Abstract Background Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder characterized by the accelerated proliferation of keratinocytes, which leads to the formation of scaly plaques and a chronic inflammatory response. Vitamin D is an inhibitor of dendritic cells acting as an immune modulator; therefore, vitamin D deficiency could explain the increased incidence of psoriasis for the reduction of anti‐inflammatory activity. Objectives To compare serum 25‐hydroxy vitamin D levels in patients with psoriasis and healthy individuals. Methods A systematic review of the literature and meta‐analysis was performed by searching PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Lilacs, Ovid and ProQuest databases to find the best available evidence from 2013 to 2024. We also conducted a snowballing literature search to expand the included studies. The methodological quality and risk of bias were assessed through the Newcastle–Ottawa scale. A random effect meta‐analysis model was applied. Results A total of 27 articles were included in the systematic review of these three cross‐sectional studies included in the first meta‐analysis, the synthesized standardized mean difference (SMD) in serum vitamin D between psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis was −0.13 (95% CI [−0.46, 0.20], p = 0.45). The second meta‐analysis included two case controls, the synthesized SMD in serum vitamin D between psoriasis and controls was −0.71 (95% CI [−0.85, −0.57], p = 0.00). Conclusions No difference in vitamin D levels between psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis was found. Psoriasis patients have lower vitamin D levels than the general population. However, further studies are essential to understand how vitamin D levels contribute to the pathogenesis of psoriasis or vice versa and its role in severity.

Abstract This study examines the impact of the 10 May 2024, geomagnetic storm on the Mexican power grid, utilizing geomagnetically induced currents (GIC), measurements and regional magnetic field data recorded by the Laboratorio Nacional de Clima Espacial. Significant GIC were observed at three different locations within the grid. The observations were complemented with estimates for the Mexican power grid provided by a numerical model developed in late 2022. Our findings suggest that the GIC can pose a potential threat to low‐latitude power grids during extreme geomagnetic disturbances. Furthermore, the model demonstrates its potential to forecast the grid response during these events, providing critical insight into the behavior of the electrical grid during extreme space weather events.

ABSTRACT Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a promising therapy for the management of spinal cord injury. Following SCS, this patient experienced a significant reduction in pain and decreased spasticity, which ultimately led to improved upper extremity function.

In the rapidly advancing field of medical microrobotics, designing robots capable of addressing various challenges—such as imaging, biodegradation, and multifunctionality—is crucial. Departing from conventional research that often focuses on isolated aspects of microrobot functionality, this study presents an innovative approach to comprehensive microrobot design. Soft capsule microrobots that integrate capabilities such as magnetic navigation, autonomous maneuverability, in situ biodegradation, biosafe imaging, and drug delivery are reported. These microrobots are fabricated within the range of 20–120 μm, with a notable throughput of ≈102–103 microrobots per second. Furthermore, their locomotion performance has been demonstrated to remain stable for a period exceeding 10 h, all while employing real‐time optical closed‐loop control. The incorporation of ultrasound contrast agents not only amplifies imaging resolution but also ensures imaging contrast stability in a biological environment for over a period of 3 h. Second, the intentional integration of enzyme‐loaded nanometric polymersomes establishes a self‐contained, biodegradable system, accentuating the microrobots’ capacity to degrade without the addition of high enzyme concentrations. This integrated approach lays the groundwork for minimally invasive treatments toward personalized and targeted medicine.

Abstract On 10 May 2024, a severe geomagnetic storm coinciding with Mother's Day in Mexico lasted over 40 hr and produced polar auroras observable at low latitudes. This storm, the most intense since 2003, resulted from a series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections from active region 3664. The event was significant for space weather studies in Mexico, marking a milestone by enabling comprehensive measurements of its effects. The Mexico Space Weather Service (SCIESMEX) and the National Space Weather Laboratory (LANCE) had prepared for such an event since their inception. LANCE's instrument networks recorded solar chromospheric images, solar radio bursts, geomagnetic variations, Schumann resonances, ionospheric disturbances, and energetic particle flows. They also monitored Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) in three strategic substations of the national electrical system. This provided unprecedented insights into the dynamics of severe space weather events at the North‐American low‐latitude environment. Citizen science efforts documented auroras and regional responses, capturing variations in geomagnetic indices, ionospheric disturbances, cosmic ray fluxes, GICs, and technological impacts. SCIESMEX worked with the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) to issue warnings, ensuring public awareness and preparedness. This coordination underscores the importance of effective communication and collaboration in mitigating impacts. The May 2024 geomagnetic storm demonstrated the critical role of preparedness, research, and public education in reducing the effects of future space weather events in Mexico.

Abstract Asymptomatic IgM gammopathy encompasses IgM monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and asymptomatic Waldenström macroglobulinemia (AWM), both having a risk of progression to symptomatic disease. Here, we assessed the risk of progression and the mortality of 956 patients with asymptomatic IgM gammopathy across 25 Spanish centers. After a median follow‐up of 5.7 years, 156 patients progressed, most of them to symptomatic WM (SWM). The cumulative incidence of progression was 13% and 20% at 5 and 10 years, respectively. Abstract Objectives Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease driven by antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL). Currently, APS diagnosis requires a combination of clinical manifestations (thrombosis and/or obstetric morbidity) and the persistent presence of at least one criteria aPL: anti‐cardiolipin antibodies (aCL), anti‐β2‐glycoprotein I antibodies (aβ2GPI) or lupus anticoagulant (LA). Patients with suggestive obstetric symptoms but lacking criteria aPL face diagnostic challenges. Non‐criteria aPL screening may enhance discrimination. This study proposes a classification incorporating both criteria and non‐criteria antibodies to improve obstetric APS diagnosis. Methods Blood samples from non‐pregnant women (n = 68) with a history of vascular, obstetric, or vascular and obstetric manifestations were analysed. Among them, 30 had previous diagnosis of APS. Healthy women with proven gestational success were included as controls (n = 16). Criteria and non‐criteria (anti‐phosphatidylglycerol, anti‐phosphatidylethanolamine, anti‐phosphatidylinositol, anti‐phosphatidylserine and anti‐phosphatidic acid) IgG aPL were evaluated by ELISA and coagulation tests. Based on the resulting aPL profile, patients were reclassified. Responsiveness to treatment was obtained from medical records. Results Criteria aPL levels marginally differentiated women previously managed as obstetric APS from unexplained/other causes of obstetric morbidity. Including non‐criteria aPL improved separation. The proposed classification identified an obstetric APS group that exhibits non‐criteria aPL and aβ2GPI titres below the cut‐off but higher than healthy women (7.88 vs. 2.47 SGU, P = 0.006). Compared to cases of other causes of obstetric morbidity, these patients retrospectively responded better to aspirin and/or heparin treatment (71.43% vs. 11.11%, P = 0.035). Conclusions Assessing non‐criteria antibodies may identify isolated obstetric APS cases benefiting from established therapies.

Abstract The industrialization of perovskite solar cells requires adequate materials and processes to make them economically viable and environmentally sustainable. Despite promising results in terms of power conversion efficiency and operational stability, several hole‐transport layers currently in use still need to prove their industrial feasibility. This work demonstrates the use of nanocrystalline nickel oxide produced through flash infrared annealing (FIRA), considerably reducing the materials cost, production time, energy, and the amount of solvents required for the hole transport layer. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals a better conversion to nickel oxide and a higher oxygen‐to‐nickel ratio for the FIRA films as compared to control annealing methods, resulting in higher device efficiency and operational stability. Planar inverted solar cells produced with triple cation perovskite absorber result in 16.7% power conversion efficiency for 1 cm2 devices, and 15.9% averaged over an area of 17 cm2.

Key Clinical Message During the COVID 19 pandemic, advanced age, scoring systems, and a shortage of ICU beds were used as cut‐offs for ICU admission. This case report describes the epicrisis of an elderly patient who was almost mistakenly not treated in an ICU.

Background Takotsubo syndrome is usually triggered by a stressful event. The type of trigger seems to influence the outcome and should therefore be considered separately. Methods and Results Patients included in the GEIST (German‐Italian‐Spanish Takotsubo) registry were categorized according to physical trigger (PT), emotional trigger (ET), and no trigger (NT) of Takotsubo syndrome. Clinical characteristics as well as outcome predictors were analyzed. Overall, 2482 patients were included. ET was detected in 910 patients (36.7%), PT in 885 patients (34.4%), and NT was observed in 717 patients (28.9%). Compared with patients with PT or NT, patients with ET were younger, less frequently men, and had a lower prevalence of comorbidities. Abstract Introduction Women experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) do not tend to go very frequently to formal support services. The objective of this study is to identify barriers related to the accessibility, acceptability, equity, appropriateness and effectiveness of IPV services from the perspective of the professionals working in the IPV public services. Methods A qualitative study was carried out in the Madrid region based on 13 semi‐structured interviews of young women who had survived IPV as well as 17 interviews with professionals. A thematic content analysis was performed, guided by the dimensions proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) for friendly services for young people. Results From the perspective of the young women and professionals, barriers were identified for all the dimensions of the WHO's friendly services for young people: accessibility: lack of information and support from the social setting, scarce dissemination of the services, economic cost, non‐adapted schedules, inadequate locations or lack of services in settings close to young people; acceptability: lack of protocols to guarantee confidentiality, lack of speed in the provision of services or their referral, unwelcoming environments or unsympathetic professional malpractice; equity: discriminatory professional attitudes towards groups with different social status and lack of protocols to ensure the care of these groups; appropriateness: unmet needs and lack of multidisciplinary teams; and effectiveness: shortage of time, resources, competent professionals, protocols and coordination. Conclusions Strategies are needed to make the necessary changes to promote friendly services for the care of young people exposed to IPV. Additionally, it must be emphasized that resources are needed to raise awareness and disseminate IPV services, as well as to train professionals in this area. Patient or Public Contribution This paper is based on professionals' perspectives of public IPV‐related services of different areas such as Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Psychiatry, Social Education and young women exposed to IPV. They either work in the public administration at the local, regional or state level or in NGOs in Spain.

Abstract Human need to appropriate freshwater in combination with climate change has intensified the rapid decline in freshwater biodiversity. Based on 216 currently imperiled freshwater species in the United States, the Southwest, and the Rocky Mountains, were predicted to experience the highest increase in future water stress for 2040 in 41 minor watersheds. Resident‐small species in the Southwest, found in single locations (21.6%) or on local level (62.2%), were listed as endangered (n = 37) and are predicted to experience severe water stress increases by 2040. Endangered species in the Rocky Mountains (n = 9), were found on a basin or local level (33.3%), exhibiting predominantly potamodromous behavior (66.7%). Furthermore, many endangered species in key regions lack life‐history data (41%). Our results highlight that determining priority of species for conservation using biodiversity as an indicator may not be useful for identifying future impacts to imperiled species, since many regions undergoing high water stress did not coincide with biodiversity hotspots.

Societal Impact Statement Crop wild relatives (CWR) are plant taxa closely related to crops and are a source of high genetic diversity that can help adapt crops to the impacts of global change, particularly to meet increasing consumer demand in the face of the climate crisis. CWR provide vital ecosystem services and are increasingly important for food and nutrition security and sustainable and resilient agriculture. They therefore are of major biological, social, cultural and economic importance. Assessing the extinction risk of CWR is essential to prioritise in situ and ex situ conservation strategies in Mesoamerica to guarantee the long‐term survival and availability of these resources for present and future generations worldwide. Summary Ensuring food security is one of the world's most critical issues as agricultural systems are already being impacted by global change. Crop wild relatives (CWR)—wild plants related to crops—possess genetic variability that can help adapt agriculture to a changing environment and sustainably increase crop yields to meet the food security challenge. Here we report the results of an extinction risk assessment of 224 wild relatives of some of the world's most important crops (i.e. chilli pepper, maize, common bean, avocado, cotton, potato, squash, vanilla and husk tomato) in Mesoamerica—an area of global significance as a centre of crop origin, domestication and of high CWR diversity. We show that 35% of the selected CWR taxa are threatened with extinction according to The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List demonstrates that these valuable genetic resources are under high anthropogenic threat. The dominant threat processes are land use change for agriculture and farming, invasive and other problematic species (e.g. pests, genetically modified organisms) and use of biological resources, including overcollection and logging. The most significant drivers of extinction relate to smallholder agriculture—given its high incidence and ongoing shifts from traditional agriculture to modern practices (e.g. use of herbicides)—smallholder ranching and housing and urban development and introduced genetic material. There is an urgent need to increase knowledge and research around different aspects of CWR. Policies that support in situ and ex situ conservation of CWR and promote sustainable agriculture are pivotal to secure these resources for the benefit of current and future generations.

Abstract With many plant–pollinator interactions undergoing change as species’ distributions shift, we require a better understanding of how the addition of new interacting partners can affect plant reproduction. One such group of floral visitors, nectar robbers, can deplete plants of nectar rewards without contributing to pollination. The addition of nectar robbing to the floral visitor assemblage could therefore have costs to the plant´s reproductive output. We focus on a recent plant colonist, Digitalis purpurea, a plant that in its native range is rarely robbed, but experiences intense nectar robbing in areas it has been introduced to. Here, we test the costs to reproduction following experimental nectar robbing. To identify any changes in the behavior of the principal pollinators in response to nectar robbing, we measured visitation rates, visit duration, proportion of flowers visited, and rate of rejection of inflorescences. To find the effects of robbing on fitness, we used proxies for female and male components of reproductive output, by measuring the seeds produced per fruit and the pollen export, respectively. Nectar robbing significantly reduced the rate of visitation and lengths of visits by bumblebees. Additionally, bumblebees visited a lower proportion of flowers on an inflorescence that had robbed flowers. We found that flowers in the robbed treatment produced significantly fewer seeds per fruit on average but did not export fewer pollen grains. Our finding that robbing leads to reduced seed production could be due to fewer and shorter visits to flowers leading to less effective pollination. We discuss the potential consequences of new pollinator environments, such as exposure to nectar robbing, for plant reproduction.

Societal Impact Statement Tropical dry forests (TDF) underpin the wellbeing of millions, mostly rural populations; yet have suffered from severe clearing in Colombia, triggering cascading effects such as desertification. By engaging scientists, society, and institutions in the establishment of platforms for monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, crucial knowledge gaps will be bridged, helping to find a path toward sustainable development. Science‐led but socially and economically anchored information on biodiversity will help to incorporate nature's contributions to people into the society's cultural values. Ultimately, these transformative actions will translate into the comprehensive management of TDF through a greater impact in decision making. Summary Thousands of permanent plots have been established across the tropics with the purpose of monitoring tree communities. Research outcomes from these platforms, however, have been mainly directed toward the academic community, and their contribution to society has been limited so far. Here, we show how generating robust data on biodiversity has supported decision making in Colombian tropical dry forests (TDF), where less than 8% of their original cover remains. As a first step to build a national dialogue around the critical status of this ecosystem, a national collaborative network on TDF research and monitoring was born in 2014, the Red de Investigación y Monitoreo del Bosque Seco Tropical en Colombia (Red BST‐Col). Our main goal is to generate scientifically sound information that feeds into the comprehensive management of this ecosystem. To do so, a set of biodiversity monitoring platforms has been established across the country, which have already served to answer socio‐ecological questions related with deforestation drivers, citizen science, or the valuation of ecosystem services. Overall, this research agenda has nurtured the four lines that underpin the Program for the comprehensive management of dry forests in Colombia (knowledge management, preservation, restoration, and sustainable use), formulated by the Humboldt Institute, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Ministry of Environment in 2019. Many challenges are ahead, however, for a complex territory where multiple social actors and productive sectors coexist. The ultimate goal is to integrate all the dimensions of biodiversity to achieve a synthetic understanding of the functioning of the most endangered ecosystem in Colombia, and its relationship with local communities' wellbeing.

Abstract Comprehensive monthly weather station databases are the foundation for many gridded climate data products, and they are widely used to characterize regional climate conditions, track climate change and research the impact of climate on natural and managed ecosystems. However, weather station databases are often regional in coverage, and they can have extensive gaps in station coverage over time. They may also contain errors in climate records, station coordinates or elevation. Here, we assemble a comprehensive monthly weather station database for precipitation from multiple reputable data sources. We use digital elevation models and nearby stations to search for inconsistencies in reported station locations and recorded precipitation values. We also estimated missing values in weather station time series using a linear model approach based on interpolated anomaly surfaces. The resulting station records were ranked into ten classes, according to the completeness of records, the reliability of missing value estimations and other criteria. We corrected incomplete or erroneous location and elevation information for 12% of all available station records. A total of 23% of monthly records that had missing values could be estimated with high or moderate confidence. We sub‐sampled our global database of more than 80,000 stations with various spatial filters, so that only the highest quality station for a given area was retained. Our contribution significantly enhances global data coverage compared to individual databases currently available. Even when accepting only the stations within the top two quality ranks in our combined database, and applying the coarsest spatial filter of one station per approximately 1,600 km2, the remaining station count of more than 20,000 stations exceeds the largest alternative database (without a spatial filter applied) by more than 50%.

Abstract We report the case of a patient who was initially presented with ischemic priapism to the emergency department. He was treated with adrenaline intracavernous injections and aspiration with irrigation of the corpora cavernosa and distal shunt. In the postoperative period, anemia, basophilia, eosinophilia, thrombocytosis and hyperleukocytosis were detected. The patient was subsequently diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. Priapism is a rare manifestation of chronic myeloid leukemia (≤ 3%) and occurs mostly due to hyperleukocytosis, resulting in thrombus formation and corporal venous outflow obstruction. Priapism occurring in any setting is considered as a medical emergency that requires immediate local therapy because of resulting irreversible cell damage and fibrosis if not treated within the first 24–48 h.

Introduction: The Centro Medico Nacional 20 de Noviembre is the most complex centre of the Mexican public health system. The SARS COV‐2 pandemic has progressively saturated health services at all levels, impacting chronic non‐communicable diseases 1. Aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage has a mortality rate of up to 35% if not treated 2. Endovascular management of aneurysms provides a therapeutic possibility that shortens the time and reduces complications if implemented in an outpatient system with high standards of patient choice and reduces the chances of complications 3. We present a case series of patients with ruptured and unruptured brain aneurysms treated in a satellite system to reduce in‐hospital days and complications. Methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out of 66 patients admitted on an outpatient basis at the Centro Medico Nacional “20 de noviembre” between May 2020 to June 2021. The patients were entered into a “satellite” system for coils’ endovascular management or flow diverter, previously diagnosed with digital subtracter angiography and computed tomography angiogram. The analysis of variables was done using the Shapiro‐Wilk test to determine the normality of the sample distribution. The correlation of variables was done using Chi‐square. Results: The mean age of the patients was 53.8 years SD 14.31 years. 71.2% of the patients were female, and 28.2% were male. There was a 59.1% left predominance regarding the aneurysm side, 37.9% on the right side, and 3.0% was a single vessel. The arterial predominance was 77.3% anterior circulation. 95.5% of the patients underwent embolization with the placement of coils, and 4.5% had a flow diverter. The mean time of admission was 23.3 hours SD 12.4 hours. Complications occurred in 13.6% of the population studied, the most frequent being vasospasm, arterial occlusion, hydrocephalus, and death from aspiration pneumonia. The modified Rankin scale at 90 days was 0.38 SD 1.13. There was a significant relationship (p = 0.05) between the left side and complications. Conclusions: The management of aneurysms with a short in‐hospital time is a feasible solution in reducing the decongestion of tertiary health systems. Endovascular management with coils results in a low rate of complications, which is why this therapeutic route can be followed to desaturate third‐level health systems and a flow diversion in high well‐selected patients. The relationship between complication rates related to the left side of aneurysms is likely due to the more significant number of aneurysms on this side, not due to anatomical vessel idiosyncrasy.

Abstract Postdoctoral positions provide critical opportunities for early‐career ecologists to build transferable skills, knowledge, and networks that will prepare them for professional success. However, these positions often come with personal and professional challenges such as stress, isolation, and lack of agency. Here, we describe a peer‐led postdoc program we created to maximize benefits and minimize challenges while preparing ourselves for a wide range of possible future careers using our training and expertise in ecology. We also give recommendations for other postdocs and early‐career scientists in ecology and across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields seeking to build a similar program.

Abstract Mountain social‐ecological systems (MtSES) are vital to humanity, providing ecosystem services to over half the planet's human population. Despite their importance, there has been no global assessment of threats to MtSES, even as they face unprecedented challenges to their sustainability. With survey data from 57 MtSES sites worldwide, we test a conceptual model of the types and scales of stressors and ecosystem services in MtSES and explore their distinct configurations according to their primary economic orientation and land use. We find that MtSES worldwide are experiencing both gradual and abrupt climatic, economic, and governance changes, with policies made by outsiders as the most ubiquitous challenge. Mountains that support primarily subsistence‐oriented livelihoods, especially agropastoral systems, deliver abundant services but are also most at risk. Moreover, transitions from subsistence‐ to market‐oriented economies are often accompanied by increased physical connectedness, reduced diversity of cross‐scale ecosystem services, lowered importance of local knowledge, and shifting vulnerabilities to threats. Addressing the complex challenges facing MtSES and catalyzing transformations to MtSES sustainability will require cross‐scale partnerships among researchers, stakeholders, and decision makers to jointly identify desired futures and adaptation pathways, assess trade‐offs in prioritizing ecosystem services, and share best practices for sustainability. These transdisciplinary approaches will allow local stakeholders, researchers, and practitioners to jointly address MtSES knowledge gaps while simultaneously focusing on critical issues of poverty and food security.

Abstract Sharks are one of the most threatened marine animals, with fishing identified as the prime human activity responsible for population declines. The tropical eastern Pacific, a biogeographic region spanning the coastal areas from Mexico to Peru including the Colombian Pacific coast and the Galapagos archipelago, forms critical habitat and migratory routes for sharks and other marine megafauna. The Colombian government recently announced a total (blanket) ban on all forms of shark fishing in the country, including artisanal and industrial. Prohibiting shark fisheries in Colombia could drive fishing and trade under‐ground, fueling criminality, and marginalization. This will not only undermine recent efforts of local communities and researchers to manage small‐scale fisheries, but will criminalize a key source of income for a historically marginalized part of Colombian society. To be effective and ethical, this government decision needs to be rethought incorporating a more holistic management strategy consented among different stakeholder groups.

Background Acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) and respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are potentially life‐threatening complications in patients experiencing stroke during hospitalization. We aimed to test whether blood biomarker panels might predict these complications early after admission. Methods and Results Nine hundred thirty‐eight patients experiencing ischemic stroke were prospectively recruited in the Stroke‐Chip study. Post‐stroke complications during hospitalization were retrospectively evaluated. Blood samples were drawn within 6 hours after stroke onset, and 14 biomarkers were analyzed by immunoassays. Biomarker values were normalized using log‐transformation and Z score. PanelomiX algorithm was used to select panels with the best accuracy for predicting ADHF and RTI. Logistic regression models were constructed with the clinical variables and the biomarker panels. The additional predictive value of the panels compared with the clinical model alone was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curves. An internal validation through a 10‐fold cross‐validation with 3 repeats was performed. ADHF and RTI occurred in 19 (2%) and 86 (9.1%) cases, respectively. Three‐biomarker panels were developed as predictors: vascular adhesion protein‐1 >5.67, NT‐proBNP (N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide) >4.98 and d‐dimer >5.38 (sensitivity, 89.5%; specificity, 71.7%) for ADHF; and interleukin‐6 >3.97, von Willebrand factor >3.67, and d‐dimer >4.58 (sensitivity, 82.6%; specificity, 59.8%) for RTI. Both panels independently predicted stroke complications (panel for ADHF: odds ratio [OR] [95% CI], 10.1 [3–52.2]; panel for RTI: OR, 3.73 [1.95–7.14]) after adjustment by clinical confounders. The addition of the panel to clinical predictors significantly improved areas under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic curves in both cases. Conclusions Blood biomarkers could be useful for the early prediction of ADHF and RTI. Future studies should assess the usefulness of these panels in front of patients experiencing stroke with respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea.

Abstract The ultrathin nature and dangling bonds free surface of 2D semiconductors allow for significant modifications of their bandgap through strain engineering. Here, thin InSe photodetector devices are biaxially stretched, finding, a strong bandgap tunability upon strain. The applied biaxial strain is controlled through the substrate expansion upon temperature increase and the effective strain transfer from the substrate to the thin InSe is confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. The bandgap change upon biaxial strain is determined through photoluminescence measurements, finding a gauge factor of up to ≈200 meV %−1. The effect of biaxial strain on the electrical properties of the InSe devices is further characterized. In the dark state, a large increase of the current is observed upon applied strain which gives a piezoresistive gauge factor value of ≈450–1000, ≈5–12 times larger than that of other 2D materials and of state‐of‐the‐art silicon strain gauges. Moreover, the biaxial strain tuning of the InSe bandgap also translates in a strain‐induced redshift of the spectral response of the InSe photodetectors with ΔEcut‐off ≈173 meV at a rate of ≈360 meV %−1 of strain, indicating a strong strain tunability of the spectral bandwidth of the photodetectors.
