Abstract

Abstract Here, based on thin film integrated passive device (TF‐IPD) technology, compact ultra‐wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) and dual‐band bandpass filter (DBBPF) with equal inductance configuration are proposed. The configuration of equal inductance in a circuit contributes to reducing variables, simplifying the physical structure, and shortening the debugging time in the TF‐IPD design process. Despite all the inductors being equal in value, a wide passband can still be achieved. The measured results show that the centre frequency of UBW BPF is 11.43 GHz, and the 3‐dB fractional bandwidth (FBW) is 133% (3.87–18.99 GHz). And the 3‐dB FBWs of DBBPF centred at 6.5 GHz and 16.2 GHz are 92% (3.51–9.49 GHz) and 35% (13.33–18.98 GHz), respectively. The stopband of UBW BPF and DBBPF can be extended to 47.7 GHz and 44.8 GHz in sizes of 321 µm × 856 µm and 235 µm × 846 µm, respectively (excluding measuring pads).

Abstract A flexible smart coating with electroluminescence effect was designed and fabricated on the surface of gas insulated switch gear (GIS)/gas insulated transmission line (GIL) epoxy insulators based on two‐step curing process. As the AC voltage increases, the luminous area on the insulator surface expands from the centre to the periphery, and the light intensity shows a linear relationship with the applied voltage. Besides, the flexible smart coating can effectively identify the location of metal particle defects and the degree of electric field distortion. The flexible smart coating enhances the surface flashover voltage due to its higher dielectric constant. Simultaneously, metal particle contamination can substantially reduce the insulation performance of epoxy insulators, particularly when they are located near the high‐voltage side. It is hoped that this study can provide a reference for the smart detection of surface defects GIS/GIL basin insulators.

Abstract

Abstract Objective Use of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations to measure the changes in upper airway geometry and aerodynamics during (a) an episode of Exercise‐Induced Laryngeal Obstruction (EILO) and (b) speech therapy exercises commonly employed for patients with EILO. Methods Magnetic resonance imaging stills of the upper airway including the nasal and oral cavities from an adult female were used to re‐construct three‐dimensional geometries of the upper airway. The CFD simulations were used to compute the maximum volume flow rate (l/s), pressure (Pa), airflow velocity (m/s) and area of cross‐section opening in eight planes along the vocal tract, separately for inhalation and exhalation. Results Numerical predictions from three‐dimensional geometrical modeling of the upper airway suggest that the technique of nose breathing for inhalation and pursed lip breathing for exhalation show most promising pressure conditions and cross‐sectional diameters for rescue breathing exercises. Also, if EILO is due to the constriction at the vocal fold level, then a quick sniff may also be a proper rescue inhalation exercise. EILO affects both the inspiratory and the expiratory phases of breathing. Conclusions A prior knowledge of the supraglottal aerodynamics and the corresponding upper airway geometry from CFD analysis has the potential to assist the clinician in choosing the most effective rescue breathing technique for optimal functional outcome of speech therapy intervention in patients with EILO and in understanding the pathophysiology of EILO on a case‐by‐case basis with future studies. Abstract

Abstract In this article, a three‐dimensional polarisation‐rotation surface (PRS) with reflective filtering response based on two orthogonally inserted coupled slot‐line is investigated, which can reflect a vertically/horizontally polarised incident wave by 90°. Each unit cell of the PRS is composed of a pair of meandered slot‐line sections with open‐short‐ends etched on the vertically and horizontally inserted single‐layer printed circuit boards. Under the incidence of a linearly polarised plane wave along the vertical/horizontal direction, the plane wave is converted into the guided wave by the open‐circuited end of the slot‐line section, and then the guided wave is obstructed by the short end of the slot‐line section and coupled to the other slot‐line section, thus leading to 90° polarisation rotation. To simplify the design procedure, a matrix coupling theory is applied to synthesise and design the proposed PRS. A sample with fractional bandwidth of 20% at the centre frequency of 5 GHz and return loss of 20 dB is designed, fabricated, and measured for verification. The measured and simulated results are in good agreement with the theoretical ones. The results confirm that the proposed PRS has low insertion loss, high polarisation conversion ratio, and stable filtering performance for oblique incident angle up to 60°.

Abstract

Abstract This article reports a new class of quadrature feeding network which integrates an asymmetrical phase shifter to obtain the compact size and wideband property simultaneously. By adjusting the impedance of two loading stubs, this asymmetrical phase shifter can realize 90° phase shift, impedance transformation, and phase slope alignment at the same time. Operation principle and design procedure for this introduced quadrature feeding network are provided with synthesis equations and design curves. By using the shape of Archimedes gradual‐change lines, the area of this circuit layout is fully utilized, and the overall size of the proposed feeding network is only 0.050λg2. Compared with a traditional compact design, this technique can effectively enhance the amplitude balance bandwidth by 1.7 times (from 58% to 101%) and phase balance bandwidth by 5.9 times (from 14% to 83%) as well as keep the circuit size nearly unchanged under the same conditions. To verify the design concept, two prototypes of the quadrature feeding networks are designed, fabricated, and tested. Good agreement between the measured and simulated results is achieved and they well reveal the attractive wideband equal amplitudes and 90° phase balance performance for this proposed new compact quadrature feeding network.

Abstract

Objective. Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a common pregnancy-related liver disease and is associated with an increased risk of adverse neonatal outcomes. Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is the most effective treatment. This study was aimed at investigating the adverse outcomes of ICP and evaluating the effects of treatment with UDCA in patients with ICP. Methods. We included 114 women with ICP and 3725 women without ICP (no-ICP group) who delivered in our hospital between September 2017 and August 2019. The prevalence of ICP in this study was 3.15%. We matched each woman with ICP to five controls. Of all the 114 women with ICP, 73 (64.04%) received UDCA while 41 (35.96%) did not. Logistic multivariate regression analysis was used to compare the adverse outcomes between those with ICP and matched controls as well as between those who received UDCA (UDCA group) and those who did not (non-UDCA group). Results. Compared with controls, women with ICP were more likely to have preeclampsia (adjusted odds ratio, aOR=16.74, 95% CI 5.29–52.98), cesarean section (aOR=1.76, 95% CI 1.10–2.81), and preterm birth (aOR=24.35, 95% CI 2.74–216.67). Administration of UDCA reduced the rate of preterm birth (1.37% vs. 14.63%, aOR=0.10, 95% CI 0.01–0.90). Conclusion. ICP increased the risk of preeclampsia, cesarean section, and preterm birth. UDCA could reduce the rate of preterm birth.

Abstract

Food safety is veryimportant in our daily life. In food processing or disinfection, microorganisms are commonly exposed to oxidative stress perturbations. However, microorganisms can adapt and respond to physicochemical interventions, leading to difficulty and complexity for food safety assurance. Therefore, understanding the response mechanisms of microbes and providing an overview of the responses under oxidative stress conditions are beneficial for ensuring food safety for the industry. The current review takes the metabolomics approach to reveal small metabolite signatures and key pathway alterations during oxidative stress at the molecular and technical levels. These alterations are involved in primary oxidative stress responses due to inactivation treatments such as using hypochlorite (HOCl), hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ), electrolyzed water (EW), irradiation, pulsed light (PL), electron beam (EB), and secondary oxidative stress responses due to exposures to excessive conditions such as heat, pressure, acid, and alkaline. Details on the putative origin of exogenous or endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) are discussed, with particular attention paid to their effects on lipid, amino acid, nucleotide, and carbohydrate metabolism. In addition, mechanisms on counteracting oxidative stresses, stabilization of cell osmolality as well as energy provision for microbes to survive are also discussed.

Two-dimensional metal-organic nanosheets (2D MONs) are an emerging class of ultrathin, porous, and crystalline materials. The organic/inorganic hybrid nature offers MONs distinct advantages over other inorganic nanosheets in terms of diversity of organic ligands and metal notes. Compared to bulk three-dimensional metal-organic frameworks, 2D MONs possess merits of high density and readily accessible catalytic sites, reduced diffusion pathways for reactants/products, and fast electron transport. These features endow MONs with enhanced physical/chemical properties and are ideal for heterogeneous catalysis. Abstract

Rapid capture of 129 I with high volatility and toxicity in the environment has attracted much attention. Herein we reported a firstly synthesized nonporous material: pyridine N-oxides (NTPO and ATPO) as iodine adsorbent. Both of NTPO and ATPO exhibit remarkable performance on the adsorption of iodine in aqueous solution, vapor state and organic solvents. Upon the capture of iodine, pyridine N-oxides were transformed to binary cocrystals combined with the pyridine N-oxides and iodine which is driven by halogen bond between iodine and oxygen atoms. Moreover, pyridine N-oxides shows high chemical, thermal and moisture stability.
