. Children who are exposed to partner violence are more likely to have behavior problems. Nevertheless, research on the relationship between severity of abuse, maternal mental health functioning following partner violence, and child behavior problems is limited. We explored the direct and indirect effects on the child's behavioral functioning of severity of maternal abuse and maternal mental health functioning following abuse. A sample of 300 mothers was recruited when they sought assistance for abuse for the first time at shelters for abused women or at the district attorney's office. Severity of abuse, mothers' mental health functioning, and child behavioral functioning were measured by maternal self-report at entry into the study and 4 months later. In SEM analysis, at both entry and 4 months, severity of abuse had a direct effect on maternal mental health functioning, which in turn had a direct effect on child behavioral functioning. The path from severity of abuse to child behavioral functioning also was significant but became non- significant once maternal mental health functioning was added to the equation, indicating that the path from severity of abuse to child behavioral functioning was indirect and occurred as a result of the mother's mental health functioning, which remained directly linked to child behavioral problems. The aim of this concept analysis is to define economic solvency in the context of violence against women. Poverty, or lack of resources, is often discussed as a risk factor for intimate partner violence. The concept of economic solvency, which may be a protective factor for women, is less often discussed and not well defined. Databases searched for the analysis included EBSCOhost, CINAHL, PubMed and Gender Watch. The Rodgers evolutionary method was used to perform the concept analysis. A total of 134 articles were retrieved, using the specified search terms 'economic solvency and women', 'economic self-reliance and women' and 'economic self-sufficiency and women'. Articles were included if they were peer reviewed, contained the keywords with sufficient context to determine the author's intended meaning, and focused on women only or contrasted men to women. Thirty-five articles were used in the concept analysis. The definition of economic solvency drawn from the concept analysis is: a long-term state that occurs when there is societal structure that supports gender equity and external resources are available and can be used by a woman who has necessary human capital, sustainable employment and independence. Just as poverty and violence are cyclical, so are economic solvency and empowerment of women. To decrease women's risk of intimate partner violence around the world and further improve the status of women, we recommend continued research on economic solvency, including the individual, family, community and societal resources required to obtain economic solvency and the human capital characteristics needed for sustainability., (© 2014 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Aim: While parenting has been researched and explored in both the professional and public realms, elements of the current key constructs involving the positive parenting of a child are still missing. The aim of this article is to define the concept of positive or "good" parenting to further extend research toward child health promotion knowledge across disciplines., Methods: The Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was applied to this analysis., Sources: Published literature and Google search on the worldwide web., Conclusion: This analysis provides a definition of positive parenting. The key constructs found within this definition build a foundation for further research to develop measurable outcomes for positive parenting skills.
