This article will explore why degree-granting graduate and professional leadership programs should align with institutional missions to clearly promote program scope and value proposition to prospective students. By touting program uniqueness, graduate and professional leadership program administrators can better serve graduate students by clearly advertising what they offer, why they offer it, and how students can expect to learn leadership both in and outside the classroom.

Research Summary Entrepreneurship and innovation are social and relational processes that occur in diverse contexts involving multiple stakeholders. Recently, research in entrepreneurship has begun to explore entrepreneurial processes through the lens of gender. However, unlike its entrepreneurship counterpart, innovation research has paid limited attention to gender dynamics. Indeed, the majority of studies on innovation focus on products, processes or organizations, with the individual often not ‘seen’. This special issue recognizes the intertwined nature of gender, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and in doing so, presents five articles that develop new theory and provide new empirical evidence on the topic of innovation in women’s entrepreneurship. Collectively, they offer new perspectives and open new avenues for future work. In structuring this editorial, we present an overview of the state of the field, provide a multilevel future research agenda, and introduce the articles that comprise this special issue. Managerial Summary Despite the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation for economies and societies worldwide, innovation and gender are rarely explored together. Indeed, limited attention has been placed on the gendered nature of the relations among innovators, entrepreneurs, and processes. This special issue includes five articles which address this gap from multiple perspectives. The editorial describes the state of the field prior to the special issue, introduces the special issue articles, and identifies a multilevel perspective suggesting avenues for further investigation.

Aim: To use continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)-based time-in-range (TIR) as a primary efficacy endpoint to compare the second-generation basal insulin (BI) analogues insulin glargine 300 U/ml (Gla-300) and insulin degludec 100 U/ml (IDeg-100) in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Materials and Methods: InRange was a 12-week, multicentre, randomized, active-controlled, parallel-group, open-label study comparing glucose TIR and variability between Gla-300 and IDeg-100 using blinded 20-day CGM profiles. The inclusion criteria consisted of adults with T1D treated with multiple daily injections, using BI once daily and rapid-acting insulin analogues for at least 1 year, with an HbA1c of 7% or higher and of 10% or less at screening. Results: Overall, 343 participants were randomized: 172 received Gla-300 and 171 IDeg-100. Non-inferiority (10% relative margin) of Gla-300 versus IDeg-100 was shown for the primary endpoint (percentage TIR ≥ 70 to ≤ 180 mg/dl): least squares (LS) mean (95% confidence interval) 52.74% (51.06%, 54.42%) for Gla-300 and 55.09% (53.34%, 56.84%) for IDeg-100 LS mean difference (non-inferiority): 3.16% (0.88%, 5.44%) (non-inferiority P = .0067). Non-inferiority was shown on glucose total coefficient of variation (main secondary endpoint): LS mean 39.91% (39.20%, 40.61%) and 41.22% (40.49%, 41.95%), respectively LS mean difference (non-inferiority) −5.44% (−6.50%, −4.38%) (non-inferiority P < .0001). Superiority of Gla-300 over IDeg-100 was not shown on TIR. Occurrences of self-measured and CGM-derived hypoglycaemia were comparable between treatment groups. Safety profiles were consistent with known profiles, with no unexpected findings. Conclusions: Using clinically relevant CGM metrics, InRange shows that Gla-300 is non-inferior to IDeg-100 in people with T1D, with comparable hypoglycaemia and safety profiles.

Comprehensive information on clinical features and long-term outcomes of primary conjunctival extranodal marginal zone lymphoma (PCEMZL) is scarce. We present a large single-institution retrospective study of 72 patients. The median age was 64 years, and 63.9% were female. Stage I was present in 87.5%. Radiation therapy (RT) alone was the most common treatment (70.8%). Complete response (CR) was 87.5%, and 100% in RT-treated patients. With a median follow-up of 6.7 years, relapse/progression and death occurred in 19.4% each, with one relapse within the RT field. The 10-year progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were 68.4% (95% CI 52.8%-79.8%) and 89.4% (95% CI 77.4%-95.2%), respectively. The 10-year rate for time to progression from diagnosis was 22.5% (95% CI 11.6%-35.7%). The 10-year PFS and OS of MALT-IPI 0 versus 1-2 were 83.3% versus 51.3%, (p = .022) and 97.6% versus 76.6%, (p = .0052), respectively. The following characteristics were associated with shorter survival: age 60 years (PFS: HR = 2.93, 95% CI 1.08-7.95; p = .035, OS: HR = 9.07, 95% CI 1.17-70.26; p = .035) and MALT-IPI 1-2 (PFS: HR = 2.67, 95% CI 1.12-6.31; p = .027, OS: HR = 6.64, 95% CI 1.45-30.37; p = .015). CR following frontline therapy was associated with longer PFS (HR = 0.13, 95% CI 0.04-0.45; p = .001), but not OS. Using the Fine and Gray regression model with death without relapse/progression as a competing risk, RT and CR after frontline therapy were associated with lower risk of relapse (SHR = 0.34, 95% CI 0.12-0.96 p = .041 and SHR = 0.11, 95% CI 0.03-0.36; p .001, respectively). Patients with PCEMZL treated with frontline RT exhibit excellent long-term survival, and the MALT-IPI score appropriately identifies patients at risk for treatment failure.

Managing wildlife populations in the face of global change requires regular data on the abundance and distribution of wild animals, but acquiring these over appropriate spatial scales in a sustainable way has proven challenging. Here we present the data from Snapshot USA 2020, a second annual national mammal survey of the USA. This project involved 152 scientists setting camera traps in a standardized protocol at 1485 locations across 103 arrays in 43 states for a total of 52,710 trap-nights of survey effort. Most (58) of these arrays were also sampled during the same months (September and October) in 2019, providing a direct comparison of animal populations in 2 years that includes data from both during and before the COVID-19 pandemic. All data were managed by the eMammal system, with all species identifications checked by at least two reviewers. In total, we recorded 117,415 detections of 78 species of wild mammals, 9236 detections of at least 43 species of birds, 15,851 detections of six domestic animals and 23,825 detections of humans or their vehicles. Spatial differences across arrays explained more variation in the relative abundance than temporal variation across years for all 38 species modeled, although there are examples of significant site-level differences among years for many species. Temporal results show how species allocate their time and can be used to study species interactions, including between humans and wildlife. These data provide a snapshot of the mammal community of the USA for 2020 and will be useful for exploring the drivers of spatial and temporal changes in relative abundance and distribution, and the impacts of species interactions on daily activity patterns. Key points The genetic disease cystic fibrosis is caused by pathogenic variants in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), a gated pathway, which controls anion flow across epithelia lining ducts and tubes in the body. This study investigated CFTR function in nasal epithelial cells from people with cystic fibrosis and CFTR variants with a range of disease severity. CFTR function varied widely in nasal epithelial cells depending on the identity of CFTR variants, but was unaffected by conditional reprogramming culture, a cell culture technique used to grow large numbers of patient-derived cells. Assessment of CFTR function in vitro in nasal epithelial cells and epithelia, and in vivo in the nasal epithelium and sweat gland highlights the complexity of genotype-phenotype-CFTR function relationships. Abstract Dysfunction of the epithelial anion channel cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) causes a wide spectrum of disease, including cystic fibrosis (CF) and CFTR-related diseases (CFTR-RDs). Here, we investigate genotype-phenotype-CFTR function relationships using human nasal epithelial (hNE) cells from a small cohort of non-CF subjects and individuals with CF and CFTR-RDs and genotypes associated with either residual or minimal CFTR function using electrophysiological techniques. Collected hNE cells were either studied directly with the whole-cell patch-clamp technique or grown as primary cultures at an air-liquid interface after conditional reprogramming. The properties of cAMP-activated whole-cell Cl- currents in freshly isolated hNE cells identified them as CFTR-mediated. Their magnitude varied between hNE cells from individuals within the same genotype and decreased in the rank order: non-CF > CFTR residual function > CFTR minimal function. CFTR-mediated whole-cell Cl- currents in hNE cells isolated from fully differentiated primary cultures were identical to those in freshly isolated hNE cells both in magnitude and behaviour, demonstrating that conditional reprogramming culture is without effect on CFTR expression and function. For the cohort of subjects studied, CFTR-mediated whole-cell Cl- currents in hNE cells correlated well with CFTR-mediated transepithelial Cl- currents measured in vitro with the Ussing chamber technique, but not with those determined in vivo with the nasal potential difference assay. Nevertheless, they did correlate with the sweat Cl- concentration of study subjects. Thus, this study highlights the complexity of genotype-phenotype-CFTR function relationships, but emphasizes the value of conditionally reprogrammed hNE cells in CFTR research and therapeutic testing. Purpose Hemodynamic alterations are indicative of cerebrovascular disease. However, the narrow and tortuous cerebrovasculature complicates image-based assessment, especially when quantifying relative pressure. Here, we present a systematic evaluation of image-based cerebrovascular relative pressure mapping, investigating the accuracy of the routinely used reduced Bernoulli (RB), the extended unsteady Bernoulli (UB), and the full-field virtual work-energy relative pressure ( ν WERP) method. Methods Patient-specific in silico models were used to generate synthetic cerebrovascular 4D Flow MRI, with RB, UB, and ν WERP performance quantified as a function of spatiotemporal sampling and image noise. Cerebrovascular relative pressures were also derived in 4D Flow MRI from healthy volunteers ( n = 8 ), acquired at two spatial resolutions (dx = 1.1 and 0.8 mm). Results The in silico analysis indicate that accurate relative pressure estimations are inherently coupled to spatial sampling: at dx = 1.0 mm high errors are reported for all methods; at dx = 0.5 mm ν WERP recovers relative pressures at a mean error of 0.02 ± 0.25 mm Hg, while errors remain higher for RB and UB (mean error of -2.18 ± 1.91 and -2.18 ± 1.87 mm Hg, respectively). The dependence on spatial sampling is also indicated in vivo, albeit with higher correlative dependence between resolutions using ν WERP (k = 0.64, R2 = 0.81 for dx = 1.1 vs. 0.8 mm) than with RB or UB (k = 0.04, R2 = 0.03, and k = 0.07, R2 = 0.07, respectively). Conclusion Image-based full-field methods such as ν WERP enable cerebrovascular relative pressure mapping; however, accuracy is directly dependent on utilized spatial resolution.

The working alliance has been shown to be a robust predictor of couple therapy outcomes. However, there are still questions regarding the best way to conceptualize and analyze the association between the alliance and outcomes in the couple therapy context. This study presents results from a relatively novel analytic approach for evaluating the alliance and therapy outcomes via the shared influence model (i.e., common fate statistical methodology) with 93 couples who had at least three sessions. Examining the alliance in couple therapy this way allows for nuance in conceptualizing the process of the alliance among partners and the therapist in couple therapy. Empirically, the question that remains is whether the shared experience of the alliance between partners is a stronger predictor of therapy outcome as compared to the unique individual experiences of the alliance. This approach has not yet been utilized to model the couple alliance-outcome association. Results revealed that the shared influence model demonstrated a significant association between the alliance and therapy outcome. Specifically, the couple-level alliance construct was adequately represented from the partners' alliance ratings with the therapist, and couples that report higher shared alliance experiences were also likely to have better therapy outcomes. These findings suggest that conceptualizing and analyzing the alliance at the couple level may be strongly advantageous. Aims This study aimed to assess the ability of a voice analysis application to discriminate between wet and dry states in chronic heart failure (CHF) patients undergoing regular scheduled haemodialysis treatment due to volume overload as a result of their chronic renal failure. Methods and results In this single‐centre, observational study, five patients with CHF, peripheral oedema of ≥2, and pulmonary congestion‐related dyspnoea, undergoing haemodialysis three times per week, recorded five sentences into a standard smartphone/tablet before and after haemodialysis. Recordings were provided that same noon/early evening and the next morning and evening. Patient weight was measured at the hospital before and after each haemodialysis session. Recordings were analysed by a smartphone application (app) algorithm, to compare speech measures (SMs) of utterances collected over time. On average, patients provided recordings throughout 25.8 ± 3.9 dialysis treatment cycles, resulting in a total of 472 recordings. Weight changes of 1.95 ± 0.64 kg were documented during cycles. Median baseline SM prior to dialysis was 0.87 ± 0.17, and rose to 1.07 ± 0.15 following the end of the dialysis session, at noon (P = 0.0355), and remained at a similar level until the following morning (P = 0.007). By the evening of the day following dialysis, SMs returned to baseline levels (0.88 ± 0.19). Changes in patient weight immediately after dialysis positively correlated with SM changes, with the strongest correlation measured the evening of the dialysis day [slope: −0.40 ± 0.15 (95% confidence interval: −0.71 to −0.10), P = 0.0096]. Conclusions The fluid‐controlled haemodialysis model demonstrated the ability of the app algorithm to identify cyclic changes in SMs, which reflected bodily fluid levels. The voice analysis platform bears considerable potential as a harbinger of impending fluid overload in a range of clinical scenarios, which will enhance monitoring and triage efforts, ultimately optimizing remote CHF management.

We present long-term combined results of two clinical trials implementing R-MACLO-IVAM induction followed by thalidomide or rituximab maintenance in 44 patients with untreated mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). The first 22 patients (UM-MCL1 ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT00450801) received maintenance with thalidomide (200 mg daily until relapse/intolerable toxicity) and a subsequent cohort of 22 patients (UM-MCL2 ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT00878254) received rituximab (375 mg/m2 IV weekly × 4, repeated every 6 months for 3 years). Considering all 44 patients, 41 (93.2%) achieved complete response (CR), two (4.5%) partial response (PR), and one (2.3%) was not evaluated for response. With a median follow up of 7.2 years (range < 1 month to 16 years), the 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) was 55.6% (95% CI: 38.9%-69.4%) and median PFS 7.9 years (95% CI: 3.7-11 years). The 5-year OS was 83.3% (95% CI: 68.1%-91.7%) and median OS was not reached. Patients with blastic variant (n = 6) had a 5-year PFS and OS of 20.8% and 60%, respectively. Myelosuppression was the most common adverse event during immunochemotherapy. Long-term treatment-related mortality was 6.8%. Note, R-MACLO-IVAM followed by maintenance therapy is an effective regimen to induce long-term remission in MCL without need for consolidation with ASCT.
