ABSTRACT Background Previous studies reveal inconsistent associations between serum lipid traits and the risks of fractures and osteoporosis in the general population. Methods This prospective cohort study analysed data from 414 302 UK Biobank participants (223 060 women and 191 242 men, aged 37–73 years) with serum lipid measurements: apolipoprotein A (Apo A), apolipoprotein B (Apo B), total cholesterol (TC), high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL‐C), low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C), triglycerides (TG) and lipoprotein A (Lp(a)). Multivariable Cox proportional hazard models with penalized cubic splines were used to explore potential nonlinear associations of each lipid trait with the risks of fractures and osteoporosis. Subgroup analyses by age, sex, BMI categories and pre‐existing cardiovascular disease were conducted. Mediation analyses using the g‐formula were performed to quantify to which extent bone mineral density (BMD) may mediate the association between serum lipids and fracture risk. Results Over a median follow‐up period of 13.8 years, 25 918 (6.8%) of the 383 530 participants without prior fracture had incident fracture cases, and 7591 (4.1%) of the 184 919 participants with primary care data and without baseline osteoporosis were diagnosed with osteoporosis. TG had nonlinear associations with fractures and osteoporosis, whereas Apo B, TC and LDL‐C had linear associations. There were also nonlinear associations of Apo A and HDL‐C with fractures. Individuals in the highest quintiles for Apo A (fracture: HR 1.15 [95% CI 1.10, 1.21]; osteoporosis: HR 1.13 [1.02, 1.25]) and HDL‐C (fracture: HR 1.27 [1.20, 1.34]; osteoporosis: HR 1.31 [1.18, 1.46]) were associated with higher risks of fractures and osteoporosis. Conversely, those in the highest quintile for Apo B (fracture: HR 0.85 [0.81, 0.89]; osteoporosis: HR 0.86 [0.79, 0.94]), LDL‐C (fracture: HR 0.89 [0.85, 0.93]; osteoporosis: HR 0.91 [0.83, 1.00]) and TG (fracture: HR 0.78 [0.74, 0.82]; osteoporosis: HR 0.75 [0.68, 0.82]) were associated with lower risks. The associations of Apo A (ratio of HR [RHR] 1.05 [1.02, 1.09]) and HDL‐C (RHR 1.06 [1.03, 1.09]) with fracture risk were more pronounced in men compared to women. Except for TG and Lp(a), the associations between serum lipids and fractures appear to be partially mediated through BMD (mediation proportions: 5.30% to 40.30%), assuming causality. Conclusions Our study reveals a complex interplay between different lipid markers and skeletal health, potentially partially mediated through BMD. Routine lipid profile assessments, including HDL‐C and Apo A among other lipid traits, may be integrated into the strategies for fracture risk stratification.

Abstract Aims This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and all‐cause mortality in patients with heart failure (HF). Methods and Results A total of 1274 patients with HF diagnosed at Hebei General Hospital were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into four groups by quartiles based on the TyG index. The endpoint was all‐cause mortality during the follow‐up period. The median follow‐up period was 1079 days, with a total of 543 (42.7%) patients experiencing all‐cause mortality. The survival curves showed no significant difference in endpoint events among the four groups (log‐rank P = 0.329). The adjusted survival curves revealed that after adjusting for the variables in Model 3, the group with a higher TyG index exhibited a higher risk of death (log‐rank P

Abstract Kidney tumours are among the top ten most common tumours, the automatic segmentation of medical images can help locate tumour locations. However, the segmentation of kidney tumour images still faces several challenges: firstly, there is a lack of renal tumour endoscopic datasets and no segmentation techniques for renal tumour endoscopic images; secondly, the intra‐class inconsistency of tumours caused by variations in size, location, and shape of renal tumours; thirdly, difficulty in semantic fusion during decoding; and finally, the issue of boundary blurring in the localization of lesions. To address the aforementioned issues, a new dataset called Re‐TMRS is proposed, and for this dataset, the transformer‐based boundary feedback network for kidney tumour segmentation (BFT‐Net) is proposed. This network incorporates an adaptive context extract module (ACE) to emphasize local contextual information, reduces the semantic gap through the mixed feature capture module (MFC), and ultimately improves boundary extraction capability through end‐to‐end optimization learning in the boundary assist module (BA). Through numerous experiments, it is demonstrated that the proposed model exhibits excellent segmentation ability and generalization performance. The mDice and mIoU on the Re‐TMRS dataset reach 91.1% and 91.8%, respectively.

Abstract The battery energy storage system (BESS) combines backup and load regulation functions, making it a potential alternative to the diesel generator (DG) as the backup power source for data centers. Some studies have been conducted on the reliability and cost–benefit of equipping data centers with BESS, but the impact of the reliability of external utility power and the expected outage losses have not been considered. Therefore, this study established a power supply reliability model that included the external utility power reliability and the electrical equipment reliability, and a cost–benefit model that took into account the BESS construction and replacement cost, the outage loss reduction, and the load regulation benefits. A case study was conducted on a data center in Beijing. The results indicate that: (a) the reliability and cost–benefit of BESS significantly vary with the reliability of the external utility power; (b) based on the 2022 utility power reliability data from various regions in China, in over 48% of the regions, the objective function value of BESS, the annual net income considering power outage losses, and the investment payback period are all superior to those of DG; and in over 27% of regions, the BESS–DG parallel system can serve as a suboptimal alternative to DG; (c) in regions with reliable utility power, BESS exhibits the potential as a feasible substitute for DG in providing backup and load regulation power to data centers.

Abstract Automatic segmentation of renal tumours during renal cell carcinoma surgery can help doctors accurately locate the tumour region, protect the tissues and organs around the kidneys, enhance surgical efficiency, and reduce the possibility of leakage and misdiagnosis. However, since general polyp endoscopic image segmentation models have many problems when facing the task of renal tumour segmentation, there needs to be more research on the segmentation of endoscopic images of renal tumours. This paper proposes a multi‐scale dynamic segmentation kernel network for endoscopic image segmentation of kidney tumours. First, a spatial receptive field module is proposed to augment the feature information and improve the performance of the whole network. Second, an enhanced cross‐attention module is offered to attenuate the effect of a high‐similarity segmentation background. Finally, a multi‐scale dynamic segmentation kernel module is introduced to gradually refine the segmentation results from small to large sizes to obtain more accurate tumour boundaries. Extensive experiments on the established kidney tumour endoscopic dataset and publicly available endoscopic datasets show that this method exhibits enhanced performance and generalization capabilities compared to existing techniques. On this renal tumour dataset, MDSK‐Net achieved excellent results of 94.1% and 90.1% on mDice and mIoU.

Abstract By eliminating their minerals, acidification technology makes coal seams more permeable. Acidification technology were conducted in the Farr and Qinglong mining areas using a mixed acid solution to study the impact of acidification technology on increasing the permeability of primary structural coals in the Guizhou region, China. The microphysical and chemical structure of the coal samples before and after acidification transformation was compared using X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry experiments. The results show that after acidification, the volatile matter content is reduced by 4.2% and 16.25%, the carbon content is increased, the degree of coalification is deepened, the gas content of the coal seam is elevated, and the gas source is more abundant. The minerals on the surface are dissolved to different degrees, and the pores and cracks are dredged, so that the surface of the coal samples shows better connectivity, which is conducive to the diffusion and transport of coalbed methane. The volume and pore diameter of the macropore and mesopore in the Farr coal samples were improved after acidification, and the fractal structure was more prominent, the pore connectivity was good, and the pore diameter of the Qinglong coal samples was greatly increased. The content of oxygen‐containing functional groups increased by 11.2% and 2.1%, respectively, which is conducive to the desorption of coalbed methane after acidification, and with the increasing degree of metamorphism of the coal samples, the higher the content of oxygen‐containing functional groups was and the less pronounced the effect of acidification. Acidification technology can effectively remove the minerals in the coal body and has a good effect on penetration enhancement, and the results of the study can provide certain theoretical references for the penetration enhancement of coal seams in Guizhou mining areas.

Abstract RNA splicing is a dynamic molecular process in response to environmental stimuli and is strictly regulated by the spliceosome. Sm proteins, constituents of the spliceosome, are key components that mediate splicing reactions; however, their potential role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is poorly understood. In the study, SNRPD2 (PD2) is found to be the most highly upregulated Sm protein in HCC and to act as an oncogene. PD2 modulates DDX39A intron retention together with HNRNPL to sustain the DDX39A short variant (39A_S) expression. Mechanistically, 39A_S can mediate MYC mRNA nuclear export to maintain high MYC protein expression, while MYC in turn potentiates PD2 transcription. Importantly, digitoxin can directly interact with PD2 and has a notable cancer‐suppressive effect on HCC. The study reveals a novel mechanism by which DDX39A senses oncogenic MYC signaling and undergoes splicing via PD2 to form a positive feedback loop in HCC, which can be targeted by digitoxin.

Abstract Conventional androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) targets the androgen receptor (AR) inhibiting prostate cancer (PCa) progression; however, it can eventually lead to recurrence as castration‐resistant PCa (CRPC), which has high mortality rates and lacks effective treatment modalities. The study confirms the presence of high glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) expression, a key regulator of ferroptosis (i.e., iron‐dependent program cell death) in CRPC cells. Therefore, inducing ferroptosis in CRPC cells might be an effective therapeutic modality for CRPC. However, nonspecific uptake of ferroptosis inducers can result in undesirable cytotoxicity in major organs. Thus, to precisely induce ferroptosis in CRPC cells, a genetic engineering strategy is proposed to embed a prostate‐specific membrane antigen (PSMA)‐targeting antibody fragment (gy1) in the macrophage membrane, which is then coated onto mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) nanoparticles to produce a biomimetic nanoplatform. The results indicate that the membrane‐coated nanoparticles (MNPs) exhibit high specificity and affinity toward CRPC cells. On further encapsulation with the ferroptosis inducers RSL3 and iron ions, MPDA/Fe/RSL3@M‐gy1 demonstrates superior synergistic effects in highly targeted ferroptosis therapy eliciting significant therapeutic efficacy against CRPC tumor growth and bone metastasis without increased cytotoxicity. In conclusion, a new therapeutic strategy is reported for the PSMA‐specific, CRPC‐targeting platform for ferroptosis induction with increased efficacy and safety.

Abstract Resilient motion planning and control, without prior knowledge of disturbances, are crucial to ensure the safe and robust flight of quadrotors. The development of a motion planning and control architecture for quadrotors, considering both internal and external disturbances (i.e., motor damages and suspended payloads), is addressed. Firstly, the authors introduce the use of exponential functions to formulate trajectory planning. This choice is driven by its ability to predict thrust responses with minimal computational overhead. Additionally, a reachability analysis is incorporated for error dynamics resulting from multiple disturbances. This analysis sits at the interface between the planner and controller, contributing to the generation of more robust and safe spatial–temporal trajectories. Lastly, the authors employ a cascade controller, with the assistance of internal and external loop observers, to further enhance resilience and compensate the disturbances. The authors’ benchmark experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in enhancing flight safety, particularly when confronted with motor damages and payload disturbances.

Abstract Bioinspired micropillar adhesives have shown broad application prospects in space capture and docking, due to their strong adhesion, good environmental adaptability, and reusability. However, when performing space missions, unavoidable contact collision with target objects may cause large deformation of the micropillars, resulting in the loss of adhesion ability. This study reports a novel micropillar adhesive through the in‐plane combination of micropillars (IPCM) with different aspect ratios, consisting of small pillars for retaining strong adhesion and large ones for resisting overload‐induced adhesion failure. It is demonstrated that the IPCM array can still maintain 85% of the adhesion peak after static large deformation compared to a general micropillar array composed of the same pillars. The impact of element size and layout of the IPCM, as well as detachment velocity on adhesion performance under high preload is discussed. Furthermore, finite element contact analysis qualitatively reproduces the experimentally observed micropillar deformations and attributes the overload‐induced adhesion failure to the redistribution of surface normal stress. Finally, the potential application of the IPCM in dynamic capture is demonstrated on different objects. The proposed IPCM opens up new design concepts for practical applications of bioinspired adhesives in space capture and docking.

Abstract The presence of stone cells in pears is recognized as a problem for the pear processing industry. Bacillus and mold can degrade stone cells because of their potential to digest cellulose and lignin, but they cannot be used for the degradation test of pear stone cells. In this study Lactoplantibacillus plantarum JYLP‐326 was used in single culture or in the mixed culture with Saccharomyces cerevisiae Y2 to study their potential to degrade stone cells during fermentation and the mechanism of degradation was further explored. Synergy in cellulase activity was observed in the mixed‐culture where the maximum activity was observed at 96th hour of fermentation. Activities of endoglucanase, exoglucanase and β‐glucosidase were 1.75, 4.58, and 2.31. The degradation rate of stone cells in the mixed‐culture was 37.67%, which was significantly higher than that the results obtained for single cultures. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the surface of the cultured stone cells became rough. Metabolomics studies confirmed the presence of specific metabolites related to the degradation of stone cells after the fermentation. It was concluded that the mixed‐culture fermentation using the above‐mentioned strains could be exploited by the pear processing industry to degrade stone cells.

Abstract To reduce the high burden of disease caused by air pollution, the World Health Organization (WHO) released new Air Quality Guidelines (AQG) on September 22, 2021. In this study, the daily fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and surface ozone (O3) data of 618 cities around the world is collected from 2019 to 2022. Based on the new AQG, the number of attainment days for daily average concentrations of PM2.5 (≤ 15 µg m−3) and O3 (≤ 100 µg m−3) is approximately 10% and 90%, respectively. China and India exhibit a decreasing trend in the number of highly polluted days (> 75 µg m−3) for PM. Every year over 68% and 27% of cities in the world are exposed to harmful PM2.5 (> 35 µg m−3) and O3 (> 100 µg m−3) pollution, respectively. Combined with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is found that more than 35% of the world's cities face PM2.5‐O3 compound pollution. Furthermore, the exposure risks in these cities (China, India, etc.) are mainly categorized as “High Risk”, “Risk”, and “Stabilization”. In contrast, economically developed cities are mainly categorized as “High Safety”, “Safety”, and “Deep Stabilization.” These findings indicate that global implementation of the WHO's new AQG will minimize the inequitable exposure risk from air pollution.

Abstract A novel system for human following using a differential robot, including an accurate 3‐D human position tracking module and a novel planning strategy that ensures safety and dynamic feasibility, is proposed. The authors utilise a combination of gimbal camera and LiDAR for long‐term accurate human detection. Then the planning module takes the target's future trajectory as a reference to generate a coarse path to ensure the following visibility. After that, the trajectory is optimised considering other constraints and following distance. Experiments demonstrate the robustness and efficiency of our system in complex environments, demonstrating its potential in various applications.

Abstract Motivated by the excellent performance of proportional–integral–derivative controllers (PIDs) in the field of control, the authors injected the philosophy of PID into optimisation and introduced two types of novel PID optimisers from a continuous‐time view, which benefit from the idea that discrete‐time optimisation algorithm can be modelled as a continuous dynamical system/controlled system. For centralised optimisation, the authors discuss the idea of the first‐order PID optimiser and the second‐order accelerated PID optimiser. Furthermore, this framework is extended into distributed optimisation settings, and a distributed PID optimiser is proposed. Finally, some numerical examples are given to verify our ideas.

Abstract 360° depth estimation has been extensively studied because 360° images provide a full field of view of the surrounding environment as well as a detailed description of the entire scene. However, most well‐studied convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for 360° depth estimation can extract local features well, but fail to capture rich global features from the panorama due to a fixed receptive field in CNNs. PCformer, a parallel convolutional transformer network that combines the benefits of CNNs and transformers, is proposed for 360° depth estimation. The transformer has the nature to model long‐range dependency and extract global features. With PCformer, both global dependency and local spatial features can be efficiently captured. To fully incorporate global and local features, a dual attention fusion module is designed. Besides, a distortion‐weighted loss function is designed to reduce the distortion in panoramas. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves competitive results against the state‐of‐the‐art methods on three benchmark datasets. Additional experiments also demonstrate that the proposed model has benefits in terms of model complexity and generalisation capability.

Objective The debate on the superiority of single‐ or double‐bundle for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction has not ceased. The comparative studies on intra‐articular biomechanics after different surgical reconstructions are rare. This study is to evaluate the biomechanical stress distribution intra‐knee after single‐ and double‐bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction by three‐dimensional finite element analysis, and to observe the change of stress concentration under the condition of vertical gradient loads. Methods In this study, magnetic resonance imaging data were extracted from patients and healthy controls for biomechanical analysis. Patients included in the three models were matched in age and sex. The strength and distribution of induced stresses were analyzed in two frequently used procedures, anatomical single‐bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and anatomical double‐bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, using femoral‐graft‐tibial system under different loads, to mimic a post‐operation mechanical motion. The three‐dimensional finite‐element models for normal ligament and two surgical methods were applied. A vertical force simulating daily walking was performed on the models to assess the interfacial stresses and displacements of intra‐articular tissues and ligaments. The evaluation results mainly included the stress of each part of ligament and meniscus. The stress values of different parts of three models were extracted and compared. Results The stress of ligament/graft at femoral side of three finite‐element models was significantly higher than at tibial side, while the highest level was observed in single‐bundle reconstruction finite‐element model. With the increase of force, the maximum stress in the medial (7.1–7.1 MPa) and lateral (4.9–7.4 MPa) meniscus of single‐bundle reconstruction finite‐element model shifted from the anterior horn to the central area (p = 0.0161, 0.0479, respectively). The stress was shown to be at a lower level at femoral side and posterior cruciate ligament of intra‐knee in two reconstruction finite‐element models than that in normal finite‐element models, while presented higher level at the tibial side than normal knee (p = 0.3528). The displacement of the femoral side and intra‐knee areas in reconstruction finite‐element models was greater than that in normal finite‐element model (p = 0.0855). Conclusion Compared with the single‐bundle technique, the graft of double‐bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction has better stress dissipation effect and can prevent postoperative meniscus tear more effectively.

Abstract Stereo‐digital image correlation (Stereo‐DIC) has been widely explored for modal analysis in plate‐type structures due to its noncontact and full‐field advantages. However, when the traditional stereo‐DIC is adopted to capture the out‐of‐plane displacements, several challenging issues exist such as the development of surface speckles, asynchronous camera recording, and efficiency and accuracy degradation due to high computation costs. Moreover, with the captured out‐of‐plane displacements, effective and efficient evaluation of the high spatial resolution mode shapes and their application to damage localization are also critical problems. To tackle these issues, a speckle‐projection DIC technique using a single high‐speed camera is proposed to obtain the out‐of‐plane vibration displacements. Moreover, an enhanced peak‐picking modal analysis method is adopted to enhance the estimation accuracy and efficiency of mode shapes. In addition, the low‐rank property of mode shapes in an intact state and the spatial sparse property of damage locations are harnessed for the detection of damage positions without requiring reference data on the healthy state. Finally, the modal analysis and damage localization results based on the proposed speckle‐projection DIC are compared with those of the traditional two‐camera stereo‐DIC technique to verify its feasibility and effectiveness. It is found that the differences in the identified resonant frequencies between these two methods are smaller than 1% for higher modes. Moreover, the proposed speckle‐projection DIC has the same accuracy as the traditional two‐camera stereo‐DIC in terms of measurement accuracy, mode shape estimation, and damage localization.

Societal Impact Statement Combining natural and social science approaches to conduct archeological research on wooden cultural relics is important for exploring major aspects of ancient civilizations. The Forbidden City in Beijing, China, is the largest existing wooden palace complex in the world. We examined ancient DNA of imperial wood “Nanmu” specimens taken from representative structural components of the Forbidden City, in order to provide a new perspective on the long‐standing dispute about its species. This allowed us to accurately identify and properly restore these wooden artifacts and improved our understanding of the past interactions between plant distribution, forest resources, and human activities. Summary Exploring the life styles and production methods of past generations using plant resources can help us to improve our understanding of human civilization. Nanmu, known for its high wood quality, was exclusively used for imperial palace construction in the 15th–19th centuries in China, yet its species has been a subject of long‐standing debate. Here, we revisit this unresolved problem, using morphology and ancient DNA (aDNA) to analyze 21 centuries‐old Nanmu specimens sampled from representative palaces of the Forbidden City. Cytochemical staining demonstrated that endogenous aDNA sporadically occurs in the wood ray parenchyma cells of Nanmu specimens. High‐quality plastid genomes were retrieved from archeological woods for the first time via an aDNA capture method, with 90%–100% coverage (137,663–152,805 bp) and sequence depths of 27.05‐ to 1409.94‐fold. Utilizing these ancient genomes, our results demonstrate that Phoebe zhennan and Phoebe hui are most likely the main species of Nanmu in the Forbidden City. This finding diverges from the prevailing view that Nanmu encompasses woods from the whole genus Phoebe and even its close relative Machilus. It also shows that stringent criteria were used when selecting construction materials for the Forbidden City. By combining morphological traits with aDNA analyses, we provide a new solution for identifying the species of timber used for ancient architecture, and we increase our understanding of the way in which forest resources were recognized and utilized by our ancestors despite the lack of a plant taxonomic framework in ancient times.

Abstract Particle image velocimetry (PIV) is an essential method in experimental fluid dynamics. In recent years, the development of deep learning‐based methods has inspired new approaches to tackle the PIV problem, which considerably improves the accuracy of PIV. However, the supervised learning of PIV is driven by large volumes of data with ground truth information. Therefore, the authors consider unsupervised PIV methods. There has been some work on unsupervised PIV, but they are not nearly as effective as supervised learning PIV. The authors try to improve the effectiveness and accuracy of unsupervised PIV by adding classical PIV methods and physical constraints. In this paper, the authors propose an unsupervised PIV method combined with the cross‐correlation method and divergence‐free constraint, which obtains better performance than other unsupervised PIV methods. The authors compare some classical PIV methods and some deep learning methods, such as LiteFlowNet, LiteFlowNet‐en, and UnLiteFlowNet with the authors’ model on the synthetic dataset. Besides, the authors contrast the results of LiteFlowNet, UnLiteFlowNet and the authors’ model on experimental particle images. As a result, the authors’ model shows comparable performance with classical PIV methods as well as supervised PIV methods and outperforms the previous unsupervised PIV method in most flow cases.

Abstract Generally, long wavelength absorbed near‐infrared II (NIR‐II) dyes have a low fluorescence efficiency in aggregate states for aggregate‐caused quenching effect, simultaneously enhancing efficiency and extending absorption is a challenging issue for NIR‐II dyes. Here, three benzo[1,2‐c:4,5‐c']bis[1,2,5]thiadiazole (BBT) derivatives (TPA‐BBT, FT‐BBT, and BTBT‐BBT) are used to clarify fluorescence quenching mechanisms. When the BBT derivatives are doped into a small molecule matrix, they show quite different fluorescence behaviors. Structure‐distorted TPA‐BBT displays fluorescence quenching originating from short‐range exchange interaction, while FT‐BBT and BTBT‐BBT with a co‐planar‐conjugated backbone exhibit concentration‐dependent quenching processes, namely changing from long‐range dipole‐dipole interaction to exchange interaction, which could be majorly ascribed to large spectral overlap between absorption and emission. By precisely tuning doping concentration, both FT‐BBT and BTBT‐BBT nanoparticles (NPs) present the optimal NIR‐II fluorescence brightness at ∼2.5 wt% doping concentration. The doped NPs have good biocompatibility and could be served as fluorescence contrast agents for vascular imaging with a high resolution under 980‐nm laser excitation. Those paradigms evidence that molecular doping can promote fluorescence efficiency of long wavelength‐absorbed NIR‐II fluorophores via suppressing long‐range energy migration.

Abstract Tibial cortex transverse transport (TTT) surgery is an extension of the Ilizarov technique. Based on the law of tension‐stress, its primary function is to rebuild microcirculation which can relieve ischemic symptoms and promote wound healing. It has received more and more scholars' attention and has experienced a series of changes for 20 years since it entered PR China. The mechanisms involved have gradually become clear, such as the reconstruction of the polarization balance of macrophages, the promotion of vascular tissue regeneration, and the mobilization and regulation of bone marrow‐derived stem cells. TTT technique is mainly used in the treatment of chronic ischemic diseases of the lower extremities. It has recently been successfully used in the treatment of primary lymphedema of the lower extremities. A series of improvements have been made in the external fixator's style, the size of skin incision and osteotomy, and distraction method. For example, the annular external fixator has been redesigned as a unilateral external fixator, and accordion technology has been introduced. For distraction methods after surgery, there was no uniform standard in the past. The technique can also be used in combination with other treatments to achieve better effects, such as interventional therapy, negative pressure sealed drainage, 3D printing technology, traditional Chinese medicine. Nevertheless, the surgery may bring some complications, such as secondary fracture, nail infection, skin necrosis at the surgical site, etc. Reports of complications and doubts about the technique have made the TTT technique controversial. In 2020, the relevant expert consensus was published with treatment and management principles, which might guide the better application and development of this technique.

Abstract In recent years, several progressive studies promote the development of aerial tracking. One of the representative studies is our previous work Fast‐Tracker which is applicable to various challenging tracking scenarios. However, it suffers from two main drawbacks: (1) the oversimplification in target detection by using artificial markers and (2) the contradiction between simultaneous target and environment perception with limited onboard vision. In this study, we upgrade the target detection in Fast‐Tracker to detect and localise a human target based on deep learning and non‐linear regression to solve the former problem. For the latter one, we equip the quadrotor system with 360° active vision on a customised gimbal camera. Furthermore, we improve the tracking trajectory planning in Fast‐Tracker by incorporating an occlusion‐aware mechanism that generates observable tracking trajectories. Comprehensive real‐world tests confirm the proposed system's robustness and real‐time capability. Benchmark comparisons with Fast‐Tracker validate that the proposed system presents better tracking performance even when performing more difficult tracking tasks. Abstract This study considers a control problem related to the regulation of fractional‐order systems controlled by fractional order proportional‐integral‐derivative controllers (PIλDμ). The stability result of PIλDμ‐based control systems is provided, such that the closed‐loop systems can accomplish global stabilisation under some suitable conditions related to the system uncertainties. Finally, a simulation is demonstrated to verify the results.

Abstract As primary producers, plants provide food, oxygen, and other resources for global ecosystems, and should therefore be given priority in biodiversity protection. Most biodiversity research focuses on biodiversity hotspots, while biodiversity coldspots, such as deserts, are largely ignored. We propose that the factors shaping plant species diversity differ between biodiversity hot spots and cold spots, especially for desert ecosystems. To test this hypothesis, we investigated plant species diversity along the Modern Silk Road in the Northwest China desert, an area characterized by low precipitation, scarce vegetation, a limited number of species, and variable human activities. Surface soil was sampled from 144 plots, environmental DNA (eDNA) was extracted from soil samples, and seed plant species were identified using DNA metabarcoding technology. A total of 671 seed plant species were detected, which was more diverse than indicated by plot survey data. Plant species diversity gradually decreased from east to west along the Silk Road. In this area, temperature determines plant species diversity more than precipitation. Additionally, human activity has altered plant species diversity by introducing crops and invasive plants and eliminating environmentally adapted indigenous plants. Our results demonstrate the potential of eDNA metabarcoding technology for plant species diversity surveying. Desert plants have adapted to dry environments by relying on underground water or utilizing occasional rainfall as ephemerals, which are often not visible during surface surveys because of their short aboveground life cycle but can be detected with eDNA metabarcoding technology. Groundwater maintenance and human activity control are recommended for plant species diversity conservation and desertification control.

Abstract The authors present a new multi‐exposure images fusion method based on feature evaluation with adaptive factor. It is noticed the existing multi‐exposure fusion algorithm is not well adapted to the input images, which are overall bright or dark, the fused image quality is not pretty good, and the details are not preserved completely. So an adaptive factor to adapt the intensity of input images is presented here. First, the exposure assessment weight, texture change weight, and colour intensity weight are calculated by a sliding window. Finally, the images are fused by using a pyramid to avoid the seams. Twenty exposure input images of different scenes are selected, the subjective and objective aspects are analysed and compared with several existing multi‐exposure image fusion methods. The experimental results show that the proposed method can retain more details and obtain satisfactory visual effects on static scenes.

Abstract DNA barcoding has become one of the most important techniques in plant species identification. Successful application of this technology is dependent on the availability of reference database of high species coverage. Unfortunately, there are experimental and data processing challenges to construct such a library within a short time. Here, we present our solutions to these challenges. We sequenced six conventional DNA barcode fragments (ITS1, ITS2, matK1, matK2, rbcL1, and rbcL2) of 380 flowering plants on next‐generation sequencing (NGS) platforms (Illumina Hiseq 2500 and Ion Torrent S5) and the Sanger sequencing platform. After comparing the sequencing depths, read lengths, base qualities, and base accuracies, we conclude that Illumina Hiseq2500 PE250 run is suitable for conventional DNA barcoding. We developed a new “Cotu” method to create consensus sequences from NGS reads for longer output sequences and more reliable bases than the other three methods. Step‐by‐step instructions to our method are provided. By using high‐throughput machines (PCR and NGS), labeling PCR, and the Cotu method, it is possible to significantly reduce the cost and labor investments for DNA barcoding. A regional or even global DNA barcoding reference library with high species coverage is likely to be constructed in a few years.

Abstract By exploiting the self‐therapeutic properties of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) a molecular axis that promotes the growth of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC), one of the deadliest gynecologic malignancies with poorly understood underlying molecular mechanisms, has been identified. The biodistribution and toxicity of GNPs administered by intravenous or intraperitoneal injection, both as a single dose or by repeated dosing over two weeks are first assessed; no biochemical or histological toxicity to vital organs is found. Using an orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (PDX) model of HGSOC, the authors then show that GNP treatment robustly inhibits tumor growth. Investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the GNP efficacy reveals that GNPs downregulate insulin growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) by disrupting its autoregulation via the IGFBP2/mTOR/PTEN axis. This mechanism is validated by treating a cell line‐based human xenograft tumor with GNPs and an mTOR dual‐kinase inhibitor (PI‐103), either individually or in combination with GNPs; GNP and PI‐103 combination therapy inhibit ovarian tumor growth similarly to GNPs alone. This report illustrates how the self‐therapeutic properties of GNPs can be exploited as a discovery tool to identify a critical signaling axis responsible for poor prognosis in ovarian cancer and provides an opportunity to interrogate the axis to improve patient outcomes.

Abstract This study reports that photodetectors based on double‐layer ZnO nanorods grown on AZO seed layer by hydrothermal method. Compared with the photodetectors with single‐layer nanorods, the on/off ratio of the photodetectors with double‐layer ZnO nanorods is increased by ∼2.52 times, the photoresponsivity is increased ∼5.50 times, the sensitivity is increased ∼3.34 times and the response time was shortened by 0.97 and 6.65 s, respectively. Furthermore, the photocurrent derivative also shows that the photodetectors based on double‐layer ZnO nanorods has a faster response speed.

Summary In the present research, Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Irpex Lacteus simultaneously degraded lignin and cellulose in ramie stalks, whereas Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus eryngii could depolymerize lignin but little cellulose. Comparative proteomic analysis of these four white‐rot fungi was used to investigate the molecular mechanism of this selective ligninolysis. 292 proteins, including CAZymes, sugar transporters, cytochrome P450, proteases, phosphatases and proteins with other function, were successfully identified. A total of 58 CAZyme proteins were differentially expressed, and at the same time, oxidoreductases participated in lignin degradation were expressed at higher levels in P. eryngii and P. ostreatus. Enzyme activity results indicated that cellulase activities were higher in P. chrysosporium and I. lacteus, while the activities of lignin‐degrading enzymes were higher in P. eryngii and P. ostreatus. In addition to the lignocellulosic degrading enzymes, several proteins including sugar transporters, cytochrome P450 monooxygenases, peptidases, proteinases, phosphatases and kinases were also found to be differentially expressed among these four species of white‐rot fungi. In summary, the protein expression patterns of P. eryngii and P. ostreatus exhibit co‐upregulated oxidoreductase potential and co‐downregulated cellulolytic capability relative to those of P. chrysosporium and I. lacteus, providing a mechanism consistent with selective ligninolysis by P. eryngii and P. ostreatus.

Abstract Coalbed methane (CBM) is the very important unconventional energy resource. Enhancing extraction is the main method to improve the utilization of CBM and prevent coal mine gas disasters. To reveal the laws of gas migration during the underground gas extraction, the paper established the solid‐gas coupling model, regarding coal as the homogeneous elastic medium with dual pore‐fracture structure and dual permeability and considering the gas dynamic diffusion coefficient. Then, the regulations of gas migration in the in‐seam borehole were simulated by the COMSOL Multiphysics software and verified via the field trials of gas extraction. The results revealed that the permeability increased with time due to the coupling of matrix shrinkage and volume compression of coal, in which the matrix shrinkage played a leading role. The gas seepage velocity at the observation points can be divided into three stages: the rapid rise stage, the stable decline stage, and the stable and invariant stage. The gas extraction rate continued decreasing with time and finally tended to a fixed value. In the coal seam #4 of Zhongxing coal mine, the measured flow rates of three in‐seam drilling holes were in good agreement with the simulation results, which verified the correctness of the theoretical coupling model.

Abstract This article presents a minimal thrust vectoring rotor (mTVR) with 6‐DoF motion ability. The mTVR is equipped with only three tiltable thrust units that deploy the coaxial counter‐propellers design for generating pure thrusts. Thus, the mTVR is able to perform 6‐DoF flight with decoupled translation and rotation based on the full rank Jacobian matrix. The geometry of the mTVR is optimised first, by studying the condition number of the Jacobian matrix that contains five geometry parameters. The overall system is then carefully modelled based on the actual hardware configuration of the mTVR prototype, including the coaxial counter‐propeller thruster, the high‐voltage servo for tilting, and the detailed multi‐rigid body motion dynamics of the vehicle. Next, the output envelop and dynamic response of the 6‐DoF actuator performance are evaluated. A 6‐DoF motion controller with disturbance rejection is designed and tested on a specialised multi‐functional software platform developed for the mTVR. The controller shows good stability in regular, even aggressive operation of the vehicle.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of internal fixation versus hemiarthroplasty in the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. Methods A search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases up to April 2020. The present study compared internal fixation and hemiarthroplasty in the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. RevMan5.3 software provided by the International Cochrane Group was used for the meta‐analysis. To compare the differences in the operation time, intraoperative bleeding, length of hospital stay, superficial infection, Harris hip score, mortality within 1 year, mortality within 2 years, reoperation, incidence of deep venous thrombosis (DVT), partial weight‐bearing time, non‐union, and implant‐related complications between an internal fixation group and an hemiarthroplasty group. Results A total of 1300 patients were included in nine studies. Congenital pain insensitivity is a rare genetic disease and its clinical manifestations are many. In orthopaedics, common complications of this disease include painless fracture and Charcot's arthropathy. We followed up a case of multiple fractures of the lower extremity in two years, during which time he came to the clinic for five painless fractures of the lower extremity in a total of six parts. A mutation was found on the NTKRI gene (chr1:156813923(hg19), NM_001007792.1: c.1221938C > T). We have developed a combination of surgery and conservative treatments for his condition, focusing on the mental state of the child and considering comprehensive treatment to be the best option for this type of patient. Occult fractures caused by pain insensitivity are often treated only as fractures, however their complications require routine examination and cleaning, suitable protective shoes, splint fixation, stretching, guided exercise planning, and early treatment of injuries. Due to the risk of fracture in the future, it is important that parents pay attention to the behavior and psychology of the child, such as not letting the child participate in exercise with a risk of injury, protective measures while playing, engaging in psychological counseling, and inducing interest in mental activity. These interventions will play a very important role in preventing the recurrence of fracture.

Background Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common pathological lung cancer and an important cause of cancer‐related death. Metastasis is a major underlying reason for poor prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma. Opsin3 (OPN3), a member of the guanine nucleotide‐binding protein‐coupled receptor superfamily, has been identified to affect the apoptosis of hepatoma cells by modulating the phosphorylation of Akt and Bcl2/Bax. However, the expression and role of OPN3 in lung adenocarcinoma remains unclear. Methods Opsin3 expression in lung adenocarcinoma tissues was detected by western blot, qPCR, and immunohistochemistry. Changes in cell migration and invasion ability resulting from the change of OPN3 expression level were detected by wound healing and transwell migration assays. Changes in the markers of epithelial‐mesenchymal transformation were detected by western blot and qPCR. Results Opsin3 expression in lung adenocarcinoma tissues was higher than that in normal lung tissues. Patients with high expression of OPN3 had lower survival rates. Owing to overexpression of OPN3, the HCC827 cells showed enhanced invasion and migration ability in vitro. Upon decreasing the expression of OPN3, the invasion and migration ability of the A549 cells decreased. Conclusion Our study demonstrated for the first time that OPN3 gene enhanced the metastasis in lung adenocarcinoma, and its overexpression promoted epithelial‐mesenchymal transition. Key points A significant finding of the study was that OPN3 acted an oncogene in promoting lung adenocarcinoma metastasis. Our study complemented the research on the expression and function of OPN3 in lung adenocarcinoma.

Formalin‐fixed, paraffin‐embedded (FFPE), biobanked tissue samples offer an invaluable resource for clinical and biomarker research. Here, we developed a pressure cycling technology (PCT)‐SWATH mass spectrometry workflow to analyze FFPE tissue proteomes and applied it to the stratification of prostate cancer (PCa) and diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) samples. We show that the proteome patterns of FFPE PCa tissue samples and their analogous fresh‐frozen (FF) counterparts have a high degree of similarity and we confirmed multiple proteins consistently regulated in PCa tissues in an independent sample cohort. We further demonstrate temporal stability of proteome patterns from FFPE samples that were stored between 1 and 15 years in a biobank and show a high degree of the proteome pattern similarity between two types of histological regions in small FFPE samples, that is, punched tissue biopsies and thin tissue sections of micrometer thickness, despite the existence of a certain degree of biological variations. Applying the method to two independent DLBCL cohorts, we identified myeloperoxidase, a peroxidase enzyme, as a novel prognostic marker. In summary, this study presents a robust proteomic method to analyze bulk and biopsy FFPE tissues and reports the first systematic comparison of proteome maps generated from FFPE and FF samples. Our data demonstrate the practicality and superiority of FFPE over FF samples for proteome in biomarker discovery. Promising biomarker candidates for PCa and DLBCL have been discovered.

Abstract Black phosphorus (BP) has been shown as a promising two‐dimensional (2D) material for electronic devices owing to its high carrier mobility. To realize complementary electronic circuits with 2D materials, it is important to fabricate both n‐type and p‐type transistors with the same channel material. By engineering the contact region with copper (Cu)‐doped BP, here we demonstrate an n‐type carrier transport in BP field‐effect transistors (FETs), which usually exhibit strongly p‐type characteristics. Cu metal atoms are found to severely penetrate into the BP flakes, which forms interstitial Cu (Cuint)‐doped edge contact and facilitates the electron transport in BP. Our BP FETs in back‐gated configuration exhibit n‐type dominant characteristics with a high electron mobility of ~ 138 cm2 V−1 s−1 at room temperature. The Schottky barrier height for electrons is relatively low because of the edge contact between Cuint‐doped BP and pristine BP channel. The contact doping of BP by highly mobile Cu atoms gives rise to n‐type transport property of BP FETs. Furthermore, we demonstrate a p‐n junction on the same BP flake with asymmetric contact. This strategy on contact engineering can be further extended to other 2D materials.

Background Left atrial appendage (LAA) morphology predicts stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation. However, it is not precisely understood how LAA morphology influences stroke risk. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between LAA morphology and local thrombogenesis‐related blood parameters in LAA. Methods and Results We enrolled 205 patients undergoing catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation. The prevalence of chicken wing–, cactus‐, windsock‐, and cauliflower‐type LAAs were 23.9%, 32.7%, 29.3%, and 14.1%, respectively. Blood samples were collected from the femoral vein, left atrium, and LAA in each patient. The levels of blood parameters were tested for each blood sample. Abstract Background Schmid‐type metaphyseal chondrodysplasia (SMCD) is a rare autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasia caused by heterozygous mutations in COL10A1, the gene which encodes collagen type X alpha 1 chain. However, its genotype–phenotype relationship has not been fully determined. Subjects and Methods The proband is a 2‐year‐old boy, born of non‐consanguineous Chinese parents. We conducted a systematic analysis of the clinical and radiological characteristics and a follow‐up study of the proband. Whole‐exome sequencing was applied for the genetic analysis, together with bioinformatic analysis of predicted consequences of the identified variant. A homotrimer model was built to visualize the affected region and predict possible outcomes of this variant. Furthermore, a literature review and genotype–phenotype analysis were performed by online searching all cases with SMCD. Results A novel heterozygous variant (NM_000493.4: c.1863_1866delAATG, NP_000484.2: p.(Met622 Thrfs*54)) was identified in COL10A1 gene in the affected child. And it was predicted to be pathogenic by in silico analysis. Protein modeling revealed that the variant was located in the NC1 domain, which was predicted to produce truncated collagen and impair the trimerization of collagen type X alpha 1 chain and combination with molecules in the matrix. Moreover, genotype–phenotype correlation analysis demonstrated that patients with truncating variants or variants in NC1 domain often presented earlier onset and severer symptoms compared with those with non‐truncating or variants in non‐NC1 domains. Conclusion The NC1 domain of COL10A1 was proved to be the hotspot region underlying SMCD, patients with variants in NC1 domain were more likely to present severer manifestations at an earlier age.

The thick and hard rock strata (THRS) exist widely in coal measure strata, which control the movements of overlying rock strata in stopes. When THRS break, great energy is released, which could aggravate the risks of coal and gas outburst, rock burst, and other dynamic disasters. Therefore, the foundation and key of preventing dynamic disasters are to distinguish the THRS that could induce coal-rock dynamic disasters and to analyze the laws of rock stratum breaking and energy releasing. The paper proposed the theoretical calculation methods of the energy accumulation and attenuation of rock breaking which is greatly affected by the hanging length of rock strata and the spreading distance. One or more roof strata that play a leading role in inducing dynamic disasters of the underlying coal mass are defined as the key disaster-inducing strata (KDIS). The disaster-inducing coefficient (DIC) is defined and used as the criterion of KDIS. The greater the source energy, the shorter the spreading distance, and the smaller the attenuation coefficient are, the easier the roof strata are to become KDIS. The disaster-inducing ability of the main THRS was analyzed, and the igneous sill was judged as KDIS, taking the Yangliu Coal Mine as project background. The breaking laws of the igneous sill were obtained by the methods of UDEC numerical simulation and microseismic monitoring, which verified the criterion of KDIS.

Abstract Conspicuously, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) serve as homogenously and periodically atom‐dispersed self‐sacrificial template for in situ engineering of hierarchical porous carbon‐encapsulated micro/nanoheterostructure materials, integrating the merits of micro/nanostructure to high‐volumetric energy storage. Copper phosphide represents a promising candidate due to its compact material density compared to commercial graphite. Herein, micro/nanostructured Cu3P/Cu encapsulated by carbon‐nanotube‐assembled hierarchical octahedral carbonaceous matrix (Cu3P/Cu@CNHO) is constructed by an in situ MOF‐derived engineering for novel anode material in LIBs, which achieves an extraordinary cycling stability (a well‐maintained gravimetric/volumetric capacity of 463.2 mAh g−1/1878.4 mAh cm−3 at 1 A g−1 up to 1600 cycles) and distinguished rate capability (an ameliorated capacity of 317.7 mAh g−1 even at 10 A g−1), together with unprecedented heat‐resistant capability (an elevated temperature of 50 °C for 1000 cycles maintaining 434.7 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1). The superior electrochemical performance of Cu3P/Cu@CNHO is credited to the large specific surface area, conductive carbon matrix and metallic copper dopants, synergistic effects of the intrinsic Cu3P/Cu heterostructure, and well‐defined micro/nanostructure, facilitating a boosted electrochemical conductivity and accelerated diffusion kinetics.

Abstract Background The Footscan® platform system is one of the most commonly used clinical tools for the measurement of the foot pressure. The present study was designed to assess the repeatability of the system and identify the range of loading parameters observed in the normal foot. Methods Measurements were collected from 32 healthy participants, 15 females and 17 males, twice at an interval of 1 week. Peak pressure (PP), contact time (CT), contact area (CA), pressure-time integral (PTI), and maximum force (MaF) were recorded; these parameters were investigated in 10 areas of the foot: medial heel, lateral heel, midfoot, first to fifth metatarsals, hallux, and toes 2–5. The intra-session repeatability was evaluated by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and coefficients of variation (CVs) across the three repeated trials within the same session. The inter-session repeatability was assessed using the average of the three trials in each session to determine the ICCs and CVs. Results The ICCs showed moderate to good repeatability for every variable of interest, and the CVs were all

Tomographic particle image velocimetry (Tomo-PIV) has been successfully applied in measuring three-dimensional (3D) flow field in recent years. Such technology highly relies on the reconstruction technique which provides the spatial particle distribution by using images from multiple cameras at different viewing angles. As the most popular reconstruction method, the multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique (MART) has advantages in high computational speed and high accuracy for low particle seeding reconstruction. However, the accuracy is not satisfactory in the case of dense particle distributions to be reconstructed. To overcome this problem, a symmetric encode–decoder fully convolutional network is proposed in this paper to improve the reconstruction quality of MART. The input of the neural network is the particle field reconstructed by the MART approach, while the output is the regenerated image with the same resolution. Numerical evaluations indicate that those blurred or irregular particles can be significantly refined by the trained neural network. Most of the ghost particles can also be removed by this filtering method. The reconstruction accuracy can be improved by more than 10% without increasing the computational cost. Experimental evaluations indicate that the trained neural network can also provide similar satisfactory reconstruction and improved velocity fields.

In view of the defects such as long time-consuming and large limitation in the detection of pesticide resistance of crop pathogens at present. A novel photoelectric detection method based on enriched microfluidic chips is proposed for the detection of pesticide resistance of crop fungal disease. First, according to the aerodynamics characteristics of microbial aerosol particles and optical detection technology, a special enrichment microfluidic chip was designed to achieve high efficiency enrichment and high precision concentration detection of fungal spores. On this basis, based on the theory of pesticide resistance sensitivity baseline, the relationship among spore germination, systematic enrichment concentration, and optical detection concentration of Botrytis cinerea in strawberry treated with Pyrimethanil was studied, and the pesticide resistance detection model of uncultured pathogens was established. The light intensity of light source was 1.1 × 10^3 cd, and the wavelength was 620 nm as the optimum parameters for optical detection. The correlation coefficient between the microscopic examination of spores’ concentration and the results of optical detection is 0.9792. It has good linearity and reliability, which provides a theoretical basis for the research and development of portable equipment for detecting pesticide resistance of crop diseases.

In this work, a state-of-art nonlinear system identification method based on empirical mode decomposition is utilized and extended to detect bolt loosening in a jointed beam. This nonlinear system identification method is based on identifying the multi-scale dynamics of the underlying system. Only structural dynamic response signals are needed to construct a reduced-order model to represent the system concerned. It makes the method easy to use in practice. A new bolt loosening identification procedure based on the constructed system nonlinear reduced-order model is proposed. A new damage feature to indicate bolt loosening is presented. Experimental works are carried out to validate the proposed method. The results show that the proposed damage detection method can detect bolt loosening effectively, and the proposed damage feature values increase with the increase of bolt torques. The damage feature calculated from the response solution of the reduced-order model can give robust and sensitive indication of bolt loosening.

Abstract Background Steroid 21‐hydroxylase deficiency (21OHD) is the most common enzymatic defect, but the genotype–phenotype associations have not been well established in Chinese patients. Here, a Chinese 21OHD cohort was enrolled to investigate the clinical, biochemical, and genetic characteristics of this disorder. Methods Mutation analysis of CYP21A2 gene, 21‐hydroxylase activity assays and in silico predictions of protein structure were performed. Genotype–phenotype associations were analyzed in both the cohort and 487 Chinese CAH patients ever reported. Results Among the total cohort (72 patients), 47 patients (65.3%) were diagnosed as salt‐wasting (SW) phenotype, 11 (15.3%) were simple virilizing (SV) type, and 14 (19.4%) were nonclassic (NC) type. The value of FSH and LH for prediction of the SW phenotype was up to 0.862 and 0.669, respectively. Overall, the detection rate of CYP21A2 mutation was 97.9%, which revealed 25 mutations and 36 genotypes. Four novel mutations (p.L199X, p.E321del, p.H393Q, and p.L459‐P464del) were detected and induced a significantly reduced 21‐hydroxylase activity. Generally, disease severity can be predicted with the genotypes. The most common genotypes in Chinese population were I2G/I2G (12.5%), I2G/Large lesion (12.1%), I173N/I2G (10.3%), and I173N/Large lesion (9.2%). The SW form of CAH is prominent in deletion or intronic splice mutations, namely I2G/I2G (18.6%), I2G/Large lesion (17.2%) and Large lesion/Large lesion (8.6%). Conclusion Four novel mutations were identified and a high consistency of genotype–phenotype association was found in SW CAH. Moreover, FSH and LH levels were proved to be a promising marker for predicting the severity of the disease.

The free-surface flows, such as flows in rivers, lakes, and tides, play an important role in hydraulic engineering and environmental monitoring. However, due to their complex and changeable characters, the precise evolution procedure is quite difficult to reconstruct. In this study, the authors propose a novel framework to reconstruct the free-surface flow modelled by the shallow water equations by assimilating the images sequences. In particular, the ensemble Kalman filter framework is employed to implement the assimilation process. The efficiency of the proposed strategy has been verified through numerical simulations in which the accurate flow field in different situations could be obtained within limited assimilation steps.

The authors propose a novel reinforcement learning (RL) framework, where agent behaviour is governed by traditional control theory. This integrated approach, called time-in-action RL, enables RL to be applicable to many real-world systems, where underlying dynamics are known in their control theoretical formalism. The key insight to facilitate this integration is to model the explicit time function, mapping the state-action pair to the time accomplishing the action by its underlying controller. In their framework, they describe an action by its value (action value), and the time that it takes to perform (action time). An action-value results from the policy of RL regarding a state. Action time is estimated by an explicit time model learnt from the measured activities of the underlying controller. RL value network is then trained with embedded time model to predict action time. This approach is tested using a variant of Atari Pong and proved to be convergent.

Our previous studies suggested that the thyroid might be a target organ affected by lipotoxicity, which might be partially related to the increasing prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism. However, the underlying molecular mechanism is not yet clearly established. This study aimed to assess the effect of palmitic acid stimulation on thyrocyte function. Upon palmitic acid stimulation, intracellular contents of lipids, as well as the expression and activity of three key molecules in thyroid hormone synthesis (i.e., thyroglobulin, sodium iodide symporter, and thyroperoxidase), were determined in human primary thyrocytes. The contents of BODIPY® FL C16 (the fluorescently labeled palmitic acid analogue) entering into the thyrocytes were gradually increased with time extending. Accordingly, the intracellular accumulation of both triglyceride and free fatty acids increased in dose- and time-dependent manners. The effect of palmitic acid stimulation on thyroid hormone synthesis was then determined. Both the mRNA and protein levels of thyroglobulin, sodium iodide symporter, and thyroperoxidase were decreased following palmitic acid stimulation. Consistently, upon palmitic acid stimulation, the secreted thyroglobulin levels in supernatants, 131I uptake, and extracellular thyroperoxidase activity were all decreased in a dose-dependent manner. Our results demonstrated that upon palmitic acid stimulation, the expressions of the key molecules (thyroglobulin, sodium iodide symporter, and thyroperoxidase) were reduced and their activities were suppressed, which might lead to impaired thyroid hormone synthesis.

Ship detection in static UAV aerial images is a fundamental challenge in sea target detection and precise positioning. In this paper, an improved universal background model based on Grabcut algorithm is proposed to segment foreground objects from sea automatically. First, a sea template library including images in different natural conditions is built to provide an initial template to the model. Then the background trimap is obtained by combing some templates matching with region growing algorithm. The output trimap initializes Grabcut background instead of manual intervention and the process of segmentation without iteration. The effectiveness of our proposed model is demonstrated by extensive experiments on a certain area of real UAV aerial images by an airborne Canon 5D Mark. The proposed algorithm is not only adaptive but also with good segmentation. Furthermore, the model in this paper can be well applied in the automated processing of industrial images for related researches.
