Abstract

This paper presents a control strategy of large‐scale wind‐thermal power joint primary frequency regulation. First, an integrated control strategy is established rotor kinetic energy control and pitch angle control for wind turbine generators participation in frequency regulation within a wide range of wind velocity; Second, a fuzzy PI controller is designed for the recovery control of the wind turbine, which can avoid the occurrence of the frequency secondary drop accident during the wind generator exits the frequency regulation. Third, an optimal allocation power strategy of wind generator frequency modulation based on weighting factors is proposed in different operating conditions to make full use of the frequency modulation capability of wind turbine rotor kinetic energy control, and the strategy of orderly exiting the frequency modulation of the wind generators is established. Finally, the control framework for proposing the strategy is constructed to enhance the primary frequency regulation ability of large‐scale wind generators connected to power systems. The feasibility of proposing the strategy is verified by two examples. The results show that the presented strategy is able to heighten the characteristics of the power system frequency response availably and provide a reference for power system scheduling with large‐scale wind power.

Abstract

Background: Students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) were disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study's goal was to assess the effectiveness of 2 messaging strategies on participation in SARS-CoV-2 weekly testing., Methods: Cluster randomized trials were conducted at 2 school systems, the special school district (SSD) and Kennedy Krieger Institute (Kennedy) to assess messaging strategies, general versus enhanced, to increase weekly screening for SARS-CoV-2. Testing was offered to staff and students from November 23, 2020 to May 26, 2022. The primary outcomes were percentage of students and staff consented weekly and percentage of study participants who had a test performed weekly. Generalized estimating equation models were utilized to evaluate the primary outcomes., Results: Increases in enrollment and testing occurred during study start up, the beginning of school years, and following surges in both systems. No statistical difference was observed in the primary outcomes between schools receiving standard versus enhanced messaging., Implications for School Health Policy, Practice, and Equity: Frequent and consistent communication is vital for families and staff. Weekly screening testing within schools is possible and highlighted the importance of utilizing equitable protocols to provide important testing to students with IDD., Conclusion: Enhanced messaging strategies did not increase the number of participants enrolled or the percentage of enrolled participants being tested on a weekly basis., (© 2024 The Authors. Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this analysis was to examine the correlates of the physical and psychosocial domains of quality of life (QOL) in a cohort of breast cancer survivors participating in a weight loss intervention trial., Methods: Correlates of QOL and psychosocial functioning were examined in 692 overweight or obese breast cancer survivors at entry into a weight loss trial. QOL was explored with three measures: Short-form 36 (SF-36), Impact of Cancer scale (IOC), and the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial (BCPT) symptom scales. Available data included information on weight and physical activity, as well as demographic and medical characteristics. Multivariate analyses were used to identify associations adjusted for other characteristics., Results: In multivariate analysis, younger age was associated with higher negative impact scores (p < 0.0001). Hispanic, African-American, and Asian women had higher positive IOC impact scores compared with White non-Hispanic women (p < 0.01). Increased number of comorbidities was associated with lower physical and mental QOL scores (p < 0.01). Body mass index was not independently associated with QOL measures. Physical activity was directly associated with physical and mental QOL and IOC positive impact, and inversely related to IOC negative impact and Breast Cancer Prevention Trial symptom scales., Conclusions: Quality-of-life measures in breast cancer survivors are differentially associated with demographic and other characteristics. When adjusted for these characteristics, degree of adiposity among overweight or obese women does not appear to be independently associated with QOL. Among overweight or obese breast cancer survivors, higher level of physical activity is associated with higher QOL across various scales and dimensions., (Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.)
