Abstract Background The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of marking methods on the outcomes of body composition analysis and provide guidance for the selection of marking methods in mouse body composition analysis. Methods Male C57BL/6J mice aged 6 weeks were randomly assigned for pre‐ and post‐ ear tagging measurements. The body composition of the mice was measured using a small animal body composition analyzer, which provided measurements of the mass of fat, lean, and free fluid. Then, the mass of fat, lean and free fluid to body weight ratio was gained. Further data analysis was conducted to obtain the range and coefficient of variation in body composition measurements for each mouse. The distribution of fat and lean tissue in the mice was also analyzed by comparing the fat‐to‐lean ratio. Results (1) The mass of all body composition components in the ear tagging group was significantly lower than that in the control group. (2) There was a significant increase in the range and coefficient of variation of body composition measurements between the ear tagging group and the control group. (3) The fat‐to‐lean ratio in the ear tagging group was significantly lower than that in the control group. Conclusions Ear tagging significantly lowered the results of body composition analysis in mice and higher the results of measurement error. Therefore, ear tagging should be avoided as much as possible when conducting body composition analysis experiments in mice.

Abstract The present study aimed to prepare and evaluate a new probiotic functional beverage, using single‐probiotic and compound probiotic fermentation on okara. Four different forms of fermentation microorganisms used were Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus S24 (Lr), Lacticaseibacillus paracasei 6244 (Lp), Lactobacillus acidophilus 11,073 (La), and mixed fermentation (Lr + Lp + La). The physicochemical properties, antioxidant activity, flavor change, and storage period of fermented okara beverages with probiotics were investigated. The results showed that different fermentation schemes could significantly improve the physicochemical properties, antioxidant activity, and sensory quality of the okara beverages. The number of viable bacteria in the Lp group (3.53 × 108 CFU/mL), isoflavone content (0.514 μg/mL) were the highest; total phenol and flavonoid content were 3.32 and 5.68 times higher than in the CK group, respectively. Abstract Engineering porous organic polymers (POPs) into 1D morphology holds significant promise for diverse applications due to their exceptional processability and increased surface contact for enhanced interactions with guest molecules. This article reviews the latest developments in nanofibrous POPs and their derivatives, encompassing porous organic polymer nanofibers, their composites, and POPs‐derived carbon nanofibers. The review delves into the design and fabrication strategies, elucidates the formation mechanisms, explores their functional attributes, and highlights promising applications. The first section systematically outlines two primary fabrication approaches of nanofibrous POPs, i.e., direct bulk synthesis and electrospinning technology. Both routes are discussed and compared in terms of template utilization and post‐treatments. Next, performance of nanofibrous POPs and their derivatives are reviewed for applications including water treatment, water/oil separation, gas adsorption, energy storage, heterogeneous catalysis, microwave absorption, and biomedical systems. Finally, highlighting existent challenges and offering future prospects of nanofibrous POPs and their derivatives are concluded.

Abstract Focal and systemic infections are serious threats to human health. Preclinical models enable the development of new drugs and therapeutic regimens. In vivo, animal bioluminescence (BL) imaging has been used with bacterial reporter strains to evaluate antimicrobial treatment effects. However, high‐sensitivity bioluminescent systems are required because of the limited tissue penetration and low brightness of the BL signals of existing approaches. Here, we report that NanoLuc (Nluc) showed better performance than LuxCDABE in bacteria. However, the retention rate of plasmid constructs in bacteria was low. To construct stable Staphylococcus aureus reporter strains, a partner protein enolase (Eno) was identified by screening of S. aureus strain USA300 for fusion expression of Nluc‐based luciferases, including Nluc, Teluc, and Antares2. Different substrates, such as hydrofurimazine (HFZ), furimazine (FUR), and diphenylterazine (DTZ), were used to optimize a stable reporter strain/substrate pair for BL imaging. S. aureus USA300/Eno‐Antares2/HFZ produced the highest number of photons of orange‐red light in vitro and enabled sensitive BL tracking of S. aureus in vivo, with sensitivities of approximately 10 CFU from mouse skin and 750 CFU from mouse kidneys. USA300/Eno‐Antares2/HFZ was a powerful combination based on the longitudinal evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy of antibiotics. The optimized S. aureus Eno‐Antares2/HFZ pair provides a technological advancement for the in vivo evaluation of antimicrobial treatment.

Abstract Objective The prevalence of prebiotic has increased substantially over the past decades. Little is known on its metabolic effects in zoo herbivores. We investigated the difference in faecal metabolites to characterize the composition and pathways involved after feeding inulin in zoo Baird's tapirs (Tapirus bairdii). Methods Faecal samples were collected from before inulin treatment group and after treatment groups in six adult tapirs and analysed using untargeted liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry methods. The differential metabolites identified and metabolic pathways involved were analysed using KEGG annotation. Results The results demonstrated significant alterations in faecal metabolites and metabolic pathways in comparison to the control group. The amounts of differential metabolites and metabolic pathways tended to enrich with time after the treatment. We found that tryptophan and purine metabolism were relevant to the important metabolic pathways of the metabolite differences. Conclusions The findings suggest that inulin may have potential applications in captive wildlife, which may provide insights into the effects of prebiotic supplementation on gut metabolites and highlights further research in this field.

Abstract Stem cells play critical roles in cell therapies and tissue engineering for nerve repair. However, achieving effective delivery of high cell density remains a challenge. Here, a novel cell delivery platform termed the hyper expansion scaffold (HES) is developed to enable high cell loading. HES facilitated self‐promoted and efficient cell absorption via a dual driving force model. In vitro tests revealed that the HES rapidly expanded 80‐fold in size upon absorbing 2.6 million human amniotic epithelial stem cells (hAESCs) within 2 min, representing over a 400% increase in loading capacity versus controls. This enhanced uptake benefited from macroscopic swelling forces as well as microscale capillary action. In spinal cord injury (SCI) rats, HES–hAESCs promoted functional recovery and axonal projection by reducing neuroinflammation and improving the neurotrophic microenvironment surrounding the lesions. In summary, the dual driving forces model provides a new rationale for engineering hydrogel scaffolds to facilitate self‐promoted cell absorption. The HES platform demonstrates great potential as a powerful and efficient vehicle for delivering high densities of hAESCs to promote clinical treatment and repair of SCI.

Abstract Purpose Cognitive impairment is a critical complication of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, effective interventions are lacking. Growing evidence demonstrates that c‐Jun N‐terminal kinase (JNK)‐mediated neuroinflammation is involved in the development of ARDS. Therefore, we hypothesized that the JNK pathway is involved in ARDS‐induced cognitive impairment. Methods An in vivo rat model of ARDS was established by treating it with lipopolysaccharide. The cognitive function was assessed by behavioral tests. The levels of pro‐inflammatory cytokines, JNK and NOD‐, LRR‐, and pyrin domain‐containing protein 3 (NLRP3) were analyzed by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay, western blot, or immunohistochemical analysis. Results We found that JNK inhibitor 8 (JNK‐IN‐8) alleviated cognitive impairment, neuroinflammation, and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in the ARDS rat model. Additionally, an in vivo study showed that the protective effect of JNK‐IN‐8 on cognitive impairment was blocked by nigericin, an NLRP3 activator. Conclusions Our data suggest that JNK‐IN‐8 treatment improves ARDS‐induced cognitive impairment by inhibiting the JNK/nuclear factor‐κB‐mediated NLRP3 inflammasome.

Abstract The linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control for a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) under false data injection attacks is studied. The LQG control depends on optimal state estimation, while this type of attacks makes the optimal state estimation unimplementable in practice. To address this problem, the authors prose a framework to detect attacks and then augment the information for controller design. Based on this framework, the LQG control is designed and a sufficient condition for the security of the closed‐loop control system is given. Finally, the LQG controller is applied to a quadrotor UAV, and some experiments are carried out to illustrate its effectiveness.

Abstract The pursuit of sustainable energy has a great request for advanced energy storage devices. Lithium metal batteries are regarded as a potential electrochemical storage system because of the extremely high capacity and the most negative electrochemical potential of lithium metal anode. Dead lithium formed in the stripping process significantly contributes to the low efficiency and short lifespan of rechargeable lithium metal batteries. This review displays a critical review on the current research status about the stripping electrochemistry of lithium metal anode. The significance of stripping process to a robust lithium metal anode is emphasized. The stripping models in different electrochemical scenarios are discussed. Specific attention is paid to the understanding for the electrochemical principles of atom diffusion, electrochemical reaction, ion diffusion in solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), and electron transfer with the purpose to strengthen the insights into the behavior of lithium electrode stripping. The factors affecting stripping processes and corresponding solutions are summarized and categorized as follows: surface physics, SEI, operational and external factors. This review affords fresh insights to explore the lithium anode and design robust lithium metal batteries based on the comprehensive understanding of the stripping electrochemistry.

Abstract The yields, properties, and bioactivities of polysaccharides extracted by three methods from soybean hulls (SSCPs) were evaluated: hot water extraction (H‐SSCP), microwave‐assisted ammonium oxalate extraction (A‐SSCP), and microwave‐assisted sodium citrate extraction (S‐SSCP). A‐SSCP gave the highest yield of polysaccharides (9.3 ± 0.5%) although all three products had similar physicochemical characteristics and FT‐IR spectra. A‐SSCP and S‐SSCP produced polysaccharides with lower molecular weight distributions and higher total reducing power and scavenging ability for ABTS+• and DPPH• free radicals. Furthermore, the effect of SSCPs on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)‐induced liver injury was investigated in the mice. Abstract Lithium ion battery has achieved great success in portable electronics and even recently electronic vehicles since its commercialization in 1990s. However, lithium‐ion batteries are confronted with several issues in terms of the sustainable development such as the high price of raw materials and electronic products, the emerging safety accidents, etc. The recent progresses are herein emphasized on lithium batteries for energy storage to clearly understand the sustainable energy chemistry and emerging energy materials. The Perspective presents novel lithium‐ion batteries developed with the aims of enhancing the electrochemical performance and sustainability of energy storage systems. First, revolutionary material chemistries, including novel low‐cobalt cathode, organic electrode, and aqueous electrolyte, are discussed. Then, the characteristics of safety performance are analyzed and strategies to enhance safety are subsequently evaluated. Battery recycling is considered as the key factor for a sustainable society and related technologies are present as well. Finally, conclusion and outlook are drawn to shed lights on the further development of sustainable lithium‐ion batteries.

In order to solve the problems of high consumption cost and long transportation and distribution cycle of cross-border logistics, a control optimization design method of radio frequency identification technology in the express logistics distribution system of the Internet of Things is proposed. The details of the method are RFID positioning technology, laser ranging technology, RFID and laser fusion positioning feasibility analysis, and moving target state estimation. The experimental results show that when the phase shift threshold φ and the included angle of the antenna are 90°, the error can be reduced to 0.36 m, and the recognition rate can be increased to 94.8%. The simulation results show that, on the premise of meeting the customer’s expectation of timeliness, the actual logistics distribution cost is significantly lower than the customer’s expected logistics distribution cost, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Objectives. We aimed to evaluate the effects of Enhancer of Zeste Homolog 2 (EZH2) on regulation of macrophage migration and expression of anti-inflammatory genes in pulpitis. Methods. Dental pulp inflammation was verified by histology in rat pulpitis model induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Immunohistochemistry staining was used to detect changes of the expression of EZH2 and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in dental pulp inflammation. The expression of EZH2, CCL2, and cluster of differentiation 68 (CD68: macrophage surface marker) was measured by immunofluorescence staining. The effect of EZH2 on microphage migration was assessed by cell migration assay. The expressions of anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukins (IL-4 and IL-10) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) in HDPCs which were treated by EZH2 complex, CCL2 complex, and CCL2 antibody were examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR). Results. The expression of TNF-α gradually increased in dental pulp inflammation. The expression of EZH2 in dental pulp decreased in 8 hours after LPS stimulation. However, the expression of EZH2 gradually increased in dental pulp after 1 day stimulation by LPS. The results of immunofluorescence staining showed that the expressions of EZH2, CCL2, and CD68 were significantly upregulated in dental pulp inflammation of rats. EZH2 could enhance macrophage migration. And the chemotactic activity of macrophages exposed to supernatants of EZH2-treated HDPCs could be inhibited by CCL2 inhibition. In addition, EZH2 suppressed the expression of anti-inflammatory genes, but CCL2 inhibition reversed the downregulation of anti-inflammatory factors, including IL-4 and TGF-β in HDPCs. Conclusions. EZH2 might affect chemotaxis of macrophages and the expression of anti-inflammatory factors by regulating CCL2. EZH2 plays an important role in the development of dental pulp inflammation, and it might be as a target for treatment of pulpitis.

Abstract Introduction Dominance hierarchies of social animal groups are very sensitive to stress. Stress experienced prior to social interactions between conspecifics may be a determinant of their future social dynamics. Additionally, long‐term occupancy of a specific hierarchical rank can have psychophysiological effects which increase vulnerability to future stressors. Methods We aimed to delineate differential effects of stress acting before or after hierarchy formation. We studied whether exposure to the chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) paradigm before a two‐week‐long hierarchy formation affected the attainment of a dominant status using the social confrontation tube test (TT). These animals were singly housed for at least one week before CSDS to decrease confounding effects of prior hierarchy experience. Additionally, we investigated whether social rank predicted vulnerability to CSDS, measured by a social interaction test. Results In TT, mice termed as dominant (high rank) win the majority of social confrontations, while the subordinates (low rank) lose more often. Within newly established hierarchies of stress‐naïve mice, the subordinate, but not dominant, mice exhibited significantly greater avoidance of novel social targets. However, following exposure to CSDS, both lowest‐ and highest‐ranked mice exhibited susceptibility to stress as measured by decreased interactions with a novel social target. In contrast, after CSDS, both stress‐susceptible (socially avoidant) and stress‐resilient (social) mice were able to attain dominant ranks in newly established hierarchies. Conclusion These results suggest that the response to CSDS did not determine social rank in new cohorts, but low‐status mice in newly established groups exhibited lower sociability to novel social targets. Interestingly, exposure of a hierarchical social group to chronic social stress led to stress susceptibility in both high‐ and low‐status mice as measured by social interaction.

In this paper, a heterogeneous diffusive prey-predator system is first proposed and then studied analytically and numerically. Some sufficient conditions are derived, including permanence and extinction of system and the boundedness of the solution. The existence of periodic solution and its stability are discussed as well. Furthermore, numerical results indicate that both the spatial heterogeneity and the time-periodic environment can influence the permanence and extinction of the system directly. Our numerical results are consistent with the analytical analysis.

The fractal nature of urban green spaces is the product of the self-organizing evolution of the complex urban system into a higher stage, and orderly patterns and complex structures of urban green spaces will tend to manifest after they develop to a certain stage. On the basis of GF1 satellite data in 2019 and three fractal models, the complexity of the forms and structures of a green space system in downtown Dalian, China, was studied. The results showed that the boundary dimension measured by the perimeter-scale model was 0.64–1.40, and the boundary dimension measured by the area-perimeter model was 1.79–1.99; these results indicate that the degree of human disturbance in green space boundaries was high, and the stability of the green space spatial structures was poor. The grid dimension measured by the area-scale model was 0.49–1.42, and the average radius dimension measured by the area-radius model was 0.35–0.76; these results indicate that the balance of the spatial distribution of green spaces was low, and the green spaces were excessively concentrated in the city center. Through comparisons of the scaling range among various types of green spaces, the characteristic range (gradient structure) of the spatial distribution of urban green spaces was found, which can reflect the maturity of green space growth and the quality of the green space layout. The gradient structure of green spaces in Dalian was characterized by three gradients, namely, 0–4000 m, 4000–8000 m, and 8000–16,000 m. The development of green spaces in the first gradient zone was the best, and the second and third gradient zones showed relatively large potential for improvement. These research results are of practical significance for guiding the planning and construction of green spaces in urban areas.

Objective. Diarrhea in infants is a serious gastrointestinal dysfunction characterized by vomiting and watery bowel movements. Without proper treatment, infants will develop a dangerous electrolyte imbalance. Diarrhea is accompanied by intestinal dysbiosis. This study compared the gut microbiota between healthy infants and diarrheic infants. It also investigated the effects of age and pathogen type on the gut microbiota of infants with diarrhea, providing data for the proper treatment for diarrhea in infants. Materials and Methods. DNA was collected from the fecal samples of 42 Chinese infants with diarrhea and 37 healthy infants. The healthy infants and infants with diarrhea were divided into four age groups: 0–120, 120–180, 180–270, and 270–365 days. Using PCR and 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing, the diarrhea-causing pathogens in these infants were identified and then categorized into four groups: Salmonella infection, Staphylococcus aureus infection, combined Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus infection, and others (neither Salmonella nor Staphylococcus aureus). Results. The species diversity of gut microbiota in diarrheic infants was significantly reduced compared with that in healthy infants. Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) can maintain self-renewal and enhanced multidifferentiation potential through the release of a variety of paracrine factors and extracellular vesicles, allowing them to repair damaged organs and tissues. Consequently, considerable attention has increasingly been paid to their application in tissue engineering and organ regeneration. Here, we provide a comprehensive overview of the current status of ADSC preparation, including harvesting, isolation, and identification. The advances in preclinical and clinical evidence-based ADSC therapy for bone, cartilage, myocardium, liver, and nervous system regeneration as well as skin wound healing are also summarized. Notably, the perspectives, potential challenges, and future directions for ADSC-related researches are discussed. We hope that this review can provide comprehensive and standardized guidelines for the safe and effective application of ADSCs to achieve predictable and desired therapeutic effects.

In order to achieve weak target detection, the range migration and Doppler frequency spread induced by the target motion within the coherent processing interval should be compensated to focus the target energy in a certain range-Doppler cell. This article proposes a new integration method based on non-uniform Keystone transform and non-uniform fast Fourier transform (NUFFT) for random pulse repetition interval (PRI) radar. In this method, non-uniform Keystone transform is applied to correct the linear range migration. After that, the acceleration is estimated by dechirp process and the Doppler frequency spread is compensated. Finally, the target energy is accumulated coherently via NUFFT. Compared with the random PRI generalised Radon-Fourier transform (RPRI-GRFT) and the moving target detection method for random PRI radar, the proposed algorithm achieves a good balance between the detection performance and the computational cost. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper presents the design and control of an advanced unidirectional DC/DC modular multilevel converter (MMC) that facilitate the integration of off-shore windfarms with the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system. The proposed converter deploys a single-phase MMC inverter coupled with series-connected rectifier modules through multiple medium frequency transformers. Unlike the conventional dq control method, which involves multiple transformations, this paper also proposes a simple control strategy that directly acts on the AC output of the MMC, under the stationary reference frame.

We proposed a mobility model of connected vehicles with wireless communications. The proposed mobility model is inspired by the fish school, which takes into account several significant attractive/repulsive potential fields induced by the expected mobility, the tendency to avoid collisions, and the road constraints. With this model, we present a comprehensive approach for designing and analyzing the potential fields acting on connected vehicles. Based on the Lyapunov stability theorem, a theoretical analysis is also provided to show that the cooperative collision avoidance and stable constrained flocking of connected vehicles can be performed by using this model. The numerical experiments prove the effectiveness of the wireless communication on the safety and efficiency of connected vehicles.

A significant challenge in vehicular networks is to efficiently provide multimedia services with the constraints of limited resources, high mobility, opportunistic contact, and service time requirements. In order to guarantee the vehicle user satisfaction of multimedia service, with the proliferation of the distributed peer-to-peer (P2P) cooperative transmission technologies, P2P-based VANET has recently received a substantial amount of interest. Using the P2P services thought and at the same time, a set of methods should be designed to avoid the disadvantage of P2P system appearing in VANET. Under such a presupposition, in this paper, we study the media provisions in P2P-based VANET and present a repeated game “More Pay for More Work (RGMPMW)” incentive mechanism based on service evaluation information. We also propose evolutionary game-based veracity (EGV) game model which exploits evolutionary game to guarantee the multimedia service share veracity of all vehicles in VANET. In addition, we provide extensive simulation results that demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed schemes.

A kind of homogeneous reaction-diffusion singular predator-prey model with no-flux boundary condition is considered. By using the abstract simplified Hopf bifurcation theorem due to Yi et al. 2009, we performed detailed Hopf bifurcation analysis of this particular pattern formation system. These results suggest the existence of oscillatory patterns if the system parameters fall into certain parameter ranges. And all these oscillatory patterns are proved to be unstable.
