Abstract

International audience; The first enantiopure chiral-at-rhenium complexes of the form fac-ReX(CO) (:C^N) have been prepared, where :C^N is a helicene-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand and X=Cl or I. These have complexes show strong changes in the emission characteristics, notably strongly enhanced phosphorescence lifetimes (reaching 0.7 ms) and increased circularly polarized emission (CPL) activity, as compared to their parent chiral models lacking the helicene unit. The halogen along with its position within the dissymmetric stereochemical environment strongly affect the photophysics of the complexes, particularly the phosphorescence quantum yield and lifetime. These results give fresh insight into fine tuning of photophysical and chiroptical properties of Re-NHC systems.

Abstract

International audience; We describe the preparation of helically chiral gold(I) complexes bearing a [5]helicenic-N-heterocyclic carbene ligand. They were successfully obtained as enantiopure compounds by semi-preparative chiral HPLC and their structural, chiroptical, and photophysical properties were subsequently investigated. Notably, strong electronic circular dichroism, dual emission from singlet and triplet states, with the timescale of the latter up to the millisecond range at room temperature, and moderate circularly phosphorescence were observed. The sigma-donating and pi-accepting properties of the constituent helical ortho-fused pi-conjugated carbene were investigated by classical quantitative analysis of the IR stretching frequencies and NMR characteristics of the corresponding Ir(CO)(2)Cl complex and selenourea.

Abstract

Background Whether panty liners predispose to vulvovaginitis is unclear. Objectives To clarify the effects of the use of panty liners on the female genital tract. Search strategy Several electronic databases (including PubMed and Embase) were searched to identify studies published in English before May 3, 2012. Selection criteria Case–control studies, randomized controlled trials, and cohort studies comparing young women who did and did not use panty liners in the intermenstrual period were included. Data collection and analysis The quality of the studies was assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale or the Jadad Scale. Data from suitable studies were extracted for analysis. Main results Five articles met the inclusion criteria. Four studies—all of which included only healthy women—found no significant clinical implications arising from the use of panty liners. The fifth study was of women with recurrent candidiasis and showed that use of panty liners was associated with new candidiasis episodes. Conclusions The intermenstrual use of panty liners does not seem to have a negative effect on the vulvovaginal area.

Abstract

The use of a contaminated single oil drop on a screen-printed carbon electrode is described for the first time here. The simple methodology developed herein opens the possibility of conducting such measurements. R-(+)-limonene oil, some samples of which were contaminated with 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), was used as the oil phase, and BrittonRobinson (BR) buffer was used as the aqueous phase. An oxidation peak at approximately 0.8 V vs. Ag was obtained when the system comprised an oil/water interface. The charge transfer resistance decreased by a factor of approximately 7.1 when an interfacial system composed of two immiscible liquids was used as an electrochemical tool.

Abstract

International audience; The synthesis of 5-bromopenta-2,4-diynenitrile (BrC 5 N) in three steps from commercially available compounds is reported. Reacting 5-bromopenta-2,4-diynenitrile with secondary amines led to the formation of stable butadiynamines or enynenitriles, depending on the nature of the amine reactant. The reaction of 5-bromopenta-2,4-diynenitrile with simple terminal alkynes in the presence of secondary amines, copper, and palladium catalysts, provided a straightforward access to original polyfunctional carbon-rich scaffolds. In this work, different alkynes and secondary amines were tested, which allowed for the preparation of a family of substituted dienes. Given the high synthetic potential of 5-bromopenta-2,4-diynenitrile, we also prepared iodinated counterparts of this compound, that is, 5-iodopenta-2,4-diynenitrile and its lower homologue 3-iodopropiolonitrile. The UV-visible spectrum of some relevant compounds was also recorded.

Abstract

Wireless vehicular communications pose significant challenges for the deployment of next generation roadside services. Some important issues that must be tackled are security, billing, and reliability while guarantying a scalable service delivery. This paper addresses the assignation of secure service session parameters upon the reception of on-demand service requests by an incumbent services district domain and studies and analyses the performance of the underlying mechanisms. Three types of service request protocols are introduced in our work defined as single-hop (SHI-RQ), extended connectivity (EC-RQ), and multi-hop (MHI-RQ) service requests. A detailed analytical model and cost study for the access protocols are presented. Our analysis study covers the estimation of total cost in terms of latency for each access protocol with different mobility characteristics and vehicle densities within the service coverage area and across different serving district domains. The analytical results are consistent with the experimental one and show that the access protocols cost in terms latency remains acceptable for a realistic number of serviced vehicles even at high speeds.
